After a year, I don't really like this spread anymore, but whatever x)

uh oh, more insane theories from the local Lucatiel Simp

Y'all know the drill by now.

So relating to my last post, the second theory I have concerning the Darklurker is that it is the last fragment of Manus' being, similar to the queens within the game.

First, an explanation of the queens within ds2 in case you're one of those poor fucks who follows me but doesn't play ds2:

Within Dark Souls, one of the most important entities lorewise is Manus, the Father of the Abyss. His soul, contrary to those of the other Lords, was dark, borne from the shadows that linger on the edge of a fire's light (in my opinion. He did possess the Dark Soul, but it's not really specified what made it different, apart from its name and apparent power).

However, Manus wasn't manus when he found it. He was the Furtive Pygmy, and actually split the Dark Soul into fragments prior to his first death, which led to the creation of humankind.

Later on, people from Oolacile, a land of Golden Sorcery that (ironically) manipulated light, dug his corpse up and at the behest of the Darkstalker Kaathe (one of the Abyssal serpents who manipulate the world from shadow) performed terrible and cruel experiments upon it.

These experiments, coupled with the theft of the Pygmy's amulet, drove its lingering soul mad, causing the birth of Manus and the complete devastation of Oolacile, and the creation of the place that would become known as the Abyss.

The main character of Dark Souls 1, the Chosen Undead, eventually destroys Manus, and that's the end. Or so we thought.

As it turns out, parts of manus persisted within the Abyss, emerging thousands of years later as four (or five, if you think Mytha is one) women, each borne from one of his Negative emotions. Alsanna from his Fears, Elana from his Wrath, Nashandra from his Want, and while Nadalia isn't specified, a lot of people think she is his Loneliness.

Now, something you may have noticed is that none of these are particularly good things, which makes sense. The birth of Manus was not a happy event, and I think that most goodness was driven from his Soul upon his birth.

Most.

My main theory for the Darklurker (took long enough, eh?) is that it is the virtues of Manus. Those better aspects of him that were nearly lost during the transformation into the progenitor of the boundless dark within men. The Darklurker's lack of a voice at all, its ability to wield magic, and its pseudo-angelic appearance reminds me of a fallen angel, which is notably different from the appearance of the Abyssal Daughters. They, for the most part, resemble darker beings such as Demons, Grim Reapers, or horribly twisted human forms. The otherwordly appearance of the Darklurker makes me feel like its nature is much less grounded, and more abstract. Hence, the virtues of Manus.

remember when everyone was like "ughhh... dark souls 2 even re-used the ornstein as a boss... and you have to fight the dragonrider TWICE... what a bad game"

and then elden ring was like "we're even recycling plot bosses like godfrey and astel" and everyone went "holy shit this is the best game ever released"

idk maybe dark souls 2 actually is either the best souls game or elden ring is just as bad as dark souls 2 take a side already

For the unpopular ask game! 💔 and 🖤 (black heart for the morally good question) ((^for the Soulsborne games you've played; I have yet to try out Hylics + Pathologic, but this blog has me considering getting into those :p))

💔 If you had to remove one major character from the series, who would you choose?

That's actually a REALLY hard question to answer! Even with all of the soulsborne characters I find the most uninteresting, I can't really think of any that I find so pointless to the narrative that they should just disappear from it entirely...

In terms of minor characters though, I can name all of six of the most useless bastards in the series right here: Blue Smelter Demon, Lud & Zallen, the Graverobber, Varg, and Cerah. These fucking shit bosses contained in the most infuriatingly designed areas in the entire goddamn souls series add nothing lore-wise and have no reason to exist other than to make 100% completionists like myself hate being alive. Every day that I think about them is a day splotched with misery and I hope one day a mod of DS2 can exist that removes them entirely. If you can't tell, I don't like these bosses >:-(

🖤 Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?

Reah of Thorolund. While I do think she ultimately tries to be a good person, I will die upon my hill that she is not NEARLY as innocent as the fandom often makes her out to be!

That fact that she's not only the leader of the cleric gang's expedition to find the Rite of Kindling, and thus a high ranking member of the very shady Way of White religion, is already a huge red flag to me. Though even more than that is the fact that she has more physical humanity on her than both Lautrec AND Patches, who are two characters heavily implied to have killed people in order to hold that much humanity on them. Even if Reah doesn't like killing and didn't kill for her humanity stash, somebody did kill for her to be able to have that much on hand. Probably Vince and Nico, and maybe even Petrus too, as they don't have much for themselves despite being her bodyguards. Yet even still a lot tend to forget that she's the one holding Wrath of the Gods on-hand to sell to you, so she certainly has the Faith to cast frighteningly powerful miracles if she wanted to.

Honestly at the end of the day I think too many people just assume Reah's this innocent little maiden solely because she's a young woman. I'm not saying everyone is intentionally being misogynistic in their assumptions, but frankly I can't see why so many would ignore her very clearly stated leadership in her group alongside her 1-uping Petrus in the power of the miracles she carries unless some internalized bias is at play.

I have had accusations hurled at me by one @heraldofcrow and I just wanted to inform the public of how wrong she is, and has IN FACT authorized the bombardment of Sephiroth in an innocent old Russian lady's inbox. It got so bad that this poor old woman can't live her day to day life as an autistic lore digger without fearing the face of Sephiroth. I may have told a few jokes here and there, hell I even joked about this topic, but are the masses willing to believe a person who has done worse things under the radar? Are you willing to believe a person who bullies old ladies on the internet for fun? I may be a troll, but I am a professional, and even I ain't that monstrous.

Also she wholeheartedly believes that Dark Souls 2 is the BEST souls game, when that is an OBVIOUS lie on so many levels. So who do you believe more, this gothic witch who probably eats baby birds or the upstanding citizen that is me?

Hands Down it was Lud and Zallen in Dark Souls II. The experience of getting to them through Frigid Outskirts let alone fighting them was so incredibly awful that I have No Memory of fighting them. It's still the only DS boss I haven't beaten :I
