welcome to the cockles masterpost, a labor of love/insomniac hyperfixation.

i recently wrote this cockles manifesto, but after it got a lot of notes and i kept adding more links to it, i decided i should just go through my 8 years of archives and compile all the cockles posts in a much more accessible and navigable way. after everything with the series finale and destielgate, i figured we could use some happiness, and it turns out there are a lot of people who’ve never heard the cockles gospel.

important disclaimer: yes, i do think that jensen and misha have a private romantic/sexual relationship, but no i do not, in any way, think that they have ever cheated on their wives. we think they are polyamorous, which is a real and valid thing, and misha is openly poly. some people love more than one person, and that’s okay. their families are close and we love and support all of them.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? i used to be like FUCK IT WE SPEAK RUSSIAN but i cringe when i look back on those times (and have flashbacks to writing Japanese into Gundam Wing fic in highschool) which is to say, to each their own but if i can't speak it fluently or have a friend who does who can edit, i try not to include it in my own work

I’m Coolcat101s (that’s where I follow from) I’ve been rping on and off for over a decade now, but this is my first time rping in the dc community. My response speed and length varies but I’m online often. I’m primarily a mobile user.

Much like dc canon the ‘canonical’ (for lack of a better word) nature of any given story line is decided by vibes especially since this is a crossover friendly blog I figure this approach will help make things mesh best so if I ever have plot holes or contradict myself maybe that was a different continuity

Along that thought line while there are plots happening and time passing, because rping takes time I won’t say there’s like a set matching timeframe if that makes sense? comic time logic you know? Sometimes a day takes 3 panels and sometimes it’s 3 issues.

Posts are in character unless otherwise specified, but some posts are meant to be things that happen in the “real world” the stylistic chooses should make these posts obvious but I like to practice writing with my ocs so expect those sometimes

-the first goon job they ever worked for was calendar man when they were 17 and they currently work under riddler, penguin, scarecrow, and ivy

-they get robbed a lot because they have a resting smile and generally give the vibe of an easy mark when not hanging out with scary people (subsequently they hang out with scary people often)

-lives in a building owned by Red Hood but it’s debatable if they know that

Due to plot they are moving to the Manson family Manor that they inherited with their kids and bb

Artem also has an easy time learning instruments and perfect pitch but they don’t equate those to a meta ability (it is linked to their power though)

Rich in an old money way. Probably not well known by average people but press/other gotham elites might recognize the name. They’re like the 42nd richest family in gotham)

The fourth floor is magical and not accessible from the outside (the balconies still work somehow cause magic)

` 1. What is your favorite trope to rp?

[ … ] I am a big fan of any potentially angsty tropes. Ones like life or death situations that force the unlikeliest of people to rely upon one another to form a closeness that would not have existed without such extremes / external circumstances. Generally any plot where a deep relationship can be built between characters for better or worse, definitely is one I love.

If done well,  it can provide a very good opportunity for both writers to explore their muses in a high emotion,  high stress moment.  The impact of it can carry into future threads,  especially if it’s been built up towards or has been hinted at in the past.  When it’s well plotted,  it gives so much potential to explore a lot of different aspects of a character.  It’s great for romantic,  platonic,  antagonistic tensions,   &&.  it can provide the chance to change an entire dynamic depending on how muses react to what’s happening.  MWAH.

` 6. Name 3 things you love most about your muse/muses.

[ … ] Scrambled, but... Ultimately?  Bruce’s love of humanity &&. his surprising optimism regarding it,  his stubborn compassion that gets looked down on as naïve.  How despite the seemingly endless displays of darkness he faces   &&.   finds,  he is so set in finding the good that casts the shadows it hides inside.  You can’t have darkness without light,  it’s always there,  always a part of it.  He believes no one is born a monster or beyond saving   — they’re made,  shaped   &&.  formed through the traumatic trials they’ve faced. But that with enough effort it can be reversed.

He understands better than anyone else that all it can take is a single bad day to completely turn your world on its head,  can make or break a man depending on how close to the edge they’ve been pushed already — he himself is a result of it.  He wants to help.  I just truly do adore his stubborn,  bloody grit teeth optimism.  It’s born from his own experience being exposed to the horrors &&. despite the occasionally brutal, occasionally flawed methods he will use to handle some situations, it’s his subtle &&. guarded empathy regarding those within Gotham that I adore. His violence in attempting to tame it, his relentless fight to try saving what others feel is nothing more than a dying City, a lost cause   —   there’s always a choice.

His is to save his home regardless of how hopeless it feels.

