I'm honestly so glad they introduced a new protagonist. Not just because Rook is a darling, but also because Inquisitor would have been a horrible choice for the story they wrote.
#🌞#🎮#ramblings#The Inquisitor is a character that is faceless and lacking in personality by definition. I ranted on and on that they foil Solas as#his Fen'Harel persona NOT the Solas core.#They lack personal identity behind the title; Rook has no political standing for the most part and their 'title' is personal.#They got the name either because they think in straight lines or because they cheat in games. Whichever one is canon.#That's a personality trait. Rook is defined through their origin & qualities that have nothing to do with political profess.#If I may— Rook's main canon trait goes directly against political qualities? They're exiled for that?#And like I know that most people headcanoned 90% of their Inquisitors because what else can you do but it's like. Not in the game.#So y e a h having a new protagonist that actually foils Solas as Solas was a good decision.#I get that some people are really attached to their Inquisitors and sure they could have polished that dialogue a little more.#Introducing Inquisitor as a protagonist past-Trespasser is deconstructing them as a character. Or just making Trespasser 2.0#Sorry for the rant every time I see a 'Inquisitor would be a better protagonist' comment I wonder if we played the same DAI.#'cause no they're a politician with frankly 0 standing in the North. No one past Free Marches CARES who the Inquisitor is.#Well Tevinter hates them.

it makes me want to tear my hair out when someone mentions that platonic relationships need to have sexual/romantic undertones to be interesting. friendships that blur the lines between romantic and platonic is great, friendships that have sexual relations are great, any kind of friendship is great. but these days im seeing this awful thought of "friendship needs to not be strictly platonic to be interesting and platonic" and people don't realise that this is just "friendships are less important than romantic/sexual relationship" in a different font. im very intense about my friends and each of my relationship with them is different than the other. one of my best friends is also almost like my partner. another one of my best friend is just my best friend. there is nothing romantic or sexual orientation whatever between us. i love both of them dearly and one relationship here is not more important than the other to me. i smile so wide my face hurts when i see her walking towards me. we used to live a few streets away and yet everytime i saw her i used to run to go embrace her. i have seen them in their lowest and they have seen me in mine. i do not want to kiss her on the lips or make her my girlfriend. the thought has never crossed my mind. but she has saved my life multiple times. she is a part of my soul. she is my friend. and if you say "yeah, that's what i mean, that emotion and its intensity is inherently romantic!" then that means you haven't experienced the height of love and care friendship can offer and im so sorry for your loss. also you are subscribing into the inherently harmful thought of "everything that is intense and meaningful is romantic". like my wonderful friend vik once said, "they're not my just anything. they're my friends."
#while we're all here i just wanted to say#both “applying a pre-conceived template over the top of every relationship without perceiving them as interesting dynamics that can be stra#and “saying every meaningful friendship needs to be more than just platonic is bad” can and should coexist#jolts upright. you see sometimes not everything has to be complicated. simple is good and beautiful too#you don't need to be 'weird' and 'strange' to be valid or interesting#a friendship does not contain multitudes because it is a mixture of platonic/romantic/sexual. it contains multitudes because of the people#who cares for each other so deeply with no other rhyme or reason than "i love you. under this endless sky in this stupid world i love you-#“and want to be stupid with you. let's go get burgers today. did you know that i would die for you?”#AND IT'S NOTHING MORE THAN PLATONIC! HOW CRAZY IS THAT#and if you think that's boring then. idk what to tell you man#maybe you just hate whimsy#what matters more in this world than your friends?#life may suck but at least there's this guy you befriended over books that would burn the world down for you#vi talks#friendship

It is so unbelievably frustrating how the algorithm timeline keeps defaulting in a place that has been free of algo bullshit for so long. I cannot tell if it’s a glitch or if they’re just pushing it intentionally. It’s at least easy to go back to the following feed, but with bluesky users more and more depending on the discover feed and tumblr defaulting to the algorithm timeline it just feels like ‘be twitter’ is the shitty destiny being pushed everywhere.
