Sooo whenever you check the playlist you're gonna notice I added a Lot of Fall Out Boy to it. One song for each of their albums (... And a couple off a few EPs we loved as a teen). We're,, Kind of on a FOB kick right now, lol. Anywayyyy
You don't have to give us your opinions on all of those songs, but two specifically stand out to us that we wanna hear your thoughts on: You're Crashing, But You're No Wave, and Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year.
You're Crashing is our favourite off IOH and Sophomore Slump is our favourite off Corktree! Both are very important to us in their own ways—The chorus of You're Crashing is just... Wonderful. Very powerful sounding. The whole song has a powerful evocative energy to it but the chorus always gets us tbh. And Sophmore Slump is one of those songs that helped get us through highschool; the post-chorus and bridge mean the world to us. We misheard the final lyric in the post-chorus for a LONG while as "And I need to take a pill to make the sounds feel okay" which really aligned with how we experience synesthesia... We still prefer that lyric over the actual lyric, lmao.
So, yeah! Let us know what you think when you have the time, we lov you <22 <33
-Cygnus
HI CYGNUS!! i did see the Fall Out Boy additions!! i really love the sparse fob songs i know, but i don't actually go out of my way to explore their discography more closely, so it's delightful to listen to other ones, especially ones that are important to y'all!! :3
You're Crashing, But You're No Wave - REALLY LOVE THE GUITAR IN THIS!!! (<- always as expected for FOB hgkjg) i love how solemn but strong it is, how so many of the lyrics are sung :0 "THE VERDICT FALLS LIKE BACH-E-LORS FOR BAD LUCK GIRLS!" is sung so quick, and oooh the fuckin chorus :'0 baby boy can't lift his headache head~ :'] the choir rising on "Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty~" this is a real funeral of a trial, a damnation. goddamn, really good!! :D
Sophomore Slump Or Comeback of the Year - something about this song sounds really classic boyband, im really fond of the vibe hfkjg YEAH, sometimes you mishear the lyric but its more meaningful anyway, so now that lyric is yours. they said "i hope you sing along and steal a line" and guess what, y'all did it, that's your line now!! /silly :3 hdgkjg im glad it helped y'all through high school, with the vibes of like, "are we growing up or just going down" i think that'd be relatable to high school me too hgkj <33 <22

Friendly reminder that when Romes in ruins, we are the lions free of the Colosseum and, secondly in poison places we are anti-venom and, heck we are the beginning of the end. To a affront to coursing, tonight the foxes hunt the hounds and it’s all over now.

no ok like. i know this is The YBC Blog and all but i really truly need to go off about how GENUINELY fucking fascinating the whole "young volcanoes" video is on a metatextual level. like the entirety of the youngblood chronicles says a WHOLE hell of a lot about the band in terms of the metaphors it's painting wrt the hiatus and reformation and the fact that they took this particular song (sonically incredibly airy and cheerful, lyrically desolate) and turned it into the dinner party from hell. this is a story where an external force chops up the lead singer and hollows him out and then serves his organs to the rest of the band. theyre made to consume him, literally, against their will!!! and thats not all!! they are vividly hallucinating at this point, because theyve been heavily drugged - again, against their will! - and they see this whole thing as a joyous affair. in their blitzed out brains, this is them reuniting after the harrowing experience of being kidnapped off the goddamn streets! and then they have this fucked up trippy GROUP HALLUCINATION where they are literally EATING PATRICKS ORGANS. and in the real world, none of them can see this happening - except patrick. patrick is not blindfolded. patrick can see them being forcefed his own viscera and he's too fucking high off his ass to do anything about it. in fact, in reality, he barely acknowledges his bandmates at all.
like just thinking about this from a metaphorical perspective. its fucking fascinating innit. the band literally cannibalizes patrick against their will, and he cannibalizes himself against his will, and they are all made to believe this is something that they want to have happen. they are misled and drugged into this. they eat him alive. they eat him ALIVE. and they are made to think they're having a great time doing it.
the band consumes itself for the seeming entertainment of the onlooking vixens. and they don't explore this through the avenue of pete, who the rest of the band regularly cites as the creative impetus behind the band, but through patrick, the voice. the mouthpiece. the one who sings the words. this is the third fucking video they released when the band came back from hiatus. and its this. it is the band being forced to consume the lead singer and primary composer from the inside, and him participating in this forced consumption.
