I think some people may not know that JWHJ0715 is a stage name? Like its used pretty much everywhere for Matteo's filmography and even in his wikipedia page pretty exclusively, so no one gets the symbolism he was going for? Its a theme in a lot of his works; you can see it in his screenplay adaptation Governance of The French Lieutenant's Woman (not to be confused with the film of the same name by Harold Pinter), and the much less popular Goncharov. Both have a romantic lead as the main focus of the story, as a microcosm of the larger social transformations taking place and have a focus on time/stopwatches/clocks. His thing with numbers.

Right, so his like, the name he was born with, was Matteo Yonā-Jyotish De Luca. Bit of a mouthful. The Italian names are front and back, but the middle is for both grandparents, Jewish on his mothers parent's side (Yonā=Jonah=Dove) and Bihar Hindi for his father's (Jyotish=Astrology/Moon). This is great and all but where am I going with this? Well, like the sane man we all know him to be, Matteo got big into spiritualism/numerology. I feel like I could leave it there and you'd be able to pick up the gist of it but yeah.

For Gift of God Dove Moon Moon Light Giver, two layers of meaning is not enough. So he went and numerologied his name.  JWHJ0715 contains the name of God, the sacred numbers associated with his names, half a star coordinate for the Hindi zodiac, and a secret forth thing that might have just been a snipe hunt. The name respected his audience enough to make them figure things out.

I could go into the interrelationship of animal symbology, light and darkness, the Apple (see the titular Apple scene in Goncharov for a rare on screen occurrence of this theme), both astronomy and astrology, but I felt like simply pointing out the basics would get people interested and they could go see the scholarship already done by the film buffs in Guiding the Eye, by Simone Terperry and Sarah Terperry, which has a big overview section about all of JWHJ0715′s films that connects the dots much better then I could.

Sooooo yeah. Big mystery I solved there that didn't need solving. Well done everyone hit the showers.
