story wip of my ocs meeting!

A soft thump interrupted Yukiko’s train of thought as she looked up from her laptop. It was strange, since she was wearing noise-canceling headphones, so her first instinct was to slide them off and grab the bat propped against her nightstand. Her hands lifted the wooden weapon with a tight grip, approaching her door with wide eyes. She slowly reached out for the doorknob; a moment of tense silence seemed to paralyze her movement before she threw open the door.

“Hello?” The young woman called out, the hallway sparingly illuminated from the light of her bedroom. To the left; two doors adjacent from each other–the storage closet and the bathroom–and the trapdoor on the ceiling that led to the attic. To the right; another pair of doors for two empty bedrooms, and the stairwell to the first floor. Yukiko carefully stepped out of her room and towards the stairs, peering down into the darkness with squinted eyes. She flipped on the lightswitch that lit up a bulb above the stairs.

However, there was still nothing. No sound besides the crickets and cicadas outside, nor the shadow or silhouette of an intruder. She lowered the bat to her side, letting it drag behind her as she stepped down the stairs a bit more noisily than usual. Yukiko turned the corner toward the foyer and tugged on her jacket over her pajamas while slipping into her sandals. She exchanged the bat for a flashlight that hung beside her keys, her grip more relaxed around the cool metal as she stepped out into the night.

It was pleasantly warm, as summer nights are, and the expanse of the farmland around her had no hints of abnormality. She scanned her driveway once more with the help of her flashlight, and caught a glimpse of something slithering under her truck. Despite it not being the reason she was outside, she couldn’t ignore the possibility of something worming its way into her beloved vehicle. As Yukiko approached the truck, she couldn’t help but wonder what it even was. It was too thin and shiny to be a cat, and the only snakes nearby lived in the riverbank.

She rested a hand on the hood in thought–maybe it was a cat, it wouldn’t be the first time a stray found its way into the engine. She carefully opened it and secured the prop, shining her flashlight into the hood to try and spot whatever creature was inside. When she caught a glimpse of something small and metallic slither around the engine, she jumped back with a mildly disgusted expression. Okay, it definitely wasn’t an animal, but what was it? Yukiko gripped the flashlight until her knuckles turned white, the light now shaking as it pointed at the vehicle.

Before the young woman could step any closer, a bright flash made her recoil. She dropped the flashlight and immediately covered her eyes, wincing at the harshness of the light. When darkness returned, she peeked through her fingers at her truck. Nothing looked different, but something felt off. She scrambled to pick up her flashlight, her eyes still stinging from the flash. “H…hello?” Yukiko’s voice trembled barely above a whisper as she swallowed the lump in her throat. “Hello?” She asked again, louder this time as she straightened herself out. 

To her surprise, the headlights started flickering, accompanied with a strange string of beeps and whines. Either she was hallucinating, or her car was possessed. She took a step closer, curiosity overtaking any rational thoughts of running. “Are… you trying to speak to me?” She asked; this time, there was no reply. Instead, a loud hiss and a puff of steam came from under the truck. 

Fear flooded her senses as her truck began to shift. Seams splitting and metal turning as a figure resembling a robot stood in place of the vehicle that once was. After a moment of processing, a scream ripped from Yukiko’s throat as she scrambled back, tripping over her feet and unceremoniously falling to the ground. “Stay-stay back!” She cried out, pointing the flashlight at the robot’s face.

Its yellow eyes seemed to squint, silvery lips turning into a distasteful grimace as it raised its hands to block the light. From behind its fingers, the young woman could see the rim of a green cap with a golden crest above it. To the side of its head was a circular black piece, with a thick cone-like antenna sticking up from it. Her flashlight lowered to get a better look at the robot, and it definitely looked like her truck. Most of its body was white, with parts of its limbs a dark grey and hints of green splashed around. She took notice of the dirt and grime that stood out against the white paint–clear indicators of its use. 

“What… are you?” Yukiko’s voice wavered as she clicked off the flashlight. Suddenly, it was her turn to be inspected. The robot’s heavy footfalls caused dust to rise around it as it stepped closer to her; the windshield on its chest allowed her to see her frightened expression and disheveled appearance in its reflection. Her muted purple hair was hastily tied into a messy bun, and her slate green eyes looked more wild than usual. The black jacket and tank top she wore was visibly coated in dust, no doubt her shorts were in the same condition.

Turning her attention back to the robot, it extended a careful hand and a small stick extended out of it, pressing against her skin inquisitively. “Ow–” she hissed, “what are you doing?” She waved its hand back with a frown. Another string of noises emitted from the robot, its expression seeming confused. Yukiko chewed her lip thoughtfully before putting up her finger. “Hold on, let me try something.” She said, despite knowing the creature couldn’t understand her.

