Tag game: tag nine people you’d like to know better.
Tagged by: @oneshoulderangel (Thank you for tagging me!)
Last song: At the moment, I have "Losing Your Memory" by Alan Star stuck in my head, which I suppose makes it my current song, not my last song. Hm. I get songs stuck in my head very easily, but the last one I had there for a significant amount of time was a mashup of different language versions of "Les Rois du Monde" for about a week. "Lehetsz Király", the Magyar version, is probably my favorite of them. It's worth a listen.
Currently watching: Normally, the answer would be "random mostly terrible old movies/shows" or "nothing much", but I currently have a hyperfixation on the musical Roméo et Juliette and have been watching it in multiple languages. (Thus, the song).
Three ships: This is hard. Maybe as a result of being on the ace and aro spectrums, I'm more likely to care about which characters are interacting than whether it's romantic or platonic. Here goes:
Kedivere/Bedikay. It can be romantic, platonic, or queerplatonic, but whichever way, I'm here for it. I probably spend too much time thinking about how in Cullwch and Olwen, when Cai gets mad at Arthur and marches out, Bedwyr stays behind, keeps acting like nothing's happened, and isn't the one to avenge Cai's death. The feeling of betrayal on both sides has a lot of unexplored potential. And the version where Bedivere dies and Kay fights to bring his body back safely while mortally wounded himself... And the version where Bedivere survives Camlann and Kay isn't said to fight in it, so they might be left together after their world has fallen apart...
Platonically or queerplatonically, Galahad and the Grail Heroine. I really like the tragic Grail Quest friendships, but I like theirs most, maybe because there's something weird and otherworldly about them both. I like it when characters are strange and endearing and doomed by the narrative.
Ever since reading John Matthews' retelling, which I read before the original, I've had a soft spot for Caradoc and Guinier. The Story of Caradoc is very disturbing, and I have some major qualms with Caradoc over a detail Matthews cut out, but all the same, there's a reason these two have the best track record with magical fidelity tests. Each of them would go to the ends of the earth for the other, and together, they're stronger than any curse.
Favorite Color: Blue, particularly royal blue and some teals.
Currently consuming: Black licorice with chocolate.
First ship: This is a hard one, since through elementary and most of middle school, I tended to go along with whatever I thought the author's intentions were and was more likely to unship something. The first non-endgame ship I got invested in was Sonya/Nikolai in War and Peace. I didn't like Nikolai, but Sonya did, and she was my favorite character, so I wanted her to be happy. The first non-canon couple I thought was meant to be together was also in War and Peace: Marya Bolkonskaya and Julie Karagina. My eighth grade self did not think their letters could be interpreted platonically. I still don't.
Last movie: If the musical doesn't count, the last movie I watched was Quest for Camelot, which was awful. Though not Robot Monster-level bad, Robot Monster has an elegance to its simplicity which Quest for Camelot lacks.
Currently working on: Various fics, most of them Arthuriana or CotRK-related (I am woefully behind on the Badfic Bingo), and (theoretically) an epic-style poem, though I haven't gotten much of it written for quite a while now.
Tagging: @gawrkin, @emperorcandy, @wildbasil, @gorewound, @knightsofsomethingorother, @ladyminaofcamelot, @tasosotaso, @amashelle, @gingersnaptaff (I have no idea who's been tagged so far, apart from the people on @oneshoulderangel's post, so I apologize for any multi-tags)

I think that there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what exactly is…happening with Izuku’s character. Specifically in regards to chapter 425.
I’m glad that a lot more people generally recognize that Izuku is not a character that can be read at a surface level, given that he’s both a repressed person with built up emotion of basically everything and also a very glaringly HUGELY unreliable narrator, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with the ways I’ve seen this most recent chapter spoken about.
I see posts, comments, etc with ideas like “Izuku don’t suppress your emotions! Open up with people! It’ll be okay I promise!” When that’s fundamentally not what is happening here.
There’s always always ALWAYS been a distinct difference in character throughout horikoshi’s writing when he is showing that a character is:
A—Avoiding emotions, thoughts, ideas less than ideal for them. Not opening up when they probably should about their problems given that they’ve been handed the space to do so. Just genuinely not acknowledging, feeling, or expressing emotions that they don’t want.
B—Reflecting on the ways they feel about the world, themselves, or other people given their new perspective on a situation. Not outright reaching out to others to talk about these problems/feelings, but instead waiting until the moment they feel they have the most confidence to do so with their new outlook on their own life.
And genuinely, guys, to grab your BkDk attention rn, this is the exact reason why Ochako’s reflection on her feelings for Izuku and thereafter decision to pull away from them WAS NEVER GOING TO END IN OCHAKO EXPLODING WITH HER LOVE FOR HIM.
This was another common interpretation I saw of Ochako and Izuocha for a long time. That because she pushed these feelings away, they were somehow going to explode in this unbelievable way and she would “get the boy” because of it. That her arc would surround accepting her romantic feelings and that she can’t just push away how she feels for a career.
But yk. That didn’t happen. At all. Nowhere close even.
The same kind of goes for Katsuki, allmight, etc. They all had moments in their arc where it was spent genuinely reflecting, and the only reason we as the audience never connected it in the same ways we do ochako or Izuku was ALWAYS BECAUSE the narrative showed their inner thoughts while doing so (mostly because Allmight’s arc after losing OFA and Katsuki’s arc on what it means to be a hero were so intrinsically tied, both starting at the same time and ending at the same time during the final war. And because they were so tied this caused their own reflections, development, and thought process to be broadcasted to us frequently throughout their arcs… to each other. They also somewhat shared aspects with Izuku, but these were cherry picked more often than not, like dvk2 for example).
To us Katsuki never seemed to be.. idk, suppressing his anger in any way because we were always told what he was doing and why (side note: this is why I’ve always thought arguments against Katsuki were so weird, bc unlike characters like endeavor or Ochako he wasn’t like… hiding who he was and how he was changing. Ever. Like the audience knows at all times past basically season 3 what Katsuki is thinking and doing. Like how do you watch this happen, stare me dead in the eye, and tell me how much of a terrible and awful teenage boy he is. Like damn I didn’t think we were this dumb. This is also my theory as to why he’s most popular, his arc is very… in your face if that makes sense). Katsuki’s entire mini arc on reflecting his mistakes and his childhood and his future is spent TELLING YOU that it’s what he’s doing. (I’m referring mostly to the endeavor internship arc, the provisional license exam makeup, and basically everything in the war arc related to him leading up to bakugou Katsuki rising here)
And see, Horikoshi will stare you dead in the eye, tell you “this girl has taken into consideration that she doesn’t want to waste her time training her career focusing on a boy because he kinda caught her fancy”, and y’all will still say that this will explode in her face.
Y’all this is a series about learning how to manage emotions, maturity in relationship to one’s emotions, how to feel an emotion, but in a way that is helpful. Horikoshi isn’t telling you “go buck wild, feel everything all the time and always express it”, in fact he explores why you DONT do that! Through Toga or Shigaraki, they show how grief and anger can genuinely consume you. But he also shows why you shouldn’t just put everything in a box to never look at or acknowledge, or why you shouldn’t just let your grief destroy the world around you, or pretending that some emotions simply don’t exist.
I can’t say this enough, so let me say it now, mha is about the extremes of your psyche. That you should control something, but not too much. Everything can be harmful. Everything can be good.
Izuku is not controlling too much, he’s expressing just enough.
I LOVE shaming this dickhead at all times in all my posts. I love saying he’s an ignorant dipshit with a weird amount of distaste for a girl who just confessed to him. I’ve joked that chapter 348 is basically an entire chapter spent on Izuku calling Himiko a mean dyke. And yet I also believe he’s doing nothing WRONG here.
In fact, I’ll even say that this moment right here?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ISNT EVEN IZUKU DOING THE SOCIALLY APPROPRIATE THING ABOUT IT! But he’s still TRYING to reach out to someone he thinks MIGHT be able to understand. (And frankly, this moment is far deeper than what it’s being made out to be, to me it reads more like an unrequited friendship that Izuku both desires and has thought of them to have, while simultaneously showing the distance Ochako has successfully wedged between them for her own sake. Maybe it was always there though, maybe in weird, miscommunicated Horikoshi fashion, this is a representation of how Ochako always read all those “fun friend hangouts” as a little more than that, and without those feelings the friendship never really held any substance to her in the first place. Where Izuku saw his first real friend at UA, she saw little more than acquaintance)
Simultaneously, Izuku is genuinely reflecting on what it means for the world to change, to be a hero, to live after loss—and trying and failing to gain the connection he desires from individuals who can not and will not afford him that.
Izuku is ready for the world to change, a few select characters are also ready for the world to change (mirio, for example), but not nearly enough are. So maybe I’ll have to take this back if I’m proven wrong and I accidentally looked into this far past what everyone else did for no reason, but I genuinely believe with moments like this
Tumblr media
And this
Tumblr media
Aand this
Tumblr media
That Izuku has come forward with that aspect of his character development. He’s reflecting on his new beliefs, not repressing his emotions for them.

Killing Ahsoka (sorry for this.)
Among my perhaps controversial takes is that it would've served the story better if Ahsoka had been killed during Clone Wars.
I don't like it either (in general or specifically killing another female character for Anakin's sake), but make a couple changes to the arc with Cad Bane and you get this nice little set up where Anakin opens the holocron for him, Bane kills Ahsoka anyway--because he sucks and as a distraction to escape. Then Anakin proceeds to fail at prioritizing the lives of the safety of living children over his anger and grief for Ahsoka, even long enough to help with the investigation. He goes to kill Bane, nearly jeopardizing the mission to rescue the children Bane kidnaps, until Obi-Wan has to step in to get him to back down so they can interrogate Bane properly.
