Jaden and Yuya are now my favorite dynamic of all time, and now that I’m being shown the similarities I’m wondering if it’s really just a coincidence GX and Arc-V are my absolute favorites out of all the Yugioh series this is insane 👀

(Uh. This got long so it's going beneath the cut for the sake of people's dashboards)

Well, first off, there's just a lot of similarities between Zarc (the original Zarc, before he split into the Yu-bois) and Jaden. Both can talk to duel spirits, both start out chipper and are driven to the edge by grief, both split into various personas/people (Jaden with himself and the supreme king, Zarc obviously into the Yu-bois), both fuse with their ace monster(s), and both carry the title of "Supreme King". Most interesting, to me at least, is how both shape a lot of their identities around what they think people want from them.

Zarc was content to be an amazing duelist, but felt pressured to put on a good show, to be more brutal. Jaden, more subtly, constructs most of his personality off being easygoing, chill, and carefree, because he internalized that his emotions are dangerous, and people would rather deal with happy Jaden than the emotional disregulation mess that he actually is.

And both of them, when they get overwhelmed, adopt a mentality of "Well, the world might as well burn with me."

Jaden, rather than feel his grief, locks off his own trauma behind a brick wall and goes on smiling. Yuya, rather than deal with his dads disappearance, does the same.

I'd also like it noted that supreme king Jaden and supreme king Yuya have yellow eyes.

And some teal/orange eye asymmetry

Honestly, even dragon form Yuya and the Supreme Kings armor have similar silhouettes.

Mostly its in the spikes on the shoulders and elbows, and the fact that Zarc Yuya forms a weird chestplate (and that this is the same art team and visual style)

Another thing I get hung up on is that both Jaden and Yuri have super poly. In GX, Jaden had to go through an entire arc of misery to get that card, and Yuri just? Has it?

So my little headcanon, is that in the original timeline, before the dimensions were split, Zarc had the spirit of The Supreme King, able to command duel monsters and wield The Gentle Dark. Unfortunately for everyone, he got a teensy bit traumatized before he could enact his destiny of defeating The Light Of Destruction. Using his powers, he fused with his dragons, nearly destroyed the world, etc, etc. When he split, the Supreme King couldn't just split into four the same way the rest of his soul could, and so while the dimensions split, the past was rewritten to attach the power to a different soul, with a different guardian to boot. Similar to how the timeline got all borked to set everything back to a late nineties world of duel monsters.

Which would make Yuya 1/4 of an alternate universe version of Jaden. And I think there's a lot of fun to be had with that idea :)

The Yuus of Blue Apts. Chapter 3: Request

Yuto chuckled lightly as he listened to his next-door neighbor and their downstairs neighbor playing classical music together. The walls were paper thin, and Yuto could hear the violin almost as well as the flute. The music was so pretty, the perfect background noise to accompany his painting.

The eggplant-haired painter dipped his paintbrush into his red paint, dabbing it onto his canvas. He was painting a sunset for a commission. As a freelance artist, he tended to work from home, though occasionally he went out to paint landscapes from reference. He had noticed that his downstairs neighbor and the two musical neighbors also appeared to work from home, or at least they didn’t seem to leave their apartments on regular schedules like most people with typical jobs did.

As the two musical neighbors finished a song, Yuto tilted his head. “Do you guys know Clair de Lune?” he called out.

“Oh! I know that one!” Next-Door said, sounding quite pleased at the request. “Do you know it?”

“Yeah, I know it,” their downstairs neighbor replied. The two musicians began playing the song on their instruments, and Yuto smiled. Plenty of people would despise having neighbors that rickrolled them every single day, but Yuto didn’t mind. He much preferred his musical neighbors over his upstairs neighbors. At least the musical neighbors kept their noise limited to the middle of the day, rather than all hours of the night.

“yes, satoru?”

“do you love me?”

“hmm, I don’t know; what do you think?”

your husband whines and dramatically collapses face-first on the bed, “don’t be so mean! you’re supposed to say ‘oh satoru! you’re the love of my life who I can never get tired of!’ and fangirl about my charm!”

you merely stare at him before deadpanning, “satoru, I pushed three kids out of my vagina for you.”

he clicks his tongue, “pretty girl, you shouldn’t use such vulgar words! what if the kids hear you?”

you roll your eyes and nudge his side with your foot, “get over here, you loser.”

he complains, “such a bully,” but still moves to lay on top of you. you feel him smile through your shirt and he sighs deeply (and happily like a SIMP) before speaking up, “I missed you.”

your eyes soften as your fingers card through his hair, something that he will never get tired of you doing, “me too, ‘toru; how’s everything at jujutsu tech, now?”