` 7. What is one overrated roleplay trend?

[ … ] Over formatted replies.  It’s not a huge problem for me personally right now, but I do have issues with reading some over formatted replies, especially when I would get them from others in the past.   The aesthetic of it is absolutely gorgeous,  don’t get me wrong. I greatly admire those that can pull it off.

I understand there comes a lot of extra steps from picking fonts to adding &&.   selecting complimenting colours to really tie the entire response together in an artful display,  but I don’t know how else to word it outside of…  if there’s an excessive amount of breaks in some text via font change or bright harsh colours,  it throws me completely out of a scene I’m attempting to get invested in because my goldfish brain sees the sudden change   &&.   then fixates on that over the plot I was envisioning &&. then I have to reread it over again.

It’s so nitpicky, I know, it frustrates me endlessly because of how a written flow for me can easily be disturbed.  Just to reiterate,  it’s a thing I do adore seeing,  but if I am writing against it,  it makes it hard for me to reply at times so I usually ask people if it’s possible to tone it down with our threads.  Other than that,  that's about the only thing to come to mind regarding rp trends.

` 13. Is there one trope you can’t stand?

[ … ] I think… for this not much really comes to mind as I am usually open to trying new things so long as they are discussed beforehand in private.  I guess cheating as far as plot tropes go in rp threads or unnecessarily complicated love triangles.  Simply put it cuts too close to home.  I don’t mind people that do enjoy writing it,  but for me that’s probably the one thing I’ll outright refuse or avoid to write for personal reasons.

` 18. What is one thing you’d wish to see more in the rp community?

[ … ] This is an active issue in a lot of rpcs from what I have seen so far &&. I know I am also very guilty of this on my end — but just people being more active in poking eachother,  anxiety be damned.  I guess simply put,  community support?  Or rpc activity coming back again to where mutuals will actively hype one another easily,  tag eachother in dashgames,  aren’t afraid to kick in dms to screech about possible plots or rp replies.  I am definitely guilty of this myself   ( I am the worst with keeping in touch ooc because of irl issues right now   &&.   stress ).

A positive here, is I haven’t seen much of this in some rpc spaces as of late.  They sometimes tend to come off as a little cliquey especially in recent years so it makes it hard to stay active when you just don’t feel wanted,  you know?  But I am very happy to report since attempting to be more active rp wise lately,  the new faces I’ve seen on dash,  the mutuals made   —   people have been insanely welcoming again.  It’s been nice to see that supportive willingness to interact   &&. be so openly friendly.  I have been writing for a few years now,   &&.   it’s so nice to finally see a hint of that old wholesome vibe I used to notice back in the day making a comeback again.

` 20. Do you need music/noise to write or do you prefer silence?

[ … ] I will always need music to answer things. It helps me focus on a reply, &&. it gives me better chances of envisioning a reply scene more vividly than if I tried to answer with silence in the background. Muse playlists are a life saver!

29,178. I mostly write one shots lol

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently I have on my ao3 published fics for FFXIV, Pathologic, Resident Evil, Borderlands and Gotham Rogues. I don't really actively write for any of those except FFXIV and Resident Evil these days however, along with various Kamen Rider shows and some BG3 stuff.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

God this is gonna make me cringe cause it's all older stuff I don't like as much anymore lol except for the RE ones

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Surprisingly as much as I Love writing angst, none of my published fics actually really end on an angsty note. The closest would have to be "Doing Your Best (And Still Failing)" because it was written about my WoL A'cera after losing his first fight with Zenos during Stormblood, so it's a bunch of his raw emotions from the encounter.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably "Just Exhale", which is my personal take on the end of the MSQ for Endwalker with my WoL Alyx after they land back in the Ragnarok following the encounter with Meteion.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope, never have

9. Do you write smut? If so, which kind?

Only in my rp's with Tibby lol, or Occasionally something that won't ever get published that's just for myself. Usually it's oc/canon stuff that's just self indulgent for the sake of it ~

No lol it takes a Lot for me to enjoy crossovers unless it concerns toku stuff since those actually happen in canon

Hmm sort of? I hash out ideas with friends sometimes but I do all the actual writing for anything I publish myself

If we wanna go solely by what I've actually Published? Hades/Hythlodaeus/Azem or Wol, I really like writing my personally FFXIV stuff when I'm in the mood. If we wanna go off of unfinished wips by number tho? Hoffstrahm and Chreon by a fuckin mile, those two fucked my brain up for long spans of time

