Hehe I was super excited to do this one but sadly I do things in order of oldest to newest BUT none the less, here you go, our favorite stupid bastards

New Jersey and New York-

Jersey likes to cuddle and York likes receiving cuddles, so it isn’t uncommon to find the two together in the North living room

Jersey = Jer-bear, York = Yorka-doodle, they never call each other these in front of others

They go skating a ton, early morning public skate and public hockey are mainly what they do

Always fighting when it comes to certain foods, specifically pizza and bagels, otherwise they are perfect with each other in the kitchen

Jersey sends York stupid stuff from Tumblr, York does the same but with Twitter

Impromptu sleepovers in York's room happen a lot, York has sleep problems and as said before, Jersey cuddles, win win sitch

They fight, a lot, technically it’s just arguments but to pretty much everyone except the NE, it sounds like fighting (granted the NE sometimes thinks they are genuinely fighting but shh)

“Murder is illegal”  “You can’t murder people it’s rude” etc. are said whenever they are in the city

Despite not talking to each other for about 40ish years, they went right back to how they were before, if just a bit closer

They both fake hate each other, for no reason other than seeing the shocked faces of the other states while they simply cook breakfast together

Just Dance Night (the other states get flashbacks when ever they hear the Just Dance intro)

They like to just exist in the same space, doesn’t matter if they are doing two completely different things, they’ll continue to hang out VIRGINIA

They bet on everything, who will get to the table faster, who will make breakfast the quickest without messing up, everything

They always think to message the other first when something is happening, doesn’t matter if the sitch doesn’t really need the other, they still will

Since Jersey still speaks fluent Dutch and York has his broken messed up Dutch that Jersey understands, they will ‘gossip’ to each other in front of the other states

When they do that, they are really just talking about dinner plans and what movies they should see, but in the most condescending and judgmental tone they can

Movie dates, any movie whether they think it’ll be good or not

They sometimes come of as very big and little brother coded, York being the older while Jerseys the younger, when in reality it’s switched

Jersey finds it hilarious whenever people think he and York are dating, they aren’t, they consider each other brothers and technically are, York always wants to kill the people who do think they are dating, “Murder is Illegal Yorkie” he doesn’t care

Family dinners are once a month with Jersey’s moms and occasionally not, father, father, and York's grandparents

They have so much dirt on each other that if one says something so will the other, you know the nuclear deal between America and Russia? Yeah it’s basically that but with blackmail

If one’s sick the others clingy, if one's sad the others clingy, if one-

They like to dance with each other, even if there’s no music (it’s mainly spinning without music though)

Jersey has bad English days sometimes, so York will translate, on those days they tend to just haul up in York's room and put on a random Hockey game

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#25)

#25: Alexandros Panayi -- Sti Fotia (Cyprus 1995)

“With my grey uniform I learnt To love the Holy God I change the truth And I walk ahead strongly”

This song is so epic, but it wasn't always seen as that way. The version that won the NF made people mad because Michalis Hatzigiannis, who was a teen star in the mid-1990s, had two submissions in the final that year, making him a huge contender. Apparently, they canceled out, which led to Sti Fotia winning out.

Version 1.0 of Sti Fotia needed some kinks to be worked out in the composition; compared to the final version, it sounded rockier yet messier. The revamp, along with George Theophanous' arrangement, not only smoothed things out, but also helped the whole instrumental come alive.

The strings throughout provide a brooding soundscape, the powerful drums which place the song in its Greek roots, the wind section which add a sense of flair--all of these elements combine together to make an amazing, and theatrical song. Even the live singing has these moments into it--from the backing vocalists to Alex's long moaning in between choruses. And Alex arrives on stage under a curtain!

But for me, the lyrics really shine here—they talk about someone who never gives up, and fights against what the world tells them. It reminds me of certain family members that have gone through a lot, particularly those which came to the United States for better opportunities. So the lyric "I'm the Greek who goes forward" might not make sense here, but hey, who says it had to be super specific? They remind me of an epic tale with its highs and lows.

Overall, Sti Fotia is why Eurovision is so precious. The use of traditional elements, combined with a compelling story in the lyrics, makes for a very substantive song. The overall feeling transfers to the stage, and it feels like Alex and co. brought the ancient Greek past to 1995 (which is in a good way despite the misalignment in the charts). The Greek entry does that too (which you will see soon), therefore making 1995 the year where both Greece and Cyprus snapped. Despite their mid-table finishes, they are still beloved to this day, and I'm happy to see how much people still appreciate them.

