Analyzing the new Deltarune previews
great nucking news we have been fed lately!!! As the title states, I’ll be analyzing the new previews and add some interesting information I’ve seen thrown around on the interwebs.
But first, some unknown music that I do not know the origin of: https://deltarune.com/assets/audio/results.mp3 , https://deltarune.com/assets/audio/baci_perugina2.ogg
Without further ado, let’s begin!
"After the dark night, the sun shines brightly."
This caption reminds me of Seam’s warning, which would fit in with the probably confirmed Chapter 3 dark world, since it was made during the night.
You don't want to get caught when the sun goes down...
As for the preview image, hoo boy is there a fuckton of interesting stuff. Just from Susie being in QC’s diner we can determine that, since Catti isn’t particularly fond of her, either she isn’t working today or perhaps they’re on better terms now likely because of Dark World shenanigans.
The NPCs here appear to be a froggit, Charles(most_improved_1997) with a now slightly longer hat, probably the lion waitress and possibly a version of this npc in the MTT resort with a different bow placement.
In the second image, though there aren’t as many characters or implications, we will got a neat bit of content. I’ve seen people speculate that this may be a minigame similar to Thundersnail in undertale, though I doubt Susie will light on fire if we encourage her too much. I’m still wondering why the rock looks like an onion. Another thing to note is the lack of rain which we later see in
this preview. The strangest thing here is the closed police station, that might have something to do with what will happen in the dark worlds. This (not new) monster is seen dancing in the rain, which I believe was foreshadowed in their sprite name (spr_npc_rainykid_0). Should we look at NPC names for future chapter predictions? Well, if we decide to do just that,
we’re going to have to confront the fact that this mole guy’s sprite name is ...
ANYWAYS, onto the dark world previews!
"This once empty town is beginning to feel like a city!"
‘Tis a nice callback to the beginning of Chapter 1, but the caption also slightly scares me. If Castle Town is indeed getting a lot bigger, I can’t imagine how much unique dialogue will have to be given to all of the NPCs...
Other than that, this is a pretty nice scene! Sweet and K_K (no Cap’n?) are performing along with Tasque Manager and a mysterious saxophone player. Their design appears to be obscured (but it would be kinda funny if it’s the real deal), but just from their silhouette we can see a few neat details. Their hat sort of resembles the doors from the Green Day preview, and they also look like Inspector Gadget. Also also, the deltarune symbol is on the drums. Koole.
(I can’t get the webm to work, sorry.) Queen is hilarious as always, Rouxls is pretending to be a lamp?, reminiscent of the lamp gag from undertale. The path to the right remains unexplored, something to look forward to in the full release!
https://deltarune.com/assets/images/update2022-dr-ch4-queen-v5.webm
And last, but certainly not least, is the only chapter 3 (based on the file name) preview.
"Relax and enjoy a world of cutting-edge entertainment!"
For some reason, I’m getting dystopia/utopia warning signs from this caption.
Ok, so a ‘green room’ is, according to Oxford Languages, “a room in a theatre or studio in which performers can relax when they are not performing.” This explains the vending machine, TVs, couches and silver platter in the middle. Still think the vending machine is a hint that there’s a big boss fight after this, like with snowgrave Spamton NEO. There are a lot of visible stars everywhere which is most likely based off Asriel’s side of the shared bedroom. Aditionally, the 2 couches appear to be inspired by the beds in that same room, the cut on the right couch could possibly be the dark world equivalent of the unidentified stain in Kris’ side of the room.
The left couch seems to have a similar look to The Sweater™ and has an L-shape(d hole). There’s also a thing with pairs of two here: 2 couches, 2 TVs, 2 large doors, 2 cacti. The doors actually appear to resemble a stylized M or perhaps a house. The wires at the ceiling might have something to do with Spamton NEO? I’ve seen that theory thrown around.
The storage(?) is particularly interesting; we obviously have swords on Kris’ (?) side, they could also be knives which would have some interesting implications for the dark world forms of light worlds objects. But what’s most interesting is that Asriel’s side has bottles of alcohol! (If you believe in the alcoholic Toriel theory, like mother like son, I suppose.) And a singular Maus which is probably the dark world equivalent of the actual computer mouse on his side of the room.
All in all, a pretty nice status update so we aren’t starving as much anymore. Scrumptious.

Thoughts on another take.
So, I’ve done my own takes on the Uninvited Guests and Game Over AU’s in an RP series I work on with some friends of mine.
Lately, I’ve been thinking of making my own take on the Trapped Souls AU, though it won’t involve Randy and Samson (The two main characters of the story) being reborn as Red and Solomon.
Instead, it will involve some more outer-lore.
Anyway, let me just cut to the chase here.
You know how some game cartridges have screws on them, so that you can get into them and see the ROM, SD cards, and whatnot?
Well, what if Zach (in my AU) got the ROM out of the cartridge, and he inserts it into his Computer, so that he can perhaps get more information about the origins of the cartridge, or more about the Transcendence Project?
When he does, a folder appears on the desktop of his computer, and it says "NES_Godzilla:_Monster_Of_Monsters.ggz." When he opens it, there's the audio for the game, the sprites, graphics, etc.
However, when he did some digging through the game's coding, he found a link to an external drive. He pastes this link into a search bar, and he finds an assortment of files and screenshots.
The first one is this screenshot of a bio about an employee that worked at Compile around the time of "Godzilla: Monster Of Monsters’” development. Which was back in the year 1988.
The employee's name was Randy, and he was described as somewhat of an outcast/introvert by his co-workers. And nobody ever really talked to him.
There was also an employee who was fired for going out of their way to make him feel ashamed or embarrassed for things he couldn't control, or weren't his fault for the most part.
(You may remember these details from the Trapped Souls AU Oneshot "Ignorance")
A co-worker who was close to him, named Samson, though he'd usually go by Sam, discovered that he was doing side projects with A.I., that didn't seem related to the game that was being developed at Compile during those couple months, due to their disturbing, and hellish nature. Though in fact, they were related to the game.
Which leads us to journal entries written by Randy himself, explaining these A.I. side projects he was working on during his free time.
Entry #1: September 19, 1988 - "Things didn't go well yesterday, I was worried how if anyone else found out about my A.I. experiments, that they'd tell me how what I'm doing would make no sense, or that I'd have to "get ahold of myself"...I bet they'd really begin to stop believing in me even more than they already are."
Entry #2: September 22, 1988 - "One of my co-workers had the nerve to tell me face to face that they think I'm an insane person, and that I’m r***rded. Thankfully, they were fired today. If they want to play games, then I'll play too. I'll show them insane. If it’s what they want, it’s what they’ll get."
Entry #3: September 23, 1988 - “No one ever believed in me from the start. Well...almost no one. People treat me as something to fear, an inhuman monster. They call me mad, sick in the mind. But I’m determined to show them. I’ll show them all. They’ll all eventually see. This A.I. experiment that I’ve been working on...it has to work. This A.I. I’ve created, I love him so much, he is very smart. He wants me to bring him into our realm, he says it will benefit both me and him. And so what if I am mad? Madness can drive the aspect of innovation, after all.
Entry #4: October 8, 1988 - “...They’re all after me, the things I’ve been seeing are in fact more real than I once thought. How I know this, you may ask? Red told me so, he can take over if need be. This has to work...”
The fourth entry was the last one that was discovered in this mysterious case, as the rest of the pages were either never written, or were missing.
This is all I’m going to post on this for tonight, though I will add some more to it tomorrow. So stay tuned, everyone.

Trans folx meaning. Inspired by the art of VixenTamer, I decided to make a side-scrolling/point-and- click game about Krystal Fox trying to survive within a tribe of SharpClaws. The goal was to create one character sprite that could be recycled into any sexual position - for easy and quick animation without having to redraw anything - thus more content, faster. Then the plan was to share my fla file, so that anybody could create their own animation with very little effort - thus even more content.
What ended up as a small project in hopes to create a decent amount of adult-flash animations, turned out to inspire an entire collaborative effort towards its completion: 'The Legend of Krystal Team' (LoK Team)
For awhile now the LoK Team has been working together to create what I believe will be a simply amazing Adult RPG flash-game (not just because its sexy, but because of its quality).
They haven't released what I have seen yet, but I promise you, it makes the original just a rough-sketch in comparison.