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Dialogue, it's the thing everyone always points out to me that they enjoy in my writing and it's usually always the starting point for my fics

Prose lol. I struggle so hard sometimes with connecting scenes and describing whats happening when people aren't actively speaking. I've gotten better at it but it took a lot of conscious effort to learn it

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I rarely do it, most things I write are in my native language media already, but whenever I do it I usually just italicize it, write it in English and make mention of the language switch in the paragraph somewhere so the reader knows it's happened

19. First fandom you wrote for?

DRAGON BALL Z BABEYYY I'm not ashamed of that I still love DBZ so much. I was so shameless and wrote my own oc to be Vegeta's cousin in one of my first fics and I had fun doing it. They've long since been deleted, not because I Wanted to do so but for other reasons I don't feel like going into rn.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

"Help Me, Heal Me" by far out of my published ones. It's my most solid out of them and I feel like I really nailed Chris and Leon's dynamic well in it, it's the one I'm most proud of ~

Basheerah “Bashy” Delaunay.

(Quick Bio for a very old OC of mine that I want to try to bring back. Need to edit my blog to include her, but here's a quick bio post)

A woman standing at roughly 5 feet and seven inches with warm green eyes, and red hair the color of which might remind a person of fall and autumn who at first glance would seem to be no one special. A first glance however missed much. The welcoming smile that might speak of a shop keeper, or a pole dancer. A sway to her hips, and a gracefulness that perhaps whispered of a confidence born from time spent in a temple of some sort discovering exactly who she was or maybe it was that of a courtesan who had spend her fair share of years enticing clients to her side. An easy flirtatious nature that welcomed all comers, and what felt like an utter refusal to judge anyone so long as they did not harm her or those she cared about made her quite easy to speak to. She could be twenty five, she could be thirty five, only she knew and she was not telling. The two things that were certain about Basheerah was that she was very friendly, and that she was very good with plants so good in fact it was how she made her living by being an herbalist. The rumors of her being a witch, or of a body found in an alleyway with mushrooms growing from it or a vine creeping out of it’s mouth of course had to be just that. Rumors.

I love AU’s so if you don’t see a verse set up just toss an ask at me, or message me and I will absolutely be willing to set something up. I can make Bashy fit into basically anything.

ZaunBashy : Basheerah is a relatively recent arrival who has learned just enough about Zaun to figure out how to open up a street stall for various things she makes out of plants, and plant like things. Mushrooms, moss, whatever she can scavenge. She made enough start up money for the street stall by pole dancing, and a bit of sex work. Is quite friendly to anyone that lets her be, but there's been a couple odd instances around her. Rumors of people suddenly collapsing, and mushrooms or something else emerging from their mouth or nose. Those rumors are accompanied by a hint that she might be some kind of witch, but the green eyed woman simply smiles and laughs it off. She's just an herbalist, and an alchemist after all. She makes teas, elixirs, tonics, herbal remedies, soaps, lotions and other similar things.

Because I have some mutuals set in Gotham/DC

GothamBashy: Runs a small shop for things she makes out of plants, and similar things. Lives above the shop in a small apartment. Has enough plants that people sometimes joke she must be Poison Ivy’s cousin (she’s not related, and always tries to ensure anyone making that joke understands that), and she is always happy to take in a new one or give someone advice on how to treat their own plants better. As always is an herbalist, and makes all of her own things. There’s rumors here, and there that she’s a witch or a meta or something else. Those rumors she laughs off. Basheerah always has some tea ready for anyone that needs a fresh cup, and is willing to listen to most anyone talk about anything so long as you respect it when she has to step aside for a minute to take care of a customer or whatever all else.

If you’ve made it this far thank you, and congrats because you’ve earned some extra lore about Basheerah’s background. As a side note, no, your muse does not know any of this unless we’ve discussed it before hand. Spoilers beyond for things that may, or may not ever come out in actual RP.

Basheerah “Bashy” Delaunay is in fact far older than she appears. Rather than being in her twenties, or thirties she is in fact a few hundred years old or more. However she has a problem in that she only remembers bits and pieces of most of that time consciously, and a bit more in her dreams. Basheerah has had a very strange life in which she started out as a normal human woman who become involved in sex work, and than after ending up in a place filled with magical beings as well as monsters and beasts and other people eventually became a demigoddess. She would still very happily be in that world, and still be a demigoddess if it wasn’t for the fact that like so many other things one day that world came to an end. It was fractured apart into countless pieces with any survivors ending up across a hundred different new worlds, and dimensions. Because of that Basheerah has gone from human, to demigoddess, and back to mostly human except one seemingly who doesn’t age and is a wanderer. Her wandering can seem less dramatic than one might think as she prefers to settle down in any new place for a few years before leaving however at heart she is a woman forced to be a nomad whose soul now misses a home that does not and never will exist again and she knows for a fact it does not. Once she leaves a place she does not return, and unless someone else has a way to travel she does not get to reunite with people she has left behind.

