There's something to be said about Mouthwashing's weaponization of the video game medium. The game is very easily comparable to a movie, between its runtime and cinematic framing and focus on narrative, but the fact that it is a video game, that we play as Jimmy for much of it and take on his actions ourselves, is I think really effective in its usage.

You are the one given the all caps RESPONSIBILITY, the disproportionate power of the captain, and you are the one failing miserably to use it well. You have to scan the codes, you have to give Curly his medicine, the first action you're presented with is to turn the ship in the wrong direction. No other option available. The experience it gives you of realizing again and again that you, that Jimmy, is not doing the most sensible thing, that he's being stupid and cruel and spiteful, is really effective in forcing you to contend with the excellently written character study on a personal level.

Waking up in the middle of the night and hearing Curly groaning in pain, and then going to bother Anya about giving Curly his meds only for Jimmy to INSIST on doing it himself, I thought to myself "c'mon man why wouldn't you just give him the meds to begin with," only to realize over the rest of the game exactly why he didn't do that. By putting the player in the role of this character, carrying out his actions step by step without choice in the matter, the irrationality of his decisions is made personally exasperating. You notice the patterns.

Stiles was glad to see Derek waiting for him. They walked out of the class together, though Derek caught his sleeve soon after and led him to the side of the hall. He waited as the students passed them before speaking.

“I wanted to ask you. About the spring dance…”

Stiles’ heart skipped a beat at those words. He tried to remain cool and unaffected but Derek grinned either way.

“I heard you were going to Seattle,” he finished.

Stiles blinked at him, hoping the warmth didn’t show on his cheeks. “Uh, yeah?”

“I was wondering if I could drive you.”

Stiles stared at him. “Huh?”

“Do you want a drive to Seattle?”

“W-with you?”

“Uh, yeah.”

This�� was kind of sudden. Last week they didn’t talk at all, and now Derek was offering him… a ride? Alone in the car for two fucking hours with Derek fucking Hale? Who was, by the way, smiling again?

“My car works fine,” Stiles blurted and immediately cursed himself. Why the fuck did he just say that? Why?!

But Derek only smirked. “I saw you wrapping tape around the wires last Thursday. If you think it’ll survive the drive to Seattle, you’re not as smart as I thought you were.”

“So… you were looking at me.”

“Yes.”

They stared at each other.

Stiles couldn’t help but notice the way Derek’s eyes lightened. His whole face, so handsome yet so grim before, was nothing but soft now. Relaxed.

It couldn’t mean anything except one thing. It really was about Stiles — his gloom and glare, his dark circles and lack of appetite at lunch. There was no denying it. All of Stiles’ doubts paled before the sharp glint of the evidence.

Whatever tension was between them, it only grew each time they spoke. They both knew it, felt it, thick, viscous, and sweet like honey. It left them wanting more.

Standing still in the buzzing corridor, they let the noise wash over them. Both came to a silent conclusion that they would not be able to stay apart. They tried, and look what it led to. None of them wanted to resist the pull.

Stiles pursed his lips in a smile. Derek’s glance slipped to his mouth and back before he, too, huffed out a laugh.

“Can I drive you to Seattle?” he asked in a low voice.

“Yeah,” Stiles said quietly and watched the grin bloom on Derek’s lips.

He forgot the last time he felt this light.

Usopp's constant negativity and anxiety are something useful and "positive" at the end of the day (eg: fight against Perona) because he doesn't necessarily need to change his views, he just needs to trust himself and his abilities more and he just uses what he has at the moment which is, you know, negativity. It is not something positive but it does keep him safe from danger and he will end up being proud of himself and stronger than he could ever imagine, but that doesn't mean he'll stop being negative. It's just another personality trait a lot of people have, and Usopp using it for his advantage is something great, I feel. He takes pride in being like that. He's loud and shameless about it.

