That actually didn't surprise Fraser, it wasn't the most intriguing or popular book but not all knowledge that you should have was all that interesting or exciting. To him it was...but not to everyone else and Fraser knew that. But here he was, learning despite it all. "I don't know, until l've read the book itself, I don't know all the knowledge it holds so I'm currently trapped in a purgatory of a decision that I don't want to make because then I've set a precedent on all books I've never read that may or may not have information. If I decide not to read it, then at what point is a book important enough for me to decide to read it? And if I decide to read it, does that mean I've now set a trajectory to read every single book that's ever been written?"

phyllis was restocking some books on a shelf nearby, turning her head at the posed question, squinting her eyes at the book in the stranger's hand. ❛ hmm ?? oh, i can't say that i have, ❜ the ghoul confessed, turning fully now so she could get a closer look at the cover, giggling at his dilemma. not at him, of course !! but... at the struggle. she knew it all too well. ❛ what kind of important information are you worrying about missing ?? ❜ she inquired, discretely setting the books she was maneuvering around down on the cart she was pushing around. ❛ nothing's impossible... ❜ well, some things were, but... that was a discussion for another day. ❛ — maybe you should flip a coin. ❜

Welcome to Letters2fiction!
The concept here is to send in a question or a letter request, and you’ll get a response from your fictional character of choice, from the list below. Please stick to the list I’ve made, but of course, you can ask if there’s some other characters I write for, I don’t always remember all the shows, movies or books I’ve consumed over the years and I’m sure I’m missing a lot 😅

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW
Casper Kowalski is based on Casper from Casper The Friendly Ghost. They are a 23 year old ghost, video store employee, and uses they/them pronouns. They have the power of invisibility, psychokinesis and floating. Casper is portrayed by Alin Szewczyk and they are taken.
CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE
For most of Casper’s “life”, all they have known is Whipstaff Manor. They were born into the manor by two loving phantom parents so since birth all they have known is death. They never knew what it was like to even want to do the things that made humans, well human, because they hardly ever saw humans past the brave souls that tried to look into Whipstaff Manor on a dare or prank. All Casper has ever wanted was friends but every time they introduced themselves to a human, they ran off in fear. Casper knew plenty of ghosts that liked that kind of situation; their uncles, nicknamed the Ghostly Trio being a few, but they never enjoyed scaring others. They were lovingly labeled as “the friendly ghost” by their family and honestly? They liked the sound of that. Casper spent so many years trying to keep that title too. Of course it wasn’t always easy since their uncles normally scared people off before they could even have a chance to say hi, but they were determined to find people that they could call their dearest friends someday. They began sneaking out of Whipstaff Manor and studied the humans that lived amongst them. They practiced their abilities so they could pass as close to humans as possible and when they finally thought they were ready… they ran away. Their plan was to just go to the neighboring town and try to see if their human lessons paid off, but somehow they floated into Evermore instead. Evermore was a culture shock! They didn’t know there were other kinds of people aside from ghosts and humans. Vampires, witches, werewolves and more; it was all so amazing! It was also incredibly nerve wracking. For the first few months they hid in abandoned warehouses and wherever there were hardly any people so that they could work up the nerve to introduce themselves. Eventually they worked up enough courage to make their debut. They didn’t introduce themselves as a friendly ghost though… just a friendly person! And it even worked! They got a job, they got an apartment, and they have been able to make Evermore their home. They miss the Ghostly Trio and their parents a lot, but every time they try to leave they end up right back in town, losing their memories as to why they wanted to leave more and more. One day they just stopped trying and continued on as what they considered normal. For once in Casper’s long, long, afterlife they feel like they have a real shot at finding friends and maybe even more! Though, they do worry how their new friends and new life will take to knowing that they are a ghost.
I HAD A FEELING SO PECULIAR
❀ Phyllis Geist: They are drawn to her and they aren’t sure why. They feel like Phyllis is someone that sees life a lot like them and she’s so pretty and has the best laugh. They get so tongue-tied every time they try to talk to her. ❀ Joy Fraser: She is one of the first friendly people Casper has met in Evermore! She is so outgoing and pleasant to be around and she makes Casper wanna be more outgoing too. ❀ Tommy Pickles: Casper always knows it’s gonna be a fun night at work when Tommy is there! They get to work the back stock, which is preferred since they don’t have to explain the floating movies and such that way. Though, Tommy has never said anything even if he has noticed.
THAT THIS PAIN WOULD BE FOR EVERMORE