The destruction of the world she came from has also fractured her soul into different pieces because of how closely connected to it she was, and as a result a lot of what she lived through is lost to her. If you were to ask her if she’d ever been a demigoddess she would probably just roll her eyes and laugh it off because of course not that’s impossible. However deep down inside there’s a sharp splinter of her soul looking for it’s matching portions that remembers. It remembers her power, and it still holds enough of that power within it to keep her alive and wandering and on some level searching for those other fragments. That splinter also has held onto a portion of her link to nature, and a strange ability many would call magical that allows her to work with plants and control or use them.

She seems happy and mostly she is however at her core she is still someone that once had more power than most humans could ever dream of, and a closer more intimate link with nature than most could possible understand. For as friendly, cheerful, flirtatious, and kind as she seems Basheerah is very well aware of a simple fact. Nature provides for everyone yes, and it continues forward with life and weather and wonders nearly impossible to contemplate. However nature will also destroy whole civilizations, or even species without blinking an eye.

A random humans life is no more important than that of some large beautiful jungle cat or exotic flower out in the middle of the rain forest. However it is also no less important either.

I have a Penguin mini-series called “Pain & Prejudice” somewhere. In it, a man commits a casual slight against Penguin, insulting him when he bumps into him on the street before, in horror, he realizes who it is and apologizes profusely. The Penguin laughs and tells him not to worry. But then oddly, the man finds himself fired at his job for embezzlement, his apartment burns down, his parents die in a very mysterious car crash, and a seemingly random person accosts his girlfriend on the street and injects her with something that doesn’t get specified but medicine hasn’t caught up to yet. All this goes to show just how cruel and petty the Penguin is, and just how much influence and power he has in Gotham. And I was thinking, it’s stated pretty often (though really not shown well bc I think writers often don’t know HOW) that Shaw has far greater influence, that the Hellfire Club has this on a global scale, that Shaw in particular can reach “princes, presidents, and popes” And again, not often demonstrated because you can’t punch that away, but we’re told he has it and I don’t doubt that. I think the reason we don’t see stories like this from Shaw is simply that he isn’t that petty. Penguin is portrayed as horrifically insecure and needing the love and approval, even if it must be bribed or forced, from all those around him, and punishing any deviation from that due to his trauma from bullying and abuse. Shaw very fucking blatantly doesn’t give a shit, there are multiple instances where he’s just “yeah I’m fucking asshole what about it” One of the few good moments he got in the Krakoa era was in a N.ew M.utants issue by Ed B.risson where a cartel leader calls him a swear and Shaw’s response is simply “That I am.” Which is not to say Shaw is a pushover—perish the thought!---but that he’s learned that the only opinion and approval that matters is his own. I say “learned” because we do learn in the backstory with L’s death that this wasn’t always the case. He’s horrified to learn of Ned’s betrayal, despite having been warned by L and T.essa, and concludes verbally that he let his own need for acceptance blind him to the truth all around him. So, at this point in his life, he did care about the opinions of others—namely, the uber rich, amidst whose ranks he had just been accepted, which makes sense—and it cost him the most important person in his life. Between that and the fact he clearly became more and more of An Absolute Bastard Man since that, one who is TEXTUALLY stated to no longer let himself be vulnerable to others and “handled relationships like chess games” out of the expectation he will always be betrayed, it’s no wonder to me he would stop giving a fuck what anyone things. Which is a cool way to be, don’t get me wrong, wish I was like that, but also isn’t coming from a place any less traumatic than Oswald’s, it just goes the other way because of different circumstances. And the point of this rant isn’t “Shaw is Better than Penguin bc Shaw isn’t petty” it absolutely is not. I actually LOVE Pengy, that’s why I own that miniseries! It’s just, it is often DIFFICULT to a play a muse with the power and reach that Shaw has, and not use it to godmod a whole bunch of terrible shit happening to other people’s characters who piss him off (which a lot do, that is the personal mission of more than one muse I write with!) like the Penguin does to that dude. Because like. . .I don’t want to do that, firstly it’s bad RP etiquette and second it would limit the characters I could keep interacting with. But Shaw is an incredibly powerful guy who very much could make life miserable (or over) for like…honestly, almost anyone he wanted. So it helps that I can just go “well he actively doesn’t give enough of a shit, you’re not worth the time to him that it would take to make those arrangements” But I am 1000% sure he could. (also: in the spirit of fairness to Pengy, he’s shown to be JUST as disproportionate in REWARDING genuine kindness shown to him and those he cares for as he is in punishing unkindness. For instance, when he sees the nurse who cared for his elderly mother is genuinely crying at his beloved mother’s death, he ensures she’s set for life. So his pettiness, ruthless and cruel as it is, also has equally generous aspects. Love that complexity!)

