They are calling for a bad winter, almost if not just as bad as what happened to Texas a few years ago.

So start stocking up. I recommend starting with these:

Toilet paper (not all at once! Maybe just an additional small pack every time you get more. Flushable wipes are also good)

Period products

Canned goods

Gallons of water (Aldis has some for about $0.85

A small tent (if you can. Check Walmart.) If the power goes out, popping a small tent inside can help keep you a little warmer. If I remember correctly, inside the tent can be about 10° warmer.

A cold weather sleeping bag. (I got one for 30° weather from Walmart for under $25) if it's too big, stuff blankets at the bottom

Socks, socks, socks

At least 3 sources of fire (matches, lighters, etc)

Solar powered charging blocks

Batteries

Candles

Possibly a small camping stove (if you use this inside be careful.

If you have a fire place, make sure that shit is cleaned now. (I also encourage you to start collecting lint from the dryer as a fire starter

Tape cellophane over the windows to help with drafts.

Try to get boots or water proof your boots

Salt for the ground

Jarred goods

Find your local food pantries if you are worried about running out of food.

When it gets to freezing Temps, let your taps run a bit at night so they down explode. This can happen even while the power is on, I believe.

And if you can, donate to your local food pantry. Especially diapers. Donate coats. Don't forget the homeless and low income who are going to be in extreme danger.

Since I still see people at my own age who don't know some/all of this, here are some BASIC TIPS FOR WASHING YOUR LAUNDRY IN MACHINES

ALWAYS CHECK THE LINT TRAP before you run the dryer and make sure it's as empty as possible.

UNBUTTON BUTTONS. Otherwise they tend to tug on and stretch the button holes.

ZIP UP ZIPPERS. The teeth can catch on delicate clothing.

TIE THE ENDS OF DRAWSTRINGS TOGETHER if they're not already looped. It'll keep them in place.

UNROLL SOCKS and other clothes. If your socks are balled up they won't wash or dry well.

When in doubt, use LESS SOAP. Trust me, slightly underwashed clothes are better than irritating soap reside, and easier to re-wash.

AVOID OVERSTUFFING washers and dryers. Clothes need room to move to get clean and dry.

ADVANCED TIPS

Big items like blankets are best washed separately even if they don't take up the whole machine.

Water resistant items should ALWAYS be washed separately and may need custom cycles.

T-shirt designs will last longer if you turn your t-shirts inside out before you wash them.

You don't need fabric softener. You also don't need dryer sheets but if you skip them use something to prevent static, it'll save you so much hassle.

“You know, you’re still technically not allowed to do that, I’m still a superior officer.”

“Yeah but—”

“Don’t even say it, Mitchell,” he cuts him off. “It’ll be cheesy and bad, and I’ll be looking to trade you in for the newer model by the end of the year if you do.”

“Trade me in?” Maverick asks incredulously. “After I finally got you house trained?”

“Got me house trained?”

“Breakfast for dinner is nice, dear, but it’s the only thing you can be relied upon to not burn when I ask you to cook,” Maverick replies.

“You’re just mad because the laundry always smells nicer when I do it no matter what you try.”

“And who was the one who had to stick his arm up the backside of the dryer because someone nearly set a lint fire?”

“There wouldn’t have been a fire, if you’d cleaned it out the first time like I asked—”

“You know you can go more than a week without washing your bedsheets, it’s not the end of the world—”

“—put a sticky note on the fridge and everything, reminded you before I left for D.C.—”

“—and if we’d switched to the other towels that don’t give off all that fluff, the lint wouldn’t have built up nearly as bad anyway—”

“—I told you, it was one list of things to do, a very simple list of three chores around the house, and you didn’t listen the first time or the second time, so third time’s the charm, right—”

“—and then you kept insisting we use dryer sheets when wool balls work just as well, better even—”

They cut themselves off and smile. Ice sticks out his hand, wiggling his fingers until Maverick takes it.

“So. It’s been a while since I last saw you.”

Maverick laces their fingers together. “Yup.”

“Seven months.”

“Seven months, two weeks, and three days. But who’s counting?”

“Did you see the news?”

“I’ve heard a thing or two.”

Ice squeezes Maverick’s hand. It’s scarred and calloused from all the maintenance he does around the house, on his bikes, and on the Mustang they still haven’t made airworthy again. There’s a bump right where the stick sits between his thumb and his forefinger after hours sitting in the box, first in a Tomcat and then in a Hornet, and soon, maybe, in one of those fifth-gen stealth planes that go five times faster than Ice ever did.