Important video anyone should give a watch:
youtube
#i hate algorithms as a creator and as a viewer#community and engagement always tank when algo shit gets pushed hard#trolls start showing up#reply guys flock#and thats usually just if you’re lucky and the algo likes you#if it doesn’t good luck existing#no truer way to scream into a void than an algorithm#also younknow the whole mess it has in the hand of radicalizing people#all it ever takes is liking one post you might agree with and its a steady stream of machine selected click content#a great post on bluesky recently was from an artist who said they realized they’d stopped ever even looking at art without realizing it#because surely enough the algorithms had slow boiled the lobster#until their twitter feed was nothing but a stream of rage bsit doom and anger#this video does a fantastic job of explaining why this shit is toxic for the soul and beyond#Youtube#also to clarify what i mean about radicalizing— i mean the brainwashing and astroturfing creating the mess we live in today#algorithms don’t just suck the soul out of communities like art and fandom#it’s legit a tool of harm

"Penelope should have chosen Debling!"
My sister in Christ. . .he literally dumped her???
Like just before Colin Bridgerton was on his knees after outrunning her carriage to profess how he can't stop thinking about her in his love me, choose me, I'm yours speech, Debling did the Regency equivalent of calling her a floozy who would undoubtedly cheat on him when he abandoned her for several years to chase his passions (because she would never be one of said passions since she asked outright if he could ever come to care for her and he went 'hmmmm seems unlikely! good thing you have solitary hobbies to occupy you instead!') when he has been given 0 evidence of such other than realizing she liked to look out the window because she had a crush on the boy across the street. I was ready to challenge that man to a duel for Pen's honor
His feelings for her were middling at best, I mean Christ on a Pogostick, after he asked her mum for permission to propose he isn't even happy when he opens the door and Pen is there? She's looking like a snack- nay, a whole ass MEAL, and he can't even smile? He just nods at her and dips the fuck out? You don't think it would kill Penelope to know that both her sisters have husbands who absolutely adore them and she's out here with an absent dude who likely won't even write to her?
Portia's 'Love is make believe!' speech is so transparently full of shit when you realize that we've got Dankworth who is so obsessed with Prudence that he makes heart eyes at her every waking moment and considers her his little bonbon and Albion who loves Phillipa so much that he was waiting for her to consent to sex (not realizing she didn't know what it was) for two entire years because he would never pressure her and so he was content with finishing in his pants when he kissed her to make sure she was comfortable. And you want Penelope to settle for a life of loneliness? When Colin is so besotted with her that he dreams of her and breaks every societal expectation in the book as a notorious People Pleaser to run after her and cannot even wait for the morning after being intimate with her to introduce her as his wife to his family in the middle of the night? You want her to turn down Mr "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible" Bridgerton? For LORD PENGUIN?
Be so serious right now
#polin#bridgerton#penelope featherington#colin bridgerton#lord debling#good old alfie d giving us absolutely NOTHING#'it would be so great to have a husband who is never there so I can live my life in peace!!!!' like. . .are you sure. . .you like men?#as a queer woman i get it: he'd be great for a wlw because like byeeeeee who needs love from a man when i can be left alone w/ my hot besti#but like. . .penelope wants love. . .and she DESERVES love and she wants her husband to love her!!!!#the featherington husbands are obsessed with their wives and you want pen to be out here alone in a big house? for why?????#tell me you hate penelope featherington without telling me you hate penelope featherington#she deserves her hot ass husband who finds her in every room and event they're in and hypes her up and eats the same food she does#so he can taste what she tastes#and kiss all over her and take her on his travels and show her the world and inform her that she's fantastic and kiss her all the time#and show her how much he wants her no matter where they are#LIKE BE FORREAL#you really want penelope out here with an absent husband so she can keep writing a gossip column that makes her cry all the time?#byeeeeeeee

It's surprising and, perhaps, a little depressing for a book so ostensibly beloved and held up as one of the finest in English literature, that Pride and Prejudice is so widely misquoted and misunderstood. It seems to be primarily viewed as a romance in the public's imagination, rather than the comedy of manners it truly is.
