🃏A Road To Recovery ⊙

Being the newest troll in the circus troupe, as unintentional as it was, Jezakk often stood out like a sore thumb when it came to showcasing his skillsets. He was unbearably graceless, even though he had never adorned the classical shoes that the clowns seemed so fond of. He left trails in his wake, whether or not it was a physical presence. Scent trails, more often than not, that were unbearably easy for a certain other troll to pick up on. While the tinkerer had never established himself as a sociable troll, he kept himself silent despite his yearnings for interaction of any kind. It was a strange fear that helped him maintain his otherwise unassuming nature, though it did nothing to deter one Othamo Oculus. If anything, the smaller of the two had the feeling he was being watched around a corner more often than not, regardless of Othamo’s lack of sight.

Then, there was always the heaviness. Although noticeably thinner and smaller in stature when compared to the other purplebloods around him, there was an uneasy leadening feeling that occasionally swept him, and it was nothing that he could yet explain. Of course, there were quite a lot of things that he had failed to glean from his short time in the facility, when he was conscious. The only conclusion he could draw was that it was a power-based backlash from his time as Othamo’s chucklevoodoo puppet. Jezakk felt there were also things that he had been told then, critically, that his amnesia - as a result of the unfortunate puppetry - had made him forget.

This was one of those times that he didn’t want to forget. Jezakk sat out in the hallways leading to one room of the Mordant King, the ringmaster of the whole group and undisputed Lord of the Circus. Panton Magnic was his name, but that title had been long since forgotten in favour of raw greed and want to establish his power with a title. Sometimes, his tinkerer mused that Othamo was no longer the main puppeteer of the troupe. He fidgeted restlessly with the small golden pendant he had been given on his first day, twisting it around in his claws and glancing downwards to catch the Capries as it flashed in the light of the windows. These windows, Jezakk thought, were unnecessarily large, and depicted circus acts in manners more suited to scenes of the Sufferer’s preaching than entertainments.

He looked around himself, heart beginning to pound in his chest. Panton’s name was the only memory he had retained from the many-sweep-long amnesia, and he wasn’t sure why. It barely mattered. If he shared it with anyone, he feared being exiled from the troupe and never seeing Sealdad again. And the healing of his father’s injury was exactly what landed him in the troupe in the first place. It was strange how desperate he had once been to get into the area, because all he wanted now was to escape. But there was a moral dilemma to deal with, and that was the fact that he would have to choose between his friend and his father if he wanted to get out. As much as Othamo gave Jezakk the creeps, he remained one of the lucky few that held his attention for long enough.

There were vaguely familiar voices behind the door, those of Ferrum and Mierle, two of the other purplebloods that he often crossed paths with. They were friendly enough, but he was wary nonetheless. Tilting his head and standing, he realised that there was no way he was going to hear the conversation. After a few moments, they exited together, looking quite shaken. Laughing dryly to himself, Jezakk shivered in anticipation and dread. He’d not been looking forward to any sort of meeting with the ringmaster, and the unnaturally hesitant appearances of the other trolls did nothing to reassure him. Smiling at them as they passed, he forced his hands to his sides and entered the room without waiting for Panton to call him through.

First mistake.

There was something unnerving about the way that Panton swivelled on his heel to greet the other, and the calm smile that he wore did nothing to soften the sharpness in his gaze. Something told Jezakk silently to turn tail - literally, as it squeezed around his waist tight enough to hurt - and get out of there before he was sliced into. Instead, the tinkerer bowed his head to show his respect, stepping forward. Despite his acquaintances’ nervousness, the naive tinkerer saw next-to-nothing that he should have been concerned about until the ringmaster raised an eyebrow, clasping his hands in front of his body neatly and beginning to speak. His tone was soft and disarming, made to rekindle a false sense of security. Although the smaller knew this, he couldn’t help but begin to let his guard down.

“Y/o\)u( KN/o\W, JEZAKK, I’VE BEEN THINKING AB/o\)u(t Y/o\)u( RECENTLY.”

This caused Jezakk’s eyebrows to raise in alarm, but he was otherwise still. He’d had to work on suppressing his fidgeting in fear of irritating the other troupe members, which had also caused him to unintentionally become skilled in preventing general movements and emotional displays. Raising his head to look at Panton, he remained silent.

“THERE’S A SMALL J/o\B I WANT Y/o\)u( T/o\ D/o\ F/o\R ME, AND THERE IS N/o\ /o\NE ELSE Q)u(ITE S)u(ITED F)o(R IT. Y/o\)u( ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE BEES, I TR)u(ST? I HAVE SPENT AN ADMITTEDLY L/o\NG TIME SEARCHING F/o\R S/o\ME/o\NE WILLING T/o\ C)u(LTIVATE THEIR H/o\NEY, AND I HAVE N/o\W C/o\ME T/o\ A RECENT F/o\REG/o\NE C/o\NCLUSI/o\N THAT Y/o\)u( MAY J)u(ST BE THE PERFECT CANDIDATE.”

Jezakk often spoke without foreseeing consequence, and lacked much of a social filter. It proved itself a dire slip to make more often than not.

“I’Ll do IT, sir.”

Panton’s smile widened, showing off rows of teeth more suited to a shark than any troll. It was less comforting than it was menacing, and the ringmaster’s next words sent a chill through his subordinate’s whole body for no clear reason.

“AH, GOOD! I AM S/o\ GLAD I F/o\UND Y/o\)u(, JEZAKK. Y/o\)u( START IMMEDIATELY, N/o\ Q)u(ESTI/o\NS ASKED. ASK /o\C)u(L)u(S F/o\R ASSISTANCE IF Y/o\)u( M)u(ST AND BEAR IN MIND THE AM/o\)u(NT /o\f FAITH I AM PLACING HERE. D/o\ N/o\T BREAK IT, F/o\R THE C/o\NSEQ)u(ENCES WILL BE DIRE.”

And with that, Panton Magnic returned to his work. Jezakk shifted in his stance. There was a creak as the door was leaned against by another from the outside, and the man only looked up once more from his work before smiling - almost threateningly, despite the lack of teeth - and waving to dismiss the troll in front of him.

Leaving the room, the little tinkerer never expected to see Othamo already there and waiting for him to follow. Placing a hand on the blind troll’s shoulder to indicate where he stood, he looked towards his companion.“WElL shIt. DIDn’T expEcT TO hEar thaT. UH… wEll. I KNoW yoU caN gENERaLlY SMEll yoUr waY AROuNd pRettY weLL, oThAMO, Sir, BUt I thINK I’ll LEAve THe hEAvY LIfTin tO VIZeRA aNd LUmIra WHen I CAn GeT THeM to LIsTen ENOugH.”

Othamo raised an eyebrow, waving to Jezakk as if trying to snap him out of some kind of daze. There, on the palm of his hand, was a carefully drawn eye. Jezakk looked dumbly at it, placing his hand over the one seemingly offered to him. This caused the other to flinch back, curling his nose in disgust. The scent of lemons was heavy in the air, which made him smile despite the distaste he’d show moments prior. He treated those inferior to him as they should have been treated, and never once considered that the tinkerer - a newbie, fresh meat, the perfect little puppet for his games - would be any different, regardless of the time he had in an uncomfortably close proximity and seeing through his eyes. Although it was normally an unpleasant, sharp scent, the undertones of fruitiness unique to the other made fear smell inviting.

