I understand wanting to read fanfiction with good characterizations but I feel like some people are so picky to the point where if a character is even just slightly ooc or if the author decided to take some artistic liberties, then they act like it makes the story completely unreadable.

Sure, no one wants to read a fanfic where the characters might as well be completely different people but on the other end of the spectrum, authors shouldn’t have to painstakingly study every nuance of every character they want to write about just to produce a silly little story they’re supposed to be writing for fun. If you only want to view media with 100% canon compliant characterizations, then just consume canon and stay away from the fandom completely. Or at least stop complaining about it, especially to the authors.
