I kept this in my drafts cause I was gunna expand on it, but I dunno if I need to. Either way, I thought it was interesting that the refugee trio from Canaan are all just different aspects of Grief represented through the kaleidoscope of their personhood. Because mourning is a spectrum, no more or less vivid for the death being metaphorical or literal, and there’s been some weird hot takes that more or less emotive grieving is ‘strange’ or whatever, so, onward!
Judith is unable to feel her own emotions (or at least with any depth) because she's made herself an emotional void, due to training (Cohort AND Second expectations), repression and losing Marta. She was already constipated and that tipped her over to cutting her own throat so she’d emotionally starve.
The last emotive thing she had was oh captain my captain levels of obsession for the woman that rejected her romantically, DUTY, and with equal verve the self loathing for wanting that.
(Also she was being medically maltreated by BoE and then used as a Duracell so y'know, you can not like the woman for being an unsympathetic hypocrite but also, rough ol' time for Jodypops)
Corona has used the flamboyance of her emotions as a manipulation tactic since she was like.. 5 and oops it suddenly stopped working! The tits, the smiles and the twinkly eyes have no effect in camo land, if anything, they are tired of her shit and only “warm up” to her when she starts submitting to them in ways they understand (Re: BoE are a hierarchy and she is Not the top rung). She's also grieving Ianthe not wanting her (worse, choosing BABS) and failing to throw her Pretty Girl weight around as much as she used to, whilst cosplaying a Cav to feel worth something (habitual, comforting).
On top of that, she’s bouncing from pillar to post in an attempt to be desired because her worth is locked up in other’s perception of her. (She fails so hard to connect with anyone she starts chatting up G2deon's corpse like.. It's SAD even if she's Tridentarii heinous (affectionate insult))
And Camilla is forcing herself not to feel because she doesn't have time for a breakdown. She's tick listing how to “make things right” through torture (shock bracelet) being used as a means of coercion for Judith (also torture) having what was left of Pal taken away from her (I mean this literally and figuratively, because his skull, then hand, are hope AND HIM) ((likewise the BETRAYAL from a necro and a cav about it)) and being denied doing GOOD (denial of treatment of Judith). I think honestly she reacts the most MUNDANELY, by just... powering through, keeping busy, not thinking about it because then it'll be real.
And she doesn't let herself break until Paul, because she’s still trying to fix everything until the very moment it’s un-fixable. (And in some ways Palamedes takes the burden of it for her, by giving her the choice, the "it's okay, now, you can feel". All that time, bottling the HURT because she has to be useful because if she's not useful what's left? It's the vice of grief as you excuse yourself from the young woman you're caring for, it's locking the bathroom door, sitting in the bath and your body betraying you with the mother and fucker of a panic attacks. It's getting punched in the solar plexus because you turned around to make a comment and not only is that person gone, but they aren’t coming back.
None of them are any more or less tragic, but they are all acceptable and staggeringly normal forms of grieving.

❝Drink from me and live... forever.❞
MDNI.
𖤐❝I promise.❞𖤐
𖤐 It was late fall. You were twelve years old.
The water was cold between your fingers. The grass was soft as you laid on your stomach.
    You were all alone.
The rest of the village was gathered together, celebrating the life of your recently departed mother.
But you did not feel like celebrating. You only felt like dunking your head in the water and screaming until you ran out of air.
When you sat up to do so, a familiar presence had stopped you before you could.
"Go away, Mingi..." You already knew it was the invisible man. You didn't have to look or ask.
The grass beside you sunk as his unperceivable form took a seat next to you.
"You're in pain. Has someone harmed you-"
"I said go aw-"
"I will do no such thing." You were shocked at his sudden stern tone. In the years that he's haunted both your dreams and your waking hours, he's always been soft spoken towards you. "I will do no such thing," he repeated a bit softer when he sensed your unease, "I will not leave your side when you are in such pain. Pray tell me, what has hurt you?"
You looked towards the water. The river where he had first came to you, that day you were learning how to fish from your mother. "I cannot speak it aloud... it's too horrible."
You felt his cold hand on your back, you felt him looking at you. You pulled your knees up and hugged them to your chest.
"Your mother?" He asked gently, getting his answer when you began to sob immediately. "Oh, sweet child," his ghostly embrace was more comforting than you felt it should have been; but you took what you could get. "I wish I was here with you. One day I will hug you and make all of your pain go away. I promise." 𖤐
"Did you hear me?" Wooyoung reaches across the gap between his horse and your and Hongjoong's, flicking your arm.
"Owwww," you draw on dramatically, "what was that for?"
You had been journeying with the Vampires for twelve days. Despite your initial efforts to distance yourself, to build a metaphorical wall between you and the trio, you started opening up to them around the eight day mark.
You no longer flinched from every touch, but you certainly didn't search them out. You didn't keep your answers to their questions to one or two words anymore, but you didn't offer them anything unprompted.
"I said we have about another three hours before we reach the castle," he repeats what you missed while you were stuck in your own memories, "do you need to stop for a little bit?"
"Oh," you shake your head, "no, I'm okay. Thank you, My Lord."
Hongjoong hums from behind you, resting his chin on your shoulder. "Your hips must be aching by now, you are still not used to being on horseback."
"I can bare it," you sigh, fidgeting with the bandage on your hand. "My Lords, might I ask a question?"
"Didn't you just?" Yunho, from his own horse in front of you, smiles over his shoulder, "of course, speak freely amongst us."
"Well," you take a breath. You don't know if you really want the answer. Because you're afraid. But going in blind is worse. "What will happen when we arrive to the castle?"
"No need to be frightened." Yunho speaks softly — and you don't have to ask how he knows you're scared. After almost two weeks with the councilmen and their subordinates, you know they can hear your heartbeat quickening no matter how steady you try to keep it with deep breaths. "We will call upon the rest of our soulmates, if they don't greet us when we arrive."
"That's very well but..."
"But...?" Wooyoung mimics you, tilting his head.
"Will... uhm, forgive me for being so crass, My Lords, but will they drink from me like you did?" You really don't want them to. Even though you were beginning to form a sort of trust with the trio, the times they fed from you over the past days always left you feeling queasy.
It was nowhere near as bad as the first time, when you had nearly passed out from the blood loss, but it still leaves you feeling dizzy and oddly warm.
You don't want that feeling from anyone, really. It feels sinful. The warmth in your body feels like it taints your soul. At least with the three of them, you have some sort of idea what to expect. Again, you have the beginnings of trust with them. They always ask for permission after the first day in the church. And you always grant it because something deep inside of you feels... sad at the thought of denying them.
Yunho is the gentlest, but he has the biggest thirst. Perhaps he's careful with you on purpose because he knows that you'll be losing a lot of blood. After you offer up your wrist to him, he kisses your forehead before taking as little as possible — which for him is still... a fair amount.
Hongjoong falls somewhere in the middle. He prefers your neck, which you had found always makes you dizzy the fastest, and left you feeling the warmest. He likes to feed at night; he climbs on top of you when everyone besides the designated guard is asleep and the only thing you see when awakening at the feeling of his lips on your throat is his glowing eyes.
Wooyoung... well, for a lack of better words; Wooyoung is feral. He's only fed from you twice since the day in the church because he knows that he can't handle it — he knows he can't stop himself. Maybe going hand in hand with that, feeding into it, is the fact that he waits until his hands are shaking and his throat is bone dry to feed from you because he's so afraid to harm you. When he finally does ask, and you remove your cloak; he doesn't have any preference or favorite. He tackles you and holds you tightly as he feeds from you, moaning and growling all the while.
If Yunho's soft kiss of gratitude leaves you warm, if Hongjoong's preference for your neck makes you hot — Wooyoung's begging eyes and bestial noises throw a match into your very being and set you ablaze.
But it's been two days since any of them last sunk their fangs into you, and you've connected the reasoning as to why. Wooyoung said the High King has a "large appetite" and Manon was making sure you were very hydrated.
You aren't an idiot.
They're preparing you to be sucked dry.
"Not all at once, no," Hongjoong reassures you with a soft squeeze to your hip. "Since we're already more used to your scent, we will make sure they stay in line. Though..." You can tell he doesn't want to tell you this next part, but he does anyway, "I will tell you that I have never known the High King to wait for anything he wants, and he will want you immediately."
He can hear you gulp. Your heartbeat rattling your rib cage. "I will make sure he's gentle, little one. No harm will come to you. I promise."
𖤐❝It is you.❞𖤐
To say that the castle is imposing would be an understatement. You can almost feel all of the darkness wafting off of the expansive building as you grow ever closer.
When you came up the large hill it was situated upon, a bell had started ringing. You didn't have to be told that the sound was to tell others of the return of the councilmen. Others that include the High King and the rest of his council.
Hongjoong squeezes your hip gently as he hears your heartbeat speeding up.
There's a parade of servants that are lined up by the main doors, all bowing as your entourage finally arrives right in front of the castle.
"Rise." Is all that Hongjoong says, and they all snap into action; running to help the others in tending to the horses or carrying bags.
He jumps down and points to one of them, beckoning him forward. The servant bows, "thank Th-"
"No time for formalities. Yes, 'thank The Goddess, My Lords have returned safely', blah blah blah. Listen closely. Gather the others. Gather the King. Tell them we have found her."
Hongjoong watches the boys eyes widen, and follows his gaze. Wooyoung is helping you down, holding you upright as you stumble.
The Lieutenant looks back to the boy, "did I say stare at her?"
    "Apologies, Lord Kim-"
"No. I didn't. Hurry now, they have waited long enough."
The boy disappears before his eyes, nothing but a blur as he hurries to inform the rest of the royals.
"I told you we should have stopped," he hears Yunho chastise you as he approaches, grabbing the bag of your possessions. They made it painfully clear when someone else tried to carry your things at an early stop in a city — don't do that.
"I'm fine, really, Lord Jeong," your rebuttal is dulled by the way you cling to Wooyoung for support.
"Mhm," Hongjoong manages to make his hum the most sarcastic noise on the face of the planet, and smirks as you throw a measly glare his way.
"You should have a warm bath to soothe your hips-"
"They're ready for you, My Lords," the boy Hongjoong had sent was already back, panting as he bows.
"You're fast," Hongjoong smiles, patting his shoulder as he passes, "good job, kid."
As Wooyoung helps you towards the open doors, the now smiling boy bows once again. When you bow back weakly; the healer yanks you back up. Before you have the chance to question him, the sounds of the castle overwhelm you.
It's bustling with life, or rather with undeath, at the return of the councilmen and the quick spreading information that they have come back with their soulmate.
People are running around, bowing and reuniting and talking amongst themselves. While you feel a lot of eyes on you, wherever you look the person is always quickly looking down and bending at their waist as you pass with Wooyoung on one side of you and Yunho on the other.
You try to take in everything going on around you, you glance at all of the grandeur with awe in your eyes that makes the Vampires smile. They know you've never left your village before they arrived and effectively stole you away; and they've taken great pleasure in showing you all kinds of things at every opportunity, every city that you passed through.
"-had better be important." Someone's sleepy grumble breaks your inspection of the walls and their decorations as Hongjoong throws open a door.
"Family!" He smiles brightly, earning another groan.
"How can you possibly be so energetic after such a journey?"
Wooyoung helps you up the small step into the room, and the idle chatter stops. When Yunho closes the door to the room behind you, it cuts off the lively noise of the castle.
The room must be a meeting area. Almost all of the space is taken up by an enormous table, nine chairs around it.
"Dear Goddess..." Your eyes flick to the man who spoke. He has hair that matches Yunho, a light blue. He feels... familiar. He's looking at you like he's looking past your skin, into your soul.
    Because he is.
He barely even registers that you've grown up, that you look almost entirely different. Because your soul looks exactly the same even as the years have worn down the edges of it. "(Y/n)?"
    The others look between you.
You hold onto Wooyoung's sleeve as your gut fills with unease, not enjoying their eyes on you one bit.
"This is her." Hongjoong pulls back a chair and sits back with a wide smirk. "This is our soulmate."
    The room explodes with action.
You're yanked from Wooyoung's side, into the arms of a buff man. "I knew it! I knew we would find you! Oh, you're so soft," he's nearly purring in your ear, holding you tightly as your feet hover above the ground.
Two of them are asking a million questions at once, directed towards you and towards the trio that is responsible for finding you.
The familiar man slaps his hands together and starts praying, thanking The Goddess in jumbled and hurried words.
At the head of the table, the Vampire with pink hair lets his jaw drop. "...What?"
The chaos continues, questions flying and making your head hurt even though you don't even try to answer them.
"Quiet!" The pink haired man bellows, and everyone stills effectively immediately. The man with his arms around you tightens his grip.
You've already made a guess, and it's proven right. This is the High King. You don't dare look at him after all of the rumors you've heard. It was frightening enough when some of the ones you've heard about the Lieutenant were proven right.
Those about Lord Kim were almost harmless. Those about High King Park Seonghwa are anything but.
"Let the girl down," he orders, and the man does so carefully. Yunho is there to steady you, leading your cowering form to the only empty seat beside his own.
Across the table from Seonghwa, at the other end of the giant table. The distance doesn't provide much comfort when you know just how fast they can move.
As you sit, Wooyoung speaks with a grin, "isn't she precious?" Hongjoong swears that there's stars in the younger man's eyes, and he can't blame him at all.
"Your name is (Y/n)?" Seonghwa ignores his words, looking at you closely and listening to your racing heartbeat.
"Yes, My King." You whisper, digging your nails into the wooden armrests. You had imagined a thousand different ways this would go if the High King didn't approve of having you as a soulmate. It didn't matter how attached his loyal councilmen were to you if he didn't want you around.
"It's her. It's her, I have no doubt-" Mingi's voice is cut off by the rushing wind as Seonghwa all but teleports to the other side of the table.
You yelp as his face is suddenly in the crook of your neck. He sniffs deeply, and grabs onto the armrests next to your hands. You slam your eyes shut, forcing yourself to tilt your head back in submission. He lets out a pleased groan, inching closer.
The rest watch on, the trio who's already experienced it sharing a smirk as they watch the eldest Vampires skin come in contact with yours.
The tip of his nose touches your neck and his lips widen in a cheshire grin. A million sparks travel through your body from the contact point. "It is you."
He leans back, licking his lips. They can all tell he wants to have a taste. The glint in his eyes is undeniable.
But, much to their surprise, he doesn't. He's holding back. He never holds back.
He's back in his seat, breathing deeply and swallowing before he speaks. "Might you explain what happened, Hongjoong?"
As he does, you take a sneaking glance at each of the council. Every time, you're caught — but it doesn't stop you. Especially because they meet your gaze with bright smiles. The only one you don't look at is Seonghwa.
"You've already been feeding on her?" Yeosang, you've learned, has a small pout as Wooyoung lets slip a comment about how good you taste; and the other two agree with breakneck speed.
"Have you no self control?" San, ironically the one who grabbed you, slaps Wooyoung's arm.
"No, no," Hongjoong shakes his hands, "the myths are true. A soulmates blood is... it's a drug. She's a drug. None of you would be able to resist either."

