Young queers.
I know you're scared.
But take it from an older queer who grew up in New York City in the 80s - we do not go quiet into this night. Queer people aren't a funeral dirge, we are a community, a celebration, a riot.
Be loud.
Get angry.
Take up space.
Fight with whatever weapons you have, with honesty and integrity and determination and hand-in-hand with other oppressed targeted groups.
I'm scared too, and I have been fighting for as long as I can remember, and I will keep fighting, and you can join us and fight too.
Endure.
We will not go quietly.
We are gonna be *huge* bitches about it.

I have some guesses.
I've never used Wattpad but I'm aware that it does have a ranking algorithm. However, Ao3 tags Don't Work That Way, so anyone coming from Wattpad and expecting Ao3 to have an algorithm to game is in for a culture shock.
Chances are that some amount of Ao3's users access the site mainly or solely(!) by smartphone. If you're browsing through a fandom on mobile, you won't see the Sort and Filter box on the right as you would on desktop. You'll have to hit the Filters button to open it. Therefore, a newbie on mobile might not think to hit the Filters button right away. What's really strange to me is that one can sort by hits, kudos, or whatnot but there's a false assumption in the screenshots that those things automatically "boost" a work. I think part of that is also a side effect of migrations from Wattpad.
I don't know, I grew up when Google-Fu meant something. I don't understand how anyone completely misses how the default listings work. (That worries me, honestly.) At least for the ones in the screenshots, I'd like to think enough time has passed for them to have picked up on that.
A few of these are probably referring to the date posting bug thing, but AAAAAAAAAAAH!
#ao3#fanfiction#fandom#i have no idea where reposting fics to keep them on the top of the page is anything other than a dick move#i mean how can it not be?#oh boy 3 AM#scheduled for the morning

Got too excited and did this in a rush. Didn't really proofread...
Kate: Ring!
…
Kate: Ring!
…
Kate: Riiiinngg!
(I can't find him anywhere…)
Today was Valentine's Day— a day to gift chocolates and other gifts to express your appreciation or love.
I had prepared chocolates to show my appreciation to everyone who's supported me.
That included the members of Crown of course, the friendly maids at Crown's castle, and even the members of Vogel.
However, Ring was the only person I couldn't find today.
(He usually says he's watching me and follows right behind me… where could he be?)
I was determined to give Ring his chocolates, and so I kept searching for him…
In the end, I never found him.
…
(Darius and Nica said he was somewhere in the palace when I asked…)
(He might come back to drawing room, so I'll wait here for now.)
When I sat down on a chair and let out a deep sigh to ease my fatigue, a wave of sleepiness slowly washed over me.
(I know I shouldn't fall asleep in a place like this, and yet…)
The more I tried to shake off the sleepiness, the heavier my eyelids grew.
Just as I decided to give in and take a short nap, I felt soft blanket being gently draped over my shoulders.
(Who is it…?)
I cracked my eyes open slightly, and saw that the person standing before me was the exact person I had been searching for the entire time.
Kate: Ring!
Ring: UWAH!? You… you're awake!?
Kate: I just woke up. There's something I want to tell you, so please hear me out!
I firmly grabbed his arm to make sure he wouldn't run off.
Ring: Sigh… so this is where my escape ends.
Kate: I knew it. I couldn't find you all day, because you were avoiding me on purpose, weren't you?
Kate: Why are you running away from me? If it's something I did, I'll apologise.
Ring: No… it's not anything you did…
Ring: … I just didn't want to be disappointed.
He muttered in a small voice that sounded no louder than a squeak.
Kate: Disappointed…?
Ring: You gave… chocolates to Nica and Darius this morning, right?
Ring: I kept thinking, what if I ran into you today and didn't get any chocolate…?
Ring: I'd probably feel disappointed and think "I was right, I'm not getting any", so I chose to run away.
Ring: … I'm weird, aren't I?
Ring: Until now, it's never bothered me whenever Darius and Nica received gifts from girls and I didn't…
Ring: But the thought of not receiving chocolates from you really made me feel gloomy.
Listening to Ring express his confusion with those unfamiliar feelings filled my heart with warmth.
Kate: To think you wanted my chocolates so much… I'm really honoured.
Kate: You feeling gloomy over the possibility of not receiving them is proof that our friendship has gotten closer!
When I was a child, I would feel lonely too if my friends played with other children instead of me.
Ring's feelings were most likely something similar to that.
Ring: Is that… what it is? No, I'm a member of Vogel and you're from Crown. There's no need for us to get along…
It seemed that Ring still believed he shouldn't be on friendly terms with someone from Crown.
Ignoring his last statement, I took out the chocolates.
Kate: Here, Ring. Happy Valentine's Day!
Ring: This is… for me? I-is it because I said I wanted chocolate…?
Kate: Not at all. I prepared this specifically for you from the start.
Kate: I was looking for you so I could give you these chocolates.
Ring: R-really? I never thought there would come a day when I'd receive Valentine's chocolate…
Ring: … I figured I'd spend my whole life just eating Nica's leftover chocolate.
Ring: Thanks. I'm… I'm super happy.
Ring: I think I'll spend every day and night staring at these chocolates.
Kate: Huh?
Ring: If I look at them whenever I wake up in the mornings and before I go to sleep at night, I'll always remember how happy I was when I received them from you…
Kate: Um, they're chocolate, so I'd prefer if you ate them…
Ring: … But they'll be gone if I do.
Ring looked serious about leaving the chocolate untouched, like a dog burying its treat for safekeeping.
(If that's the case…)
Kate: Gotcha!
I switftly snatched the chocolates from Ring's hand and ripped open the packaging.
Ring: My chocolate…!
Kate: I'll give you more next year, so don't feel bad about it. Come on, open your mouth!
Ring: Mmph!
I forcibly stuffed chocolate into Ring's mouth.
Ring: Mm… it's so… sweet, and delicious…
Kate: That's great! I sampled a few and picked the one I thought was the tastiest!
Ring: And… my chest feels tight, I can't breathe…
Kate: … I promise the chocolates aren't poisoned.
Since Ring often said his heart raced like he was under a curse whenever he saw me, I made sure to set the record straight.
Ring: … I know they're not.
Ring: I'm just so happy to you got me chocolates… it hurts.
Kate: …
(… Him admitting it so straightforwardly is a problem in itself.)
Seeing Ring's overjoyed reaction, I felt sweet inside, even though I didn't have any chocolates myself.

BAD HABIT // JJK
00 | prologue // series m.list
the divinity
there are rules to the universe. constants, like the way the moon pulls the tide, or how the seasons fold into one another without fail.
and then there are soulmates.
for the divinity—the chosen ones, the ones born with a glow beneath their skin—soulmates are less of a possibility and more of a promise.
it’s not just love.
no, that would be too easy.
it’s balance, power, inevitability.
it’s their very being. if they're stars, this is the dust of their very exitance—the very essence of it. only those in the divinity can have soulmates. only the chosen ones can feel it, but the rest of the world can see it.
when soulmates meets, the universe reacts.
auras intertwine, colors bleeding into one another, something cosmic and unbreakable settling between them.
they glow.
when soulmates glow, the invisible string ties them together. being a part for an extensive amount of time leads to sickness. simple symptoms include nausea, headaches, chest pains, and general weakness—sometimes it means life or death.
you
you were always meant to return.
it’s all you ever dreamed of—the palace, the academy, the weight of your name finally meaning something again. you spent years in the outside world, away from the divinity, away from your glow, and now—finally—you’re home.
and you’re ready.
ready to learn, to grow, to embrace your power.
ready to meet the person the universe has chosen for you.
your soulmate.
what you don’t expect is him.
jungkook
jungkook has always known who he is.
he’s a prodigy, a leader, a force to be reckoned with. his aura—golden, commanding—demands attention, his power bending the world around him with effortless precision.
he is not used to things happening to him.
he is not used to surprises.
and yet—
there you are. standing in the great hall, your aura humming in time with his, bright and unshakable.
his soulmate.
his future.
jungkook stares at you, jaw tight, eyes unreadable.
you glow.
context
words
divinity: the chosen ones with auras auras: power / their souls (depends on the context) invisible string: soulmate analogy glow: the glow only happens when soulmates initially meet and only happens when they're in pain or healing the outside: literally the rest of the world that isn't their palace. it's filled with regular people and these people depend on the divinity to keep the balance of the world going (good and bad, life and death, etc)
you
status; born into the 'royal' family that built the palace, that houses the academy. rumoured and referred to 'the long lost princess' as no one in the divinity has ever met you
aura; resistance and immune to everyone else’s powers. you're the one thing in this world that doesn’t bow to the divinity (to be dramatic, you are the divinity)
princessa; grew up outside the palace, living freely. this was because your parents wanted you to see life outside the palace and understand what you'll be responsible for
fate and responsibility; the upcoming leader of the divinity
jungkook
status; one of (if not) the highest of the divinity. he is the one in 7 generations to have this power. it makes him feared and at the same time; so precious
aura; mind control (speciality) but maniplates anything and anyone. from people's mind, feelings, and blood to elements of water, earth, fire, and air. he's basically avatar but emo because...
lifeline; jungkook's aura is rare and often short-lived. the more he uses his aura, his life line shortens. except, no one knows the length of his life line. it's a guessing game for everyone thus why everyone protects him
inspo
this fic has been in my drafts since paraluman and has been posted before (just the series m.list) after literal years of contemplating and multiple crying sessions over wicked (2024) ,, i have reconstructed this fic into something i'm so excited to share with you .
this fic is a mix of wicked vibes, (the anime) gukuen alice, and literally the basic concepts of soulmates (invisible string theory, symptoms when separated from soulmate, etc) and of course !!! mullet jungkook .
to be honest, i'm kinda nervy lol. this is my first time writing a fantasy au and hope to bring all i have planned for this fic into life through the best fitting words and imagery (as you can tell,, i am very nervy as i am yapping thru this) nevertheless, i'm excited to challenge my writing and to mold it into something 10x more dramatic and romantic . i hope i paint the picture just right cos bad habit jk has been living in my mind for wayyy too long . to me, he is the perfect mix of tsundere and gut wrenching simp lol ...
the series will begin feburary 14, 2025 .
all the love,
kimi ♡

If we could only turn back time
꘎♡━━━━━♡꘎ ꘎♡━━━━━♡꘎
Pairing: Chan X gn reader
Summary: After a Dispatch article leaks, your betrayed boyfriend kicks you out of your shared apartment and you're silenced in the worst way possible.
Genre: Angst with a happy ending
Word Count: 5.1K
Trigger warning: Misunderstood trope, physical assault, anger, yelling, a car accident, plus graphic descriptions of physical injuries, and doctors/hospitals.
A/N: I had three hours of sad One Direction music, one request, and a dream. Requestee, you asked for angst and I have given it my all. I hope this meets every expectation and more <3
_ _ _
You were the light of Bang Chan’s life. At least, that’s what he thought. For months, his love grew for you. Over time, he opened up more and more. You crawled into his heart and made yourself at home.
And then you tore it open.
He thought he finally had the love of his life, but it turns out, you were just like the others. Not really loving him, but dragging along, clinging onto clout, and when the next man came, you jumped with both feet. You didn’t even say goodbye, but neither did he.
There was no warning for either of you. One day, the two of you were head over heels for each other. The next, everything fell apart. Hearts cracked like stained glass. Tears fell, but the words from both of you didn’t provide the comfort the other so desperately craved.
In the end, two hearts ripped apart. The world tipped in the wrong direction. You both lost your footing and for weeks, nothing would be the same for either of you, ever again.
~ ~ ~
When you came home from buying groceries, the apartment was quiet, like usual. Chan’s warm presence had been gone since this morning. Up at the crack of dawn, he disappeared to continue making his dreams come true.
You missed him when he was gone, just as he missed you, but dreams were important. No matter what happened between the two of you, it was the one thing you both agreed that it was important. No matter where your life took you, the most important thing was keeping focused on your dreams.
Yes, the two of you were in love, but that wasn’t stopping either of you from pursuing your passions. Not yet engaged, the two of you vowed to be supportive of each other. Through thick and thin, in the risky moments, and everything in between; you swore to be there for one another.