Yeah yeah, fire indeed.

Final Impressions on Cyprus: The country with the most participations without a win, Cyprus is commonly seen as the "little sibling" to Greece (despite a substantial Turkish population there). That said, it does experiment with its music more, going between pop, rock, acoustic, and electronic all at once. Personally, I do think they have a bit behind Greece, though some Greek entrants from Eurovision, like Anna Vissi and Loukas Yorkas, are from the island.

Recently though, Cyprus became known for its dance bops, thanks to the success of Fuego in 2018. I have mixed feelings about it, because while Fuego was good, a mix of the fan-hype thinking it "should've won" and RIK's attempts to replicate its success leaves a bit of a sour taste. Since Cyprus is riding on a six-year qualification streak, hopefully they diversify it to keep it alive!

"Muchas gracias, Marty. Hola, Nueva Yorka! Vos quiero muchá!"  says the Princess.

"Has estando viajando por las estaciones de radio, hablando con gente y cantando nuevas canciones. Que clase de reaccion tu viste?" says Marty.

"First, can I speak in English?" the Princess asks.

"Yeah, sure. But I t‘ought you was fluent in Spanish," Marty says.

"Yeah, but our Spanish is not exactly the same as yours and I get confused and confuse everybody. Also, we decided I would sing in English and speak English so everyone can understand. ‘cos me Guatemalan people need all the help they can get!" the Princess says.

"OK, sure. I understand," Marty says.

"Bu' I'll answer your question now," the Princess says. "Yes, the reaction's been great. Talkin' directly to fans and other people. I never dreamed it! Sometimes you get the odd one out but me Uncle, the Barrister in London, told me to be in the business you have to get a rhino's hide. You cannot let anything hurt you."

"OK and do you have a new song for us today?" Marty says.

"Ciertamente!"  the Princess says.

"Ciertamente y cual es el nombre?" Marty says.

"It's name is 'Little Guerrilla' o en espanol 'Guerrillita','" says the Princess.

"OK, adelante!"  says Marty.

"Gracias!"  the Princess says.

The band strikes up a reggae beat, the Princess playing the electric piano in chords. The video below is one of the best examples of the genre.

"Hay ninas asi en Guatemala, peleando en la selva?" Marty asks.

"Not many, I think," the Princess says. "But there are some. People from Guatemala come to Crummer Canyon and tell us what’s goin' on there. One bloke showed me a photo of a li'l girl in a red cap and really common clothes carryin' an armalite. He told me she was one. He called her "un' otra princesita".

The Princess giggles.

"Pero la nenita en la cancion, no le gustan las armas,"  says Marty.

"Yeah, that were my idea," says the Princess. "Li'l kids carryin' guns, that picture's off. People wouldn't like it and couldn't believe it. But this li'l one who can kill a man by surprise with a knife, just because he'd never dream that was what she would do. That's believable and sort o' more interesting, innit?"

"Eso es cierta. Y los hombres que te dicen lo que está pasando en Guatemala. Qué dicen ahora? " Marty asks.

"All the news out o' home is bad," the Princess says. "First, they showed us videos: airplanes droppin' firebombs on villages and burnin' up the houses and the kiddies. People marchin' in the city and soldiers mowin' 'em down rapid fire with machine guns and even planes. Then they tell us the shelves are empty in the shops. People were down to eatin' tortillas and frijoles but now the frijoles are too expensive and too hard to find. The Presidenta gave the campesinos land and the Army chased them away, killed half of 'em and gave the land back to the ladinos. It goes on and on. Then they attacked Belize and lost a whole lot of soldiers there. They were our neighbours now they're our enemies. On and on. But . . ."

"Qué ?" Marty says.

"I've go' a scoop . . . special for you lot," the Princess says. "Me bessie Antony always loves when I do this."

"Quién es Antony?" Marty asks.

"He's the top entertainment reporter for Topzine," the Princess says. "He loves when I give him a scoop!"

"Quieres decir una primicia?  Algunas noticias que nadie más conoce? " Marty says.

"Sí,"  the Princess says. " You're the first in America to know this I think. Well, I was, but you're next. You and all your listeners."

"Qué ?" Marty says.

