This is something that I've realized about myself a few years ago and still stumble with acknowledging, in my everyday life. I feel like society has breed this culture of wanting the best thing, reaching the next goal, achieving higher heights, which there's nothing wrong with that at all... but what it forgot to teach us or purposely left out was seeing and recognizing what we've already done. And i don't mean, briefly in the moment, but really reflecting on just how far we've already come. We've become obsessed with "on to the next" and somewhere along the way, list sight of "here and now". That's why i think nostalgia feeds constantly on our minds, because bout time we really think fondly of those things of our past, we're so far from it, blinded by the shiny new life we have yet to obtain. So I try to practice being present, as simple and even cliché as it might be. Because i can't tell you how many times I've gone, "i miss high school band", or "i miss the carefreeness of partying in college", or how simple my life was back in the day, at some random point in time"... but during those times, things might weren't perfect, so we hoped and wished and prayed to be done with it and move on to better. Yet, later wish to go back. The hard truth, with new prospects, bigger income, better housing, age... comes more issues or problems to face. Life will never be easier, maybe more complicated or exhausted. Being better isn't bad, being obsessed with is can be tough. You are enough. Not in a self help best selling book way, but seriously... you're here for a reason and there's nothing wrong with taking the scenic route, the forbidden route, the forgotten route, the new route or just the starting over route. You're in a race but get this, you're the only runner. Pace yourself, enjoy your life, even if it's shitty. Find something, if only just one thing, that makes the here and now worth just as much as the next. This is just my opinion of course and my observations, but maybe... just maybe you can feel what I'm putting down. Be blessed.