it makes me grip my head and scream. we witness this horrifying incident so early and things only get worse and worse from there. for all that patrick kills joe and pete later in the narrative, they have patrick's blood on their lips first, staining their mouths, slicking their insides. and, like the case with patrick, who has been warped into something violent, they don't do this willingly; it is done to them. we see what true and genuine hatred of music and creativity has motivated the vixens to do. and in contrast we see, by the story's end, the thesis statement that the defenders of the faith love each other beyond any earthly horror that can be inflicted upon them. how unbelievably unfathomably fucking captivating for this to be present at the very start, this warped perversion of that kind of love. what else is friendship and brotherhood but this. what else is love at its most destructive and possessive than this. we are friends, we are brothers in arms, we are companions until the bitterest of all bitter ends. we have wrought immeasurable horrors upon each other. we have consumed each other. we have eaten each other alive. we all have each other's blood on our hands and in our mouths. if save rock and roll is the brightest and most elevated declaration of love imaginable, then young volcanoes is the darkest and most twisted. we don't want to be here. we're having the time of our lives. we're trapped. we're screaming. we missed you. we are better together. we are destroying each other. we love you. we love you to the most twisted and horrific and absolute endpoint imaginable. we love you. they won't let us stop loving you. we love you. they won't let us stop. we love you.

If you're looking for ideas about karaoke, I know a pretty good duet! It goes a little something like, "I've got a... DEAL WITH DESTINY-" ok I'll stop. Genuinely, though, for a duet I would go with Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men or Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy. I also have Song of the Witches by SJ Tucker up my sleeve, but I do not think you two would know it. *mutters: plus it's technically a three-person song* (Check it out though, it's based on my favorite book!)
-Bel
Scott: Oh! Martyn, you are like fish coded right?
Martyn: Kinda, more pirate...why?
Scott: This next song will be perfect then, It's called Deal with Destiny and I wrote it...with Lizzie.
Martyn: Who's Lizzie- you know what? I don't care.
.
.
.
Martyn: Oh, I start this time. 🎵Feast your eyes as I share my glorious wares. They are precious antiques, they're exquisitely rare. A magical inksac, some ancient bamboo, a dish of deliciously devilish stew. Make up your mind what fabulous find will it be?🎵
Scott: Doing good Martyn!
Martyn: 🎶I've got a fishing rod, an enchanted book, an iron ingot and a tripwire hook. A hand-crafted stick and a powerful bow, a dinosaur bone and a tasty potato. Maje up your mind what fabulous find will it be?🎶
Scott: And here it comes.
Martyn: 🎵I've got a deal with destiny, a bargain with fate, this buisness is bound to profit me as long as this fool takes the bait.🎶 Your turn Scott.
Scott: 🎶I mean thats all very nice, It's all very well. But I've go those things at Rivendell. I'm hoping for something a little bit new, those boots over there look like they could do. I've made up my mind, that fabulous find is for me!🎵
Martyn: Do you have to be so extra Scott?
Scott: What of course I do! And you missed your lines! 🎶I actually meant the shinier pair, would they be something you're willing to spare? You know I like diamonds, you know I love gold. And teal just suits me or so I've been told. I've made up my mind, that fabulous find is for me!🎶
Martyn: ...yeah, whatever.
Scott: 🎵I've got a deal with destiny, a bargain with fate, this buisness is bound to profit me as long at that fool takes the bait.🎵 Your turn.
Martyn: Huh? Oh right...🎶That sound fair, but what about me? I'm a generous soul but I don't give for free. Rivendell has such a lot in it's coffers, surely theres something of worth you can offer...🎵
Scott: 🎵Of course, I've got: The oldest wood from the tallest pine, the toughest stone from the deepest mine, the purest snow from the highest peak, the softest wool from the fluffiest sheep! ...make up your mind, what fabulous find will it be~?🎶
Martyn: How did you do that with your voice?
Scott: Training, did you like it? ...well guess we aren't doing the whole Lizzie and me bantering are we?
Martyn: Not doing that, let's just start singing when It's our turn again.
Scott: Fine...here we go. 🎵So do we have a deal?🎵
Martyn: 🎶Deal🎶
Scott/Martyn: 🎶I've got a deal (I've got a deal) with destiny (with destiny) a bargain with fate, this buisness is bound (and It's bound) to profit me (to profit me) now that this fool's made a deal (I've got a deal) with destiny (with destiny) a bargain with fate, this buisness is bound (and It's bound) to profit me. Now that this fool took the bait!🎶
Scott: That's done-
Martyn: It's not.
Scott: What?
Martyn: Theres another part here in the lyrics.
Scott: Wait...Really??
Martyn: Yeah...and It's mine to sing.
Scott: Huh. Go ahead?
Martyn: 🎶I've got to...deal with destiny, I've bargained with fate... this buisness is bound to the prophecy... Am I the fool? Have I just made a mistake?🎵
Scott: ...I...uh.

