And we're back with another snippet from my Hinny adopts Tom WIP! Tom is a second-year and a Gryffindor, and Harry is the DADA professor. 😌💕

Tom abhors her. He thinks Harry hates her, too, but that he doesn't want to admit it. They married young, and whereas Harry went to work for the Ministry for some time as an Auror, Ginevra joined the Holyhead Harpies. Even years later, when they came to adopt Tom, they rarely saw one another. Ginevra had moved onto coaching the Harpies. Tom didn't mind. By that point, Harry had retired from the Auror Department to homeschool Tom. He dedicated his life to Tom, to the child he had always wanted. And though Tom did not know it at the time, Harry is the father he has always wanted, the… Well, he's not certain of what the words for it are, but lately when he looks at Harry… In any event, they have the holiday to themselves again this year, and it means that Tom can curl up in his father's lap in his chambers. "Aren't you getting a bit old for this?" Harry asks him, his chin resting comfortably atop Tom's head. "No," Tom says. If anything, he fits better on Harry's lap than he ever has before. He is the perfect size for Harry to squeeze him close and nuzzle his cheek against Tom's curls. "I love you very much," Harry whispers. Tom feels warm all over. Of course, his Harry loves him. That doesn't make it any less satisfying to hear.

He gets Tom settled in bed, the crimson duvet pulled up to his chin, and walks to Tom's bookshelf. "What do you want me to read?" "Alchemical Imperfections," Tom replies. It's one of the more formidable tomes that Harry gifted Tom this past Christmas, but Tom likes the challenge, which is no doubt why Harry purchased it. The pillows cushioning his head are comfortable, more so than anything the castle has ever provided. They smell like both Harry and himself, as does the duvet. Their scent permeates this room. Sweet perfection—such is the case with everything to do with them. His father climbs onto the bed with the book. A low whistle escapes him as he thumbs through the pages. "I forgot how difficult this was." "Yes. Now read chapter one to me and pet my hair while you do so." Tom drifts off to his father's voice, the man's large fingers sifting through his hair, over and over, slowly but surely sending him to the land of slumber.