“i can see a little bit, y⊙u kn⊙w. en⊙ugh t⊙ want t⊙ c⊙mment ⊙n h⊙w idi⊙tic that was t⊙ assume.”

He murmured, pointing towards the eye on his palm and inadvertently causing Jezakk to look down towards it, even though he had nervously averted his gaze prior. The lemon still hung in the air between them, and the smaller’s appreension was unrelenting. Tension ran through his every movement, and the stiffness was what caused him to fumble and almost trip over. He likely would have, had Othamo not reached out to steady him, unintentionally knocking their bodies a little closer than was comfortable. The taller chuckled, letting his arms fall from around Jezakk and noting how powerful his lemon scent was after that, enough to make his head spin.

“i can generally see thr⊙ugh eye shapes as well, n⊙t just y⊙ur eyes. thatd be selfish, d⊙nt y⊙u think? als⊙, the legends are true. y⊙u smell ⊙f blackberries and fear.”

Jezakk nodded silently, seeing that Othamo would notice the gesture without shifting his arm. He couldn’t help but laugh in fear, even though his words were stuck in his throat, making it near impossible to muster any vocal reply. There was something disarming about the puppeteer, but he was entirely aware of what he was doing. It was making Jezakk on edge, constantly, and he hated it. As such, he sped up his walking, attempting to get as far away from his companion as possible. Due to his dismal height difference, it only took a few rapid strides for Othamo to catch up.

He still intended for the others to help, however, so he continued on his merry way while periodically checking whether or not his ‘friend’ remained at a safe distance from him. There was really no use bothering him further. The first section of the journey to his practice room - as it was in an entirely separate tent to the Ringmaster’s quarters - was filled with a tense silence, which at least one of the pair seemed to heavily regret. The tinkerer was spinning his Capries necklace about in his fingers as an anxious fidget once again, something he performed under stress frequently enough that he took no notice of the action more often than not. Attempting to break the silence, Othamo spoke. It was more of a private mumble than anything directed towards Jezakk, despite that he was wrongly addressed.

“i have n⊙ idea why that jerk th⊙ught it was a g◎︶◉d idea t⊙ put me in charge ⊙f the bees, jazakk.“

“JazAkK? I’M jEzAkk.”

To this, the puppeteer simply shrugged, giving his companion a toothy smile. There was no true joy in the action, and it was unnervingly similar to the Ringmaster’s in that it was more threatening than anything else. Othamo never appeared to drop his grin, which was one of the other reasons Jezakk found it hard to detect whether or not he was being genuine about his expressions. Reaching to place a hand on Jezakk’s shoulder in a mimicry, his claws dug deeper than necessary. He spoke in a hiss, though there was some lightness to it that was reassuring. As if he never meant to threaten, but it was habitual.

“well, y⊙ure n⊙t t⊙ me. y⊙ur ⊙fficial nickname is jazzy n⊙w.”

“I- fiNE. BuT You cAn’T LEt anyONe eLsE knoW… Ah, hERE we aRe. WaNnA CoMe in fOr a BIT? I dOn’t miNd thE cOMpAnY. NObOdy elSe mUch PUTs UP wIth me THeSe daYs. SoRRy… Uh, sOrRY AbOUt thE mEss. I’VE bEen tiNKerINg QUItE a BIT. sEcreT PRoJect.”

The tinkerer, still fidgeting restlessly, rubbed at the back of his neck.

“I SHoUld proBabLY gO anD sOrt ouT the BEE buSINess foR a Bit. NOw thAt I knoW yoU don’T wannA dEal WITh thEm. FeEL frEe to LOOk arOunD, i guEss.”

With that, he left his friend to his own devices for a moment, which likely wasn’t a good idea. There were things scattered all over the place in a frantic manner, as if there had been a fight or something had occurred very quickly. Otherwise, the room seemed relatively empty on the ground, instead hosting shelves that lined the walls filled with boxes of all shapes and sizes. These were Jezakk’s pride and joy; the jack-in-the-boxes were what he was known for among his friends, and rightfully so. He’d definitely honed his craft, making them with an unprecedented love and precision.

Luckily enough, certain trolls - such as Othamo himself, and Jezakk - had been born with tails, according to whether or not their lusus had one, although it was rare. This enabled Othamo to better navigate the room, sweeping objects aside and out of his path to sit and wait for his friend’s return. Closing his eyes, the troll noticed soon enough that there was a strangely printed pair of leggings discarded across a chair, and his grin widened. Perfect. Their ocular design - unnerving to some, and even more so to Othamo himself because of his phobia - would enable him to see properly, though significantly blurred. He had chosen to sit on Jezakk’s recuperacoon, which had been fitted with a cover. It seemed nearly unused.

Activating the chucklevoodoos he was so adept at using, feeling about for the eyes and latching onto them, he made sure to keep his own closed. He wouldn’t need them. Observing the room through his ’new’ sight made his head spin, more than it ever had before. But the fruity scents were like a comforting punch in the nose, so to speak, and it helped him relax slightly and disregard the strangeness of it. There was nothing he could see that would possibly reveal the secret Jezakk had mentioned beforehand, or so he thought. The truth was that he wished to sell his jack-in-the-boxes to help him gather enough Caegars and ensure a safer escape from the troupe.

Meanwhile, Jezakk had located one of the two trolls he wished for help, and he was glad to find that ze was pleasant enough for him to avoid losing his composure. Vizera was slightly too loud for his tastes, and he kept his distance from the acrobat beside him, recalling the enthusiasm with which she had accepted his comparatively gentle plea for assistance. It was not exactly his ideal bottle of Faygo.

“LuMira? YEs, hElLo. It’S… JEzAkk, AND i Don’t THiNk we’VE reaLLy spOken, bUT i wAS WOndeRIN if I couLd HavE soMe heLp mOVIn thEse BeEhOUsEs inTo mY roOm.”

“YEAH, LLLLLUMIIIIIRA! HELLLP THE KIIIID OUT, WON’TCHA? HE’S A NEWBIIIE, AND YOU KNOW HOW THE RIIINGMASTER GETS IIIIF NEWBIIIES GET THIINGS WRONG!”

The troll at the door wore a pleasant smile, directing zir gaze towards Vizera and nodding before looking back towards the little tinkerer, who was significantly shorter than both of them.

With a small sigh of relief, Jezakk smiled towards Lumira - still, unfortunately, finding it rather difficult to speak because of the new people around him - and led the two through the task, eventually saying his shaky goodbyes to the two and returning behind the safely closed doors of his room. His heart was pounding in his chest, and there was nothing that could have possibly prepared him for the sight that greeted him in that moment. It was an absolute mess. Everything that was scattered on the floor beforehand had been shoved to the side messily. The fact that a few of the jack-in-the-boxes had fallen from their shelves had just established itself as the second most distressing sight there.