"We've got a leader now," says the Princess. "It's what we've needed. He's the Presidenta's cousin. He was a General  but he's been hiding in the jungle with his bessies since the Presidenta was murdered. They've been trainin' and gettin' ready. Now they're ready and we're gonna use the Freedom Fund ta fill 'em full o' food, clothes, medicines, guns, bullets, rockets: anything they need. The leader is named Xihualtepec, like the Presidenta was: so they call him 'Comandante X'. I have a video of him saying that the junta are all traitors and he's going to put them against the wall for fusilamiento. And may God speed that day! First, they're goin' up to Belize to help the people there win their freedom and then the Belize people will help us win ours."

"Ahora te gustaría recivir algunas llamadas de los oyentes?"  Marty says.

"I'd love it!" says the Princess. "Let's hear from them."

"Primo de Bronx. Teodoro?"  Marty says.

"Sí,"  Teodoro says. "Princesita. Solo quiero decir que admiro tu coraje. A tu edad, lo que estas haciendo. Haciendo frente a una dictadura brutal. Rezo por ti y por los guatemaltecos."

"Muchas gracias, señor," the Princess replies. "Pisto es importante pero oraciones igalmente. No m'admira. Ayuda a los chapinos. Puedo hago tan poco. Vosotros, la fuerza, hagan todo. For the English people listening, I said money is important but we need prayers equally. Don't admire me, help the Guatemalan people. I can do so little. You, the power of the mobilised youth, do everything."

"Siguiente, Marcelina?"  Marty says.  

"Little Princess, aren't you scared?" Marcelina asks. "Wouldn't those soldiers try to do something to you?"

"No,"  the Princess says. "I thank God and Mother Mary that I am safe in America to do this work. If I had to do this in Guatemala, I'd last all of five minutes. I know nothing they can do to me is worse than what they're doin' to all people of all ages in Guatemala. So why do I deserve any better? If they cry, I can cry too."

"Y siguiente, Paul?" Marty says.

"Bue-nas di-as, prin-cessa. Co-mo es-tas?"  says Paul.

"Oh, there's a Spanish language student!" the Princess says. "We can see one comin' for kilos! It's OK. You can ask in English. It's me first language."

"What do you really want in Guatemala?" Paul asks. "What's the solution there?"

"Easy Manchester caviar that one!" the Princess says. "But yet someone needs to say it out clear like that, 'cos it's so obvious people can miss it. First, there's Comandante X's solution: stand the junta in front of a wall and shoot them down. They dunno' deserve to live. That will make the people free. Then we canno’ get the Presidenta back from Heaven, where I'm sure she is, but have another election. Maybe Comandante X can stand in place of his cousin. He - or somebody - can help the poor, the black people, the Mayans, the campesinos and the trabajadores like the Presidenta did. Give them land, food, enough money, medicine, schools, water, toilets, everything they really need. So they can live like we do. That would be a beautiful thing. Everyone would come back to Guatemala and live happily like we used to."

U prvoj polovini godine objavljeno je previše dobre glazbe i izvrsnih albuma. Od te sveukupne količine tek sam neki manji dio uspio kvalitetno presluštati, no ima tih nekoliko koje i dalje slušam i za koje mogu reći da su najbolji.

Lista nema nikakvog specifičnog poretka, već slijedi neki tok uma kako sam ih krenuo izdvajati i zapisivati.

Hand Habits - Wildly Idle (Humble Before The Void) [Woodsist]

Glavna i odgovorna za ovaj divan album i bend je Meg Duffy, multi-instrumentalistica sa sjevera New YorkA. Album “Wildy Idle (Humble Before The Void)” zbirka je nježnih pjesama koje poput razglednica u njezin život traže svoje primatelje među svima nama. Mene je pronašla. Osim što snima sa i nastupa u pratećim sastavima Kevina Morbya i Mega Bog, Duffy je ove godine objavila album koji je daleko zanimljiviji i snažniji od albuma bendova u kojima djeluje. Scenama podijeljen u tri dijela, Meg Duffy svoj je debitanski album majstorski izvela i što se produkcije tiče.

Bitipatibi - Lešnici divlji 2 [Bitipatibi]

Drugi album benda Bitipatibi čekali smo nešto više od tri godine, a čekanje se isplatilo. Una Gašić vratila se s novim pjesmama i nešto drugačijim zvukom, možda malo “noćnijim” od onog na prvom studijskom albumu dok pojedine pjesme teže prema mainstream pop glazbi. I dalje Bitipatibi ostaje jedan od rijetkih bendova s takozvane regionalne scene koji definitivno zna što radi i jedan od bendova koji prije svega ima jako dobre pjesme. Na albumu “Lešnici divlji 2” našle su se i neke koje smo mogli uživo slušati na koncertima, te nova verzija pjesme “Lešnici divlji”. Kako je to Domagoj Šiljeg rekao, Bitipatibi je beogradski (dream) pop dragulj.

