Hello, Internet! I think it’s about time I made an introduction post. I am, as you can see from my username, CroissantLover24 (“croissant” or “pastry” for short). Tumblr was made to be a social app, for people to interact with each other and reblog posts in order to do so. That’s why there’s so many options to add responses to posts, to add tags and even send asks.

I have an ao3 and anyone is more than welcome to read my fics over there without leaving a comment, kudos or bookmark— like the huge majority do.

But on here it makes me uncomfortable to have so many blank/empty/plain blogs following me with absolutely no fandom content reblogged whatsoever or only generic posts/responses. Especially since two of the times I’ve been plagiarised it was by either a blank blog following me on here, it a k-pop blog who didn’t reblog anime content stealing my shit. So I’m sorry I don’t want them following me.

And the post you’re talking about in question, I was nice because I know that a lot of people still don’t understand the importance of reblogging your faves. Even though artists and writers go on and on and on about it, what’s the point of being mean? I only posted that response AFTER she replied to me saying that she didn’t understand the point of reblogging fanart or fanfic… even though she reblogs literal nonsense posts. That’s the part that really got me.

If you don’t like how I run my blog, or what I block people for why are you here? There’s literally thousands of people on tumblr you could follow, or like you said use ao3?

It’s the fact that I know you have never left an artist or a writer a comment this long on any of their content before, but you chose to be brave and click that anon button to send me a long essay about me being a horrible person.

The response is always “you’re so weird” and never, “let me go and tell my favourite author thank you for making my day better”.

I’m sorry that I blocked you for not supporting artists/writers, but I don’t regret it. It’s a pretty pathetic mindset to have that an artists work isn’t worth a free reblog that could actually make their day.

Jade put her hand on the knob of her new office. She had never believed that she would rise through the ranks in S.H.I.E.L.D., but most of all, she liked the fact that some of her colleagues had been angry when they announced that she would be promoted.

The only thing she didn't like was that she had to work with the STRIKE team. She had heard a lot about them, especially from the new Commander and Sub-Commander, but that didn't matter. No one was going to stop her.

Jade observed the roles of the new mission. It was not the type of mission that he was used to in his new position. That was up to other teams. Fortunately, there was no need to bring recruits, as this would be the first mission of these. However, in those last few days, there were too many missions and practically all the agents were busy; I would also leave work for recruits.

There was something he didn't like about the mission; he had to work with certain members of the STRIKE team. They usually work with the captain. In less than two hours, he would have to leave to meet with his teammates and start the mission. He had to hurry to finish reading the file.

She looked at her watch. They were five minutes late. She knew she hadn't left because she had all the equipment they were going to need. She didn't want to turn around. She knew that if she saw them, she would claim them, wait until they were in front of her, and of course, they would have an apology.

However, she was surprised that as soon as a man arrived, she was sure that he was not Rumlow, but there was something that caught her attention, although she could not tell at the time what it was.

"You must be Blake," Jack said, standing in front of Jade with an unfriendly gesture.

Jade Blake, Commander of the Recruit Team, "corrected him," squinting. She couldn't believe he was so rude. She was starting to draw a lot of conclusions in her head.

"Jack Rollins," he said, not taking his gaze away from her.

"And Commander Rumlow?"

"He had to go on a last-minute mission with Rogers, but I'll handle this," Jack said.

Jade saw it from head to toe. She was not entirely convinced. However, she would have to adapt to make the mission work. What she least wanted was to have problems or to believe that she was not suitable for the position.

The mission was successful, although Jack didn't seem to be someone who talked much, or maybe he was angry. Jade had already grown tired of Jack's attitude, even though they were a good team.

"It bothers you that a woman is in charge," Jade said.

"No, it doesn’t."

"You lie," Jade snapped, "she had lost patience. She had never worked with anyone like him.

I don't usually trust anyone, but I think you do it very well. "But I don't understand why you were sent on this mission if you are the commander of the recruits," Jack said without flinching.

"Because you have to recruit someone else," Jade joked, or maybe she had been startled for no reason. Jack looked at her incredulously. No, we don't have to recruit anyone, but it seems like all the agents were busy.