The first, of course, was Othamo.

Immediately, the smaller’s hands retrieved his card deck, and he began to rapidly shuffle them as a reaction to his nerves. There was nothing else he could think of except the boy on the floor, but his body completely refused to move in a way he wanted it to. It was hard to decipher what had happened, exactly, but Othamo was laid out on the floor, staring blankly towards the tapering ceiling with eyes weakly flickering purple. He looked as if he’d been almost paralysed. Tears dripped their way down his cheeks, an even paler lavender than his eyes themselves. The only sound in the room - that Jezakk could hear - was the beating of his own heart, so loud and panicked that it drowned everything else.

Jezakk wasn’t used to this at all. His claws were trembling as he shuffled his cards around, silken gloves at risk of unravelling from where they were pulled high to his shoulders. He wasn’t truly expecting anyone to be with him within his practice room, let alone when he returned to it after Othamo had scheduled a busy day at the shows. Because he was new to the troupe, everyone else tended to have more performances than he did, which left him lonely. But here Othamo was, finally giving him the company he so craved, and he had no idea what to do. Everything was just a little bit too wrong, and no amount of physical messing around could fix it. So he distracted himself first, because his thinkpan wasn’t letting him make any lateral solution to the problem yet.

Tiptoeing around so that he didn’t disturb anyone else, Jezakk let his mind drift away from his friend for a moment. He placed his cards away, attempting and failing to regulate his breathing. How could he, when his pan was being wild? Instead, he walked around and picked up all of his boxes that had fallen, softly humming a show tune under his breath that he was fairly sure Panton himself had composed. He wasn’t sure why his pan had strayed to it, but he didn’t like it much. There was a funny taste in his mouth about it, because it meant that something about that suave, manipulative asshole was genuinely likeable. Shaking his head physically in an attempt to clear it, Jezakk placed the last box upon the shelves and redirected his attention to his friend.

Clearing a space to sit next to Othamo, he crossed his legs and began to sing a little louder. Even though his voice was croaky and awful because of the tears that had begun to greet his eyes and blur his vision, he continued, hoping that his voice would at least rouse the one on the floor. There wasn’t much else he was able to do, because he couldn’t properly attend to someone who was unconscious. Othamo was practically a dead weight as it stood, so manipulation would prove difficult for Jezakk. Nonetheless, he continued to sing to his friend, the frown lifting from his lips into a smile.

However negative, he enjoyed the time he spent with the puppeteer, and hoped Othamo felt the same. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, the clown gently wiped the tears away from his friend’s cheeks and eyes, which caused them to flutter and Othamo to stir. He flinched back, seeing the purple sparks that licked at his fingers, and shuffled his position so that he could give him some space to properly orientate himself.

“Ah, SHit, sORRy otH. DidN’T, UH, didN’t meAN tO hUrT YOu or ANytHIn…”

Othamo’s unseeing gaze followed Jezakk’s voice when he struggled into a sitting position, and he shrugged, not having gathered enough composure to vocalise his thoughts. Everything was spinning, and he felt dizzy even though there was no visual indication of it.

Although there was no longer a smile upon the tinkerer’s face, he was relieved beyond expression that Othamo had actually stirred. His fears often caught up with him, and he’d panicked about leaving the other troll to get into a bigger accident. Observing the smudging face paint smeared across his puppeteer’s cheeks in blackened tear trails, he pursed his lips. Softly telling Othamo to wait - as if he could do anything else - Jezakk left the room, locating Othamo’s own and entering it. It was cluttered, sure enough, but he was soon able to locate some liquorice-scented face paint among the jars of scenting strings and return to his friend.

“HOLd on. I thInk YOu smUdGed, mAn. LEmMe heLp yoU.”

He murmured, lifting the puppeteer into his arms with a groan and placing him on top of his recuperacoon once more, back against the wall. He hopped onto the cover himself, settling beside Othamo with his supplies. Taking a makeup brush and some remover, he began to gently brush away the crust of old makeup and remove the rest. After he was mostly clean, Jezakk preceded to wash his friend’s face of the smears with warm water on a cloth, all the while mumbling rapid-fire apologies whether or not he’d actually hurt the troll. He didn’t know how long it’d been since the blind troll had been able to reapply it himself or bothered to, but it couldn’t have been good.

He wrinkled his nose upon twisting the paint’s cap off, the scent making him almost vomit. Why Othamo liked liquorice was something he’d never understand, but he dipped the brush into the pot and began to carefully outline the boy’s ‘mask’ nonetheless. Subconsciously, he found his singing beginning again as he worked but reducing itself to a vague hum. It was a habit he’d suppressed, like many others, but Othamo made him feel safer about expressing himself. Filling it in gently, with slow and rhythmic strokes, he was pleased to find that the paint was drying rather quickly.

“YOu shOuLd gET soMe reST, BRoTHer. I CAn’T be sURE hoW loNg yOu weRe ouT FOr, buT yoU SEEm tiRed AS alL hEll. I hoPe I DId yoUr FACe PaInt WELl enOugH. I guEss I’M prEttY LucKy THaT YOu cAm’T SEE it… I’LL chEck On yoU LAtER, but I SHouLd go DEaL witH acTaLLy geTTin ThE bees FOr thE hOuseS. YOu caN usE mY reCUPerAcoON toDaY, lOokin IN no RIgHT sTaTe tO BE MOvIN.”

Once again using his unprecedented, caste-granted strength, the boy moved Othamo enough to slip the cover away from under him and help him ease into the slime underneath. Jezakk remembered how warm and relieving the sopor was, especially for physical pain. He’d installed a special heating apparatus underneath it so he - or another recipient - wouldn’t get cold in the harsher Alternian months. Turning this on and walking towards the door, Jezakk flashed Othamo an equally warm smile that would go unseen, but was nice regardless. Feeling a deeper sense of satisfaction than he had in sweeps, the tinkerer flicked the lights off and partially drew the door closed.

- it's a shame you agreed to do anything when more than 50$ were on the line (O.O)

- your friends from high school thought it seemed like SUCH  a good idea to dare you to spend 3 hours in the woods next to your house in exchange for 60$

- the 3 hours of course starting from midnight

- but you weren't one to back down from that kind of stuff

- the only thing you had to do was to wait by the abandoned well surrounded by trees without anything to distract you (you trusted them with your phone anyway)

- tonight wasn't even that cold anyway

-so here you were, waiting for time to pass as you listened to the sounds around you

- you had always felt calmer in moments like these, by yourself at nighttime, just taking everything in

- the wishing part ? Okay. It's a normal thing to throw coins into fountains and wells and pray for things. But soulmates ? That seemed like a reach

- so you felt pretty dumb for staring into the dark pit of most likely freezing water as intensely

- you also felt pretty dumb for making sure that you brought a coin with you on this outting

- time seemed to slow down as you plummeted toward the surface of the water

- soon you came in contact with it, cold soaking your clothes and hurting all the way to your bones. You could see the moon thru the suprisingly clear water as well as the bubbles from your last reserve of air, all this caused you to pass out.