It's a climactic moment, and one of the several times that Obi-Wan very deliberately opens up about his own feelings & struggles specifically to help Anakin (see him talking about his feelings for Satine). He says something along the lines of never having experienced losing a padawan, but that getting to take care of Anakin after losing Qui-Gon helped him process the loss of his master. They have to help these children who mean so much to their families, much like what Ahsoka meant to Anakin. What would Ahsoka want him to do? (same method as how he reasoned with Anakin about Padme on Geonosis in AOTC)
Anakin does back down, but only just.
He's touched the dark again, but he's not lost.
Not yet.
The Jedi understand his awful loss. Too many of them have lost padawans. There is sympathy from Kit Fisto, who only just lost his own recently-knighted padawan. There is patience from Mace Windu, who thinks of Depa (already beyond his reach in a coma, if you include Shatterpoint events). There is Yoda, letting go for the thousandth time of all his padwans who have passed before him. There is attention from Obi-Wan and Rex, there is the 501st gathering to tell stories and remember her well. Anakin goes to Padmé, who also comforts him (she is secretly relieved that he made a different choice than with his mother--it means she doesn't have to worry anymore about her choice to keep his secret). Then he goes to Palpatine, who expresses his sympathy, and his wish that things like this didn't happen (if only he had more power to end the war and crack down on crime. this is the fault of the senate holding him back. Anakin should hold onto his pain forever--it is they only thing that shows he truly cared about Ahsoka).
Anakin shoves it down, along with all of his other pain. He stews in it, unable to process anything, becoming more and more reckless with his and the 501st's lives (why weren't they there to save her? why wasn't he powerful enough to save her?).
When he begins to dream of Padmé's death, he is not just doubly, but triply afraid.

guys i haven’t had time to write in weeks and it’s driving me INSANE. to help cope here are a bunch of percabeth fic ideas i have rattling around my brain that i may or may not get around to writing at some point
annabeth is assigned for cabin inspection and percy slept in (cue speed cleaning and attempted flattery and bribery to avoid punishment). this one is deeply unserious
since we didn’t get it in the show with the spider trap in the tunnel of love i’d love to write some other situation where annabeth gets scared by spiders and percy helps her through it and they talk about their fears
ok ok. hear me out. pjo tv trio watching the lightning thief musical. i’m normally not into “characters watch their own media” type fics, but i think it could be fun to write while also allowing for some introspection! they’re just experiencing this weird uncanny valley where everything is familiar but it’s so different at the same time and also everyone is singing?? percy laughs at his own jokes of course and grover is a theatre kid so he’s nerding out and annabeth is confused (the only musical she’s ever seen is the wizard of oz) but entertained. i think it could be silly
lovesick au with an extra dose of angst. percy gets accidentally drugged with aphrodite’s love magic (and naturally annabeth is the first person he sees) so now she has to deal with a very clingy percy who's sweet and considerate and would do anything she asked but it's not her percy. like she wanted him to like her back but not like this ;-; happy ending tho obviously
hypervigilance and hyperfixation - annabeth has always had to be aware of her surroundings and never let her guard down (ptsd from her childhood and being a demigod), until this boy comes into her life and now all her attention zones in on him whenever he’s within a 50 yard radius. just a little drabble on all the little things you notice when you’re constantly aware of your crush and how even their annoying habits or flaws become hopelessly endearing
annabeth with glasses would be so cute?? (credit to @vicwritesfic for the idea!). basically just some percabeth moments told through glasses: annabeth first getting them and percy helping her feel comfortable with them when she gets self conscious, annabeth losing them in the lake and percy retrieving them, percy trying her glasses on because i think that’s a universal glasses wearer experience, percy finding her asleep at her desk with her glasses askew and taking them off gently, etc. etc. you get the idea
ok y’all know that saying that’s like “you know you like your crush when they get an awful haircut and they’re still attractive to you”? that’s it, that’s the fic. i’m thinking percy gets an unwilling haircut and he gets all embarrassed because his head is a fuzzy egg now, but annabeth still finds him cute because she's down catastrophically bad. he gets his curls back at the end tho don’t worry!
percy is cursed to be honest when he lies to a god and now he can’t stop telling annabeth how pretty her eyes are and how much he admires her; he can’t even use sarcasm - he’s defenseless! basically an excuse for me to torture percy and make him finally talk about his feelings
post tlt. annabeth ran away again after fighting with her father, but instead of going back to camp she goes to stay with the jackson’s (with the obligatory shows-up-on-their-doorstep-sopping-wet-and-pathetic scene and sally decides to adopt her immediately). it was supposed to be for a weekend, but percy convinces her to just stay until they have to go back to camp (about three weeks) and cute domestic shenanigans (and angst) ensue!
percy just got his driver's license after the titan war and takes annabeth for a ride to montauk to meet grover (she obviously has to tease him about the time he was 12 and crashed a car because he was too busy looking into her eyes). they sing along to their favorite songs and percy gets road rage and they stop for ice cream. basically a chance for them to be normal teens because they deserve it!
pen pal au where percy and annabeth write each other letters during the school year (takes place after tlt). just little moments in their lives told through letters and photos and mementos (sally insists on express mailing annabeth blue cookies after a fight with her parents ofc). it’s not the same as having each other there in person, but it helps with the distance. my way of coping with the hiatus between tlt and SoM ;-;
bi percabeth my beloved!! fic about percy’s bi awakening after reflecting on all his boy crushes (childhood friend, luke, beckendorf, etc). he comes out to annabeth after the war and they have this very touching moment where they talk and hug it out. then annabeth is like “oh also I like girls” “you couldn’t have led with that??” “i didn’t want to steal your moment!”
i've also been drafting out some percy pov chapters to my fics "i miss you like a little kid", "nothing's going to hurt you baby", and "punched in the gut (feels like being in love" so those are in the works!!
phew. and that's not even all of them (i think about them an unhealthy amount). i miss writing these two so much, but i won't really have a chance to breath from my school work until spring break so wish me luck ;-;
as always you can find my finished fics here :3

TBB S3 E11 Reaction
I’ve watched this episode multiple times already but honestly it doesn’t get any easier. Here we go I guess 😩
- This droid guy looks like the one from episode 4. They’re kinda cute
- The return of Mel! (And Phee 😁)
- Both of them are in a mood 😆. What trip did they just get back from to make them so cranky? Love the throwback to Skara Nall too.
- Noooo not CX-2 😭
- He’s a sneaky boi
- I knew that Phee would inadvertently be how the coordinates to Pabu would be found 🥺🥺
- I’m just now noticing that the back office is playing music and that’s probably why Phee can’t hear the alarm go off. That is hilarious and also very frustrating 😅
- Of course the droid thinks it caused the alarm somehow
- There’s no way downloading someone’s flight log goes that quickly but okay
- Ooooh my girl knows something is up! Her spidey pirate senses are going off. Aghhhh if only she had been a second sooner!!
- If CX-2 ISN’T Tech there is zero reason why he would have stayed behind to watch Phee leave before he snuck off. Also how is he so incredible at hacking into and decoding things 👀
- Ugh I just want a show of Phee and Mel adventures around the galaxy!
- Why is his ship so freaking cool. These maps are incredible.
- Reallyyyy wanna get CX-2’s helmet off 😭
- Aw Pabu is so beautiful in the sunset
- Ha! I knew the boys would try to leave after Ventress warned them it was too dangerous to stay on Pabu. Hunter might be slow sometimes but he’s not completely stupid guys
- Aw poor Wrecker just wants an ice cream
- Crosshair shakes his head at him 🤣
- The little clone cadets outfits are so cool!!!
- Not going to lie, the first time I watched this was the closest I had cried all season. Tech’s goggles and Lula being placed in the Archium is so heartbreakingly fitting 💔
- Wrecker and Gonky banter 🤩🤩🤩 Gonk is such a part of the family I love it soooo much
- Okay seriously how is CX-2 able to both know he’s tripped a proximity sensor AND turn it off?? Come on
- I just realized how he knows where the cave is too. If he tracked Phee’s flight log it must have shown exactly where she normally landed
- Ugh that gold and purple is just too beautiful. Can Pabu be a real place that I can go to?
- Hunter’s spidey senses are also on alert. And I love how close he and Crosshair are again, their pre-Order 66 bond has been restored and is even deeper. Crosshair is attuned to when Hunter’s senses go off. And their helmets sitting together on the cart is so cute 🥹
- No NO no NOOO Nooooo. This moment was ruined by the Star Wars marketing team so it honestly didn’t hit as hard as it would have otherwise, but 😭😭😭. RIP Marauder. You will live on in our imagination
- I still can’t believe that they somehow heard our outcry about what would happen to Gonky, Lula, and Tech’s goggles if they blew up the Marauder, and decided to save EXACTLY those three things 🤣 (and Wrecker. So glad Wrecker is “relatively” okay, poor boy)
- Hunter’s slooow helmet turn until we see the starship above the island. Phew. And the Imperial March coming in.
