Greetings, Mr. Meshi!

This is perhaps a bit of an unorthodox question, but one that has been bothering me for an unreasonable amount of time.

Now, here's the thing: I OBSESS over Marcille outliving everyone she holds dear. It's a theme very close to me, but even beyond that I just find it to be one of the most interesting elements of Dungeon Meshi's story for me personally. I've written an embarrassing amount of lengthy essays on it that will never see the light of day - that's how obsessed I am over this specific element of her character. But, there's something that bothers me...

A lot of poignant stories and artworks that tackle this topic get comments on 'em whenever Falin is the subject of aging, each one some variation of "Everything points to Falin having an extended lifespan after her revival!" which... Seems weird to me?

I don't know why this bothers me so much, but setting aside my personal annoyances, I don't remember anything pointing to this at all. At least, nothing concrete.

I don't know if this is a question you'd want to answer or not, but since your blog is a hub for all sorts of opinions and headcanons, I'd love to know where this line of thought could originate from.

I really wouldn't blame you if you didn't answer this question, though. Part of me feels I'm just asking this because I want to see if others share in my confusion or not.

(Decided to put the rest under a readmore, TLDR: Kui said "maybe so, right?" about Falin having a longer lifespan but I have arguments why I don't think this actually confirms it. Anyway if you're someone who likes the headcanon you might want to skip this post)

To be honest those type of comments bother me too because I also LOVE Marcille's struggle with mortality and sometimes "Falin will live much longer!" feels undermining of the lesson she had to learn. I don't mind it in the headcanon sphere where everything is allowed and happy endings grow on trees but when it becomes intertwined with canon it starts to make me a little disappointed.

Just a reminder of the lesson she has to learn

She has to come to terms with the cycle of life and death, that something she wants (everyone to live longer) shouldn't be forced upon others just because it causes her grief. So, to me at least, Falin being made into something that will end up outliving other tallmen would undermine the message? In a canon sense ofc, if you're writing a wish fulfillment story then her living longer would have a different meaning, I just wanna be clear I have nothing against it in that sense, it all depends on what story you're trying to tell.

Anyway, actually answering your question that idea comes from the fact she was fused to a Red Dragon, and the fact her body has been affected by it, her sight was fixed and she grows feathers for example, so people theorize maybe her lifespan has been affected too. But we don't really know how long dragon's live so it's hard to say how much it would have been affected if at all.

To me this reads as the usual non-answers Kui gives, like, "I'll leave it up to your imagination" but for other people this read as a confirmation of the headcanon, in another questions she answers "I hope so" about Thistle leading a happy life after having his desires eaten and it's even debatable if Thistle survived at all so I don't think those comments indicate much of canon (I'm that way about most QnA answers tbh, unless it's something inconsequential like confirming Mithrun's Brother's name or stuff about very minor characters)

Another argument I have against her having a different lifespan is Izutsumi, Izu has been mixed with a monster but continues to age at the same rate a Tallmen would, even tho she also has different biology because of the Great Cat she's fused with (ears, reflexes, eyes etc etc) she is still a tallman

Falin isn't really the same thing as Izutsumi tho, I understand, but it's the closest example we have, if we believe the AB descriptions and demi-humans are really mixes between humans and monsters that's also another argument about it not affecting lifespan, since all of them are short lived and have an average lifespan of 55.

All of this *can* be dissmissed tho, the other demi-humans and beastmen are all mixed with mammal monsters and nothing nearly as powerful as a Dragon, so there is arguments to be made that Falin is different and that she *might* have an extended lifespan, all I'm saying is that there's no solid confirmation of it, it's fine to believe it but going around "correcting" other people saying it's a fact wouldn't be right I don't think, especially if you're saying that in a conversation about Marcille journey of death acceptance.

Death is a touchy subject and everyone is at different stages of their own journeys with it so I really don't want to judge those who would rather have Falin or even Laios live longer. I'm not really sure how to talk about this in the proper way, but I hope I didn't make anyone upset!

Enid(your bestfriend), and you were currently eating lunch together. You listened to Enid as she spoke about her new, odd, roommate called, Wednesday Addams.