Seonghwa tuts his tongue, "I find that hard to believe." No, he doesn't. Even just smelling your blood through your skin had his fingers itching to grab you and never let go.
He looks to you. You don't meet his gaze even though he knows you can feel it. "Did they hurt you in their haste?"
    "No, My King."
Yunho holds back a chuckle at your formality with the man. You were like that with him not too long ago.
"I don't believe it, either. No body can make a Vampire lose control by their smell alone. Especially not any of us," Jongho takes a deep inhalation, trying to get a whiff.
Mingi hasn't taken his eyes off of you the entire time. He's afraid that if he even blinks that he will wake up from this dream.
"She can." Wooyoung stands quickly, turning and rummaging in a drawer. "Here." He's next to you, a needle in between his fingers.
You take it slowly, looking up at him with your brows pinched together in confusion. Then, it dawns on you. "Lord Jung, no-"
"Yes. Prove to them that The Goddess has crafted you just for us. Even the blood that pumps from your heart is created with our souls in mind."
You look to Hongjoong. He promised no harm would come to you, and this seemed like a surefire way to get yourself bitten. But he nods.
You feel like you've never been so exposed in your life.
There's eight pairs of eyes on you, each of which belonging to a Vampire more frightening than the last one you look at.
As you scan the royals slowly, your hand starts trembling. "Do- do I have to, My Lords?"
"Yes," Yunho meets your gaze as you come back to him quickly after taking a peek at the High King. "It's okay ba." He's taken up your dialect in your two weeks together. It makes you slightly less nervous. "We won't let them get out of control."
You take a deep breath and look down at your hands. You pinch the needle tighter and bite your tongue as you prick your finger.
You know realistically that this is a horrid idea. But you seem to trust the three men enough to purposely make yourself bleed in a room full of bloodthirsty strangers.
The reaction is instant and intense, just as it was in the church. San is held back from literally climbing over the table by his belt. Yeosang is sucking in shaking breaths through his mouth, forcing himself to look away. Jongho, the youngest, is slammed back into his chair as he growls and fights against the Lieutenant. Mingi slaps a hand over his mouth, but his eyes still never leave you even as they morph into a crimson color that shows his desires. Wooyoung is smirking as he holds back Seonghwa by his shoulders.
"Please, please," Jongho pleads, meeting your shock widened eyes.
Is he... pleading with you?
"Just a lick," he pants, his red eyes filled with hunger and primal want, "just one?"
"We told you," Hongjoong giggles at the youngests pout, "she's nearly irresistible. Yunho," he nods to the taller man; and he gets the message.
"No!" San whines, a legitimate sorrow in his voice as Yunho leans over and licks the blood from the tip of your finger. He groans as he falls back into his chair defeated, Seonghwa and Jongho following suit.
The lot of them are breathing heavily, purposely to get the remaining scent of your blood or unintentionally from the ton of bloodlust they were just smacked with that was unlike anything they've ever experienced.
You cower in the chair, gulping past the lump in your throat. You were certain that something would go horribly wrong, but the trio held true to their promises to keep you fairly safe.
"I-" The King stutters, gripping the edge of the table with a vengeance. "I should... we should..."
"Take your time, Hwa," Hongjoong chuckles, reaching over and rubbing your arm gently —
"Welcome home, little one."
𖤐❝She is delicate compared to us.❞𖤐
Seonghwa sits back on his throne slowly, grabbing the sides with trembling hands. He's deeply regretting not sinking his teeth into you, but he knows that this is a... delicate situation.
When he had found the rest of his soulmates, they were already turned. And while their blood tasted good, it wasn't nearly as tempting as whatever divine curse you are.
He's been waiting since the day he was born to finally be complete. Now he has all eight of his soulmates under the same roof and he let you be lead away to rest — to rest! He should be worshipping you right now!
"Ymanya!" He yells loudly, leaning forward with his head in his hands.
"Yes, My King?" The elderly looking woman bows as she quickly runs to the throne.
"I have a new job for you."
    "A job, King?"
"Yes, a promotion. You are no longer the manager of the staff," he leans back and crosses his legs as he looks down at her. "This job is much more important, so I need you to listen closely, yes?"
     "Of course."
"You will be the keeper of the Lady of Halazia."
"The Lady?! You finally found her?" She clasps her hands together, tilting her head back in a short prayer.
"Indeed, and she is a human," he thinks back to you, your image is haunting him, "she... she is delicate compared to us. I am placing her under your care. If harm is to befall her in any way when we are not present — any manner at all, I will hold you personally responsible. If she trips and falls, I will push you down the stairs. If she gets a cold, I will make you sleep outside. Should she go hungry, you will not even see a drop of blood for weeks. Do you understand where I am going with this?"
"Yes, My King," she nods, "you needn't worry. I will take the utmost care of the Lady."
"Good. You are my most capable servant, have I told you that before?" He half-smiles, watching her return the favor.
   "Many times, King."
"Make sure that it keeps true. We have waited a long time for her, make her feel welcome. Have Gele accompany you, as well. She is good with humans."
When she bows and turns to leave, he calls out before she can —
    "One more thing, Ymanya."
    "Yes, My King?"
"Report back to me with what you learn about her. I want to know everything about our Lady."
𖤐❝Why else would The Goddess give you such a fate?❞𖤐
    Clang!
   "Gele, be careful."
You stir at the sound of footsteps around you; groaning as you nuzzle deeper into the pillow.
"Shh, don't wake the Lady." The soft voice whispers, "Lord Jeong will have our heads."
You sit up quickly as you realize where you are.
The chambers they provided you with are bigger than your entire home back in Caethnor.
After being led to them by a servant, who was (very threateningly) told to treat you with the utmost respect, you were left alone for a while.
You did not mind one single bit. It was the first time you had been alone for more than fifteen minutes in days.
You had sat down on edge the large bed and hummed. It was... very comfortable. Just to feel it, you thought as you laid back — and then you were promptly asleep.
By the look of the sun casting the startled strangers in the golden hour light, that had to have been a few hours ago.
The two women jump back, one of them clutching an empty bucket to her chest tightly, "ah!"
"What are you doing?" You scramble to your knife, gripping the handle when the older looking woman speaks.
"Oh, My Lady please! Please, don't fret! Lord Jeong sent us to fill you a bath," she explains quickly, raising her hands to show you that she means no harm.
You eye them frantically, the bucket and the fact that they seem dressed like the other servants you had seen corroborate with her words. You let go of the dagger on your boot and bow to them, "sorry, you startled me."
When you come back up, they look completely in shock. "...Is something the matter?"
"My Lady, you needn't bow to us," the younger girl with red hair shakes her head, "you are our superior."
You rub your eye as you slide to the edge of the bed, "what?" You must still be foggy with sleep.
"Oh, Gele," the older woman turns to the redhead, "she was a common villager, she does not know these things! My apologies," she turns back to you, smiling sweetly, "this all must be very drastically different for you."
"Uhm," you clear your throat. It's the first time someone has acknowledged that. "I suppose it is."
"Here, come with me, child," she approaches slowly and waits for you to grasp her hand. "My name is Ymanya, this here is Gele." She explains softly as you take her wrinkled hand, standing to follow her. "We will be your maids."
"I do not think I will need any maids..."
"Then our jobs should be easy," Gele giggles lightly as she sets the bucket down, testing the temperature of the water in the tub that they had managed to fill without waking you.
It was only separated from the rest of the chamber by a folding screen, and you almost wonder how they managed such a task before you remember how little sleep you had gotten on the journey.
"Forgive my bluntness," Ymanya hums before going on, "but the Lords have hand picked us to care for you, and we must do our very best to please them. They have told us they will have nothing but perfection when it comes to your wellbeing." She can sense your hesitation about having someone doing things for you, and she places a hand on your shoulder, "you can think of us as your assistants. We are here to make your life easier, My Lady."
You can't think of anything that you can't do on your own — but you know that it's probably a useless task to argue with the council. "Must you call me that if we will be so close?"
"What else would we call you?" Gele asks as she settles on the stool in the area.
"My name, I would think," you laugh a bit, watching Ymanya reach into a cabinet and retrieve a towel.
"The Lords have told us to only refer-"
"Well, what they don't know won't kill them." You sigh, "please, when it is just us; don't use that ridiculous title. I'm not a Lady."
It's their turn to be hesitant, thinking over whether or not this is a test. "You are," Ymanya nods, "you are The Lady of Halazia now. You're fated to the most powerful men in the realm, we should address you with respect."
You shake your head, having a hard time grasping the concept. You are no Lady, you're just a nun from Caethnor. "Respect should be earned-"
"My Lady (Y/n)," Gele perks up, gesturing towards you, "that might please both you and our Lords. Is that okay?"
"I... well, I suppose that's better." You give her a smile, "I am okay with that. Should the Lords have a problem with it, I will try to tell them such."
You jump when Ymanya's hand comes in contact with the back of your dress. "Actually!" You turn around quickly, "this is one task I would much rather do on my own." You ramble out quickly, shaking your head.
"Of course, Lady (Y/n)," the grey haired woman smiles apologetically, bowing as she ushers the younger girl out, "but I bid you not tell the Lords. We promised Lord Jeong that we would help you. But, I know that it would probably be most uncomfortable for you."
"It would," you gulp, making the woman chuckle. You're so tremendously different from her Lords. You were born a commoner but you were fated for royalty... it might be nice to have someone like you in the castle. "I will not tell if you don't."
"A deal, then." She steps forward again and takes your hands, looking at you sincerely, "I hope to help you adjust to life here, Lady (Y/n). I know it is all a lot of change... but you seem like a strong girl. Why else would The Goddess give you such a fate?"
"Thank you, Ymanya," you squeeze her hands gently. She has an aura of nurture around her, you don't even care that her hands are freezing cold. She's a warm person.
"We have all waited a long time for you," she looks down, squeezing your hands back, "I am glad to have you join us, My Lady (Y/n)."
𖤐❝I should educate you quickly.❞𖤐
"Lady (Y/n)?" Gele knocks on the wall next to the screen divider, hovering just outside of it.
"Yes?" You hum from the water. You should thank them for working so fast to get the hot water in the tub, it feels wonderful on your sore muscles. It's a pleasant feeling to truly wash yourself, not just clean up in whatever body of water you could find.
"The Lords Choi have requested your presence in the dining hall after you are finished, should I tell them you accept?"
"Uhm..." You sit up in the water, pushing back your hair, "which ones is that, Gele?"
"The Lords? The Choi brothers, San and Jongho."
They were both having to be held back, if you recall correctly — and you do. You aren't entirely sure if you want to be alone with them-
    "My Lady, if I may..."
    "Yes, what it is?"
"Lord Kim will also be in attendance, if that eases your anxieties. I know you traveled with him."