Stupid random theories, headcanons, and unpopular opinions of mine
Btw, these are all long so sit tight
My mangle theory :
I cant be the only one here who thinks that mangle was taken apart by little kids. It wouldn't make sense that little toddlers would be strong enough to pull apart a metal robot. That's because the kids didnt break her, william did. Mangle seems like he was an inspiration from funtime foxy because sister location happened before AND a lot of times, "toy foxy" is often referred to "funtime foxy". Due to this inspiration, mangle had the ability to record voices and things just like funtime foxy. Why am I pointing this out? Well, why would mangle randomly have static noises and a broken radio sound? It's her recorder, it's broken. He recorded many things and then recorded something that someone didnt want anyone to find out about. That someone would be William afton. William is always suspicious and doing evil things.Let's say that, oh idk, maybe William murdered someone, some person called the cops on him, (which explains the police messages n stuff in the radio) William killed that person and his the evidence of the murders. At least that's what he thought. Mangle was somehow recording the whole thing. William had no other choice but to take her apart and destroy him. But then William thought that it would to suspicious to have mangle be randomly broken the next day and so he fixed mangle up in way where it looks like shes fixed, but one tug hes broken and the kids are there to blame for. All of this might be a stretch I know, but apparently in one of the fnaf 2 minigames where theres a mangle Sprite, in the files or sources codes or WHATEVER IDK, there's a hidden message that says "he was here" or something like that. THAT CAN SUPPORT THIS THEORY errr headcanons? Idk I should go sleep lol
Micheal headcanon:
I always wanted to believe that Micheal was the older brother/Bully and that the bite victim was a different character. Why? Because I want more..character for Micheal. He went to sister location because he wants his torn apart family to be back together. He went to save Elizabeth and he never forgave himself for being the one to 'kill' his brother and all that failed. I wanted Michaels story to be exciting and emotional because of his past and the whole family thing
I also always liked to think that Micheal started working out to gain some strength before becoming a technician because he knows that the robots are strong and dangerous. That way things can be more action packed with Michael punching through pipes and walls, and holding back animatronics trying to grab him, and just...cool stuff
Fnaf headcanons:
Freddy has a nice deep voice and that's his real voice. When it comes to preforming during the day, he talks in his "family friendly" voice which is all goofy and fun (kinda like Patrick star's voice) The animatronics are a lot different on stage. It's as if they play as characters and they change their voices sometimes (like Freddy). Chica acts like this ditzy cute country gal, Bonnie is a laid back chill bon, foxy is just more ...pirate, and Freddy is a fun loving silly lead singer
Nightmarriones pupils change shape to Express his emotions. (Sad=tear drop pupils, sick=swirly pupils, angry=skull or fire pupils)
Lefty has his own voice instead of a whispery girly voice because he is his own character. He may look like the rockstars but he was made differently. The rockstars were built by some factory or company and they have advanced technology which gives em the ability to have emotions, personalities and to do tricks. Meanwhile lefty was built by henry in a shed or something. Henry only focused on programming him to find charlie and he had to make lefty look like the rockstars to blend in and not be suspicious. Other than that, lefty was a total rush job. Henry only wanted Charlie therefore, Henry didn't care to give lefty a personality, emotions, an EYE, or stablness.
In the afton family, the mother is sweet, kind, caring, and over protective while william is outgoing, silly, and isnt afraid to do anything (before he went insane). Usually kids have similar personalities to their parents soooo I like to think that Micheal is more like his mom but looks like his dad and that Elizabeth looks like her mom but acts like her dad. Why? Because I always saw Michael as a hero, he cares for others and he wants to save his family. He is sweet and protective like his mom. Elizabeth is rebellious and sassy. In the sister location mini cutscene with William and Elizabeth, she disobeys william to see baby and that's a rebellious move. Elizabeth likes adventure and crazy things so she wont follow the rules any time soon.
Funtime chica does all the rockstar's make up. When months pass by, the rockstar's paint would peel or chip and so ft. Chica would repaint their lipsticks, eye shadows, cheeks, etc. And they look fresh and new afterwards
Even though puppet and Goldie (and all the other animatronics) have been through so much shiz, they still try to keep their cool and enjoy life
In the rockstar crew r. Bonnie is the creepiest. Yeah, he seems chill and is self centered, he is the only rockstar who is most likely to murder someone if he's told to do so (this isn't counting ucn where they all kill). All on Bonnie's songs are so creepy and he sings about killing you in unique ways. Stuff like making slivers (or slippers) out of you, flaying your flesh, smashing your face into concrete, ending your life, and stabbing your heart with his guitar. He's definitely into gory stuff
Springtrap has two different personalities. Most of the time he's himself, spring bonnie. A kind fun loving bun who completely changed his personality after becoming springtrap. He is know constantly scared, upset, and afraid of Williams next move. He hates being an evil monster but it's not something he can control due to William still having control over him. When the slringbonnie side of springtrap gets mad or upset that's when hes weak and William takes control and becomes the evil side of springtrap. Springtrap is very aggressive and very strong. Slringbonnie tries to fight back Williams spirit, but as time went on and when the kids got sent free, spring bonnie got lonely and gave up which let William take full control over him. Sprjngbonnie is gone, its William now (which explains scraptrap)
Idk if this is a theory or headcanon but fnaf 1 bonnie is blue. Yes, he is known to be purple and everyone says and draws him purple but he's blue. Maybe it's the certain blue color he is but due to lightning it makes him look very purple. When he's in more darker areas, bonnie is very blue but when he's in the light areas, hes purple. Let's not forget how every single version on bonnie is blue (except for extras like spring springbon and bonnet etc.) Exept for fnaf 1 bonnie. That doesn't make sense if one of the originals would be purple but all the other versions are blue. One more thing, in the silver eyes, they mention that bonnie has blue fur ;) this was a dumb rant sorry
Shadow bon is evil and can shape shift cause hes a goopy shadow boy and shadow fred is his lil assistant
After fazbears fright burned down, William got to take control over springbonnie(trap) and roamed the streets at night. He roamed dark allies and probably killed whoever slighted him. It was a long walk but he was just trying to get to his destination, fred bears diner. Because of the fires, the springtrap suit was more ruined and unsturdy and so it was time for a change. Somehow William got out of the suit but he's weak without one so he picked an old spring bonnie suit, scraptrap. (According to the fnaf minigames there are multiple spring bonnie suits so that why spring trap looks different)
I got more headcanons but this post is already to long :p
My Unpopular opinions:
Am I the only one here who's not way into the whole Michael AI theory?? Like it kinda makes sense but at the same time, making a whole new robot son with advanced technology IN THE 80s does not give the fnaf-y feel?? Ya know what I mean? Like it doesn't fit the theme? Also the ai thing is in the books and the books are a different universe from the games sooo idk why matpat still connected them?? Hsjsbsjsjsn fnaf is just waaaaay to confusing. Also please dont get mad at me for this opinion cause matpats ai thing is just a theory, its not canon
Foxy isnt super great. Dont get me wrong, I love foxy and he's an amazing character but I don't get why he got so much attention and hype
Bonnet and lolbit should just be canon already. They're not canon characters but they're included in sooo many things in fnaf so might as well make em canon
Funko needs to make a fnaf 2 figure set where you collect t.chica,t.bonnie,t.freddy, puppet, one of the withereds or shadows and you collect them all to make a mangled mangle figure. I would DIE for a fully formed noodle fox figure, how cool would that be?
Scraptrap design is perfect. I know that we all make peanut and Jimmy neutron jokes but honestly I love his sharp teach, creepy eyes, AMazInG voice, and his stabby arm. Sometimes in some angles, he can look heck a creepy

Delta rune theories! (Spoilers)
Ok so I played delta rune over the weekend with my sister. There was a lot that happened, we talked a lot, and tried to make sense of what happened. I have three ideas/theories about the game. They can be seen as separate ideas on the game, but I believe all three to make the most sense when it comes to Deltarune.
Beware, Spoilers for Deltarune and Undertale ahead.
<b>Theory 1: Gaster survived the fall.</b>
-Gaster has prevalence in this game wether you realize it or not. In the beginning sequence of the game, the voice that's talking to you speaks in all caps. Thats how Gaster speaks as well, albeit he usually speaks in wing dings, but those are still all caps. So there is a certain connection between him and the game.
-Alphys and Undyne do not know eachother. At all. Our favorite lizard and fish couple have no idea who the other is. Why is this relevant? Well...Why would they be apart? What happened to make them never even have met eachother. And, including this....
-The amalgamates are dead. Or at least the monsters who made up the amalgamation are dead in Delta Rune, while in Undertale they survive to the surface under Alphys' care. They survived under her care. Under HER care. But here they are dead, so that, combined with the fact that Undyne has not even heard of Alphys (which she should have at least heard of the royal scientist if she is the royal guard) makes for a case that Alphys never took the position of royal scientist.