Stef Chura - Messes [Urinal Cake Records]

Ove godine pojavilo se relativno dosta novih imena u svijetu glazbe koji sa svojim debitantskim albumima oduševljavaju. Stef Chura dolazi iz Detroita, grada koji nije toliko poznat po rock koliko po elektronskoj glazbi. Album “Messes” upravo je još jedan album prvijenac koji dokazuje kako je u suštini manje važno mjesto u kojem se stvara glazba već da su bitne emocije i energija koju određena glazbenica, glazbenik ili bend ulaže u stvaranje pjesama. Kombinacija rock glazbe kakvu smo mogli slušati 90-tih godina prošlog stoljeća i moderne interpretacije iste pokazali su se kao pogodak, u srž stvari. Stef Chura radi ono što što je Charlyn Marshall radila u ranije spomenutom desetljeću i sudeći prema pjesama na ovom albumu mislim da od nje možemo očekivati puno odlične glazbe i u budućnosti.

Tornado Wallace - Lonely Planet [Running Back]

Prvi studijski album Lewisa Daya pod aliasom Tornado Wallace stigao je tek sedam godina nakon izdanja prvog singla u 2010. godini. Moram priznati da sam za njega saznao negdje sredinom prošle godine te da sam diskografiju krenuo retrogradno istraživati tek nakon izdanja ovog fantastičnog debitantskog albuma. Tornado Wallace u proteklih je sedam godina prošao kroz razne žanrove elektronske glazbe, dok je sama zbirka pjesama na albumu “Lonely Planet” itekako kompaktna i moćna. Ovo nije nužno plesna elektronska glazba već odlična glazba koje svoje mjesto pronalazi u svakom ili bilo kojem trenutku, a isto tako moguće i na ponekom plesnom podiju.

Svemirko - Vanilija [više manje zauvijek]

Zanemarite nepotizam i moju pristranost prema Svemirku, no činjenica je da je Marko Vuković ove godine objavio najbolji album u cijelom regionu. “Vanilija” je od prve do zadnje pjesme fantastična, a prema reakcijama slušateljstva može se zaključiti da je album bio dugo isčekivan. Kako je kritika pisala o tome da je album “retro” te da se oslanja na zvuk 80-tih godina prošlog stoljeća, dužan sam pojasniti kako se ovdje ne radi o nikakvoj retro glazbi već o izričaju koju Vukoviću najbolje leži. Istina je da album zvuči kao niti jedan drugi objavljen u novije vrijeme, te da su sve pjesme redom hitovi. Možda upravo to asocira na neka prošla vremena kada je pop glazba bila takva i kada su glazbenici radili plesnu pop glazbu s kojom se i šire slušateljstvo moglo poistovjetiti. “Vanilija” je upravo pop glazba kakva bi trebala biti.

Strand Of Oaks - Hard Love [Dead Oceans]

Izgleda da je šesti studijski album Timothy Showaltera pun pogodak. Prethodni, iako su svi redom solidni, nisu me se pretjerano dojmili odnosno nekako su mi djelovali generički. Na “Hard Love” Showalter se oslanja na klasičnu rock formu s primjesama modernog što mu itekako dobro leži. Album od prve do zadnje pjesme djeluje kompaktno i snažno, a pojedine pjesme zvuče poput najfinijih stadionskih rock uspješnica. Možda je to i ključno za ovaj album kojim je Showalter napravio solidan pomak od klasičnog indie rocka prema upravo spomenutom stadionskom rocku prošaranom psych utjecajima.

Nite Jewel - Real High [Gloriette Records]

Ramona Gonzalez kao Nite Jewel glazbu je počela izdavati 2008. godine i već iste godine objavila je svoj debitanski album. Zapazio sam je neke četiri godine nakon, kada je objavila svoj drugi studijski album za etiketu Secretly Canadian. Prošle godine obavila je treći studijski album te fantastičan kolaboracijski EP koji je zajedno s Dam-Funkom objavila pod imenom Nite-Funk, dok je ove godine objavila svoj četvrti studijski album. Od prve do zadnje pjesme u svakom pogledu izvrstan spoj suvremenog R&B-a te synth-pop glazbe, savršen upravo za vruće ljeto, lagan večernji povjetarac i vožnju praznim ulicama grada.