Do u have any twin skeletons thoughts/analyses?
SO MUCH. BUCKLE UP.
I looooove this song and I think it is the most raw and brutal song about the disintegration of the Pete/Patrick relationship in the entire discography, I really do.
Patrick jumbles his use of lyrics up time-wise, he plucks them from all over their chronology, but I don't think he would write this song today, and I don't think he would write the lyrics up in this song today. Like, the lyrics are brutal, but the song they're in are worst, the way he arranges them, the way he sings them.
BUT THEN HE ENDS IT IN HOPE. THIS SONG.
I feel like there is this vague trajectory to the lyrics that Pete writes and the way that Patrick arranges and sings them. When they're both young kids, the lyrics are more straightforwardly melodramatic and self-pitying, the way kids are, and Patrick sings them that way. Which isn't to say they're not still complex, but yeah. As they move toward the hiatus, I feel like the lyrics actually get less bitter and more longing but Patrick starts arranging them and singing them more viciously, so that lyrics that could have been love songs become angry songs instead. Post-hiatus, Pete's lyrics take a distinctive pining turn that he's never entirely left, although they're not always about relationships (they never were, really, which is what I love about him) but about the passage of time and the way everything is yearning ambivalence for things you can't even define as you get older. Patrick in the beginning of the hiatus still arranged these lyrics in songs that felt defiant but by now the lyrics get put into love songs and lose some of the irony in the way Patrick sings them.
That's kind of a tangent.
Anyway, I don't actually think they dealt, lyrically or musically, with a lot of the emotions of the hiatus until AB/AP. I think they wrote SRAR almost carefully. Some of the songs in it feel almost like Patrick designed them to try to be at a remove, they feel kind of impersonal, aiming for the kind of heterosexual drama that FOB rarely hits in their songs because Pete rarely writes lyrics like that. But I think about a song like The Mighty Fall or Death Valley or Just One Yesterday or Young Volcanoes -- and there is A LOT to all of those songs, too, of course, and I love them -- but they're easy to read as just, you know, typical radio play stuff. (The notable -- REALLY notable -- SRAR exception is Miss Missing You, of course, and maybe that was as much as anyone could deal with at the time lol.)
But AB/AP, to me, is FULL of working through the hiatus baggage. There's "The Kids Aren't Alright" and there's "Fourth of July" and there's "Favorite Record" and THEN THERE'S THIS SONG. To me, this song is all about a relationship -- a partnership -- that's supposed to be perfect breaking completely to pieces right in front of you, and the way it devolves into recriminations and accusations.
The chorus, revolving around this titular room where everything went down. I read “shares our fate and deserves our pity” to imply that this room has been somehow ruined, too (sharing our fate) and that’s such a huge pity, like, this isn’t how it should have happened. There’s deep regret in this chorus: I don’t want to remember it, and what they don’t want to remember is the things the promised. The promises you make to the people you love and when it all goes to hell and you end up not keeping those promises, you don’t want to think about them.
EVERYTHING about the description of the relationship in this is some of Pete’s most vivid lyrics. This is one of those songs where every single line is absolutely crystalline. When Taylor Swift said once that she wanted “Blank Space” to be like a Fall Out Boy song where every line is a zinger, this is the song I think of, because the way this relationship is described, the way it unfurls through the song, every single line carries an entire story within it, it’s all so vivid. And the thing is, this could be read to be about sex—dull the pain, strip down to skeleton, saint swimming our sins—sure, it’s all sexy, but I don’t think any of it is actually about sex. Stripped down to our skeletons, that’s not how you have sex, that is way more revealing, way more vulnerability being shown than just taking off your clothes. It has to be read in the context of the image on their Greatest Hits compilation, those twin skeletons, dedicated to each other even in death, like, it’s just not about sex. Sure, sex can be read as sinful, but there’s a multitude of sins out there in the world for them to be swimming in. And the line that really smacks me over the head: “’til we’re twins again.” You…don’t have sex with your twin. I mean, unless we’re getting into some really weird narcissistic thing going on in this song. The twin thing is so…Patrick-coded hahaha. Because who is Patrick? The person he has twin-speak with. This whole thing is in the vein of Pete’s pining language to be honest: I MISS YOU SO MUCH. I JUST NEED A LITTLE DOSE OF YOU. I MISS HOW WE USED TO BE. I MISS WHEN WE WERE SO OURSELVES WITH EACH OTHER THAT WE WERE BASICALLY SKELETONS, THERE WAS NOTHING TO HIDE BEHIND.