A large part of these misconceptions are admittedly, due to its various adaptations. I think a lot of people are surprised when they read the novel for the first time and discover that Mr Collins does not possess an affinity for boiled potatoes; that the proposal scene does not take place in the rain; that the second proposal is not made by Mr Darcy stumbling over his words at dawn and, ultimately, that he does not emerge from a lake in a wet white shirt. Nor is he really a brooding romantic hero.
The adaptations have had such a huge impact on the popular perception of Pride and Prejudice, that all of these products can be found on only the first two pages of an Etsy search of the title. All very nice products, I am sure. However, none of them contain quotes found in the original novel:

(quite why you'd want to be seen in a 'barely tolerable' hoodie I don't know but... each to their own... )
I question how widely-liked the actual novel is, if those who are keen to walk around in merch or decorate their homes inspired by Pride and Prejudice, are doing so with references that are nowhere to be found in the book's pages. Adaptations are part of many of our paths to falling in love with the novel; they were part of mine. But there are so many hilarious quotes contained within the first few chapters alone, you soon realise that nothing can live up to Austen's quick, witty dialogue or her observational comedy.
Yet, even when the novel is correctly quoted, it is not always done in an apt manner. Jane Austen was deemed important enough by the Bank of England to warrant her own banknote. Released in 2017, it looks like this:

I remember the controversy about the portrait, and how little it actually looks like the only (incomplete) drawing we have of Jane (which was said by those who knew her to not even resemble her all that well), but that's another matter. I'm most interested in the quote from Pride and Prejudice beneath it:

Let's put the quote in context. It is taken from chapter 11, and spoken by Caroline Bingley who is trying, unsuccessfully, to capture the attention of Mr Darcy.
Why did she pick up a book? Because Mr Darcy did:
'Darcy took up a book; Miss Bingley did the same'
How much enjoyment did she derive from the book? Not a great deal, apparently:
'Miss Bingley’s attention was quite as much engaged in watching Mr. Darcy’s progress through his book, as in reading her own; and she was perpetually either making some inquiry, or looking at his page. She could not win him, however, to any conversation; he merely answered her question, and read on.'
And now comes the actual passage from which the quote is taken, which tells us why Caroline chose that particular book:
'At length, quite exhausted by the attempt to be amused with her own book, which she had only chosen because it was the second volume of his, she gave a great yawn and said, “How pleasant it is to spend an evening in this way! I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."'
On the surface, such a quote—especially taken in isolation—would invariably lead you to believe that said character was an avid reader. However, the context demonstrates that Miss Bingley is far from a bookworm.
If you were left in any doubt, however, her next action surely confirms it:
'No one made any reply. She then yawned again, threw aside her book, and cast her eyes round the room in quest for some amusement'
As soon as Caroline realises that her quest to capture Mr Darcy's affection is futile, she throws her book away entirely; perhaps there are more enjoyable pursuits than reading, after all.
So, a quote deemed to have such importance as to be immortalised forever alongside Jane Austen on the currency of an entire nation (the design of which will likely be used for several decades) is so important in the context of the novel that it is... uh... *checks notes* ignored entirely. Right.
I mean, I don't necessarily understand why the quote had to be about reading but if it was, I could argue that a quote from Mr Darcy in chapter eight, about how extensive reading improves the mind could be far more sincere. Or why not one of the numerous lovely quotes from the novel? Obviously, an agenda was set and a quote needed to be found to match it.
Still, it is quite ironic indeed that reading actually opens your eyes to how ridiculous a choice of quote was made.