- Omega comforting Batcher 😭😭😭
- Having LAATs swoop down into a town like that would be terrifying
- Man, where’s Maarva when you need her. Fuck the Empire
- “Search every domicile until you find her” is going to go down in Star Wars quote history
- I was genuinely afraid they were going to burn the whole island
- I’m sorry but I just can’t take the backpack clips on CX-2 seriously
- Batcher baby no! (Also genuinely thought we were going to lose her for a second)
- Damn Hunter. Nothing makes him shine like hand to hand combat and other things 🥵
- He’s never been hotter honestly
- Alright how in the world is CX-2 so good at *everything*. I’m honestly getting a little annoyed at it.
- Crosshair’s face 😭💔😭 he’s never looked more scared and pleading than when he says his baby sister’s name
- I’m kind of surprised that they didn’t just burn down the town anyway. Either CX-2 is just trying to be super efficient/he doesn’t care past accomplishing his mission, or the Empire gets much more petty and cruel by Kenobi and Rebels
- It’s so interesting to me how touchy CX-2 is with Omega. Why all the shoulder pushes? Shoulder touches are very much a form of affection and communication among clones. Has that impulse in him just been turned to violence?
- Sooo…we basically will never get wet hair Hunter 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll take this much dripping and cute Batcher scratches compensation though
- Okay. I’m just going to say it. The way they chose to have Crosshair miss the tracking device was so disappointing to me. Not the fact that he missed, but how he missed. Having him be distracted and fend for his life and be late for the shot was great. But I wish they had brought his hand tremble into play here as the main mechanism behind why he missed. They’ve been building that up all season and it would have made perfect sense. Instead he rushes and like trips and just shoots too early? So out of character. I didn’t like it and still don’t :(
- Welp, Omega seems to be less worried than we are. We’re in the end game now folks 😳 this music is awesome too

Aang actually *was* a Terrible Dad (and we should stop making excuses for him).
One thing I cannot get over is how people say that Aang actually wasn't that terrible of a father, and I keep hearing the same excuses to his behavior: he didn't grow up with conventional parents, he had to focus on bringing back his air-bending culture, Katara was already a natural parent and was totally okay being the housewife/mom who let Aang off the hook with most of the serious parenting duties... ugh....
Anyway, I have three points to give:
1) Aang may not have grown up with conventional family structure, but he certainly knew enough about the world (being a nomad his whole life pre-war) to understand what a healthy family dynamic looked like. He knew enough about Toph's dad and Zuko's dad to understand what a poor father figure looked like. Aang also spent time with Hakoda, in ATLA season 3, to see the characteristics of a good father -- and this doesn't even include the time he spent traveling with Sokka/Katara alone and noticing how their dad's absence was affecting them. I put a lot of emphasis on Katara, here, because she makes it very clear in Season 3 that her father leaving the family was devastating... and this girl would want a partner who understood those feelings and do absolutely everything to keep the family together. It's what she did throughout the entirety of ATLA-- Katara was the glue that kept everyone close -- and you would think Aang would pick up on those cues, rather than let history repeat itself after he had his family with Katara. Imagine how awful it must've been for Katara, watching the man she married ultimately go off with their air-bending son on these cultural excursions, and not even consider that their two other kids might want to learn about air bending culture anyway. They're a bi-cultural family, after all, right? Wouldn't that have been a prime example for the new world, showing a blended family being together and not separate? Just let that sink in for a moment.
2) Many people say that any misunderstood family dynamics between Kya, Bumi and Tenzin came to a peaceful conclusion in LOK season 2 with a happy family portrait. Here's the thing-- a posed, smiling family portrait doesn't necessarily indicate a healthy family unit. I'm also making note of LOK Season 3, when Bumi admits that he finally feels more connected to their father after he magically gets Airbending, and also that scene when Kya/Bumi arrive to the Northern Air Temple and the acolytes are shocked to hear that Avatar Aang had other children besides Tenzin. I mean... how much effort would it take, exactly, for Aang to just mention to the temple monks and acolytes that he had two other kids? Was he embarrassed to tell them they weren't air benders? Was he ashamed? In any case, he was the Avatar and he should've demonstrated pride for the children he had regardless of their bending ability or lack their-of. It goes without saying that, while Aang did grow up differently and had many priorities being the Avatar and the Last Airbender... he still made some conscious choices about how little of a "family man" he wanted to be. Aang clearly favored the air-bending life and didn't process that he was also raising a family that was part WaterTribe (perhaps because many of their customs clashed with his air-bending way of life... but that's another conversation.)
3) Yes, Bryke are notorious for writing examples of poor father figures (Ozai/Unalaq/BeiFong/Yakone/Hiroshi) and I'm also here to tell you that they're known for writing women who lose agency and turn devoted-doting-domestic-docile once they get with their man. Pema from LOK is a good example-- all we know about her is she literally gave her life to be an air-acolyte and carry Tenzin's children (the only backstory we get is Pema secretly pined for Tenzin until it became too much and she had to say something), and be the good housewife and mother to those air bending kids. We know nothing about this woman's individual wants or needs outside of motherhood. Another example is the backstory of Yakone and his unnamed wife who-- after giving this man two sons, completely disappears from the narrative and is not aware Yakone is abusing his kids. And she's still exists, because Amon refuses to go with Noatak so as to not abandon their mom. Their mother was so unnecessary as a character after she had the kids, she became this oblivious/silent character in the background who let her own kids get abused. Another example is Unalaq's wife-- again, about a father using his two kids like his henchmen and the mother isn't even in the picture. We know she exists because after Unalaq gets destroyed... Esna turns to Desca and says "what're we gonna tell Mother?"  It may have been written as a subtle joke... but the underlying sentiment is still there.
I'd say my favorite example is the fate of Fire Lady Ursa-- a woman once determined to protect her children that she was willing to commit murder and treason -- ends up choosing to forget those same children and instead wipes all her memories of them entirely to start a quiet domestic life with her childhood sweetheart, a man who very much knows the life Ursa left behind and has the power to decide what truths he wants to tell her about the world and live like there wasn't even a bloody war happening. (Don't even get me started on how The Search disappointed me. Oy).
Perhaps Aang and Katara -- even without intent -- might have fallen into that formulaic pattern when Bryke wrote out the first two seasons of LOK, because that was during the time The Promise, The Search and The Rift comics got published, and Katara's character was definitely becoming that unquestionably-loyal/no fuss/devoted girlfriend to Aang where she would go with everything he decided and sadly sit in a corner while Aang got all the praise and attention and never considering her feelings. Bryke picked up on these mistakes, however, because in the later comics like North & South and Imbalance, you can see them giving Katara some leadership moments (particularly when Aang isn't around) and Aang more of a mature, considerate approach with Katara, saying things like "I'm sorry I just left you to fight alone like that!" and "You're always asking me if I'm okay. Now it's my turn-- are you okay?"  The effort was definitely there to make Aang and Katara look somewhat more compatible than they let on. But things didn't really seem that promising in Legend of Korra... as Katara's character arc gets breadcrumbs of acknowledgement regarding what she did for the world outside of Aang's narrative.
It seems like Katara's badass individual characteristics were written second only to whatever she needed to be for Aang, including being the primary parent to his non-airbender kids while he focused on the air-bending culture.
In any case-- I'm almost certain Bryke will be bending over backwards to "fix" all of these flawed elements of Kataang and Aang as a father figure in the upcoming animated feature films, because if there's anything Bryke likes to do... it is "tell" us that Aang was a great guy and there absolutely was no other better person for Katara.

Look, I understand the desire for a revolution. I do. And it’s possible I might be convinced that we need one, at some point. I am open to the idea that I might be wrong!
But…literal Marxist theory posits that the way you get to a communist society is by working your way through a democracy. That’s the first STEP. Then you move to democratic socialism, then socialism, then communism. Anything that moves us away from a democracy (as I’m concerned another Trump presidency would, that man wants to be a dictator so bad) is a step AWAY from a leftist agenda. Because sure, maybe you get your ‘glorious revolution’ if Trump is president because he literally makes living conditions so unbearable that it triggers widespread revolt but from a critical Marxist standpoint you’d be revolting to get back to a democracy so you can start at that step all over again! This is a big reason theorists posit socialism/communism in the Soviet Union fell apart; too big a change too quickly and skipping steps in between.
We also have to consider that getting to the point of full blown revolution would mean catastrophic levels of suffering for people with lower socioeconomic power—POC, the queer community, folks in poverty, people with disabilities, etc.
AND any US dictatorship or similar government has an entire industrial military complex to back it up. A successful revolution would necessitate either getting that military complex on board, in which case you often end up with a military dictatorship (you can imagine how well THAT goes) or beating it which…I’m sorry, even the entire civilian population of the US cannot do. The military is light years more advanced than it was in Marx’s time, rebellion is so so so so much more complicated. It also sets a precedent for violent exchanges of power that tend to set countries up for a decades/centuries long tailspin of military coups in which the people with the most gun power (again…usually not vulnerable groups) win control.
I’m not trying to be a fatalist, here. I actually think fatalism is a tool of the oppressor and we have to fight against it tooth and nail. I’m just trying to logic out what will happen if Kamala/Walz lose and Trump/Vance win. What does that really look like? What is the next step, the next outcome that will lead us to a better place? And I just cannot, for those reasons above, see a Trump presidency leading us anywhere good. That IS what we will get if people hold out on voting for Harris as a form of protest. I’m all for protest!!!!! But it needs to be in a different avenue, because you have to consider the real life repercussions not voting will have.
I mean, what are the options? What happens if people protest by not voting? (...this assumes you don't start from the position that Harris and Trump will be literally NO different in office, which, well, that's another post)
1. Harris wins regardless, but a signal is sent that people to the left aren’t appeased and democrats need to do more. How effective this would be in moving actual policy is debateable, and it also puts the moral onus/responsibility conveniently on others just so you can feel like your hands are clean while simultaneously risking a worse outcome. Not cool.