Unlike Sanji, who dwells on his negativity on his own. Quietly. And lets it consume him without having any power over it. His self-sabotaging and self-sacrificing behavior often comes from a place of giving up out of fear of others getting hurt to save him because that's pretty much his core fear. Being a burden/Not being able to save the people he cares about from himself and his past. It's not something the manga shows that much in comparison to Usopp's negativity, but Sanji's pessimistic views are pretty much one of the reasons why WCI happens and why he puts himself in the worst situation in Wano.

And I think (this is why I'm writing all of this) that they're perfect for each other because Usopp could show him that being afraid and negative isn't something so bad. After all, at least Usopp is aware that if he can't do something, the crew will help him out no matter what. Usopp's negative, yes, but it's alright because he doesn't go through it on his own. Even if he does look shameless and "selfish" when desperately asking for help (he isn't, by the way. It's actually pretty reasonable to act like that). Sanji needs to learn to ask for help shamelessly too and he needs to stop putting all the weight of the world's negativity on his shoulders. They need to carry it together.

Like- There's just something so personal in Usopp going "Yes! I am scared. Frightened even. Please, help!" because he might not like that part of him and he's trying to be stronger and more independent every day, but he acknowledges that things can go south and his reaction is very fight or flight but pretty mostly flight to be safe. While Sanji's response is always to fight because he refuses to let others know he needs help in case something happens to them (and also because he feels ashamed of feeling weak). Usopp shares the responsibility and accepts that he's kind of a loser sometimes but Sanji refuses to do so.

This is just a thought about Sanji learning that being a coward and asking for help isn't bad because they're meant to do stuff like that, and Usopp growing to be stronger and independent but not necessarily stop being pessimistic because sometimes you just... Are like that. Sometimes you're scared. Sometimes you have anxiety. And that's alright. You can be strong anyway.

I was reading your posts about Ari and Felix and this scenario popped into my head. Let me know what you think of it!

What if Felix’s family hosted some sort of Formal event in America and Felix took the opportunity to invite Ari. Whether Felix is planning to win her back or to apologize idk, and I think Ari certainly wouldn’t know. You can tell me if Ari would even consider attending, but I like the idea that she does, and that she brings Rocky along to make it absolutely clear she’s moved on. Like, to rub it in, a bit 😁. Eleanor would definitely want to go I think, maybe she convinces Ari to go so that she has an excuse to invite herself haha

Shenanigans would ensue I’m sure. Or at least drama. It’s fun to think about, right?

Félix is too sour to invite Ari to anything and she would definitely not go if he did, so my idea is more specifically at aunt Isa's birthday party: Ari receives an invite and knowing Félix and his family will most likely attend she really doesn't wanna go at first, but the thought of taking Rocky as her plus-one makes it sound more bearable (+ he gets to meet the rest of her family, and if she does bump into Félix she won't be alone ✨ hooray ✨)

there's a part of Félix that still likes Ari and wishes they could get back together somehow, but alas he's prideful and petty- the fact she broke up with him but is now dating a street rat his words not mine is like rubbing more salt in the wound. their reunion turns into a bit of a screaming match

i picture him pulling Rocky aside at some point to try and convince him Ari's a bitch who'll dump him as well once she gets bored 🙄

as for Eleanor, she'd get an invite too!! aunt Isa's friends with her and her boss! and y'know her nosy nature would make her aware of the drama surrounding Félix, so... ..before the party's over she's gonna put him in his place a little gdskgds

overall a 7.5/10 night, it ends on a good note despite the few bumps

HONESTLY. Colour picking is one of the things I am like the LEAST confident in ever, so the compliment very very very nicies to hear ehehehhee thank you (: BUT!!!!!!!!!! TIPS AND TRICKS I DO HAVE! (With a Seven from HLVRV as a reference because I've been rotating her lately and she was the first thing to come to mind haha) (Cut just because I put a lot of pictures and rambling and I don't want to flood people's dashes haha)

Filtering layers baby!!!! They are my everything ever when it comes to getting colours looking good haha. My secret. My trick. My personal flair in all the art ever. The Key Ingredient. You see my sona? THATS IT BABY!!! I use my iconic reddish purple shade from my hair for pretty much everything ever and it works wonders hehehe watch watch this.