Your bare feet glided across the tile floor with ease. Without Chan, the apartment felt empty, but that didn’t stop you from trying to make it feel warm and fuzzy. Over on the side counter, you turned on the candle warmer. Maybe by the time Chan got home, the apartment would be full of a welcoming vanilla buttercream.
You swore his cologne had hints of vanilla. He disagreed with you and insisted you didn’t know your scents. Just to prove a point, you bought the vanilla candle, and yet, he refused to see it.
He could be stubborn like that sometimes. Certain things he couldn’t see. No matter how hard and how obvious you attempted to make these things, he refused to see them. Sometimes, it was more frustrating than anything, but you learned to deal with every part of him; the good and the bad.
You had your own set of flaws, too. Out of everyone existing in the world, there was nobody that you wanted to be with more than Chan. The two of you were still so young. There was a lifetime of adventures and fun to have. You were hoping the relationship between the two of you would last forever.
It ended when Chan stormed through your front door. The bang of the front door slamming against the sidewall sent your heart racing. You grabbed a can of peas for defense and held your breath.
Footsteps stormed through your living room. Your fingers turned pale around the can. A sigh of relief fell from you when you saw the furrow on Chan’s face. “Holy shit, you scared the crap out of me. What’s wrong, baby? What happened?”
You put down the can and walked towards him. Your hands stretched out to grab his face. To your surprise, he swatted them away. Your eyes widen at the faint sting. “What are you-”
“You don’t get to baby me after what you did!”
“I-I did something? What did I-”
“Shut up! You don’t get to pretend like you don’t know! You know I’ve felt like a piece of shit because I can’t be here twenty-four-seven! You know I travel for work and yet you still choose to hurt me in the worst way possible!”
Confusion filled your face and it just pissed him off more. He jerked his Samsung phone from his pocket. You watched as he typed in the password. Your actions from the past few days rolled through your head like stop-motion. Each silent click, more scenes filled your head.
None of them stood out. You couldn’t recall what you did wrong, but Chan was furious. Your mouth opened, but words didn’t come out. He flipped the screen to find the bold words of a Dispatch article. Your heart hit the ground with a sickening splat.
Trouble in paradise: A Rocky Road Ahead For Stray Kids’ Bang Chan’s Romantic Relationship.
Attached, two photos of you grinning at another JYP idol from another group. In one, you were waving at them. In another, you were leaning over and hugging them.
“It’s not what it looks like!”
“Really? Because you know what it looks like to me? It looks like you were attempting to hide a close relationship with someone in a younger group.”
“That’s not true! Chan, it’s Dispatch! You can’t possibly believe that I-”
“I want you out of my apartment.”
Your face fell at his words. “You…you wouldn’t. Please, just let me explain and I-”
“When have you ever talked about him? Never! You’ve never been close to another idol! Yet now, you’re hugging him?”
“Chan, please!”
“Get out!”
“But-”
“Out!” His voice raised. “Get your stuff and get the fuck out of my apartment! Don’t bother coming back!”
The words were loud enough to frighten you. You left the grocery bags scattered on the kitchen island and took off. Tears filled your eyes. You wanted to explain, but he kept cutting you off.
Too heated to think about the situation, his insecurities got the best of him. In the kitchen, he slumped against the counter with his head in his hands. Warm tears filled his eyes at the sound of your sniffles.
He wanted to comfort you, but the hurt was too much. He grew to love you with everything he had and within one Dispatch article, his swollen heart popped. How could you do this to him? After everything the two of you had been through, why did you have to ruin it?
Tears blurred your vision and you didn’t look back. You jerked items from the closet and tossed them in your suitcase. Grabbing handfuls from each of your dresser drawers, you tossed them in with everything. Even the toiletries, you didn’t have time to organize them.
Chan wanted you to go, so you’d leave. At the end of the day, this was his apartment. You paid rent, but his name was the first on the contract. He paid the down payment, not you.
You gave him one last desperate look as you passed by, but he didn’t see it. His name fell from your mouth in a weak croak, but he didn’t pull his hands from his eyes. “Please, just go away.”
You spun around, gripped your suitcase tighter, and then you did.
~ ~ ~
All night, you drove around without a destination in mind. You refused to call one of Chan’s members and plead for help. It’d only stir up drama in the group. That was the last thing you wanted.
Numbness hung over your head. You still couldn’t believe everything that happened a few hours ago. If he would have listened, he would have understood. The tears dried up a while ago, but the empty feeling in your chest didn’t go away.
Seoul’s late afternoon crept into another dark night. Gray blotted skies drifted into a pitch black. Neon lights reflected off the paint on your car, but the warm colors didn’t warm your heart.
The car felt lonely without Chan. You’d give anything to hear his laughter from beside you. The playful banter while he reminded you to turn on the correct turn signal. It’d been a constant inside joke between the two of you. Ever since you accidentally flicked on the wrong signal and turned the wrong way, he’d never let it go.
The way he tipped his head forward. Messy tendrils of dark hair fell over his forehead. His squeaky laugh warmed your heart. Such a far comparison from the anger that rattled the apartment walls earlier.
You poked his dimples between the stoplights. On nights when the two of you wanted to get away from everyday life, you found peace in this car. You’d drive and be in control for once. He’d sit beside you with a hand on your thigh.
Simple conversations filled the car. Love pooled between the two of you. Shared laughter, quiet conversations, and the secret getaway that your car provided you’d do anything to turn back time.
You loved him for a reason. You always had and you always would. Just because photos told one story, it didn’t mean they told the entire story. Snippets didn’t capture the truth. The context was important, but Chan was too distraught tonight.
Too stressed out. Too angry. Too frustrated. Things built up and that article was the breaking point. Those photographs became thorns in your relationship. In one day, the roses wilted. Withered petals gathered at your feet.
Tomorrow would be better, you reassured yourself as you drove. Tomorrow, Chan would realize he was wrong. He jumped the gun in this situation. In the morning, he’d call you and apologize.
Tomorrow, you’d be welcomed home with a heartfelt apology and a bouquet of fresh flowers. A glass full of red wine, sweets, and a home cooked dinner. Tomorrow, things will be okay again. These tears were temporary. This hurt wouldn’t last forever.
At a stoplight, you grabbed your phone and dialed Changbin’s number. On speaker phone, you waited and waited, but he didn’t pick up. If anyone would know the truth and be able to rationalize Chan’s brain, it was him.
The red light from the stoplights highlighted faint tear streaks. You sniffled, wiping your long sleeve across your dripping nose. Your eyes shut and your voice cut out and quivered as you spoke.
“Please know that I didn’t mean to cause him or you guys any harm. I ran into him the other day and asked if he could help teach me a dance. He’s one of JYP’s best dancers and I know Stray Kids are busy. His group is on break and I just thought I could surprise Chan with a dance.”
“Saying it out loud, I get that it’s stupid now. I was just hoping it’d cheer him up. He’s been so stressed lately. I thought the least I could do was make him laugh.”
“If you get a chance and if he’s willing to hear it, please let him know I love him. I love him and I’m sorry. Dispatch is stupid and I hate them. You can even ask that idol and he’ll tell you the same thing. I’m so sorry, Changbin. I’ll talk to you later. I have to find a place to stay tonight.”
You swallowed the lump in your throat and shut your eyes. After clicking the end call button on your phone, you threw the device into your passenger’s seat. Maybe if you were lucky, Chan would hear out Changbin. Level-headed and rational, you knew Chan appreciated the advice he gave out.
A car horn honked behind you. Your eyes quickly reopened and the green light stared back at you. Unblinking, you grumbled beneath your breath. “I’m going, I’m going, geez.” You inched out into the intersection, expecting to continue going straight.
You weren’t expecting your car to jerk left. Your screams blended with the sound of crushing metal. Orange sparks flew. The sickening scent of burnt rubber and diesel hit your nose. Your seatbelt cut into your neck and briefly cut off your air flow.
The last thing you remembered was the horn of the semi-truck vibrating your entire car.
~ ~ ~
It wasn’t Dispatch that was the first one to find out about the devastating car accident; instead, it was Jeongin. He sucked in a deep breath as he walked into the hospital. Last night, after struggling with the flu, someone admitted his friend to the hospital.
He mumbled beneath his breath, trying to figure out what to say. A blue medical mask sat over his nose and mouth. He knew to keep his distance, but he still felt awful that they were here.
Hospitals were lonely. In the brief moments when families and friends disappeared. When the nurses were following their routine rounds and doctors were checking in on other patients, people were left alone. The isolating white walls. The uncomfortable piercing beeps from the heart rate monitor. The cold IV drips, distributing medicine directly into the bloodstream.
Surgical stitches ached. Disease weighed heavily upon the lungs. Intubation and the mechanical push and pull of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Hospitals were the opposite of warm and welcoming. Cold and sterile, he rather wished his friend was at home.
The colorful bouquet of multicolored flowers was the brightest thing in the hallway. Closed doors with numbers passed by as he walked. The nurse’s announcement of his friend’s room number echoed in his head.
It dissipated when he heard your name from a nurse in a cracked room. Before he knew it, he was pushing the door open and stepping inside. On the hospital bed, you were unrecognizable. Scrapes and cuts laced your face. Both plum purple eyes swelled shut.
The right side of your face puffed up unnaturally. Black stitches poked out from the bottom of your lip. That was just your face. That wasn’t beginning to touch the cast on your arm and the rest of your body hidden beneath the blue covers.
He knew it was you. He recognized the promise ring on your ring finger. He had helped Chan pick it out. He glanced around, searching for Chan, but he wasn’t there.
“Are you lost?”
He glanced up to find the nurse. Her blonde hair tied back in a high ponytail. She observed him through black, circular-rimmed glasses.
He shook his head and repeated your name. The nurse frowned and he pointed to you. “Is this-”
“Are you family?”
“Brother.”
You weren’t biologically related, but it felt true deep down.
~ ~ ~
Changbin tried to bring the situation up to Chan, but every time he spoke your name, Chan would shut down. From what Changbin knew, Chan didn’t know what happened to you. The rest of the guys did, but they all received the same results. Every time they spoke your name, Chan grew irritated and short-tempered.
“I don’t want to talk about them! Stop bringing them up! Enough!”
The charming and charismatic leader unraveled at the seams. His heart was full of love for you and you ruined it. That wasn’t something he took lightly. The hurt oozed out in other ways.
His songs weren’t coming together as easily anymore. He used to get your feedback when he went home, but now the apartment was empty. The bed was colder without you. He was lonely, but he wouldn’t admit it.
He snapped during dance practice. After he snapped at a manager, a manager lectured him about authority and respecting his elders. Nobody understood the hurt that he was going through. It didn’t help that Dispatch began showing up and bothering him.
They could take all the pictures they wanted. He’d never give them the satisfaction of breaking his heart. Instead of listening, he put on his airpods and cranked up the music. He shoved through the camera flashes with his baseball hat low and a face mask covering the rest of his face. They didn’t deserve to turn his heartbreak into entertainment.
He’d never let them break him. They already did it once. You were gone and the longer you went without a call or a text, he assumed they were right. They caught you cheating and you accepted it. You didn’t fight for your relationship.
You didn’t call and beg for him to take you back. You didn’t call and try to explain. He sent you one text, but you never opened it. He was at a complete loss without you.
Some would call him stubborn for it, but he’d say that he was just trying to protect himself from more hurt.
~ ~ ~
The lonely days for you didn’t stay lonely for long. Jeongin discovered you hours after your accident. The days slipped by, but you weren’t alone anymore. Unconscious and pumped full of medicine, sure. They were far from lonely.
Every evening, the guys took turns hanging out beside your bed. Seungmin would sing the songs you liked. Jeongin told you funny stories of Chan, trying to bring you back to consciousness. Minho brought you warm comments from the fans who found out about your accident. The rest of the guys had their own things, but Chan’s voice never filled the room.
Stuck in a coma, things were dark. Occasionally, you could hear the beeping of your machines. You could feel your lungs expand and compress unnaturally. Your body felt like a shell more than anything. Voices came and went, but never Chan’s.
In the darkness, you couldn’t see. You weren’t sure if you were dead or not. Stranger’s voices appeared in soft whispers and then they faded. You weren’t sure what was going on, but you knew you were exhausted.