Milk Music - Mystic 100’s [Dom America]

Svake godine samo je jedan rokenrol album godine, a iako je tek pola godine iza nas “Mystic 100’s” može se smatrati upravo takvim. Moram odmah priznati da sam veliki obožavatelj benda i u osnovi pristran. To nikako ne umanjuje činjenicu da je Milk Music odličan bend sastavljen od izvanrednih glazbenika, a nisam siguran da trenutno postoji zanimljivija grupa u žanru. Aranžmanski pjesme su raznolike, melodije nježne, žestoke i sjetne, atmosfera isprekidana ponekad i neurotična, sve zajedno divna ploča posvećena majci Zemlji i svim ozbiljnim slušateljima svugdje.

Hovvdy - Taster [Double Double Whammy]

Iako je album obavljen prošle godine, tek je ove dobio svoje zasluženo i ozbiljno reizdanje na ploči, CDu i kazeti. Hovvdy je trojka koju su osnovala dva prijatelja inače bubnjara, dok se njihova glazba može okarakterizirati kao minimalan soft rock. To su sve redom donekle jednostavne pjesme, nepretenciozne i poprilično lo-fi producirane. Ima nešto moćno u svemu tome, a možda je baš ta jednostavnost ono što je mene kupilo na prvu. Danas, nakon nekoliko desetaka slušanja albuma u cijelosti i dalje ne posustaje moj entuzijazam prema ovom bendu iz Austina u Texasu dok njihove nove pjesme očekujem s nestrpljenjem.

Grandaddy - Last Place [30th Century Records / Columbia]

Jedanaest godina nakon albuma “Just Like The Fambly Cat” Grandaddy se vratio na velika vrata s fantastičnim povratničkim albumom. Da stvari budu jasne, Grandaddy jedan je od mojih omiljenih bendova svih vremena. “Last Place” nastavlja tamo gdje je pretposljednji album stao, a to je teritorij koji niti jedan drugi bend do sada nije uspio osvojiti. Pop rock koji se oslanja na sintesajzere i električne gitare kao glavne melodijske instumente, humanoidni robot Jed o kojem se pjeva i na ovom albumu, čine ovaj album još jednim od Grandaddy klasika. Možda je to Lytleov glas, možda je to forma aranžmana, a možda su to priče koje Grandaddy uspijeva izvrsno prenest u oblik zvučnog zapisa.

Galatheia - Metropol [PMG Recordings]

Projekt iza kojeg stoji mlada i izuzetno nadarena glazbenica i producentica Tea Šaldeva jedno je od najvećih ovogodišnjih osvježenja iz zemalja bivše države. Na albumu “Metropol” sudjelovali su Siniša Evtimov i Mirko Popov, a objavljen je na najvažnijoj makedonskoj glazbenoj etiketi zahvaljujući čemu sam ga i uspio zapaziti. Ovaj album vjerojatno je i jedan od najhrabrijih uradaka današnjice pošto se radi o definitivno izvrsnoj odluci Šaldeve da ga opjeva na svom materinjem jeziku. Žanrovski gledano, radi se o elektronskoj plesnoj glazbi koja je u suštini kombinacija ambijentalne elektronike, broken downbeata i deep techna kakav smo do sada mogli čuti isključivo iz ostatka svijeta, produciranog od strane najzanimljivijih producenata suvremene glazbe.

Emma Ruth Rundle & Jaye Jayle - The Time Between Us [Sargent House]

Rundle je prošle godine imala najsnažniji album, dok je ove zajedno s Jaye Jayle objavila ponovo jedno malo remek djelo. Na ovom izdanju od ukupno šest pjesama, tri Emme Ruth Rundle, ne treba zanemariti niti fantastične tri pjesme benda Jaye Jayle koje ne zaostaju u nikojem pogledu. Sve pjesme bave se nekim intimnim ispovjestima autora, moglo bi se zaključiti kako se ovdje radi o pjesmama nastalim na samom rubu ponora. Jer što je život nego i sve ono dobro i sve zlo koje nam život stavlja na put.