BA BAM. We have a guy. Plain ol flat colours. BUT!!! We make a layer above that. And colour EEEEEEEVERYTHING in with a good ol saturated sample of the reddish purple. AND THEN!!!!!!! We put a layer effect on that bad boy. I flip flop between a few but for this example I did Overlay, and then I turn the opacity down to! Whatever feels right! today it's 20% (:

WA POW!!!!!! The canvas upon which you can keep layering various bright colours with various filtering effects to your liking hehehehe. I switch it up a lot, But I usually keep it in the orange to pink range just cause thats what I like (: BUT!!!!!! to REALLY get that Merin Merklins colouring job in there? We take! ANOTHER SHADE OF REDDISH PURPLE! A DARKER ONE! (Or sometimes I'll take a blue if it vibes better with the piece haha) and we draw ALL THE SHADOWS! It will look VERY ODD AT FIRST. BUT!!! Back to our layer effects baby. Pick whichever one looks niciest. I bounce between Darken, Multiply, Overlay, Soft Light, or even just Normal. I did Darken here (: and THEN!!!! Turn your opacity down again until you like what you're seeing, I did 40% here.

BA BAM!!!!!! CHECK OUT THOSE COLOURS BABYYYYY. Ehehehehehe! You can do it with any colour you want, it doesn't have to be the red-purple, but thats My Brand and My Favourite so thats what I do (: You can also!!! Make the lighter colour and the darker colour two DIFFERENT colours, and it can look VERY sick (: Here's a few examples so you can see!

AND TAADAAAAAHHHHH Thats one way to get what I think are some real nicies tasty colours going on hehehe. Again, LOTS of wiggle room! I tend to spend forever futzing around with layers because they each play a little differently based on what colours you're using! Try different colours different layer effects, see whatever floats your boat (: ALSO Screenshot of my layers for simplicity's sake and easy reference too!

BA BAM!!!!!!! TUTORIAL OVER!!! Basically fool around do whatever you want forever, but bright saturated colours is what I do and bright saturated colours are fun hehehe. my very pleasant start to the day (got gender juice topped off, ran errands, got good lunch, talked with mom) was nearly ruined by the setback of my doctor being clearly out of the loop and freaking out about a thing that's actually fine if there's no changes (and there were none).

but only nearly.

because the MAJOR fucking bureaucratic problem i've been wrestling with for months FINALLY cleared purgatory and now everything that was waiting for it started moving. like i almost don't even care if the previously stuck applications don't get approved. i'm just fucking happy the issue got resolved and i'm dealing with the normal amount of bullshit. hell, i had workers from THREE different bureaus/programs say that they had never dealt with a case like mine before lmao. that's not the kind of unique you want to be!

anyway my day was actually not made by that but by the bargain bin yarn that allowed me to accidentally an entire back piece in one sitting:

context: i've been working on a fishnet-y crochet shirt/sweater for myself for ages. it's completely winged, not based on any instructions. recently when i visited family, one of my niblings asked about what i was making.

me: so it might end up too small for me, but oh well. that just means i'll get to gift it to someone smaller than me!

It's absolutely a me thing, probably, but people who say that they hate an author and have the time to reiterate it endlessly but continues to support their work- without ever crediting the good part of the writing that makes them a fan to begin with- irks me so goddamn much.

An author and their work is very intrinsically tied together. They write their beliefs of the world in the text, their sociopolitical stance practically bleeds out from the pages. Of course this isn't the case when you're making a comic or book/any form of media for the sake of it being disturbing, but the point is, I need people to understand that an artist's work is an extension of themselves and you need to respect that especially if it's a work that you love and connect with.
