I’m still freaking out about Spock Prime’s TOS crew photo from Beyond

Yes, I know this is 8 years old at this point but my Autistic Brain decided to freak out about this again today for no reason at all so hear me out bc it drives me absolutely NUTS every time I think about it.

So basically, the circumstances required for Reboot Spock to find this photo in Spock Prime’s possessions after he died are absolutely wild. Let’s walk through it shall we:

First thing to remember is that this photo does not exist in the Kelvin timeline. At all. The characters all look different and even if they’re supposed to canonically grow up to look exactly the same as the TOS characters, Spock Prime went back in time from his own universe so the photo cannot exist in the Kelvin timeline, at least yet.

Second thing is that Spock Prime must have carried this photo on his person when he went back in time in the jellyfish ship.

This is because Nero captured Spock (and his ship) and stranded him on Delta Vega, presumably with nothing but the clothes on his back and whatever else he might happen to have been carrying in his pockets.

Also, he couldn’t have stored the photo on his ship to retrieve later because Reboot Spock blew it up to ignite the red matter and destroy Nero’s ship. So whatever Spock Prime brought with him from the Prime Universe must have been on his person when he was stranded on Delta Vega.

Now, when Spock first sees Reboot Kirk in the cave, he says the classic “I have been and always shall be your friend” along with “It is remarkably pleasing to see you again, old friend.”

If we take a peek at the timeline for a sec, Kirk Prime disappeared into the Nexus in Star Trek: Generations in the year 2293, when everyone presumably thought he died. Now, Kirk did reappear into ‘normal space/time’ in the year 2371 when the rest of Generations takes place, but only Picard really saw Kirk before he died for real—so basically, the last time Spock could have seen Kirk Prime was in 2293. In the Prime Universe, the Romulan star went supernova in 2387, which is when Spock Prime goes back and creates the Kelvin Timeline.

SO: all this means that it has been at least 94 years (2293-2387) since Spock Prime has seen a Kirk in any universe. THEREFORE: this means that Spock Prime was carrying THAT TOS CREW PHOTO on his person 94 years after the last time he had seen Kirk. Whether he had been carrying it on his person for the entirety of those 94 years, or just during his mission to try and save Romulus, or something in between is anyone’s guess. But basically, even almost a century later, Spock thought those people and that photo were important enough to take with him on his body when he was sent to save Romulus. (A mission that required extreme speed and efficiency, if I might add).

ANYWAY: the photo in Beyond is shown as a rather small, yet touching, moment of nostalgia for fans of the original Star Trek show, but when you really start to think about what was required for that photo to exist in Reboot Spock’s possession at that moment, it just starts to drive me a little bit absolutely bonkers.

the fact that we've reached this moment where thomas ends his career in international football with germany nt, leaves those feelings inside our hearts, that feelings of us will missing not only him, but also all of the german players who we grew up watching them playing on the pitch together, through highs and lows....if i being honest, the 2010s germany squad truly brings a lot of nostalgia for me and for sure all of you guys feel the same....whatever it is, i just want to say thank you so much to thomas because you are one of the reason why germany still going strong in highs and lows....also, thank you so much for bring us joy of watching the whole squad in action in more than a decade....i'll always remember you and also other germany nt players who play with you together 🖤❤️💛

Dick and Barbara's Engagement

Dick and Barbara announcing their engagement to Dick’s siblings had been weird.

Cass had looked Barbara straight in the eyes, asked “are you sure?” then punched Dick in the bicep, saying “Don’t mess this up.”

Dick had stood there, rubbing his arm, as Tim had kissed Barbara on the cheek then clapped Dick on the same shoulder. “Are either of you dying?” he asked.

Barbara laughed. “Not that I’m aware!” Dick’s smile had taken on a sickly cast.

By the time Damian had squinted at Barbara and said “…this is acceptable. You make Richard happy,” Dick looked ready to climb the walls.

“Hey man, I don’t know what’s wrong with everyone, but congrats. This has been coming forever,” said Jason.

“Thanks, Jason,” said Dick. He’d perked back up a little at Jason’s words.

That evening before patrol, the main discussion (argument) going on as people got ready was over who Dick was going to ask to be Best Man.

Jason’s main point was that, as the eldest, it would naturally be him.