Dimples - Whimpers [Nicey Music / Feeding Tube Records / Dontrustheruin / Laughable Recordings]

Na album koji su zajedno objavile čak četiri etikete naletio sam zahvaljujući Goldmine Sacksu koji stoji iza kolumne Week In Pop na Impose Magazine. “Whimpers” je možda i najčudniji album koji sam čuo ove godine, odnosno koji i dalje slušam, a Dimples jedan od najzanimljivijih novih bendova. U opisu albuma na internetima stoji kako pjesme imaju kvalitete uspavanki koje transportiraju slušatelje u neko duboko mjesto imeđu sna i jave, a istina nije daleko od toga. Ili su Dimples izuzetno opušteni što se glazbenog izričaja tiče ili ih uopće nije briga, ili pak uživaju određene supstance, no jedno je sigurno, a to je da ovaj album zove iznova i ponovo na preslušavanja.

Anamai - What Mountain [Halocline Trance]

Projekt odnosno duo čine Anna Mayberry i David Psutka koji stoji iza aliasa Egyptrixx, ove je godine objavio fantastičan pastoralan folk eksperimentatorski album. Ne mogu a da ne spomenem trio Timber Rattle, na koji me Anamai jako podsjeća, no ovdje se ipak radi o nešto drugačijoj glazbi. Dok se glazba Timber Rattle oslanja na višeslojne odnosno višeglazne vokalne melodije i klasične instumente poput gitare, sintesajzera i minimalističnog seta perkusija, Anamai se također može opisati višeglasnim vokalnim melodijama, no vjerojatno zbog utjecaja Psutke, glazba je bazirana na sintesajzerima i okrenuta prema drone izričaju. Pjesme Anamai intimne su ispovjesti uokvirene beskrajnim prostorom, osobne istine projektirane u obliku trodimenzionalnog zvuka.

Peaking Lights - The Fifth State Of Consciousness [Two Flowers Records]

Indra Dunis i Aaron Coyes supružnici su koji skoro cijelo jedno desetljeće stvaraju zajedno glazbu temeljenu na dub formi, a ono što nam serviraju kao finalan proizvod najfiniji je psihodelični pop. Na album “The Fifth State Of Consciousness” čekali smo tri godine, a Peaking Lights su nas iznenadili objavivši dupli LP/CD s povećom količinom odličnih pjesama. I dalje se drže svog prepoznatljivog zvuka koji su itekako dobro definirali i koji vjerojatno nitko ne može reproducirati, što ih čini jednim od najzanimljivijih suvremenih bendova današnjice. Ukratko, savršen album za ljeto 2017.

Dion Lunadon - Dion Lunadon [Agitated Records]

Već se prošle godine singlom “Com/Broke” dalo naslutiti kako će Dion Lunadon napraviti fantastičan album. I upravo se to desilo. Basist jednog od meni najdražih bendova svih vremena, A Place To Bury Strangers, na svojem je debitantskom albumu objavio je jedanaest moćnih pjesama koje žanrovski i stilski ne odudaraju puno od matičnog benda. Dion Lunadon poprilična je “njuška” i dosta zajeban lik koji se u niti jednom trenutku ne zajebava već živi tu glazbu koju i svira. A ako Milk Music ima rockenrol album godine, onda Lundon ima noise i psychedelic rock album godine, što zbog moći i energije pohranjene u pjesmama, a što zbog izuzetnog studijskog posla koji je na ovom albumu evidentan.

(Sandy) Alex G - Rocket [Domino Recording Co.]

Alex Giannascoli multi-instrumentalist je iz Philadelphije, a kao Alex G objavio je šest albuma dok je posljednji, sedmi po redu studijski album naslova “Rocket” obavio pod novim aliasom. Giannascoli je klasičan singer-songwriter koji je kroz svoju karijeru evoluirao do jednog od najzanimljivijih autora modernog doba, a ono što ovaj album izdvaja su aranžmani i inventivnost koju ne pronalazim često kod drugih singer-songwritera. Na albumu se većinom nalaze nježne pjesme koje prilikom slušanja odvode u razne krajeve unutrašnjosti uma te koje odišu optimizmom na jedan drugačiji i nenametljiv način.

Crvi - Piše nam se dobro [više manje zauvijek]

Beogradska grupa Crvi predvođena glavnim autorom Damjanom Babićem početkom ove godine objavila je svoj debitantski album “Piše nam se dobro”, a ono što ovaj album čini jednim od najboljih činjenica je da Babić itekako zna napisati odlične alt rock pjesme. Ovdje također zanemarite nepotizam i jednostavno se posvetite slušanju, uronite u sirovu produkciju kakvu rijetko možete pronaći u “domaćoj” glazbi, jer ono što ćete pronaći su izvrsne melodije i pjesme u kojima se isprepliću elementi noise i pop rocka.