A few hours later, they decided to stop at a fast-food restaurant. Jade saw that things were changing and Jack's behavior was beginning to change, even seeming friendlier.

"I've heard a lot about you and Rumlow," Jade commented, then ate the bite.

"No one really knows us. Everything you've heard is probably a lie.

As the weeks went by, Jack and Jade spent more time together. Whenever they could, they went out several times, especially to the cafeteria near the Triskelion.

"So, who is Jack Rollins?" Jade asked before taking a sip of her milkshake.

"I am," Jack replied, with a nod of obviousness.

"No, I mean, what's behind that bad boy face? Why did you join SHIELD? "

"My sister."

"Your sister also works for the organization," Jade said as if it were confirmation.

For "No, she doesn't... it doesn't matter," Jack wasn't sure if he should tell her the real reasons. Few people knew about Leah.

"Jack, you're hiding something, even if it doesn't seem like it. You're very easy to read.

"Did you know that SH.I.E.L.D. has great health insurance?"

"I assumed, given the kind of work we do, there could be any kind of injury. This is a very risky job, I think you know that," Jade replied.

"It also works for relatives."

"I don't understand."

"I'm in SHIELD because of my sister." "She needs a lot of care," Jack finally said. Jade looked at him and then understood what was happening.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked, I'm just making you uncomfortable. "

"Only two people had discovered it. You are the third. "

"I hope one day I'll be able to meet her."

"I think he's going to like you."

After dinner, Jack accompanied her home. Jade got off the bike, took off her helmet and smiled at her. They walked together to the door of Jade's apartment.

I had a great time; I don't know if you want to pass or you have to leave... "

Jack kissed her, closing the apartment door behind him, fiercely taking off her clothes as they walked into the room. For several hours of the night, the bodies danced in ecstasy.

Jade opened her eyes and smiled as she noticed that she was lying on Jack's chest. She had never felt anything like it before.

"Hello."

"Last night was..."

"Fantastic."

I was going to say phenomenal, but I like fantastic. "We have to go to work, so I'll go for a bath, in case you want to join me," Jade said as she winked.

Jade bit the top of the feather slightly. She had never felt anything like it, but now she needed to know that it was exactly her and Jack. She was startled to hear someone knocking on her door. She frowned when she saw that it was one of the recruits. Then she saw the watch. She was late for the tests that were going to be administered to the recruits that day. In fact, she had completely forgotten. After that, she would talk to Jack.

You draw good art. Someone in a comment section said some of my comments on your post s are weird or something, but I don't mean to be rude or a problem. Just like looking at and commenting on a lot of stuff. I'm a fan of a lot of different things, and that can sometimes come off as a bit obsessive for non fans or casual audiences.

I don’t think you’re trying to be weird, but I have a feeling that the amount of replies and simply using emojis can come off as something that looks like spam.

However, as I don’t want to leave it there, I have a suggestion that might help. I don’t know if you already know this, so sorry if I come off as condescending if you do.

If you see something of mine you really like, you can reblog it with just tags (if you have that reblog option on your stuff, of course). That way, you don’t have to send multiple replies if you have more to add. Emojis even work on tags, so go wild with them! :D Don’t worry, I can see reblogs as it’s set up for me to see them.

Extra tip: You can even come back later and edit your posts with more thoughts and tags. Just look for.. Well, for me it’s a pencil icon. Not sure if it depends on the device you use.

I really do hope that helps things going forward. I hate to block someone who enjoys my stuff and is trying to show that.

Edit: Oh, and uh.. You might want to not reblog multiple times if you have a post limit. Just rely on good ol’ Edit Post and you’ll be set.

With all of the posts for new tumblr users explaining how the site works and all the unspoken “cultural” rules I’ve been thinking about relics of tumblr’s past like queue tags that are puns and such, and you know what's something that's a habit from the old days of tumblr that it only recently occurred to me must seem odd to anyone who joined after they changed how replies work? Making a new post/screencapping a reply and tacking it on in a reblog along with your response.