“So, Y/N! I have this new roomie, and well, she’s quite interesting if I do say so myself,” Enid chuckled as she took another bite out of her lunch.

“What do you mean by “interesting” Enid?” You said as you made quotation marks in the air.

Enid sallowed the bite she was chewing on, and looked at you. “I mean, she’s not ordinary. And there absolutely nothing wrong with that! We all aren’t ordinary, but she’s just different in some type of way.”

You listened intently, “I somewhat understand. No need to explain any further. Also speaking of Wednesday, where is she? It’s lunch time”

“She’s probably in her dorm! She always eats in there.”

You smirked deviously

“You know what would be funny?

“I should totally go and annoy, Addams!”

Wow. Enid wasn’t kidding. She was intimidating. Her voice sent shivers down your spine, but you talked to people like this. You can handle it!

Wednesday cut you off, “I didn’t ask for a whole speech. You are yet to respond to my question.” She said with a cold voice

Wednesday finally turned to look at you.

“Actually having thoughts of people suffering makes me sleep at night. I find it quite calming,” Wednesday said without any hesitation.

Okay now you fully understand what Enid meant by, “not ordinary roommate.”

Wednesday turned back around to her desk, and there was silence for a few minutes.

The smirk you had before when talking to Enid came back.

So I've seen a lot of discourse around some of the arcane ships and I felt like throwing my opinion into the ring too

I will preface this by saying I think shipping is fine, I am a casual shipper of both Jayce/Viktor (Though I think a queerplatonic relationship could work lovely for them) and Vander/Silco (yeah this ones a lil silly I guess but i just think it's funny so)

So firstly, Viktor and Jayce. I have seen lots of people (mostly on reddit but some here too) saying that we shouldn't ship them because guys should be allowed to be close and affectionate without being called gay. That is a valid viewpoint until it comes to the point where one is invalidating LGBTQ relationships. There is definitely a sore lack of healthy, close affectionate m/m friendships in the mainstream media. However, there is also a MASSIVE lack of good M/M, and same sex couple representation in general and there has been for many years. When people try to say "why is everything gay nowadays" it comes across as rude and condescending because it's really not true. The LGBTQ community has fought so hard just to reach the level of acceptance that we are at today, and even that is the bare minimum and below in some places. I think we should be allowed to have both of those things, they should be able to coexist, but people aren't making it better by just attacking anyone else who shares a slightly different opinion.

By all means criticise JayVik for it's faults (Mel?? My girl?? Jayce fumbled you so hard and the writers did too) (Also Skye, they deadass brought her back this season just to get rid of her again) but don't make it about that.

I think let people ship whatever they want to ship, and as long as it's not harming real people and if it's something that could potentially trigger people then keep it to yourself/make sure it stays within circles of people that it won't trigger.

Same applies to Vander/Silco, though I knowww this one is a bit more controversial. Way I see it, the "brothers" that they refer each other to applies more in a "comerades" sense, as I believe it was translated as such in the other language dubs? Anyway yeah, I just think they'd be funny together and they have a lot of angst writing potential so...

Yeah. Just let people ship who they wanna ship, shippers, don't force anyone to believe in it if the writers deliberately left it ambiguous (JayVik ending scene). At the end of the day they are all just fictional characters and That Is Okay. It's all chill.

thinking about Naruto MHA crossover where post Shippuden but pre Boruto Team 7 end up in the world of MHA and have to choose a hero name for themselves for whatever reason and this conversation happens

Sakura decides on Medic-nin, very basic, she's the first that chose and didn't think everyone else was going to go take it THAT seriously.

I thought about how they'd go about the quirk thing. They can't attract too much attention using all their abilities, so they plan out what to use.

Sakura thought calling herself the Medic of the group would get her underestimated as the sideliner, but she uses her strength to shatter people's bones while naming them.

Naruto mostly stays within Shadow clones and Henge techniques, as well as speed. He allows himself the occasional Rasengan if things get real touch and go.

Kakashi goes all copy nin on them. I'm going to say he can use chakra to copy emitter quirks, so he goes with that and predicting people's moves and general taijutsu.

Sasuke goes all genjutsu on people. Allows himself the occasional chidori too though. Once they get a reliable way to care for them, he also starts sword fighting people.