-Why do I assume it's Gaster? Because of what we knew of him in the original game. We knew he spoke in wing dings, that he was presumably the royal scientist before Alphys, and that he has some sort of relation to Sans and Papyrus.
-Asriel is there. Asriel is ALIVE and not Flowey the flower. Even Alphys couldn't bring Asriel back completely....but maybe Gaster could, who knows.....
-In the end, I think this is a universe where Gaster didn't dissapear/wasn't remebered, and remained the royal scientist. This means that Alphys never took the role, never met Undyne, and never gained the crippling depression from experimenting with Determination on monsters. Hense why Gaster's Twitter was the one to kick off this game, it's Toby's way of saying that there's a link between Gaster and Delta Rune.
<b>Theory 2: We are possessing Kris.
(WARNING! THIS INCLUDES MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE GAME! PLEASE SKIP OVER THIS PART UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED THE GAME ENTIRELY)</b>
-This seems pretty obvious when you combine a few clues from around the game. One of these clues happens to be the literal save file. When you get to the first checkpoint, before you save you can see someone's previous save. It's like when playing a used game, you save over the previous person's game. In Delta Rune, however, you're saving over Kris' previous save with your own. You're not Kris, at least, you're not saving as Kris.
-Dialogue in this game can come off as a lot of funny one off lines. And most of it is just funny one off lines, but there are few that have much more meaning, that reference things from the first Undertale game that only the real life player should know. Like pressing and holding X to run. Or even asking Undynr about Alphys. Kris has no reason to connect the two, as they don't even know about eachother. But we do, hense why it's an option in the first place.
-And lastly, the cherry on top, the ending. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so please, skip the ending if you do not want to be spoiled, I beg of you. Even if you're kinda like 'meh, it's fine, it's probably not that big of a spoiler', don't read, because it is a not spoiler for the end. You have been warned.
-Alright....In the ending it's made pretty clear you're.....not Kris. In fact, Kris strait up takes out the red soul (presumably YOUR soul) and shoves it in the empty bird cage. It is presumed that Chara (or whatever you want to call them in this AU) is working with Kris or possessing them instead. But after that point, you are no longer in control of Kris' vessel.
-here's something to support this from the first game. The talk Asriel gives you at the end of the pacifist run. He asks you to let frisk be, talking to you, the player, instead of frisk. There are a lot of fourth wall breaks in this franchise and it seems to be a staple of the game's humor. But it's a theme that isn't always taken lightly. Undertale and Deltarune are about choice of the player, and how we act when we seem to have no consequences. And how the game effects us. Not in a 'oh the fandom is toxic' sort of way, but more of how we react to the game directly.
-These themes and clues, especially in Deltarune, point to us being separate from the character we play as in these games. It also seems that this may be a point of major conflict in the future, or a continuing theme at least in the next game. (If there is one)
<b>Theory 3: Gaster sent us too (or made) the Dark World.</b>
-This is the hardest to explain and the most ridiculous of my theories. But something just...didn't rub me the right way when it came to the Dark World. For one, you just...appear there. From a supply closet. With no explanation as to why. The only thing slightly odd about this is the fact that before you and Susie enter the closet, the door and hall turns grey. This is significant because of the 'mystery man' sprite, an the grey door you use to find that sprite.
-speaking of doors, lets talk about the shortcut doors. Aka, Sans doors. They let you go to another door similar to it. Their distinctive pattern is having fire come out from the bottom, which sans' bedroom door has as well. Keeping the favt that Sans and Gaster have a connection, maybe this is something that Gaster made or put down in the world for ease of access.
-When you and Susie get back, you appear in an unused classroom. The important thing about this classroom being it is COVERED in game stuff. There's a checkerboard on the floor, chess peices here and there, even cards from different suites. Why is this important? Well most characters and enemies in the dark world are BASED off of these things. Lance and his father are based off the ace of spades and the king of spades respectively, there was a tale of four kings before the king of spades took over, you fight a friggin checker peice and have to run from pawns. Even calling the place a dark world could just be a reference to the fact that the lights are out. But this doesn't seem to be a game you were playing, as Susie seemed to be surprised to be in the classroom, and not to forget about you two falling down in the first place. It seems someone else set up the world or game, and brought you and Susie into it.
-Gaster is the one narrating your story. When you die, the all caps lettering, which I assume is Gaster for reason as stated before, speak to you. He's there at the beginning when you start your journey. It's his text, and he seems to be the one watching you.
-when you try to call home in the Dark World, you find you can't, and instead your call is just these weird garbled noises, also associated with Gaster. It's almost like he is intercepting your call.
-Why would he do this? To be honest? I don't know. We don't know enough about his character to fully say if he would or wouldn't do this. But he is connected somehow to this game. It was supposedly him on Twitter that premiered this game, it's his text narrating. There's something he's doing, and I think...well, I think he made a game to play in, or at least put us into a position to play it. What this means for the rest of the story, I don't know, but we'll have to wait and see.
Now for some questions of mine that I can't figure out.
-Where is Grillby
-How are Sans/Papyrus connected to Gaster
-Why was Gerson's grave included in the graveyard?
-Is Chara still around?
Thats all for now, have a good day!

Undertale & delta rune Sequel/Prequel/Post-Genocide/AU Theory
There seems to be a disagreement about what delta rune is in regards to Undertale. According to Toby’s Q&A that this is an alternate universe where choice does not matter. He also stated that Undertale and its characters had a happy ending and that nothing we do here can affect them. But there is still some discourse in weather the game is a sequel/prequel/post-genocide/au/some unholy combination of that. Strap in, I think it’s the last one.
To clarify, there will be four characters I will be mainly focusing on that the games seem to revolve around. I’ll be clarifying each one and how that character makes each of the “quells” possible.
Sequel: OK, this is the one that goes right into Meta territory. I think it is safe to say that in Undertale you were part of the story. Not Frisk, not Chara, you: the player. You are controlling the vessel in the game. This is backed up by how if you boot up Undertale Flowey calls YOU by the name you entered. Delta rune confirmed this by asking for YOUR name. You the player, and when you save low and behold, that is the name that gets put on the save file. Not Kris, your name.
So, we are controlling Kris for this adventure. That is why he ‘knows’ things that he couldn’t possibly know about characters that we know from Undertale. Like Alphs and Undine being together or knowing San’s even though both characters don’t know what we are talking about. Interesting enough Kris has information that we the player don’t have. When you go to inspect the card for the reindeer and he asks you why it looks like we (the player) have never seen it before. Also cute reindeer from class seems to be weirded out by the way Kris has been acting, so we the player are controlling Kris’s actions, not Kris himself/herself. Also, both in Undertale and in this game, right after cut scenes Frisk/Chara/Kris will turn to face the camera, right at you. This being an RPG maker game where you have control over what happens to the character sprites, Toby did this deliberately.
And of course where Chara directly interacts with you at the end of a Genocide run. AND Kris looking at you with a knife in his hands, throwing out his soul, the culmination of his being, the thing that we controlled him; is now locked away. And we can’t do a damn thing about it. My point is that for us (the player) this IS a sequel. The game that comes next. “Undertale 2”. The next point of reference that we can see and can control. Or rather NOT control as the narrative says: our choices don’t matter. That brings us too:
Prequel: Flowy tells us over and over again that “In this world it’s kill or be killed!” If we substitute the word ‘world’ with ‘game’ we (the player) can infure that in this game our choices matter. That depending on how we act we could kill or save anyone or everyone depending on our choice. Deltarune tells us up front that “in this world, your choice does not matter” that is telling us that in this game, evens will play out no matter what we do. One of the most frustrating parts about a prequel is that it is just telling you stuff that happened before the main event.
For example: in a story about Alfred, batman’s butler (I cannot frikking believe they are making that a movie) it does not matter what he does or who he met along the way, by the end of the film, he will become the character we know. We end up with a bit of predestination. Who will be our Pennyworth in this situation?
Sans. And possibly Papyrus.
In Undertale it is established that the two skeleton brothers just showed up one day. No other explanation was given and it was just sort of hand waved away. Later we got all the connections to Gaster and that lead to some speculation about this vague origin. Now, here comes delta rune. We see Sans outside of what is clearly a building representing Grilbies. And if you listen carefully HE SOUNDS DIFFERENT! His little ‘he he he’s are speed up from what we heard in Undertale. I think the Sans we hear here is younger, more fast talking. A bit more inexperienced, not seeming to know as much as he did in the old game.