But the way Patrick sings these words, the melody he gives them: It doesn’t sound pining. It sounds biting and cruel. If he sang this song in one of his piano arrangements, I bet these words would kill you with how much longing is in them. But that’s not how he sings them.
And then we get to that jet black crow, droning on and on and on, up above their heads, droning on and on and on. The way that droning line repeats, the way Patrick sings the on and on and on so that it sounds like a drone, it’s cleverly done, and the jet black crow always feels like this bad omen to me, this thing hanging over them, that they can’t escape. I MISS YOU SO MUCH, PLEASE STAY HERE WITH ME, but there’s that droning of foreboding hanging over their heads. You’ve got to keep making trouble until you find what you love, he’s not done yet, he wants to keep going, he needs a partner in crime AND YOU SHRUG. I never can decide which of them is speaking there, who looked to the other for their partner and didn’t find him there, and maybe it was both of them, because they were mutual destruction, maybe that’s the point.
Then we get to the second verse, one era dying and the next being born, showing up just to fade away, calling an end to the whole thing – and hating it the whole time (“I wanna throw my hands in the air and scream”). “I can just die laughing on your spiral of shame”: the way Patrick sings that. That is another line that I’m not sure who it’s meant to be referencing, and it could just be both of them. Honestly, the cruel things you do to the people you love when there’s a jet black crow droning on and on over your heads. But you get through the wreck and you pull yourself together enough to survive, even though you’re barely holding yourself together with a string.
But. BUT. THIS BRUTAL, BRUTAL SONG that Patrick takes Pete’s lyrics and puts together here. The way he has the pining of the first verse devolve into the vicious backlash of the second verse in the wake of the indifferent and painful shrug is so good and then the narrative retreats into: Hold on. Hold on, hold on, hold on. At the end of the song he repeats “hold on” EIGHTEEN TIMES. That’s how much he wants Pete to “hold on.” This song about the complete disintegration of this relationship ends with Patrick begging, over and over again: Hold on. Hold on. It’ll be okay. Hold on. That jet black crow drones on and on and on twelve times. Patrick asks us to hold on many more times. And he never sends droning as he does it. He packs multiple notes into the ons. The jet black crow is gone by the end of the song. I made promises. Just hold on.

*Tag You’re It (Melanie Martinez) - This one gave me goosebumps when I connected it not only to what she faces with Chucky and Tiff messing her life up, but Chucky LITERALLY uses Nica to taunt Andy saying “Tag You’re It, Pal!” CHILLS. It works SO well I think!
*Training Wheels (Melanie Martinez) - Reminds me so much of the inner turmoil she’d face when falling for our very own Andy Barclay (they’re perfect for each other!)
*Milk and Cookies (Melanie Martinez) - The rest of the MM songs I put in because they fit so well within the context of the show/I feel like they relate to Nica very well!
*Teddy Bear (Melanie Martinez)
*Dollhouse (Melanie Martinez)
*Soap (Melanie Martinez)
*Lie In Our Graves (Dave Matthews) - I think when Nica is trying to relax/is smoking she may listen to music like this to help turn her brain off! Dave Matthews/ Glass Animals is perfect for that and I think she’d appreciate the vibe occasionally.
*Crush (Dave Matthews)
*Youth (Glass Animals)
*Ants Marching (Dave Matthews)
*Life Itself (Glass Animals)
*Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac) - For some reason I feel like Nica listened to a lot of Fleetwood Mac with her mother growing up, and she still has a fondness for it when she feels nostalgic
*Dreams (Fleetwood Mac)
*Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac)
*Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow (Fleetwood Mac)
*I Write Sins (Not Tragedies) (Panic at the Disco) - Growing up with her family, I think she had a little emo phase and listened to quite a bit of Panic/Fall out Boy/Paramore/Greenday. I love imagining a young Nica getting her angst out to these songs
*The Phoenix (Fall Out Boy)
*Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)
*Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)
*Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day)
*Memories (Panic at the Disco)
*Ain’t It Fun (Paramore)
*Still Into You (Paramore)
*Ready To Go Get Me Outta My Mind (Panic at the Disco)
*Still Breathing (Green Day)
*This Ain’t A Scene (Fall Out Boy)
*A Little Less Sixteen Candles (FOB)
*Just One Yesterday (FOB)
*Young Volcanoes (FOB)
*Sugar Were Going Down (FOB)
*Holiday (Green Day)
*When I Come Around (Green Day)
*Semi-Charmed Life (Third Eye Blind) - One of the songs Nica grew up with that she still enjoys to this day (like the next few)
*Everything You Want (Vertical Horizon)
*Breakfast At Tiffany’s (Deep Blue Something) - Despite the name Tiffany being a sore subject, Nica likes this song
*Valerie (Amy Winehouse)
*Rehab (Amy Winehouse)
*Don’t Let Me Get Me (Pink) - Fits when Nica would’ve been young and I think she still loves listening to this song when she feels a bit angsty
*You and I (Lady Gaga)
*Bloody Mary (Lady Gaga)
*ScheiBe (Lady Gaga)
*Wicked World (Matt Jaffe)
*Still Alive (Demi Lovato) - I mean obviously, this is a Final Girl anthem and she’s the best Final Girl there is!!