His own scars from his days in the sky have long since been traded in for hardened ridges where his pen rests, reams of forms to fill out and files to read. There’s no flying for admirals, Viper had once warned him. Flying’s like riding a bike, but the memory of it starts to fade from your body faster than it does your mind.

Between the two of them, Maverick is much more the image of a pilot than Ice is, in his tailored suits and stars.

He runs his fingers over the back of Mav’s hand and presses their palms together.

“What do you think?” he asks.

“Of what?”

“Now you’re just playing coy.”

“Well, Admiral Kazansky, if you’re asking little old me,” Maverick starts, “I think it’s about damn time.”

Ice grins. “See, I’d thought something of the same myself.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out two wedding bands, made of newly minted gold.

“So, what do you think, Mitchell? Wanna get hitched?”

Maverick holds onto Ice’s hand tighter and drags him back towards the front door.

“Where are we going?”

“Where else do you think? We gotta go catch Slider before he gets too far from base and tell him to call up the boys, we’re getting married this weekend!”

You’re tired--you feel like you’re always tired when you’re at work, especially when it gets so dead in here. You’ve already swept the nasty floors and wiped the sticky counters and counted the register and made things stupidly easy for your coworker who comes into work reeking of sweat and weed. 

Now you’re just buying time until Jake picks you up, tapping your fingers against the counter and seeing how long you can hold your breath. You haven’t gotten past thirty-four seconds. 

This is literally the kind of boredom that kills people. 

It’s been empty in here for a couple hours now--this sad little ice cream shop on Clearview Street, nestled between a shoe cobbler and a dog groomer’s. It’s barely even three in the afternoon--of course no one wants ice cream right now. Even when it’s this achingly hot outside, there’s always a lull in business around this time. 

But that at least means you can turn the radio up. Right now, Plastic Jesus by Tia Blake is playing. It’s the only other sound in the shop besides your chipped nails tapping against the fridge in the back. 

You’re taking your stained apron off when the bells above the door chime. 

Sighing, you slip your apron back on and turn so you’re lingering near the cash registers and glass-lidded freezer. But you’re instantaneously relieved when you find that it’s not another ratty-haired brat waiting for another free sample before you--it’s Jake. He’s leaning over the counter, grinning at you, his eyes heavy but shining in the harsh fluorescents. 

“Well, howdy,” you greet with a huff, mirroring his position so your elbows are pressed together. “Thought you were gonna be another rugrat.” 

He chuckles softly, shaking his head. 

“Disappointed?” He asks. 

He’s trying to take you in without you growing uncomfortable--not that his gaze has ever made you uncomfortable. You’re wearing the ugliest hot-pink collared shirt with the Dairy ‘N’ Berries logo on the breast, a faded pair of blue jeans, and clunky tennis shoes that he thinks used to be white. Your hair is pulled back--as much as you can pull your hair back--and your face is free of any makeup. You look tired like you always do during a morning shift--which is stupid because who the fuck gets ice cream at eight in the morning?--but you look happy to see him. 

“Entirely,” you tease right back. You glance at the clock. Only a few more minutes until your coworker is to come in and relieve you. You have time. “Pick your poison. Quick!” 

Jake glances down at the buckets of ice cream, all six of them, and ignores the fat black fly buzzing around in the glass. Beggars can’t be choosers. He points to the strawberry and you nod at once, grabbing one of the shitty paper cups from beside the register and scooping the ice cream hastily. 

“How was work, honey?” Jake asks, taking the cup from you and leaning against the counter. You don’t hand him a spoon so he simply digs his two fingers in the cup and sucks the ice cream off them. “Make enough money to get us the Hell outta dodge?” 

You shake your head, frowning. You untie your apron again and hang it up on a crooked hook. 

“Someone tipped me in fuckin’ dryer lint today,” you say, pointing to the measly tip jar. “Honestly, maybe they thought that was our trash can. Can’t blame ‘em, I guess.” 

Jake is making a proper mess--like he always does. He’s scooping the pink ice cream out and sucking his fingers clean devilishly, making lewd noises when his tongue twirls around his fingernails. He has cream all around his mouth now, doing his damndest to finish the secret cup of ice cream before your coworker relieves you. 

“You poor thing,” Jake tuts, sticking out his lower lip. 

You nod, throwing your hands up. 

“I know. People should just throw their money at me,” you say. “Like a stripper.” 

“Would if I could,” Jake sighs, eyebrows raised. 

That makes you laugh. 

“What’re you implyin’? Think I’m stripper material?” 