Fuego - Canciones de Emergencia (Full Album)

Este disco nace bajo la necesidad de acompañar el movimiento social ocurrido en Chile en Octubre de 2019 en el Taller de Música y Letra de Balmaceda Arte Joven. A partir de un ejercicio de la clase apareció esta música que contenía el mismo elemento en todas sus letras, el fuego. Estas composiciones fueron creadas por los alumnes del taller y la profesora Yorka Pastenes con el fin de entregar canciones para acompañar esto días de lucha y dar voz a las millones de personas que nos estamos manifestando por una mejor calidad de vida en nuestro país. 

Agradecimientos a Giovanni Brizzolari por el registro, mezcla y grabación de este álbum en los estudios de Balmaceda Arte Joven.

Clásicos Instantáneos: Nuevos sonidos chilenos

Es impresionante darse cuenta la marea alta de sonidos y proyectos que pululan en la actualidad en Chile, sobre todo en ciudades como Santiago, Concepción, Valparaíso y Valdivia. En ese sentido, no es gratuito afirmar que el país sudamericano es hoy por hoy una de las escenas más fértiles del continente, reflejo innegable del inmejorable momento social, político y cultural por el que transitan. Aquí enlistamos algunos ejemplos que aportan ideas, frescura y pasión al alucinante y vasto cancionero de su patria.

Humo de Yorka

El proyecto de las hermanasYorka y Daniela Pastenes se desliza hacia un rock pop de suaves maneras y elaboradas melodías en el que sus bellas voces juegan armónicamente. Debutaron discográficamente en 2013 con Canciones en pijama. Dos años más tarde dieron a conocer Imperio. Pero sin duda es Humo su racimo de cancionesmás logrado. Dieciséis tracks en los que ellas exhiben la plasticidad de una propuesta salpicada de geniales guiños de imaginación, donde lo mismo se respiran atmósferas nostálgicas (“Humo”) que otras de liberación (“Estáticos”) o misterio sentimental (“Y Bailamos Tanto”), las que indistintamente fructifican o bien con un desnudo arpegio de guitarras acústicas, como pasa en “Catemito”, o bien con una refinada instrumentación eléctrica. Un álbum delicioso a cualquier hora del día.

Lance de Niños del Cerro

Es otra de las contundentes propuestas musicales que arroja la etiqueta Quemasucabeza —que en 2018 llegó a dos décadas de exitosa actividad—. Si se tiene a la mano el CD del quinteto valdiviano, se podrá leer el sabroso texto de Julio Saavedra que define su propuesta. En éste se escribe: “Niños del Cerro se debate entre buscar al oído o hacerle la vida difícil para que ponga más atención.” Lo suyo va en esa idea de electricidad como estandarte y abrigo de letras que buscan conectar con la conciencia de sus escuchas, desde una esquina donde las fórmulas se abolen y se persigue la originalidad, dando continuidad a la longeva tradición del rock, el latino y el de más allá, pero creando un lenguaje propio, sofisticado e intenso.

Arriba Es Abajo de Chini and The Technicians

Mucha de la fuerza que hay en el proyecto fundado por María José Ayarza y Roberto González, está en el carisma y la chispa creativa de ella, “Chini”, aunada a la inconformidad musical de él, lo que permite a su música deambular por distintas vertientes y reinventarse en cada track. Arriba Es Abajo resulta ser una ecléctica caja de Pandora llena de sorpresas en la que no faltan rutinas indie pop, desplantes rock y experimentación. Para constatarlo baste escuchar “Fiesta de despedida” esa balada de tono acústico en contraposición con la mucho más intensa y elaborada “Imagen”, o la divertida y juguetona “Pirita”. Un disco que más que buscar una sonoridad opta por mostrar que también desde la diversidad puede afianzarse un estilo. Chini and The Technicians son parte del boyante sello Uva Robot que cuenta con talentos como Niña Tormenta y Diego Lorenzini a los que asimismo hay que seguirles la huella.