- in the capital of the kingdom MoeruFukuro, they were many things ; from kind townfolks, to golden rice paddies and from a gorgeous royal castle to roaming forest demons

- you heard me right

- the lands around were infested by demons and spirited who manifested at night, some benevolant and others not so much

- thankfully for the royal priest Tsukishima's magical talismans placed all around the town, the people could leave in peace, the malignant creatures knowing better than trying to overcome the spells

- the capital could pride itself all around the country for having ones of the most powerful and smart array of people there ever were in addition to being prosperous from the folks' trade businesses

- for example, in the royal palace, you could find as forementionned priest and mage; Tsukishima Kei, legend has it that he was blessed by Kaguya, the goddess of the moon herself in order to have such knowledge of spells

- there was also General Kuroo Tetsurou, who had his fair share of tales and admirers alike, the biggest one being the one in which he had saved a thousand men from a demon by sacrificing himself, earning its respect and protection in battle

- obviously there was the crowned prince, Bokuto Koutaro. Well he might seem a little air headed and childish at first sight but he takes his duties very seriously even if they consist in little things such as gathering the peoples' eventual complaints himself, some people going as far as saying that he is the closest thing to a god on earth

- and then, wherever Bokuto went, it would be near impossible to forget about his right arm and advisor, the wise and renowned astronomer Akaashi Keiji. If Tsukishima had been blessed by the moon goddess then many people believed that Akaashi was the one who tought Omoikane, god of wisdom and intelligence himself, everything he knew. He was everything people wished they were, calm, good looking, creative, reasonable and intelligent beyond mesure. No wonder he was the one Bokuto trusted the most by his side

- studying the sky also brought Akaashi much knowledge on seasons and the movements of stars and such, providing help to both the people and Tsukishima

- Akaashi did not live in the castle however, well technically yes but he did have a workshop of his own a bit farther in the territory, where he could dedicate himself to staring at the night sky he loved so very very much from his makeshift observatory/rooftop

- he also had a lovely well near his observation tower that Tsukishima had passive agressively insisted on cleansing for him (>.<)

- so there he was, in this particularly enchanting night

- something about that full moon, shining stars and clear sky just about almost got some tears out of him

- but he was interrupted when he heard a low growl from beneath his observation tower

- naturally he looked down to where it came from and saw a fire fox spirit inching suspiciously close to an unconscious girl on the ground near the well

- the demons avoided the talismans yes but that far from the heart of the city trickster spirits and ghouls could just about do as much chaos as they pleased

- rushing to get down, Akaashi took his bow and arrows ready to get rid of the spirit and make sure the girl, no matter how strange her clothes looked like, was safe

- it was fast work, his arrows reaped through the night air seemingly at lighting speed and quickly made the spirit disappear

- muttering a small banishing prayer he picked up the passed out girl and brought her on top of his observatory

- she was dry but she was still shivering from the cold

- "she must not be used to the cold" thought the young astronomer, taking off his haori to put on top of her frame and sitting down next to her, looking downwards at her now relaxed features

- he did not know why he brought her up there but right now it just felt right. So he went on with looking at the sky, resting his hands flat on the ground near his sides

- you were awake, enough to feel a warmth next to you but not enough to open your eyes yet

- you thought that you'd fallen asleep after making the wish and that your friends had carried you back to your room or something

- but it was to cold to be true

- you peaked slightly from between your lashes and were met with a GORGEOUS night sky

- usually in your city, the sky was too polluted to be able to see that many

- and the full moon seemed closer than usual, bewitching, enchanting, almost asking you to come to her, so in a way you did

- now fully awake, you outstretched your hand toward the celestial body, not really thinking in the moment

- "you're awake ! How are you feeling ?" said a silvery soft voice, almost similar to a whisper

- so similar you thought that you were still dreaming as it was the same one you've heard before imagining falling into the well

- your train of thought was quickly cut short by the feeling of warm hands around your own outstreched one

- oh this was definitly real

- you sat up im a swift movement, looking around you and only seeing trees and rice paddies, as well as the lights of a town in the distance

- you almost didn't hear the man's voice over your own rapidly beating heart

- almost

- "Everything's okay now, calm down" he said, probably noticing your panic and rubbing his thumb over your knuckles

- his words seemed to immediatly sink into your very soul at the second they came out of his mouth, and worst is that you thought that if it meant to be marked in such a way you would be glad to have your soul inked all over with just his words

- but you still didn't know him so you kept that thought to yourself

- "who are you and where am i ?" Your voice was so shaky and your mind so foggy that you weren't even sure if they ever made it out of your throat

- but Akaashi heard you loud and clearer than anything before, just touching your hand had seemed like such a common task but the needle like sensation that ran up his whole arm begged to differ, he regained his composure fast though

- "my name's Akaashi Keiji and you're in the kingdom of MoeruFukuro" he made sure to speak as softly as possible, never letting go of your hand, fearing that maybe, if he let go you would disappear back into the wind

- ".....my name's Y/N L/N....listen i don't think im supposed to be here- well more like...now"

- "what do you mean ?"

- and so you explained to him how you actually came from the 21st century in what you could only assume to be another timeline and universe, trying to sound as calm as possible

- because well, you weren't dumb, and castle as "cool and fantasy anime looking like that" were not so common

- Akaashi kept drinking in your voice, painfully aware of every movement of your face, every little speaking quirk and tones, never breaking contact

- he was fast in reassuring you on his own world, he spoke of his life, of his friends and of the castle, not leaving out the fact that demons and spirits were a common factor, carefully choosing his phrasing and explaining with the most concise words

- explaining so well that you felt as if you already knew all these things, deep in yourself

- and time passed

- you soon found yourself laying on you back, fingers still intertwined with the royal astronomer, talking about your lives, as if you were desperatly but as easily as breathing trying to make the other remember your existence, trying to get a part of your souls back

- the silence of the night made your voices reach the other in an almost pieircing melody, the deep blue and silver sky as your only witness of this moment

- "so you're an astronomer right.....why do you like the stars so much Keiji ?"

- oh man did he love hearing you say his name, it sounded like the rarest music he's ever heard coming from you

- "i guess it just comes easily to me....i've never felt lonely in the castle, my friends are supportive and strong even though i've never been particularly good with people....when i come here for reasons other than work and stare at the sky, it feels like im finally walking in my own feelings, finally able to search for something that i somehow always wanted..."

- he turned to your face and swore that he saw many more stars in your eyes than he has in his whole life and continued on

- " it feels- it felt like trying to find a part myself that had been fragmented and thrown into the universe....a part of myself that was very much more human than i thought"

- "oh" was all you could muster between that and the flood of feelings that was inside your heart

- you felt like you were running out of time.

- you felt like you had to make the most out of this precise instant.

- you suddenly jerked up, making Akaashi jump at the sudden move

- he sat up with you, facing you, unsure of what  that was all about

- " Keiji !" You said, full of determination despite the advanced hour of the night, and when he nodded and smiled, humming slightly as response you took it as your greenlight to continue

- " Let's find each other again ! Whether it be in this life or another ! We're bounded together now and im sure whichever gods brought me to you will make it happen again no matter what. So you have to promise me before it's too late....don't forget about me !"

