Kaneki has this trouble quite a bit. He suspects things then just ignores it.

I remember when I first ever read this and I couldn't keep up with Hide's explanation because I'm stupid. He is quick though.

I love these two panels. Two ghouls stating that the silly human poses a threat is significant.

Question for you: if you were a ghoul, and started a friendship with Hide and he came out with his theories, would you continue to be friends with him or try and distance yourself?

So this panel of sad Hide: I interpret this as he's feeling disappointed and worried and sad because he gave Kaneki a big opportunity to confess everything to him, and he didn't. What do you guys think?

An idea popped into my head, to quickly outline - someone at Anteiku convinced Kuzen to spar with Hinami, who needs to learn to actually use her kagune.

This does not go according to plan.

Hinami tries out a trick with her rinkaku that works on a similar principle to the way the whole "the tip of a bullwhip breaks the sound barrier" thing. It doesn't actually break the sound barrier, because her kagune has too much mass and air resistance to pull that off, but it's nearly impossible to dodge, which is the point.

It also requires Hinami to know her ranges really well, because it's basically impossible to adjust the trajectory mid-swing. And she doesn't have that practice yet.

So she's intending to hit Kuzen's kagune with a blistering first strike -that *looks* slow and easy to dodge, but will hit with the tip of her kagune before her opponent realizes what's happening.

Well it sure does the second one.

Hinami's rinkaku tentacle whips around, but she doesn't know her range yet, so Hinami hits Kuzen's kagune a little way down from the tip of the tentacle, causing the end to whip downward and bury one of the side spikes in the back of Kuzen's ribs, before either Kuzen or Hinami can react to it.

(Both Hinami and Kuzen will be fine. Hinami will get over feeling bad about this, and Kuzen will regenerate the broken rib and hole in his lung and be fine, he's just going to be miserable coughing up half-clotted blood and gunk in the washroom for a bit.)

we all know root A is sort of a hunk of garbage. i don't disagree with that.

HOWEVER,

it sure does have its moments. like, this first gif with yoshimura prying the doors open; t e r r i f y i n g ! ! !

it's truly animated so beautifully, so hauntingly...

really reminds me of something out of neon genesis evangelion. i don't know if anyone else gets those vibes, but i do.

Why did Yoshimura entrust Kaneki to save Eto?

he's projecting eto's half-ghoulness onto kaneki's half-ghoulness, in part, and because kaneki has that tendency to not say no to helping someone. there's also the part where yoshimura and kaneki are rather alike: they're the type of person who wants to be needed without having to step outside of their comfort zone. The best kind of tool, really.

would also explain why Yomo was lurking around the underground in volume 4.

Let's just assume he was on the lookout for more waifs and strays.

I think after Arata was captured, I think Touka and Ayato ran into 24th Ward because that's the ghoul society, or maybe Hikari came from that. Hence why Touka can speak its dialect why Ayato doesn't (because he was too young)

Then Mr. Yoshimura learned about them and took them under his wings, as a reward for Yomo's services/Yomo begged him to. But since the siblings lived in 24th ward for a while they were agressive and violent.

I love this chapter.

At first, it was because it was Yomo heavy and had hints regarding his background, but now after rereading a billion times, I noticed all the foreshadowing, all the suggestions and subtleties that there is A Lot Of Shit Going On™️. Excellent stuff.

Btw this picture suggests a funeral. I wrote on my old blog, a long ass post regarding my thoughts on this picture: paying particular attention to the photo Itori is carrying and the wistful, sad expression she has when discussing babies later on. Interesting stuff.

Tell me this isn't a nod to Charles Manson.

She does this to create ease and comfort, so folks drop their guard and overshare. Manipulative.

I hated this scene then, and I still do now because I can't stand bullies. I really feel for Kaneki because he's so fucking daft and socially inept. I think most, if not a few, people at least would be like "O-Kay, you can fuck RIGHT off" after this happens, but Ken doesn't challenge it at all. He totally accepts what's happened like this is normal behaviour.

Either that, or he's learnt that he's not worth defending. He's so used to being trodden on, that he believes that setting boundaries for himself is wrong.

Itori sowing seeds of inquiry in ken, whilst also involving Yomo in a conversation which he clearly doesn't want to be part of. Yomo know as much, if not more, than Itori and Uta, but cannot or doesn't want to divulge...for?? Loyalty to Yoshimura? Concern for Ken?

For whatever reason, in my opinion, this illustrates Itori's lack of regard for Yomo (or at least his alliance with Yoshimura). She's hinting -not subtly - that Yomo knows more than he's letting on. She's basically fucking with Kanekis head, and testing Yomo. Great friend ☺️

Drip feeding info again. This is so staged it's laughable (with the gift of knowing what happens later on of course). Again - poor Kaneki.

this is another part I really hated. I really felt for Kaneki. Everyone seems to know his origin story better than he does, and nobody wants to sit him down and talk with him about it. It's really fucked up, especially since he's an adult.

It reminds me of people that find out they've been lied to their entire life about being adopted etc. knowing your past, your "birth" (because Kanekis ghoulification is like being reborn) should be a right granted to everyone. What the individual does with that info is up to them, but lying? Cmon, Yoshimura...

(and knowing that uta and Itori, the latter being a stranger until five minutes ago, know more than you and were discussing it behind your back with who knows how many people, is cruel no matter how much you try and justify it).
