Leveling
In Splattrpg, you have two different levels. Your character level, and your freshness level. Your character level caps off at 20 and is very similar to character levels in other systems. I.E. leveling up will unlock milestones and let you do cool new stuff. Freshness level caps off at 5 and is tied to your freshness bonus. Freshness bonus is a positive modifier similar to proficiency bonus in dnd 5e that you can add to most rolls. Occasionally your freshness level (and thus your bonus) may reset. This is briefly touched on in the weapon types/classes 2.0 dev log.

Weapon types/classes 2.0
We have our first set of ‘patch notes’ for our system, featuring some issues with the leveling system (which will hopefully get its own post soon) and a hopefully more understandable explanation of how things work.
In Splattrpg, character classes are called weapon types. These weapon types are categorized by the weapon classes in the games. Brellas, chargers, shooters, stringers, etc. each weapon type has its own unique characteristics. The individual weapons in these weapon types are essentially the same as subclasses in dnd 5e and other systems.
The main change between this ‘patch’ and our previous post explaining these mechanics is that you can no longer change your weapon type. You also cannot ‘multiclass’. You can, however, you can, however, change your weapon (subclass) at any time.
For an example of this, a shooter main can’t also be a charger main. Nor can they turn into a charger main. But they can swap out their splash-o-matic for a jet squelcher.
To discourage constant swapping, doing so will reset your freshness level to 1. Aforementioned freshness level will be explored in a later post.

Painting.
Painting is based off of a point system. At the start of your turn, you get any number of points. These points represent the ink in your ink tank. Points reset every round. The amount of points available to you are based on the ink efficiency of your weapon.
You can spend your points on three different actions, inks turf.
Painting, counts as part of your action, DOES ink turf.
Attacking, counts as part of your action, does NOT ink turf.
Sub weapon, bonus action available to you once per round, does damage and paints.
Amount of tiles you paint per point used depends on the power of your weapon.
Some weapon types can only paint in certain shapes (chargers, splatanas, rollers, brushes.) but ink more spaces per point used.
Splatting an enemy will produce an explosion that inks in a 2 tile radius and damages nearby enemies.
#Splattrpg#dev logs#small update to this. I just realized I put a typo that says painting doesn’t ink turf 💀#I may be stupid

Weapon types
Dnd 5e has classes. We’re changing these. Instead of classes, we now have weapon types. each weapon type has their own unique ability and they all level up to 20. ‘Multiclassing’ is not possible. however, you can change your weapon type at any time. At this point in development it’s unclear whether you keep your current character level when you switch. The individual weapon you choose is analogous with your subclass.
Either the amount of weapons available in the shooter type will decrease or we will make our own weapons for the other types, we want to make sure that the amount of weapons you can choose for each.

Splattrpg intro and masterpost
Welcome, to Splattrpg! A Splatoon-inspired table-top roleplaying game based heavily off of the dnd 5e system! Development for Splattrpg started September 14, 2023. We do not currently have a working beta for playtesting, but we hope to eventually turn this into a fully functional game with mechanics for turf war, story modes, and salmon run with a few starting adventures to get people started!