Anyway, what is my overarching point? Well, I think, largely due to its various adaptations, a majority of people believe they know the story of Pride and Prejudice. But shockingly few, despite it being consistently ranked as one of the most popular books, actually understand it on the level which it deserves to be.
This post was not intended to bash adaptations, it is absolutely fine to like them! But they are, by their very nature, going to differ from the book. That is inevitable. Yet, I think it's quite sad when people watch a film or series and believe they can possibly understand the story on the same level. Spoiler alert: you cannot. I know books are a luxury and reading is time-consuming, but Pride and Prejudice is out of copyright now. PDFs are abundant, as are audiobooks if you cannot sit and read!
Put some time and effort into understanding the novel. I promise not a single second of it will be wasted; you will gain a deeper admiration for Jane Austen's talent as an author, and you will fall in love anew with the many wonderful characters she so beautifully brought to life.
#jane austen#pride and prejudice#elizabeth bennet#mr darcy#caroline bingley#classic lit#classic literature#text#my analysis#i do also think that adaptations are not inherently 'good' or 'bad' in terms of helping you understand a novel#it is very much an individual skill issue and just bc you like a flawed adaptation DOES NOT mean you didn't understand the book#tastes differ and that's fine#we also have individual connections to things like 2005 will always mean a lot to me bc of who i first watched it with and when i did#but god nothing compares to the book NOTHING nothing i love it so much i want it tattooed all over me it is PERFECT#and i wish everyone could get that enjoyment sigh#and i also just wanted to rant about the banknote because i truly hate having one in my purse. like seeing a royal on one side is enough of#a jumpscare already thanks but then creepy yassified jane???? i'll just use contactless forever i guess#anyway i like making these longer form posts it scratches my brain in a nice way and i hope you enjoy them too <3

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?
tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.
#i really do have a love-hate relationship with this timeline#because it's FASCINATING lore. genuinely. and i think it carries over the themes of certain games REALLY well#but i also think it's indicative of a trend in loz's writing that has REALLY annoyed me for a long time#which is this intense need to cling to oot#and on a certain level i get it. that was your most successful game probably ever. and it was an AMAZING game.#and i think there's definitely some corporate profit maximization tied up in this too--oot was an insane commercial success therefore you'r#not allowed to make new games we need you to just remake oot forever and ever#and that really annoys me because it makes certain games feel disjointed at best and barely-coherent at worst.#i think the best zelda games on the market are the ones where the devs were allowed to really push what they were working with#oot. majora. botw. hell i'd even put minish cap in there#these are games that don't quite follow what was the standard zelda gameplay at their time of release. they were experimental in some way#whether that be with graphics or puzzle mechanics or open-world or the gameplay premise in its entirety. there's something NEW there#and because the devs of those games were given that level of freedom the gameplay really enforces the narrative. everything feels complete#and designed to work together. as opposed to gameplay that feels disjointed or fights against story beats. you know??#so I think that the willingness to allow botw and totk to exist independently from the timeline is good at the very least from a developmen#standpoint because it implies a willingness to. stop making shitty oot remakes and let developers do something interesting.#and yes i do very much fear that the next 20 years of zelda will be shitty BOTW remakes now#in which botw link appears and undergoes the most insane character assassination youve ever seen in your life#but im trying to be optimistic here. if botw/totk can exist outside the timeline then we may no longer be stuck in the remake death loop#and i'm taking eow as a good sign (so far) that we're out of the death loop!! because that game looks NOTHING like botw or oot.#fingers crossed!!#anyway sorry for the game dev rant but tldr timeline good except when it's bad#asks#zelda analysis

Pac: Yeah, Ramon knows about Create. You know Ramon, maybe one day you can start doing farms here? I would appreciate it! And I can pay you in chocolates and diamonds, you know?
[Fit and Bagi laugh]
Fit: That's a good reward, yeah!
Bagi: Chocolate and diamonds!