It peeves you that it does, in fact, ease some of your worries. With a sigh of trepidation, you go against your want to just crawl back into the bed and tell her, "yes, tell them I will join them, please."
     "Right away, Lady (Y/n)."
You hear the click-clack of her shoes and the soft closing of the door, waiting for it to clunk into place before you stand and carefully pull yourself out of the tub.
This place compared to everything you've ever known is like comparing night and day.
You've never known anything besides your little home, and here you are in chambers big enough to put your house inside of; with people calling you 'Lady' and luxuries that you didn't even think of when you thought of how royals might live.
As you dry yourself with the ridiculously soft fabric, you hear the door open again. Ymanya's voice follows, "yes, place them just over there on the bed. The Lady will go through them."
"Shall I take her measureme-"
"Not tonight, she has had rough travels. We will-"
"Ymanya?" You call softly, wrapping the fabric around you tightly at the sound of an unfamiliar man's voice.
"Yes, My Lady?" She responds quickly, shooing the man out of the room and closing the door behind him.
"Who was that?"
"The royal tailor, he has brought some gowns for you. Might I help you get dressed?" She stops just outside of the divider, remembering that you aren't just any Lady or Lord she's served. You aren't used to having people wait on you.
"Gowns? What about my clothes, where are they?" You peek your head out the side of the screen, jumping back when you come face to face with the elderly woman.
"Apologies," she bows a bit as she backs up, "they are being cleaned. And the Lords have had these dresses prepared for a long time, it would greatly please them if you wore one." She looks at you in a way that tells you it's probably a smart idea to start pleasing them; eyes flicking between you and the pile of clothing. "Would you like me to help you pick one?"
Begrudgingly, you step out from behind the privacy barrier and hold the fabric around you tightly. "I suppose so."
She goes through them as she hangs them up in the large wooden closet in the room. They all look like they'll fit you, maybe a few adjustments needed to be perfect — but that isn't what makes you hesitate to pick.
What gives you pause, is the fact that they are all so clearly made for a proper Lady. Supported bodices and flared sleeves and frills and lace corsets in the backs of most of them. Even the basic white shift and stockings you now had on were made of what feels like heaven against your skin.
"Please, My Lady," she sighs, "I know that you probably have never worn such gowns, but I fear the Lords will grow impatient."
You trill your lips as you look over them again. You certainly don't want to make them wait even longer, so you force yourself to choose. "This one."
You can't lie and say it isn't beautiful, because it is. The deep purple fabric has swirling flowers embroidered on the skirt, and the black bodice is meant to be tightened with the matching ribbon that weaves in the back of the torso. But it's meant to be worn by royalty, and you feel far from worthy.
She helps you slip the fabric over your head and smoothes out the skirt with a small smile, "have you ever had your hair done, Lady (Y/n)?" She asks as she comes behind you and begins tightening the built in corset.
"Not since I was a child, no..."
"Allow me to do it, come," she leads you quickly to the short chair by the vanity and sits you down. "A Lady should always have her hair done, that is one thing I must insist on." She jokes lightly, carefully combing through your hair.
"Only because you insist." And only because it reminds you of a simpler time, when your mother would sit you in her lap and put intricate traditional braids in your hair. "May I ask you a question, Ymanya?"
"Of course, My Lady. I will answer any questions you have."
"Is there any traditions in Halazia that I should be aware of? I didn't have the best education on those kinds of things."
"Oh, there is many. Too many to tell you them all now, I'm afraid. Perhaps you can ask the Lords to provide you a tutor — if you want, of course."
You hum in response, fingers tracing the frill of lace on your sleeve. "Well, any that I should know tonight?"
She thinks for a moment, her hands pausing as something comes to mind. "Well... perhaps one that I should warn you of."
"Warn?" You look up to her, eyebrows raised.
"It's not so much of a tradition as it is... as it is just something that happens. Just something the K-" The smell of your fear is growing as she speaks, and she figures she should stop lest the King have her head if he smells it as well. But you look so pure and... you remind her of someone. She wants you to have a fighting chance; not be smacked in the face with what the night has in store for you. "I'm sorry, My Lady, might I ask you somewhat of an improper question?"
    "Improper how...?"
"Lady, forgive me, but are you a virgin?"
"What?!" You squeal, eyes widened at such a sudden and personal question. "I- What kind-"
"Lady (Y/n), please answer the question."
You turn back around in the chair quickly. "I... I am."
That changes just about everything. She needs to tell them, and fast. "Do you know... do you know how those things happen?"
"Ymanya, please! This is much too scandalous to speak so freely of..."
She sighs, going back to fixing your hair as she speaks, "in your village, perhaps. But in Halazia, we speak rather plainly about sex. The Lords are often seen kissing and," she clears her throat, "kissing among other things around the castle. It is not taboo here."
"Why are you telling me this?" You ask shortly. You want this conversation to be over. Because you had just imagined Wooyoung and Yunho kissing each other, and it gave you the same heat in your body that you felt after they drank from you. You need to pray after conjuring such a sinful scene.
"I would like to warn you, because I can tell you are pure of soul and of body... the Lords do not only have a strong craving for blood."
You hesitate to ask, but you feel you must.
    "Meaning what exactly?"
"Meaning; perhaps if you do not know what to expect, I should educate you quickly."
𖤐❝What else am I to do when your heart smells so fearful?❞𖤐
Your heart is pounding wildly, despite the fact that you have now been sitting down for a few minutes.
The large dining hall was empty, and that somehow made the situation worse. Now you had to sit in silence as you thought over everything that Ymanya told you as she finished your hair and led you to the room.
Wooyoung conveniently left out the fact that the Kings large appetite was not limited to blood when you spoke all those nights ago. Ymanya filled in that missing information with the fact that he had ravaged each of his soulmates the night he found them, and their sounds traveled through the whole castle.
And she was regretful to tell you that she expected no different in his treatment of you. She did, however, tell you that she would try to speak with the King and get him to be gentle. She had been serving the castle since before he was crowned, you had learned along with the barrage of information. He trusted her word and took her advice on things to do with staff and care of the estate.
"Your heart is about to beat out of your chest." Hongjoong's voice spooks you into jumping up from the chair. He's entered along with San and Jongho... and Seonghwa. If the King is here, Ymanya hasn't gotten to speak to him.
If it wasn't before, it certainly is now.
"Hey, what's the matter with you, little one?" He asks softly as he joins your side, carefully lowering you back into the seat. "Has something happened?"
"Uh," you shake your head, trembling, "no. No, My Lord, my apologies. I don't mean to worry you."
"What else am I to do when your heart smells so fearful?"
"Are you frightened of us?" San asks quietly as he takes a seat across from you. "Because you needn't be."
"I'm sorry, My Lords, I am just anxious..."
"Hmm," Hongjoong pouts as he eyes you, "what for? Didn't I say I would take care of you?"
     "Yes, Lord, but-"
"Then don't fret." He leans and pulls you forward gently, kissing your forehead. "You have no reason to be anxious. Let's enjoy a meal with our soulmates."
𖤐❝I promise myself to you.❞𖤐
You had blissfully forgotten all of your worries as you spoke with the men, as you ate together.
You had forgotten most of your fear of the man with pink hair who sat at the head of the table. He's still undeniably intimidating, even as he watches you and the brothers exchange stories with a small smile.
You had, that is, until the sound of hurried footsteps and a voice rang out. "High King!"
Ymanya is bowing repeatedly as she hurries into the room, and seeing her suddenly reminds you why you were freaking out when you sat down.
He doesn't even look away from you as he addresses her. "Is this important, Ymanya?"
"Yes, My King. It is most urgent. I deeply apologize for disturbing you, but I have-"
He looks towards her with a glare, and she stops her rambling. "Then, what is so important that you must barge in here?"
"I'm sorry, My King. Might I speak with you in the-"
"Speak here."
All of your eyes are on her now, and she meets your gaze. Yours isn't annoyed or curious like theirs. Yours is wide and nervous. You shake your head quickly.
Having your maid tell one man that you were a virgin so that he didn't hurt you was one thing. Having her speak it in front of four of them would make you want to disappear from embarrassment.
"Out with it, Ymanya."
"Don't," you manage to squeak as she opens your mouth. "Ymanya, don't."
She looks between the two of you. His gaze demanding and dark, yours scared and embarrassed.
San tilts his head as he leans forward, "Ymanya, you know better than to keep secrets from us."
"O-of course, my Lord, I-"
"Ymanya, please!" You grab Hongjoong's arm as you stand, gripping his sleeve as you look to him, "tell her to stop, Lord Kim. I beg."
"Enough of this!" Seonghwa shouts; slamming his hands on the table, sending you flying into Hongjoongs lap to cower. "Enough. There will be no more of this. If Ymanya knows something important enough to interrupt us, I will know what."
Hongjoong wraps his arms around your trembling figure, "Seonghwa, you are frightening her." He whispers in the tense silence.
"Perhaps you should just speak, Ymanya," Jongho says slowly, placing a hand on Seonghwa's shoulder to ground him.
"I-" She bows deeply, "I'm very sorry My Lady (Y/n). I must tell him. I do not wish for you to be harmed. Your embarrassment will pass."
"Why would I harm her?" He snarls, approaching her slowly. He towers over her, glaring down.
"My King," she looks away from you and towards the floor. "The Lady is a virgin. I bid you, please do be gentle with her... I know how you are with your soulmates, My King. I only wish for her soul to remain unharmed — for you not to taint your relationship. This is why I tell you."
It's silence for a long moment. Sill. Everyone unmoving. Your ears are ringing and hot as you feel the brothers looking at you.
"You may leave." Seonghwa says, his voice tense as he makes his way back to his seat. "Thank you, Ymanya."
"Of course, My King. Apologies for interrupting you, My Lords." She pauses at you, you look like you want to bolt; but Hongjoongs arms around you stop you from doing so. "Forgive me, My Lady."
"Leave now," Hongjoong nods to the doorway, pulling you closer to his chest.
Her footsteps hurry away just as fast as they came.
Silence. Stillness. The air charged with tension.
"Is this true?" Seonghwa speaks up, eyes back on you and unmoving once more. "You are a virgin?"
You nod, just barely.
"Speak, girl."
"Seonghwa, she's embarrassed, leave her be-" Jongho is cut off your yelp as you're suddenly pulled from Hongjoong's lap.
The King has you pressed to the wall by your shoulders, holding you against it as he looks into your very soul; his eyes red. "Speak."
"Yes." You whimper, looking away quickly.
"How is that possible?"
"Because she hasn't had sex yet, dumbass," Hongjoong joins his side, looking down at you with a small smirk.
"But you're so beautiful." He whispers, his eyebrows pushed together as he inspects you. "How did nobody take you yet?"
"It... it is not done in my village, My King. We wait for our soulmates..."
He bites his lip, taking a few deep breaths.
"Not at all?" San asks as he and Jongho join the elder Vampires in crowding you.
"Not even hand stuff?" Jongho looks, arguably, a little too eager — his previous ideal of letting you have space is gone.
"H-hand stuff?" You gulp, flinching when Seonghwa all but falls onto you. His head on your shoulder and his body pressed against you as he lets out a groan.
"You've never..." Hongjoong trails off, moving his head side to side as he thinks of the words, "touched anyone? A cock? A pussy, maybe?"
"Lord Kim!" You gasp, scandalized, "don't say such things! Of course I haven't touched-" You clear your throat, fidgeting against Seonghwa's weight. "No, I haven't. What is the great big deal? I'm already embarrassed, you needn't tease me."
"Oh, this isn't even close to teasing," San smirks, leaning against the wall next to you. "Wait until Wooyoung finds out, that will be teasing."
"You're going to tell everyone?" You pout, already knowing that, if they're making a big deal of this, the others certainly will as well.
"We have to, little one. Otherwise they might jump your bones before we can do the ceremony."
"Ceremony? What ceremony? I don't want to-"
