i love these scenarios but im kind of tired of shuake/akeshu that makes akiren emotionally overdependent on akechi's survival. like... i wont deny the inherent homoeroticism and sheer fucking weight of akechi's survival being akiren's one true wish in maruki's reality and akiren wondering about akechi in the games epilogue...

but... one of the ending points of the game (esp in vanilla, still in royal) + strikers is that akiren won't have to alone in his struggles anymore (yes! despite moving back to his hometown!)

not to mention the thieves' den convo with the other PTs. the PTs might not fully understand what akiren and akechi have and been through but they still get it to an extent-- they don't need to fully understand each detail for them to stand by their leader. they still do grieve and support akiren and akechi (somewhat.) even futaba and haru. and although i also wont deny that i also do hc that akiren does have issues regarding expressing himself and his emotions... my point is:

i highly doubt that akiren could ever forget akechi. i highly doubt that akiren would let himself do that-- after all, they have a promise to keep. but also, i highly doubt that akiren would just sit in stagnation. that's not him, and he has his confidants and friends to support him.

he'll grieve akechi, definitely. he probably would never forget him. of course there will be an empty space left in his heart after third semester. it won't be linear, there's no guarantee that it won't be messy. but... ultimately... i see him living with his grief, taking it on stride. he's going to be fine.

with akechi alive or not, i see that akiren living his best life with akechi's memory in tow instead of having his memory tying him down is the best way to honor their promise. akechi's life was never trivial to akiren, but he still chose their true reality in the end. i doubt that the man who made that decision would trivialize his life chasing ghosts when he deliberately chose to move forward.
