After watching the Good Omens season 2 finale last year and having my heart broken in the process, i started to write a song about Crowley from Aziraphales perspective. It took me a year to finish it, but two weeks ago i finally made it. hope you like it!

it's immensely funny to me how andrew lloyd webber read this passage from the book and was like yeah the journey down to the phantom's lair is this really breathtaking magical gondola ride where christine is just captivated by the strange and fantastical beauty of it all (see below)

honestly as much as i dont like angel for a whole laundry list of reasons, i do actually find his character hella amusing sometimes. like the guy's a sopping wet paper bag with absolutely zero self-control or basic sense, even after two hundred years of living. he couldn't even kiss a sixteen-year-old girl for a few seconds without vamping out and throwing himself out the window like a common criminal. every other second of the show he's going 'but we can't!' and then he will immediately do the thing he just said he couldn't do. most of his screentime is taken up by him standing in one place looking awkward as hell - and somehow he is even standing badly. he tries so desperately hard to pull the whole romeo and juliet thing with his only two prevailing expressions because it's his only way to hook a superpowered teenager into being his 'redemption'. like alskjfdlksd. is he okay in the head. this man should not be around children. he is the most pathetic boyfailure of all time, and not even in an attractive way. but ragging on him is fun as hell it has to be said. so he's not the worst i suppose.

Obviously, Masquerade is far from just a human being. He has a lot of extremely strange features that you will not immediately notice, but once you notice them, you will no longer be able to ignore it.

Uncanny valley.

His shadow… strange. It doesn't seem to depend on the direction of the light, the shadow is always behind him. Its outline is clear, and its size perfectly matches the body. Sometimes, when Masquerade raises his hand or turns his head, the shape of his shadow does not change at all. His skin… strange. Very smooth, clean. Each area of the skin is exactly the same color and shade, and the tan does not seem to exist at all. There are no scratches or scars on the skin, not even birthmarks. To the touch, the skin turns out to be hard, similar to marble. His temperature… strange. He's obviously too cold to be alive. Touching him, even his clothes or hair, is unpleasant. It seems to burn you, but not with heat, but with cold. He's not cold as a corpse. He's as cold as the void. But you will never see steam next to him, the water he touches does not freeze. Physics itself doesn't seem to notice him. But you notice. His voice… strange. You can't help but admit that you like that voice. This voice is unlike any you've heard before - too graceful, too melodious. There is nothing great or majestic about it, it just fascinates you. You're listening to that voice… It distracts you from your own thoughts… You seem to have already fallen into the web.

His most disturbing feature is his mask. The blue glass with a black frame looks ridiculous. Such a strange shape. Why is he wearing that mask at all? And then you look at it. The blue glass is not transparent at all. You can't see his eyes, you can't see where he's looking. But with every part of your body, you feel that he is looking at you, right into your mind. Even when he turns his back to you, you can feel his gaze. And he knows that you feel it. To be honest, it's quite funny for him. Fear is a form of respect, and he knows he deserves respect.

But never tell Dan about it. He still doesn't seem to have noticed. Especially, don't mention "completely non-transparent glass". Dan won't understand you. He can see perfectly through the mask. But he won't tell you what he sees there. It's THEIR personal thing.

It’s batshit that I’m old enough to get these sorts of questions nowadays LMFAO, but thank you for trusting me with these weird feelings 💖💖

The reality of aging is one of those things that hits everyone at very different times, and I think it depends on what you base your identity around.

For example, my 20th birthday ((while very fun, I was living in Tokyo at the time)) didn’t give me your “oh my god I’m not a teenager anymore” crisis. However, I distinctly remember my 24th birthday making me go “wait what the FUCK am I doing here???????”. But as I sat with that panic, I realized it was because I always pictured my nearest sister being 24 — so there was no way eye could be that old, right? She has to be older than me, so there’s no way I could be 24!!!!!

All that to say: it’s normal if 20 feels big and weird and uncomfortable for you, even if other people don’t get it. Everyone has their “weird age”.

Maybe there’s a comfort in the unseriousness and immaturity granted to teenagers that you really cling to, or maybe it’s an era filled with love and fond memories that you feel like you have to give up once you’re in a new decade.

But in the same way that you’ve felt so connected to your teenagehood, there are endless new identities waiting for you in the future. And they can be scary — what if you don’t want a new identity? What if you like where you are right now? — but they’re almost always worth it in the end.

Like, I was scared when I turned 24 because I felt like I was no longer… connected to all the things in my past. I was well out of high school, I was well out of college; all the “young people” I saw out and about probably looked at me and saw a “real adult”. Did they expect me to look a certain way? Talk a certain way? Have a certain amount of money saved and certain career goals hit?

No. None of that was true in retrospect. I learned that part of aging into my new phase in life was getting to be a Cool Adult that can do what I want, support the people in my life wholeheartedly, and define all of those things by my own terms.

Idk, sometimes it’s nice to look at birthdays as a change to let yourself grow as opposed to watching a part of yourself die, you know?

Anyways I’m rambling. The bottom line is that everyone’s relationship with aging is unique. And it’s ok that it’s scary, life is scary! But you have to remind yourself that most of the world carried on after turning whatever age freaks you out, and most of those people found ways to still be themselves.