2. Trump wins. Far more likely because, as we saw in 2020, the country was nearly evenly split on Trump vs. Biden. Current polling shows more or less the same with Trump vs. Harris. If the left stays home, the likelihood Trump wins skyrockets. So, what happens next?
2.A. Trump wins, but the world doesn’t end. He doesn’t do anything too terribly awful. The left has ideally signaled they will only vote for a Dem if they are liberal enough. I seriously doubt Trump won’t do anything too terribly awful though—look at what his first presidency did!!! Look at Project 2025!!!!! So. Other option.
2.B. Trump wins and the world is on fire. He strips away womens’ rights, queer rights, he tanks the working class and worker protections, starts a war, starts a dictatorship, whatever. He already started a lot of this during his first presidency. In this case, either…
2.B.1. This is still not enough to trigger a revolution. Vulnerable people are hurt and die at a far greater pace than under a Democratic presidency. We go on as before, fighting to regain key protections. Perhaps the Dems put forward a more liberal candidate to try and beat him next time, if democracy still exists, but likely? We end up with a conservative centrist anyway.
2.B.2. Trump does trigger a revolution. All I can see is how many vulnerable people would suffer and die. The military HAS to be involved and either takes control of government (terrible start to socialism!!!!!) or kills revolutionaries en masse and the rebellion fails. If civilians somehow defeated the US military, which is an astronomically low possibility, then we set up a more liberal democracy...how, exactly? With all the conservatives and moderates still in our country? Honestly, HOW. Kill them? Try and make them ‘see the light’? That happens via education, not a civil war. We could try and go straight to communism but theory and history show us that doesn’t work—you have to work your way towards it through democracy.
It is SO much more efficient and would put so many fewer vulnerable people in grave danger to start by keeping the democracy we already have by voting in Harris and THEN working on our protests to shift the needle towards democratic socialism. We’ve seen that these protests CAN WORK!!!!! They got us Biden dropping out!!!!! Harris picked a VP far more appealing to a liberal mindset than many of her other top options! WE ARE ALREADY SHIFTING THE NEEDLE. Keep it shifting, don’t give in to fatalism, and remember that you have to go through the steps to have an actual, stable, reliable socialist or communist republic. Vote.

Hi it’s the SU anon here I’m very sorry for how much I upset you, and I seriously wanted to piece tgt what I’m missing from the Jewish viewpoint so I appreciate u still being open to talking to me despite the ignorance. Also disclaimer I’m born and raised in Malaysia so I’ve not met an actual Jew in person until very recently in uni, so all I know is from the messy pile on the internet and I do genuinely learn from ur posts when I see them.
From what I see on ur blog u do show quite a lot of sympathy to the all the cruelty happening in Gaza, but don’t tolerate this being used as an excuse to target Israel/Jewish ppl. I do understand that the whole concept of pushing for an Israel/jewish ethnostate is very much entwined with the history of Jewish culture and the antisemitism endured through different times, so I think this is the part where I made the most ignorant statement on? After rereading what I wrote it might also have sounded like all Jews hold extremely reactionary views towards the word “ceasefire”? Pls do point out more of what upset u, I take full responsibility for what I said and pls stop this convo at any point if I end up offending u more.
Recognizing that you don't know something is the first step towards fixing it. It's good that you thought on your previous ask and tried to research it! But you're missing an awful lot so let's start from the top.
(As a reminder and so others can seee, here's the original ask)
"Hi, this a question abt ur opinion on what’s happening in Gaza just bc you’re one of my favourite blogs that goes deep into Jewish culture/issues. If at any point this question becomes annoying pls ignore.
Anyways so in my college SU meeting recently someone sent in a motion to make an official statement to condemn the war and call for immediate and permanent ceasefire + provide more support to the Jewish and Muslim/Arab students affected by increased hate in the community as well. This sparked a debate among those in attendance and of course there’s a few very pro-Israel voices that insists that a ceasefire will cause Israel to lose all ability to defend itself as well as many pro-Palestine arguments. The motion ended up discarded bc of procedural reasons but as someone who has mostly held a free Palestine view so far and has been hoping for a more inclusive Israel in the future, I don’t understand why stopping a war hurting both sides is taken as an Israel must disappear take by many. I always just accepted it as it’s probably got a lot more antisemitic undertone when it’s a Jew that hears it, but I really wanna hear ur take as well bc the debate I witnessed brought up very disturbing points that I can’t stop thinking about. Hope this didn’t end up sounding disrespectful and thanks for always sharing important Jewish viewpoints without undermining other social issues!"
First problem comes right with the opening sentence; "Hi, this a question abt ur opinion on what’s happening in Gaza just bc you’re one of my favourite blogs that goes deep into Jewish culture/issues."
Going to random Jews who do not post about the conflict and asking for their "stance" on it is part of a series of antisemitic loyalty tests and is extremely rude on top of it. Furthermore, speaking on Jewish cultures and issues and antisemitism is not the same as being experienced or knowledgeable on international conflicts.
And then your next paragraphs are of course riddled with anti-Israeli biases and examples that you've been listening to/reading propaganda uncritically, such as "wanting a more inclusive Israel" and in your more recent ask saying things like "I do understand that the whole concept of pushing for an Israel/jewish ethnostate is very much entwined with the history of Jewish culture and the antisemitism endured through different times". So you clearly have a basic lack of knowledge about both Israel and the conflict in general along with Zionism itself.
But, again, that's not an area I talk about much. If any of the folks who do talk about it, see this and want to go into it, please do! Just to repeat here, you shouldn't have been asking me in the first place.
Then, this part here, showed me that you have a history of dismissing antisemitism as Jews being overly sensitive "I always just accepted it as it’s probably got a lot more antisemitic undertone when it’s a Jew that hears it." And then that was compounded by your closing insult, "thanks for always sharing important Jewish viewpoints without undermining other social issues!"
And that closing insult told me that I had woefully failed in sharing any information about antisemitism at all. "Sharing important Jewish viewpoints without undermining other social issues". Jewish "viewpoints" and antisemitism are just as important as any other sort of bias. Pointing out antisemitism and sharing stories about antisemitism does not, and can not, undermine other social issues. It is not lesser. Honestly, I'm still kind of livid over that shot.

Galactik Football season 3 rewatch, eps 10 - 12
Episode 10:
So we open up with Yuki getting mad at Micro-Ice and thinking Zoleen is his girlfriend, and Mice is dumb enough to not reject that claim when she asks him directly if they're going out. He also barely acknowledges Yuki's birthday despite previously rehearsing this dramatic confession of love to her. Thran and Ahito are literally, and I mean literally the only Snow Kids that don't have any love drama going on (I know Mark's got something coming) and every single one has revolved around love triangles, whether misunderstood or not. I can't take this anymore, I'm at my limit.
Anyway, *hits play again*
Since when did this Cyclops dude have a wholeass funded show, when he wasn't even a proper journalist before?
WOOWAMBOO RETIREMENT RUMOUR?! SAY IT AIN'T SO!
Oh christ this is the start of the Sinedd parents arc isn't it. Holy shit they try to stuff so much into this season. But happy we finally got the backstory on Sinedd with him not being born on Akillian!
Tumblr media
I can barely watch this segment holy shit it's just so awful (in universe, I mean, not the writing). Not just because I know they're con artists but it's so sudden, Hush Sharky making a whole spectacle of this on live TV in front of an audience and Sinedd had NO IDEA that he was going to meet his freaking PARENTS. WHO HE THOUGHT WERE DEAD ALL HIS LIFE. This emotional and insanely personal moment being used for entertainment fits with the corporate hellscape that the show takes place in, but what the hell. He has the full right to be pissed at Sharky.
Not the con artist parents running off immediately when the ground starts shaking 😭 Parents my ass
lol of course Micro-Ice has to fall in the cake. I think they use him for slapstick too much in this season
Tbf I quite like the villains in this season, it's an interesting dynamic with Lord Phoenix having his own motives but losing control of Vega
Sinedd's reunion with his parents is a pretty sweet moment if it weren't for the fact that IT'S A LIEEEE ToT.
Aarch yelling at Artegor about Adim... all this drama...
THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTIINNNNGGNGNGG and it's so silly
Tumblr media
This is how I picture it
Is that the fucking Netherball music
The little TV spots with Yuki and Mei talking about each other before the match are cute! Makes the world feel more lived in and gives us some more interactions between the girls, even if not directly face to face here
I like Mei berating Sinedd for taunting Yuki when she's injured but... girl. He was always like this. You knew this. Why are you surprised?? They never actually showed him becoming a better person, just that he suddenly liked Mei and convinced her to join the Shadows. And Mei does not strike me as a poor judge of character so why would she date him....?
Wow Elektras not letting Mei through to help her friend? Why? They were literally celebrating her birthday together tf??
Poor Yuki, what a shitshow of a match for her although she did score a goal (I'm guessing the Breath is more powerful than the Elektra's flux since she's running in to attack). Loved her lil' chat with Mei though, I will say this season gave us more of the girls in the team being friends which I really do appreciate.
Here for the other Shadows players cooing and awing at Sinedd with his parents, I want to see more of what the team dynamic is like since they seemed to welcome him quickly back in season 1
Thran coming through with his tech knowledge!
Episode 11:
Does Bennett just carry a harmonica on him all the time haha
Tumblr media
Harvey fought in the flux war?? ok cool lore I guess?????