Jake snorts, his eyes falling to his fingers dipped in the quickly-melting ice cream. His cheeks are dusted pink, which is strange because you hardly ever see his cheeks get pink. Not unless he’s pissed off or very drunk. But this is a new blush, surely--one that has something to do with the thought of you taking all your clothes off and performing for Jake. 

This is your usual banter, something you’ve probably joked about before. But now there’s something sitting between you two, something that makes your thighs feel weak and your tongue dry. The two of you still haven’t spoken about the night of graduation, even if it’s been consuming both of your thoughts. Even though both of you are tossing and turning at night, replaying every moment from the encounter, neither of you have been brave enough to say something about it.  

So now you’re stuck thinking about it--about you being a stripper. About your naked body in front of his naked eyes. You’re thinking about what lace would feel like covering the meat of your ass, thinking about what it would feel like if Jake touched you through the lace. And Jake is just thinking about you, the heat between your legs, the way you clamped down over him. He’s thinking about the phone call his mama’s gonna get later from Mrs. Odette, too, but he’s trying not to.

“I think you can do anythin’ you set your mind to,” Jake decides on. 

The two of you look at each other for a long moment, watching each other’s mouths. 

“Slap that on a poster,” you whisper finally, biting your lip. 

Jake looks at your face--how earnest and lovely it is, even in this dingy ice cream shop with the awful overhead lighting--and decides that he should say it now. He should say it here and if things don’t go well or they get awkward, there will only be a few minutes until you’re off shift anyway.

“Emma--you remember her?” Jake says, grinning when you pretend to think. He’s glad that landed--glad you’re not running for the hills at the first mention of Emmaline Odette.

“Rings a bell,” you shrug. 

You know where this is going. 

Your heart is racing. This conversation, for all its non-causality, feels like it’s about to get even more serious. You know that Jake sometimes likes to tease and crack pathetic little jokes when he doesn’t want to say something. You’d be willing to be he said something stupid to Emmaline when breaking up with her--and you know, know with your entire aching chest, that is what he is about to tell you. 

And Jake is watching you carefully, noting how slacked your face is and how quickly your chest is moving even though you’re trying to hide it with your hair. He wants to take your hand, but he knows you’d just feel like he’s drawing more attention to it--which is probably precisely what you don’t want. So he just keeps eating his ice cream, letting his eyes fall down to where your hand is gripping the counter. 

“Yeah, well…” Jake says with a shrug, “she’s history. Well--we’re history.”

Biting a small smile, you nod. 

“As of?”

Jake glances at the clock. 

“Fifteen minutes ago,” he answers. 

“Oh,” you say, blinking at him. 

He’s not looking at you as he eats his ice cream. And because you know Jake better than you know anyone else in the world, it suddenly registers on his face that things didn’t end nicely. He’s got that little crease between his brows, the one that is practically the word anguish written across his forehead. And his lips are bitten, his cheeks still a bit pink. 

“How’d it go?” You press very softly. 

Your heart is still racing. You’re worried that maybe he’s realized that this is a mistake--that there really wasn’t a reason for him to break things off with Emma. 

“Bad,” he answers with a small smile. “Told her why people call her butter.” 

Your face scrunches in displeasure. You don’t like Emmaline Odette--you would probably delight in never seeing her again if you had it your way--but you know that butter is a particularly cruel nickname. 

“Wicked,” you say, sighing. “Maybe she needed to know, I guess.” 

“Here,” Jake grins, scooping some more on his fingers and nodding for you to come closer to him. “Ice cream makes everythin’ better.” 

You’ve done this before--of course you have. You’ve ate out of his hands more times than you can count between spilled pudding cups and melting popsicles. But when you open your mouth and he rests his fingers heavy against your tongue, when you sloppily suck that sweet cream off his fingers while blinking softly up at him--it washes over you again. Those fingers were in your cunt a few nights ago. And the two of you still have not talked about it--not fully, not the way you want to talk about it.

Some more life advice from your Auncle Lamp. Let’s go.

-Dressing the part will actually get you more into the mood to do something, even if that thing is just going to the grocery store. 

There’s nothing wrong with dressing comfortably, but there is a certain point where wearing sweatpants all the time will start messing with you emotionally.

You don’t have to go all out, but switch up your look, heck, you may even feel like getting more things done simply because you’re already dressed for it.

-Clean your sneakers.

They don’t have to be pristine, but if you take the time to clean them now and then, they’ll last longer.

Speaking as someone who had one pair of shoes to wear through all kinds of weather growing up (you never forget your converse freezing to the ground, you just don’t), you need to take care of them.