Pac: Yeah [Laughs]
Ramon: pay me by marrying my dad
Fit: No, hey– [Stammers] Ramon! Ramon!
Pac: "Pay me by marrying my dad"? Oh– [Stammers] Ramon! Ramon! Ramon!
Bagi: YES!!! Yes, Ramon, yes!
Fit: [Fit uses his chainsaw to break the sign and accidentally hits Ramon] Oh, sorry– I was trying to break the sign, I'm sorry, Ramon.
Pac: Ramon! [He does the "falls to pieces" emote]
Fit: Baby steps, Ramon! Baby steps!
Pac: Baby st– Ramon, remember–
Bagi: Yes, Ramon, yes!
Pac: [Laughs] Nooo, Ramon! You got me- you got me right on the spot!
Fit: [Laughs]
Pac: I'm gon– props- props on you, you know? It was a good– yeah. Dammit! Ok... I will consider! I will consider.
Ramon: [Nods repeatedly]
Fit: Yeah, you can't rush these things Ramon, you know? Like, it's- it's– You know? I mean– plus, you know, w– we got our own things we're working through!
Pac: [Leaning into the mic] You can't rush on love.
Fit: Yeah, exactly! Like– yeah. You know? We're working on ourselves. Yeah.
Pac: Yeah.
Fit: [Weakly] Yeah...
Ramon: [Spins in a circle wildly]
Pac: Baby steps!
Fit: Baby steps, baby steps.
Pac: One day– ok, let's make a deal: I will do that when you become a dragon.
Ramon: [Stares at the ground, resigned]
[Pac and Fit both laugh]
Fit: Oh yeah– Yeah, when you become a dragon, Ramon! That sounds good to me!
Ramon: [Tosses a potion of swiftness on them]
Pac: Woooo! Baby steps no more– I'm just kidding.
Fit: [Laughs]
#Pactw#FitMC#QSMP#Hideduo#FitPac#Ramon#I almost wrote FitTW and PacMc... Lord...#January 19 2024#Timestamp ~3h 5m on Fit's stream and ~2h 57m on Pac's stream#I love how they both tease Ramon going ''Yeah when you become a dragon!'' pfttt#Two grown ass men bullying a child... you hate to see it /j#Yet another reason why none are the Eggs are dead or locked away or whatever#Not even Cucurucho could stop the force of nature that is Ramon trying to get his father to marry Pac#I personally think it's sweeter if they don't get married because you don't NEED to get married for your relationship to ''count''#and it isn't any less valid#But I know that's a minority opinion in the fandom haha#I'm also against it because both Fit and Pac have separately said they don't ever see their characters getting married#But that's just my two cents! It's funny regardless#I also think Fit's comment of ''We're working on ourselves'' is really good too#Sometimes people do gotta work on themselves before they can be in committed relationships#Anyways I love how Fit stammered through an entire paragraph saying absolutely nothing and went ''You know?''

Still thinking about how Clover on the No Mercy Route likely would've given up their quest for vengeance and lived with Martlet had Axis not told them that he killed Integrity. The only real difference between Aborted No Mercy Run Clover and No Mercy Run Clover are a few more destroyed robots and the knowledge of what Axis did, which sent their LOVE skyrocketing to LV 19.
Look at them. They can't even look Ceroba in the eye after they inflict the final blow.