"You must," Seonghwa growls from your neck, startling you, "we must. When a Vampire takes a virgin, it is different. It is not just simply sex. Because the veil of our souls is thinner, our souls will touch when I... when..." He pants, his hands grabbing your hips. "Oh, Goddess, give me strength..."
"We will wait until you are ready," Jongho quickly soothes any fear of being forced into a literal soul shaking ceremony, "otherwise, the bond between your souls will be tainted. And — we don't want you to do anything you're uncomfortable with."
That's a little bit of hypocrisy when you're still pinned to the wall.
"It's that powerful?" You ask with wide eyes, fiddling with your sleeves. Talk about pressure. You had a friend who told you losing your virginity was scary, and your fear has been multiplied.
"Indeed, it is," Hongjoong reaches and strokes the back of Seonghwa's head from where it's still buried in your neck. "It's the greatest honor for a Vampire to take someone's virginity. That's why people always sacrifice virgins to us, but really we never care. We don't touch them, it's too intimate."
"Please," Seonghwa whispers mumbled, his lips electrifying your skin, "promise yourself to me. I can make you feel so good when the day comes. I can show you pleasure that you never even dreamt of."
Hongjoong and San share a smirk as they hear your heartbeat thudding faster and faster and faster.
None of them were able to resist Seonghwa when they first came to the castle. Wooyoung was the fastest to cave; he let the older Vampire take him on the stairs, he was so fired up. Yeosang held out the longest, he was the shyest, but still he only held out a measly month and a half.
   Nobody can resist Seonghwa.
Not even you. It's a mix of anticipation and fear which makes you speak —
   "I promise myself to you."
𖤐❝It aches in my bones.❞𖤐
"This place truly never ends, does it?"
You follow Gele the next morning, taking in every little detail as she slowly shows you around.
"It is... expansive," she giggles, opening up yet another door that leads to yet another never ending hall. "This is the- oh, Lord Song." She bows quickly, drawing your attention towards the man.
"My Lord." You bow as well, greeting the blue haired man.
"Ah, what good timing! I was on my way to your chambers," he smiles at you as you rise, his eyes bright in the morning sun that filters through the large windows.
   "Really? What for, Lord?"
"I feel as if we have much to discuss. Gele, if you'll leave us." The woman pauses, taking a look towards you. When he clears his throat, she's quick to disappear.
"Come," he takes your hand and leads you back the way you came. The tingles make your fingers twitch, but you don't let go. "How are you finding your way so far, (Y/n)?"
"Good, I suppose. Thank you, My Lor-"
"You needn't be so formal with me. We know each other!" He throws another smile your way. "Wooyoung told me that you remember me. I'm glad."
"Oh, yes," you nod lightly, "I remember... some. Mostly from my early teenage years."
"I have always been there," he admits quickly as you enter the hall in which your chambers reside, "I tried to check on you at least once a day, even if I didn't show myself."
"Seriously?" You ask jaw-dropped as he opens the door.
"Indeed. How do you find your chambers?"
His quick change of subject catches you off guard, "uhm... good! Very good, My Lor-"
"Mingi." He corrects you quickly, hesitating to let go of your hand.
He looks around the room as if to inspect it. "I haven't been here in some years... not since I lost contact with you. I couldn't bare it."
"Has this-" You hesitate, watching him closely as he takes a seat on the vanity stool.
"Oh, go ahead! I'm sure you have many questions, and I will give you many answers."
You lower yourself onto the end of the bed, looking around the large chambers. "Has this room always been for me?"
"For a very long time." He nods, somewhat of a nostalgic look overcoming him. "After the first time you heard me, we had it renovated. We were sure that you could be joining us any day. We had no idea we would have to wait so long."
"Oh..." You nod, not knowing exactly what to say to him. You feel a bit guilty for whatever reason.
"I used to come here everyday and pray that The Goddess would keep you safe. But, after I could no longer find you, I must admit... I lost my faith for a while."
"Might I ask," you start softly, "how did you manage to lose me? Lord Jung told me that you were veil walking, and I'm afraid I don't know much about that, but... it seems odd for it to just stop."
"Oh, well, I am no walker. I'm just a seer, The Goddess blesses me with visions. After you were born, I felt it — well, we all felt it but I felt it. I felt your soul come into creation. And I begged The Goddess to show you to me, but... all I ever got was blurry images. I learned how to veil walk so that I could find you. Yunho tried, but his soul isn't strong enough for such powers."
You listen to him closely as he continues. "Veil walking is always easier when you are presenting to a child. Their souls are more- more uhm... susceptible. I thought it would be different for us, because we're soulmates. But I think I lost you when you reached womanhood."
You think back to the time. It was around your first blood that he no longer appeared to you. "Oh, yes. That must have been it. I was no longer a child..."
"Must have been." He hums, tilting his head, "why do you ask? Seems an odd thing to be curious about with so much more going on."
Why did you ask? You wonder to yourself for a moment before it suddenly dawns on you. "I do believe I missed you."
His eyes widen ever so slightly, his heart starts beating a little faster. "You did?"
"It's odd but-" you swallow, looking away, "you came to be a sort of comfort to me. Especially after my mother passed. I felt terribly alone... but you were always there. I could feel you even when you didn't speak. I started to think you were my guardian angel."
There's a pause between you, and you look up to see tears forming in his eyes. "Did I say some-"
"Might I give you that hug now?" His eyes are begging. His entire being wants to embrace you. To hold your body and not just hover over your soul like he was forced to do as he watched you grow up.
"Yes." You say before you can think.
"I have missed you, too." He tackles you onto the bed, his arms wrapped around you tightly and your arms quickly giving him the same treatment; albeit weaker.
"My soul craves you in a way that aches. It aches in my bones. When I could no longer see you, I was a mess — I could not sleep, I would not eat, I-" You lean your head onto his shoulder and he sighs softly, holding you closer.
It feels so... right. Like you were made to embrace one another.
"I am happy to see you again, Mingi."
𖤐❝You can handle one more glass, can't you?❞𖤐
"Are you not eating, My King?" You ask as you note his lack of a plate. The others are all eating along side you.
"Not yet," he grins lightly, standing to pour you some more wine. You've already had three glasses.
"Oh, My King, I don't usually drink so much-"
"Well, this is a celebration, isn't it?" He hums while filling your cup, "our first meal together as a completed soul. It's an occasion to drink." He sits back down, holding his cup to yours, "cheers."
You take a breath as you clink your glass to his, "cheers." If they keep up this pace of refilling your wine every time you take a sip, you'll have to be carried back to your chambers. You would already have to be shown the way, no chance you could find your way back through all the twists and turns while your head was so light.
So light, in fact, that you fail to notice that the King doesn't even drink from his glass. You fail to notice his ever present gaze on you.
He said he would wait for you to be ready for intimacy — he said no such thing about waiting to feed on you. He's a patient man, yes. But also one with an insatiable hunger.
He has to have at least a sip of blood a day. Usually he doesn't care from who. But since he had smelled your blood, everything else tasted... off.
He doesn't indulge much in food like the others, only things he liked when he was living. But even his favorite food made him sick. His body only wants you.
"You'll have to teach me sometime," you bow to Yeosang with a slight slur in your voice, "archery is one thing I never did pick up."
"But she can fish like nobodies business!" Wooyoung chuckles, leaning his head on your shoulder; similarly inebriated. For every glass you had drunk, he drunk about three. Vampires have fast metabolism, you suppose. "She spears them with a stick! How badass is that?"
You laugh as you lean your head on his, and the sound of your joy has hearts beating all around the table. "I can teach you someday, if you like. I know something that My Lord doesn't," you giggle drunkenly.
"I would like to learn," San pipes up with a smile, "I can teach you something in return! Woodworking, forgery, armory, sewing, you name it."
"You do all of those?" You ask in awe, usually a worker might know one or two; but then, he has been around a long time. He has had time to master multiple skills.
"Oh, yeah," Hongjoong throws his arm around the man, "Sannie is our jack of all trades." He smiles brightly, kissing his cheek.
You've quickly gotten used to their public displays of affection, it was clear that they had no qualms in showing their love for one another.
And it didn't bother you. You had thought that it might, being that even married couples didn't show much affection where you are from.
"Yunho mi," you call to the man, "I have a question."
"Ask away, (Y/n) mi," he smiles, leaning his head onto his hand.
"How do you make the fire?"
"The fire?" He smirks as he conjures a small flame at his finger tip.
The look of your shock earns you a few laughs. "Yes! How?"
"Magic," he shrugs nonchalantly, "I can do all sorts of things. I can show you, but I'm afraid it can't be taught. You'll have to stick to San and Yeosang for learning new things."
"Oh, I would love to see," you smile, a sparkle in your eyes that has the man just about ready to show you every trick he knows right here and now.
You lean back in your chair as a servant reaches for your plate, giving her the room to gather it. "Thank you." She pauses at your words, looking to the closest Lord; who happens to be Wooyoung because he's attached to your hip. He nods, giving her a stern look.
"Of course, My Lady. You needn't thank me, 'tis my job." She says just above a whisper as she gathers the nearby plates.
"You're so cute," Wooyoung grins as he pulls you over to him and kisses your cheek.
Seonghwa stops the girl when she goes to collect your glass, "let her finish it."
"Of course, My King," she nods, gathering what else she can before leaving with one more glance spared towards you.
Hongjoong leans forward, topping of your drink even as you gesture for him not to, "you don't need to bow to anyone besides us, you're the Lady of the castle."
You hold back a groan as you look at the glass. You don't want to be rude. "Lord Kim, I'm should not drink anymore, perhaps someone else-"
"Drink, little one," he's next to you in a second, picking up your cup. "You can handle one more glass, can't you? For me~?"
Oh. Oh, that pesky heat in your skin is back.
"O-okay," you blink up at him, suddenly very still in your seat as he lifts the cup to your lips.
"Chug," he smirks as you take the glass to your lips, never leaving his gaze as you begin to drink.
"Chug, chug, chug," San and Wooyoung chant as you do just that. The others smile as they watch, Mingi whistling in an impressed manner as you keep up with the way Hongjoong tilts the glass.
A drop leaves the corner of your mouth and travels down your neck. Yeosang watches with wide eyes. "Excuse me." Is all he says before he disappears, a suspicious blush on his face.
You swallow the sweet wine quickly as he all but pours it down your throat, keeping your dazed eyes on his; taking in the way the corner of his lips curl up and expose his fangs.
As he moves the empty glass, you go to take a breath — only to be met with his lips on yours.
You squeal in surprise, your hands hesitating before finding purchase on his wrists as he cups your cheeks.
"Oh, he's going to eat her alive," Wooyoung's joke from beside you never reaches your ears.
Hongjoong rests his forehead on yours, taking in your heavy breaths. When you open your eyes, you find that his have turned red. "Let the King and I drink from you." He hums, cradling your heated cheek, "won't you, little one?"
"Yes..." You slur softly, holding his wrists tightly. "Please."
The others are beyond jealous now, but they let it go. Their time will come. They should have pieced together that they were making you drink so much so that you wouldn't feel as much effects of the blood loss that's to come. Sneaky bastards, taking advantage of your naive nature— why didn't they think of that?
"Come, then," he giggles as he helps up your stumbling figure.
His plan worked like a charm. After hearing how Seonghwa hadn't fed, he came up with it. He's very observant of you, he knows that even the littlest praise or affection leaves you dazed. That, paired with the ever flowing wine that would also help you start pumping more blood, made you putty in his hands.
He felt a little bad, but what was he to do?
You were afraid of Seonghwa, but he had to drink lest he wither away.
And it's been days since he tasted you, he was starting to get restless.
It's not their fault your blood is a drug to them.