- Akaashi's eyes bore into yours with as much intensity as yours and returning the smile you wore on your face

- he let go off your hand for the first time that night and you felt as if an invisible countdown just started somewhere

- he took of a teal and marine blue colored thread bracelet that he wore and put in on your wrist, it had a small crescent moon symbol made of nacre on it....how in character

- how....him

- "there. That way i won't ever forget you. I sure hope you don't forget about me either"

- the last thing your remembered was the gorgeous yet so undoubtfully sad smile of the astronomer before waking up, warm, in your own bed

- you looked around in a hurry and little did you know, you were back into your appartment's bedroom

- you figured it was just a dream

- and yet your heart was still beating against your ribcage and tears were stinging your eyes

- you looked at your phone to check the time since the sun had already went up and your eyes fell on the bracelet you were wearing on your wrist

- you wasted no time in DASHING out of your appartment straight to the old lady's, well too aware that what had happened last night was definitely not a dream

- as you rung the doorbell you were too busy trying to calm your heart that was still trying to beat out of your chest to hear an all too familiar voice from inside the appartment saying "i'll take this"

- the door opened and you almost fainted

- "hi ! Im Akaashi Keiji your new neighbor from next door.....have we met before ?"

Fluff - 22: “If you’re so cold, why didn’t you say something?  Come here.” 

You mindlessly tapped your cheek as you blankly starred at your computer screen.  You had an essay due in two days.  A required 2500 words in the typical MLA formate with the atrocious Times New Roman 12 font.  It’s not a difficult task, but when forced with a boring topic, just writing 500 words was god-awful.  You looked out your window, the heat from the open window filtering inside. 

It was summer.  With school ending soon, this essay was a make it or break it for your report card.  Sat in a pair of sports shorts, a tank top and tied up hair, you groaned.  It was hot, too hot and your A/C for the house had blown out the other day.  You were pulled from your daydreaming by your father calling you downstairs. 

“Coming!” You hollered as you slipped on a pair of flipflops and ran to your father.  You stopped at the open front door, crossing your arms with a disapproving look.  “Dad! Why did you buy another bookcase! Don’t tell me you’re getting more university study guides and books.”  Your father was a professor.  His home office littered with bookshelves or papers, folders, books of all kinds and the occasional knick-knack. 

“Don’t be a sour puss.  Come help me move it to my office.”  You shook your head. 

“No way.  Your wrist only just started to heal after your sprain.  You’re not lifting this anywhere.  Much less all the way to your office,” you scolded.  Your father only placed his hands on his hips. 

“Who else will move it?” 

“I’ll ask Jungkook.  He owes me a favor anyways.”  Jeon Jungkook, the infamous boy next door. Charming, handsome, respectful- to a degree- and studious.  The perfect appearance of a ‘good boy’ raised from birth.  Though he may be all these things, he is also arrogant.  Not to mention that ego of his.  The heartthrob at school and a swooning legend among middle-aged gals. 

Without giving your father a second glance, you crossed your lawn and marched into Jungkook’s.  Stepped on his doorstep, you ran the bell to be greeted by his mothers.  A sweet lady.  

“Afternoon Mrs. Jeon.  Could I borrow Jungkoo?  Dad bought a bookshelf and I don’t want him carrying it right now.” 

“My, of course, sweetheart.  Jungkook!”  In typical heartthrob fashion, Jungkook came trotting down the stairs, hands stuffed in his jeans and white u-neck shirt untucked as he whistled some random tune. He let a smirk cross his lips at the sight of you in his doorway.  “Go help Y/n and her father, would you?” 

“Righty-O,” he chirped.  Pep in his stride as he followed your back and worked his way to your side.  “Miss Priss came looking for me.  I’m so flattered.”  You rolled your eyes. 

“Shut up.  I only need your youthful strength.  My desire to see you is zero.” 

“It’s at least a two.  Come’on.”  You scoffed a small ‘you wish’ and soon the two of you were shuffling the bookcase inside to the office.  “God, it’s hot in here!”  He whined as he waved his shirt for a small breeze. 

“A/C’s broken.” 

“You’re living in this heat?!” 

“Duh.  This is my home, Jungkook.” 

“No way.  Not on my watch, Missy.”  You barely registered the movement your body took.  Jungkook had thrown you over his shoulder, now packing you with him. He passed your dad, just to receive an expression that was just as confused as your own. “I’m taking Y/n for a while, Sir!”  And took he did.  Marching back into his sweet air-conditioned house.  

Moseying on up the stairs, shouting to his mom you were with him and carrying you straight into his room where he flipped on a fan and plopped you on his messy, blue and gray plaid bed.  He threw himself down in his computer chair, firing up a game and slapping on his headset. 

“So, you kidnap me, then play video games?  Why in the fresh hell am I here, Jeon?” He shushed you.  

“Just enjoy the coll air, Miss Priss.  And don’t call me by my last name, we’re friends.  First name law applies.”  You tutted, almost insulted he would basically snub you.  It was nice being here admittingly.  Jungkook wasn’t bad when he wasn’t being a snob.  You watched him play his game and talk- scream- at his friends over his headset. 

Soon, you moved to stand at his side and watch him for a better view.  He decided he’d up his game, maybe even try and impress you with his skills in first person shooters. 

Time passed and he eventually caught a small shiver rack through your body. The jump between temperatures must’ve finally caught up. You jumped when he swapped his controls to a gamepad controller from his keyboard and kicked his chair back.  Flopping himself onto his bed instead, he looked at you, still standing by his desk.  The computer screen showing a death he just took by instant replay. 

“It’s your so cold, why didn’t you say something,” he pulled his covers up, “come here,” he told you.  Oddly, you listened.  Now, you were burrowed in his blanket and leaned up against his shoulder.  You watched him spam buttons on his controller and noticed a piece of blue fuzz on his nail.  Bugging you more than him obviously. 

Grabbing his hand to steady him, you plucked the fuzz off.  However, when you let go of him to return the freedom to his hand, he stopped you.  Grabbing your hand, he tucked it between his palm and controlled handle.  

Once again, he died.  Yelling from his headset erupted.  He laughed at his friend’s rage. 

“Stop feeling up your girlfriend! Dammit, Jeon!” 

“Hey now,” he chided and looked at you.  “She’s not my girlfriend,” he smirked.  “Yet,” he added with a wink.

Favorite novel?

I think I'm gonna go with Emma! Not just because it's the most gay but I just think she's an interesting protagonist and there's quite a few angles of interpretation one might take. Not that there isn't for the other works but I like the whole She Gay And Daddy Issues thing... I also just thought that the side characters were so fun. The dad? Miss Bates my love??? Mrs Elton?! What a queen what a legend.

Favorite heroine?

I absolutely adore Elizabeth ofc and well Eleanor has Eldest Daughter Disorder which we love to see but Catherine moorland was just too sweet and relatable. I liked that she was a gnc kid tooooo. She was just too funny in a way that yeah... Been there.. did i go to school expecting it to be like hogwarts? Why yes.. and she really does embody that.