Those audible voices and sounds never lasted for long. You couldn’t feel pain. Every sensation within you felt numbed. A heavy fog filled your head and something clouded your vision.
You attempted to open your eyes every so often, but they didn’t budge. Someone glued them shut. Every limb tingled with tiny pins and needles. You didn’t know if this was death, but it didn’t feel comforting. Somewhere between the realm of the living and dead, doctors kept you in a medically induced coma.
How else could they heal the swelling of your brain? ~ ~ ~
“I can’t take this anymore!” Felix cried out. He shoved himself from the chair and pulled out his phone. “This is such bullshit! I’m tired of keeping this from him.”
“Well, we’ve tried. What do you propose we do? Tell him to get to the hospital without mentioning his significant other’s name?” Seungmin crossed his arms over his chest. “Good luck. We’ve tried everything and it’s been twenty-something days.”
“Actually, that’s exactly what we should do. How much longer can this go on for? This is pathetic, even for him! I get that he’s hurt, but look at them!” He reached over and gestured towards your bed.
You remained intubated and unmoving. The swelling in your puffy eyes faded a little more each day, but they still looked awful. The stitches in your lips disappeared, but a fresh pink scar remained.
Swirls of purple and blue smeared along your face. Broken bones reset and were on the mend. You were a living miracle. The first responders were afraid you wouldn’t make it, but when they pulled you from the wreckage, you continued breathing.
So he unlocked his phone and hit Chan’s contact name.
“Hello?”
“Chan?”
“Yeah?”
“You need to get to the hospital right now. Call me when you get here.”
“WHAT?”
“I can’t talk. Just call me when you get here.”
“Felix!”
He grimaced and hung up the phone. Seungmin shook his head and rolled his eyes. “You probably gave him a heart attack. He’s going to kill you when he gets here, you know?”
“That’s a problem for later.” ~ ~ ~
Chan flew from his apartment. His heart pounded in his chest and he couldn’t breathe. Losing you was hard enough. If anything happened to a member of his group, he’d never forgive himself.
“Come on, come on!” He fumbled with his seat belt in one hand. With the other, he swung his car door shut. In seconds, he jerked the car in reverse and slammed the pedal.
He lurched down the driveway, spun the wheel with a rubbered squeal, and shifted the car into drive. The engine roared and he sped down the road.
What-ifs grew stronger on the way to the hospital. His breath caught in his throat and he struggled to stay calm. Last he knew, everyone was fine so what happened? Who? How bad was it?
The moment he parked, he whipped out his phone and dialed Felix’s number. When Felix responded, his voice came out frantic. “I’m here! Where are you?”
“Room one-twelve. I’ll meet you half-way. I’ll see you soon.”
“Wait, who is-”
Click.
“Fucking hell!” He cried out. He grabbed the keys, sped from the car, and rushed towards the automatic door.
Everything was a blur inside. Voices appeared from the waiting room. The receptionist glanced over the front desk and eyed him, but she didn’t stop him. He glanced left and right and opted to go left.
The carpet disappeared beneath his feet and turned into squeaky clean white vinyl. An easy material to clean and disinfect daily. He rushed forward when he saw Felix appear down the edge of the hall.
The squeak of his shoes didn’t matter. He ignored the doctor he passed that told him to stop running. By the time he reached Felix, he grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him closer. “Who is it? What happened? Tell me!”
“Just, come on.”
“Felix!”
Felix didn’t budge. He grabbed Chan’s wrist and pulled him along. His chest filled with anxiety and his lungs compressed. When the pair appeared at the right door, Felix dropped his wrist and slowly pushed the door open.
He expected to find Han or Jeongin. A broken and battered Hyunjin or Changbin hooked to oxygen. This was the intensive care unit. This was for the severe cases. The patients that required a close eye and keen detailing.
Upon seeing you, his face fell. The bruising upon your face. The tube down your throat. Your lifeless skin and unmoving limbs. There was no sign of the life the two of you created.
No reassuring smiles, or laughter. Seungmin sat solemnly beside your bed in a chair. “I’m shocked that you finally made it.”
“What the hell happened?” He hurried to the opposite side of your bed. His hand reached out, but he didn’t touch you. Too frightened by your state, he didn’t know where he could touch without causing you pain.
“Try their hand,” an unfamiliar voice spoke up. He whirled around to find a nurse in blue scrubs. “Their hands survived the crash. You can touch their hands if you wish.”
“Sorry, I came in to get some vitals. It’ll only be a few moments and then I can leave you alone. Visiting hours are open until eleven o’clock tonight. I’ve never seen you here before, so I thought you should know.”
“How long have they been like this?” He whispered. Tears filled his eyes and his heart ached.
“Since the night you told them to leave your apartment.”
“What?”
“Felix!” Seungmin’s voice shot out sternly. “It’s not like that, Chan. Yes, the accident happened that night, but don’t beat yourself up over it. A driver of a semi-truck was speeding and couldn’t stop in time.”
“That was nearly a-”
“I’m sorry, hyung.” Felix’s hand appeared on his shoulder. “We tried to tell you, but every time we tried to utter their name, you were angry. We should have found a better way to tell you, but…” He trailed off, unsure of what else to say.
The nurse grabbed your vitals and disappeared to give the guys time with you. Chan collapsed to his knees and grabbed your hand with both of his. For nearly a month, you’d been stuck in this bed. He thought you’d given up on the relationship with him.
This entire time you haven't texted him back. Not because you were angry. Not because you were sad. Not because Dispatch’s rumors were true. But it was because you physically couldn’t. Intubated and trapped in a medically induced coma, you couldn’t reach out, even if you wanted to.
“I’m so sorry,” he croaked. “I’m so sorry, I-I thought that they-”
“Easy, hyung.”
“What did I do? What the fuck did I do? If I wouldn’t have kicked them out of the apartment, this wouldn’t have happened. I shouldn’t have been so angry. I should have let them explain.”
Seungmin shot Felix a look. He shrugged and gently rubbed Chan’s shoulders. “It’s not your fault, Channie. You were hurting and you didn’t mean for this to happen.”
He was supposed to be the leader. A strong pillar and an even stronger influence on his younger members. As the eldest member, he was supposed to be reliable. At that moment, he crumbled. Tears appeared in his eyes as a sob broke from his chest.
No wonder you had been so quiet. He called you once and hit your voicemail. He longed to hit the call button, just so he could hear your voice again. He squeezed your hand tighter and pressed it against his cheek.
“Wake up. Wake up, baby, please! Come back to me. I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I'm so sorry!”
Tears blurred his vision. He struggled to comprehend your mangled face. Your other hand sat wrapped in a cast. You must have been so broken when you arrived here. He wasn’t here to comfort you. He wasn’t here to try and console and cheer you up.
A wheeze fell from his throat. The betrayal slicing through his heart disappeared. This time, he felt like he was the one that had betrayed you. He hurt you in the most unimaginable way possible.
You laid here broken and half-dead. You spent hours fighting for your life alone. And where was he? Walking around your shared apartment drowning in his own self-pity. He’d never forgive himself for this.
“What is this?” He finally whispered after his sobs faded away. His throat was raw. His voice came out scratchy. “How bad is it?”
“The doctor said they should wake up at any time. They weren’t breathing on their own. A medically induced coma ensured to make sure their brain’s swelling could stop.”
“It was that bad? They’ve been suffering through all that alone?” His bottom lip quivered. He grew afraid of the response he’d receive.
“No,” Seungmin spoke up. “Jeongin found out first. He was the one that notified us. He said he tried to tell you, but when he showed up at your apartment, you told him to leave.”
Horror filled Chan at the memory. Later that same night, back when you left, Jeongin appeared on his front porch pale. Instead of hearing out the younger member, he told him to get lost and slammed the door in his face. Deep down, he was afraid to be viewed as weak in front of the younger member.
The memory stung his heart. Poor Jeongin just wanted him to know the truth and he slammed the door in his face. No wonder Jeongin seemed so nervous around him. He was probably worried that Chan would find out the truth and yell at him for not telling him.
He rubbed his face and pawed at his eyes. “So does everyone know?”
“Everyone besides you.”
“Sorry you’re late. None of us knew how to get you here. You’d never listen when we tried to talk about them.”
“I was such a stupid, selfish asshole.”
“You were hurting,” Felix corrected him.
“And a stupid, selfish asshole.”
“You were.”
“Seungmin!” Felix cried.
“No, I want him to know that he was. I’m not going to sit here and pity him. You were a jerk, Chan. I hope you remember this moment whenever you try to act like an asshole again.”
The words were a slap in the face, and yet he wanted to laugh. As harsh as Seungmin’s words were, they rang true. He was a jerk and maybe, in the cruelest way possible, this was his karma.
He opened his mouth to respond, but paused when your fingernails scratched at his hand. The tube in your throat caused you to choke. You couldn’t fully see as your eyes half-opened. Still swollen, your vision remained limited. Silhouettes appeared and voices became more distinct.
“Get a nurse!”
Footsteps hit the ground. You gargled and reached your opened mouth. “No, no, no! You can’t touch that yet.”
“Easy, love. Try to relax and don’t fight the tube. It’s breathing for you right now.”
The distress and quickened-pace of the heart rate monitor hit a hiccup. Chan’s familiar voice grounded you, but you still struggled with the tube. Your lungs wanted to expand, but the machine compressed them. You choked again, still fighting the pesky thing.
More footsteps. Another silhouette. Glasses on an unfamiliar face and latex rubbing against your skin. “It’s okay, you’re safe. I’m going to take this out now, okay? On the count of three. One, two, three!”
You gasped and coughed at the removal. Your lungs filled with air of your own accord. More coughing. You attempted to swallow, but your mouth was so dry. The lingering phantom of a headache filled the side of your head.
“Try a sip of this, sweetheart.”
The nurse’s tone was honey to your ears. You swallowed the water the moment it hit your lips. One swallow and then another. Two more and suddenly, you were gulping like crazy.
“Easy, or you’ll choke,” Chan gently reminded you.
The nurse pulled the glass away when you finished. “Do you know where you are?”
“Hospital?”
“Do you remember your name?”
“Chan?”
“I’m right here, honey. I’m here now and I’m not going anywhere. Do you remember your name? This nice nurse wants to help you get better. Your doctor is on his way.”
Every question asked, you answered it perfectly. A buzz of excitement swirled around the room from your consciousness. Seungmin and Felix left the room to give everyone the good news.
When the doctor concluded you were stable, he disappeared with the nurse. A silence fell between you and Chan. You still couldn’t see perfectly, but you could feel the weight of his hand in yours.
“Baby, I’m so sorry for that night.”
“I don’t want to talk about that night.”
“I was an idiot.”
“Dumbass,” you weakly corrected him.
“I see getting hit by a semi-truck hasn’t taken away your sass.”
“If I can survive this, I can survive anything.”
“I love you and I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, I love you and I don’t want to hear anything else about that. I’m so tired. Can you sing me to sleep or something?”
“If I do, promise you won’t die?”
“I promise.”
Even if you couldn’t make out his face, you knew his voice, and that was good enough for you.

People keep wanting a narrative of everything's rosy and getting better or things are bad and getting worse, and it's always a mix of things going on.
There are some things that have been getting worse (people who thought the Nazis were kind of cool actually in the 90's and 00's weren't nonexistent, but there were a lot fewer of them, in the US, college used to be something you could put yourself through, police have been getting more militarized, climate change has very much shifted from a thing that might happen if we don't change to a thing that is happening, and we still need to change.) There are some things that have been getting better. Both coexist.
Anyways, on the cool stuff front -- you're always going to end up with a negativity bias from the news, that's just how following the news is -- I remember the first time I saw a poster intended to combat homophobic bullying in an elementary school. It was this utterly sappy thing, they'd held a contest for kids to make the art for it, it was two men holding hands and one of them was holding a baby, it just. You didn't. You just didn't.