"I want you to teach me." You whisper as you look up to him. His eyes are still on the pages, but he isn't registering a single word — and you know it. "Please, My Lord. You said that you would teach me anything I wanted to know."
His nails are digging into the hard cover of the book, leaving crescent indentations. "And that-" He gulps, "that is something you want to learn?"
"Yes." You lean forward, tilting your head, "I trust you to teach me well."
Oh, you probably shouldn't. He's only one bat of your eyelashes away from ripping your dress off and saying 'fuck the ceremony.'

In half baked, Demo is the guy who gets munchies and accidentally kills the horse
Will smoke with Sniper and always provides what he can or hits a curtesy role, but he doesn’t pursue weed much and if snipes didn’t share, probably wouldn’t smoke
It does help the pain from his missing eye!
Pyro
One time, he got wild.
Pyro burned down an entire pot grow and was absolutely spazzing off that za rolling his way down the mountain
They were on the astral plane the entire hike down. Pyro crashed through the trees, crawled, laughed hysterically, cried, and vomited. Pyro drank water from a creek thinking it was the fountain of immortality
Pyro befrinded a squirrle named Banabo Jo. He knew Jo and knew his people were wise and brave. Banabo Jo recognized Pyro’s mystical capabilities and ability to see beyond, thus creating a mutual respect and brotherhood.
Banabo Jo guided Pyro from the mountain top and into the Heart of the Valley. He watched over as Pyro awaited rescue and gave the sacred squirrel farewell through the van window
(hypersensitive to drug induced psychosis)
Heavy
Rolls a blunt on Medic’s back and smokes it while they fuck
Smokes weed but only pipes. Very rarely will roll with paper, typically in the aforementioned situation
He can do some of the smoke tricks like puffing out O’s. He cannot french inhale and tbh has a chronic stuffy nose 😏
Medic
Wholeheartedly believe in and support the usage of medical marijuana
Smoked a little weed in university, but his classmates were too scared of him to invite him to the smoke sesh
He kinda gives off narc vibes!! Completely chill though, unless he could gain from blackmailing you
Asks if Sniper wants to puff and Sniper is shocked! Medic uses pompous words like oder tho and not the German oder
Arches his back so Heavy can sprinkle some flower on him for the roll-hole ritual
Engineer
Scene in Top Gun, “we’re in the spirit world asshole!” HIM OKAY HIM
Builds intricate and sick as fuck bong structures, dab rigs, and some real crazy stoner shit.
He love getting blazed and tinker with something, but that did cost him the tip of his pinkie finger
He’s a lightweight and really just skims a hit or two and bounces
Totally hotboxes that fucking workshop
Spy
He’s a classy kind of smoker
No weed inside, at least not his house. Very discreet about it and even if he was just in the world’s foggiest hotbox, he would never snell like week
No weed smell ever it’s incredible
Mainly sticks to cigarettes but he will smoke with Sniper.
Smoking, whether it be weed or cigarettes, is a form of foreplay for them fr
He never has cotton mouth either
Sniper!!
Save the best for last bc he is a canon pothead
Sniper just tries to be a chill guy. Go to work, fire a gun, smoke some weed. Would he like more? Sure. But is he okay where he’s at? Good enough
The first to discover his gardening habit was Spy. The whole breaking and entering thing really gives away secrets
Sniper has SO MUCH TEA. Various team members come to him and smoke, which is cool with him. He prefers when they replenish his stash, though. Or at least give him something in return
When they smoke they also complain. Inhibitions are dropped and suddenly Sniper knows that Demo is pissed at Medic for not letting him drink rubbing alcohol, every though Demo knew it would kill him, because he and Pyro were trying to light a burp on fire
He only enjoys smoking with Spy and Ms. Pauling. Pauling is fun and they talk mad shit together, maybe do something stupid on a minor scale
Spy and Sniper venture into the bush if yk what im saying. Weed is just kinda a plus but Spy can get too zesty sometimes

Simon Riley/Reader and Keegan/Reader
Hi. I have come out of a almost 6 year writing hiatus and decided to start posting works again. (Yippie😅) I woke up in cold sweat one day about this particular story line and just started writing it down until I gathered the courage to share it... This is a snippet from the 2nd chapter I have on AO3 (I have no clue how to use AO3 in terms of writing OR Tumblr for that fact pls help 😭) but, I'd like to hear some thoughts about how it is, (yay or nay?) aaaannnnddd first ever post on Tumblr whoop! (Apologies for spelling and grammar I still haven't completely edited the chapters fully)
After a few weeks, the divorce was finalized. And those weeks quickly grew into just shy of two months. you didn't even notice, you didn't have the time to even keep up with your own body living in the present. Your daughter didn't deserve to see her mother in shambles like this. Didn't deserve to watch her parents divorce simply because of the lack of communication you hammered into her little head from a young age to express when she was frustrated her sippy cup lid wasn't screwed on all the way and spilled a sticky mess of apple juice all over her chest. Communication, that's an important ingredient. Remember. Communication cannot exist without comprehension. You can bring the horse to water but you cannot force it to drink. You thought you had it all, a loving husband, a beautiful child, a safe home, it was temporary. Ripped from your fingers like a purse stolen by a thief. You will only helplessly watch as your things are being taken from you.
You will continue to claw at your chest and whimper like a wounded animal.
It does not get easier, even right now when it's time for Simon to take Fawn for the weekend again. You can bear the awkward tension, that silence that makes your throat close up and forces your voice to a weak frail squeak. You kept your attention somewhat busy with your work laptop, there are only four emails and you take the time to thoroughly read them, typing calmly to avoid confrontation.
He stood in the kitchen quietly, watching your back. He had a strange lump forming in his throat, his expression hardening as he pushed down all of his emotions, trying not to focus on the guilt and hurt churning inside his chest.
You signed the papers, just like he asked you to.
Simon forced himself to speak, clearing his throat loudly, "Shouldn't you be packing Fawn's stuff?"
"Fawn insisted on packing herself," you gave a half-shrug, "I said why not? It's good for her to learn it and have the harmless joy."
He couldn't help but give a rough scoff at that. You would spoil her too easily. Simon took a few steps, setting his hands down on the kitchen counter, his gaze fixed on your form.
"She'll end up forgetting somethin'. I better go help 'er." He spoke casually, intending to go to check on Fawn and help her pack But something made him hesitate, his gaze snapping back on you. It only made his chest and lungs squeeze tighter as he looked at your closed-off demeanor. His eyes zeroed in on your fingers typing lazily, a strange suffocating feeling overcame him as he tried to figure out how he should address the lack of the wedding band on your finger.
Should he pretend like everything is fine? Would you want to talk?
There was an unnatural suffocating silence that felt like an elephant in the room, a strange tension between the two of you that only made him want to hold his breath. The air was so thick and tense- so unlike the normal energy in the kitchen that was once filled with the smell of your delicious cooking and the squealing laughter of Fawn whenever Simon would occasionally rough house with you while the both of you shared the foot space to cook.
"...You took your ring off," Simon observed in a quiet, defeated tone.
what did he expect?
you stop your typing, your fingers ghosting over typing basic Python codes to your coworker, and you look down on instinct before clearing your throat. Your finger is empty. You will not admit that you took it off once you heard the news.
"Yeah, I did. It's next to the coffee maker if you want it back—oh, congratulations on your engagement." You hesitated before even saying those words. You never thought you would have to say to Simon. Your throat was dry, and your tongue burned at each syllable.
His heart dropped the instant your words registered in his head, his expression darkening even more than before as a harsh scoff escaped him, his hands clenching tightly into fists as he tried to ignore the sharp pain in his chest.
"What…" His jaw hardened, and a look of disbelief crossed his features, "Who the hell told you that?"
"Johnny already told me," You replied, twisting on the stool to look at him, still in your work blouse and office pants.
"Of course he did.." He muttered beneath his breath, shaking his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose in irritation. "Bloody Soap.."
Simon took a deep breath and turned to look at you, his expression cold and hard, his gaze dark and icy. The mention of his engagement only made his fingers clench on the counter, and his gaze darkened as he heard your cold, dry tone. His eyes shifted towards the band next to the coffee maker, his mouth twisting into a frown at the lone ring he bought you all those years ago.
That ring had been on your finger for 7 years.
Now it lay lifeless on the counter.
How the tables have turned.
"...thanks." He muttered out quietly, before looking back down at the floor.
"yeah well, I would have found out even if Johnny didn't tell me. I would have seen the ring on you either way." You crossed your arms loosely with a small frown. You also won't mention you saw his fiancée's post about it.
He has an unreadable expression on his face as his shoulders straightened. "It would've been a hell of a lot more polite if I was the one who told you." He muttered lowly, his jaw clenching as he tried to keep his emotions in check. But the sight of you without the ring on your finger was eating away at him, like acid seeping into his skin. The mother of his child, divorced.
"You wouldn't tell me, I think that's why Johnny mentioned it...Fawn don't forget your toothbrush!" You called out, hearing her near the kitchen before bolting back down the hallway into the bathroom. You silently thank the universe for that interference.
A humorless scoff escaped him, shaking his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Johnny knew you, he knew that you were the type to get pissed off at secrets and such. So he told you, thinking it would be easier to swallow for you. 'It's not.; Simon muttered in his head, gritting his teeth tightly as he tried to hold back his emotions.
"for the best, right?" You mumbled under your breath, looking up at him.
He could feel the pain and hurt in your gaze as you looked up at him, making his heart clench painfully the longer he looked at you.
Of course it's not for the best.
He wanted more than anything to pull you into his arms, to kiss you, tell you how he regrets ever saying something so stupid, how he wanted to take everything back.
But he didn't.
He couldn't. So all he said was a cold: "You tell me."
You didn't reply, just humming quietly in acknowledgment before Fawn's happy self came into the kitchen practically bouncing with excitement to spend time with her dad. Simon watched quietly as Fawn barreled into the room with her bag in one hand, her excitement radiating.
He tried not to let his emotions show on his face, masking it with a neutral expression as he looked over at his daughter. It was impossible to tell her parents were going through a divorce. She was still young of course, so it wasn't that surprising.
Simon just couldn't help but envy her innocence.
A bitter thought in his head made him hate himself even more.
He couldn't help but try to hold that small smile that formed at his eyes as he saw her excitement, "You 'ave everythin' you need?" The question was mainly directed at you, since you were the one that knew what she needed.
You beckoned Fawn over, kneeling before her. You softly grabbed her shoulders with an assuring smile.
"Hairbrush? Socks and shoes? Jacket? And toothbrush?"
He hovered in the kitchen, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed over his chest as he watched you check over Fawn, watching how gentle you were with her. Simon scoffed at this, shaking his head. "She's a mini version of you."
A pang of longing hit him, watching how you cared for her, his heart feeling heavy.
"Check, got all that," Fawn confirmed, nodding her head excitedly as her bright eyes lit up.
"Good, you did a good job packing all by yourself." You forced a smile Fawn would believe, smoothing her hair back. You were proud of her after all, doing big girl things all by herself.
A wave of dread washed over him, he couldn't fucking stand this; that he was the reason. "Monster." something meanly cackled in the back of his head. He felt like a bastard for even having you sign those papers without fighting for it, watching everything he once had slip out of his fingers.
Watching how you forced a smile instead of truly showing it to your own fucking daughter.
God, he was a jackass.
"Remember your manners, be good, and you can call me for anything at all, okay? Anything you need, hun." You murmured, giving her little cheek a kiss.
He watched the two of you interact, his chest feeling heavy and tight. Fawn nodded her head quickly with a bright smile, giving you a big hug before waving a little.
"Bye, momma." She said cutely before rushing over to her father and grabbing his hand, waving her free one out.
His expression hardened, his gaze snapping on you as you looked away, keeping up the happy mom façade for the sake of Fawn.
He hated seeing you like this, forced to pretend like everything was okay when it was far from that. How was it fair for you to be forced to pretend to be happy? It didn't sit right with him, it just didn't feel fair. He held his eyes on you a moment longer before looking down to hold Fawn's hand in his.
"C'mon now, let's get goin'." He murmured gruffly, trying to muster a small smile for his daughter.
The walk to the car was silent, Fawn skipping her way to the car, Simon walking beside with her little handheld in his, his expression unreadable and cold. He stopped by the backseat of the car, opening the door to let Fawn in as he looked to the passenger seat. Where you would sit. Where you will probably never sit again.
His mind warred with it, a scowl crossing his face. He wanted you in the passenger seat, just like you used to always sit in. He wanted the same routine every time he picked up Fawn from school.
But he couldn't have that.
Simon gritted his teeth, shoving those thoughts aside as he forced his expression back to a stoic one, watching as Fawn climbed into the backseat and buckled herself in. He slowly shut the door with a quiet click, looking to the front and climbed into the driver's seat. The car started, and Fawn waved happily behind the window as they drove off. Mentally, you cuss Simon out to drive safely for Fawn before turning back inside.

