The king's dead (long live the king) - Masterpost

It was a big project I wanted to challenge myself with, with crazy lore and worldbuilding, with a lot of exploration of eldritchness and angst. But I just got absorbed by DPxDC crossover, saw my niche in writing romance, got obsessed with Jason and Jazz and the rest is history.

I feel it's a crime none of this will probably see the light of day, so. Here. Chaotic mode it is. Fish my posts boy. I will post sporadically about this AU. You have been warned.

What is this fic about?

This was supposed to be my magnum opus. It's the "main" fic in my AO3 series You and me and our best friends make three. So far the series has side stories or one shots located in different moments of the story. The main fic was supposed to tell the full story on how it happened, how we ended up here.

Back in 2021, when I went down the rabbit hole with Danny Phantom, I envisioned a neat AU where Danny was this eldritch ghost king... with a twist.

I love eldritch Danny (those who know me can confirm) but I wanted to explore something I haven't seen a lot even in the angst torture-vivisection saturated market of this 20 year old fandom:

What if the Ghost King is not power, but a sacrifice?

What if it is not known that the Ghost King is actually the host of a powerful entity (I called it The Whisper, because it talks in your mind in whispers) who is always hungry. Always. Hungry. And if it doesn't have a host will eat all the Infinite Realms then the Living World.

The Ghost King makes a pact with the Whisper. The King can tap into the ectoplasm, the energy, of every creature, object, city, etc. in the Realms and convert that energy into food for the Whisper.

But nobody knows this. Is a secret shared from King to King, and you only find out after accepting the crown.

Why would you refuse? Is the King, it's an honor, is power, is greatness. Who would deny the Whisper its food?

Only one managed to sever the connection.

His name was Pariah Dark.

He went insane.

What is The Whisper?

Is a cosmic entity that was stranded on Earth a loooong time ago. It created the Infinite Realms with its flesh and blood (ectoplasm) and all ectoplasmic creatures come from it.

But its hungry.

Act II:

Never judge a book by its cover (dpxdc crossover)(my very first dpxdc work!) - Justice League summons the Ghost King to help deal with an eldritch creature. What they get may be a worse monster

Hidden identities? Never heard of them (dpxdc crossover) - direct sequel to the previous part. Batman and some of the colony go to Amity to investigate. They catch glimpses of horrors that they can't help but wonder

Remedy (+18!!!)(my very first DP fanfic!) - self indulgent Porn Without Plot in this universe. Placed in a distant future where everything is fine

"Who are you?" Great question!

Hi folks, my name is Cas, and I'm an amateur writer with a love for all things words.

I use He/they/she pronouns,, but neos are fun. I don't have chosen ones, I prefer to let other people use what they think is apt to depict me. :> but to keep it simple, he/they/she! Use whatever pronouns are in your heart for me!

I'm a slave to the whims of my whimsy. If what you're writing makes me feel things, whether they're dark and unsettling or soft and lighter than air, I'm there. A few of my interests are cryptozoology, psychology, horror, fantasy, music and dance, and just anything I can search for. My favorite game is pattern recognition and completion, which makes things like escape rooms and scavenger hunts, whether for treasure or lore (same thing) a huge treat for me. I love being able to search, so if you like hiding obscure lore, let me at it like a pack of hounds.

I write horror, fantasy, mystery, comedy. My current WIP is a slasher comedy with a side of childish whimsy served up on a silver platter with some slice of life and sex jokes for seasoning. Loosely similar energy to Gravity falls is basically everything I make. What can I say, it's what I like.

I'm 18+, work two jobs and have the retensive memory of a soggy goldfish cracker. My schedule is hectic. If you see me reblogging posts, but I've neglected to answer you or respond to something you send, it's not you! I just have the memory of a wet rag.

Most of my work has at least some suggestive elements to it, because sex is a joke to me (/voice of someone who is very, very aroace). But literally every work does if you peek hard enough. Literally just heed my 18+ warnings on this page and you won't run into anything too gross.

I love weird things! Weird things galore! The more fucked up and absurd, the more I cheer! If you think an idea is stupid, send it to me!! I'd love to discuss it with you. "Sweeter Than Silence" (Project status: Active; In Progress For: 7+ years)

This, my magnum opus, that I've been fiddling at and fucking with the concept of on and off for approximately 11 years, but have been writing for about 7-

Is my LGBT, slice of life healing and depression infused comedy about a woman who goes home to find that everything she's been looking for in a fulfilling life is already there. "Everything", being a murder mystery in her haunted town that she knows wouldn't hurt a fly without good reason, a ragtag gay friend group, and the local hot bartender who is so outlandish it's like he's not even human. (spoiler alert! There might be a reason for that-)

Goofing aside, this story is stuffed to the brim with just the most absurd concepts I could think of. A media about embracing the purest form of self, and learning to love that part of you that finds beauty in the weirdest corners of the world, even if it was killed very young, to embrace your curiosity, and to indulge in suspension of belief. A low stakes, supernatural slasher comedy between a girl who's been told her whole life she's too much and a man who only wants her to get freakier.