There is this lovely theory going around that Sans is actually a Darkner. That does answer an obvious question I didn’t think about until then. Where is Sans moving from?? Answer: The Dark Word you just spent so much time getting out of, duh. (Papyrus not so much but?)
So we have his origin and possible timeline:
Born in the dark world ->
came to Hometown (possibly through the same door you and Susie got through...) ->
Something terrible involving Gaster AND Kris gets him sent to the underground in an alternate timeline/world ->
Undertale happens.
That’s how he knows that ‘kids like you, should be burning in hell’. He has already seen one world be shattered by one kid in a striped shirt go crazy and kill everyone. And that leads us to:
Alternate Universe: The tale of two Asriel’s. Or three possibly. Everyone is trying to figure out where the heck the beginning bits and the end bits ‘fit’ into the timeline. They kind of skip over the part where you are in a completely different game for the entire time, you know hello? Ralsei is one of the three party members for most of the game and is reveled to be a sort of espy for Asriel. Susie (and possibly Kris) seemed to understand this due the vast amount of “??????????????????????????????” she gives after he takes off his hat. We know that Kris has a brother named Asriel matching up with the one from Undertale (honestly I thought for sure that meant the ending of Hunger tale was cannon). With the bizarre way everyone in Hometown has a counterpart in Undertale why would there need to be a second Asriel?
Let me introduce what I think Toby is going to do here: enter the multiverse. Now it could be that delta rune and Undertale are alternate timelines instead of straight up different universe. For now though I will be treating them as different universes. We have three ‘worlds’ that we know of: Undertale, the light world, and the dark world. If I had to guess the dark world is somehow a reflection of the light world so they also have characters that are similar to Undertale counterparts, see The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds. The Light and Dark worlds also mirror of how the humans and monsters were on against one another. We should be on the look out for characters in the dark world that matches with the ones in the og game.
I had a thought that maybe Sans is the Dark world counterpart of Papyrus so that instead of treating themselves as they same person they decided to be brothers instead.
I do wonder who the ‘Knight’ is that Lancers dad was talking about though.
Most of the rest of my thoughts are me just trying to project without much evidence. Until we know how Gaster and his followers fit into all of this I don’t think we can get much more out of it. Buy this being bizaro world the last one is:
Post-Genocide: Chara you poor creepy child. As everyone knows, in a genocide run, you kill everyone. Chara eventually takes over and kills you the player. Even though Flowey thinks you are the sibling from his childhood. You are not. You are the player controlling the character. The evil came from you. The vessel might become Frisk once you decide NOT to kill anybody but then Chara comes back and kills everyone anyway.
Now, we are in an alternate universe. Where our choices (the players not Kris’s) do. Not. Matter. And there is no Frisk, only a child who is this universes version of Chara. He did not die like in Undertale so now we live in a universe where that less than happy kid grows up into a less then talkative teenager. Where is Frisk then? Did Frisk’s own reasons for climbing the mountain (as hinted at by Asreil at the end of the game) never come to pass? Did just straight up die? We don’t know.
And having us act like a kid that may not exist in this universe really doesn’t sit well with Kris and he throws his will (US!) is in the cage. We told him about stuff. We knew about the other Universe and how things were different. And how little Kris was actually a guy called Frisk and he was a happy person that made friends and talked to people and didn’t kill anyone. If you didn’t do the Genocide ending anyway. Then you were…Chara.
Yeah, that’s the ending of delta rune ch1 guys. We see Kris throw us into a cage and since we were controlling him, he knows about the genocide ending. Since we told him how, he knows exactly what to do. A normal (if creepy) kid got possessed by some beings from some weird dimensions and knows exactly what to do with them. Pulls out a knife from nowhere and smiles (the kids smile, not one we made ) and his eyes glow red like in a photo he has seen through our eyes. The ones he is looking into as the view goes black. He has seen the ending and he has seen us and he knows he can kill us. All he has to do now is to kill everyone else. And he’ll do it too, because we can’t do anything to help BECAUSE OUR CHOICE DOES NOT MATTER!
TLDR: All four theories are true. If we look at them from four different characters.
The player – It’s a sequel because it is what you play after the 1st game.
Sans – Prequel because this is the world/timeline he comes from: see quicker voice
Asriel/Ralsei * – Are both au Asriel because of light/dark world and might have further indications that we should look out for * and a bunch of other people
Kris – Post Genocide because we controlled him and now he knows that’s an option.
#i could have combined my 1 & 4 together oh well#undertale#delta rune#my post#theory#god lord this is long#long post

About Myst
Myst’s concept, at its most simple, is based on the ‘Mystery Man’ in the gray room whose entrance only appears in about 2% of game files created for Undertale. Traditionally speaking, the person you encounter in here is assumed to be Gaster, though there’s no actual confirmation of that given anywhere in game. The sprite’s filename is, after all, only ‘mysteryman’. Some canny observers have noticed that if you turn this sprite upside down, the black side of it also happens to look like a face, which is what I have based Myst’s design on.
(Just a brief disclaimer before the fandom jumps down my throat, lol, but I also personally assume that the mystery man IS Doctor Gaster. This was just a fun idea I had and ran with.)
[Character Information under the cut]
History: Dr. Myst was, once upon a time, a scientist in the Underground whose research focused on the theory of the universal wave function, and was often at odds with Dr. Gaster not just on the best way to free monsterkind, but for funding from the capital as well. Myst’s hope was that if the barrier in their own world could not be broken, perhaps they could simply go to an alternate one where the barrier had already been broken, or never cast in the first place. With options on realities being theoretically infinite, it was possible they might find a completely unoccupied world they could simply move into and make their own.
The Royal Scientist was unimpressed, but Asgore was intrigued enough to continue funding Myst’s work. Myst made progress by leaps and bounds, and when he finally finished his grand machine, he tested it. He tested it on rocks, then plants, then the various bugs and fish one could find around the Underground. He wasn’t sure exactly where these things went, but when they came back, they were always still alive, and so… it only made sense that he should be the first monster test subject.
‘The Gray Room’ was his masterpiece; built in waterfall, well away from anyone that might get hurt should something go awry, it presented only as a simple gray door from the outside. Within was a similarly simple, small, gray room that would react with glowing control displays only in his presence. It was minimalist, to say the least, but brilliant all the same. Rather than physically moving from location to location, the Gray Room phased from reality to reality; like an elevator between universes. It always appeared in the same physical location in Waterfall, though the world in which it manifested was completely different from the last.
When Myst used it for the very first time, it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, doing so had unforeseen consequences that not even he could have predicted.
It turned out that the universe did not much like people moving freely among its many realities. Or perhaps it was simply the Gray Room itself attempting to process too many variables and, in the end, deciding to reconcile them all into a single common denominator with which it could more ably contend.
Whatever the reason behind it, and however it happened, every version of Myst that existed across any and all realities were plucked from their timelines and combined into a single entity. He no longer remembers exactly what reality he originated from, and is now faced with the curious fact that he belongs both everywhere and...nowhere. Not only that, but the process erased all hint of him from every universe he’s traveled to. Granted, he was physically changed by the event, but even his name does not trigger any sort of recognition no matter where he goes.
His memories of life before first using the Gray Room seem to be primarily those of the version of him that created the thing. However, he gains the occasional flash of insight from the depths of the memories that linger beneath the surface, leftover from all those other versions of himself. It took him some time to figure this out, though once he realized he was unable to return from whence he came, he had all the time in the world to do so.
During his initial test of the machine, he had created a recall mechanism for the Gray Room, but now there was no one to press it. In fact, there was a good chance that because every trace of him had been removed from all realities, any evidence of his creation had vanished as well. It occurred to Myst, as time went on, that even if he were able to return to his world, the Gray Room was no longer a viable option for their escape, not without potentially causing tremendous damage to reality as a whole by tearing all of monster kind from its very fabric. Thus resigned, Myst travels from world to world, exploring and hoping to find some clue that will help him further refine his machine and allow him to transport people across realities without suffering the same fate as him.
Personality: Despite the many trials and tribulations Myst has been through since initially leaving his world, he remains a kind monster with a good sense of humor and impeccable manners. One thing he has learned is that a little patience, forethought, and flattery will get a person just about anywhere, no matter what reality they happen to find themselves in.
This does not, of course, mean his patience is infinite. When it does run out, he tends to snap pretty catastrophically and launch headfirst into a tirade of the sort to raze entire villages. It is only then, or when he is taken truly off guard by something well out of the realm of normal that he’ll actually start to swear. Otherwise, he’s far more likely to get creative with his insults when he feels a need to employ them.
