i keep seeing people (mainly liberals to be fair) suggest that the Democrats should just let the electorate suffer the consequences of their votes and they’ll come “crawling back” in 2028 and i’m sorry but how do people really think all of this works?
so people didn’t vote for the Democrats in 2024 because they felt like they weren’t offering them anything… but if they spend the next 4 years doing nothing and letting the Republicans tear everything down from the inside and then nominate Pete Buttigieg in 2028 to run on the same platform as Kamala, you think people will go “oh, that sounds much better now”?
like… shit is going to be so much worse in 4 years even with any kind of milquetoast pushback from the Democrats. so much so that it’s not even a foregone conclusion there will even be an election in 2028.
do you genuinely think that a platform that didn’t exhibit enough urgency or comprehension of peoples material conditions in 2024 is really going to be more effective in 2028? or do you think maybe the people who haven’t been harmed by the time 2028 rolls around will be even more convinced that Trump is the answer and the people who have been harmed even more than they already were will have lost faith completely?

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.
If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.
Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/
Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.) If you want an extra verification, find your state's election website and double-check there.
So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)

i can’t really think of anyone that most people in the US would have less general sympathy for than a dead health insurance CEO. like take all the bad things about corporate monopolies that you’d experience with like your phone or internet provider and then add on the financial incentive to let thousands of people die of preventable illnesses and then bill their families for it. literally an institution that automates social murder. even the most burgerpilled american must cheer for this man’s death

the thing is I already know that men and society at large hate women. I know that young men in particular increasingly skew right and towards misogyny (I've read the articles, although all I really need to do is spend any time on any part of the internet to see the evidence). but then every so often something like this happens where it still somehow surprises me. like my god.. they really hate us this much.

THIS WAS ON A FRIEND’S PAGE: An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’
THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse:
That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine."
That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay."
That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem."
That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue."
That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me."
That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!"
That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw.
That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?"
That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense."
That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!"
That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!"
That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!"
That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be."
That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!"
That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!"
That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense."
That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!"
That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.”
That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise.
What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.
Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

also while we're at it, "progressive" doesn't mean anything and doesn't describe any specific ideology and is a cop out term for people who want leftists to vote for them while not losing out on corporate and further right support. meaningless catch all terms for ideologies that exist to appease rich donors result in people like john fetterman getting elected on vague promises.
it has been shown time and time again that committing to actual radical change and standing by it is the way forward and actually a viable way to get elected, making empty promises using vague words that sound radical and then slowly assimilating into the establishment has yet to result in meaningful change

"Missouri is currently enforcing a total abortion ban with exceptions for medical emergencies. The ballot measure's proposal to enshrine the right to abortion until fetal viability - typically around 24 weeks in pregnancy - drew support from 52% of Missouri voters in a St. Louis University/YouGov poll conducted from Aug. 9-16. The measure would need more than 50% support to pass."

If you're USamerican and feel very strongly about how people vote in this upcoming election, if you feel hopeless about how those around you aren't voting, here's some suggestions.
Sign up to be a poll worker or election worker in your county. You might need to call or email the local election office to find out how to do this.
Get very familiar with your local voting process and its bureaucracy. Know the important deadlines and remind people of them. (Being a poll worker helps a lot with this.)
Ask your friends and family if they're voting. Have progressive voting guides on hand if they don't know who or what to vote for. Offer to drive people or go with them to vote. Fill out your mail-in ballots together.
Organize and join get out the vote campaigns. Canvass. Table. Flyer. Call. Text.
Don't shame people for ambivalence, disinterest, or hostility to voting. Be curious. Provide practical advice and tangible support.

I would just like to say- while anxiety is high waiting for the results to come in
That I wish any of you US folks who didn’t vote for Kamala Harris because “both sides are bad” or voted third party for the same reason, Or those of you who didn’t bother to vote because you live somewhere that is too red or too blue to make a difference- a very genuine fuck you from the bottom of my heart.
And I sincerely hope the choice you made haunts you for the rest of your life

I'm not sympathizing with Trump voters. Not anymore and never again. You deserve what you get.
We're done with that shit.
Good luck with that.

Reminder: this is a goofyfun, non-serious poll. If you are genuinely upset at any point, step back. If you are genuinely salty, step back. If you are attacking anyone’s character, we don’t want you here. Yes, even if they’re redditors or twitter users - we’re all the same fandom at the end of the day, people. Go take a drink and a snack and a time-out and come back in ten, yeah?
(And if you are one of those mythical off-site users, welcome! Please, while you’re here, check the propaganda for all the other guys, not just your vote! This is like r/place - there's a lot going on elsewhere on the canvas, so take a look! We hope you stick around!)
For everyone, just remember: the real joy of this event has absolutely nothing to do with who wins. It's all about the narrative we create, the community we're in, and the creativity that we make from it. Just make sure to always keep that in mind!