Favorite man?

I mean... Mx darcy is my url isn't it. I love him so much. Soft confused mean man... Also really liked Tilney he's just really genuinely funny, a close second i didn't think possible. But yeah no I'm sticking to my guns here. Darcy it is. Our rude king.

Favorite side character?

So many??? I would say Harriet but in my opinion she's much more the second main character of Emma than Mr. Knightley so... Uhh Miss Bates? Can't shut up.. relatable queen. I love myself so i love her.

Least favorite man?

As far as men the main characters end up with, I'm gonna have to say Edward Ferrars. Fuck this guy. No spine, no character, doesn't deserve Eleanor, the plot that his brother ended up with his fiancee didn't make any sense???? Like. Why.

Then with the question between wickham and willoughby that u raised I'm gonna have to say willoughby, because while wickham tried getting with two girls at least he married one (i mean not out of the goodness of his heart but still) and didn't manage to do any harm to the other as far as i know, while willoughby full on impregnated and then left a girl with literally nothing and fully broke the heart of the other in a really mean way, almost killing her and then blamed it on his wife who he spoke very badly of :/ like I'm sorry mate but it's fully understandable she wants u to give back the hair of another girl wtfff stop being so mean about her have some empathy or at least respect.

What I'm saying is. Sense and Sensibility just has The Worst Men.

Least favorite heroine?

Hmm I love them all so much? I'm gonna have to go with Fanny because i just can't emphasize with wanting to marry on your brother cousin.... also like.. jfc let them have some fun and play theatre. U really don't gotta be sir thomas stand in.

Mm Lady Susan? Not the books fault I just first had Spotify on shuffle by accident and then when i was able to turn the shuffle off it was just a lot less enjoyable after that... Also unmemorable. But i bet that's just the shuffle.

Favorite villain?

My bae Mrs Elton💕 you get to be a horrible annoying and vain person if you're this funny.

Least favorite side character?

Charlotte and her brother maybe? Like charlotte bae i support u get ur coin girl.. but don't just neglect ur friendship for flirting and also... That's such a betrayal. He was ur friend's brother... Don't flirt with ur friend's brother if u don't at least mean it. Her brother because he's a liar and rude as hell.

Favorite adaptation?

I put these questions all in one cause i haven't seen much and.. I'm gonna have to say pride and prejudice and zombies because i love some fun in my movies. Period clothing is all well and good but what really gets me will always be zombies and sword fights😩😩

I don’t know if anyone will see this. But let’s talk Austen, like properly. I will give my answers and hopefully someone or many someones will reply and a debate or talk can happen.

What is your favourite Austen novel?

Northhanger abbey. I read a lot and love gothic literature and I love this book because it is mocking gothic lit. It does it beautifuly. We are like Catherine she is imaginative, full of curiousness and life. She makes mistakes many of us make, with her mind full of scandals and murder, which fascinates many generations. Yet it is still beautiful with a gorgeous love story about loving someone for who they are. Catherine represents readers who get too emerged in the world of books.

I also have a massive love for persuasion. It is raw, about two people trying to find themselves back to each other. About trust. I cry everytime. Which makes it even more special is it is based on Jane Austen’s own love life.

Who is your favourite Austen heroine?

Emma. She is a realistic women. Well rounded full of flaws, she speaks her mind, hurts people as we all do. She was written to be disliked and yet she is likeable, I think because she reflects women well. We are all capable of cattiness, jealousy and ignorance. I love the way she ignores how much she loves knightly, she is determined never to marry so not to leave her father. But how jealous she got. For instance when Mrs Elton called him knightly, and Emma went on that massive rant about how she never calls him knightly but has known him her whole life. Notice after that scene she starts calling him knightly. Or the real upset she feels when she faces losing knightly and the horror over her best friend liking him. She is witty and remarkable.

Who is your favourite Austen man?

Mr Knightly, he is honest, not afraid to speak his mind, to tell Emma off, he loves her. knowing her fully, her flaws, her darkness, her joys, her virtues. Everything and he loves her. Wanting to make sure she is okay after Churchill. We all deserve a Mr. Knightly. Also one hell of a proposal. “If I loved you less I might be able to talk about it more.” When he talks about Emma you know he loves her. He doesn’t place her on a pedi stool, even when complimenting her, saying she isn’t vain, as she is very handsome but doesn’t occupy her self with it. But then critiques her in another manner. When he says badly done Emma that is just my whole sexuality in one line 😂.

Who is your favourite non main Austen character?

Mrs Bennett so much so I wrote my English course work on her, pride and prejudice from Mrs Bennett’s point of view. She is funny, an insight on how things really were and written by a women which is a more reliable as she is a women.

Who is your favourite Austen villain?

Mr Collins, he is utterly hilarious and is great. Honestly we should make a drinking game about how many times he saying lady Catherine.

Least favourite non main character?

Hmmm... okay so I am going to go with, sir Thomas Bertram. I think he is for lack of a better word a prick. Unable to accept his son until he almost loses him. But still blames him. Also you know the whole slavery thing and the whipping and torture of slaves.

Least favourite Austen man?

Hmm... possibly Edmund Bertram, but then again, I love how he loves franny despite how poor she is, he loves her mind.but he chose the rich lady over her, but she turned out to be a bitch so he went back to the ever kind and clever franny. But I don’t think he ever loved anyone but franny, he was just taken with vanity.

So hmm.. even Willoughby I have sympathy with, he loved Marianne but loved money more, but he had to live knowing he lost the one thing that could make him really happy. And that is really sad, knowing he is the cause of his own sadness.

My answer is Wickham. He was just fully a pedo. Like fully, he tried taking advantage of one fifteen year old girl and succeeded with another, he was corrupt and tried to hide that by slandering a good man (mr Darcy) he also manipulated lizzie’s feelings for him.

Least favourite Austen heroine?

Okay this one is hard. And honestly I don’t have one. I guess it is easier to criticise less likeable characters. If I had to chose then maybe marianne from sense and sensibility. She lets her romantic mind render her vulnerable to manipulation and only chooses the right man when the wrong one was taken away by his need for money and social standing. But I think that is because I have the same tendency to let bad men in and let the good ones pass me by, so I most likely just feel personally attacked by her 😂 so basically I just don’t like myself 😂

Least favourite Austen book?

I honestly don’t have one, I love them all, with all their flaws and perfections.

Favourite Austen tv show?

Again this going to have to be Emma, the one with Johnny Lee Miller who also plays my favourite Edmund in Mansfield park. It is stunning honestly and I have watched it about 20 times and I will never tire of it.

Favourite Austen movie?

Pride and prejudice 2005, yes I know the costumes were not accurate but this film is so visually stunning and the music. And Matthew MacFayden is an amazing mr Darcy and Keira knightly brings a brilliant cheek to Elizabeth which I love to see. It is one of my favourite movies of all time.

Favourite Austen adaptation?

Either Bridget Jones or clueless they are funny and brilliant.

As a cricket fan, have grown up watching the living legend n the so called "God of Cricket" Sir Sachin Tendulkar.

