I really like that they made Jor-El speak Kryptonian and Clark unable to understand him. The whole "aliens speak English" thing that happens in every goddamn media has bothered me all my life. Ik sometimes Clark just gets zapped in the brain for insta-second language but that always felt like a cheap shortcut.

Jor-El had a lot on his mind when he set up that magic spaceship okay. The world was ending and he was trying to do as much as he could before time ran out so he could be there for his son. He was rushing. He likely didn't consider Kal would be raised with a whole different language and not know any Kryptonian nor have anyone to teach him.

The Hawaiian language doesn't attach gender to pronouns, but it does have a complex set of relational pronouns, so you can use a particular pronoun to note for example "all of us (except for that guy)"

it's actually kinda funny how the balance of nobles getting frenzied is already a little pearl clan heavy just by virtue of there being an uneven number, but then they also have a ride noble get pseudo-frenzied and rather than it being a diamond clan noble to even things out, it's ursaluna, who's also pearl. that's 4/5 pearl nobles who get some version of frenzied compared to only 2/5 for diamond. almighty sinnoh really said fuck these guys specifically. also a real "sneasler wins by doing nothing" sort of situation here

I really can’t get enough of sci-fi short stories that commit to being rather unhinged.

I just finished reading one where a man accidentally receives a super futuristic “child’s toy” that allows you to make small biological beings or “twin” things. He hyper fixates on this item, learns to use it, contemplates making a duplicate of the hot lady at work so he can have her, changes his mind at the last minute, makes a duplicate of himself, said duplicate immediately tells him he’s a fucking loser and weirdo for considering making himself a duplicate of the woman, then a weird tall man busts in the room (LITERALLY), says that he got the package by accident and he was here to retrieve it and dispose of the twin, the duplicate says “hey you’re a smart guy you can totally tell who the original is”, the tall man agrees and vaporizes the original then says that humanity isn’t quite ready for the technology to which the duplicate agrees. END

Fionna and Cake missed an opportunity for some great psychological horror by not including a scene set 12 years ago that shows the magic draining from Aaa and the characters having their memories rewritten as Ice King becomes Simon again (or the reverse, a scene paralleling CAWM where Fionna’s boring world is gradually regaining magic and everyone freaking out and despairing as it happens)

i play splatoon for the first time in months. i realize it’s a splatfest. i pick a team my friend is on so we can play together. friend logs off. i lose a pro battle with a player named “nagito” on my team (they were n-zap, no kills 3 deaths). i win an x100 battle by a literal tenth of a point two games later