"Rose Colored Glasses" (Project status: In Stasis, no longer currently active)

A fanfic i started y e e e a r s ago, when the Hazbin fandom was starved for content. A multi-chapter reader perspective fic, where, after falling into hell, they help an overcompensating Overlord Valentino cease his abusive ways. It's a fix it fic. It's me fixing him. Mostly just an excuse for me to dissect and make a dissertation on Valentino's possibly horrifically fractured and bruised psyche. I like the version of him I made up in my head, but I also like him canon, because he's horrific but he's also just. Iconic. Let's be real. Motivation for this passed on when Hazbin itself shattered my theories, but I still keep it around for fun.

"You're Free" (Project status: Finished! Just for fun)

A fanfic I busted out in like an hour and a half once for a video game that gripped me by the neck. (Cryptid Coffeehouse, I love you.)

Not much to explain on this one, it was a self indulgent little scribble I did once, although if you haven't played CC, I highly recommend it.

Minerica Eorzea — maintained by @wildfireward, this Compendium was inspired by the Botanica Eorzea and serves as her counterpart. It contains item descriptions of raw materials, item descriptions of gear that use said materials, stats of gear that use said materials, leve quest lore, and crafter quest dialogue.

MISC

Animations for XIV — A spreadsheet created and maintained by Sayo#0196 that contains a list of animations that can be useful for posing purposes.

Transparent Assets for GPOSE — Have you ever wanted to overlay a screenshot with XIV’s assets like ‘this scene cannot be skipped’? @fortunafavore has you covered!

With the Tumblr communities in beta, I'm trying to think how to best incorporate them into the Compendium should we get an influx of XIV related ones when the feature goes properly live. While they're currently invite only I won't be adding any (unless community leaders would like to reach out and have them added) but, once they are, I'll either make a separate section in the Compendium for them or sort them between the aforementioned categories as needed. If you have any thoughts, questions or suggestions, please let me know!

Do keep in mind that the feature is in beta, so my thought and categorisations may change as the community feature itself expands. Tumblr may also incorporate a better method of searching/filtering that might make it redundant! We'll have to see.

FAQ.

I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community on the compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.

What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?

Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, absolutely contact me about that.

Hello there! I realize that this is a shot in the dark, but are you by any chance the person that used to have a world building side-blog about Ceathin? I just had a bolt of memory about it and had to go searching through an old email to find any traces of it (i used to send you asks in 2018 about it). I have been missing that world dearly, and if you were at ALL willing I would be so so thankful if you would be willing to share any of that lore. If not, I completely understand, have a good day!

Hi! Not a long shot at all, yes that was me! The blog was mystilfyn, I still have it but it’s been locked for….I want to say four or five years.

Everything on that blog got extremely outdated about a year or two after I made it, and in a bad mental health episode I got a little paranoid about people seeing my personal work - I’m still a little skeevy about it today, to be completely honest, but the headworld itself is still going very strongly and has been for the last six to eight years or so. A lot of it has been scrapped and rebuilt iterations over the years, so while I’m extremely touched that you still remember it (I remember you, btw!! Hello!!) I’m not comfortable bringing the blog back atm bc it’s not an accurate representation of my work anymore, and it’s changed (and I’ve gotten much better at certain aspects, ie. conlanging) as I’ve grown up with it.

So while there’s not much I can bring back or show you, I can show you a snippet of grammar in my conlang document (in a perpetual state of unfinished):

We're going to play a little game. When you click on the link right above the :readmore: all the way down there, you will find yourself at a blank webpage that looks a bit like this:

This webpage will ask you for a specific password for you to enter. If you get the password correct, you will be granted access to the [TOP SECRET]-CLASSIFIED MANN FILES. If you get the password wrong, you will not be granted access to the files.

The password is a four digit number. I will be giving you a riddle to help you find out what this password could be. You might need to use a bit of google for this one:

A little girl with the last name Won goes to an arcade in Korea.

At the arcade, she wins a pinball game.

That was yesterday.

But the pinball machine was cheap, old and rusty.