*Too Sweet (Hozier) - Fits her so well! I know our girl enjoys her whiskey neat ;)

Hi... Im no legitimate poet or anything...Was listening to these deft.ones songs and started writing something about kiawren on the bus home
This is so self indulgent I'm sorry.. idk if you can understand my abstract writing and it's okay if you don't 😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For anyone that bothers... I'll try to explain the poem but you can interpret it how you'd like :))
These are some of the lyrics inspiring it (romantic dreams, diamond eyes, sextape)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The title—I was thinking that the only constant of his between real life and my self insert world is his name, I can say it here just the same as I can there, everything else about him otherwise isn't real.. Hence the two realms, and the inspiration from the lyric "I'm hypnotized by your name" (more to add to this towards the end of the poem!)
The Vermillion bird (basically a phoenix) is from Chinese myth, I think it represents both of us becuz fire and bird.
'Take me one more time/Take me one last wave/Take me one last ride' is from Sextape, I heard it as I started typing the poem, so I just added it in hehhee .... for 'wave', I often think about us sitting in Wela volcano park overlooking the ocean together. It's vast and beautiful. For 'ride', I also like to imagine us going for rides on char.izard together.
'rilles' are from volcanic flows on the moon, with i learnt when Googling while writing this. Actually I thought they were for normal volcanoes too, before I googled again when typing this, well they're only on the moon, lol that gives another meaning (kiawren sun/moon dynamic loll). The rilles here are in my veins cuz he just has that impact on me☺️
There's stuff like 'burning a visage on skin', 'place my tongue where you blaze' 'bleed the sea whole' cuz that's what people would typically do for their lovers you know. (/sarcasm) I just mean I would go to such lengths for him.
Synonyms of red—cherry, ruby, cardinal, in a way those lines are getting more intense.. The plush of youth (our young love and its dreaminess) and the clush of rubies, then cardinal in my head also alludes biblically like 'cardinal sin' that's why I wrote 'cardinal hell', the red becomes so red! And yes more on the hell later.
Clush is also a song by Isles & Glaciers that makes me think of kiawren so I added that word :)
'rose-cauterized eyes' — I like the phrase 'rose-tinted eyes', took a different way here with the cauterization, something more graphic like those other stuff I had up there, I feel like if you'd cauterize eyes you'd see through foggy, patched-over, maybe painful vision. But if you cauterize with roses... There's also layer of romanticism.
'meteors-heavy stubborn blue sky'... When I listen to 'diamonds reign across the sky' in the song diamond eyes I think is us watching miniors together (a poke.mon that's basically a meteor). Hmm, it's hard to explain it, but the red-rose overworld downturning into stubborn blue sky kinda has the feeling of the worlds and skies turning and colliding, and the red/blue kiawren you know... like a merger, something dynamic and disorienting... Anyway it kinda leads into the last part too!!!
'My heart' —yes it's both my literal heart going up in flames when I love him and also him, becuz this is also my term of endearment for him. And he burns in his passion. He burns brighter than I ever can.
Ok last part that Im excited to type out
While a mythical being all proud and overbearing yet unhelpful in the alluded Nirvana, and 'romantic' people look up to this fictional mythical heaven-ruler (they're idealistic hence the word romantic, also that this 'romance' is more insincere),,,,,,
I have independently travelled inside the Earth to unite with my Kiawe!!!!! Orpheus and Eurydice!!!!!!!! I am Orpheus for real.....i'd cave so hard.
Last two lines are interesting becuz I 'see my baby', but Orpheus doesn't get to see Eurydice..... Meanwhile don't 'turn back to a blue sky', I reject the reality of a blue sky, like how the red overworld downturns into it earlier, for the fantasy of a red realm with my loveeee... Instead of not being able to turn to 'Eurydice' which here is Kiawe!!!!!, I *can* see him!!!! instead I do not face a reality, and I succeed in uniting with him away from it.
Also I've been wanting include the Vermillion bird in writing for kiawren. Didn't expect to be hating on it in the poem LOL
