now hear me out,,, an au where lan wangji is an editor who works for an erotica publisher and wei wuxian is essentially chuck tingle. (also lwj writes romance novels on the side)

wei wuxian didn’t plan to write erotica he wants to make that really clear, he was actually studying like biomed or something equally “oh wow my parents can brag to the other parents about this”

why is my silent video game protagonist a catboy. it’s funny to me how much personality he manages to have despite being. yknow. a blank slate to project on. charisma! the dialogue options when you’re talking to shadows that are like “girl power!” live in my mind. joker is a girlboss to me. feminism win

he has not joined the team yet but he obviously will. i have not seen much of him yet but i do have many opinions. i did know he was this games komaeda archetype before playing because of the sheer amount of arguing i can vaguely remember scrolling past about him but even if i didn’t i would’ve instantly been able to tell. he’s fake as hell. i lose it every other sentence whenever he’s on screen WHO IS THIS GUY. “thesis antithesis *pretentious stuff*” “woowwwww you’re so interesting ^-^” “woahh look we happen to have met waiting for the train teehee” (whenever he pops up in those train scenes it feels like a jumpscare) there is a high percentage chance that i will like this guy a lot. there is a precedent for me really liking that sort of character and he is very entertaining. i hope he is just so unhinged. i mean there’s like a 99% chance he’s the ~mysterious guy causing all the accidents~ and also the “heh kid u were betrayed by one of your own” guy. so. he gives me the vibes of one of those really tiny cutesy dogs who are just incredibly aggressive. funny to me how ryuji hates him to an absurd degree like buddy chilll yeah he sucks but wowww. i LOVE that stupid doodle of him on the classroom chalkboard. the anime sparkles. his hair is ugly btw. we met on 6/9 which turns me into a 12 year old. i enjoyed our silly little tv debate

sldkfj hey this is dumb i was the anon talking about willow from earlier and i was gonna respond in an ask but it turns out i have a lot! of feelings about this topic! and i didn’t want to send you a bunch of asks bc when that happens to me i get anxiety. so!

that’s a really fair point about xander! as the only one of the og scoobies to not have (or gain) Powers later on, i do think moments where he gets to be the hero are important. i really wish he had been utilized more as a strategist? anyway. honestly a big portion of my issues with xander being the one to give buffy cpr is that it in the context of the episode it feels like he’s being. idk. rewarded? he handles buffy’s rejection of him… poorly, both with her, and later with willow.i don’t really mind this - he’s a 16 year old, and i don’t think that reaction was necessarily out of character for him - but when he gets to step in at the end and save buffy (especially when it’s put against buffy’s love interest, who can’t), it feels like he’s being rewarded, yknow? and that lack of consequences for the way he treats buffy (esp. re: angel) is something we see more of in s2 (which, especially after innocence, feels so incredibly mean-spirited), so i kinda balk at it on instinct.

my main argument for willow giving her cpr is that we’ve seen willow really gain self-confidence since ‘welcome to the hellmouth’. “you think i want to go to the dance with you and watch you wish you were at the dance with her? […] you should know better.” she’s standing up for herself! and while she’ll get a chance to do something Big for the plot like this in becoming 2, her restoring angel’s soul feels kind of undercut by the fact that buffy still has to kill him. so imo willow giving buffy cpr in prophecy girl would have been a really nice way to highlight the way she’s gaining the confidence to act on her own.

giles also would have been good, but honestly kinda love the idea of jenny giving her cpr? so much of giles’s development in the early seasons is him realizing that what the council says is best for the slayer is not necessarily what is best for buffy (and then having to grapple with the fall out of caring about her as a daughter and a slayer). so i think if giles and jenny had gone after her, giles would have found her and been devastated and very guilty, but like… this was what happened. the prophecy had said the slayer would die, and he couldn’t find a way around it, so it came to pass, and that’s it.

but jenny’s character has always been about challenging and expanding traditional understandings of magic, and integrating modern knowledge into old beliefs. in that same vein, i don’t think jenny would really see buffy as The Slayer yet - in canon giles had only told her like, a few hours prior? - so where giles sees the outcome of a prophecy he failed to stop, she sees a teenager that could maybe still be saved, and acts accordingly.

i also think this would add an interesting wrinkle to giles and jenny’s relationship in s2. like, 'you saved someone i care about a lot and i’m profoundly grateful’ but also 'you had to step in and do my job for me, and i feel weird and inadequate because of it’

going to respond to these EXCELLENT thoughts under the cut!

oh you are ABSOLUTELY correct that within canon it would honestly have been better as Anyone But Xander like nvlkshs i hope i did convey that point in my original ask. and i do kinda like the thought of like .... from xander’s pov, willow becoming this Indisputably Important person to buffy in the same way he wanted to be? like especially within the context of the fucking awful way he treated willow all through the first season, because watching her pine over him and him dismiss and belittle her was so damn painful. so thank you for that thought because it honestly would’ve changed the entire thematic impact of xander’s behavior -- it’s a representation of the fact that if you treat girls as objects of desire, you’re never going to actually Get The Girl. i like that as a message.