Monster Spotlight: Cuero
Tumblr media
CR 5
Neutral Large Aberration
Bestiary 5, pg. 62
Another simple one today, in many senses of the word. Every now and then, DMs can have some trouble finding opportunities to utilize monsters that are dangerous enough to be a sidequest but also hitting the sweet spot between being more interesting than humanoid enemies or common fodder enemies BUT less dangerous than low-CR Outsiders or Undead, and the Cuero here slides very easily into that niche. These flapping, floppy and silly-looking creatures a menace to farmers, horse breeders, shepherds, and anyone else who may make a business of owning large, warm-blooded mammals, and are too complicated and dangerous for most town guards to deal with on their own, necessitating a merry band of mercenaries or adventurers to aid in their extermination or relocation.
Unlike Golarion's many, many, many, many, many other large carnivores, the Cuero do NOT have a senseless addiction to the flesh of humankind, but rather their preferred victims are any large, slow-moving ungulates that may trod over to drink from the warm lakes and rivers they inhabit. They lurk just under the surface, their randomly-patterned hide granting them a +21 to Stealth if the water is muddy or stony (and +11 otherwise) with only their secondary eyestalks poking above, looking to all the world like a pair of bubbles loosed from some underwater pocket of air, growing closer and closer to their potential victims before striking with shocking speed and dragging their victims underwater to drown if their vicious biting doesn't kill them first.
If this sounds suspiciously like a crocodile hunts to you, that's because they hunt exactly like crocodiles and alligators, and in fact compete for the same ecological niche in almost the exact same environments. If the gators cannot outnumber them, the Cuero can easily muscle out their competitors and take over, arguably becoming even more of a menace due to their intelligence. Cuero are sapient (though not especially bright) at 6 Int, and their brainpower is primarily devoted to two things: getting food, and tracking the phases of the moon, the latter of which we'll get to closer to the end of the article. The intelligence of Cuero allows them to pass on knowledge to their young in their gurgling and rasping dialect of Aklo, with the most important one being what to do with their leftovers.
Cuero are not primarily meat-eaters, though they'll consume smaller, slower sea creatures between their 'main' meals (which can lead to local fish populations dropping low, yet another reason adventurers may be called in). They survive by being blood-drinkers, latching onto victims trapped inside the folds of their tough, leathery hides and sawing enormous holes in the victims' skin to drain them dry. Once the Cuero is full, it drags the victim down to share its bounty with its family, with the exsanguinated remains then dragged back up and disposed onto the shoreline, or loosed to float downriver, either case hiding the true location of the Cuero's nest.
What this looks like mechanically is a leathery slam attack dealing 1d6+9 damage. If this attack connects it Grabs onto the victim, allowing the Cuero to not only begin drinking its Con score by 1d2 per round, but Constricting them for an additional 1d6+9 damage each round. 2d6+18 damage can swiftly crush most prey items Cuero typically hunt in just a round or two, if not instantly, making the blood drain almost inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. A player character may be able to last a little longer, but remember that the Cuero is an aquatic predator, meaning it's likely going to be dragging your sorry ass into the lake with it with its 40ft swim speed (20ft if it's grappling), a fate that most players are going to have a lot of difficulty recovering from. Underwater combat is certain doom for many common character builds as their attack rolls and damage are harshly impacted and their movement options crater out to "pray you roll well on Swim," and it only gets worse as the giant manta continues to squeeze them like a child struggling to get the last few drops of Capri Sun from the pouch.
Cuero aren't especially impressive on the defense, especially if their pathetic Reflex (+4) is targeted, though their 19 AC is slightly ahead of the curve for a CR 5 creature, and it's further raised by the fact they're almost always going to be battling underwater, granting them additional AC and concealment. Many spells simply cannot enter water or are useless in it, and ranged attacks suffer swiftly mounting penalties the further down they try and pierce the depths, and Cuero can freely kick up a Muddy Cloud to fully conceal itself and all other creatures within 30ft, which can both complicate any rescue efforts being mounted and allow the creature to swiftly flee any encounter it wants no part of (which is most of them unless it's starving). The mud mantas are perfectly able to navigate their kicked-up clouds as they have 30ft of blindsense, which nicely overlaps the area of concealment they create, easily letting them either continue attacking their victims or escape in a direction that's almost impossible to track.
Thankfully, despite the potential nightmares they can give to players, Cuero possess several easily-exploitable weaknesses: Namely, the fact they're intelligent means a great many spell options and mundane Intimidation will work on them. If the party's objective isn't killing them, they can be forced to flee simply by proving you're not easy prey. They're also saddled with a 5ft reach despite their 10ft space, meaning they can only ever attack creatures directly next to them; a clever party setting up an ambush can wait for the thing to leap upon a delicious bit of bait before dragging it onto the land, where its speed drops to 10ft and the defenses conferred by underwater combat no longer apply.
More uniquely, Cuero can speak. As previously mentioned, they have their own dialect of Aklo that any creature capable of speaking the language can potentially imitate, potentially allowing a diplomatic solution be found (provided the objective is passing by instead of destroying the creatures). The book notes that even creatures capable of conversing with them tend to become frustrated or confused, as Cuero are prone to rambling at length about food and past meals, water conditions and, uniquely, the phases of the moon, a topic they're especially prone to waxing on about if given the opportunity. When viewed from above, Cuero can resemble Golarion's full moon, something the creatures themselves have noticed and created a ritual around; during a full moon on an equinox or solstice, the mud mantas are especially active, congregating in numbers they normally tend to avoid and bringing in bounties taken from the shores of numerous streams, rivers, and lakes to curl into titanic breeding balls which themselves often come to resemble the moon. According to their alien beliefs, the strongest and healthiest of their kind are all conceived on such nights, but whether this is true or merely a belief passed through their generations is unknown.
It certainly gives a bit more flavor to these wonderfully weird creatures beyond a simple quest objective!
You can read more about them here.

tags: written for @ravengards-rogue / gn!reader/ abigail and john are coparenting jack and are not together / drinking and smoking / set in ch.4 after jack’s return. let me know if i missed something
Tumblr media
Jack has returned and the gang is in full swing. The fire is golden than red, and the singing is drowned by the natural sounds of the buoy. You rest on the outskirts of the house letting the taste of your cigarette rest on your teeth as you cough with each exhale.
“Not the best smoker, are you?” John’s voice rings out, cutting through the croaking of frogs. It makes you turn, eyes watering and you wincing when the smoke goes down the wrong pipe. John laughs, a raspy thing but it makes your burn all the same. You suck your teeth and curse under your breath before turning away from him.
“Not one of my talents, I am afraid.” You call back, not looking at him lest he lulls you into his spell unknowingly with his scarred features. The damp ground gives away his movements and he is right next to you, his arm to your shoulder and his head looking down at you. You feel the two pin points of his eyes focused on your face in the cool moonlight.
“What are you doing out here?” John asks you with his voice soft, low and deep - the one he uses when it’s just you and him. The one that lulls you and makes your heart race despite you never wanting to admit it, especially yourself.
“I could ask you the same thing - you should be with your son and Abigail. Not here with me.” You can’t keep the bitterness out of your voice even if you wanted to. Some part of you feels embarrassed, it’s not like you to be so unveiled. Especially when it comes to John, who looks at you with some sort of wildness that cannot be contained in the walls of civil society and fatherhood. John’s hand, bigger and scarred, comes into your view, you let it pluck the cigarette from your hand with the grace he only has to reload his pistols ; you watch as he takes a long drag and blows it away from your face.
“Look at me.” He says and you obey with unusual, limp submissiveness and you don’t raise your eyes to see the small smug smirk on John’s face at your pout.
“I should be…but every time I’m with them I think of you anyways.”
“Shut up - that ain’t funny.” You hiss at him, pout pulling back to show your teeth as you go to take your cigarette back. John is quick and has always been more agile than you - it’s how he gets his arm to wind around your shoulders and can tug you back to the direction of the golden light. His hand is warm, burning through the surprisingly cold air this night and you turn golden in the camp’s firelight. Some people call your name as you pass by them cheering, drunk and stupid.
“The boy is my son, you know that but Abigail ain’t my woman. Me and her ain’t gonna beat a dead horse especially when I got you. So don’t go running off like that again, you stay with me the rest of the night, you hear?” He tells you his voice pressed to your ears and you feel your indignation fade away with each step you take with him. A part of you hates how easily John can disarm your defenses but he would not be as feared as he is if he could not do so. It makes you nod almost obediently and it makes him chuckle in your ear - even bold enough to press a kiss to your cheek that makes a few members at camp hoot and holler over Javier’s singing. He sits you down next to him, you can hear Jack playing and you even smile as he waves at you excitedly. It brings a smile to your face as you wave back until Abigail comes into your view and graces you with a smile and a wave of her own - one that reassures you entirely. You feel a nudge at your shoulder and turn to see John looking at you softly.
“There's that pretty smile I missed.” You laugh, loudly like the rest of them and roll your eyes.
“Oh shut it Marston.” The fondness coats your tongue like syrup and the embers dance in John’s eyes, it’s easy to see them as stars instead.
“Only if you make me, my darling.”

i am haunted by your sean's accurate recovery post how do you think it would have impacted how the gang treated him like how would they react to fun lovable sean macguire actually being so injured and weak to the point he couldn't keep that face up and needed help
ok so at first, when we have charles, javier and arthur, shock and denial. they would comment on his condition as they stared through the binoculars but not fully process yet what this means. when they cut him down and hes just laying there, it starts to dawn on them. something fucking awful has happened here. arthur would drag him up, only for him to crumble like dead weight with a few groans, then face the inevitable that that boy is not okay and they have a huge problem. cue them emptying their satchels for food and water asap. also theres the lingering, unspoken thought in their heads that he absolutely stinks but it would be super inappropriate to point it out.
back at camp, theyre so excited for seans return party. that he doesnt get. because when they see him, weak and slumped on the back of arthurs horse, bruised and bloody and stained, they begin to wonder…why did they expect something else? why did they expect a bouncy, happy, healthy and ready-to-party sean to return after weeks of torture? in what universe (the canon one lol) would that happen and make sense? theres no hugs and reunion. theres the yell of “i need some help over here.”
so seans in recovery, after finally being bathed (by who up to u), and hes not happy. theres no smiles. theres only pained groans and noises and people being ushered away from him, and the party is kind of a pity party. arthurs thinking about the fact he debated leaving him there, even journalling it, because he feels so guilty. lenny is wondering why the universe took jenny away from him and if theyre taking sean away from him too. karen feels lost, like she doesnt know how to help. everytime they hear miss grimshaw going to check on him, see lenny and hosea trying to help him walk on his burnt feet, see mr pearson cooking him separate meals so he can maybe attempt to eat as best he could, hear his panicked yelling as he wakes up from another nightmare, they are reminded about how low on their priority list he was during and after colter.
it feels like hes a different person, and they dont know if they’ll get old sean back. i mean, he needs help to walk, hes bruised all over from literally being beat and stamped on and needs help to sit up, he cannot eat what they eat, they hear him crying to lenny, and the majority of them do feel guilty.
however, there is one good night where he sits up and drinks with bill around the fire, who is so happy to see him up and able to drink with him that he isn’t snarky or rude. hes questioning and sympathetic..in his own way of course.
so yeah hope that little ramble does it for you!