Might as well start here- A brief introduction to my rp multiverse

Throughout each of my roleplays and short stories, I like to look at each of them as a different universe. There are infinite universes, with infinite numbers of differences ranging from the miniscule to earth-shattering. However, I have begun to weave specific "canon" narratives within a few key universes. These specific realities often focus on specific characters in each, but EVERY character (outside of fandom OCs) exist in each universe to some capacity, though their differences are often dramatic.

Some characters, like deities, powerful sorcerers, and void creatures are aware of the multiverse and can travel to different universes at will.

The trickster demon, Azrael, was powerful enough to create a pocket dimension bar that can be accessed from any universe- so long as you know the ritual to do so. He also is able to travel from universe to universe, but mainly relegates himself to two key ones.

Two versions of a character CAN meet one another, though that's never been recorded as of this point.

Time works oddly in the multiverse, as some universes will be eternally stuck in time periods that suit their "genre" while others will progress with our own.

The key universes of note are

- New Brookhaven, a Gotham City sort of town where the film noire style is key, but technology has progressed significantly. Monsters and humans have tension with one another and gangs struggle for control over the city. On the outskirts, the Shady Pines Sanitarium holds some of the most dangerous and unhinged individuals from the city, both in cells and on the staff. It's haunted halls are urban myth for those in the city who don't dare go near it.

- Vernia, A fantasy world with a rich history of magic and warfare. The kingdom itself is a beautiful seaside location, bustling with life of all sorts of species. Outside the gates, the enchanted forest leads to a myriad of other kingdoms inhabited by various creatures. This is the universe where the goddesses of the seasons reside the most.

-Cutopia, a dystopian future where the citizens are bound to embrace the "kawaii" culture. What began as a way to distract from the horrors of the outside has turned into a demented toybox for the rulers to play with as they see fit, with the citizens as their toys. Those not complying are hunted down by genetically modified secret police and sent to "cutification" centers, where through several processes, they're brainwashed into the happy masses. Secretly, a rebellion is brewing to usurp the leaders and bring free will back to the people.

- Universe Prime is a Slice of Life universe, where every character lives pretty normal lives. Even monster characters are pretty accepted here, like other races of humans. This universe is mostly used for romance roleplays, and often has very little magic.

Sometimes, event roleplays will shake up the multiverse and make things cross over. For instance, Lady Eleanor, a knight from Vernia, could end up waking up in a universe that is very much like our own, and completely out of place as she looks to get back home. Or, perhaps your character will be whisked across the multiverse to find true love thanks to a helpful deity (or demon). The possibilities for crossovers are endless, and are usually due to meddling from Azrael or another "multiversal being"

Some of the universes I talked about have data entries of their own to be posted at a later date, as well as original character info on those that inhabit these worlds.

Backstory: Alicia Swann used to work at LexCorp in Quality Assurance and Document Control until she made a rather unfortunate discovery: Lex Luthor doesn't exactly want you to read those documents you're managing and organizing. After barely surviving a couple attempts on her life, Alicia fled to Gotham, where she decided to trade those LexCorp secrets she learned, and herself, to the Penguin in exchange for his protection from Lex. To the public, she's his loyal and infatuated girlfriend. To the criminal underworld, she's his personal assistant... working her way up to being his right hand man.

Rules/Important Info:

- Alicia's built with my particular Batman verse in mind (a cursed blend of BTAS, Arkham verse, and a little Adam West 60s as a treat), but I'm willing to play with other versions. At the very least, questions about other verses' Penguins might be treated as "rumors" about her Penguin she will weigh in on. Please feel free to ask her about some of the wilder takes on the Penguin we've had over the years lmao.

- Do keep in mind Alicia's more of a villain character, I can't guarantee she's gonna always be nice or say nice things. That being said, she probably won't start shit with you if you're not roleplaying as anyone she doesn't like AND if you don't start it yourself.
