Marsha laid on the bed as she waited for her client to enter. This was normal for her now. She was a fairly successful model by day but she was a escort/exotic entertainer by night. Or that is what Victoria told her to call it.
She was all dolled up and had all night to entertain and delight her client for a big pay check at the end of it. She had her alias given and she was told to do as they said. Date. Dinner. Movie. Sex. Whatever they desired.
She hummed a song as the door opened as she turned to see who it could be....

As a young ish queer, It’s rlly sad that so many young queers don’t know who Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Ramirez, and other trans activists that were key figures and partially led the gay liberation. I saw someone on the clock app ask why the gay and trans community were even grouped together. This whole group of gays(mostly white) who are essentially terfs, don’t understand the privilege they have and don’t know queer history.
It seems like this group is trying to win brownie points from an oppressing group, it’s giving ‘yea I’m gay but I’m not one of those in your face gays *points to gay man with a rainbow boa*’. Or to simplify, internalized homophobia and misogyny. And people will hop on a gay person saying this as a talking point. “Well I know a gay person that says…(insert smth homophobic)” Giving them merit and ammunition among people in their circle who have never spoken to a queer person.
Did we forget that they go after trans rights first, then gay rights? Did we forget these are also fucking people?
This is why queer history has to be taught and normalized because some of y’all’s own internalized homophobia, misogyny, and transphobia makes you say embarrassing things that hurt all of us. Even if you don’t have empathy, at least DONT BE WRONG TOO.
So do it rn. Get a drink, maybe some water, grab a snack, lil treat and Take 10 minutes to type into a search engine ‘queer history’, read a buzz feed article, look up trans/gay activists, read first hand accounts of stonewall, etc.

All queers are powerful but like drag queens are the front line warriors of our community i think
Like you need to understand the admiration and safety i feel with a drag queen. I’ve never had the privilege to be graced with the presence of one in person but when i am i would trust her with my life.

30% of this website being too young to remember W Bush's presidency does say a lot. This plus the drinking poll plus the sexlessness poll... I'm connecting the dots. Like there's nothing morally or ethically wrong with not drinking or doing drugs, not having sex, being young, etc but this website seems to be full of young people with little life experience and no meaningful education (not even self-education) generating political myths and ideas that filter onto other websites and become pop culture and it's all from like, a xe/it 16-year-old therian who pretends to have DID. For example the Marsha p Johnson myth started on here and that's basically defined LGBT conversations ever since

Book Review #64 of 2023--
Tumblr media
Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl. Rating: 2 stars.
Read from May 24th to 25th.
I struggle to find a way to discuss this novel. The premise is that following a car accident, five friends are stuck in a form of purgatory until they can make a choice. Only one person can survive and make it back to reality while the other four must die. And it must be a unanimous decision. But in order to get to that decision truths must come out and the group must face the reality that they’re all responsible in one way or another for a trauma in their shared past. But the premise is the strongest part of the whole novel which made this one of my most disappointing read in 2023.
I found the writing to be really stilted. A lot of it was overwrought and hard to press through. It felt like the author was trying way too hard to make this a story with A Message. It also didn’t help that the pacing was so off. The author would tell, not show a lot of things and suddenly months have passed in the course of 3 or 4 pages. Then other moments would take chapters. It was frustrating to read. We also had moments where the author would use mental illness in a way that’s just unnecessary and unacceptable. Examples include moments when the narrator suggests someone has schizophrenia because they can do voice acting, or when the narrator jokes that someone has multiple personality disorder.  The book came in 2018 which means there’s no excuse.
I liked the way the mystery was uncovered. I didn't like the answer to the mystery as a whole, but I loved seeing the characters in this purgatory of sorts and finding ways to investigate. I also enjoyed the variety in these characters. They were all unique and different and it was fun to see how those different personalities both worked together and broke down the longer they stayed in this purgatory of sorts.