Corso wondering whether to trust Sonny just because he didn't bring up Magnus straight away is a bit weird? I just feel that with all they've been through, it would take more for Corso to start questioning his faith in Sonny. This is also like, a 5 minute plot point that goes nowhere so why???
Tia talking with her parents about her concerns is an improvement from what their relationship used to be like in season 1, it's good to see!
Oh so Mei is a striker now. Is this implying that Mei's decision was influenced by her mother? Weren't we over that?? Still kind of sad to see her mum dismiss the SK and seem like she's still the same. Mei probably feels she'll never be good enough for her.
Not Sinedd complimenting D'jok just to be polite to Maya 😂 But what do you mean they haven't met yet? It's literally this season (I think?) that shows Sinedd was friends with D'jok when they were young kids! Maya hangs out with Mama Ice at the cafeteria as well, there's no way they've never interacted before!
Yeah Tia, it WAS stupid of you to be jealous of Lun-Zia. Weird though bc the show previously implied Lun-Zia liked Rocket but turns out she had a boyfriend all along?
Aarch: Artegor? Aarch: I'm sorry we started a bit earlier today, I forgot to mention it
Aarch you're such a petty bitch 😭
Oooo Micro-Ice is up for kick-off. Seeing them antagonistic towards each other is so sad :( Although season 1 Micro-Ice would have found a way to roast D'jok lol
I just realised team Paradisia and the Elektras probably have visors so they can have more diverse character designs in the 2D animation, while still copy-pasting models in the 3D scenes lol
Go Mark! Why did the goalkeeper run out from the goal I don't know anything about football
Nice to see Mark and Micro-Ice working together and having fun
D'jok's plan being to pass to Nikki-4 because the SK will think he's too selfish to let someone else score is so fucking funny
Oooo you don't get penalty shootouts that often in GF
I do love and miss sassy D'jok
Nikki-4: I guess you'll always be a Snow Kid at heart D'jok: At least I've got one
Bold claim with the way you've been acting, D'jok
Niki-4 threatening physical violence on D'jok lmaoo I guess she is a cyborg but it's weird D'jok actually held out until now with the way he's been acting towards the SK. Why does he suddenly now have a moral dilemma?
Episode 12:
Now to rant about the Ahito betrayal plot <3
Ok this how to beat Ahito thing is dumb from the get go. It's treated like some big secret and it would be a big betrayal to reveal it, but that's not how sports work. They could easily have figured out his weak points by just watching a load of videos of his saves, in fact they SHOULD have been doing this anyway – the best teams don't win just by playing their best, but by knowing their opponent's strengths and weaknesses and being able to exploit that! It's not dishonest it's just... how it works! Rocket was doing this back in season 1 when he was suggesting tactics!
So to treat it like a big betrayal to reveal something that's easily obtainable public knowledge is dumb. And also, they're treating this as if knowing a player's weakness is some magic key that means they can definitely beat him if they exploit it, which is... also not how sports work!! It's not like he'll definitely fail to save your shot if you hit in a certain way, and it's not like he can't adjust his play after you score a goal. It just.... it makes no sense!!
It was also kind of weird to hear D'jok talk about wanting to win honestly when he was fouling Warren last match and got scolded for disrespecting the game, they made it look like D'jok fully only cared about winning now, whatever the cost, but now suddenly he's having second thoughts and doesn't want to betray a team he's been shit-talking all this time?
I also don't like that what made him cave in the end was mind control, it takes away a lot of accountability. It also would have fit more for D'jok to continue doing anything it takes to win, so he can realise he's wrong later and that he's just been using that to run away from his feelings. As stupid as this “betrayal” is, it should have been his low point showing how far gone he is, his big mistake, that he can then work up from.
Rant over <3
Nork, commenting on a player's health problems is just rude
Of course Rocket starts feeling ill the second he has to go up
THRAN SCORES!!! Nice to see him do some shots
Goooo Lun-Zia! She's been a good addition
Last season I got sad that Micro-Ice was the first to flunk his shot, please don't let me down this time
YESSSSS
D'jok: Ahito always jumps in place, a little more to the side he's gonna leap to. He can't control it, it's stronger than he is!
And THAT's the way to beat him? Totally foolproof? Bruh. If all the SK knew this and it's sooooo easy to score against him once you figure it out, surely Aarch should have.... I don't know, helped him train so that he doesn't reveal which way he's jumping as easily?? THIS IS EASILY DISCOVERABLE INFORMATION GUYS THE POINT OF TRAINING IS TO IMPROVE ON YOUR WEAKNESSES
NOOOOO TIA OF ALL PEOPLE???!!! I HAD TO TRADE A MICRO-ICE GOAL WITH THIS? 😭😭😭 It happens though. Also weird she's the first to use her flux so far for this like, it's penalties. You don't have to conserve your energy, just use the goddamn Breath!
TT^TT Nooooo they look so devastated :( On the other hand, kind of crazy it took three seasons for them to actually lose an important match lol it's been win win win the whole time so far, so kind of refreshing.
I want to cheer on Mei for putting Sinedd in his place after shit-talking the Snow Kids but like, girl, HOW IS THIS SURPRISING?! HE'S BEEN LIKE THIS IN EVERY MATCH YOU'VE PLAYED AGAINST EACH OTHER, YOUR LAST INTERACTION BEFORE SEASON 3 WAS HIM PUSHING YOU TO THE GROUND AND THREATENING YOU!!!
She thought he only hated D'jok and now she's realising he's just nasty to everyone? Girl where were you when he was bullying Micro-Ice on your team lol. I mean she didn't care back then but she does now! Mei is not dumb, writers
That was a pretty good pick me up speech, Aarch
Tumblr media
The animation makes this kind of funny out of context but, Artegor hesitantly reaching out to Aarch but then thinking better of it... aarrrrgh </3
Quick shoutout to the background designs in this show, they look really cool and I love how it's futuristic while still being colourful and bright. There's some beautiful art of the natural scenery too
What's up with reporters immediately wondering if a team is done for, or the coach might be resigning, after ONE loss? They're still GF champions, losing once doesn't mean it's all downhill from there
Adim standing up for her man <3
In this dub he calls her Mum-Ice lmao. So I guess it is just Mama-Ice? I do prefer the novelisation with her actual name, she's not mum to everyone, although I wouldn't mind having -Ice at the end of a name being some family tradition or cultural thing. Also love seeing her hanging out with Maya!
Poor Kernor just can't eat her ice cream in peace huh 😭
Aww Mama-Ice's speech is so sweet
Aarch needs a new start now more than ever? Why exactly?
Norata dancing in the back <3
Holy shit, Brim Simbra actually intervening?
Oooooo secret supplier guy was Harris all along, who would have guessed?
Huh looking at the ending screen of this youtube upload, I didn't know Robotboy was Gaumont animation too! Well probably Alphanim back then

There is one veilguard quest that I think missed its mark but could have been great with just a little nudging, for those curious
The gloom howler. I haven't read the book, just summaries, but wasn't isseya trying to put the griffins through a joining ritual? She wasn't going 'oh let's give our war beasts magical steroids' she was trying to save them. Trying to protect them from the consequences of their natural behavior. because assan's natural desire to attack blight/darkspawn is pretty much the first thing we learn about him. Griffins attack the Blight, that wasn't trained into them, and the Wardens wanted to give them the same immunity to the taint the Wardens have.
And how much richer, how much more inevitably tragic, does the story become by that single adjustment to the motives of the Wardens back then? They weren't trying to make them stronger, they weren't trying to win a war, they were trying to protect their friends. What odds would you be willing to risk to protect your dog from a horrific death from rabies, especially if YOU are immune, so you know it's possible, you just have to find out HOW
And they try and try and it doesn't work and it loses them the griffins forever. And Isseya, who led this effort, who tried and tried and tried, carries that guilt to her calling, to what is meant to be her death, only - she doesn't die. Magic or Blight or spirits, part of her goes on, remembering less and less except her failure, that if she'd only gotten it right there would still be griffins.
And then! There are griffins again! And she has to try again, she HAS to, because if she gives up then every griffin who died as she tried to figure it out died for NOTHING. she has to try again. And again. And again. To make it worth it. And then the only way to stop her is to kill her - or to show her that feather. To remind her that it's over. Even if she got it right this time, they're still dead. Her griffin is still dead. It always will be.
And the weight that would add to davrins choice. You are not now wondering if the Wardens can be trusted to not be so selfish and short-sighted, but can they be trusted not to try again. Not because they may not love the griffins enough but because they may love them too much. They may love them to the point of extinction.
And on a meta level, the parallel that has to Solas. Because every awful thing he did was for love. He left the fade because he loved mythal. He destroyed the titans because he loved mythal. He created the veil because he loved mythal. He will not stop because if he does everything he has done was for nothing and he can never be forgiven. And you can fight him or you can show him that feather of mythal and remind him that she is gone. she will still be gone. That there is no back, no forgiveness, there is only the future and trying to soothe the hurt you caused. And what you lost will always still be gone.

Anyone else annoyed with the foreshadowing stuff for team black using the team green stuff. I mean im annoyed...(I feel like I'm in the minority but i want to tell still...you can ignore this if it is dumb)
1. Why are they making a big deal out of creepy!viserys refusing milk of poppy and sticking it out for his "only child" when in the books he is just obese and goes out that way. I'm annoyed coz this is aegons main plot point and was the few things i liked about him (his bond with sunfyre was another) : that he wants to be there for his family and milk of poppy numbed his senses so much that he lost so many and doesn't want to lose the remaining people he has by being unconscious eventhough he is in severe pain.