In my head the first chapter of the fic would be a pov alternation between Aizawa telling a task force of heroes about the new vigilantes on the rise, all serious and gloomy, and team 7 having the above conversation

I was thinking of why this could've happened and I can very well blame the aliens still. I mean, they make a comeback in Boruto. But I want to ignore that show and make up my own ideas post Shippuden. But I mean. If the aliens have a time traveling device what's stopping me from saying they also have a universe traveling one?

So my idea is that team 7 accidentally activated it and it's got this ENORMOUSLY long cool down because it uses a ridiculous amount of chakra. This was only possible because Naruto was there essentially. So they're mostly chill. It's long enough after the war that the biggest issue is Kakashi isn't there to be Hokage, but I mean. Yamato can fill in for a few. So they're only biding their time and making sure the aliens don't come cause problems. Hence the double identities. They wanna make sure they can both spy around and hang out in public places without being constantly Henged.

Meanwhile the hero commission is in shambles because Naruto is physically incapable of minding his own beeswax, especially when children are being mistreated. He's honestly one fist fight away from befriending the LoV let's be honest.

obito trying to kill kakashi doesnt mean he hates him (sounds crazy, i know, but its not impossible). obito dissociates and sees this kakashi as a “fake”. he tries to kill and mocks kakashi because of practicality. killing is what you do to those who oppose you (when youre a villain lol) since they’re problematic. mocking him throws him off his game, which makes it easier to kill him. the real kakashi is gonna be in the IT, and he’ll see him there. this kakashi is also a connection to his past self, which may contribute to his desire to eliminate him.

its the same reason he kills so many people despite wanting everyone to live in a world free of pain and suffering. to him, these people are imposters, and the real them (and him) will exist within the infinite tsukuyomi. this kakashi is scum, he himself is scum, everyone who isnt scum will become scum. he didnt experience a change of philosophy when he offered kakashi peace in the IT because he didnt call kakashi scum out of hatred. he knows that the world forced kakashi to become scum, so he doesnt blame him for rins death, and thats why he feels this world is a hell. it forces everyone to either become scum or dead.

i heard this fun fact about flora being a top student and joked about it a little on a fake jokey tecna flora beef video (the creator said it was a joke between them and their friend so it wasn't really editing beef) but the comment was met with so much... (no hate) reactions because i dared to jokingly say that "ive heard somewhere that flora is smarter than tecna, i wonder if they have beef over their personal learning styles"- which tbh i know sounds kind of silly It Was but someone- the first comment actually was like "you flora stans are always making things up istg" to which i reply "oh i just saw it in the winx power musical and i heard it somewhere :)" and they were like "thats not canon tho" and people were so quick to like defend tecna and lol all caps at my little comment because the very idea that flora and tecna (fictional characters) would have "beef over personal learning styles" when the point was inteligence is kinda subjective. i mean- flora is a botanist and observant like how she noticed the fern in helia's paper. she can revitalize forests as well with convergence magic/her own magic and can speak to nature. ofc tecna is smart too! i mean Super smart and a stratagist- combative skills are great, and knows so much about technology and tecnomagic. but in a different way that Alfea might not value or specialize with their classes (it said she was above average student) it's also a flaw given that she "relies too much on logic" so I just joked that she ""might have beef"" with someone who works differently. (luckily they don't seem to Real beef in canon or said musical which makes me happy good for my stem fairies)

anyway one of the main issues about the drama on that site is like how much people care so much about scaling the characters to the point where it gets Very Opinonated and like ???? (especially Flora where there are two camps who see her as super weak and super strong where i think shes in the middle in s1-4) Often people seem to dislike the belief that Flora is stronger due to her powers being nature which is everywhere. Which I get too. But I'm in the camp that she is a very strong and capable character who the writers wrote her to be weaker alone with the Trix in season 1 because of her personality. but they tone this down we see her strength really grow in the next 3 seasons and she is seen holding her own against other foes. it makes sense because in season 1 most were new students and we see the evolution of her powers. from what I gather she is written to be on the same level as the other Winx in the Nickelodeon era (5-7) and world of winx for the most part, with that fight with her and Icy in 6 being a notable one. overall im not always a fan on how some of the writers handled the "emotional side" of flora, aisha, and musa in some scenes. especially in battle having their temper/emotional side being a slight "deterence" or a flaw. (ie Aisha and Valtor, Aisha and nemesis in wow, and her search for vengance in s4, Musa having the Pixie of manners which ig but I've never seen her as someone with "bad manners") in my opinon it might be better with Musa than the others. like rushing into it while for the others, notably stella and bloom- their emotions is their motivation and source of their power and energy where it is often the others "are more instinctive" sometimes or where they rely on too much on one idea like their ideology (Tecna and flora?? maybe) or they are throwing their caution out and diving in. yet stella and bloom are depicted as clearheaded in the story to me- as in it's not a main flaw for them. what do you think?