and !!!!!! jenny!!!! i think that could also be a good idea because she’s someone who’s just TOTALLY distant from the scoobies, so there could be that feeling from giles of “she doesn’t know what she’s doing, and she only defied prophecy because she’s an outsider who doesn’t understand the role of a watcher the way i do.” so season two giles and jenny might take on a super different bend of mingled combativeness and budding attraction -- like kind of a slow burn that’s got more of the angry energy of i robot, you jane than the gentle sweetness of early-s2 dorky calendiles. lots of reboot comics energy where jenny sees buffy as a teenager and giles thinks that this is a dangerous way to look at the situation (because in a lot of ways he’s desensitized himself to the horror of the situation).

to some degree my frustration with the narrative comes from xander just .... theoretically continually being allowed to Be Terrible to the women in his life and face literally no consequences. he cheats on cordelia, he guilts buffy, he strings willow along until he finds better options, and i cannot even TALK about anya without absolutely flipping my lid. but i love him so much in the reboot comics -- they took some of the more fascinating aspects of his character (his insecurity, his self-hatred, his feeling that he’s the “useless one”) and played THOSE up instead of leaning into toxic masculinity. a narrative where xander’s allowed to, like, actually not be a dick is something that always has a soft spot in my heart, so like ... i like that it’s xander (in theory) but i hate that it’s xander (in practice, bc that potential never gets utilized within tv canon) and you make some fucking good points about it not being xander that i very much enjoy.

can we talk about ryan?? can we talk about andrew motherfucking ryan and how well that character was written? because holy fuck

i don't know man. there's just something i find incredibly interesting about him. i know that a lot of people dislike the bioshock novel ( which is valid, no hate here ) but i think it gives us plenty of insights into what the characters were like before actual game events and it does this the most for probably ryan and fontaine, but we aren't going to talk about the bastard here. no okay we're focusing on ryan

dude was fucking PASSIONATE. you get that little glimpse of trauma in his childhood, and from then on he's this sort of excited businessman who absolutely cannot contain his excitement about his little project. it's almost childlike and i love it so much. like the scene in the plane with bill?? god. he's so fucking happy! this is his dream! come to life!! he was so convicted about this, so convinced that this would be humanity's peak and it makes his fall that much sadder ......

god bless the people on soundcloud who made the book into an audio drama because... oh my god. ohhhh my god. it goes from :] to a tired, wire-tight voice as the small problems arise, and then there's a specific shift in ryan's voice between part one and two, where he just. oh man i hardly know how to describe it but that's when the anger and ruthlessness start to seep in and he starts to REALLY tunnel vision on this dream of his, to the point where he's destroying it without even knowing

and you get these insights into his relationships, not just with jasmine but with diane as well ( what's the one tape in bioshock 2?? the one where he talks about how diane was mentioning " bearing his heir " or something ) and i just. sit down. because heaven knows he wasn't going to be a good father but he did want kids and i can almost picture the type of dad he would be, probably would've kept that kid and raised them to be just like him. strict but a bit neglectful yknow.

obviously he wanted kids enough to murder jasmine after she sold jack. and then regretted that decision ( there's another audio diary babes! ).... you ever actually LISTEN to that? the very first line just that " i ... visited eve's garden today. " there so much fucking sadness and thinly veiled anger just in that line ALONE

and by then he's made so many mistakes but still believes that the city can thrive. and then it's bioshock and of course you have the in-game events where he comes off as this distant, ruthless dictator ruling from a distance and controlling the entire population ( and this lack of information serves to make atlas look like a better person as well ) BUT as you progress you learn little bits and pieces about him, these little snippets of the past, and he starts crumbling as he realizes who jack is, that he can't be stopped

i have to wonder what triggered him to start constructing that massive theory board in rapture central control. like. did he come across one of those diaries just by chance, and connect it to either what jasmine had done or to atlas' constant use of wyk, or maybe it's just that jack looks enough like either one of his parents to make it. maybe he did it while jack was up in fort frolic

but either way within only a little bit of time he's basically figured it out, and then leaves these little clues just..in his speech. and they seem really out of place at first. but rapture central control is just chocked FULL of clues that nothing is as it seems to be

and then you meet him. and he gifts you ( or curses you ) with the knowledge of what jack is and his past and chooses to die on his own terms ( even if jack's still the one that does the deed ) rather than fall in a meaningless fight. he sets an example with his death, that almost nothing you do has been your choice, and relinquishes the city to his heir

i think the worst. part of this. is later when you're gathering the big daddy suit parts. and you come across the audio diary mistakes

which is, in essence, ryan reflecting on all he's done, and acknowledging full well that he's partially the cause of this, and continuing on anyway, for the sake of a dream that's practically already in shambles. dude was basically broken, a shadow of his former self

he turns out more of an antihero than a real villain and i think it suits him better. he's just so fucking complex and i absolutely love the way he was handled and developed...... probably one of my favourite characters in this entire damn franchise

it’s been a while since i posted about aa but i just finished soj in its entirety tonight. here’s my new list so far

i still have to give thoughts on cases 4 5 and dlc so that’ll be under a cut. spoilers!