#undertale yellow#personally i see Clover's journey on the No Mercy Route as them feeling immense guilt and disgust with themself for killing monsters#but they HAVE to. it's self-defense. they're monsters. any one of them could have killed one of the other children. anything they can#tell themself to justify their own actions. but they can't lie to themself. not entirely. on some level they know what they're doing is#wrong and that's why they gradually lose their ability to recognize themself. and when they get to Axis that's when they're at their most#stressed. they just slaughtered dozens of monsters. they watched the monsters around them (like Angie and Gilbert and Dina) act like people#would under threat/treat them like they would a monster. they terrorized this robot throughout the Steamworks. maybe if they kill this one#they'll feel a sense of fulfillment/finality (they won't. deep inside they know they won't). and then Axis admits to having killed one of#the kids they're looking for and suddenly everything clicks into place. killing him feels like the easiest thing in the world. why were#they so caught up on remorse? just because they got distracted by a society more complex/civil than they thought it'd be? they're all#still kid-killers at the end of the day no matter how nice they all acted.#even then fighting against martlet they still have to deliberately dehumanize her by calling her ''the enemy'' in the first part and remind#themself of what they're fighting for/their freedom and home on the Surface in the second half. their SOUL blasts (which are a#manifestation of them/their will) barely do anything to her unlike Axis and Asgore who are brutally killed by one blast. i think Clover#genuinely liked her (a worthy opponent/they search her memories for a reason to hate her) and regretted killing her but they felt like they#had to. no loose ends.#take away the whole LOVE jump and finding out that Axis killed Integrity and what you have left is a kid who thought they knew what the#right thing to do was yet killed dozens for nothing. they're deeply remorseful and want a chance to better themself. one that Martlet would#offer bc she would see some good in them.#anyways. fat paragraphs in the tags once again#uty analysis#char: clover#yippee. you can see how badly i did in this fight with my remaining hp. jokes on you i beat her first try (this time around)

Chara: I'm wanting everything to end instantly
Asriel: And I'm wanting to go on unchanging forever
🔥🔥🔥THE BEEF WITH LINEAR TIME SIBLINGS🔥🔥🔥
#dreemurr siblings#undertale#Chara Dreemurr#Asriel Dreemurr#demon siblings#Chara wants oblivion and Asriel wants eternity#Chara needs a limit. They just want want to reach the ending (they are the narrator after all? isn't guiding the story to its end literally#their job?). That's why they're so impatient and care so much about efficiency#Asriel is associated with infinity the same way Chara is associated with 9999999. Even in-life the idea that there could be a limit scared#him to no end no matter how high it was he hates the idea that one day Chara won't be there anymore and he won't be able to make good#memories with them anymore. He resets over and over and over because he just can't let go. You do the same once thing once with Chara#hey look! I did a thing#and they instantly insult you over it. They are annoyed and baffled and bored out of their mind. You reached the ending did you not?#Why on earth did you erase it? And why in the angel's name are you here AGAIN?#what a strange child...#little prince#brotp: angels or demons?#Neither of them can truly get what they want. Can they? It's not how the world naturally works? Nothing lasts forever on an individual#level but at the same time... everything can't just end at once (not usually anyway...)#wanting to stay forever and wanting to escape immediately...of course it could never end well. Get me to the ending! And please don't let#this end. There's an AU somewhere in which they're almost deities and literally embody eternity and oblivion.#looks at Asriel: boy why you so Siffrin coded? ...Still can you blame him for the please don't leave me sthick Chara told him that they're#only here because they tried to erase themself from existence. It seems Chara mentions it again later.#Of course he's worried about them...''mysteriously disappearing'' or something similar. Not that I don't also understand#Chara wanting everything to end the world hadn't been kind to them so far. Plus they have a destiny don't they? They're the one from the#surface and the future of humans and monsters#They have a duty to free the monsters and complete the prophecy...one way or another