Like I just do that without thinking about it because I remember back when the main way to reply to replies was to make a whole new post. And not in like people did that just for shits and giggles, that was legit what tumblr did when you clicked to reply to someone, it made it a new post. It would have a link back to the original post and usually the repliers blog but it would be a whole new post like "[user] replied and said [response]" and then you could add a comment under it and that was just how replies worked!

But now I’m like, is there an assumption that replies should stay in there unless they’re especially noteworthy or you’re going to make a super-long specific response? Because ngl I hardly ever reply in the replies, to me it actually feels rude? Like I’m kinda ignoring someone, or deeming their reply unimportant(or worse like I don’t want to publicly associate with them or something)?? That it’s more respectful to treat it as I would a reblogged comment?? Because it’s like...part of the post or something?? But the more I think about that the more that seems weird??

And then I wonder, do new people think it’s rude when I do that for every response? Because like, if they wanted their comment added to the main body of the post surely they would just add it on as a reblog. If they leave it in the replies are they saying they DON’T want it added on? And if I add it on myself am I then being rude?? Or is it more like how people will screencap tags and add them on if they are funny enough, and thus the person replying is like “you can add this on if you want, but I’m leaving the choice up to you”??

Idk it’s interesting to think about how the culture of tumblr has changed in the last ten years, especially things that I considered normal/polite/expected that might now seem strange or rude. (And if y’all see me screencapping your replies and adding them on to my post in a reblog to reply please don’t think I’m trying to be rude, I’m apparently just a tumblr boomer too set in her old ways to change.)

Hello my dear! Its a tough one isn't it. I totally understand that not everyone feels comfortable leaving words, but let's be honest you don't actually need to add words.

A bookmark, an emoji, an empty reblog don't take much effort or putting your head above the parapit as a reader if you've asked to be tagged imo to let the writer know you've read something 😊

I'm of the opinion that people have busy lives and I don't expect anyone to read something I post straight away.

However if there is someone who is not engaging at all consistently over a sustained period of time then I stop tagging them under the assumption they are not fussed, which is fine.

Tagging fics is a total pain in the bum and takes ages to get right and even then doesn't work sometimes as you probably know ❤️

TLDR: Basically if someone is a chronic ghost tag I stop doing it for both our sakes🥰 obviously if they've taken a T break/ ask to be re-added i will but I just feel like it's rude. Like I'm imposing myself on them. Lol.

I see posts like this go around once in a while, and there’s good stuff here. But as someone who has been on tumblr 12ish years… a lot of this is personal opinion. So I thought I’d weight in, too.

Rule #1 (in my opinion): You should enjoy your tumblr experience. Your way of enjoying it may be different than others’, and that’s totally okay!

- If you Like something but don’t feel strongly enough about it to reblog it? Don’t. If you want to treat your tumblr as your livejournal and just post personal posts? Do that! It is YOUR DASHBOARD! Put what you want to see on there! Literally the only reason to be concerned about what other people think of your content is if you want more followers; reblogging a variety (or a specific aesthetic) is a great way to attract followers. But it’s still your dashboard and should contain things you want to either shsre with other people or save for yourself.

- You are allowed to be a lurker. The site works best if the majority reblog stuff. But shy or quiet or just dashboard-surfer people are welcome, too. If you want to make sure people don’t think you’re a bot, choose a fun usericon and fun name and maybe write a little line in your profile bio along the lines of, “Hi, I’m not a bot!” But honestly, I dont think any of us has the right to say you’re doing tumblr wrong if you aren’t reblogging. If you dont enjoy reblogging but feel guilted into it, you’re not enjoying your tumblr experience, and that defeats the purpose a bit.

- I have NEVER EVER thought someone was rude for just liking stuff! I dislike the rhetoric that Likes don’t have value. They show both the original poster and the person who reblogged it that you, well, LIKE what they made! That’s positive affirmation! It’s good!

- The idea that you should only ever add text to a reblog if it “has value” is completely a personal preference (and really very arbitrary - who gets to decide what “has value”?) Whether you put your response to personality-type questions in the text or the tags is also personal preference. A great thing about tumblr is that if someone decides yoor personal preference doesn’t match theirs, they can click to a reblog further up the chain most times and reblog that instead. (I run a PG blog and frequently have to do this when I want to reblog a post but need to pick a version from before one that someone added a swear word to.)