URGENT: Congress about to pass a mass censorship and surveillance bill under the guise of "protecting children"
May 13 2023
The Senate has been in a "do something!" mode regarding children's online safety. They're using this as an excuse to push for widespread internet censorship and surveillance. The EARN IT Act, has a slimmer chance of passing with widespread opposition and some senators saying they won't vote for it. TLDR;The real threat is actually KOSA (s.1409), the Kid's Online Safety Act, which will mass censor and surveill the entire internet by giving all 50 state attorney generals the power to remove content that is "harmful" for kids, and force you to upload your govt ID online to access the internet. I'll explain how it works below the action items but it's absolutely urgent that anyone who likes having a free and open internet fights back. It's all hands on deck, because this has so much public support it's insane:
HOW TO FIGHT KOSA
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES & THE COMMERCE COMMITTEE
This is a link to the Senate Commerce Committee phone numbers and a call script to read off of. (202) 224-3121 connects you to the congressional hotline
Opposition is getting drowned, and these upcoming weeks will be heavy for lobbying and they're using young people to do it. We NEED to show these senators that young people are actually opposed to this and don't want it.
2. Sign these petitions
Open Letter Against KOSA
Petition 1
Petition 2
Petition 3
Petition 4
Resistbot: Text PHJDYH to 50409
3. Spread the word.
The opposition is getting absolutely drowned online. Dove has nearly 100k signatures to push for KOSA. Influencers on tiktok are pushing for this without ever having read the bill. Fucking Lizzo is sponsoring it. If you have twitter, reddit, tiktok, are in any community, SPREAD THE WORD, PLEASE.
Here is a linktree with all the above petitions for easy shargin: Link to linktree
HOW KOSA WORKS
First, KOSA pressures platforms to install filters that would wipe the net of anything deemed “inappropriate” for minors. This means instructing platforms to censor. We saw how these filters impacted websites firsthand with tumblr in 2018, with not only blocking all adult content but also sfw queer content such as suicide hotlines, art archives, wiping out entire blogs because they had queer fandom related posts, etc. Places that already use content filters have restricted important information about suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ support groups. KOSA would spread this kind of censorship to every corner of the internet. And who gets to decide what is and isn't harmful for minors? Oh don't worry, just every single state attorney general and the FTC, which is appointed by the president. You know, the same attorney generals that just banned gender-affirming healthcare under the guise that it "ruins mental health" of minors. This is why the Heritage Foundation was one of the first to sponsor the bill because they can use it to censor trans content, and Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee is it's co-author.
Second, KOSA would ramp up the online surveillance of all internet users by forcing websites to use age verification and parental monitoring tools. Yup, that's right. Now every single person who wants to access the internet has to upload their govt ID online to third party apps that get hacked all the time. You queer in a red state? You undocumented? You an activist? Have fun getting all your online activity and metadata attached to your govt ID.
Over 90+ human and LGBT rights groups agree that KOSA is dangerous and updates to the 2023 version won’t and can’t address the big problems with the bill. This bill has MASSIVE bipartisan support, and the authors Blumenthal and Blackburn (yes, that Blumenthal that's pushing the EARN IT Act, and who also sponsored the RESTRICT Act and SOPA/PIPA if you remember) are using the tragedy of mothers who lost their kids to online harassment and young adults who've been traumatized online to lobby for it, and got Dove the company to use a bunch of influencers to push for this under the guise it prevents eating disorders...I wish I was lying. There are already 30 co-sponsors.
It is all hands on deck. I'm dead serious when I say if this bill is passed it is the beginning if not end of the open and free internet.

So, while I've talked about this in other posts, I figured I may as well compile it in one post with this nifty propaganda poster (more on that later)
Long story short, they're bringing back KOSA/the Kids Online Safety Act in the US Senate, and they're going to mark it up next Thursday as of the time of this post (4/23/2023).
If you don’t know, long story short KOSA is a bill that’s ostensibly one of those “Protect the Children” bills, but what it’s actually going to do is more or less require you to scan your fucking face every time you want to go on a website; or give away similarly privacy-violating information like your drivers’ license or credit card info.
Either that or force them to censor anything that could even remotely be considered not “kid friendly.” Not to mention fundies are openly saying they’re gonna use this to hurt trans kids. Which is, uh, real fucking bad.
As per usual, I urge you to contact your congresscritters, and especially those on the Commerce Committee, who'll likely be the ones marking it up.
Those senators are:
Maria Cantwell, Washington, Chair
Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota
Brian Schatz, Hawaii
Ed Markey, Massachusetts
Gary Peters, Michigan
Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin
Tammy Duckworth, Illinois
Jon Tester, Montana
Kyrsten Sinema, Arizona
Jacky Rosen, Nevada
Ben Ray Luján, New Mexico
John Hickenlooper, Colorado
Raphael Warnock, Georgia
Peter Welch, Vermont
Ted Cruz, Texas, Ranking Member
John Thune, South Dakota
Roger Wicker, Mississippi
Deb Fischer, Nebraska
Jerry Moran, Kansas
Dan Sullivan, Alaska
Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee
Todd Young, Indiana
Ted Budd, North Carolina
Eric Schmitt, Missouri
J.D. Vance, Ohio
Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia
Cynthia Lummis, Wyoming
Again, it doesn't work unless you do it en-masse, so make sure to call ASAP and tell them to kill this bill, and if they actually want a bill to allow/get sites to protect kids, the Federal Fair Access To Banking Act would be far better.
Also, this poster is officially, for the sake of spreading it, under a CC0 license. Feel free to spread it, remix it, add links to the bottom, edit it to be about the other bad internet bills they're pushing, use it as a meme format, do what you will but for gods' sake get the word out!
Also, shoutout to @o-hybridity for coming up with the slogan for the poster, couldn't have done it without 'em!