2. Vhagar roared and was super pissed when aemond lost his eye: they just ignored that and when rhaenyra gave birth to visenya they put a scene for her (which to me did not look aesthetically in place/ bad cgi maybe?), when it is known that syrax-rhaenyra bond is not that special...syrax even killed her son (i think the show will ignore and change this 🙄)
3. Laenas death scene: why the hell did they put that dumb "i want a dragonriders death by burning alive"??? No one says so in the books. It was the worst thing especially since she is a black woman in the show and they kill her violently and in the books where she is a white woman she has such a beautiful scene with her husband. Why can't they let her have a peaceful scene like that? Of course i feel it is to show rhaenyra in the end when she gets eaten/burnt (which i think they'll change to burn only) it will be some badass great awe inspiring scene. I dont like that they take away daemon/laenas love and treat laena horribly without thinking about the racial connotations. I can't believe ppl liked the change. (I know she's not green but still I want to talk about it)
Why can't the showrunners read and stick to the books and not take away the little goodstuff that the greens have and give to the blacks? Sorry for the rant.
Omg, anon, if you are still around, I am sooooo sorry. I started to answer this the day you sent it, stuck it in my drafts, and completely forgot about it.
It definitely does seem that way, that they transferred some of Aegon's book plot to Viserys. I definitely think they are going to dumb down Aegon's injuries and have it not be as bad as it is in the book. Especially since Viserys rotting away was not in the book. And it's fascinating to me with how shitty of a father they made Viserys when in the book he actually does give a flying fig about his other children, Helaena is particularly close to him and brings the babies to visit him all the time, while in the show they transferred that over to where she brings the babies to Alicent instead.
I will forever be ticked off they cut Vhagar having a fit when Aemond had his eye cut out. And it's really interesting to me how the show laid it on thick that Rhaenyra and Daemon have perfect bonds with their dragons and Syrax feels Rhaenyra's pain, but we didn't see Sunfyre at all and Aegon's bond with him was supposed to be incredible, the same with Dreamfyre and Helaena, and the time we see adult Aemond with Vhagar, he loses control over her.
Laena's death was terrible. That was not empowering, and anyone who thinks so is weird. Her death in the book was...idk, for lack of a better word, soft. Laena's life in the book was much happier and much more fullfilled. She was able to travel around with her family, visit Driftmark, have two beautiful babies, had her bestie Rhaenyra coming to see them all the time. Her death was heartbreaking because she wasn't able to get to Vhagar for one last ride. But it wasn't that garbage that the show produced.
I totally understand the frustration! It definitely makes me nervous about season 2, since we are heading into the first huge battles of the war, and new characters being introduced. My witch queen Alys is on the way and I am soooo concerned they are gonna make her a secret black or something. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that they are going to stick closer to the book this go-around since Ryan Condal seems to be a huge book fan. And GRRM is supposedly (just a rumor I heard) going to be in the writers' room as well. But honestly, my biggest worry is time. They still have shitloads of material to go thru and the showrunners seem determined to wrap this up in four seasons and season 2 is ALREADY 2 hours shorter. That is a immense concern of mine.

What if your companion just left you?
Bioware really did like toxicity in 2011 and in later years, don’t you think? Dragon Age 2 is the first game in Dragon Age series that doesn’t tie up your general bad behavior to your companions’ ability to leave the party. If you feed their rivalry and have it high enough or maxed, they will not leave. Companions only leave in very specific or quest related circumstances if not maxed, like for example:
Fenris leaves if you put off his personal quest in Act 2 for too long and tell him to screw off. And in Act 3 you can give him up to Danarius and companions that are with you won’t even protest, won’t fight you, won’t leave you in protest to what you did. Fenris will also leave if you sided with Orsino unless you maxed his friendship or rivalry. He can be persuaded to come back later on, but if you fail, you have to fight him afterwards.
Isabela can leave in Act 2 if your Rivalry or Friendship aren’t high enough. If you have high enough points on either end, she will come back, and you can still give her to Arishok.
Mage companions will leave you if you sided with Templars at the end of the game, unless you had maxed their rivalry or friendship.
If you don’t kill Anders while having the DLC with Sebastian, Sebastian will leave. But it is also at the end of the game.
Anders can leave after dissent if you agree that he should (so he needs your input and approval to do so, won’t do it on his own). He can also leave if you didn’t kill him and let him go, but sided with the Templars. If not maxed, you will have to kill him later on.
All of those technically use Friendship/Rivalry meter, but in the long run it is just the rule of “if you weren’t sufficiently good or awful to them, they will leave”, not the rule of “if you are awful they will leave”. They simply leave if you didn’t pay enough attention and gain enough points on either side, depending on the specific quests. It follows a rule of neglect in either friendship or rivalry. Which is a completely opposite of Origins where gaining -100 approval points with your companions literally meant they will leave you to fend for yourself and fight Archdemon alone as per the rule “you were an awful person that I won’t follow”. What’s more, DA2 keeps it so that if you lose companions, you will never lose all of them. You will still have one tank, one mage and Varric, who stays with you no matter what, at the end in order to be able to finish the game at all. In DAO however, you can end with one companion (Alistair) and fail to kill the Archdemon.
In comparison, the same year as DA2, Bioware released another game: Star Wars: The Old Republic, where in the first 3 chapters of the story you can have DS abusive and toxic romances with your companions. But those can’t leave you AT ALL. You can be an awful slaver that treats Vette poorly and still romance her. And even when you get separated from all of them, they all can still come back to you, they show willingness to come back in some cases, and you can decide if you want them back or not. You can push Jaesa all the way to the Dark Side, and she will come back later and if you don’t take her back, she will be locked out, but you can also kill her there.
You can ofc also have LS romances and ignore DS ones, but if you wanted to romance Jaesa specifically, it is impossible to do so in those first 3 acts if you didn’t play as a man and weren’t pushing her and yourself towards the Dark Side. She is the only companion locked out like this, as her LS romance was only added in 2021.
I can’t stress how much better it would be if in DA2 we got several different romance configurations depending on the amount of rivalry and friendship points we gathered, as well as a rewrite of the rivalry romances to be more like actual rivalry and less like thinly veiled abuse. Rivalry can be healthy. It doesn’t have to be toxic.
Anyway, in comparison to DAO and DA2, Dragon Age Inquisition goes in a complete different direction when it comes to measuring approval. The system technically still exists, but you as a player don’t see the bar, you don’t see your results, you don’t know how many points “approves” gives in comparison to “greatly approves”, so you can’t engineer your romance path in a way that you knew from the previous two games, but that change also kind of simulates dating behavior from real life. In real life, you also don’t know how much someone likes you, and you can only guess how much your date liked something. Still, I can observe a visible trend of “avoiding writing companions as people with principles” which was prevalent in DAO and gradually started to disappear till in DAI the only companions that can leave on their own if they hate you are Blackwall and Cole. Dorian threatens to leave, but still needs to be punched to actually leave, so he needs your direct input for him to do it. The rest won’t unless it was already pre-written (Solas) or were affected by a quest (IronBull can turn against you in DLC if you killed The Chargers). Sera can’t leave, you have to kick her out, which is very out of character for her as a Red Jenny to stick around if you were the most awful person in the world. Cass, Viv, Varric and Bull can hate you and still stay.
Some could say “they can’t leave, because Breach threatens everybody”, but that argument was also true for the Archdemon case. Blight threatened not only Ferelden, but every nation close enough. Having an option to fail was something interesting that taught you how to not play if you wished to finish the game.
The system used in DAO was so far the best. It encouraged you to be friendly with your companions and punished you for being a toxic, abusive asshole that doesn’t care about them. It literally told you that if you want to save the world you need help, because you are not a god, you are not an independent entity that can do everything on their own, that people around you are not only needed but enrich your experience and you as a person if you treat them right.
I wish that system was kept till the end, but it wasn’t.

Months predated by years followed by weeks.
I've been under a lot of stress and pain for years from things that should honestly already be out of my life, but due to the government and law being corrupt, there is really nothing I can do to get rid of some of these things. Other things are caused by myself, by others, and by money. But, no matter how I look at it I still feel like I can't eat as much every day, and that drinking water is hard besides just the awful taste from the tap. The stress from years of my life that has never been remedied is just something I have to constantly live with, and it only gets worse day by day because of some of the most rotten evils in this world. My life is a spectacle to the Devil to see how long he can deliberately torment somebody before they finally get cut a break. Not that I'm Christian or anything, just thought it was a good analogy. Some times it really does feel like I'm in a perfect hell. I'm never able to do any of the things I actually want, and they aren't all that complicated either, it's just that the totality of circumstances makes the impossible. I'm missing the prime of my life all because of a corrupt world. I'd say "I wonder if this is how young men felt going off to fight in World War 2." But if I'm being honest, I'd enjoy war. I'm not kidding either. As cringey as it sounds, I'd rather be a mercenary at war than be here right now. Think about it this way; if nobody wanted to do it, why would anybody be a mercenary? It's definitely not for the pay. I'm just one of those people. Every time I've gotten the opportunity to enter into a fight with another person, those have been the best moments of my life. I want to travel long distances, fight great opponents in multiple fields of martial arts, and live out the life that I know I deserve.