- And finally, just a quick clarification: When you Reply, both the original poster AND whoever’s reblog you Replied on will be notified. I enjoy seeing the Reply comments people leave on posts I’ve reblogged, personally. :) But if you ONLY want the OP to see your Reply/Comment, you can click their name where it appears on the post and that will take you to the original post, where commenting will only send a notification to the OP.

so i have a mildly popular “reblog and put in in the tags” post going around and its. very clear how many people don’t know how to interact with a tumblr post

so, first of all, tumblr’s culture has changed a lot in the past couple years. there’s a genuine community effort to not start any drama, and ironically a lot of the current hostility is an effort to keep things calm. there’s also a change in how people interact with posts, so if you haven’t been here in a while please skip down to the tags/replies/reblog with text section.

for newcomers: you should be reblogging posts about as liberally as you would like something on twitter. if you only like stuff, people will think you are rude/a bot. you’ve probably heard people talk about “cultivating your dash,” and thats because this platform is 100% centered around your dashboard. trending matters less, unfollowing and blocking in order to shape your dash into it’s best form is widely accepted, the majority of the content you’ll find and interact with will be because of your dash, and the only way to put things on your dash is to reblog them. tumblr users are deeply distrustful of algorithms and have largely turned off the “see posts your friends have liked” function (i recommend you also turn of the various algorithms in settings → general settings → dashboard preferences).

so, once you’ve reblogged a post, there’s three ways to add content to it. the tags, replies, and reblogging with text. all of them have different connotations

the tags: an inside voice. originally they were meant for organizing your blog (and they’re still used for this), but they’ve also morphed into a way to share thoughts that aren’t funny/insightful enough for non-followers to be interested in. when in doubt, put your comment in the tags

replies: basically talking to your friends in class. your followers have no way of finding your replies (they don’t pop up on the dash, nobody gets notified except for the original poster) so chances are, only the person who made the post is gonna see your comment. it’s for quick one-offs that you’re okay with other people overhearing, but really is only made for one person. they’re like a public dm

reblog with text: an outside voice. you’re getting up on a stage in town square and entertaining people. make sure it’s funny or insightful— bottom line, add something new to the conversation. you should use this the least

general rules of thumb: 

when in doubt, reblog. people will judge you if your blog is only personal posts and you only interact with other content by liking it.  

the only things people will judge you for reblogging are personal vent posts. leave a like to give a little virtual hug

if a post is asking about your personality/opinions (i.e: tell me what’s the last tv show you watched, that kind of thing) put it in the tags 

also if you see a nice edit, gifset, or art, reblog and say something nice in the tags! it’s that nice sweet spot of common enough that no one will notice but uncommon enough to make the artist’s day

how do you get so many notes? I don’t mean this in a rude way at all. lately every edit I post, flops really badly. Are there any tips/tricks when it comes posting/tagging?

hi! i talked a little bit about it here, but long story short—there's no one guaranteed way to get many notes on a post (maybe other that posting edits for a big fandom that just had a new season/movie/any kind of content released and there's a lot of hype surrounding it, but even then your edit might get lost among many others and flop).

having said that, there are a few things you can do to get your post better exposure. tagging appropriately is the most important part—make sure to always use the edit tag for a certain fandom (for example for merlin it's #merlinedit), cause that's the main tag people check when they're looking for content. you'll also want to add all the generic tags like the show/movie name, the actors' names, the characters' names, the ship name etc. (but only those that apply to a certain edit!). you can also tag users and source blogs (these days that's probably the best way to ensure your posts reaches the right audience). so if you know someone's in the fandom you're posting content for, you can tag them and they'll reblog your work! but first make sure you follow them, cause that's kinda the tumblr etiquette. if you’re not sure who to tag in a specific post, you can always look through the edit tag for that fandom and see what users other people are tagging, and take a cue from them.

also there's no use comparing yourself to others when it comes to the number of notes. for example i haven't posted an edit in awhile, so all of my gifsets are at least 2 months old. and in that time they managed to gain some notes—not all of them had them right away. sometimes it takes time for a set to spread as it gradually leaves people's queue's and reaches other people.