- the rankings can be intentionally or unintentionally mean spirited as well, if they think all of the fan transformation is pretty and drawn good there isnt so much like mean words but if like they have more mixed opinons you see people write things like "eww" you dont have to like it or have your strong dislike thats a point of critique but mind your words geez. dont need to say eww or like "do i need to say anything." (<worst offender to me) when when i would watch it to see your like geniune "design critiquing" about something from a artist or fandom you like. ngl it kind of takes me back to like old cringe videos when ppl would say these like out of pocket things and used the most intense language over art but not as much so as that sort of thing was so much more extreme and was like an abuse of like power with those people having so many followers. and it seems like they do not get permisson to repost the fan transformations as many artists want you to ask them their policy on sharing/resposting before doing so with credit.

the tecna vs flora thing is Wild !! flora is canonically a straight A student and consistently one of the best students at alfea. tecna is absolutely the Smart One but their specialities lie in different areas. tecna does Not know as much about plants, chemistry, or potion making. just like flora doesn't know as much about technology, engineering, or piloting. they have their individual strengths!! being that mad that someone acknowledges flora's canon intelligence or headcanons that they may have conflict over how they learn is so ? like,,, tecna canonically gets mad at flora's plants being everywhere and that's Part of flora's schooling,, it's not wild to say they may have small arguments from time to time!

and god yes the power scaling is SO bad!! first, who gives a fuck, all of the winx are canonically strong and powerful as shit, we don't need to have a fucking pissing contest about it. but second, it's literally canon that bloom is the strongest! that's not debatable! it's so funny to me when i see people say "oh well she's only the strongest because of the dragon's flame 🙄" like yeah... that's the point... that's part of the plot... also the "official" ranking of who the strongest winx is changes every season! in the first season, tecna was the strongest. then it was stella. then it changed to flora. iginio changes his mind A Lot and it's often based on popularity and individual character arcs in the season. some tiktok teens have convinced themselves that the whole "flora is the second strongest" thing was Made Up by flora stans just because they don't have five minutes to google it themselves ahdla they also think iginio only said that because flora is his favorite even though he's said multiple times that musa is his favorite winx but yknow! whatever!

i've noticed they also only consider offensive attack magic when considering the power levels,,, like the reasoning anti flora fans have for her being the weakest is just that she uses a lot of defensive magic alkdghl like yeah that's part of her personality? she doesn't like to hurt people, even the trix. it's literally a "flaw" that she has that the winx call her out on because she ends up getting hurt because she refuses to hurt the villains. like,, her being more peaceful is Not an indication of her power level but okay! tecna also uses a lot of defensive spells but no one says anything about her aldhgl like wow they all have different fighting styles! what a surprise!

ALSO YES ohmygod the first time i saw a tiktok rating a fan transformation?? i kid you not, i literally gasped out loud. the fucking rudeness??? i think tiktok fans have this issue where they literally do not humanize other winx fans, especially the artists, so they think it's perfectly okay to not only repost their art but also criticize it. i've actually seen a lot of that kind of art discourse on tiktok where people think "oh if you post it online it's basically up for grabs and anyone can shit on it". like,,, no,,,,, it's literally just common decency to not criticize someone's personal art?? unless they're very explicitly asking for it, you don't get to do that??? and everyone in the comments was Also bashing these poor artists and it's like??? did no one teach you people manners????? it's absolutely not the same thing as criticizing the canon transformations and it's actually so upsetting that these kids think it's okay.