So all she got was a single coin from it. It was the lowest currency one could get in Korea.

What did the little girl win yesterday?

I know this looks hard, but I promise, you do not have to be Korean to know the answer to this. All you need to know is that, currency in Korea is won (원). I can't give you more information since it may spoil the game, but if you are not sure about anything, you can easily search it up and it'll pop up first thing

If you really find yourself struggling with the answer, I suggest you try reading the riddle out loud ;)

You will be given 24 hours to find the password and get it correct before I reveal the answer for everyone. The timer starts the moment this post is published onto my blog.

There are only 3 rules you should know:

1. If you find the password before everyone else, please don't make it public!! Don't post about it, or tell everyone else. You can tell your friend if they ask for it, sure, but don't ruin the fun for those who still want to try and solve the password!

Hello there! Welcome to my other In Stars and Time AU blog, that being my silly ISaT x Batman crossover!!! While the story here is wholly different, there will still be full-game (including optional content) spoilers all around.

CW - vague mentions of eye injury and homicide

Quick rundown of what is happening here:

The canon mainly diverges once the Country is forgotten, though this story runs with the idea that the Country was a bad place to begin with, thus The King and Siffrin are far worse off here.

Vaugarde is Gotham City, and as such is horrible to live in - or at least, it turned that way once the King appeared. He, driven by anger as well as sadness, sets up shop in Vaugarde where he instead builds a criminal empire in the country, excarberating its already growing issues with crime, with the intent to make Vaugarde "perfect"...wholly under his control, with all opposition and uncontrolled crime slain.

After gaining dominion, The King creates a new, augmentative Wish Craft which he overpowers himself with - only known as Venimeux - to make himself even mightier. People are still frozen in time, but only if they know too much.

Siffrin meets the party MUCH later on, as a result of both countries being cesspools. He's already teetering between Act 4 and 5 levels of madness by the time he gets to Vaugarde, due to extreme mistreatment, loneliness and suffering. Going to the Favor Tree, they make a wish - to have all the time in the Universe to find a forever friend they can never lose. Thus begins the time loop, and thus, eventually, fails his search. This culminates in his final descent into homicidal villainy, realizing that they are not the Universe's chew toy...they were its Clown.

The loops end when someone, converted to Change, sees them wallowing in agony after being overpowered by one of his attempted victims. Out of compassion, the man would bring them into the House to nurse their wounds, where he gives them a starry eyepatch that he specially designed for them. This man is Isabeau, who believes that there is something good in Siffrin.

However, even if there was, it's too late. They were neck-deep in insanity that they can't help but smile brightly at him. Fleeing the House, they make another wish, dismissing the eyes on him - the wish for eternal life, to stay by their friend's side forever. This allows Siffrin to loop themself back after death, beginning the terror of the clownish antagonist, The Playing One.

Isabeau is also burdened, by his canon past of being bullied. However, looking at what's happening to Vaugarde now, he takes a very direct approach to try and save it: vigilantism. With Madame Odile, Bonnie and Mirabelle by his side, he takes on an identity of his own - the Barrelman.

And yes that's a SASASAAP reference hahaha

Ninjago: Neon Warfare is a years long 2-part fan-project of mine written entirely in screenplay format. It’s a sequel to season 11 and deals with the aftermath of Zane’s reign as the Emperor when his past leaks into his home realm. His status, relationships, and health are put in jeopardy.

Ninjago 2510: My cinematic universe where many of my stories and ocs reside in (most notably Neon Warfare and Let’s Play Pretend.) It’s relatively canon-adjacent meaning all the stories and lore should fit in canon.

Let’s Play Pretend: After Crystalized, Lloyds destructive nature finally takes over. Can he be stopped and brought to his senses, or will he be lost to suppressed side of himself?

Golden-Ice-Emperor-Zane: The Ice Emperor is infused by golden power and the Overlords influence. Co-creator: @diisdoodles

Spellbound: A villain casts a spell on all of ninjago and sends them into a world where they believe they are fairy tale characters. Though one individual slipped through the cracks and must make the ninja remember who they are, or all that was is lost.

Fantasy Au: Story that focuses on the beloved Prince Lloyd. When he finds out that he’s been lied to and his father is up to no good, he vows to take over the kingdom for himself, with the aid of the Shining Stallion: Jorge

60 years: Zane tries to survive on his own after losing his memories. On a journey of self-discovery and a search for purpose, Zane gains and loses many families and homes. All the while he dreams of an Ice man with a great big staff, and uses those dreams to enhance his own icy abilities.