Tumblr media
This is a movie that, as a child, made me relate to the main character. So few movies so perfectly depict the kind of person I want to be as The Princess Bride. A man of style, class, intellect, and martial prowess. And the way he goes about showing others that he loves them is just so genuine. It's not like I grew up any particular way, being raised by any particular person or people, in fact I was basically raised by myself and that fit just right for me. But, I found it in myself to still become a pinnacle of what a person should be. Not some politic obsessed freak, not just another annoying face in the crowd, but someone with a high IQ and real potential and talent in the things I actually care about. And most of all, I still care about humans. It seems like we live in an age where everyone else has lost faith, and I understand that. But, losing faith is a cop-out. You just lost faith because you got tired of being disappointed every time you heard something you thought was bad. What are the actual chances of that thing you were disappointed in being actually bad though? Depending on the type of person you are, it probably wasn't as bad as you think. Sure if it was something ACTUALLY horrible, disappointment is fair. But if someone just has a different political belief than you that you disagree with, you have no right to be disappointed even if it is some obnoxious modern liberal. Even if you aren't Christian, a teaching from the bible is very important to being a better person and learning proper morality; "Love thy fellow man."
I think it's honestly been long enough, and something has to change soon. I can only gather all my determination to keep going so many times in my life. To say that I've been blatantly fucked over by things entirely out of my control is an understatement. I just want to go out and do combat sports on a competitive level, go to a job where I clean stuff, invent cybernetics, become immortal, and live a happy life. Four out of five of those things aren't that much to ask for, and I'm fairly confident if I complete the cybernetics step I can complete the immortal step. Either way, this is just a blatantly unfair and clownish world we live in where millions of people in the west are obsessing about fake non-issues that they are misinformed about instead of actually doing something to benefit society. Cry all you want, it doesn't make anything better. Pretend all you want that there is some kind of oppression against your specific people. It doesn't make anything better by pretending there are issues which don't actually exist, and it's blatantly narcissistic.
I'm thinking about actually pursuing combat sports even despite my impossible circumstances and lack of financed to get things like protein. I think I can make up for it all with my tremendous strength of will, (and incredibly thick skull.) The fact someone like me is still alive is a testament to just how much you should be afraid of me. Maybe I'll try to get a pro boxing license and start there, I'm not too big on all the wrestling holds, it's just too easy to get someone into an arm-bar and have them tap cause they don't know the tech to get out of it. To be fair that's more civilized than KOing a guy, but I'd still rather trade skillful blows than memorized techniques. You can fight for points all you want, fight to wrestle, fight for a knockout, I fight for fun, and I still haven't met a single person who can stand up to me in that regard.

I really liked this arc for him, because of what you said, yes, but also because it's Stede breaking away from his pirate fantasies. Stede's piracy is a fantasy. He leaves his stifling, unhappy marriage to a life of freedom on the seas. He wants to have personal freedom, glory, acclaim, people who admire him, because his previous life has been lonely, with no friends, no-one enjoying his company, nobody approving of him, and him having no personal freedom and choices for his own life.
And he gets that, by running away to sea. In a way. The Revenge and its community is a bubble, a small island of good life in the larger world of piracy. This larger world of piracy has some good bits, but it also has lots of bad bits. Ed has lived in this world of bad bits for all his life, and it's hurt him so much that he couldn't stand staying alive in it anymore.
Stede doesn't see piracy like that (before episode 7). Stede still has an idealised, better version of piracy he lives in, a world that only exists around him. He shapes this world, by his own good qualities. He teaches his crew kindness and compassion, it goes so far that even Izzy is changed by Stede's values and example, but outside of Stede's very small sphere, piracy isn't like this. Piracy is the world of backstabbing and murder, of torturing and settling people on fire, of constant threat of death and trauma. And this is the world that Ed needs to escape from.
And Stede, up to this point, doesn't see it. Stede hasn't truely lived in this world of bad piracy, because for him it's been full of adventure, and finding friends in his crew members, and falling in love. I think narratively the point of this arc is to show Stede the dark side of piracy so he can understand why Ed wants and needs to leave this life.
And it's done really well, because Stede sort of speedruns the life of notoriety. It's cool at first! Everyone likes him! People recognise him in the streets! But then it's drinking too much. It's going with people's expectations and peer pressure to do bad things. Within a day of being a notorious pirate, Mr "I don't like coconut wars or turtle vs crab" sets a bloke on fire in the street because that's what his crowd of admirers wants (and it's what he needs to do in order to keep his position of being cool and respected). Then he finds that keeping things like a romantic relationship isn't actually compatible with his pirate glory life, either. And then he finds out how quickly he can lose all this fame, how a single failure to meet the standards means he's being abandoned by his "loyal" followers, how nobody ever actually liked Stede, no, they liked the idea and image of the Gentleman Pirate.
The fame is empty. It's meaningless. Piracy is not some amazing paradise. It's a human culture with many flaws. What made it good was the community he'd found/built on the Revenge, and what had actually made him happy had not been being a pirate, it had been falling in love and being together with someone (Ed) who gets him, who likes all of him, not just a mask he wears.
OFMD is fond of its narrative parallels, especially with the main couple, and I think this one was really well done, especially given the short time they had for this arc. At the end of it, Stede is not in the same position Ed is in. He doesn't have years of trauma and a near suicide behind him, but he loses basically everything in the course of a day, by giving in to his worst impulses and falling for the allure of fame, for lashing out at his friends when he's heartbroken over Ed leaving (parallels!) and in the end he is in a position to actually see why Ed can't go back there anymore.
Stede leaving piracy behind with Ed makes sense and is satisfying because of this arc. Before it, piracy was fun for Stede, and awful for Ed. Stede would have left this life for Ed, which wouldn't have been great as a happy ending feel. But Stede doesn't only leave piracy for Ed. He's had his go at it, for real. He had the fame and the notoriety, the admiring crowd, he got what he thought he wanted, and it nearly destroyed him and it nearly destroyed the relationship with his friends and it nearly destroyed his relationship with the love of his life. It was a nice dream, but reality didn't hold up. (As for parallels, also Ed's fantasy of aristocratic life is very quickly crushed, and he moves away from it.)
Stede's brief run as famous pirate helps him to realise that what really made him happy wasn't any of that, it was other things. First and foremost his love for Ed, because he didn't return to sea because being a pirate was so awesome. He also returned to sea because he belonged in the world of piracy more than in the world of high society, sure. But he primarily returned to sea to find and reunite with Ed. For love. And by the end of the season, Stede and Ed are back together, finally fully committed to each other. They don't need pirate adventures. They just need each other, and a peaceful life where they can heal and grow as people.
I want to talk about Man on Fire.
Stede's arc in this episode is one that a lot of people struggle with. I think it's a great episode, but I don't think you're stupid if the transition from Stede feeling bent out of shape after killing Ned Low in s2e6 to him happily setting a man on fire in this one feels abrupt and jarring. This episode really could've benefitted from some extra time and I honestly think they did it a disservice by not airing the last two episodes together (if it was up to me after seeing it all, the release schedule would've aired Calypso's Birthday on its own so the last two could air together), but I think we can still put together what we're supposed to take away.
The scene where Stede happily sets a man on fire, I think, is the focal point of this episode. I mean, they named the whole episode after it, we're obviously supposed to think it's important! So let's go through it.
This whole episode, Stede has been getting the approval and validation he's been longing for his whole life. It's no coincidence it's almost exclusively other men we see fawning over him - Stede's pain in the last episode is hinged around how he still felt bad for killing Ned, and how he wishes he was able to do "a man's work" as his father depicted it without emotion.
S2e7 is him seeing that wish through. It's also not a coincidence that Stede remembers his father in a blood-spattered leather apron and he spends this episode seeking the approval of another older man in a blood-spattered leather apron. The costuming in OFMD is always extremely intentional so I'm confident we should understand that as a sign of where Stede's mind is in this episode.
Tumblr media
You know what the whole man-on-fire scene really reminds me of? When Stede is telling his pirate stories to a bar full of his peers in s1e10, and he badmouths Ed when they ask him what Blackbeard is like. He backtracks from "he's absolutely lovely" to say Ed is "a bloodthirsty killer, born of the devil" - something he had to know damn well would absolutely fucking break Ed's heart if he heard Stede say it. In the moment, all he could think about was what he had to do to get a crowd of his peers to approve of him.
The same thing's happening in this scene. All Stede cares about is how he said a cool thing and everyone laughed!
Just like the scene in s1e10, I think we're meant to be watching this and thinking "Stede buddy wtf are you doing?" It's a moment of regression in Stede's character arc, just like him talking bad about Ed was; Stede is kind and lovely and he's abandoning the parts of himself he thinks are too soft to appeal to a crowd of people he wants to admire him.