Myst possesses a voracious hunger for new knowledge and is always a keen student to the willing master, no matter the subject. The sciences come easy to him, though he has resolutely pursued the arts as well out of a sheer pigheaded desire to be adept at those too. History is troublesome, however, considering how frequently he travels between universes, so he generally doesn’t bother beyond a general study of how small actions can lead to tremendous consequences on the geopolitical stage.
Diplomatic almost to a fault, unless you are close to him, it can sometimes be difficult to get an honest opinion out of Myst. He considers himself an observer, there to learn, so he’s generally unwilling to speak up overmuch or reveal his own thoughts on a matter. That said, in times of crisis, he can be prone to taking control of a situation without necessarily asking himself if he should. Myst always means well in these situations, believing he is doing what needs to be done for the good of all, but many often see it as being offensively high-handed for one who professes themselves to be an outsider. The habit likely stems from the fact that he is constantly on his own, and has long since become accustomed to solving his problems on the fly with no one else to lean on for assistance.
Trivia:
Myst’s magic is extremely powerful thanks to the fact that he’s essentially many souls combined into one, but it is completely unpredictable. Because different versions of him used different kinds of magic, they all try to come out at once, and he never knows what he’s going to get next. He could try to burn an enemy with fire and wind up healing them instead. As such, he uses it only in life or death situations where he has literally no other options.
Gravity’s grip on him seems to be erratic, though the why of this remains an unknown. If Myst becomes too distracted, he will start to float, or find himself walking up surfaces he really shouldn’t be able to. If he notices too abruptly he will fall. Years of practice, however, has allowed him to control this strange phenomenon to his advantage so long as he is in the right state of mind.
Uses duodecimal math in almost everything he does unless decimal serves better.
Has six fingers on both hands (which might be what inclined him to duodecimal math in the first place)
Statistically speaking, Myst is practically immortal. Every time he is killed, one of his souls is destroyed, as is his body. The remaining souls, however, reconstitute him over the course of about a day, which is useful, but extraordinarily painful. He also loses any memories that were linked with the soul that was destroyed.
Inventory:
Bottomless Bag - It’s not literally bottomless, but it is definitely bigger on the inside and capable of carrying a great deal of necessities and trinkets.
Leather Journal - A book that he carries everywhere with him to take notes on the new things he learns in every reality he visits. Also doubles as his personal diary. Seems to have an impossible number of pages despite looking like a normal book. He prefers using it to the many types of tech he has that could serve the same purpose since it is enchanted against damage and he doesn’t have to worry about it shorting out.
Invisibility Cloak - Not what the wizard that sold it to him called it, but Myst’s been to enough universes with Harry Potter to call a spade a spade. Only lasts for a few minutes at a time before having to recharge.
Weaponry - Because his magic is so completely unreliable, Myst has been forced to become adept in many kinds of weapon to keep himself in once piece without sticking out in whatever reality he happens to have landed.
Well that’s all I have for now! Feel free to drop an ask about or to Myst if you want to learn more about him!

W.D. Gaster Masterpost
(undertale spoilers)
Doctor W.D. Gaster is an enigma shrouded in mystery, with very little known about him. Despite the scarce amount of information, this character is a popular topic for many fans who are desperate to know who he is. After the January 2016 patch, more “fun” events became available in regular gameplay, driving more people to look for answers as to who Gaster is.
The following is a breakdown of facts, circumstantial evidence, and unconfirmed theories on Gaster. All technical information mentioned below is based on v1.001 of the game.
Facts
Before Gaster is discussed, three important characters should be considered -- the followers.
Facts about the followers:
There are three followers.
Their sprite names are spr_g_follower_1, spr_g_follower_2, and spr_g_follower_3.
Their object names in the code are obj_gaster_follower_b, obj_gaster_follower_a, and obj_gaster_follower_c.
Each follower has a very low chance of appearing.
Follower_1: fun value 62 and 50% chance = 0.5% chance
Follower_2: fun value 61 and 20% chance = 0.2% chance
Follower_3: fun value 63 and 50% chance = 0.5% chance
These are the only monsters that ever mention Gaster by name.
They share a monochrome gray color theme.
Two of them use the words “they say” in reference to what they know.
Frisk’s phone does not turn on in their presence.
Follower_2 disappears after speaking.
Since the followers are the only characters that mention Gaster by name, what is known as canon about Gaster is derived from their dialogue. However, because the followers speak in such a hearsay manner (e.g. “They say he created the Core.”), it’s hard to be sure how accurate this information is. With little else to go on, this information will be taken at face value.
Facts and hearsays about Gaster:
He was the previous Royal Scientist, before Alphys.
His brilliance was “irreplaceable”, which is why Asgore took so long to replace him.
He created the CORE.
His life was cut short.
He fell into his creation.
His experiments went wrong. (Yes, experiments is plural here).
He vanished without a trace.
He shattered across time and space.
A piece of him exists with Follower_2.
He is still listening.
Outside of what the followers share, there are a few more things known by special events in the game and by examining the code and assets.
From the game’s code, assets, etc:
Entering Gaster’s name in the character name screen causes the game to restart -- and it only happens with Gaster’s name.
The Sound Test Room in Snowdin has a 50% chance of being accessible at fun value 65 (after defeating Papyrus and before defeating Asriel in the pacifist route), and Gaster’s Theme can be played in this room. Once the song starts playing, the music cannot be changed. Eventually, the song ends and then Frisk is automatically returned to the room with the fishing rod.
Despite not having a battle, Gaster’s monster type identifier in the code is 666, and his stats are composed using only 6. (ex. HP of 666666)
Sans’ attacks, which bear resemblance to animal skulls, use six sprites called spr_gasterblaster.
An unused NPC field sprite called spr_gb_npc looks like the spr_gasterblaster sprites, but without a face.
The gasterblasters are used in the code’s obj_gasterblaster, which is used in the code’s obj_gasterbl_gen.
By editing the game’s save files, ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN can be found in an unused room. The code for this room is called obj_gaster_room, confirming that the entry belongs to Gaster. The identifier for the text type is 666, and the game quits after the last line of the entry.
Circumstantial Evidence
The following is a list of reasonable deductions based on clues provided in the game. Unlike the facts listed above, these theories are not confirmed directly. However, they have enough circumstantial evidence to make a strong case.
Gaster is the original creator of the DT Extraction Machine.
Alphys specifically mentioned “using the blueprints” in her lab entry 5.
Since Alphys used these rather than created them, it’s presumed to be from the previous Royal Scientist.
W.D. Gaster refers to Wingdings and Aster (two fonts).
Wingdings shares Gaster’s initials, W.D.
Because the room with ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN is coded as obj_gaster_room, Gaster has a connection to Wingdings.
If the W.D. refers to Wingdings, the name Gaster may refer to Aster. However, there is no Aster in the game.
Gaster is a skeleton.
Because Sans and Papyrus are named after fonts and are skeletons, Gaster is assumed to be a skeleton.
The Core was built before New Home.
Considering New Home is built above the CORE, it’s reasonable to assume Gaster built the CORE before the Royal Family moved to New Home.
Gaster may have a connection to the monster that appears in a room behind a gray door in Waterfall -- Mystery Man.
The sprites are called spr_mysteryman.
The object name in the code is obj_mysteryman.
At fun value 66, there is a 10% chance of this door appearing. That means there is a mere 0.1% chance of finding this door without hacking or cheating.
Frisk cannot collide with Mystery Man; they walk right through.
When interacted with, Mystery Man disappears, and the sound effect snd_mysterygo plays. It is the same one that plays for the disappearing Follower_2, who claims to be holding a piece of Gaster.
Unlike with the followers, the phone can be used, but there is no response.
Gaster may have a connection to the monster in an inaccessible room in Waterfall -- Redacted A.
Its sprite is called spr_redacted_a_0.
Its object name in the code is obj_redacted_a.
The room can be accessed by editing the game’s save files, but only after disabling dogcheck.
The monster is solid and cannot be walked through.
It disappears if Frisk moves away from it, and reappears if Frisk moves towards it.
This is the only monster that speaks in Wingdings, specifically all lowercase. Its only dialogue is “* [redacted]”.
The text sound used for Redacted A’s dialogue is the same one used for ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN.
Sans has a connection to Gaster
Sans uses gasterblasters in his battle.