She took a few steps back from the robot before heading back inside. She kicked off her sandals before racing upstairs to her room and grabbing her laptop–maybe it needed to connect to something? With anxious excitement buzzing in her head, she made her way back downstairs and hurriedly slipped her shoes back on, flipping on the porch lights before jogging back to the robot. It stared at her curiously, before sticking its finger back out. 

Yukiko held up the open laptop and the stick began to mold into one of the USB ports. The reflection of the screen seemed to flash with information going by too fast for her to fathom. After a few quiet minutes, the robot looked at her with a newfound understanding. “Greetings,” a masculine voice spoke, “my name is Raiame. I am here to save your planet.” The woman almost dropped her laptop before he was finished disconnecting. 

“Sorry… what?” Her lips pressed into a contemplative line,  trying to wrap her head around everything happening. Her truck got turned into a robot claiming to be here to save her planet that she didn’t even know was in danger, and it just learned formal Japanese in minutes. “Saving Earth… Can you elaborate on that?”

“I belong to an alien species that has its eyes on Earth.” He nodded, shifting his position to a kneeling sit. “My superiors are planning on invading your planet and reforming it to suit our needs.” The apparent horror on her face had Raiame’s eyes widening as he raised his hands in a calming gesture. “That is not my stance, however. My colleagues who arrived on this planet feel the same as I.  We wish to protect Earth and its people.” 

Yukiko’s heart thumped in her ears as she nodded slowly. “So… so you and some other aliens were sent to… to hurt us? But you don’t want to.”

nah bc like. i was planning on drawing yuusha anyway but like. i finally saw her ref sheet. and the hairstyle 2.0 got my ass. DID NOT EXPECT THAT AT ALL, LIKE IM OBSESSED W IT SHE LOOKS SO SHARP.

it was just so different from the long braid she has. her head must feel super light now. and it must be so much easier to wash her hair (less shampoo and conditioner, yeahhh saving money‼️‼️ deffo needed for the ramshackle prefect tm)

anyways i imagine this is what jamil felt seeing her haircut for the first time (unless he cut it, which like, is cute too. either way he’s shocked she looks so good with shorter hair)

Heroic Duplicity

Even Metal Masked Machines, who scream and tear at the void, seek salvation from the world unseen, absolved from it all, or destroyed. Then there are those that peer, at the infinity farther than here, embraced by the void then returned, selves sundered thrice then burned While I have a moment to breathe amidst a hard schedule, here is some practice for drawing a propaganda poster depicting two heroes, the concept for it was that it's meant to motivate explorers or adventurers (like the kind you'd see at a JRPG guild) to also be heroic and take on quests or something. I haven't thought of the words that would go on it, but I have thought about how in a world where everyone is a biomechanical super cyborg they have to be particularly special in some way to be the faces of the Empire like this Currently I think they're meant to be heroes similar to the kinds that you'd see in a JRPG, sometimes that gets translated to "Braves" when games are localized - but the idea is they've achieve specific very extreme feats, and have been recognised by Divinity in a way that isn't quite the same as the way the Gods of this fictional world normally recognise specific cyborgs The other big element to this is that the administration has tweaked their visages in the poster to look more fierce, and as a way to misdirect assassins. Presumably they've even gone a step further and camouflaged the exact colour their energy signatures are, which is why it's all rainbowish here, making it harder to identify them, or which God is their patron I've drawn these characters before back when my art was still gray on gray, so they do have names, but nowadays I'd probably use a different naming scheme because I want to keep their roles ambiguous.

Ended up re-doing Ruta to be transmasc; they do have the other body type because there's certain armors + mods I want that only use tall F, so there's no helping it. I think this suits their character better so far, though--the male face didn't exactly capture the right personality.

Midnight Waltz.

Story: the Midnight Waltz, an anual dance held in a ball at professor Trein's hometown, is about to take place. This year, Trein has decided to take his students to the ball in order to learn about the place's culture and history, and hopefully win the competition for the 'Midnight Princess/Prince' as the headmage demands.

During their stay, the characters end up meeting Jasper and Angus who were visiting for the event, as their extended family lives there, and because they're fascinated by Daisy, the brothers decide to tag along, and Trein accepts as long as they don't cause any trouble and Daisy watches over them. However, once the group meets Trein's childhood friend and organizer of the event, Faadhil GoodMoore, ( @4necdote's OC) the brothers and Grim get into a petty fight and end up accidentally messing with Faadhil's magical wand, pointing it towards Daisy and making everyone forget about her.

Now, Daisy, Grim and the Souris brothers have to find a way to make things right before midnight when the waltz will start... Will Daisy be forgotten forever or will the group manage to get everyone's memories back?