I wish I could disable likes. I really do. Likes do nothing. Disabling then would force people to reblog or get blocked. If that’s the only way to get a shred of kindness around here, it’s worth it!!!

How To Fandom

Okay I’ve been really really wanting to write a masterpost about how to stay sane on this website for a while now, and I think it’s time.

So You Joined The Dream SMP Fandom/Basically Any Fandom.  You Feel Like You Are In Hell.  How Do You Keep Sane?

The block button is your friend.  Unless the person who has been blocked tries messaging you or interacting with your posts, then they’ll never find out they’ve been blocked.  You can also do something called “softblocking,” which is blocking and then unblocking them to make them unfollow you.  Chances are they might not even notice you’re no longer on their feed.  Block people who annoy you.  Block people who give you bad vibes.  Block everyone and anyone who makes you uncomfy.  It’s worth it.

Tag filter tag filter tag filter.  Tumblr has its own tag filtering option.  If you block the word “gore” it won’t block “gore tw” but it’s good to use because it will synch all your filtered tags between mobile and desktop.

If you use Chrome, you should install the New Xkit extension.  It has lots of different filtering options, like the option to block individual posts and all variations of them, blacklist words, hide advertisements, and more.  There’s also additional accessibility options.  Seriously I cannot reccomend being able to block posts enough, it’s extremely helpful for clearing your feed of the same annoying rants that keep popping up over and over again.

Turn off anon unless you’re comfortable with having it on.  Anon is a nice way for friendly shy people to message you, yes, but it’s not worth it if there’s people flooding your inbox with hate.  You are not a coward for wanting to see the faces of the people who felt the need to take the time out of their day to bait and harass you.  Anons harassing you this way want you to post their answers for others to see, because if it was just about making you feel bad, they’d PM you directly to tell you how much they hate you.  No, it’s about the fact that they can do it with zero repercussions.  Don’t let them get the chance.

Take breaks.  Log out of the app and have some food and water.

If you see a post that makes you angry, ask yourself if seeing the same topic in a week will make you just as angry.  Ask yourself if it’s worth it to spread that anger to others.  Is the information in the post verifiable?  Does it need repeating?  If the answer to any of these questions is “no” I suggest not spreading it.

If you’re about to argue with someone over their stupid opinions, ask yourself...  “Will this argument die out after five minutes?  Am I prepared if it goes on longer than that?  Is this person probably too stupid to comprehend that they’re a moron?” and if the answer is “yes” then just take the moral high ground and leave.

If you have a post you’re not sure about (maybe it’s controversial, or maybe you’re just feeling extra anxious today), save it to your drafts and come back to it later.  It may also help you find typos.

Posts that have already been made can be changed to “private” which will allow you to see them, but nobody else.

Alright Those Are Cool Tips!  How Do You Make Tumblr Better For Others?

Be respectful of other’s boundaries.  Unless you’re friends with a blog, do not assume they’re comfortable talking about absolutely everything with you.  The big blogs on this site don’t have social media managers, they’re not therapists, they’re just normal people who didn’t need to wake up to requests for feet pics.  Please be nice to them.

Don’t put unrelated character tags on your posts, it’s especially rude when I’m scrolling through the Eret tag and see unrelated fanart of different characters entirely.

Leave the “#m*neblr” and “#m*necraft” tags alone.  It’s not for us.  Use “#mcyt.”

When you trigger tag things like seizure warnings make sure you’re actually using the correct tag for such things.  For example if you’re tagging gifs for epilepsy warnings, “#epilepsy warning” is better than “#epilepsy” since the first tag is a warning, and the second tag is just the name of the medical condition itself. (Don’t have epilepsy, it’s just a good example)

I love it when people leave nice things on my posts!!  I love it so much!!!!! Putting things in the tags is nice if you think your comment might be cluttering, but you want others to see it don’t be shy about slapping it into the reblogs :)

Remember that there is a myriad of reasons someone might not have answered an ask you sent!  Tumblr really does eat asks sometimes for unknown reasons, the contents might not have made the recipient comfy, or they might have cleaned the inbox out, or they just might not have wanted to answer it.  The recipient might not be comfortable with you sending an ask about where the first one went, but if they are, please be polite and know they don’t have to answer you if they don’t want to!!