“same old same old,” he huffs and you can’t help but chuckle.

satoru rolls his eyes, affectionately, before asking, “where are the kids by the way?”

you look around and shrug, “I don’t know, but it’s eerily quiet today so maybe they went out with the first years.”

“so I have you all to myself?” your husband chuckles and looks up at you with his captivating blue eyes, “then how about I make you breakfast today?”

he presses a kiss to your stomach, “it will be a five star kind of meal that you will never forget.”

suddenly, you hear a bunch footsteps rushing to your door.

you also hear the screams of your three children combined.

yuto, the eldest, kicks the door open, “NO DAD! DON’T KILL MOM!”

the middle one, mio, nods with teary eyes, hiding behind her older brother.

meanwhile, the youngest one, shiro, just jumps around screaming continuously ‘DON’T DIE MOMMY!’

looking confused, satoru pouts but gets off the bed, nonetheless, “what are you kids on about?”

satoru picks up shiro, who clings to him quickly, and wipes the tears off his face, “I wasn’t going to hurt mommy, not in a million years.”

he looks at them with a confident grin, “I was only going to make her breakfast!”

“EXACTLY!”

it takes satoru a few seconds to register what they all said.

“OH YOU BRATS! MY COOKING ISN’T THAT BAD!” he finally says and they all shake their head, albeit with fear, except your oldest son.

yuto looks at him, with sass he most definitely acquired from you, “dad, you nearly sent mio to the hospital when you made her a birthday cake.”

“I did not!” he hurriedly looks at your daughter, “you liked the cake that daddy made, right, mio?”

your daughter just walks towards you, completely avoiding her dad’s question, and instead just cuddles up to you.

satoru gasps and yuto rolls his eyes before patting his father’s back, “just don’t cook for mom, please.”

shiro jumps off his father’s arms and nods at him slowly, “yes please! we love her too much to have you do that!”

satoru falls to the ground and clutches his chest, “betrayed by my own children.”

he then looks at you, who’s now being hugged by all three, and whines, “wifeyyy! do something!”

you blow him a kiss and even in his ‘suffering’ state, he catches it.

you would think that this meant that you will have mercy on his oh so broken heart, but said heart drops to his stomach at your next words.

“let’s make daddy a pretty princess with horns!”

By the morning, Zankoku is done so he quickly runs, enhanced by the amount of yokai blood that he’d consumed. Miki’s eyes close as she whispers a very weak cry for help* “S-….someone… p-….please help m-…me….” *She goes unconscious, barely clinging to life*

*Yuto wakes up with a yawn and smiles down at the Mikitama in his arms, unaware that this is a demon.*

The Yuus of Blue Apts. Chapter 2: Pleasant Music

Yugo pouted furiously at the wall separating his apartment from his next-door neighbor’s. It was bad enough that he heard the person in the apartment above theirs rickrolling every single day at 2PM without fail, but now next-door was joining in too?! How dare they!

Eventually the rickroll ended, and Yugo heard the two musical neighbors start playing different songs. It seemed that next-door was just as musically knowledgeable as their upstairs one, because they seemed to know all the songs that Mr. (or Ms. or maybe even Mx.?) Daily 2PM Rickroll played. They would join in on their violin only a few moments after Rickroll Neighbor began playing a song on their flute.

Yugo had to admit, after the rickroll ended the music played was actually quite pleasant. The blunana normally didn’t actually mind the rickrolls because they signaled the beginning of some very relaxing music. Yugo liked to listen to the music as he washed his dishes. It was soothing.Listening to Next-Door and Daily-Rickroll play some classical music together as he washed his dishes, Yugo smiled. The music sounded even nicer than usual. Probably because there were two instruments playing today instead of just one. The blunana wondered if it would be worth it to break out his old childhood ocarina and join in. It had been years since he’d played it, and he wasn’t sure he remembered how.