Sorry. Words. For a long time there was this association that you know, being gay and being a pedophile were probably related, you know, that it wasn't safe to let gay men be around kids. There were teachers and stuff who lost their jobs. Anyways, I grew up in San Francisco, so, pretty queer-friendly, but there was still this idea that it wasn't quite appropriate to talk to kids about gay people, that it was too much like talking to kids about sex, it wasn't appropriate. There were some movies and stuff for adults with queer characters, but no mention at all in movies and TV shows and comics and so on aimed at younger kids, and if there was any mention in like PG movies it'd be homophobic or transphobic jokes. I mean, you could have Bugs Bunny crossdress, but it'd have to be played off as a joke, you know? (And I'm talking about homophobia against men mostly, but it's not like you saw lesbians in family media either.) So it just, it moved me in ways I have trouble putting into words, this completely wholesome and positive portrayal of Two Dads in an elementary school.
Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?
Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.
And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.
#this would have been around 2012 or so#so most of those kids were old enough to vote last year#huh#I don't personally have a sense that my activism has been effective#but some activism somewhere has been#and sometimes things get better whether there's a fight or not#and sometimes the things that get better are directly tied to things that got worse

Drive Me Crazy
Chapter Twelve
None of you are used to pack dynamics. Unlike then, it made you near feral. There's nothing more they want than to build you back up.
Lestappen X Reader
warnings: biting, injury, blood
Series masterlist
In a shirt too big for your body, you sat up in bed. There was a man on either side of you, keeping you safe and warm. You had never been so happy.
Max laid down first, arms behind his head as he waited for you and Charles to join him. Charles scooted down the bed, laying his head on his pillow. "Come on, Birdy girl," he said and patted the space beside him.
You laid down, wiggling around until you were comfortable. Even then, something wasn't right. You continued to wiggle, continued to be unhappy.
Max released a huff. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into him, halting your movements.
At your happy chirp, a grin grew on Charles's face. "You like that?" He asked as he brushed his fingers over your cheek and held you chin. "Can I kiss you, Birdy?"
Desperately, you shuffled closer to him. You pressed you lips to his, ass still pressed against Max as he held you. There was nothing sexual about it, laying against both of them at once.
It was easy to find sleep, nestled in the warmth and safety they provided. Your mouth was open, releasing tiny snores and a little bit of drool.
"Max," Charles whispered, watching to see if you wake up. You didn't, eyes firmly shut. God, you were adorable.
Max stared at him across the bed. His thumb brushed over your stomach absentmindedly. It must have been tickling but you didn't react.
Fast asleep between them, where you were supposed to be.
"She's perfect," Max mumbled as he stared at you. He was right, you were.
Max reached over and kissed Charles. It was only quick, neither of them wanting to wake you up.
They laid down on either side of you, holding you and each other.
***
Arms around you, closing you in. Too hot. Too hot. Too hot. You had to get away. You had to free yourself from whatever was holding you back.
Growls left your lips. You tried to open your eyes but they were clamped shut. You struggled and struggled and struggled.
Your throat vibrated with each growl. You had no control as your claws came out, scratching at whatever held you back, digging into someones skin.
Your teeth, long and sharp, sank down into flesh, drawing blood.
The thing before you cried out, but those cries fell on death ears. You shook and withdrew your teeth, ready to bite again.
Pain in your neck. Your eyes flew open as your body went rigid. "Birdy!" The person holding your neck shouted.
You went limp in their hold, unable to do anything but stare. Blood against flesh. It was a horrible sight, an even more horrible taste in your mouth.
Tears filled your eyes, hot and uncontrollable. This wasn't the first time you had been scruffed, not by a long shot. But you always had this same reaction. It always pulled tears from your eyes as you laid there, helpless.
Only, this time, someone held you.
"Hey, hey, hey," Max whispered as he released your neck. "You're okay, Birdy. You're safe."
You whimpered as you tried to regain control of your limbs. 'You were safe. You didn't need to lash out.'
Lips touched your shoulder. "You're okay, Birdy. Sweet, sweet Birdy."
You knew that voice. It brought you back to yourself. Max. It was Max. As soon as you released it was him, you withdrew your claws from his arm and released a whimper.
You didn't mean it. You needed them them to know that you didn't mean it.
The light switched on and you shut your eyes. Too harsh, too bright. "Shit, Charles," you heard Max whisper, but you couldn't bring yourself to open your eyes and investigate.
"It's okay," Charles said quickly. When his hands touched your face, you flinched away. "Oh, Birdy," he whispered.
Suddenly, Max sat up behind you. You curled in on yourself, as if you were trying to hide from them. But there was no hiding once the blankets were pulled back.
Max climbed out of the bed. "First aid kit," he said, voice hurried as he waited for Charles's response.
"Bathroom," he said and Max ran in the direction of the bathroom.
You dared to open one eye.
Blood. Blood everywhere. It ran down Charles's arm and dripped from his fingers. The taste on your teeth when you ran your tongue over them. Charles's blood.
Shuffling back, you fell from the bed. You has no control as your body changed, tearing your clothes as you because a wolf.
"Birdy!" Charles cried you were gone, disappearing into the living room. You ran into the kitchen and curled up beneath the table. Your face was hidden in the fluff of your tail as you whimpered.
A few moments later, the light overhead turned on. You stayed hidden, stayed quiet, hoped they would leave you alone. You did something bad and you needed to be punished.
"Birdy?"
Why did you agree to this? Why did you agree to put Max and Charles in so much danger.
"Birdy girl, where are you?"
A chair was moved out of the way as Max joined you beneath the table. His fur was just as soft as your own, no doubt brushed out by Charles.
You lifted your tail just enough to look at him. Sitting tall and proud, looming over you. You whimpered in submission and resisted the urge to role over and show your belly.
"Birdy," Charles called again. "Can you come out here so we can talk?"
Still, you didn't move. From under your tail you saw the beginnings of a bandage on his arm, red seeping through. All because of you. Your tail fell back over your eyes.
Max released something between a whine and a growl. It wasn't harsh, didn't send fear through you. He grabbed your tail between his teeth, not enough to cause you any harm, and moved it from over your eyes.
You looked up at him and attempted to move away. But Max moved his tongue over your head, smoothing down your fur. He curled himself around you as he continued to groom you, to soothe you.
"I know you didn't mean to do it, Birdy," Charles whispered as he moved a chair out of the way. "You're not used to sleeping in a bed with other people, are you?"
You shook your head and Max nudged you, pushing you closer to Charles. You went willingly.
"I never should have pushed you so far, Birdy," he whispered and reached out to smooth out your fur. Wet from where Max had been grooming you. "This is all my fault."
'No!' You wanted to cry, stepping towards him. 'No it's not your fault, Charles!' You sat yourself in his lap and settled your head on his chest, hoping that told him everything you wanted to say.
He scratched under your chin and your tail thumped against his leg. "You wanna stay as a wolf for a little bit?" He asked and you tried your best to nod your head. "Okay, Birdy girl."
Charles hummed as he held you. He scratched under your chin and behind your ears, his laugh filling the kitchen when your tail started moving. You couldn’t help when you tail went around and around like a propeller on a helicopter, giving away just how happy you were.
"Wanna move somewhere more comfortable, Birdy?"
You climbed from Charles's lap and followed him into the living room. Max walked behind you, the vigilant wolf watching over and protecting his pack. Even with Charles still human, the pack instincts felt natural.
As soon as Charles sat down and switched on the television, you jumped onto the sofa with him. Your instincts took over as you walked into a circle and settled down on his stomach.
He didn't complain with your full weight on top of him, didn't complain when Max joined you. He settled behind you, curling around you. It was a tight squeeze, but you made it work.
"Putain oui!" Charles cried as he flipped through the channels. He landed on one of the Harry Potter movies, you couldn't tell which one. "My favourite," he explained and scratched behind your ear.
You tried to watch it, you really did. But Max was asleep beside you, snoring gently. The sound wasn't as annoying as you expected, the rise and fall of his chest comforting against your furry back.
The three of you fell asleep with the television turned on. Still on the sofa, you slept against Charles with Max behind you. At some point in the night, both you and Max turned back, but you wouldn't know until you woke up.
a/n: sorry for the long wait! i've had this in my drafts for a week, but its been a WEEK

re: this post.
thinking about idol!reader who's a part of the nation's fastest rising girl groups. your group is reaching international levels of recognition, and your agency is running a tight ship. you all have roles to play, and none of you are allowed to deviate from it. as the youngest member, you've been branded as the epitome of innocence; the nation's very own precious angel. what this means is that you're kept on a tighter leash than everyone else. you're not allowed to be seen at clubs, not allowed to be seen out late, not allowed to wear revealing clothes. the media says you (and your other group members) are living the dream. you smile brightly and agree.
it's all a lie. besides the tight leash, there's financial abuse. growing up poor and not being the greatest at school, you picked up a part-time job. at first, to help with your grandmother's debt, but then you started spending it on after-school academies that would help you hone your singing and dancing skills. you spent so much time and money on traveling to auditions and participating in festivals, and finally, you get scouted. when you initially sign on with your agency, you know practically no one in the industry. a young, naive girl whose only family is an elderly, barely-there mentally woman. you're the ideal recruit. you unknowingly sign an exploitative contract where most of your earnings and rights to your image are signed away to your company. you overwork yourself because you need to maintain your position, on top of the outrageous expectations the company has for you. at the peak of your career, everything starts catching up to you. despite being famous and beloved worldwide, you're still in debt and barely getting paid. you live a restrictive, lonely life. your health is in shambles, and during a concert, you faint. this marks the beginning of the end.
it feels like no one is on your side. when you step back from the spotlight, taking the hiatus your agency pressures you to, you try to piece yourself back together again. it might be lonely at the top, but when you're at rock bottom, everyone avoids you like the plague. except for character. pro athlete character who's the only person in this industry who knew you before the fame. the two of you grew up in the same low income neighborhood back when you were kids, but his family ended up moving. he came to your group's first meet n greet, you know. he recognized you; came just to see you (he's always liked you). you pretended not to recognize him because your company doesn't allow personal connections they don't approve of, and with your life + the fact that he has his own fame to handle, you don't want to drag him into your mess. that's one of the last times you ever see him. except now he's texting you after you basically ghosted the world, and maybe, there really is someone on your side after all.

Super quick thoughts on how each of these players would respond to some guy being handsy/creepy towards you in a bar
Quinn Hughes
Quinn's not the most possessive or confrontational guy, he's pretty chill in general, but there's one thing he'll never tolerate and that's you being disrespected. He's not stepping in when the guy who's been eyeing you all night starts to try and get handsy with you because he's staking a claim, he's stepping in because he knows you're uncomfortable, because he can see that the guy keeps ignoring your words to him, the way you shoo him and shake your head. The way you tell him you're taken and not interested. It's the disrespect that has him stepping up because no one can get away with disrespecting his girl, just not happening.
He's casual about it, just shoves his way casually between the two of you, a light shoulder check to the guy who has to take a step back, he's almost confused by how casual it is, like he doesn't know what to do. Quinn turns his back to the guy, and focuses on you instead. The blatant disregard for the other man a signal all of its own.
"Hey, baby, you ready to go home?" You latch onto him so quick, head nodding in confirmation before he's ushering you calmly out of the bar like nothing ever even happened.
The truth is Quinn might not start fights over you, but he doesn't need to. He commands a room pretty easy and makes himself known and clear without the need to throw a punch. Who's going to try and challenge the very well known face of the Captain of the Vancouver Canucks in his own city? Half the bar would be on his side in an instant, lost cause for the other guy.
Jack Hughes
He's gone for five fucking seconds. He only went to go get your jacket from your friend so the two of you could leave, expecting that you'd be fine for the short stretch of time if he left you by the door. When he comes back some fucking asshole is leaning over you, invading your space while you practically try to burrow into the wall behind you.
He doesn't really think fucking twice when be taps Timo on the shoulder as he passes, a little head nod in your direction, before fully body checking the guy off of you. It takes one hard shove with his shoulder, a full contact whole side shoulder to hip shove, but the guy goes flying into a table, someone's beer flying all over him while Jack pushes his hair back out of his face.
"The fuck you think you're doing?" He's bolshier than he normally would be for a couple of reasons; 1) he's had a couple drinks, 2) Timo is stood behind him like a fucking brick wall, and 3) his girlfriend does not get treated like that by some random bum in a bar.
It doesn't actually matter if the guy wants to fight him or not, cause Jack wants to fight him and he's deliberately provocative until a punch is thrown and he has an excuse to swing back.