there should've been at least a full view of Fíli's body in the funeral scene
"Fíli you didn't deserve any of this" we all say in unison
#you already know how much i hate the way the hobbit movies are not canon-accurate at all#but what my boy Fili did to deserve such erasure... not even Mahal knows#not only he's the “least important Durin” in the movies somehow?? like he's literally the heir?? hello???#(Thorin's the king and we have that -ugh- Kíli subplot... nothing for Fíli)#we didn't even get a full body view like the rest of the departed. why.#but tbh I hate the funeral scene in general in the movies (the whole change w/ the Elvenking's character) so yeah#this is just the cherry on top#before anyone comes for my head for anything I've said: the movies are great movies BUT most definitely not good the hobbit adaptations#never in a million years will I ever say “if you don't feel like reading the book just watch the movie and I'll tell you the rest :)”#because literally no YOU'll be telling me the rest 😭#but also never in a million years will I ever say “please for the love of everything holy do NOT ever watch those terrible halfling films”#the hobbit#fili and kili#fili durin#kili durin#the hobbit thorin#thorin oakenshield#the hobbit movies

it really is like a desert here. being the fan of a character we aren't getting until the last damn nation is driving me up a wall but i will persevere bc if nothing else i support morally bankrupt women in media. we r in a severe drought over here but i do my best. unfortunately nothing i say is ever coherent so pull out your translation notes its abt 2 be messy
also this got out of hand but thats bc first meetings w the tsaritsa are tricky to write + a LOT of her characterization lies in deeper exploration then just surface level yknow...NOT A DIG AT YOU this is just my excuse for rambling. gently pats the tsaritsa she can hold so much complexity i do not have the word count to delve into it completely :]
gonna talk cult au for a bit here though because that's 99% of my content. and honestly? she thrives in sub au's of the cult au like villain au + imposter au. it's basically made for her. i mean, early days, the imposter au had been going around for a little while but one of the first few ideas was the Fatui taking reader in so like. it kinda technically actually was. pretty sure cult au Tsaritsa popped up because of the imposter au. a lot of it's writers kinda left though which. man am i getting old or.
anyway.
there isn't much of a chance her first impression is all that positive. at best it's usually neutral, imo, but rarely if ever positive. specifically because i view the Tsaritsa as someone who isn't as fanatical as most of the acolytes typically are towards the creator. she's not exactly going to worship the ground you walk on unlike a certain geo lizard. which is partially why i think she thrives in the sub au's i mentioned.
imposter au, for example. she meets you at your lowest. there's no gaudy extravagance or pampering from the acolytes waiting for you because your own acolytes have turned on you. for all intents and purposes you aren't a "god" at all. which is why i don't think she meshes well with normal cult au reader. the Fatui are made up of outcasts, basically, and imposter au slots right in just perfectly. you're weak, at your lowest, when you meet the Fatui in the imposter au. and the Fatui can help you, too.
a mutual exchange, really. the Tsaritsa sees a tool she can use to one up the rest of the nations and especially Archons, and she has no qualms about you using her and the Fatui in turn. you both want something out of it, after all. whether you just want to be safe from the rest of the acolytes, or you want revenge, or whatever else..she'll give you the power to fulfill it, and she gains the strongest piece on the chessboard when all is said and done.
the best way i can describe the first meeting is "practical", i suppose. she sees an opportunity in you. the ultimate gamble. because if she "saves" you, and you dont trust anyone else because they tried to kill you, well..she holds all the cards, doesn't she?
but the Tsaritsa, imo, is just as capable of being just as fanatical towards you as anyone else. she just won't worship you as the creator. but as yourself? clawing your way back to your divine power and taking back what belongs to you? the Tsaritsa is, to me, a character who's character flourishes in long-term fics more because she changes a LOT between "just met reader" and after having been with reader for some time. she's practically apathetic at the beginning but a lot of her character, in my characterization, shines through LONG after the first meeting.