Sans has blueprints with unreadable symbols in his secret lab. The narration remarks that it may be just the handwriting that makes it illegible, perhaps implying it belongs to Alphys who’s handwriting is described as illegible chicken-scratch. However, unreadable symbols could also mean Wingdings.
During his battle, when Sans sleeps, he snores in an unidentified serif font. This font was originally thought to be Aster, but further examination has proven this is not the case.
Popular but Unconfirmed Theories
With how little information there is and how hard it is to find, it’s easy for “fanon” to become so popular that it is misrepresented as canon. The list below is made of popular theories that are commonly misquoted as fact. This was not written to diminish the theories in any way; in fact, the reason these ideas are so popular is that they make a lot of sense and are not directly contradicted by evidence in the game. However, it’s important to know fact from fun.
“Mystery Man is Gaster.”
Because the followers, the Sound Room, and Gaster’s stats all share a pattern of 6′s, Mystery Man has an association with Gaster.
However, Gaster was said to have shattered. If this is the case, it doesn't seem right for him to still be intact as the Mystery Man.
It is more plausible that Mystery Man is a “piece” of Gaster.
Redacted A is the only monster in the game to speak in Wingdings, which makes it another candidate to being a piece of Gaster.
Dogbomber’s interpretation of Gaster was removed from the official tarot card merchandise, keeping his true identity a secret.
“Goner Kid is a follower of Gaster’s.”
Goner Kid is the gray monster kid that can be found in Waterfall.
Their sprites are called spr_mkid_goner -- it does not include the word “follower.”
Their object name in the code is obj_mkid_goner.
They have a gray color scheme like the followers.
However, Goner Kid appears if the fun value is above 90 -- not in the 60′s. This means there is a 10% chance of running into them.
Unlike the followers, the phone can be used in the room with Goner Kid to call Papyrus.
Goner Kid never mentions Gaster.
“Gaster was forgotten by everyone.”
Based on the idea that Gaster shattered across space and time somehow causes his existence to be forgotten. There is no mention of this, however.
There is also speculation that Gaster is talking through Goner Kid about how the world can be the same “except you don’t exist.” However, Goner Kid has no confirmed association with Gaster.
The word “forgotten” is never used to describe Gaster.
His followers remember him.
Nothing indicates that Asgore forgot him, especially considering he took so long looking for a replacement since Gaster’s genius was “irreplaceable.”
“Gaster is in the void.”
There is no mention of a void in the game, other than what Mettaton says at the end of his battle: “IF I LEFT... THE UNDERGROUND WOULD LOSE ITS SPARK. I'D LEAVE AN ACHING VOID THAT CAN NEVER BE FILLED.“ This is not a literal void.
The followers only ever mention that he “shattered across time and space,” “fell into his creation,” and “his life... was cut short.”
Gaster is not stuck in any void.
“Gaster wrote the true lab entries.”
Other than the ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN that is written in Wingdings, there is no evidence that Gaster wrote any of the entries found in the true lab.
Alphys explains to Frisk the experiment she carried out on the fallen monsters, which the true lab entries document.
Based on supporting evidence in the game, Alphys wrote all the true lab entries.
“The followers are Gaster’s assistants.”
Nothing indicates they ever worked with Gaster.
They mention information about Gaster, but in a hearsay manner.
The “follower” name makes them seem more like fans or cult members.
Sans has a photo album filled with photos of people Frisk does not recognize, which people believe is Gaster and the followers. However, Frisk can meet any one of them, even if the chances are extremely slim.
“Sans was Gaster’s assistant.”
Sans says “you’ll never see them again” in the Lost Souls battle as if speaking from experience.
ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN addresses two people at the end, but nothing confirms who these people are.
Sans speaks about “our reports” and has a scientific background, but evidence supports that Sans may have worked with Alphys instead of Gaster.
“Gaster is Sans’ and Papyrus’ father.”
Gaster is speculated to be a skeleton, so it’s commonly assumed he would be their father. However, Sans and Papyrus make no mention of family outside of each other.
A poorly drawn picture of three people smiling can be found in Sans’ photo album under the right circumstances, but there is nothing to say who these three people are.
Conclusion
Shrouded in mystery and darkness, Gaster’s identity and story continue to elude the community. Filling the gaps with speculation is part of what makes Gaster theories so much fun. Hopefully, this comprehensive master post will aid with the guidance, testing, and formulation of fan theories. While conjecture and assumptions breed compelling speculation, it is always important to distinguish fanon from canon.

Who is the Mystery Man?: Theories and Speculation
Sans and Papyrus are rather mysterious characters. That’s a huge part of their appeal, and why they’re so damned popular in the Undertale fandom, Sans in particular. But even more mysterious than either of them is Dr. W.D. Gaster, the former royal scientist.
But just who or what is Gaster? Most people seem to agree that this guy is Gaster:
This sprite’s file name is “spr_mysteryman_0″ in Undertale’s game files. He’s not given a specific name, so we don’t really know if he’s Gaster or not.
But supposing he was? Or, at the very least, he was a part of Gaster?
One of the gray Gaster followers you meet as a “Fun” event in Undertale informs you that when Gaster “vanished”, he was “shattered across time and space”. That same follower claims to be holding a piece of Gaster before disappearing himself into thin air.
Let us consider that we encounter different random events in the game according to your save file’s “fun” value, which is generated with each new game or reset. This includes every event related to Gaster, like the followers and Mystery Man’s door. You can encounter more than one random event per save file. Here at this link is a chart of “fun” value events by maxdefolsch from imgur. Three of the values are of the Gaster followers. One is for the sound test room, which has Gaster’s Theme. Another is Mystery Man’s hallway, with a very tiny chance of seeing his door and being able to enter his room. Values 91 through 100 allow you to meet Goner Kid, which arguably is related to Gaster based on their Follower-esque colors and the conversation you have with them.
Oh, and of course, there is the “Wrong Number Song”, where the caller asks for someone whose name starts with “G”. Sure, they could be asking for Grillby, or Gerson, or perhaps someone else... but why would they try and hide the name of whom they’re looking for unless it’s taboo?
After all... it’s rude to talk about someone who’s listening, according to one of the followers, and to Sans on the official Undertale blog. And you wouldn’t want to disappear because of it, like that one follower did.
My point is, Gaster’s presence is in 53 different “fun” values out of a possible 100. If we regard each “fun” value as a separate timeline, then Gaster’s existence is horribly split apart across 53 different timelines. If we DON’T count Goner Kid, and they’re a separate incident from Gaster entirely, that’s still 43 timelines left over.
Mystery Man is a tiny piece of Gaster, one who barely exists at all. Hell, you can even walk through him when you enter his room, as he possesses no collision physics. He only disappears into thin air when you try to interact with him, with this expression on his face:
(By the way, this is “spr_mysteryman_1″ in the game’s files.)
But, you’re probably wondering... if Mystery Man is only a part of Gaster, what part is he? My theory about this connects way back to Toby Fox’s other game of note, his Earthbound Halloween Hack. Yeah, we’re going there.
It’s no secret that Undertale was heavily inspired by Earthbound. Toby is a huge fan of the game, and he’d actually made multiple hacks of the game under the alias “Radiation”. His Halloween Hack, however, is his most famous one, and as MatPat from Game Theory pointed out (whether you love him or hate him), it’s easy to see that Toby took quite a few ideas from the Halloween Hack and put it into Undertale.
Allow me to name some examples (and don’t worry, there IS a point to this):
Behold, an Amalgamate.
A predecessor to Flowey in Dr. Andonuts’ Magicant.
Time travel, complete with time machine (which is what many speculate to be in Sans’ workshop).
And of course:
A mad scientist resembling Uboa from Yume Nikki, a.k.a. this weird thing:
And by the way, that last screenshot? That takes place before you fight Dr. Andonuts. But you don’t fight the swearing and angry Andonuts first, remember? No, what you fight is this:
You fight The Id. What is The Id? According to Wikipedia, a person’s id is one of the three parts of Sigmund Freud’s model of the human psyche. It is the part of the human mind that is “the source of our bodily needs, wants, desires, and impulses, particularly our sexual and aggressive drives”. The id is the part of the human mind that says “I WANT”, and if left unchecked will do absolutely anything to get it, even if it’s unrealistic, destructive, or immoral. If it means getting what it wants, it will destroy everything around it. This is not because the id is evil, but because it is our most primal self. Dr. Andonuts sees himself as a monster, and his personal desires as monstrous, hence his most primal self looking the way it does.