6th January 1978 saw the death in Shetland of Thomas Fraser.
Fraser was a fisherman and crofter from Burra who left thousands of songs recorded at home using a reel-to-reel recorder, and his music was first released in 2002 after his tapes were undiscovered for 25 years.
Fraser was born in Outterabrake on Burra, a collection of islands and islets which parallel the western shore of Mainland Shetland. . He performed as a musician at family events and gave one of his first public performances in Hamnavoe in 1948.
Despite an innate shyness, his country and western style of music soon became widely appreciated across Shetland. Thomas met and married his wife Phyllis, another enthusiastic Shetland musician, in 1955, and the two went on to record and play together.
Thomas had begun to earn his living as a fisherman on locally based boats at the age of 16. By the late 1950s he was operating his own lobster boat, still in the waters he had known all his life, while also working the family croft. On 19 October 1973 Thomas’s boat ran aground on rocks off Burra. After spending some time in the icy water he was rescued by other fisherman, but his uninsured boat was wrecked. Early in 1977 Thomas was injured while dredging for scallops and flown to Aberdeen for treatment. Although still clearly unwell after his return to Shetland he refused further medical help and passed away on January 6th aged just 50.
During his lifetime Thomas Fraser has made many recordings of his work on a reel to reel tape recorder, often for family and friends. After his death, requests for copies of his recordings increased. His nephew made some available on cassette during the 1980s, but it was his grandson who began to appreciate the lasting value of Thomas Fraser’s music. This lead to the release in 2002 of a 25 track CD, Long Gone Lonesome Blues. A series of further CDs followed, together with a BBC TV documentary Shetland Lone Star, while the National Theatre of Scotland has mounted a stage production of the Thomas Fraser story. Meanwhile Thomas Fraser has gone from someone virtually unheard of outside Shetland to a country music legend with an international following. It’s just a shame he isn’t here to see it.
The people of Burra remember Thomas Fraser with The Thomas Fraser Concerts, which were first held in 2002, they have since morphed into the annual Thomas Fraser festival attracted musicians from around the globe.
Take a lidsten to him singing, it's pure rythm and blues, his voice is straight from the Appalachians in the USA........

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
aka "Orange Shirt Day" and, sometimes simply, "T&R Day"
For those of you who are not familiar with the “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation” or simply “Orange Shirt Day” - it is a yearly observance day held on September 30th as the day to recognize the genocidally destructive impact of the residential school systems have had on the lives and cultures of the indigenous peoples.
Initially begun in 2013 by author/activist Phyllis Jack Webstad  - a member of  Northern Secwepemc (Shuswap) of the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation (formerly known as Canoe CreekBand/Dog Creek Indian Band) tribe of the Fraser Canyon-Cariboo region of British Columbia  - this day of observance eventually achieved statutory holiday status within Canada in 2021.
Why is it sometimes referred to as "Orange Shirt Day”? When Webstad spoke of her experiences as a child within the residential school system, she shared a story about her  first day at school. Excited about going to a new school and eager to make a good first impression, Webstad gone shopping for new clothes with her Grandmother. There was an Orange shirt that she saw that she liked - her Grandmother bought it for her.
When she got to school with her new clothes - she found herself at the mercy of a residential school system that had no mercy to give. All of her new clothing? Removed and replaced in favor of pre-selected mandatory uniforms. The loss of the bright Orange shirt upset her. According to Webstad, she never saw it or any of her clothes again.
The basic purpose of the residential school system was brutally simple: forced assimilation by requiring that all children be made to abandon any semblances of their indigenous identities in favor of mandatory caucasian outlook. Their clothes, culture, hair, and language - all strictly forbidden.
What's the purpose of all this? Simple, First Nations tribes were here long before the first "white colonizers" began to arrive from Europe. Before long, colonizers quickly achieved the upper hand by routine gradual systemic elimination of indigenous tribes. Although they were a variation on an old theme, the  schools were very much part and parcel of this multi-front process.
As stated earlier - they were attacking First Nations existence and sovereignty by aiming squarely at the younger generations through forced assimilation. While "assimilation" may have been the stated goal - what happened was much worse: many were openly attacked and brutalized simply for being while a great many others simply "disappeared". Records were spotty and much of the evidence was either ignored, altered, or disposed of. Those that survived this system were forced to submit and accept. Some have begun to speak out.
The “orange shirt” that Webstad spoke of? It became the chosen symbol of this new movement. Although it began in Canada - it has found acceptance in the United States  and other places as well.
The simple message of the “Orange Shirt Day” is that “Every Child Matters” - it is an indictment of a system in which many of the children trapped within its’ reach were simply deemed “disposable” and were all-too frequently “disappeared” - never to be seen or heard from again. Those who survived the system were indelibly marked by their shared experiences which left many of them unable to cope. Their stories have only begun to be heard and understood by the outside world at large.
