oh my gosh! thank you!! i really love character interactions and relationship dynamics, so i wanted to depict two girls who seemed like opposites - one cool and laid-back, the other soft and sweet. after a while they started to take on a life of their own, and i thought it'd be wonderful if their story could evoke the feeling of a shoujo romance!

i had a lot of things on my mind when i wrote the script... friendship, intimacy, communication... communication can be so hard! sometimes it's harder with someone you're close to because their opinion is so important to you. and what happens when you've got a character who's non-confrontational and has low self-esteem + someone who prefers actions over words, and would rather burn bridges than admit to feeling vulnerable? how would they get past that? i wanted to write their flaws as believable, and how their life experiences have shaped the way they think about themselves / the way they respond to personal conflict... but also how they learn from each other and grow ❤️ tysm for the question!!

thank you both so much!!!! <3 a sequel is actually one of the ideas i pitched for my second book! my editor cautioned against it in case IYHM didn't perform well, so i ended up going in a different direction - but my fingers are crossed for future opportunities 😤 realistically, it will probably depend on sales... but for the record, i'd want to do one regardless of the numbers...

i have one more book coming out, which i'm working on right now! the timeline is a bit up in the air atm but i'll try to keep everyone posted. making a book is so slow but i'm so grateful to you all for waiting 🥺💛

I spent most day revising this, and I'm still not completely confident on my first time writing someone else's OC, but I was inspired to and I think it's a good experience. I just hope I didn't mess it up too much.

When Maeve woke up, it was still dark, and Keith was nowhere to be seen. She got dressed and went looking for him.

The place felt empty, and was almost silent, except for the sounds and sweet scent coming from the kitchen. She was sure he was trying to make something for her birthday, but why this early?

Knowing where her boyfriend was, she chose to let him work and went outside to investigate the sound of running water.

She wasn’t expecting a trip for her birthday this time, but she was grateful for it. They would have more time together that way. But she was more surprised that Keith had taken her to a place in Indicolite, close to the border with Jade.

Maeve had never been to this side of Indicolite before, except on passing, and since they arrived at night, she hadn’t had time to explore the place.

Although it was still dark, there were lamps lit in the garden, so she walked out.

The water sound came from the river that ran by the side of the house to the edge of a cliff and down into the forest below.

She walked closer to the wall at the border of the cliff, looking at the valley. There was a small village built in the clearings closer to the river, somewhat visible under a few lamps, and the forest extended beyond that, for as long as she could see in all directions.

Strong arms wrapped around her waist, and she looked back, smiling at her boyfriend.

“The sun will be up in a moment.” He kissed her tenderly. “Do you remember the last time we did this?”

“How could I not? It was a sweet surprise.”

“I thought we could have a proper chance to watch the sunrise since we are here.”

“Is this why you brought me all the way here?”

“It was Princess Carina who suggested this place. She thought we would like some privacy today.”

“Is she why this place seems so empty? There don’t seem to be guards or servants here.”

“There are some guards close by, but I don’t think we’ll even see them unless something happens. The closest people we have of us otherwise live down in the village.”

“So we have a house all to ourselves today?”

“I thought you would like that.”

“I do.” Maeve kissed him.

She snuggled up to him, and he pulled her closer, a hand lightly rubbing over her belly.

“Especially since it will be the last chance we’ll have of a day alone like this. Next year, everything will be different.”

Maeve held his hand, intertwining their fingers.

“It will be like a new down for us, too. And our lives will gradually change colors, like the sky right now.”

Colors that washed over the world, bringing light and a sense of peace and contentment.

Light that made visible lots of the trees were different species than the ones she was used to seeing, including some that were covered in colorful flowers. Light that woke up the birds, who sang in greeting of the new dawn.

“So poetic.” Keith muttered, tightening his hold on her hand. “I’m glad we get to watch the sunrise with you. Both this, and the one to come into our lives.” He kissed the top of her head. “But you are the sun that brings light and color to my life.”

Maeve finally pulled away enough to turn around and kiss him.

“Who is being poetic now?” She asked shyly.

“How can I not?” Keith took her hands in his and stepped back to look her over. “Bathed in the light and colors of the sunrise like this, you look like a dream. An ethereal being sent to save me.” He stepped closer again. “Happy birthday, my sun. Thank you for all the light you brought into my life and everything yet to come.” An arm wrapped around her waist to draw her in for a kiss, deeper than any they’d shared until then.

Maeve looped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.

They would be each other’s sunlight, the source of peace and happiness, and all the colors of each other’s lives.

“Thank you for being my light, too. Both of you. I love you.”

That children's scene is very symbolic, and I decided to do the version that no one asked me for, but our little fandom needed