How does this tie to Gaster, though? Well... let’s have a look at this scene from the Genocide boss fight against Sans in Undertale:
Sans has dealt with someone in the past who has allowed their id to consume them and become a destructive force. Sans knows the player will destroy the timeline if he doesn’t stop them, and he knows this because he’s dealt with this exact same situation before. The timeline Sans was originally from was destroyed by this person. This person is none other than...
Our mystery man. The Id of Dr. W.D. Gaster.
But remember how I said that there were THREE parts to Sigmund Freud’s model of the human psyche? Let’s examine the other two parts for a moment:
The Ego is the mediator between The Id and reality, seeking to find ways to please the id and grant it its desires in a realistic, organized manner. The ego utilizes “judgment, tolerance, reality testing, control, planning, defense, synthesis of information, intellectual functioning, and memory” to make sense of the person’s thoughts and the world around them. If the id was a car engine, the ego would be the driver behind the wheel.
The Super-Ego is the third part of Freud’s model, and is a direct contradiction to the id. It represents a person’s conscience, borne from societal expectations, spiritual teachings, “cultural regulations”, and morals taught to the person as they were growing up. The super-ego strives for perfection, and shames the id for their desires. The ego uses the super-ego as a guideline to try and keep the id in check, and to set personal standards for the person to live up to.
Now, with these in mind, let’s have a look at Sans and Papyrus, who are clearly tied to Gaster by the fact they likely both own Gaster Blasters:
Now... remember how much Sans values integrity? Integrity is defined as “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness”. This alone seems to make Sans a very Super-Ego sort of guy. Unfortunately, Sans isn’t pure Super-Ego; he gives into his desires of laziness, eating junk food, and basically being a slob. It’s up to Papyrus to snap him out of those things and keep him in check. In fact... doesn’t Papyrus seem to be a far more moral person than Sans? Hell, he even refuses to kill the human when its clear they’re genocidal.
Besides, let us also remember that Papyrus uses Blue magic just like Sans, which could mean he values integrity just as much as his brother.
But what about Ego? Papyrus, for having a very passionate and driven personality, is very much Ego in the Freudian sense. He is far more organized than Sans is. Though he does get impatient, he’s a lot more tolerant than, say, Undyne. He calculates battle strategies and builds puzzles, making use of planning, defense, synthesis of information, and intellectual functioning. As for memory, there are many clues throughout Undertale that Papyrus remembers every single reset. He knew about Mettaton having “bishonen eyes” before Mettaton EX was revealed to the public. He predicted Asgore cutting a hedge in the shape of his smile. He makes a remark about the True Pacifist ending being “the worst possible ending” with a smile on his face, as if he knew there were other endings and knew they’d reached the best one. You could argue that Papyrus knows about some of this stuff through Flowey’s “predictions”, but Flowey himself has stated that Papyrus has never failed to surprise him somehow, so who knows?
So what does this all mean? Well... if I’m correct, Papyrus is physically all that is left of W.D. Gaster. Yup, you heard me. Papyrus is Gaster’s Ego and Super-Ego combined!
But wait, you ask, how on earth is that possible!?
Here’s where things get speculative: you know the DT extractor from the True Lab? The one Alphys built using blueprints, possibly from Sans’ workshop?
Take a look at that and tell me that doesn’t look like a Gaster Blaster. In other words, something Dr. Gaster would have built. I believe that, in the original timeline (the one that was destroyed), Gaster DID build the DT extractor, and was extracting human determination to experiment with.
We all know monsters melt when they have too much determination in their bodies, right? And yet, we know for a fact there is one monster who can alter reality to their whim: Sans, who can teleport at will.
It is with this in mind that it is entirely possible that Sans - who was Gaster’s lab assistant - was injected with just enough Determination to manipulate space-time so he could teleport short distances. And perhaps Gaster gave himself determination to grant himself power as well, and it worked. But as neat as the party tricks he and Sans could pull were, they weren’t enough to get past the Barrier.
How could they do that without melting? In your typical RPG, a skeleton monster is a member of the undead, once human but given life once more through the power of magic. What if skeleton monsters in Undertale can withstand more determination than most monsters because they used to be human? Wouldn’t they have more physical mass than most monsters because they were part of a human body?
After their initial failure, Gaster had reached the same conclusion as Alphys would: using monster soul power was the only way to break the Barrier. Perhaps, now that he and Sans had powerful determination, maybe their own souls would be strong enough to help?
Maybe Gaster began developing technology that could extract souls and contain them, provided the body they came from had enough determination. Gaster would inject himself with increasing amounts of determination until finally, he deemed himself able to use the soul extractor on himself. There would be just one problem: just as Alphys states in the game, it would require a great amount of power to extract a soul from a monster. Gaster would have a solution, however: Chara’s soul. Though he would dare not kill King Asgore’s child and harvest their soul, he could easily employ Chara to be a living battery for his soul removal technology. And that just might be what he did.
So, Gaster uses the soul removal tech on himself with Chara’s help. Somehow, he successfully removes his own soul from his body, but because he was so full of human determination, he did not die. He could never die, now reduced to a pile of undying goop.
However, something peculiar happened with his soul. Rather than crumble to dust, it immediately began to re-form into a new monster. a little baby skeleton. This was Papyrus. Canonly, a monster’s soul is what makes up their entire body, hence why they immediately crumble to dust when they die. And according to my theory/speculations/whatever, this is why Papyrus was born from Gaster’s soul.
So, Gaster now lacked a soul, AND his experiment was a colossal failure. His kindness, compassion, and morals now existed in a separate monster. He was now pure id without an ego or super-ego. He would pretty much go down the same path as Flowey, and end up destroying his and Sans’ timeline.
Woo... that took LITERAL HOURS to write. But these are just my own thoughts. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll talk a bit more about Papyrus.

Here’s an interesting one: an unreleased virtual pet game!
A few years ago (2012, maybe?) I was hired to do the art for a Tamagotchi-style smart phone game, which judging by my files was going to be called Deega Pet.
It was going to be pretty standard for virtual pet games of this type; you hatch an egg, raise the blob that emerges, and depending on the specifics of the care you give it’ll evolve into one of several different forms. I think the type of egg you chose would’ve also influenced the creature you get or what your blob’s preferences are in some way... I was asked to design several eggs, in any case.
The game was going to use a Game Boy-esque color palette, which is why everything is a muted green. Once the blob reached its fourth stage, it would’ve evolved into one of three forms: tall if treated perfectly, knobby-eared if treated well, and kinda goopy if treated poorly. The next stage would see them taller or goopier if they continued to get the same treatment, but if you reversed it, they could become one of the three forms that evolves from the knobby-eared one.
I believe that the goopy one would die if mistreatment continued, and that the tall one would evolve into forms with abilities that none of the others had, but we never got that far. I guess the developer lost interest in the project or something, because communication became infrequent and vague, and they ultimately just stopped responding to my emails. Which is especially unfortunate since they never got around to paying me for this.
On the bright side, it makes for a mildly interesting blog post, so there’s that.
First up are some evolutions from the true neutral path, which are basically just cute animals. I think the monkey-like one and the teddy bear-like one were meant to be alternate evolutions of the form to their left, while the gorilla-like one was going to be a combat-centric evolution of the monkey. I was only given rough prompts for what the creatures should be, and was free to design them however I wanted.
Next, the “ideal” creatures, presumably only obtainable by raising your blob perfectly every step of the way. They’re the most human-like, which is kinda creepy now that I’m thinking about it. Unlike the other paths, they would’ve had distinct genders. As you can see, I was working on the child form’s male version when communication broke down, and it never got finished.
I think the gimmick of these monster-type creatures was going to be that they could turn out either good or evil, with you having to treat them pretty poorly in the blob phase for them to turn out this way. WOW do I not like how I drew that demon one in the top-right.
Finally, saving the best for last.... the evolutions of the floppy-eared blob! I don’t actually know what these are supposed to be! The one on the far right is what I originally drew, which I eventually split into the body design for one form and the head design of its evolution. While I like both of those designs, the original remains my favorite.
So, that’s Deega Pet! This was pretty interesting to look back on, so maybe I’ll post some other projects I worked on and never got paid for. I have the sprites just lying around and I’m not going to do anything else with them, so why not?

