Summary:
American journalist Nick Orton is caught up in the world of Chinese gods and monsters while on a search for the long lost manuscript to 'Hsi Yu Chi' (The Journey to the West) by Wu Ch'eng En. He is accompanied on his journey by a humanoid ape with incredible strength and magical powers, a humanoid pig-man, and his brother-in-arms, an ex-cannibal. Based on one of the greatest stories in Chinese history.
Nicholas Orton (played by Thomas Gibson) is an American businessman who has lived in China for several years. He has a chance encounter with a beautiful Chinese lady (played by Bai Ling) who says that he is the only one who can save the world from reverting five-hundred years. He is unswayed by this until many modern buildings begin disappearing before his eyes. This mystical lady (revealed later as Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion) transports him to a portal which offers entrance, through the teachings of Confucius (played by Ric Young), to the ancient Chinese underworld.
When Orton (soon to be named The Scholar From Above) reaches the other side of the portal, he finds that his studies of Confucius will come in handy for the path that lies ahead. Orton's first action is to rescue Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, from the mountain in which he has been imprisoned for centuries. Wukong travels with Orton in his quest to save the original manuscript of Journey to the West from retroactive destruction; if the story itself is erased from history, all of the people who were ever inspired by the lessons it teaches will be worse off, and history will permanently change for the poorer. They are later joined by Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) and Sha Wujing (Friar Sand) to help them on their way.

The story of the romance between the King of Siam (now Thailand) and the widowed British school teacher Anna Leonowens during the 1860s. Anna teaches the children and becomes romanced by the King. This story departs pretty drastically from the original text and turns into more of a sentimental love story tempered by treasonous activities from within the King’s extended family. The principle performances are both gentle and sensitive, though Jodie Foster’s accent is a little forced, and Bill Stewart puts in a good effort as the dodgy British trader “Mycroft Kincaid”. It is just too far removed from the original for me, but I’d watch it again….

Thermal conductivity characterization of three dimensional carbon nanotube network using freestanding sensor-based 3ω technique
Publication date: 15 July 2018 Source:Surface and Coatings Technology, Volume 345 Author(s): Qinyu Kong, Lin Qiu, Yu Dian Lim, Chong Wei Tan, Kun Liang, Congxiang Lu, Beng Kang Tay A novel three-dimensional (3D) carbon nanotube (CNT) network, composed of vertically aligned CNT array (primary CNT) bridged with randomly oriented secondary CNT, is synthesized in this work. We report the first data for the thermal properties of this new structure using freestanding sensor-based 3ω technique. Introducing freestanding sensor to conventional 3ω system enables the nondestructive characterization for samples with rough surfaces. The thermal conductivities of CNT films, as well as the contact resistance between the sensor and sample surfaces, are extracted numerically by a finite-element thermal model. The thermal conductivities of 3D CNT network under different array densities range from 9.3 to 19.8 W/mK. It is found that at lower CNT array density of 5.6 × 108/cm2, the growth of secondary CNT enhances the thermal conductivity of primary CNT array by 55.9%. This significant improvement in thermal conductivity can be attributed to the additional thermal pathway provided by the secondary CNTs in the primary CNT forest. However as the density of primary CNT array increases beyond 7.2 × 108/cm2, the growth of secondary CNTs on primary CNT forest reduces its thermal conductivity. This reduction in thermal conductivity can possibly be caused by the excessive thermal resistance from the CNT-CNT connection points within 3D CNT network.

Video
tumblr
lim.yubeng I wouldn't normally show a rehearsal. But I want people outside my industry to know the prep it takes to do the work we do. This video was shot by the stunt team a few days before shooting this scene. It was a rehearsal on set, with the camera doing what was planned for shoot day. The entire thing would be shot in one continuous shot, so no double was intended to be used. Victor Thi Lopez choreographed the fight. And he would be my double if need be, but the intention was not to. @freddy_b_ and Victor and our incredible stunt team took care of me, coached me, kept me safe and feeling good about myself, determined to make me look good, when it was actually them doing all the crazy high risk stuff. I cannot speak highly enough about their commitment, their attack, the attention to detail, and the positive energy pervading the whole set. So this is me saying THANK YOU GUYS. It's my privilege to have worked with you all.

In our 2016 Arts and Culture Employment Survey , nearly half of the respondents indicated that they work primarily on a freelance basis. We agree that more can be done to enhance professional support for independent artists, to help our freelance artists grow meaningful careers. In 2017, MOM and NAC consulted arts freelancers and key employers to gather their feedback. We have developed a Support Framework that fosters fair and progressive employment conditions, and meets our freelancers’ professional development needs. NAC and NHB will be early adopters of MOM’s Tripartite Standard for Contracting Self-Employed Persons. We will also encourage arts groups and institutions within the wider culture sector to implement these measures. Independent artists raised a wish list for better access to resources, training and networking. We will therefore set up a national resource centre, in both physical and digital forms, dedicated to supporting the needs of arts freelancers. The centre will conduct training programmes, as well as provide resources and services on individual rights and responsibilities, career development and finance. Extract of my speech in parliament, 8 Mar 2018 Photos featuring some of our talented local arts practitioners, clockwise from top left: Lim Yu Beng, Janice Koh, Darren Mg, Nelson Chia, Joanna Dong, Kray Chen, Judee Tan, Loo Zihan, Siti Khalijah #MCCY #nationalartscouncil #freelancers