Later you'll tell him off for not leaving it and he'll spend the night marking your neck up all pretty in purple and red hickeys so the next guy knows better than to even look at you.
Luke Hughes
Luke likes to think he's a guy with a pretty cool head, he's not a fighter and he's not overly confrontational...although guys seem to want to fight him all the time because of his height. That's made him pretty good at defusing tension and avoiding fights, a skill he had to learn the moment he grew past 6ft. So when he sees the guy next to you at the bar start to lean into your space, he watches for a bit, trusts you to handle it.
You try to, he can see the way you shift away, the way you tell the guy to back up, that you're not interested, but he just doesn't seem to get the hint. It's when you physically put a hand up between the two of you and shove him back that Luke realises he's got to step in.
He's more of a redirection kind of guy, then a throw a punch kind of guy, so he's got his hands on your waist gentle lifting you off the stool and onto the next one, taking your space instead. Suddenly the guy has to lean around him to talk to you, but Luke's already striking up a conversation about the guy's Chiefs jersey and before you know it Luke's managed to extricate the two of you without even a raised word.
The only sign that anything untoward had even occurred was the tightness in Luke's shoulders as he leads you away, the preparedness to take that extra step if he has to. But, fuck he hates fighting, so he'll always try to make sure you're safe and comfortable without it if he can. He's gotten pretty good at it.
Clayton Keller
He's always got his eyes on you whenever you go out, it's a given. No matter where you are, no matter how many people are around he knows where you are and always has one eye on you to make sure you're okay, that you're comfortable.
Normally he'd be the one going up to the bar to get a drink for you, but he'd gone to the toilet and you must have gotten thirsty and decided to just go grab a drink yourself. When he finally see you at the bar, you're leaning as far away as possible from a guy clearly leering down at your breasts in your dress.
You're unable to get particularly far, trapped between the man and the bar top and Clayton doesn't really think twice about storming over. He barely thinks before shoving the guy hard enough to dislodge him from his position over you, sending the guy stumbling.
Clayton puts himself between you and the man, glaring at him despite being the shorter of the two. It doesn't really matter to him, this guy looks like he barely goes to the gym and Clayton spends all day every day playing an intense physical sport. He can fight. He's not shy about it either.
If they guy doesn't back up then Clayton's always ready to throw a punch for you. You're his girl and you don't deserve to be treated like that. By anyone.
Kiefer Sherwood
Kiefer's not shy about getting in another man's face for being a creep. It doesn't matter if it's you being treated like that or some random woman he doesn't know. He spends most of his days on the ice, shoving guys into boards and throwing his gloves down on the ice. He has zero qualms about it then the douchebag in the bar tries to grab your ass on the way past.
The moment that hand snaps out to grab you, Kief's hand is grabbing the guys wrist and wrenching it so far back he hears a pop, letting it drop. He doesn't back down when the guy's friends start to get up, doesn't back down when one of them throws a punch, just rolls his sleeves up and gets to work after gently pushing you out the way towards your friend.
The truth is he comes away with a busted lip, some stitches in his brow and another missing tooth he's going to have to pay to get replaced, but he'll do it again, any time, because you're his girl and even past that you deserve to be treated with respect as a human. No one has the right to just touch you like that, not even he has the right to do that without your permission.
So yeah, you can wear what you want, do what you want, cause Kief can fight.

got this stupid idea in my head of jason being the "cool older brother" who teaches tim and/or damian how to smoke a joint, but with the caveat that "this is a sometimes thing and if you get your dumb ass addicted to anything i can and will send you to rehab at gunpoint or, failing that, execute you myself"
#mine#batfam#jason todd#tim drake#damian wayne#me? properly tagging posts instead of just talking in them? heresy!#(i want batfam friends please talk to me)#this is partially based on my mom literally giving me weed but threatening to fine me $1k if i so much as touch a cigarette#(i'm 25 and this has been a standing rule since i was about 8)#like ik he's got a 'no dealing to kids' rule but also i feel like weed could be an exception to that#just. the idea of jason not wanting to fall to the addictions he grew up around while also having chronic pain or smth#and the only effective nonopioid treatment he's found is weed#and it's also a situation of 'if you're going to do it i'd rather you did it where i know you're safe'#but the only way he knows how to show affection is death threats

I know Eve is straight but god damn, talk about a character that is catnip for lesbians. As a trans butch dyke I hope I give off half as much lesbian energy as this cis straight girl 😂
Jokes aside your comics are something special and they really fill such a special place in my heart. As someone who grew up on Calvin and Hobbes, Foxtrot, and many other newspaper comics it's such a joy to get to read a comic that is so familiar and relatable and funny. You're doing an amazing job and keep up the incredible work ❤️
Thank you! I adore the comics you listed and it's amazing to just be compared to them:)

The spousal person and I chose each other when we were 18. We're 44 and 43 now (I'm seven months older than him which I'm sure scandalizes antis, like I could roll over on my own while he was still a fetus so clearly I am preying on him) and we are still very happily monogamous.
Here's the thing though.
We're both autistic, neither of us grew up religious (well, the spousal person went to Catholic school K-8 but he never believed in it), we both lost a parent before we met (my father died when a month after I turned 7 and his mother died when he was 17, a few months before we met) and on our first date when we were 18 we both agreed that we did not want children and that we cared more about being happy than about outward markers of success and status.
Now 25 years later we don't have kids but we do have a lot of cats, and I often tell him that my dream is for him and the kitties to be happy and he says his is for me and the kitties to be happy. :)
We got married when we were 21, in a drive-thru chapel in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. No rings, no fancy outfits, no guests, nothing like that. Just paperwork and then driving around to the window for the officiant to say the official words, lol. I didn't change my last name.
I've been learning more about autism lately and listening to the Autistic Culture podcast and things, and maybe it's the autism, I don't know. Neither of us really understand conformity or social pressure. Neither of us are real good at socializing long term with other people. We like our routines and our rituals. We're comfortable with each other and very much not comfortable around strangers. Dealing with other people is A Lot for us.
The main thing though is that it was all completely our own choice, from the moment I emailed him and asked if he wanted to hang out without our other friends to now, when I am sitting here with a cat in my lap and he's in the kitchen making a dinner that we both talked about and chose, and then we'll eat it while watching two kdrama episodes that we talked about and chose.
Also I get really confused about things I see on here about marriage and relationships with dudes, because I don't recognize any of what the haters are saying. The spousal person does all the housework except vacuuming. I don't do all the emotional stuff. We take care of each other and support each other. He's really cool and fun and I love him more than the universe and when we're watching a kdrama and something funny happens and he laughs and I look back at him and I hear his laugh and I see his face....it's the most beautiful perfect experience in existence and I want to be near him for always.
But if you didn't choose it, if you felt pressured into it by society or religion or family, if you don't even like the person you're building your life with, if you don't support each other and you don't talk and you don't feel free to be yourself and you're just performing to please some weird external Other....yeah, I can see that being awful.
If what you really want is monogamy and lifelong commitment, you absolutely cannot force it on an unwilling pseudopartner. Domination is not commitment. Abuse is not commitment. Performing to please an external other is not commitment.
To me commitment isn't hard at all. It's the easiest thing in the world. It's just hanging out forever with my most best friend who is also the coolest cutest human to ever exist in all possible realities.
But based on what I've learned about other people since I got internet access...it's not going to be easy if you can't accept yourself for who you are and if you care more about conformity and social status than your own happiness and if you haven't taken responsibility for your own emotions and you aren't willing to work on healing your own trauma.
And if you do work on healing your own trauma and take responsibility for your emotions and get comfortable with who you are and with respecting other people as their own unique self and you find that what you want is polyamory or being single or whatever, go for it! That can be commitment too, to a steady set of multiple partners or to yourself and your own integrity.
I don't know. I think the point is that domination and abuse and forcing others never works and never results in long term happiness, no matter the number of people involved. You gotta respect the autonomous selves of others if you want mature committed relationships, of whatever kind.
Gotta stop here because he says dinner is ready. :)
everybody talks about men in trad marriages having affairs with their secretaries but it’s worth noting a lot of women back then had side pieces too. you can force a woman to submit to you legally but you can never force her to love you or maintain fidelity against her will. you can get rid of no fault divorce and get rid of abortion but you can’t get rid of fun.

Stan shook his head, chuckling as he hung up the phone. Geez, if he hadn't put a stop to that he was pretty sure his nephew was going to overheat and explode like one of Ford's old computers. Speaking of, he should probably make sure the fire extinguisher down in the lab wasn't expired if Ford and Dipper were gonna be messing around down there the rest of the summer.
Eh, that was a tomorrow problem. Dipper was still up in the attic with Mabel unpacking for another summer in Gravity Falls. Hopefully that meant Stan had at least twenty-four hours until the nerds started blowing stuff up. Mabel and Dipper's parents had seemed surprised the twins wanted another summer with their Grunkle Stan. After all, they were teenagers now, Stan couldn't blame their parents for expecting the two of them to want to spend a summer with kids their own age in California rather than an old fart in the middle of the woods. Well, two old farts, but their parents didn't know about the second one. Besides, Ford would probably object to being called a fart. He'd probably complain that's not the proper term Stanley, if anything I'm an old flatulence.
Stan shuddered. Man, he musta been on that boat with his brother for too long.
"GRUNKLE STAAAAAAAAAN!"
Speaking of the kids. Stan grunted as he hefted himself out of his armchair and made his way up the stairs toward the attic. There hadn't been any sound of breaking glass before Mabel's call, so he figured he could take his time getting up there. He heard a loud thump, a groan from Dipper, and a loud giggle from Mabel. Okay, maybe he should walk a little faster.
"There you are!" Mabel called. Stan stood in the doorway, staring at both of his niblings sprawled out on the floor, a half-rolled poster laying between them and a hammer still clutched in Mabel's hands.
"Dipper's trying to hang up this poster, but he's still not tall enough. I tried climbing on his back, but I guess he still hasn't gotten his puberty muscles yet." Mabel scrambled up and ran to Stan, holding out the hammer in front of her. "Can you do it?"
"I do too have muscles," Dipper grumbled, sitting up. "But no one can expect to hold up the forty pounds of sequins on your sweater and your giant head!"
Mabel stuck her tongue out at her brother. Stan laughed and took the hammer from her, ruffling her hair.
"No sweat, Pumpkin. Let a real man take over." He couldn't ignore the way Mabel's smile grew wider at the nickname. It had been almost a year since Stan got his memories back, but it seemed any little reminder that he was recovering still made his family happy. It was weird, in a good way, to see people care about him so much. And if he made sure to call Mabel by her nicknames even more than her real name, well sue him.
"You could just get me a stepladder," Dipper grumbled, shuffling to his feet.
"Ugh, then I gotta walk all the way back downstairs," Stan picked up a bent nail off the floor. "I'll just get it over with now. Besides, then Mabel can whip us up some lemonade while I work."
"Ooooo can I make Mabel-ade?"
Stan shrugged. "Sure, knock yourself out."
The words were barely out of his mouth before Mabel was squealing and running down the stairs. In the silence, Stan shifted on his feet, giving Dipper an awkward sideways glance.
"I haven't...had Mabel-ade before, have I?" he whispered.
Dipper smiled. "Nah, don't worry. That's a whole new horror you get to experience first hand."
Stan chuckled. "Right." He made his way to the wall, squinting at the wooden beams to try and figure out where he could safely sink a nail in. It's not like the place was structurally unsound, but he also hadn't had any sort of building inspection in uh...ever.
"So," Dipper started. "Why'd you want Mabel out of the room?"
Stan smiled. "Perceptive. Good job, kid." He lined up the nail on the beam that had the least amount of termite holes. "You're not in trouble, just wanted to warn ya. Speaking of 'puberty muscles', your Pops called. Apparently he thinks you still haven't had The Talk yet. He told me to keep an eye on ya and that he'd explain everything when you get home."
Stan slipped the edge of the poster under the nail, resting his elbow against the poster to hold it in place while he started hammering.
"Had himself all worked up over it. 'Oh Uncle Stanford, Dipper's a teenager now, he might start to get ideas'," Stan laughed as he finished hammering. "So just, ya know, when you see him pretend I didn't tell ya about the birds and the bees already or anything. Some dads get weird about that. Apparently, he wants to be the one to tell you himself." Stan put his hands on his hips and admired his handy-work. A little crooked, but what wasn't in this place? He nodded and turned to Dipper, who was looking at him with his eyebrows drawn together.