The problem with being perceptive and being an empath and having gotten an education in psychology is that now I know things about people that I cannot tell them because they can't hear it right now, and will maybe never be able to.
I COULD go up to that person in a toxic relationship and just be like, "Look. This person is a covert narcissist. This is what they're doing to you. This is what you need to get out. This is what your life could look like without them if you just put a really determined effort in for a couple of years." And I COULD do that. And I WANT to do that, because it BUGS ME that they're in such a bad place and don't have to be.
But if you tell somebody that and they can't hear it, all that's going to happen is that you're going to alienate them from you. They're going to see what you're doing as attacking their partner and they're going to defend their partner and cling even more closely to their partner and get rid of YOU instead.
There are 3 ways to deal with this:
Keep hinting and hinting and hoping they eventually begin to hear you (it does happen sometimes! It's how my friend made me realize my mom was emotionally abusive!)
2. Go ahead and tell them now and blow up your relationship with them
3. Realize that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink, and take the pressure off of yourself to fix the universal problem of equine thirst. That is not your job in life. There will always be thirsty horses who are scared of the river. Other people's choices are not your responsibility, even if you DO know things they can't see yet. What you CAN do is focus on the only person whose choices you CAN control: You. Make choices that are right for YOU, and then secondarily help people when and if you can.
I've been trying to do option 1 for years now, and I've finally hit a place where I've realized that I need to switch to option 3. Cassandra has pointed out where the river is, and if the horse is ignoring it, Cassandra is going to go do something else. Because there's no point in telling people the truth if they'll never believe you anyway. Cassandra has given up on being an oracle. Cassandra is pursuing a career as a baker and taking up knitting and hiking. Cassandra has more goals in her life than the happiness of other people.

Worldbuilding: Cultivating Green
Aquarium snails like lettuce. They really, really like lettuce. Especially Romaine. Apparently it tends to have more calcium than other lettuces, which not only helps snails build good shells but is one reason it’s a preferred green to feed rehabilitating manatees. The fact that it floats, making it easy to grab leaves off the surface, doesn’t hurt a bit.
Greens are good for you. They are also, in some circumstances, absolutely deadly. A few things you might consider before you feed your characters a salad include plant breeding, agricultural tech, and water handling.
First, how advanced is your plant breeding? How cultivated are your varieties? Have they been bred to reduce toxicity?
Yes, toxicity. Plants evolved to be resistant to being eaten, just like animals. Only since they can’t run away, they rely on other strategies. Most plants that we can technically eat, for example grass, aren’t very nutritious. Grazing herbivores definitely chew grass, but they get most of their nutrients from digesting the microbes in their guts that can actually break down the cellulose. Like termites. Grazing herbivores also tend to browse on the tender tips of bushes and trees when they can, for more protein.
Though this has its drawbacks. Plants that are nutritious tend to be very, very toxic. Clover? Very nutritious, good grazing for animals and the occasional human - but humans at least have to eat it fresh, and it has compounds known to be abortifacient in large quantities. Milkweed? You eat very specific parts, and change out some water, to avoid the toxins that make birds seriously sick if they target a Monarch butterfly. Apple leaves and branches? Go ahead and cut fresh bits for your horse or rabbit, but take the bits away before they can wilt because cyanide. Potatoes and tomatoes? Nightshades, they can really mess you up. Only the fruit of the tomato is edible; and if you find a wild potato, or even just an unknown cross - I’m begging you, do not eat the tubers unless someone’s able to test them in a lab first. Farmers in the Andes worked for thousands of years to get our table varieties, and every seed from a cross is still a roll of the dice. Not to mention some actively if slightly-less-toxic potatoes are still grown because they’re tough enough to survive very bad conditions.
(You eat them after they’ve been freeze-dried, and you eat them with clay. Do not skip the clay. It absorbs the toxins.)
There are a very few plants that are both nutritious and nontoxic, but they’re rare. Wild cabbage, ancestor to our modern brassicas like broccoli, radish, cabbages, etc., naturally grows on limestone cliffs with basic soils high in salt and lime, where very few other things like the environment. Though extreme environments cannot be counted on to produce edible plants. Look at some of the nasty compounds that are in cactus pulp. Preferably before you try to drink it.
Second, how advanced is the local agricultural tech? What are they using for fertilizer? Organic fertilizer is often either marl (not found everywhere) or manure. Hopefully well-aged manure; hopefully not human manure. But any kind carries the risk of disease and parasites. There are ways to cut those risks; do the farmers know how?
Third, how advanced is the tech for obtaining clean water, and purifying water that might not be clean? Even the best, cleanest field might get targeted by passing birds; washing your greens before you eat them is good sense. Unless the water’s not reliable. In which case all your veggies might be stir-fry, not salad.
It’s possible all of this is just unimportant background in your story. But if your characters are in a foraging or other survival situation... these are bits to consider. They may be safest just hunting!

Psalm 51:1-2 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Psalm 139:14 The psalmist wrote, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
1 John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
Romans 6:3-4 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
1 Chronicles 29:11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all.
May you keep the ways of the Lord and not turn away from His laws or decrees that God may reward you according to the righteousness of Christ which He sees in you. 2 Samuel 22
May the Lord be your lamp and turn your darkness into light, for the way of God is perfect, the word of the Lord is flawless, and He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. 2 Samuel 22
May you receive God's shield of victory as He stoops down to make you great and broaden the path beneath you so that your ankles do not turn, for it is God who arms you with strength and makes your way perfect, enabling you to stand on the heights and training your hands for battle. 2 Samuel 22
When God directs you against a spiritual power which exalts itself against the authority of God and the beloved of the Lord, may you pursue them and crush them, not turning back till they are destroyed completely and they cannot rise, but fall beneath your feet, beating them fine as dust, then pounding and trampling them like mud in the streets. 2 Samuel 22
May you rule by God's Spirit over your own heart, and reign in Christ's name over your own spirit, always walking in the fear of God, for then you will be like the light of the morning at sunrise on a cloudless day, and like the brightness after rain that brings life springing up for others and shows the beauty and glory of the Lord, to His praise. 2 Samuel 23
May you be as ready to please the Lord, and willing to obey your King's least command, as the mighty men of David's army when they broke through the enemy's lines, fending off the attacks as they drew water and brought it back to their lord and king when he mentioned the delight a drink from the well at Bethlehem would bring him. 2 Samuel 23
Do you rejoice in tales of great valor, My child, and enjoy stories of mighty deeds? Do you imagine yourself accomplishing great acts of courage and winning the acclaim of your captain and troops?    You have read of King David's mighty men, and how the greatest of them killed 800 of the enemy in one battle as he was strengthened and protected by Me. Do you recall that Peter stood up on the Day of Pentecost and spoke My word boldly before the many scoffers and questioners, and, by the anointing of My Spirit on the hearts of the hearers, 3,000 were liberated from the enemy to believe and be saved?    My promise to My warriors is that one shall put to flight 1,000 and two shall cause 10,000 to flee. Remember that the enemy comes in as a flood, and the battle can be prolonged and exhausting, but the end is already settled.    My reminder to My warriors is to trust not in the speed of horses nor in the strength of men nor in the size of armies. Instead, continually fear Me in My awesome majesty, and perpetually hope in My unending loving-kindness, for I am your ever-present help and your strong shield and mighty buckler; My eye is always on those who persistently wait on Me.    My word to My warriors is, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” for I have sold the wicked and given up the spiritual principalities to their own lusts and evil desires since their destiny is destruction and their goal is death.    Therefore, rejoice in Me greatly, My brave one, and exult in Me, for I have clothed you in garments of salvation and wrapped you in a robe of righteousness, as a bride is adorned with her jewels; for though you were formerly darkness, now you are light in Me.    Walk as a child of the Light, not participating in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead, expose them with My light that shines from you and with My wisdom that dwells within you, that you may do My mighty deeds without keeping the honor to yourself, but make much of Me before men, for My glory shall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
May you find that petty differences and opposing opinions disappear in the light of His presence like moths consumed in a flame when brethren come together in prayer in one place and one accord, for He will shake each “house” that will receive His Spirit. Acts 2
May you see the Lord always before you and ever beside you, causing your heart to be glad and your tongue to rejoice as your body lives in hope, for you will not be shaken while He makes known to you the paths of life and fills you with joy in His presence. Acts 2
May you be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak the truth of Christ from the heart of the Father as the Spirit enables you. Acts 2
May others around you feel perplexed and be amazed at what they see and hear in your company and ask, “What does this mean?” Acts 2
May you rejoice with those who go to the house of the Lord. Psalm 122
May you pray for the peace of the city of God for those who love it will be secure, finding peace within its walls and security within its citadels. Psalm 122
May you find that to live with an humble spirit and humble eyes with lowly people in the presence and blessing of God is better than to share what is stolen among the proud of self and mighty of earth, whom God resists and casts down. Proverbs 16:19
May you give heed to instruction from God for you will prosper and may you trust in the Lord for you will be blessed. Proverbs 16:20