-That said, shoes do eventually wear out, and, trust me, I’ve been the person with the shoes that are peeling or cracking... do yourself a favor and get new ones.

It can be expensive, but if you get better quality shoes and take care of them, they will last longer and you won’t constantly have to worry about getting new ones.

Also, if your shoelaces are falling apart, you can oftentimes buy new ones at grocery stores, at least that’s the case in the US, they can be found near the sewing supplies in the home goods section, usually around the same area as the laundry supplies.

-Your dryer has a lint trap and you DO have to empty it after every use, because otherwise it will build up and not filter it properly, which is a fire hazard. 

Semi-related note, but also remember to empty the crumb tray on your toaster.

-Clean under/behind your fridge. Same goes for the stove.

-If you can manage it, presort your laundry as you take it out of the dryer if you’re the type who puts it in drawers/the closet later.

It saves you a whole load of grief trying to find that missing sock, and everything is ready to go where it needs to go.

And lastly;

-Oftentimes, the way to get that frustrating and annoying thing done and over with is just to do it.

It’s hard, and I know the need to complain is there, but if you tell yourself, “Fuck this, I’m getting this done.”

Suddenly it isn’t as big of a problem as it was before, because now you’re in control of it.

You are in control of the work that needs to get done, the work is not in control of you.

Same goes for making phone calls. 

Even by making a list of your questions or talking points has given you 10x more control and power in that situation, and it can help ease your anxiety over it.

Clarifying questions or notes are allowed.

You are allowed to do that in real life.

Hakuji likes to be busy and stay busy. He just cannot relax to save his life so he's always doing something. Fixing up his car or bike or my car. Doing something for the house like cleaning gutters or power washing the siding. Repainting cabinets and door frames so they still look fresh and new and even doing things I'd never think to do like cleaning the dishwasher and washer filters and even trying to get all of the lint out of the dryer and dryer vents, even vacuuming the dust from the coils on the back of the fridge, so our stuff stays clean and functional for as long as it can!

So on Sundays, after we do our grocery shopping or grocery pick up, I lure him onto the couch. Urging him that I'm uncomfortable and that his lap would be better so I can trap him into watching a movie or binging a show. Sometimes we smooch and it leads to other things 👀 but somehow after a while I've gotten him relaxed enough he'll take a little nap and I will too. Before gyutaro and his pretty fox wife call us mid to late afternoon, telling us what dinner is, insisting we bring nothing but I always bring a side or sweet before he takes the long way to their house so I can enjoy the ride 🥰

The Lemon Legacy: Generation 1, Chapter 44 - Soarin', Flyin', Roastin'

The first thing Ophelia does the next morning is set her ass on fire because she forgot to clean the lint tray of her dryer. I didn't get many screenshots because I was too busy screaming and crying and throwing up but I think this one speaks for itself.

Xander has to leave to help his parents around the house, but he has time to clean up the aftermath of the fire while Ophelia cleans the soot off of herself. He finds that he doesn't mind helping out with chores. He rather likes it, actually!

Ophelia's stressed, as one would be after setting themselves on fire, and does some yoga to calm down. It doesn't entirely make the stressed moodlet go away.

So I live in an apartment and we have a shared laundry facility. I had to buy a little trashcan because people kept dropping their lint and dryer sheets all over the floor.

But people can't be bothered to empty out the trash can either. Once it's full they just keep dropping the dryer sheets and the lint all over the floor still!!!! And the worst thing is, there is a dumpster RIGHT OUTSIDE the laundry room. It's not that hard TT-TT

I don't do my laundry down there every week because it's downstairs and I'm too disabled to walk down and up and down and up every week when I already do that to walk my dog and go to work. We bought a mini washer so we can do small load up here so thank goodness I don't have to deal with it often. But I'm literally the only one who cleans up down there and it's infuriating.

This isn't even that bad because I cleaned up down here like, what 2 weeks ago? A month ago? I'm not good with time but it was so much worse than this. At least one person tried to help by buying another trash can but they bought the one with the lid and the lever or whatever that you step on to lift the lid and that's broken so no one is using it even though it's pretty easy for me to lift the lid with my foot and toss the lint in.

And when I cleaned it last time I also cleaned out a lot of dirt that comes in through the metal screen door of the laundry room that the landscapers blow in with the leaf blowers and clothes that had been left behind. I really wish the landscapers would stick to the front. The back is just parking, there is no greenery at all. All the green is in the front. And why are people leaving clothes??? Why don't you pick up after yourself the next time you go in and see your missing sock or scarf or whatever??? And I'm definitely the only person who cleans down there.