"But...Grunkle Stan, you didn't have that talk with me," he murmured.
"Ha! There ya go," Stan grinned, punching Dipper on the shoulder. "You're gettin' better at lyin' kid."
"But I'm not lying."
"Wow, I almost believed you that time!"
"No, Grunkle Stan," Dipper grabbed Stan's hand before he could leave the room. Stan looked down at Dipper and realized the boy's face had turned from confusion to distress. "You really didn't."
Stan frowned. "Whaddya mean I didn't? Don't tell me you forgot. I still remember having that talk with my old man." He shuddered. "Not the sorta thing you forget."
Dipper gripped his arm tighter. "How well do you remember having that conversation with me?
"Kid, you were making a face like I was about to pull your teeth out the whole time and you screamed, like, a lot. You couldn't even look at the diagrams in my Why Am I Sweaty? book."
"Grunkle Stan...none of that happened."
Stan froze. "But I remember it."
Dipper gently pulled the hammer out of Stan's hand and set it on the ground before grasping his other hand. "Have you...has this happened before?"
"Has what?" Stan could feel his heart rate picking up.
"Remembering things that aren't real."
"Alright kid, whatever joke this is, it isn't funny." Stan ripped his hands from Dipper's hold, rubbing them against his pants as his eyes darted around the room. An old habit. Looking for an exit.
Dipper held up his hands as if approaching a wild animal. "Stay calm. I can get Ford, maybe he can help figure this out. Maybe the memory gun just...um..."
"Just what?" Stan could feel his voice going shrill. "That gun was supposed to take stuff out of my head, not put stuff in!"
Dipper was beginning to look as panicked as Stan felt.
"Oh God," Stan muttered. "What else did it put in there. Dipper? What else isn't real?"
"This is the first time!" Dipper began to pace. "Unless...has Great Uncle Ford said anything? On the boat, did anything like this happen? This conversation?"
Stan shook his head, his breathing starting to feel funny. "No. But apparently asking me to remember stuff isn't exactly trustworthy - "
"He would have told me," Dipper said with certainty. "Great Uncle Ford would have told me if something happened. So it didn't. So this is the first time and, and, and, we can fix it! Right?"
Stan just stared at Dipper. They shared the same frightened eyes. For Dipper's sake, Stan nodded.
"MABEL-ADE IS READY! YOU WERE OUT OF CHERRIES, SO I USED MARBLES!"
Dipper and Stan glanced towards the stairs.
"Let's get you something to drink first," Dipper muttered, walking slowly towards Stan to take his hand again. "Then we can figure everything out."
"Sure, kid," Stan whispered. He didn't let go of Dipper's hand until they reached the kitchen.
***
They decided it was best not to tell Mabel. After all, it didn't seem like the sort of problem that the scrapbook could solve, and it wasn't worth causing her distress until they knew what they were dealing with. Instead, Dipper had been tasked with distracting Mabel while Ford and Stan commiserated in the kitchen. Stan really wasn't sure how good of a job they were doing of fooling Mabel. She had given him a weird look when he gave the kids money to go get ice cream in town. He couldn't blame her. He'd even thrown in a couple quarters so she could get sprinkles.
"Didn't Dipper mention some sort of brain scanner?" Stan offered. "I don't really like the idea of you poking around in there, but would it help?"
Ford shook his head. He was pacing the kitchen, hands clasped behind his back. "No. Project Mentem is broken. And even if I were to fix it, all I could do with it is see and or encrypt your memories. There would be no way for me to discern what's true and what's false since your mind interprets all of them as true." He stopped his pacing to take another swig of his Mabel-ade. Stan liked to give Ford grief about his coffee intake, but at this rate he'd be willing to let Ford have a couple cups of Joe if it meant he'd stop ingesting whatever sour, spicy, glittery drink Mabel was trying to pass off as lemonade. He was pretty sure Ford's eyes were starting to shake.
"So, you had no memory of this talk with Dipper until your phone call with his father?"
"Right."
"And when the memory returned, did it feel like the rest of them? Think hard, was there any difference in sensation?"
Stan shook his head. "Nope. The same sort of itch I always get."
Ford hummed. "Fiddleford told me once that some of his returning memories would get scrambled. Two puzzle pieces fitting together that shouldn't. For example, he swore there was a Christmas that I spent with him and Emma Mae, but it turned out he was combining his memories of Christmas with her with our own holiday celebration in the lab. Can you think of any other conversation with Dipper you could be mixing up? Anyone else you would have been having that conversation with other than Dipper? Perhaps your mind replaced your real conversation partner with Dipper?"
Stan frowned. "You think I just go talkin' about the birds and the bees with everybody?"
"Stan, just think."
He shrugged. "The only people I talk to who would even be young enough for that would be Soos or Wendy. There's no way I woulda given that talk to a girl, and I'm pretty sure Soos's abuelita woulda ripped me a new one if I had done anything to take away Soos's 'innocence'. I have enough self-preservation not to do that."
Ford nodded. "Alright. I feel comfortable with that reasoning." He took another swig of Mabel-ade. "However, then we're dealing with the more uncomfortable reality of the memory being completely fabricated."
"If you keep drinking that stuff, you're gonna start hallucinating too."
Ford's glass slammed down onto the table. "You've been having hallucinations?"
"No. I mean, not that I know of at least. Have I been?"
"Not that I've seen."
"Alright, then no."
Ford sighed and sat down in the chair across from Stan. He leaned forward, his elbows on the table and hands clasped together.
"I don't like hearing you do that," Ford murmured.
"Doing what?"
"Doubting your mind." Ford looked up to Stan, his eyes that horrible mix of calculating and pitiful that tended to appear these days.
Stan shrugged. "Why shouldn't I? We know I'm just making stuff up now. Heck, if Mabel didn't have pictures of all the crazy stuff we got up to last summer I'd probably think that was made up too."
Ford's eyes narrowed. "Hm. That might work."
"The scrapbook?"
"No, physical stimulus." Ford stood from the table again. "You said that when you had this conversation with Dipper you used a book to show him diagrams and such, correct?"
"Yeah. Why Am I Sweaty?"
Ford blinked. "You still have that thing?"
"Ma mailed it up back when she was cleaning out the house. She said she had a whole bunch of 'old science books' she thought her 'little scientist' might want before she donated 'em. I said I'd take 'em 'cause I was hoping some of them would be able to help with the portal. Turns out it was just a bunch of textbooks I stole from the high school and that thing. Came in handy though." Stan shrugged. "Maybe."
"Where is it?"
"If it wasn't destroyed it's probably still in my office. Why?"
Ford left the room without a word, coat billowing behind him. Stan took the opportunity to dump the rest of Ford's drink down the sink. He had a hunch he was about to have the full attention of a scientist on him for awhile and he'd prefer if that scientist wasn't vibrating like a beehive.
"Here we are!" Ford announced as he entered the room. "As I was saying, a physical stimulus might -" he stopped, staring at his glass. "My drink."
Stan shrugged. "I got thirsty."
Ford squinted at him. "Hm. Try looking through the pages of this. Maybe it will help ground you."
"But, won't that just make the fake memory more real?" Stan asked, flipping through the pages. The Pituitary Gland.
"That!" Stan shouted, pointing at the diagram. "Dipper screamed at that!"
Ford frowned. "That seems unlike him."
Stan groaned, dropping the book and putting his head in his hands. "I know but...I swear I can see it Ford. It feels so real."
Stan could hear the sound of Ford getting out of his chair, and there was suddenly a tentative hand on his shoulder.
"We'll figure it out, Stanley," he said softly.
"I just don't get why my brain would choose that memory to make," Stan mumbled through his hands. "Not that I want a buncha fake memories, but I could have at least come up with something cooler. Like winning a prize fight or kissing a mermaid or something."
Ford chuckled. "Well, I - " he was interrupted by the sound of the Shack door slamming open, frantic footsteps racing toward the kitchen. Stan lifted his head from his hands, leaning back to adopt a more nonchalant position in his chair. Ford gave his shoulder a squeeze.
"Grunkle Stan! Grunkle Ford!" Mabel burst into the kitchen, two small paper cups in her hands. "The ice cream lady said I could have two free samples, so I got two old people flavors! They're melted, but you can drink them. Who wants Butter Pecan and who wants Rum Raisin?"
Dipper shuffled in behind her, Mabel's enthusiasm waning as she took in the tense atmosphere of the room.
"What's wrong?" she asked hesitantly. "Do you guys not like those flavors?"
Stan turned to look at Ford, who had that pinched look around his eyes again.
"Mabel," Ford said gently. "Maybe you should sit down. We have something to -"
He was interrupted by a scream. Mabel had dropped the ice cream cups on the floor, leaving two splats that Waddles wasted no time in beginning to lick up. Stan sat up quickly in his chair.
"Sweetie, what - " before he could complete his sentence, Mabel had grabbed Why Am I Sweaty? and hurled it through the open kitchen window.
"Die childhood killer, die!" she shrieked. She stood huffing for a few more moments, eyes slightly crazed, before straightening up and looking towards the floor.
"Awwww piggy cream!" she cooed, squatting down to pat Waddles' head.
Dipper was the first to break the silence. "Mabel...what was that?"
She glared at Stan from the floor. "An evil book. Is that why you wanted us out of the house? So you could trap us with that horrible book when we got back?"
"You know that book?" Ford asked.
Mabel shuddered. "Ugh, unfortunately. Why do you even wanna read that thing again? It's not like it's hard to forget. Unless..." she frowned. "Were you...showing it to Grunkle Ford? Grunkle Ford, do you not know where babies come from?"
"No, I am well acquainted with a variety of human and alien reproductive systems." This time it was Stan's turn to shudder.
Ford reddened. "Not like that!"
"Wait, Mabel, you read Why Am I Sweaty?" Dipper asked. He looked to Stan, who was beginning to look green around the gills.
"You're the one I read that to?" Stan asked hoarsely. "But that's...that's not for you! I thought I read that to Dipper, you're telling me that I read that to...What?!"
Mabel slowed her petting of Waddles, beginning to look sheepish. "Well...you didn't know it was me. You thought I was Dipper."
Stan's mouth hung open. "Are you telling me my brain was swiss cheese before the memory gun?"
"Ohhhhhhhhhhhh," Dipper groaned, slapping his hand against his head. "That was during the whole carpet thing wasn't it."
Mabel nodded.
"Carpet thing?" Ford asked.
"Yeah," Mabel began to scritch under Waddles' chin. "That carpet from your secret room. It made everybody switch bodies. I was Dipper for awhile and he was me. Soos was Waddles and Waddles was Soos!" Mabel grinned, holding up Waddles to stand on two legs. "Just look at this adorable little former handyman!"
"I was also Waddles," Dipper admitted. "A lot of people were a lot of people. McGucket tried to eat Soos."
Ford frowned. "Soos as Waddles?"
Dipper and Mabel shared a look.
"Never mind all that," Mabel offered, smiling tightly. "Let's talk about why Grunkle Stan and Grunkle Ford were talking about puberty. Do old people do it twice or something?"
Ford pinched the bridge of his nose. "We weren't talking about puberty, we were talking about a memory Stanley had of discussing puberty with Dipper. Which Dipper thought wasn't real. Now we know why."
Stan raised his hand. "I would now like to pivot the discussion to Ford not leaving his experiments lying around where small children can find them."
"Wait!" Mabel gasped. "Does this mean that Dipper hasn't had the talk yet?" She leapt to her feet. "Because Mom gave me the girl one when we got home last summer! Does this mean I know the girl one and the boy one and Dipper knows none of them?"
Dipper sighed. "Mabel, I've seen nature documentaries."
Mabel whooped. "I know more about something than Dipper! Like, an actual science thing!"
"Mabel, I still know about - "
"Oh yeah?" Mabel reached into her skirt pocket. "Then what's this then?" With a wicked grin she slapped a bright pink wrapper covered in stars onto the kitchen table. Stan slapped his hands over his eyes. Ford's face went slack. Dipper grimaced.