Sometimes fandom drama can get out of hand.  You know the author of the Dream Apologist Manifesto?  They got death threats.  Don’t contribute to harassment, no matter how much you think it’s deserved.  Don’t be that guy.

Before I make any new posts, I should say a couple of things just for the record.

1. From here on in, I’ll be trying to put // in-between words like RW//BY, rw//de, and ht//dm. I understand that this is probably going to be very annoying, but it’s all in an effort to get people to leave me alone like I’ve been begging them to for like a year now. Hopefully this makes my content less likely to show up in the RW//BY tag and although it’s recently been proven to me that people are specifically evading blocks I have on them in order to stalk me and therefore... They’re gonna see my stuff no matter what I do and despite my best efforts, never let it be said that I’m forcing anyone to or even want people to see my posts.

2. Please no one interact with my posts if you are anti-rwde or think criticism of RW//BY is bad and/or wrong and/or immoral. This includes reblogging, commenting on, or screenshotting and reposting my stuff on your own own blog. This boundary is because I’ve had lots of  horrible stuff said to me in hate anons before and have been treated very rudely several times even off anon, and that’s not good for my mental health even when I mostly blow it off. I’ve got anxiety problems, so even when my brain knows it doesn’t really matter and I can just be like ‘lol what,’ my mind also still makes my body physically react, and it sucks. Even if you aren’t the type of person to send hate anons to strangers or berate strangers for criticizing a cartoon, I try to avoid any and all interactions with people who think criticism is bad and wrong or who buy into the whole ‘purge the HT//DM’ stuff because historically, that hasn’t ever gotten me anywhere good and usually leads to someone else feeling justified in attacking me instead. Regular fans of RW//BY are welcome, but please note where it says ‘not looking to debate’ and ‘mostly for venting’ in my bio.

3. If you’re someone who decides to ignore Point number 2 there and are an anti-rw//de ‘purge the HT//DM’ sort who insists on interacting with my content in any way: Please don’t screenshot any portion of any of my posts and repost it on your own blog. Please just comment or reblog my original post. I do not want contact with anyone who is anti-rwde, BUT I would much rather deal with that than realize that (or hear from others that) someone I don’t know took a part of my post - probably out of context - and made some ‘arguments’ against my posts and berated me and made fun of me while I had no way of defending myself or explaining my perspective or points. I would literally rather get hate anons than deal with that, because it makes me very anxious when that happens. So just to repeat: Please do not screenshot any portion of any of my posts and repost it to your own blog. If you’re anti-rwde and are already ignoring my boundary of ‘do not interact,’ please respect this boundary at least.

4. If the above boundaries are dismissed, I’ll add on another one here: If you’re an anti-rw//de person and you do decide to intrude on my boundaries and you do decide to screenshot my posts and put them to your own blog, please screenshot the whole thing. I know, I know, it’s more convenient to only have to take the one screenshot and no one wants their followers to get bored, but this is something I want for good reason! It’s regular practice for people to take things out of context or completely misrepresent them. It’s an easy way to deceive followers or to pretend someone is worse than they are. It also often completely ignores points that the person doing the reposting either doesn’t want to address or doesn’t have an argument for. If I was going to be generous, I’d say that the way that posts get twisted out of context completely is something that some people haven’t quite realized, so... Yeah. For the record, I’ve had too many people take my stuff out of context and lie about me or my sister or ignore the basic point of a post in order to nitpick something they also took out of context, so this is a boundary that I would like to put in place.

“But Kitkat,” Someone out there might say. “If you don’t like getting hate anons, getting lied about, being berated, or dealing with people cyber-stalking you, why not just leave?” Well, because it’s not my job to stop cyber-stalking myself. And also, the whole reason people do this is to try to bully people out of expressing their opinions, soooooo. Yeah.