Julien and the Prism of Imperium: How a young Julien got ahold of a source of power that he’d eventually use to create his only son. Fast forward decades later, the one who loved and sacrificed themselves to help Julien has survived as a nindroid. They have created a nindroid empire underground, and Zane learns he has not one but 24 other siblings. A certain Cryptor reawakens, seeking to destroy Zane’s new found family.

Know Your ABD's

I’m not going to try and parody Glengarry Glenross here, I’ve never seen it and all I know about it is a matter of cultural osmosis. I assume it’s about how people driven to succeed in sales are in fact good at sales and the results are always good, and you’re meant to walk away from the story going ‘what good salesboys those salesboys were, I am inspired to emulate them.’ Given how many times I’ve seen that speech echoed in actual business environments, it’s got to be a good thing.

Anyway, in that there’s this point where someone iterates something like ‘know your ABCs – always be closing,’ and that idea has sunk into the common world. And that’s why this thought: ABD, Always Be Designing, sticks in my head.

Here’s the short summary before you read the rest: You are always thinking about your projects, so talk to people about them and create a record you can search about those thoughts.

What I’m going to talk about here is centering my experiences. It’s possible your mind doesn’t work this way. It’s equally possible your mind works so differently to mine that this isn’t only not useful but it’s totally alien to you. I can’t promise that it’s going to help you any but I want to lay this out as useful tools for achieving a desired outcome, and that outcome is making things.

I am not someone who can retire to a writer’s garrett to work on my projects. The computer I use to write this blog is also the computer in which I write my PhD and also the desk space I use to draw and also the place I watch TV. I am not given to a very large space that I can subdivide for particular experiences, living as I do in what amounts to a large pod. When I am on the bus, I think about a dozen things, a podcast I’m listening to, a videogame that I’ve been playing, a story I’m working on, and bubbling in amongst this chaotic stream of thinking is game design. I keep documents open for when ideas occur to me, and yes, this is a sign of a pretty disordered mind, but it’s also about capturing the mind’s inspirations as it goes.

If I’m watching a TV show on my second monitor and sorting numbers on the first monitor as part of say, marking student work, then that TV show may give me an idea for a game lore idea, or a mechanical structure, or even just an old or archaic game that I can look at for mechanics. Is this time spent working on a game? I’m watching a TV show, after all.

To this end, I think that I am always designing games, more or less, and the question is not about when I do it or how I do it but much more importantly, how do I capture those data?

I just said ‘those data’, this is going to annoy Fox so much.

Anyway, the trick I’ve learned is to talk to people, and to keep continuity on a searchable chat medium as long as I can. I use discord currently, but back in the day I used to save all my chat logs when I was using AOL Instant Messenger. I could search all those with DOS commands (yeah, I hung onto DOS for a long time) and that meant any time I brought up a fact about a character or a story I was ‘working on’ back in those days, it wasn’t very hard to find it again. If we all pivot to something cool and super lightweight like mIRC, I bet that system will be amazing for big piles of logs, since the client can just dump .txt files all over again.

If I have an idea for a game, I just tell someone about it. If I’m listening to something interesting in a podcast, I find a friend who has some common interest with it, and I talk to them about it. I’ll often do this with, at some point, saying the word: “Concept:” or “Idea:” and that means when I go back to search for it, I can find it more readily.

Now, this means sharing your ideas, and that means you’re going to find people who aren’t immediately supportive of your creative endeavours. That indicates they’re bad friends to talk to about your creative endeavours and you know, I don’t know why else you’d talk to them, but hey, your friend group, your vibes. Me, I like to make things and I think all my friends are pretty used to me doing that.

Anyway.

What I think this push is to do is to lead to making out loud. See, there’s this way of thinking of making things that is at times, I think, a little precious of talking about the things you’re doing rather than actually doing them. I know for me, I felt that talking about One Stone as I wrote it was both very inappropriate and potentially, like I was releasing a genie from a pop can, going to dispel things. If anyone knew how the story would end, maybe my enthusiasm would melt and I would never write the end of the book.

This idea, this playful threat to our own creativity, is something I see a lot on tumblr. ‘Ah, but what if instead of writing, I instead lay on the floor and was sad about not doing it?’ well, that probably indicates a mental illness or an unwillingness to write, neither of which are a problem but also neither of which are a bad reason to write and neither of which are a good reason to beat yourself up. For myself, one of the things that gets me creating is when people around me can react to what I’m doing. Showing people things that they get interested in, that they get enthusiastic about is a big part of the process, especially because your friends can tell you if you’re doing something unhinged.

Make out loud.