"Mabel...I share a bathroom with you, I know what a pad is."
Ford cleared his throat. "They certainly," he coughed. "They certainly have changed a lot in the past thirty years."
Mabel frowned. "Were the old ones in black and white?"
Stan groaned. "Can we skip ahead to the part where Sixer burns that carpet and we all celebrate that I'm not actually losing my mind?"
Mabel wrapped her arms around Stan, pulling him into a big hug. "Of course! I'll go grab the lighter fluid!" And with that she fled from the room, snatching the pad off the table as she went. Stan lifted his head from his hands and the three Pines men stared at each other awkwardly.
"Well," Ford clapped his hand back on Stan's shoulder. "Another mystery solved."
Dipper nodded. "Sorry to freak you guys out like that. I don't know how I didn't think about the whole 'body swap' thing earlier."
Stan hefted himself up from the table. "No sweat, kid. Er." The three of them turned to the window where Gompers could be seen chomping away at the pages of Why Am I Sweaty?
They turned to each other. A silent agreement was made. Stan grabbed the popsicles out of the freezer and they began to file out of the kitchen, ready to meet Mabel at the fire pit to send that carpet back to Hell where it belonged. If there was anything they'd learned from last summer, it was that some knowledge was best left hidden.

Found - Dad! Choi Seung Hyun/T.O.P & Idol! Teen! Reader
Summary: Growing up you always had one best friend, your mom, especially after your dad had left you before you were born. So what happens whenever a new career path ends your life-long search for your Appa?
Warnings: None that I can really think of, but if I miss one please let me know lovelies!
Translations:
Ttal-a : Daughter. An informal way for a parent to address their daughter.
You grew up being your mom's best friend, after your father had left her before you were born, it only left the two of you to take care of each other. You were an amazing daughter in your mother's eyes, always doing more than what was asked of you, even if it meant giving up something you wanted or needed.
Even through all of it, you were still weighed down by a question you had for so long, you couldn't remember a time where you didn't have it. It was basically what formed you into the determined person you are today, Who was the man who helped make you? What did he contribute in making you? Did you have his eyes? Or maybe the facial structure you had never been able to match to any of your other relatives on your mother's side. You had so many questions, that you'd always be grounded for asking, so you devoted your free time in trying to find that man, determined to find out everything about your father's family, I mean, they were your family too, right?
Your search would become severely delayed whenever you confidently signed on to an Agency to become a new idol, hoping that it'd come out at least a little successful. It wasn't a secret you came from a rougher side of the city, a small home, with broken floorboards, barely livable, but you did what you could to make it safe for your mother, especially with her worsening health. You'd spend days at a time, training at the agency, if you weren't in training, you were recording and rehearsing for your debut album, and if you weren't doing that? You'd be in meetings with different staff members, if not that? You were doing whatever you could for your mom.
As you'd start to grow in fame, your fans would take notice to certain similarities between you and another Idol, you'd be honored by their theories, with your style of music really ranging, it mainly had one common variant in each song, your ability to rap, being able to rap over 10.13 Syllables per second. The way they'd constantly swear T.O.P from BigBang was a long lost brother, or father, would always charm you, you'd look up to the rapper, especially with him basically setting the bar for any and all K-pop rappers, it was an extreme compliment for you to be compared to him.
You'd never meet T.O.P until your manager would pull him into your first stage rehearsal, it'd be three weeks before you first show, so everybody on your team was stressed, especially whenever you and your chorographer couldn't figure out what you'd do while rapping one of your verses. With rapping, it took a lot of air out of you, especially trying to keep your pitch and keep up with the backtracks, so you couldn't move much, if you'd jump around, run, or dance, you'd surely run out of air before the verse ended, but you also couldn't just stand there. "Y/n! Our little Aein! This is T.O.P, I'm sure you know of him, he's going to help your little problem" YG would cheer, introducing you both before disappearing again into the hall, most likely going to check on other idols and trainees. "Hello, you can just call me Seung Hyun, it's a pleasure to meet you, I've heard you in the studio before, you're rapping is crazy" He smiled, laughing a bit as you both bowed in sync with each other "Nice to meet you! I'm y/n, but you know that" You smiled softly before backing up slightly as your choreographer took over the conversation, as you watched the two converse, you couldn't brush off the feeling of familiarity towards the man, but you couldn't quite place it.
You'd end up spending almost three more hours working on the rest of your choreography, finally calling it quits whenever Seung Hyun spotted you asleep against the wall. He was impressed, for such a young teenager, you were determined to make waves in the industry, yes you were only 17, but you were ready, your kindness and professionalism winning over YG and the others, almost immediately.
You'd barely remember getting home, as you woke up in your own bed, glancing around before you made your way out to the kitchen hearing your mother talking with somebody over the phone. As she finished her phone call, you tiredly sat at the counter, resting your head on your hands as you yawned. "That was your manager, he said you're doing well with your fans" She smiled towards you, handing over a plate of breakfast as she sat next to you "I know! They're so amazing, and they keep coming up with these awesome theories about who my dad might be" You smiled, not noticing her disgusted look, you never understood why she wouldn't ever talk about your father, other than to bash him, and to remind you that he left you, and she stayed. "Some people think it's rapper, T.o.p?" You added on, smiling softly as she looked at you confused "Who would ever name their child, T.o.p?" She asked, her tone dripping in annoyance and disgust "Well, that's his stage name, his real name is Choi Seung Hyun" You replied, jumping slightly as her hand slammed against the counter "That name will not be spoken in my home!" She screamed, you quickly stood up, going to apologize, only to have interrupted by her pointing to the door aggressively. Getting her message, you walked out of the front door, confused, standing there for a moment before pulling out your phone.
You weren't sure who to call, it was still pretty early, but you needed a ride to YG's agency building, walking that far would be damn near impossible to do, especially with you needing to be there, in about 32 minutes. As you held your phone to your ear, you sat on the curb anxiously picking at your socks, only now realizing, you were still in nightclothes and no shoes, but if your Umma wanted you out, who were you to argue? It'd be disrespectful as a daughter if you did. "Hello?" You heard a deep sleepy voice call through the phone, you were hesitant to speak at first, only whenever you realized he might fall back asleep, you spoke "Hey..Um..It's Y/n, are you free?" You asked nervously, hearing the older male sigh, you started to regret calling him, why not call YG? He might've been able to help. "Y-Yea yea, what's..what's going on?" Seung Hyun tiredly asked as he rolled out of the bed, running a hand over his face as he tried to wake himself up more "So...I think my mom might hate you.." You whispered, leaning your head down to rest on your knees "I brought you up..and she kicked me out..I don't know how long for- and! I'm not asking for a place to stay, I-I just..need a ride" You rambled, your anxiety starting to build whenever you heard nothing in reply, it took a moment for Seung Hyun to wrack his brain; maybe that's why your last name sounded so familiar. "Who's your mom?" He asked as he started to get dressed, not planning on leaving you to walk to the agency building. "Y/m/n l/n" You replied, pulling your nightshirt tighter around you as the morning rush started to pick up more, you could hear Seung Hyun's small huff through the phone "I'll be there in about...ten?" He replied, not really replying to your answer before the phone call was cut off. Why were both him and your mom acting so strange? Did they have something going on together?...was he..?
It would be six weeks of you both getting to know each other and picking up on each other's similar habits between you both, there was just something so familiar about each other, but neither of you could place it. Seung Hyun felt a connection towards you, always wanting to make sure you were on the right track, you had everything you needed, and you were protected; You felt almost the same, you just felt calm and safe whenever you were with Seung Hyun, it wasn't that you didn't normally feel safe, but you knew if you needed anything, even if it was a pretty rough situation, you could always call him for help. Your new friendship only fueled fan rumors that Seung Hyun was your father even more, especially with how you interacted during the family concerts, your manager would hold after your debut.
After a while though, Seung Hyun took notice to the fact, you'd never really do what you wanted, he never saw you doing any hobbies, or anything really other than work and favors for others. So, one night he'd find you in the recording studio, sitting at the table as you scrolled on your laptop, groaning loudly whenever you hit another dead end. You were getting so close to giving up, starting to believe maybe your dad just wasn't there out, or at least, wanted nothing to do with you. "Hey...What's going on? Need help?" He offered quickly, taking in your pissed off state, you reminded him of your mother, he'd still be oblivious to the fact he was the person you were looking for, instead, only knowing himself as one of your mother's exes. "No, No. I'm um- working" You rambled, scrambling to close your laptop, turning your attention towards him as you sighed "Working, yes, I am also working then- stop lying and tell me what's up" He replied sarcastically before his tone turned serious as he sat down next to you. "Fine, but you can't..tell anybody" You huffed, opening your computer back up to show him everything you had found out so far from your grandmother and aunt about your dad "I just..want to find him, and I know it probably sounds weird and creepy, but I just-" Seung Hyun cut your rambling off by coughing slightly "It's not either of those things, you're just a kid who misses a parent" He replied, scooting closer to read over what was presented on the screen. Seung Hyun had to hide his nervousness as he read further down the list, as he got to the end, he started to do the math in his head, feeling his heart drop slightly whenever he started to get a feeling maybe your mother wasn't entirely truthful about their break-up.
Seung Hyun did his best to stay calm for the rest of the night, not wanting to give you any false hopes, especially with the way you were speaking of your hopes of one day finding him. The next morning though? He was already out of his home as soon as the sun came up, making his way towards your old residence, you now happily living in one of the dorms at the agency building. Whenever your mother ended things with him, she had told this elaborate story about how she was too old to chase around a K-pop idol, being almost five years younger than her, he believed it, not really thinking much of it. As he knocked on your mother's front door though, he started to heavily question her story, which caused frustration to start growing inside of his body. "Hell- No! Get out of here!" Your mother shouted loudly, glaring daggers at Seung Hyun as she huffed, not wanting to accept the fact her almost 18-year-old lie was finally busted. "Y/m/n. We need to speak about Y/n" He demanded, ignoring your mother's protests as he entered the familiar home, it had severely fallen apart since he had been here last, but everything was still in its original place. "Y/n is my daughter. only mine! You have no right coming into my home! You- You disrespectful-" Seung Hyun was quick to cut your mother off with a harsh glare and a scoff "I don't care if I'm disrespecting you! Unless you were unfaithful while we were together- you know as much as I do, That poor kid has grown up without a dad, because of you" He snapped, standing in his spot next to the door as your mother stepped closer, poking his chest as she stood on her tip toes to get in his face "No! Because you weren't capable of being a father! It's your fault! You were young and immature!" She shouted back, hatred dripping from her tone as Seung Hyun took a step back, laughing sarcastically "How could you possibly know, if you never let me know you were having my kid!" He shouted back, freezing whenever he heard the door next to him open "U-Umma?" You whispered, standing in shock as you stared at the both of them, was he serious? You could tell by their shocked and scared facial expressions; you had finally found out the truth. "Y/n.." Seung Hyun started before you took off back out of the door, needing a moment to wrap your head around the information overload you had just received. "Just let her go, she needs time" Your mother huffed, glaring towards your dad one final time "Get. the fuck. out" She snapped, glaring at her in return, Seung Hyun quickly rushed out, calling your name as he tried to spot what way you went.
You'd be walking down the street whenever Seung Hyun would find you, again, your face bright red from the cold wind, and your cheeks stained with tears. Why was your mom acting so hateful lately? Why did they both hide who your father was? Did Seung Hyun know the entire time? What was Seung Hyun saying about not knowing? You were pulled out of your thoughts by a car door shutting, and quick footsteps behind you. "Y/n! Y/n! Would you just stop for a moment!" Seung Hyun demanded, you quickly halted in your spot, slowly turning around to face him "I-I really don't want to talk to you or my mom right now, I'm sorry" You replied softly, feeling bad for saying it, but you just continued on your trail, only stopping whenever your father grabbed your wrist gently "At least get in the car, and get a ride to, I assume, work" Seung Hyun pleaded, he felt terrible for what you were going through, absolutely terrible, but he was also in a whirlwind himself, he was a dad? He had been a dad for the last 17 years? Does that make him a bad one, for not being there?