#asks#Anonymous#sagau#tsaritsa#like. am i explaining this coherently?? first meetings r GOOD and i could go on a tangent of like. first meetings w zl and make it work#but first meetings w the tsaritsa is like. you just cooked a 5 course meal. took one bite. called it a day.#so much of my characterization lies in the “after” of the first meeting#because her first meetings are generally the same. she's apathetic at best!! she does not gaf abt the creator in the SLIGHTEST#but show that you are more then the creator? that you do not cling to the title like a shield? that you do not rely on it?#youve got the worst person youve ever known ready to kill a man for you.#tsaritsa is very like. EXTREMELY hard to earn the trust of but when you do she will kill someone for you no hesitation no question#which is why she works SO WELL in villain au and imposter au!!!!!!!!!#esp if theres a fake “creator” calling you the imposter. she hates their ass and was .5 seconds from dethroning them anyway#you just made it 10x easier#also cant do just first meetings bc i am incapable of not shoving themes of love into every fic w her SORRY#tsaritsa going on a full multiple month long mental breakdown bc she is not in love with you but she would destroy everything for u..#(shes in denial)#tsaritsa and complex themes of love and what it means for the god of love to be incapable of feeling it + what it means when reader shows u#LIKE UGHHHHHH okay. i guess ill write another tsaritsa fic and put it in my vault#aka my drafts#i hold so many fics hostage there its crazy#this answered like 0 of ur questions sorry i see tsaritsa and black out and this happens#i just think first meetings dont let her character really come thru but my response got out of hand so uhhhhh everyone look away. please#putting tape over my mouth now so i shut up before this gets worse#basically tsaritsa gravitates more towards outcast reader rather then one who has already become accustomed to the adoration of the acolyte#does that make sense........#i havent slept in forever and im running on nothing but spite and dreams atp dont expect coherency when it comes 2 the tsaritsa from me#head in hands someone please stop me i keep rambling abt the tsaritsa it makes me go NUTS#lays down. explodes

I’m gonna say it once real clear so I have a post to refer back to the moment it happens again (cause it will). I don’t give a fuck about any other reader on a personal level when I am reading a book. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, the people who claim you, the degrees you hold and in what subject. Not a damn. When I’m discussing the book, I am discussing the things the author wrote in the book. When I am discussing characters, your personal life experiences or cultural “expertise” factor 0% into my analyses except as an addendum to my thoughts if it matches what the novel or author has already said. That means that I will not automatically bow to a reader just because they claim to be Asian in general or Chinese specifically (cause I’ve had people try to flex with both, before). I am just as capable of reading and thinking on my own, and mxtx is just as capable of conveying what she wants us to understand from her story without the “cultural translators” acting as the unwanted, unasked for middleman. Especially when that middleman is directly arguing against what the book tells me. Heritage isn’t a “get out of jail free” card for intentionally shitty analysis and willful illiteracy.
So no, I’m not entertaining your argument that a child abusing character is just fine and dandy cause “I’m Chinese, my parents beat first and ask questions later and that’s called love 🤪” You’re Asian? You’re Chinese? So what? The author is also Chinese and disagrees with you. I also have Chinese friends who’d disagree with you. Are they less Asian than you? Do they not count because they don’t confirm your self-interested generalizations? Newsflash: Chinese people are not a monolith, and the continent of Asia definitely isn’t. Unlike in this cursed fandom, most people irl can think for themselves.
I can tell you one thing, though: mxtx damn sure didn’t write any of her novels so that a particular group of Asian diaspora readers can run to a majority-white fandom to play “cultural translator” about how “inherently abusive” Chinese culture is to a round of hehe hahas at their own expense. And for what? White validation? Western approval? Over a web novel??? Does that not sound demented to you? Is that not the definition of self-hate?
#the reason i don’t ever bring up my expertise as a flex#or bring up who i know and where they come from#is because i respect my own self and my analysis skills#and i also respect *my friends*#because i know good and damn well that if my white friends#trotted me out any time they wanted to defend a pos character who happened to be black#that my role in the fandom is to act as ‘cultural translator’ to a bunch of white people for the sake of confirming#the stereotypes they hold about *my* people and *my* culture?#we would be enemies#i wish some of y’all had that same self-respect#but when you look at the material i guess it makes sense#this may get me hate but i really need y’all to look at this and know it#y’all will NOT harass me over a fictional character because *you* 🫵 don’t respect the chinese creator#enough to accept that she is staunchly OVERTLY against child abuse#i have nothing to prove and if i was the only one left saying it guess I’ll be one against the mob