My first jrpg: Phantasy Star IV
This is the amazingly spectacular cover the amazing megadrive/genesis rpg, Phantasy Star IV. I believe it retailed new in the neighborhood of 100$, maybe a bit less. I think Chrono Trigger was 70$, maybe more. I never got to buy Phantasy Star IV so it had to be rented from our old Blockbuster. Of course if I hadn’t seen the sprawing, multi-page long review/mini walkthrough of the first part of the game in an issue of Gamefan that I got for Christmas I never would have bothered with this game. I was young, obviously, and mostly played stuff like Sonic, Ristar, Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter Super/Turbo..whatever. I really digged the genesis Aladdin game too and actually owned it. I was starting to get into anime because Sailormoon would air at 2:30 EST on Fox Kids so i would get to sneak a watch if I was sick from school, it was a holiday or we’d gotten out early. I LOVED the show even though I had no idea what was going on. I wanted more things that looked like that. So, I see PS4 in Gamefan along with all the screenshots and ingame cutscenes of characters like Zio, who reminded me of one of Queen Beryl’s lackies but also was super evil and scary looking to me. The monsters looked awesome and way more detailed than the typical badnik mooks I spent my weekends bopping to release cute little flickies. So, its friday during June, I think I’d just gotten out of school and mom took me to Blockbuster. I searched the shelves for Phantasy Star IV and couldn’t find it so I asked mom for help. When I was really little and wanted to find a game I would sometimes get her to help me search the massive shelves. Mom quickly found it and asked “Is this the game?
Yeah...I believe the Shining Force games got a similar treatment at least on the sega genesis. For the record I don’t hate western style fantasy art and love collecting musty old AD&D books for the art and like Warhammer but yea..as a kid that cover art made nauseous. Its not quite Megaman 2 nes bad but its just so....WRONG. At least they still kept Chaz’s original color scheme and design I guess..but what they did to Rune was unforgivable. I won’t comment on Rika. My biggest problem with this style of art is that it makes you think Phantasy Star IV is some kind of medieval D&D inspired game. The core Phantasy Star games are best described as fantasy sci-fi, sort of like Star Wars. You have interplanetary travel, cyborgs, ecosystems controlled by AI sometimes prone to turning evil but but people fight with swords, axes and use magic. It really is a lot like Star Wars setting wise since the first planet you start on, Motavia, looks and feels a whole like Tatooine. It was a very fun but confusing game to me. I loved the music and anime stills used for cutscenes but I would explore certain locations and BOOM the music abruptly switches to fast paced battle music and I’m now on a different screen with more detailed versions of my party facing detailed sprites of bad guys. I eventually figured out what I was suppose to do by selecting attack with everybody, but I’d see certain people would do a lot more damage when I did this. After several more battles I discovered techs/magic but the only ones I understood were those that did direct damage and made cool explosions. If I selected a spell that did something besides direct damage I just assumed it was completely worthless. Its been so long but I think the farthest I got was to Zio’s castle but I never got past the first boss and had to return the game. I rented it again a few weeks to discover my file had been written over(I think) or there was someone else’s file. I clicked that one and was confused even more because I was on this snowy planet with melancholy music and my party had different members and some were missing. I left the town and saw I had a swanky spaceship so I went back to Motavia, the first planet. I wandered around and for the life of me I could not figure out where Alys was. What happened to Zio? I played a bit more and some snooping around one town made me realize what had happened to Alys and then I just got into more random battles for fun because I had Wren the cyborg now and I thought all his moves were badass. I played a bit more but then got tired of all the aimless wandering and went outside to play. Really dating myself there... So that’s the story of my first rpg. I never did buy the game but i later discovered the wonderful world of emulation in the 7th grade and was finally able to play stuff like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4,5,6. Yes, I am one of those many Final Fantasy posers who’s first game was 7. I could exaggerate and say it was FF1 because my sister had an nes and played it but she rarely let me touch her console ever. I just knew her frustration about where to go after she got some flute. But back to the topic, I also downloaded Gens (obviously a genesis/megadrive emulator) and the first game I downloaded was....Sonic 3! THEN I downloaded Phantasy Star IV, got super far and was able to truly appreciate this wonderful and mostly forgotten jrpg. But..I didn't beat it. I got to sky castle, to the ::SPOILERS:: fight against a certain someone from PS1 and my game would always freeze when I was about to defeat him. I fruitlessly searched for a solution to my problem but alas I could never find a method to bypass the bug. We have way better emulators now and PS4 has been ported to steam and other consoles, always bundled together with other classic genesis games such as Shining Force 1 and 2, Landstalker, Streets of Rage etc. I’m going to beat PS4 one day, probably very soon. I have played and beaten so many rpgs, both western and Japanese(mostly Japanese) and they are my favorite genre of video game by far. So, thanks Phantasy Star IV, for introducing me to rpgs and making me into the lifelong weeb scum I am today.

The finished game evaluation/ additional comments
Its finally completed! It amazing seeing something that you’ve been working on non stop finally come together as a whole in a finished product, I have to say this is probably the most rewarding, and challenging project I’ve done so far. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on this project, its been difficult and stressful at times, but seeing it finished like this is a brilliant reward. Everything from the backgrounds, environmental features, character movements, sounds, music and the smallest extra details have come together smoothly and better than I ever thought! Nothing really seems out of place, which is a major victory. It definitely helped going into development having a clear idea of what I wanted things to look like, how it should work and a time plan, even being able to adapt the original idea further, taking it as far as I could with the remaining time.
Having contact with a programmer was also extremely helpful and invaluable to me, especially as the weeks got on and construction of the game became the key focus. He was able to provide a lot of tips on how things could work, how I could program certain things myself as well as doing a lot of the more difficult programming himself for the game, writing the engine itself (through direction via skype calls and messages, we were in contact with every step). This also allowed me to be able to focus most of my energy on actually creating everything for the game for as high a standard as possible, which I think was a very good decision. The environment is ambient, just as I originally wanted, and then some with the addition of some animal sprites in the form of a bug and bird-like creature. The environment was my main focus from the start as I had wanted to make a believable, but alien world and I believe I have achieved that goal! It feels unique when playing the game, as every new time you play the surroundings change due to objects in the world being randomly placed, a feature which I’m very pleased with. I’m also fairly proud of the characters in the game, their animations are smooth and quite realistic, and look great within the context of the game itself, as if actually interacting with whats around them. The little intro cutscene works well within the rest of the game, if a little laggy sometimes, and I am pleased with the quality of animation within that scene. The audio in both that scene, the menu, additional screens and the game itself matches the action it is tied to fairly well, I was pleased of this, as before this project working with any kind of audio was completely new to me, but I feel I edited them quite successfully as they do seem to suit the atmosphere. The game itself runs quite smoothly, with only occasional lag at times, but nothing that hinders actual gameplay.
Unfortunately, sometimes when playing the game the audio doesn’t sync up due to a small bit of lag occasionally, this happens often with the intro cutscene quite frequently and sadly I don’t have enough time left to try and fix this or a better way to implement the cutscene. At the moment, the scene plays as a sprite, like the rest of the screens and other animations in the game, which might be the reason for the lag as the computer processes the size of the sprite itself, though I am unsure. If there was a way to use the cutscene I instead made into a movie file I would use that instead, but as of now I can’t think of a way to do that, so the more in-sync version will have to remain a separate file for now. Another problem I’ve encountered is that sometimes due to the code randomly placing objects, there are bits which may be impossible to get past, fortunately this doesn't happen as often. I also would have liked to have been able to add more cutscenes into the game, or perhaps a longer one at least, as I wanted there to be some underlying story or narrative to the game, rather than just simply being about escaping. Given time I would have thought about perhaps adding another monster to the mix, so each time you play, you could have a different thing to run away from, this would have been an interesting feature. This one would have been that white worm creature, as I was really fond of that design and it would have been nice to have been able to use it in the game. Another thing I would have liked to have fixed if I had time would be to add more animations for the monster, as at the moment he can only attack and run. This is fine usually, but when he gets to a hole it looks a little odd to see him simply hover over it. With time, I would have liked to have added a jump animation for him too, so that he also had to avoid obstacles and jump over holes, and it would look a little more natural.
Overall I would say I have managed to succeed in matching my original statements almost exactly, though being able to add a little extra here and there is also a brilliant feeling, as I was able to do more than I had thought. This whole project has been a really fascinating experience for me, going from designs to a finished product has been really rewarding, and working with and directing someone else has also been useful. Not only for a taster of how it might work in industry (working with other people in a team) but also being able to lead that process was invaluable, as I had to use time management skills, and organise what I was doing effectively as well as keeping track of the programming progress on the other side. I hope In the future I will get the opportunity to make more games or similar media, as this project has definitely been all I had hoped and I look forward to the possibility of creating a similar, possibly more refined project in the year ahead! Over the summer I plan to take online courses in programming and 3D modelling, possibly to be able to use the skills I’ve learned from this and from further study in the next academic year.