You'd sit in silence the entire ride, only speaking again whenever Ji-Yong slowly made his way into your recording studio, a place you found yourself being in a lot. "Hey..kiddo" He whispered awkwardly, not really knowing how to start the conversation, you just sighed, turning in your chair to face him. "Seung Hyun told you?" You asked, pulling your knees to your chest as you watched him take a seat on the sofa in front of you. "He told me his feelings. How he feels terrible, that he wasn't there for you, but I don't think it's his fault" Ji-Yong stated, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees as he waited for a response. "I don't..know..How can you just not know you have a whole child?" You asked, you still weren't sure how to process your situation, you just felt hurt and confused at the moment. Ji-Yong nodded at your words, taking a moment before leaning back against the sofa "I know it's hard to hear, but he really had no idea, kiddo. I know my hyung, we've been best friends for..well forever, and I know if he did know about having a daughter, he would've done everything for you." He explained, getting choked up by his own words as he remembered how hurt and upset Seung Hyun looked whenever he busted into their shared dorm. "I just don't understand why my mom hid it from me, and even then..who says he wants to be my dad? I'm almost an adult now, a-and I mean, I'm not exactly the best crayon in the box, so why would he?" You rambled, hugging your knees tighter around you, as you felt tears building in your eyes; You had always imagined how it would be, if you finally met your father, but now you were just scared. What if he didn't want or like you as a daughter? What if all of those interactions between you both were just pity? Or something he had to do for work?
"Y/n. I couldn't tell you why your mother hid that from you, I'm sorry..but I can't, kiddo..What I can tell you, is that you are amazing, you're not even an adult yet and how many times have your songs been on the top five? But I think the rest of this conversation, should be with you and your father, I can only tell you so much about how he truly feels, he can tell you better than I can" He whispered, nodding towards the door, you took a deep breath before standing up "I-Is he mad at me?..for not talking to him?" You whispered, pulling the sleeves of your hoodie over your hands nervously, Ji-Yong just shook his head smiling, noticing how much you reminded him of your father.
You slowly entered the BigBang dorm, and into the bedroom, your eyes quickly meeting your father's as you froze, taking in how utterly broken he looked. His hair was a mess, eyes bloodshot from tears, along with his cheeks being tear-stained. "I-I'm so sorry" He started, you just quietly walked over, hugging him tightly, trying your best to hold back your tears as you felt him sob against your shoulder. "I don't blame you..and I'm not that mad at you..but I know you figured it out the other night" You whispered, trying your best to get him to stop crying, you hated it, you hated anybody crying, your biggest goal in life was trying to make others smile, so crying was the exact opposite of what you wanted. "You didn't have a father" He whispered, hugging you tightly, still in disbelief that he had a daughter, an almost adult daughter at that. "I was a pretty good Oppa to myself" You joked, trying yet again to get him to laugh, only proving slightly successful as he stopped crying, not wanting to pull away from the hug yet. "You shouldn't have had to be a father to yourself, or take care of yourself and your mom, I-I should've been there" He whispered, pulling away from your hug for a moment to have you sit next to him at the end of the bed, wrapping his arm around your shoulders gently as he hugged you again "You hug a lot, you know that right?" You laughed, trying to lean away from him, only for him to pull you right back into a hug "I have to make up for seventeen years of hugs, and 'I'm proud of you'- Oh my god! Am I proud of you? So much! I have one of the biggest Idols as my kid! I'm going to brag about that to everybody!" He rambled, causing you to smile softly, your mom had hated the fact you were an Idol, yes, she loved the benefits that came with being an Idol, but she hated everything else about it, so hearing someone close to you was proud, made you want to cry now.
You both sat for what felt like hours, just talking about everything he had missed in your early years of childhood. Eventually you both ended up at his home, him insisting you ate a real dinner, instead of the same cheap pack of noodles every night. As you sat at the kitchen island, you watched as he started plating the food "Do you know why...Umma hid who you were? Why'd you leave? Was it me?" You whispered, tilting your head slightly, wanting to know exactly what the two of them were arguing about, whenever you had walked into your mom's house. "Your mom had her reasons..they weren't very fair reasons...but she had them, As for leaving, I did, but I didn't at the same time, your mom ended things, telling me it was about my career, turns out, it was because she didn't want to share such an amazing kid with any other parents" He explained, not wanting to bash your mother, especially not to you, while he despised your mother for what she had done, he wasn't going as low as talking badly about her to her daughter. "You don't have to lie..I heard you guys through the door, partially" You protested, watching him drop his head in shame with a sigh "She didn't think I was capable of raising a kid" He whispered, hating that he was even talking about the topic with you, frustrated you just shook your head, smacking your hands down on the table "That's so stupid! I wasn't even born yet! How would she know!?" You shouted, standing up as you started to pace the kitchen floor, running a hand through your hair before Seung Hyun stopped you by grabbing your hoodie sleeve gently, pulling you back over to the counter "I agree, I agree, but it's time to eat, so get to the table" He laughed, motioning you away as he followed behind with two plates, and his glass of wine.
After dinner, you were laid sprawled out on the living room floor, Seung Hyun sitting a few feet away on his couch "Please don't die in my floor" He laughed after a moment, watching as you turned your head to look at him "I will die wherever I please, but I might just sleep here" You huffed, moving to slowly climb onto the couch, the meal Seung Hyun had made was absolutely amazing, one of the bests you've ever had. "I don't care if you sleep here, I've got a sofa, or a guest bed, or you can take my room, and I'll take the guest bed" He offered, pointing to each door as he spoke, you just laughed shaking your head "I'll take the guest room, it's your house, and you're like..an old man" You joked, laughing softly as he gave you an offended look, standing up to make your way to the guest room, feeling like you'd fall asleep any moment, you stopped to look back at Seung Hyun. "If it means anything...I think you would've been an awesome Appa..I think you're already an awesome Appa" You whispered before offering him a soft smile, your dad had to hold back tears as he smiled at you softly "It means the world, I think you're an awesome Ttal-a, Y/n" He replied, his voice cracking as he resting a hand over his eyes for a moment, trying his best to hide his tears. "I know" You giggled before shutting the door behind you, moving to lay down on the most comfortable bed, you had ever touched.
As you fell asleep, you contemplated how you were going to talk to your Umma again after this, or even what you'd say. You didn't let yourself think too hard though, falling asleep rather quickly as you heard your father's muffled voice from the living room, most likely on the phone with someone. As you fell asleep, you noticed something you hadn't ever felt before, when falling asleep, you felt comfortable, with no worries, knowing the only thing you had to deal with tomorrow was work. Your life-long search was finally over, yes it hadn't happened how your younger self always pictured, but you wouldn't change it, and you definitely wouldn't change who your Appa was, because for once in your life, you were happy with the answers you had gotten.

pairing: matz x reader au: 9th member | idol genre: fluff word count: 1 k summary: hongjoong and seonghwa had begged for you to perform matz with them once. Why not give in on the first day of tour. warning(s): none
"Please, you'll be so great on the track with us!" Hongjoong begged, his hands on your waist as you looked at Seonghwa for help.
Seonghwa chuckled at the scene, amusement twinkling in his eyes. You were all still buzzing with adrenaline and nerves, having just landed in Europe for the next leg of your tour.
"Ah, I'm not sure Atiny would like that I—"
"Atiny have been dying for you to be on 'MATZ' since it came out!" Yunho shouted from across the room.
You huffed, shooting a glare at Yunho, who quickly looked away, feigning innocence. Before you could argue further, you felt Hongjoong’s lips pressing gentle kisses along your neck, his grip tightening slightly around your waist, making you blush as you squirmed.
"Fine, I'll join the track," you sighed, feeling the heat in your cheeks. "Just for the first night. Nothing more."
Hongjoong cheered in victory, pressing a quick kiss to your lips before rushing toward the bed. He grabbed his laptop in a frenzy, already refining the lines for the three of you.
Seonghwa stepped closer as you sent a message to your manager, letting them know you'd be joining the track. His hands found your hips, gently pulling you toward him. You looked up, meeting his gaze, and smiled softly.
"It'll be fun, princess. We promise," he murmured before pressing a lingering kiss to your lips.
You hummed in response, already feeling more nervous then before. Surely, nothing would go wrong right?
You fiddled with the long coat, the thick fur itching against your skin as you forced an uneasy smile at your stylist. They were making the final touches to your hair, adjusting a few strands before stepping back to assess their work.
Your eyes wandered around the room, scanning for any sign of Hongjoong or Seonghwa. The anticipation in your chest grew—whether from nerves or excitement, you weren’t sure.
"Stop fiddling with the coat, please, Ynie. We know it's not the most comfortable, but—"
"Can I take it off on stage?" you interrupted, shifting uncomfortably under the heavy fabric.
The lead stylist pursed her lips, considering for a moment before finally nodding. "I don't see why not…"
Before you could respond, Hongjoong and Seonghwa appeared at your side, their eyes trailing over you from head to toe.
"You look hot," Hongjoong remarked, a smirk tugging at his lips as he reached out to adjust the coat on your shoulders.
Seonghwa hummed in agreement, his fingers brushing against your arm. "The fur suits you… but I think it'll be even better when you take it off on stage."
A shiver—not from the cold—ran down your spine as they exchanged a knowing glance. Not wanting to give them the satisfaction of flustering you any further, you reached out and pinched both of them.
A pair of matching whines left their lips, Seonghwa swatting at your hand while Hongjoong pouted dramatically. Before they could retaliate, a voice called out from the hallway.
"You're on in five—move it!"
The three of you exchanged a quick look before rushing toward the stage, adrenaline surging as the roar of the crowd grew louder. The familiar intro of MATZ blasted through the speakers, and you felt a rush of anticipation.
Hongjoong and Seonghwa both leaned in to plant a quick kiss on your lips before they sprinted onto the stage. Their playful smirks and winks were enough to make your heart race, and you rolled your eyes at their antics, a small smile tugging at your lips despite yourself.
As the staff member gave you the signal, you quickly slid your sunglasses over your eyes, transforming into your stage persona. The familiar energy took over as the crowd's roar heightened. You stepped forward, the music thumping in your chest as you jumped into your lines, your voice steady and commanding.
Hongjoong and Seonghwa were right by your side, their presence electrifying as they moved in perfect sync with you. Their bodies swayed with the beat, encouraging you to push harder, faster, as the crowd went wild.
Every movement felt like fire, their eyes locked onto you, pushing you to own the stage. The bond between you three was undeniable—pure chemistry that had the fans chanting in unison.
You turned to Hongjoong, the lines "geokjeongmara mudae wiarae magnon bukkeureopgeneun an sara" slipping effortlessly from your lips. Without missing a beat, Hongjoong joined in, his voice sharp and full of energy as he rapped alongside you.
The two of you flowed seamlessly together, each word punctuated by the intensity of the music, creating a space all your own on stage. The crowd was deafening, their cheers reaching a new level as you both commanded their attention, feeding off the electric connection between you.
You turned to Seonghwa next, the three of you seamlessly falling into the chorus together. The energy was contagious as you synced your movements, the connection between you all electrifying the crowd. As you danced, the fur coat became unbearable—too hot under the stage lights—and you quickly shrugged it off, tossing it to the side.
The screams from the crowd grew louder, almost deafening, but you felt a rush of pride as you soaked it all in. The roar of ATINY was intoxicating, their energy feeding your own.
With a smile, you ripped your earpiece out, letting the sound of the fans' screams fill your ears. Your eardrums pulsed with each cheer, the bass vibrating through your chest as you relished in the moment. It was overwhelming, exhilarating—there was no feeling quite like it.
As the song neared its end, you, Hongjoong, and Seonghwa moved with perfect synchronization, rushing to your positions. Hongjoong and Seonghwa knelt below you, their eyes never leaving yours as you stood at the top of the stairs, the crowd’s anticipation palpable in the air.
You raised the microphone high, pointing it toward the fans, and the energy exploded as ATINY’s voices filled the arena. "Go go go go go!" they chanted, the rhythm syncing perfectly with your heartbeat.
With a final move, Hongjoong surged forward, pulling you into a passionate kiss as the song reached its climax. The crowd screamed, and in that moment, it felt like time stood still. The lights flickered, then suddenly shut off, leaving you all in darkness.
The audience’s deafening roar echoed in the quiet that followed, the intensity of the performance lingering in the air.