ANAMED müdavimlerince en çok tercih edilen Bizans kitapları

Naz Baydar - ANAMED Birim Kütüphanecisi

“İstanbul'un kargaları İstanbul kadar kocaman

Bağırmak denen bir adam saltanatını kurmuş burada Birçok şarkının ortasında yürürken İstiklal Caddesi Tomtom Mahallesi'ne taşıyor beni” 1

Bugün birçok araştırmacının uğrak yeri Tomtom Mahallesi’ndeki ANAMED Kütüphanesi’ne benim yolum henüz acemi bir kütüphaneci olmadan önce, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’nde Bizans Tarihi üzerine yüksek lisans yaparken düştü. Üniversitenin kütüphanesi yeterince kaynağa sahipti; lakin yeni çıkmış kitapları ya da belli konularda kitapları bulmakta zorlanıyordum. ARIT, Arnavutköy’de, evimin dibindeydi ama benim için fazla sessiz sakin bir yerdi (çalış, çalış nereye kadar?). İstanbul Araştırmaları Enstitüsü’nü ise utanarak söylüyorum ki biraz geç keşfettim (ANAMED Kütüphanesi’ne dadandıktan sonra). İstiklal Caddesi’nde konferansları beklerken sıcak, rahat koltuklarda ders çalışabileceğim, asistanlığını yaptığım HIST 105-106 derslerinin hazırlık notlarını çalışabileceğim, arada da tabiri caizse “goygoy yapabileceğim” bir kütüphane ararken çıktı karşıma ANAMED Kütüphanesi. Tabi ki şartlarım uygun olduğu için sağ olsun eski kütüphanecimiz Akın (Özarslantürk) beni hemen üye yaptı (sonra da bin pişman olmuştur herhalde bitmek bilmeyen isteklerim yüzünden, siz siz olun bana uymayın efendim…) ve benim ANAMED Kütüphanesi ile olan gönül bağım böyle son derece pragmatik sebeplerle başlamış oldu.

Zamanla kütüphaneyi gerçek “kutsal” akademik amaçlarla (yazamadığım tezime selam ederim) ve kitaplarından faydalandığım bir “kütüphane” olarak kullanmaya başladım.  A. Kazhdan, J. Haldon, S. Mitchell, T. Gregory, P. Brown, Averil Cameron, David Talbot Rice, Dimitri Obolensky, Donald Nicol John Meyendorff, Margaret Mullett, Liz James, Nikolaos Oikonomides, Peter Charanis, Robert Browning, Speros Vryonis, Steven Runciman, Walter Kaegi, Wolfgang Müller, Paul Magdalino, Anthony Bryer, Judith Herrin, Andrew Dalby, Henry Maguire, Lynda Garland, Barbara Hill gibi birçok tarihçinin (ismini unuttuklarım umarım gece rüyalarıma girmez ve bunun hesabını sormazlar benden) kitaplarını bulabiliyordum burada çünkü burası bir alan kütüphanesiydi. Özellikle Anna Muthesius’un kitaplarını (tekstil çalışanların çok iyi bildiği bir isimdir kendileri) burada bulmam beni buraya adeta bağladı, kütüphanenin müdavimi haline getirdi.

Hayatın bana hazırladığı ve hayatımı değiştiren küçük sürprizle müdavimi olduğum kütüphanede artık bir kullanıcı olarak kırmızı koltuklarda değil, kütüphaneci olarak “daha konforlu” siyah koltukta oturuyorum. Kütüphaneye alınabilecek ve koleksiyonda mutlaka olması gereken Bizans kitaplarını araştırıp, kütüphanenin koleksiyonunu zenginleştirmekle uğraşıyorum, kütüphanede mutlaka olması gereken kitapları buluyorum ve bundan inanılmaz keyif alıyorum. Hal böyle olunca acaba Bizansperver araştırmacılar ve tarihçiler hangi kitaplarımızı kurcalamış diye merak ettim ve bu kitapları sevgili kullanıcılarımız için yemedim içmedim listeledim. İşte kütüphanemizden en çok ödünç alınan Bizans tarihi kitapları (parantez içinde kitapların ödünç alınma sayıları var):

Bizans tarihi alanında, içlerinde politika, ekonomi, sosyal cinsiyet, yemek, kültür, din, diplomasi, edebiyat ve daha nice tarih alt disiplinlerindeki yayınları barındıran Steven Runciman, Jacques Lefort, Slobodan ĆurčiĆ, Eunice Dauterman Maguire & Henry Maguire, Anthony Bryer özel koleksiyonlarına sahip ANAMED Kütüphanesi, koleksiyonunu geliştirmek için müdavimlerin kitap önerilerini bekliyor.