2023 Game Of The Year: Storyteller (plus DLC)
I played Storyteller after the DLC came out, and Storyteller (with the DLC) became my game of the year.
Unfortunately, I can't really explain why without spoiling some puzzles. I will not try not to spoil any solutions in the screenshots (except one), but I will have to spoil the game mechanics.
What is Storyteller
Storyteller is a game where you arrange comic book panels and characters to tell a story based on a prompt. It doesn't require any dexterity, only deduction. You drag and drop comic book panels into slots, drag and drop character into panels to arrange them, or drag populated panels and characters around.
The challenge is to understand how the characters and panels work, what the prompt wants you to do, and how to do that. Early on, the game is mostly about figuring out the rules governing the characters and panels. It slowly shifts towards more "thinky" problems, where the challenge lies not in understanding how the game works, or what the goal is, but how to fit the required story beats into a limited number of panels.
Depending on the outcome of a panel, you may see little icons, speech bubbles, or thought bubbles that describe whether an action failed or succeeded, and how the characters think or feel about that. Sometimes the outcome of a panel is communicated in a much more direct way, and acted out by the characters.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from second chapter puzzle "A Heartbreak is Healed"
Tumblr media
Screenshot from first chapter puzzle "Heartbreak with a Happy Ending": At this point you are still learning the game mechanics like placing panels and characters
Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Everyone Rejects Edgar": More thinky puzzle than recreation of a storytelling cliché, and an opportunity to apply what you know. The characters except for Edgar are interchangeable. You can have them fall in love with any other, or reject Edgar in any order.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from later puzzle "Everyone Sits on the Throne": A thinky puzzle in the same vein as "Everyone Rejects Edgar". This time, there are important differences between the initial states of characters. You cannot make them sit on the throne in any order.
The panels can be thought of as story beats, sometimes as scenes/places, as in "A and B meet in the kitchen", and sometimes as actions/verbs, as in "A and B kiss". They aren't verbs in the sense that you can just put Alice and Bob in the kissing panel and they always kiss. They only kiss if they love each other, or at least if they don't hate each other. All you can do with the characters as the player is to put them in situations. You can drag the "horse" character into the "watering hole" panel, but you can't make it drink. I mean, probably you could, you might, but would be the puzzle.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Hatey Murders Father and Marries Mother": It's obviously an Oedipus reference. You see that Hatey doesn't want to murder his father or marry his mother in this constellation.
The game keeps track of the relationships between characters, beliefs of characters, and states of objects. That means (I made this example up in order to not spoil any puzzles) if Alice has been in the kitchen with the cookies, Alice believes there are cookies in the kitchen. If the Cookie Monster has been in the kitchen, there are no more cookies in the kitchen. Now Alice could tell Bob that there are cookies in the kitchen, and Bob could ge hungry and blame Alice for lying, or he could catch the Cookie Monster eating the last cookie. The possibilities for drama are there.
Characters have different initial states and motivations. For instance, the King and the Queen are initially married, and they both have the crown.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Three Heads Roll": Only the Baron wants to kidnap the king.
If you're into that kind of thing, you can imagine Storyteller as a STRIPS-like planning system with a known or at least discoverable initial state, multiple goals (not just one goal state), panels as actions that take characters as parameters, and a lot of state that can be observed and deduced, but not directly manipulated.
If you're not, you can just play Storyteller as a game about telling stories based on a prompt.
Progression
After you start a new save file, the whole game is open to you. Puzzles or stories are grouped into chapters of four of five stories. Each chapter has a common theme, and a set of common characters and panels. Later chapters mix it up a bit, and introduce characters into different environments or combine characters from multiple stories or mythologies, whereas earlier chapters mostly introduce panels and characters so you can learn how they operate.
Like I said, the whole game is open to you from the start, so you are free to skip a puzzle if you are stuck, to revisit an older chapter, or to skip to the last chapter. It doesn't really matter, because you have to solve every puzzle in the game in order to get to the end.
The first chapter teaches the mechanics of dragging and dropping panels, dragging and dropping characters into panels, and dragging populated panels around to swap them. Then the next couple of chapters introduce different characters and settings. Usually the first story of a chapter only has a few new characters and panels with a rather obvious prompt, the second introduces more content and a slight variation, and the third and fourth have a slight twist.
The later chapters are more focused on actual puzzles.
Some puzzles have multiple solutions, and after solving it one way, you see two additional prompts. For example, the princess could kiss the frog and then the frog turns into a prince, or the princess could kiss the frog but the frog turns into another princess.
I skipped many of those variations on my first playthrough, and this way I blazed through about 40 puzzles without ever stopping and thinking or feeling overly challenged. I learned how most of the characters and panels work, and then I went back to solve all the variant prompts. Somebody I know played every level in order and solved the variant prompts right away. That makes for a more thinky experience earlier on. Either way works, and both are clearly intentionally permitted by the game design.
In the final chapters, Storyteller actually becomes thinky and difficult. This seems like a flaw in pacing, but it works out to the first 70% of the puzzles taking 30% of the time playing it, and the last 30% taking 70% of the time. Instead of treating Storyteller like a storytelling game, you must finally treat it like a puzzle game.
When you beat the base game, the DLC content is added. Levels in the previous chapters get an additional variant prompt, and a new character is introduced. This character acts completely different from all the previous characters, so you have to at first understand how it interacts with the panels from the base game. The variant prompts are harder than anything in the base game. For puzzle game aficionados, this is where it gets challenging for the first time. Here's a "metagaming" tip: None of the DLC variant prompts is solvable with the characters from the base game. Therefore your solution must incorporate the DLC, and it would be impossible to reproduce with base game content.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Eve Dies Heartbroken Devil makes everyone miserable": You have to experiemnt to figure out how the devil interacts with the panels and characters.
Why It Works So Well
Storyteller is a bit on the easy side. So why does it work so well?
If you are an expert at puzzle games such as The Golem or Stephen's Sausage Roll, then maybe it won't work for you. But if you are looking for a puzzle game that is different, if you liked Splice or Cogs, then Storyteller could be the game for you. It's not a puzzle platformer, not a first person puzzle adventure like Obduction or Sensorium or Quern.
Storyteller is not a storytelling game in the vein of Facade, but it uses themes and literary allusion to keep you interested early on. The music sometimes feels more like a fun Easter egg, but never annoying.
Early prompts in the vein of "boy meets girl" soon turn into more complicated prompts, requiring some minimal lateral thinking to figure out what you need to do. Some of the prompts are literary or mythological allusions and references. That keeps levels interesting and varied even when the actual puzzle part is simple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Butler Gets Fired" and "Friedrich Takes Revenge": The puzzle part is quite easy, and there is little lateral thinking involved. The fun is mostly in re-enacting pop culture tropes.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from the level selection: Every puzzle in every chapter is open from the start, but it's probably best to do them in order.
Many bad puzzle games get this wrong. You can never really solve a puzzle, because there is only one thing to do. You pick up a key, you open a lock, you see a button, you press it to open a door, you just do the next thing you can do over and over. Instead of puzzling, you just push every button and see what changes to know where to go next. It's fine if the puzzle mechanics are just an excuse to get the player to traverse a temple/dungeon back and forth, if you see the lock and the key and the puzzle mechanics are just there for flavour and motivation. It's no okay if your game is not an action adventure or a puzzle platformer, but an actual puzzle game.
Monument Valley is such a game that doesn't have any actual puzzles in it, you just walk from one place to the next. The game is carried by the interesting visuals and the novelty of the perspective mechanic. (If you are looking for something like Monument Valley but challenging, I could perhaps recommend Naya's Quest or Selene's Labyrinth.)
Early on, Storyteller has this flow of simple and easy puzzles (like Monument Valley), one solved after the other, and it gradually gets more difficult. The references to books and storytelling clichés aren't particularly deep or laugh-out-loud funny, but they make for the occasional chuckle. Sometimes part of the solution process is to realise that "boy meets girl" was last time, and this time you have to use "girl meets girl" to make the story fit the prompt with the characters you have at your disposal.
Tumblr media
The variant prompts manage to side-step a problem I that stood out to me on my playthrough of Baba is You, and a problem I encountered designing my own puzzles. Sometimes there are two levels in a row, where one level has an "unintended" solution, and the next has the "intended" solution removed, so you have to find the second solution for the first level. If you manage to find the "unintended" solution the first time, the next level will be very confusing. Just this solution again? Wait, what was the other solution? Did the last level try to teach me something I missed? Should I go back again to find the other solution?
It was confusing to me anyway, a couple of times when I played Baba is You. The same idea is implemented in Storyteller in a much better way. Instead of having a modified copy of the same level right afterwards, Storyteller categorises solutions into "basic solution", "variant A" and "variant B". Even if you manage to find one variant with your first solution attempt, you immediately see both variant prompts, and there is always one more variant to try next. You never have to construct the same solution twice in a row. Sadly this elegant system cannot be applied to Baba is You.
Tumblr media
Screenshot from "Tiny gets a kiss": Sorry for spoiling the solution. Even if you manage to have the prince save Tiny the first time around, you would still have to find a solution where Snowy is ungrateful, and Tiny gets a kiss.
Pre-History
I can't really talk about Storyteller without explaining why I was drawn to this game in the first place. I first heard about it in 2008, when it won the IGF. Back then it was more of a story sandbox in the vein of "Tale-Spin". That's the old story generation AI that produced the sentence "gravity drowned", if that means anything to you.
Tumblr media
Screenshot: Storyteller prototype with old pixel art
About a hundred flash portals mirrored the initial Storyteller Flash prototype that won the IGF. The original is still here on Kongregate.
Back then, I wondered how a sand box such as storyteller could be turned into an actual game. It was a prototype and some mechanics, but not really a game. It looks like the developer wondered, too.
Tumblr media
In the mean time, FRAMED had came out. Now FRAMED looks clearly inspired by Storyteller, because it also has a mechanic where you rearrange panels, but it's nothing like it. FRAMED is more like the Limbo to Storyteller's Braid. Ironically, FRAMED is "a game that tells you a story". Storyteller is an actual puzzle game.
It has been in development longer than Duke Nukem Forever, but even after all these years, Storyteller doesn't feel dated or superfluous. They finally found a winning formula.
Storyteller was developed by Daniel Benmergui and published by Annapurna Interactive. Get it on Steam here, or if you have a Netflix subscription and an iOS or Android device, the price of the mobile app is included in your monthly Netflix fee. Storyteller is also available for the Nintendo Switch. I would recommend playing it on a PC or tablet.

Hey there I just have a question about the Patreon stuff - I 100% agree with everything you said, I'm not too knowledgeable about some of the things Patreon has done. I know they want to get rid of first of the month and per creation billing, but WHY? Why do they hate it so much and want to get rid of it so badly??
hmmmm. i can't say i know for sure, but i can make some guesses. a lot of it seems like an unwillingness to problem-solve, honestly. there have been various excuses that i can remember-- one is that processing everything at the beginning of the month leads to all the Payment Processing Problems happening at once which, fair, understandable. hire more people, sorry patreon, you already made your bed on this and now you get to lie in it for the sake of the people that depend on it. another excuse they made during the fiasco in 2021 is that a lot of people sign up in the middle or toward the end of the month and think they've been "double charged" when the 1st of the next month rolls around, and they get charged again less than a month after they signed up. it apparently leads to a lot of customer service tickets. instead of implementing ANY features that would help patrons understand this better at signup, or allow patrons to delay payment until the 1st of the next month, they wanted to do away with 1st-of-the-month billing entirely. and like yes. this is a problem. chargebacks are bad. having to deal with a lot of help tickets at the same time every month is bad. but having worked customer service long enough: clarify your language and again, hire more people, sorry! bed made! lie in it!
with the apple thing... i kind of wonder if that's been an influence in the past and for how long. it feels like they are really insistent on changing their service's behavior to be more predictable to the average Netflix/Doordash/etc. subscriber or whatever. the rolling bill structure is the default for most stuff, and it does make sense to want to be predictable... but in general they really seem to think very little of the intelligence of patrons. which is an understandable consequence of dealing with any kind of customer service-- just statistically speaking you will encounter a lot of horses who cannot be made to drink or even led to any kind of water and it will make you think humanity is doomed. but it's weird that they're willing to trade out entire portions of their userbase for that predictability. i think some of this is also a venture-capital-driven desperate desire for wider appeal, which is the fall of every tech company at some point, i guess. the insistence that the apps no one likes are Extremely Important is what bolsters my belief that this is a misguided growth-chasing thing. like everyone else, they probably are trying to make line go up, and there's no room to be pleased with a sustainable niche in that equation.
i don't know if there are other mysterious under-the-hood reasons, like if it's gonna be better for them re: payment processing fees or something or if their processors or investors are giving them shit about it for some reason or another. it's likely there's something else they are, as usual, not being transparent about.
so yeah. it's not that i think Patreon would be easy to run. it's not that i don't see that there are some legit challenges here. but i do think they are strangely willing to give up and go straight to the most destructive solution rather than try to figure out how to make the thing work. i don't really know exactly what's going on more than anyone else does, i'm just looking for patterns.
also: i know you don't, anon, but if anyone's thinking i've been too harsh or that i'm too suspicious of patreon up-front here and am Probably Just Unpleasable... they do have a history of deceptive shit. it's been their thing for a looooong time to take secret polls only of select groups of users so they can say that their bad decisions are based on "user feedback". i actually got an email invite back in 2021 for a secret behind-the-scenes call that i'm sure they were just gonna use to try to justify some more shit. i declined and told them they should have learned by now to ask the whole community for input on big decisions, and i got a predictably dodgy answer. sigh. i wish they really cared about us.

The Assyrians Invade Judah
1 During Hezekiah’s fourteenth year as king, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the strong, walled cities of Judah and captured them. 2 The king of Assyria sent out his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem. When the commander came near the waterway from the upper pool on the road where people do their laundry, he stopped. 3 Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah went out to meet him. Eliakim son of Hilkiah was the palace manager, Shebna was the royal secretary, and Joah son of Asaph was the recorder.
4 The field commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah this:
“‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says: What can you trust in now? 5 You say you have battle plans and power for war, but your words mean nothing. Whom are you trusting for help so that you turn against me? 6 Look, you are depending on Egypt to help you, but Egypt is like a splintered walking stick. If you lean on it for help, it will stab your hand and hurt you. The king of Egypt will hurt all those who depend on him. 7 You might say, “We are depending on the Lord our God,” but Hezekiah destroyed the Lord’s altars and the places of worship. Hezekiah told Judah and Jerusalem, “You must worship only at this one altar.”
8 “‘Now make an agreement with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses if you can find enough men to ride them. 9 You cannot defeat one of my master’s least important officers, so why do you depend on Egypt to give you chariots and horsemen? 10 I have not come to attack and destroy this country without an order from the Lord. The Lord himself told me to come to this country and destroy it.’”
11 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the field commander, “Please speak to us in the Aramaic language. We understand it. Don’t speak to us in Hebrew, because the people on the city wall can hear you.”
12 But the commander said, “My master did not send me to tell these things only to you and your king. He sent me to speak also to those people sitting on the wall who will have to eat their own dung and drink their own urine like you.”
13 Then the commander stood and shouted loudly in the Hebrew language, “Listen to what the great king, the king of Assyria says, 14 The king says you should not let Hezekiah fool you, because he can’t save you. 15 Don’t let Hezekiah talk you into trusting the Lord by saying, ‘The Lord will surely save us. This city won’t be handed over to the king of Assyria.’
16 “Don’t listen to Hezekiah. The king of Assyria says, ‘Make peace with me, and come out of the city to me. Then everyone will be free to eat the fruit from his own grapevine and fig tree and to drink water from his own well. 17 After that I will come and take you to a land like your own—a land with grain and new wine, bread and vineyards.’
18 “Don’t let Hezekiah fool you, saying, ‘The Lord will save us.’ Has a god of any other nation saved his people from the power of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? They did not save Samaria from my power. 20 Not one of all the gods of these countries has saved his people from me. Neither can the Lord save Jerusalem from my power.”
21 The people were silent. They didn’t answer the commander at all, because King Hezekiah had ordered, “Don’t answer him.”
22 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah tore their clothes to show how upset they were. (Eliakim son of Hilkiah was the palace manager, Shebna was the royal secretary, and Joah son of Asaph was the recorder.) The three men went to Hezekiah and told him what the field commander had said. — Isaiah 36 | New Century Version (NCV) The Holy Bible, New Century Version®. Copyright © 2005 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Kyle: that's because gravity doesn't drag you into the abyss

Kyle: And what the fuck does that mean?