Tomorrow Live Blogging
Thought I'd watch a cute GL or BL after finishing Alice in Borderland since that was pretty high stakes and stressful but here I am a few days later, once again starting a high-concept show. There's no romance tag on MDL, so I hope that's at a low
Ep 1: (May 25)
I don't know if I like this beginning. It's a bit cringy and I know this ~threat of death~ to people who are suicidal is supposed to be cool but it doesn't work for me
lol rip our mans (Choi Jun-woong) losing to nepotism
pls this fight to stop this guy from committing suicide
bro why are the grim reapers so cringy
Do I want to watch this show with this much over-the-top humour...
damn these managers are all so annoying
I like Jun Woong and Jade Emperor Director's interactions
oh, is the writer somebody who bullied that interviewer woman?
the memory part feels like I should feel some sort of urgency but I just don't
the epilogue is also cringy
Ep 2: (May 25)
okay you know last episode I was like oh her crying kinda sounds like laughter but now I realize it's supposed to be like that
man i didn't sign up for a school bully storyline rip this is terrible
ah Eunbi having to even transcribe the interview poor girl
So the other guy is looking for something and that's why he always leaves on the dot
I'm just not a fan of her yelling at the victims and then blaming them as a way to dissuade them
so cringy the way she had Eunbi fall and then caught her
Junwoong bringing someone Eunbi used to like is funny/cute
the revenge part of this is also kinda cringy rather than cool
the hell backstory of Kuryeon could be cool
lolol the epilogue of how Junwoong got the mans to come to see Eunbi
Ep 3: Forest of Time 1 (May 25)
I shouldn't be starting this new ep truly, I haven't done much since work ended but oh well
aw Junwoong's father's death anniversary
wait friendshipppppppp yes, Junwoong and Jaesoo friendship since high school and now he's gonna have to save Jaesoo
woah friendssss Junwoong knew what to send to Jaesoo to get him to come out and Jaesoo literally raaaaan to see Junwoong in the hospital because of it T.T
the straw in the caaaan
aw shucks he's gonna get his insurance money if he dies
man this is so fucking sad, I guess I should've been prepared but seeing this poverty suddenly is really just
oh by the way what happened to interacting with people in the last episode vs this one?
ah the life insurance
plsss this epilogue T.T both Junwoong and the Grim Reaper serious man getting conned by cult members because of the mention of Director
Ep 4: Forest of Time 2 and Tree 1 (May 25)
I'll finish up this episode for today and then stop since these drama episodes are in pairs
predetermined predestined chicken by Jumadeung
ahh Jaesoo saying Junwoong sent all of you, right?
friendship T.T
aw Jungwoong making sure his younger self gets to see his dad for the last time before he goes away on business and dies
the problem is I think the next storyline is starting... but I shouldn't watch that now
Kuryeon and the grim reaper man's history
bro this lady and her stalking her husband into liking her lol they're kinda cute though
Ep 5: Tree 2 probably? (May 26)
I was going to just stop watching this and go to ep 15/16 and finish up but I looked at some reddit on-air threads on r/kdrama that said ep 6 was soooo good, so I'm gonna watch ep 5 on 2x speed and get to that
some sort of Reaper's Guarantee of Responsibility
I'm sure this story was good but i didn't care
Ep 6: A Soul Becomes a Star (May 26)
ah finally this is so touching, this old man T.T
old man as young volunteer of the korean war
this man's sad-ass life T.T I can't
(Linguistics) also Dongchil using informal you and banmal with the old man even though he's his hyung bc he's so mad
I know Escort Team Leaderwill show up in hanbok and stuff to escort the old man out but it's funny that he also asked Jade Emperor to give him a peaceful death right before she did
we'll never escape the cringy fight scenes
ohhhh Escort Team Leader was also in the same Korean war troop as this man? I thought mans was a lot older? Or actually I think he was there to take some people's souls from that war and saw him then
This whole Escort Team and Jade Emperor coming from this man is still cringy but at least it's touching this time
old man's name is Lee Young Chun
I still have half a mind to just drop the show but ig I'll just watch the episodes I think are good and 2x + skim the rest
Fave Ep so far
Ep 7: (May 26)
I'm gonna skim through this because I don't feel like watching an ED case now and also the on-air thread said the recovery/ending part of this was badly done
it seems like a fun episode with a lot of humour but I don't actually care and the humourous clapback to weight stuff is still
Ep 8: (May 26)
oh the on-air thread mentioned stuff about Kuryeon and Joong Gil but I didn't expect it to be the first thing of the episode. I too am curious about their history
wait I like this, an inside job type of thing. Jun Woong infiltrating a suicide pact group
oh wait was that man Betamale actually the Grim Reaper or something? or in kahoots with the reaper? he was indeed the one who got everybody drunk and was the only one who didn't leave
oh I really am more of a fan of these thriller sort of storylines with a fucked up people and villains and scenarios than the regular slightly fantasy where the mission is to save people
oh betamale grim reaper killed some of these people as well? or is he trying out a new thing by attempting to kill Junwoong with his own hands?
becoming disabled as a source of punishment i don't like it but it's common
how much do Kuryeon and Joong Gil remember about their past and the nightmare that Joong Gil has?
heh the epilogue with the business card consequences
2nd Fave Ep after ep 6
Ep 9: Someday, Because of You (May 27)
I know this is about pet stuff, so I'll just skip through those and watch parts that are about the lore or group dynamics
oh so they each remember their last life but not previous lives, so Kuryeon and Joong Gil know each other from an earlier life - which is Joong Gil's nightmare unless she's lying
ahhh Junwoong having to learn his mother is sick and his sister is taking time off school to secretly private tutor kids to make money. oof seeing them go trough a hard time but not being able to do anything
aw he had to save his sister, no wonder he ran to protect her
aw poor dog :<
oh the dog has regrets too
ohhh he found the person he was looking for? past love
Kuryeon also remembered Joong Gil in a past life
Ep 10: Breath (May 27)
oh so it was indeed them in their last life? "you killed the person he loves" and she committed suicide?
I just remembered that ep 10 deals with a lot of victim blaming according to reddit
i hate this i hate this i hate this kill him kill him kill him
I was already thinking that although her family wants to punish the guy, it shouldn't be against her wishes and force her to endure everything that comes with it but now we know they yelled at her and blamed her first so just fucking fuck all of them fuck you
"instead of doing a 1-person protest and seeking revenge, go to her side and tell her you're glad she lived" like literallyyyyyyy
so is the woman who Ryung Gu keeps following around is his mother from centuries ago who killed herself?
Ep 11: West Sky (May 27)
Having one episode of it last episode was fine but I'm already tired of the visceral hatred of women and sexual violence storyline compounded with family accusing and demeaning the woman like I'm done idc fuck off i know he's a child but I'm tired of these storylines
agh fuck she killed herself over it fuck
I'm also tired of sexual violence against women being a story about the men related to them
ah yes fuck her she should die if she's a willing prostitute, it's only terrible if was raped and deserved if she wasn't, huh? blagh man I'm so done
oh yeah i am also annoyed that suicide is a sin here and that most of the people who committed suicide go to hell
the nose picking explained
bro we're doing this next ep too? his mom's gonna be suicidal and they're gonna have to help her? like bruh let's be done
Ep 12: West Sky 2 (May 27)
I've decided to skip most of this episode because idc, except for the team and dynamics stuff
fuck ass dream interference, this show is just irritating
ah sad meeting of parent and child for just a moment where the parent will soon forget and the child will go on being a reaper forever
okay so it was indeed not Joong Gil's last life, which is why he cannot remember but it was Kuryeon's last life that's why she remembers
Ep 13: Spring (May 27)
I know this is about comfort women and that's important but 3-4 episodes in a row about sexual violence against women is too much and I don't care about this show and certain aspects of how they handle things put me off, so I think I'm gonna mostly skip this.
damn, fights during war among the afterworld too
aw shucks, despite saying I probably won't watch, I'm watching cuz it's good
Yuni T.T oh noooo
I can't remember the new girl's name but I assume it's Yuni? Since she apparently died as a kid during Joseon vs Japan war
naurrr this ep and these girls' interactions and the meeting of Yuni again made me cry
New Fave ep, very good
Ep 14: Wildflower (May 27)
more Kuryeon backstory
who's the celebrity woman? Was she her friend or enemy? or wait is that her servant lady in waiting person? but idk Kuryeon seemed to be a bit resentful of her or something?
lol past Kuryeon and Joong Gil are cute but I wish they didn't look about 14 so that I could be more invested in them lol
oh yeah in the previous iteration of this flashback I was like oh interesting she still wears the red eyeshadow
why are they gossiping about her? just because she come back alive and they're assuming she had sex/was raped by the barbarians?
oh damn i keep thinking gop-dan betrayed rukyeon but she hadn't yet but maybe she was the one who spread the rumours
oh but she is protecting Rukyeon from the rocks, so I guess not?
I think that in a different show, I would've been annoyed like uhh why is this show veering away from the premise of saving people from suicide into a random Joseon era romance tragedy but here I don't care about a lot of the cases and think a lot of the stuff is cringy, so the cringy young love was par for the course and the tragedy of their married life was intriguing
Ep 15: Circus (May 27)
I'm not supposed to be watching this now cuz it's 12:20AM on May 28 but oh well, might as well
oh yeah Joonwoong is just being told all this without Kuryeon's permission lol
Joong Gil is just way too cruel about suicide man
idol storyline
oh Joong Gil really had wanted to forget his past life, damn
ah fuck
Joong Gil is just terrible
how will they wrap everything up in 1 ep?
Ep 16: Threads of Fate (May 27)
ah fuck it I guess I'll just finish it
ah, so he'd been reincarnated twice since his life with Kuryeon
kneeling tied up and beat up beautiful man <3 I don't like Joong Gil but I know a man in an attractive situation when I see one
oh yeah idk how I feel about Joonwoong and the idol Gon-dap like I guess they could be cute? but I don't feel anything toward them
aw he doesn't remember anything about the grim reapers D:
so are we assuming joonwoong and the idol fall in love?
man idk sure it's fine ig idk
Overall:
There were some episodes that were sooo good and others where I hated how they handled things or were just cringy or were boring. idk if the ending was satisfactory or not - I guess it kinda was? At least I wasn't mad about the ending. I skipped/skimmed some parts but also ep 13 made me cry because it was touching.
Rating: 6/10