He is the only cricketer who is still so much loved by the fans ever after his retirement n still the name "sachin-sachin" is chanted many times during any Indian match of any format.

Here i m talking about the new Tendulkar in the game; Arjun Tendulkar.

Whether he plays any kind of match the footage of his part is uploaded soon on youtube by some people and they get views in millions on that video clip of Arjun Tendulkar playing. Bcz everybody is so curious to see him playing.

I am talking about his recent match of Mumbai t20 in which he played some good shorts n that video got 4.2 million views in just 16 hrs n was trending at no. 3.

My concerns is, when i was going through the comment section n i got the public views that all was centric to the surname "Tendulkar".

Everybody was talking that this is the power of Sachin or respect for Sachin that people r watching this video, some were talking negative that he is not like his father, some were talking like he is just an ordinary player n will not get a place in Indian side.

These all things reminded me about Abhishek Bachchan suddenly n then i thought to write this n share with you all. The thing struck my mind is, recently i went through one of the tweets of Abhishek Bachchan n i read that he replied to the trollers in a best way n showed them the mirror. I will put that tweet below.

So the thing is, if u r born in a family whose surname is so bigger than anything else n cannot be measured on any yardstick is not your problem. No body in this world is as similar as his father so how can we expect that whether it is AB Jr, Rohan Gavaskar, Puru Rajkumar n the recent one is Arjun Tendulkar will be like their respective fathers n bcz of such stupid comparison these people never get their own identities n looses yo deliver their best bcz of the huge expectation n pressure.

The way he was playing was clear that he was under tremendous pressure n was not playing his natural game. So in my view, it would be better to let him play his natural game with his name only.

Guys, be critical, but plz don't be so sharp in ur critic. Let them be known with their name only. Otherwise we will loose one more upcoming player like many other players n actors in the past. Don't push them with their heavy surnames.

Irrfan Khan, one of the finest actors of Hindi film industry, left for heavenly abode today. He was 53.

The ‘Hindi Medium’ actor was battling neuroendocrine tumor for two years. The news of his death came as a shock for the entire world.

Many celebrities like Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Radhika Madan among others took to Twitter to express their shock and condolences.

She called him ‘the brightest, most genuine, humble, kind and eventually bravest soul’ and also offered warm condolences to his wife and kids. Aishwarya wrote, “Heartbreaking news… so saddened to hear about the demise of my dear friend Irrfan… the brightest, most genuine, humble, kind and eventually bravest soul… May he Rest in Peace. God Bless Much love and strength to Sutapa, Babil, Ayan and his loved ones at this very difficult time.”

[SP] Rocket Power

Any man willing to shoot other humans into space with only the slim faith you can place in theoretical physics is a mad son of a bitch, which is precisely what Allen Carver was.

The declaration by JFK that the United States would be the first nation to reach the moon consumed the entire facility in Houston. Carver led NASA after he distinguished himself in the naval air force. His heroics in WWII, which saw him gun down twenty plus German planes, thrust him into folklore. The man with a temper as deadly as his aim. Back in those days, he was simply known as "The Carver" as he ruthlessly dropped enemy pilots out of the sky. Ironic that JFK tasked him with "carving" a path to the moon. But he was damned if he wasn't going to give it his all.

His voice was that of a man who had escaped the midwest and wouldn't be back until he rested in a pine box. It fit the energy of a kid who had fled from the rigors of a failing cattle ranch, told he'd never amount to more than a second-rate cowpoke.

Between the time that NASA had become operational in 1958 to JFK's declaration in 1961 that America would reach the moon before the decade was out, a rocket was already coming together under the supervision of Carver. He recruited as many displaced European scientists and Soviet defectors as he could. He figured the more bright minds, the quicker they could get boots on the moon.

Ground control in Houston didn't initially possess the ability to house its members. But following the numerous hours that Carver and his immediate staff spent shacked up in their offices, Carver figured he'd rather have the staff on the grounds than pretending they could have a semblance of normality. Nothing about this project was ordinary. They lost that life once they started shooting for the moon.

Out of a host of semi-capable young Americans, Carver picked Lawerence Murphy and Jonathan Hass as the two moon landing designated astronauts. He believed their ambition led them to outwork the other applicants. Lawerence was a young, brusque man out of Annapolis. Whereas Jonathan had been a stand out pilot in Korea- he didn't possess the same schooling as Murphy, but the California Kid showed off the charts aptitude results. One trained to excellence and one instinctively so. They would make history, Carver thought.

He didn't know the infamy it would spawn in small circles.

Allen designed the training to rein Jonathan in and push Lawerence out of his comfort zone.

"Lift your feet, Hass! You're going to trip over something if you keep dragging them across the floor," Carver yelled as Jonathan and Lawerence ran shuttle sprints.

"I'm lifting them! God damn, Carver. What are we even running? Isn't it all floating in space?" Jonathan griped as sweat soaked through his grey NASA shirt.

"Are you talking back again, Hass? It sounds like you and Murphy want another set of suicides!" Carver growled as he checked a dented pocket watch.

"Jesus, John. Why do you keep talking back? Just shut up for once." Lawerence huffed as they walked back to the baseline in the gym.

"Goody two-shoes," Hass muttered as he stared daggers at Carver.

They finished up the set and before Carver gave an overview of the mission plan once they left orbit.

"Here's how it's going to play out, boys. That booster rocket is going to push both of your fatasses past orbit. Once you're there, the auxiliary thrusters are going to power you towards the moon. Sit tight and steer straight. I don't need this mission to become an unexpected trip to Mars. Got it?"

"Got it, chief."

"Yeah, we got it." Murphy and Hass responded. The next few weeks featured pool sessions as Murphy and Hass got used to floating around in their spacesuits, and endless simulator runs to practice landing the ship.

Carver stomped around mission control, sorting out the monitors, and training mission operators. He acted like an elephant trying to pay off a grudge as he bulldozed the innocence of his smart but meek support staff.

If the fear he inspired could function as fuel, it would have powered the rocket to the sun. As it was, the staff continued to operate in secrecy as the fear of their covert launch would be leaked to KGB. Carver was firmly against that possibility.

"I refuse to lose to a culture that's known for shitty food, weird hats, and endless winter! That moon is Bald Eagle territory, you hear me!" He shouted after a tech mentioned a rumor that the Soviets were putting together a similar rocket.

On the day of the launch, Carver was on edge.

"My asshole is coiled tighter than a jar of snakes." He spat and looked over at his assistant. "What? That's not funny?"

"Uh..." the young man stuttered as he shrunk back from Carver.

"That's the problem with your generation, too timid."

The rocket sat on the tarmac in the distance. Its silver exterior gleamed with the hope of victory as Murphy and Hass strapped themselves into their seats.

"You ready for this?" Murphy asked, looking over at Hass.

"Ready to be a legend," Hass said sporting a cocksure smile. Murphy rolled his eyes and put his headset on. Carver's voice cut across the buzz.

"You boys ready to make some history?"

"Yes, sir!" Murphy and Hass said in unison.

"Good. Strap in and let her fly, you've got the go-ahead to take off." Carver said.