Damian, however, was busily asserting that, as Dick’s Robin, he’d worked with Dick the most and it was simply natural for Dick to ask him.

Tim was ignoring them both.

“Counting yourself out already?” Jason asked, curious.

Tim looked up from the computer he was working on. “I don’t see the point. It’ll be Wally.”

“I think you are mistaken,” said Damian. “Why would Richard choose West over any of his brothers?”

Tim shrugged. “I’m the only person here who’s been to Dick’s previous two weddings.”

“What does that mean?” asked Damian sharply.

“It means I know how these things tend to go.”

“Talking about me?” Dick swung into the Cave and headed for the lockers, Barbara beside him.

“Timothy here is claiming he has extra insight into your wedding choices due to his experience,” said Jason sarcastically.

A look of nostalgia crossed Dick’s face. “Oh no. That’s true. It’s just you and the original Titans now, isn’t it?”

“Yeah,” said Tim. They exchanged a rueful glance.

“What were you discussing?” asked Barbara.

“Oh, the others were speculating on who was going to be Best Man. I just said it would be Wally.”

“I haven’t actually decided yet,” said Dick.

“Mmmm.” Tim put his hands behind his lower back and stretched. “Have you mentioned that to the Titans?”

Barbara covered her mouth and laughed. “Oh Tim. Wally was terribly unfair to you last time, wasn’t he?”

Tim shrugged. “He barely knew me at that point.”

Dick looked at Barbara. “Speaking of previous weddings. You’d better warn your father everyone’s going to comment on the minister.”

“Why would they comment on the minister?” asked Jason. “What sort of weddings have you had, Dick?”

“Don’t worry about it,” said Dick firmly. “It’s unlikely to happen again.”

“You say that yet you’ve been to most of the weddings in this community,” Barbara pointed out. “At least Bruce has to turn up for more than the fight this time.”

Dick made a face and held up one finger. “He came to the last wedding.”

“He came to it because it was at the Manor,” said Barbara.

“He came to it because he’s the one who suggested the plan,” said Tim.

“I really wish both of you knew less of my history,” said Dick.

Tim looked at Barbara. “Are you going to make sure he gives you a wedding night this time?”

Barbara smirked. “Well I wasn’t planning on discussing the details with you, but yes, the plans don’t involve Dick sleeping on the couch.”

Dick’s face was turning red. “Can you not, Tim?”

“Oh I’m sorry, I just remember how chivalrous you were last time.”

Jason was staring between them. “Wait. Go back. Two weddings? I assume one was Kory, but were you the other one, Barb?”

“Oh no, it wasn’t me,” said Barbara. “No, you’ll have to ask Dick for the sordid details.”

“It wasn’t sordid!”

“It kinda was,” said Tim.

”Gotta agree there,” said Barbara. She kissed Dick on the cheek. “I love you. I’ll give you first go at explaining your previous poor decisions before they all come to me later for the real story.”

“Babs!”

Father of Time Chapter 78: When Gods Cry

It made Link nervous when he heard about the deities dying. While he knew his dad almost perished when the mask broke, that felt different from knowing there were monsters that could kill them. Sure, some of the things he had fought in the past had been really difficult but he had just been a mortal kid; surely nothing like that would test a deity in the same way. 

Well, except maybe Majora. 

When even Enma, sarcastic and off-putting on the best of days, had real pain in zir voice, he decided to give his family some space.  What could he even say to them that would have any meaning at all?  So he wandered off to look around the hot springs, enjoy how clear it was up here above the storm.  The air was frigid and thin this high up but the view was amazing, just like atop Nayru's Mountain.  It was peaceful and beautiful in its own, austere way.  Link picked his way carefully around damp, icy stones, not really going anywhere in particular, following a feeling he couldn't name.  

The plain behind the spring was a different matter entirely.  It hadn't been touched by anything but the elements in many hundreds of years but told a tale of an ancient battle that was waged and nearly lost. Where there should be mountain peaks were chunks of rock and slag. Pockmarked surfaces were half filled with ice and snow, half empty holes that whistled with the winds in a deeply mournful song.  For the first time in his life, Link found music that he didn't enjoy, that caused him pain to hear.  This was an ancient song, trapped in a place of horror, a cry of pain and sacrifice and loss that tore at his heart with claws that had also left their mark on Hebra's face.

A deity had died here.