The two young men set about flipping their respective switches and levers before the rocket roared to life; flames shot out from the bottom as ground control looked on in fear and excitement.

With the rocket thrusters pushed to the max, and it slowly pulled free of the ground in a cloud of white and red.

Murphy and Hass were pinned to their seats as they experienced struggled under the G-force.

Once the rocket broke orbit, the momentum dropped. The boys oriented on the moon as ground control checked in to make sure they were safe. Both Murphy and Hass marveled at the millions of stars that stretched into a dark continuum. They angled their necks to peer at their cerulean blue planet, a rare silence found between the two of them. As they closed in on the moon, Carver's voice crackled back over the radio.

"Take it nice and easy, boys. We want to be first, but we also don't want to crater the moon." He said as Murphy and Hass tried tuning him out.

Hass handled the landing once the rocket near the moon's surface. A tight grin stretched his face as he managed to set the rocket down without incident. He traded a looked with Murphy as they finished up the landing protocol and unbuckled.

"I'm going first out those doors," Murphy said.

"The hell you are!" Hass said, trying to throw his spacesuit on quickly.

"You landed the damn ship! It's only fair that I get to be the first one on the ground." Murphy responded as he grabbed his helmet and began to attach his oxygen hose.

"That doesn't mean you get to be the first man on the moon!" Hass said, rushing over to the door.

"Out of my way!" Murphy pushed him to the side as Hass struggled to adjust his helmet. He began to crank open the door as the crackle of the radio blared in the background. The door opened, and the silence of space took hold.

Murphy began descending the rocket's ladder as Hass rushed after him. The ship's cameras caught their movements as Carver tried to figure out what the hell was going on up there. He spotted the oxygen tubes wrapped around Hass' leg as he received a sharp insight into how his dream was about to die a miserable death. The worst part was all he could do was watch.

The oxygen tubes yanked Hass' leg back and pitched him downwards, he let out a yell, causing Murphy to look up at a face-first Hass flying towards him. Their glass faceplates slammed against each other, and cracks immediately spread across them. The quick hiss of oxygen escaped both of their helmets as Carver, and the rest of ground control watched on in horror.

Hass and Murphy gasped at each other and grabbed for the ladder, but Hass' momentum had pushed them downwards into the surface. Far from the safety of the airtight cabin. Twin hisses punctured the silence of space as the features of both Hass and Murphy were quickly covered in frost.

"Have you ever seen hundreds of millions of dollars escape through a helmet?" Carver shouted at his staff. "Because that's how much the oxygen in their suits was worth to us!" Carver clawed at his face in anger.

"Now! We can't let anyone find out about this. Otherwise, we'll lose the space race by default. FUCK!" Mission control stared at Carver as he struggled to pull himself together.

"Guess we'll have to get up there for the first time- one more time." he sighed as he walked back to his office. He sat down at his desk, pouring a tall glass of bourbon. He grabbed the list of potential applicants and began to flick through the pages as he looked for the team that would have to pull Murphy and Hass off the moon.

Steven Gerrard’s magic Rangers Euro touch and the Scottish greats they resemble

Richard Gough has saluted Steven Gerrard for restoring Rangers’ pride and respectability in Europe, as well as making them a big noise Stateside again.

And the nine-in-a-row legend reckons his former club’s exploits in the Europa League under Gerrard remind him of Jim McLean’s swashbuckling Dundee United side of the 1980s.

Gough was part of the United team that reached the European Cup semi-final in 1984 then left for Spurs before the Tangerines blazed a trail to the UEFA Cup Final in 1987.

While Gerrard can’t boast of getting that far in continental competition, his record of just two defeats in 23 Euro ties is mightily impressive.

Next up is a Europa League outing against Young Boys of Bern in Switzerland tomorrow and Gough believes Rangers, just like McLean’s Terrors, have been set up to be lethal on the counter attack away from home.

The 57-year-old said: “Every away game in Europe is an adventure. European football is hard because it’s a step up but Rangers have a fantastic record in Europe under Steven.

“Granted it’s not the top level and it’s not the top teams that we faced back in the day like Juventus and Ajax but their record has been very good.

“European football suits the way Rangers play. It reminds me of when I was at United under Jim McLean as a kid and we used to hit teams on the break. We had a good back four and midfield.

“We were very defensive but we had the likes of Paul Sturrock, Eamonn Bannon, Ralph Milne and Davie Dodds and were very good on the break. We would soak up the pressure and hit teams on the counter-attack.

“I’m so happy Rangers are back in Europe because I used to get asked in America all the time, ‘Hey man, what’s happened to Rangers?’ It was because we were always in Europe. Gough is adamant a huge part of Rangers’ progress has been the outstanding form of Allan McGregor. And he compared Greegsy to former England No.1 Ray Clemence, whom Gough shared a dressing room with during his 12-month stint at White Hart Lane.

He also reckons Alfredo Morelos has finally banished his disciplinary problems and is now fully focused on his football.

So much so he impressed visiting LA Galaxy director Jovan Kirovski who watched from the Ibrox stands as the Colombian destroyed Aberdeen in a 5-0 rout last weekend. Gough said: “I look at Allan McGregor and he’s a huge influence with his experience. What you don’t always see on TV is him shouting and screaming at the team.

“He reminds me of Ray Clemence who taught me a lot in my younger days. McGregor is of that ilk. The senior players are so important in every club. They run the place.

“I’ve been impressed with Morelos. He seems to have calmed down a bit. He played very well on Saturday. I sat next to my friend, Jovan Kirovski, who has come over to see a lot of things.

“He was asking me about Morelos and I just told him he’s a pure goalscorer. He said to me, ‘Yeah but he looks a touch heavy, Richard’ but I told him to watch and he would score. Right enough a minute later he did.

“Alfredo has quietened down and realised the ability he’s got. He seems a bit more comfortable within himself.

“Jovan is Steven’s friend but the MLS has a lot of money and he’s just looking at a lot of things. He’s off to Germany next. Three years ago no one was looking at any of the Rangers players but now they are, which is good.”

Gough reckons the next target for Gerrard is domestic domination – and he texted the Rangers boss after the 2-0 defeat to Celtic last month to offer words of encouragement and advice.

You can maybe say that he is young and it was an investment for the future but he has to prove it. I don’t think Pogba, 24, is a leader. I have been looking for more, particularly in the moments when the team is not working well. When a game runs out of your hands is when you look for someone like Pogba to hold the team together and give them rhythm, but I feel he only plays for himself. But Zlatan’s injury has been good for Marcus Rashford because I’m not sure he would have played if Ibrahimovic had been fit. I’ve followed Rashford for the last 18 months, watching him emerge for United and England, scoring the important goals and I have been impressed every time I see him. He has a great future for United and England. MY VERDICT AJAX have nothing to lose and it should be an open game. They can play as they want, without being afraid. While United have reached the final — and that is an achievement — they did not show the calmness I expected against either Anderlecht or Celta Vigo, who both caused them real problems. But I always feel experience is so valuable in a final and United have far more of that. Mourinho will know how to close the game down, as well, if they get in front.