6-4: this was such a filler case, almost shamefully so. i don’t know why they thought they could manage to do this in the 4th case when every game with 5 cases has been pretty consistent about making the 4th case plot relevant, sometimes literally just a preamble to case 5. so yeah i think this one was kinda ass

the two things it had going for it: one, athena. in 6-2 i actually got confused about why i ever liked her, because in that case she felt like she was just acting the part of the Peppy Teen Girl With a Rowdy Streak that makes up almost every assistant character. But then as SOON as she started bantering with Simon in 6-4 i was like “oh, THAT’S why i liked her!” was nice to take control of her again.

two, uendo toneido. while i don’t think you can say the DID was portrayed with quite the necessary respect or kindness, it was handled better than i’ve seen other media handle it-- at least it’s not completely demonized. other people have written more on that in better detail so i’m not really the judge, but the basic point is that this witness was mad fun to read, and even the dumb jokes like the changing number of floor cushions were entertaining. thus why this case is in the “hard carried by one side character” tier.

especially since there was like nothing else going on. no connection to the main plot, only two other characters besides uendo, and for some reason the clown tits girl was here instead of the magic show case (and to be honest, she wasn’t enjoyable for me even BEFORE she did the standard aa female villain thing and changed her speech pattern as soon as she fell under suspicion). just a weird, nothing case stuck right around the point aa games usually enter endgame. And especially weird because...

6-5 part 1: inexplicably there are two separate cases in the final chapter and each gets one day of investigation and trial. such a weird setup, and it really shouldn’t work... but i think it kinda barely does. barely. it would still have been better to split it into case 4 and case 5 though.

i have a hard time articulating much on the first case bc it sort of blends together for me. the main thing is that the concept of it being a civil case where apollo and phoenix face off is really good. it was a good change of pace, even though you knew it was gonna be a murder somehow anyway. sarge was reasonably nice, i guess, paul atishon had some good animations and quirks (my favorite being when he tries to just walk away from the stand to avoid answering a question), and the logic of the actual murder was good enough.

but i especially got those strong “oh this is a FINAL case!” vibes during the segment in the cave, and that added so much to it even if not much of it was relevant in the first half of the case. the adventure feel reminded me of some of the (out of context bc i still havent played it) scenes i know from 3-5, which is a good association to invoke imo. and it did a lot to give apollo and dhurke time to bond.

speaking of which, dhurke, holy shit. what a KING. i don’t think i’ve ever liked a dad character in ace attorney this much. he’s so genuine and like down to earth that it’s impossible not to start liking him and believe how much he cares for his sons. the bit where he rescued apollo from the cave flood... i felt it in my heart

6-5 part 2: let me just get this out of the way: ga’ran sucks. her design after she goes full evil is so bad, she’s so malicious that it’s immediately obvious she’s going to be the culprit, her breakdown is ridiculous and just embarrassing to watch, and inga had already established way more charisma as a villain when he did the “those were orders of execution actually” bit in 6-3. with that said,

i actually liked it for the most part. the spirit channeling stuff was excellent imo-- they probably use it to similar or greater effect in 3-5 but as someone who again has not played that, i was surprised and almost impressed by how well it was applied. maya was relevant for something! it feels like it’s been ages!

rayfa was a little underutilized, i think-- her moment of determination where she stops letting ga’ran have control over her was alright but it fell flat bc it didn’t have any weight during the moment. i kept hoping she would like, wordlessly take of her shawl and do the little verbal preamble to the divination seance while ga’ran kept yelling at her to stop, but no, the script can’t be good like that, i guess. and since she didn’t get to be the investigation assistant for long, none of her charm in that role carried through.

but DHURKE!! oh my god! in a game almost devoid of emotional impact, his involvement in this case really hit. the way they painstakingly animated his death, the scene where he makes a promise with maya, and then the weight of knowing in hindsight that everything he did in the first part of the case was after he’d already died and just wanted to see his son again before passing on for real....... it hurt. i felt something during that section. this case would also be hard carried by him if not for the fact that i really liked the murder bits.

amara was good too--liked how they made her suspiciously serene and accentuated it with the lightning strikes to make her look like a hidden murderer character about to reveal herself, only to walk it back and confirm she was being forced to act that way. i thought it worked. nahyuta was boring though, i’m sorry-- i get the motivation with having to be a bastard bc his sister and mom were basically held hostage, but the only time i found him compelling in that mess was the bit where he removed his one fingerless glove and revealed he still has the dragon tattoo. that was it. athena was also completely unused the whole case (not even a single mood matrix? really?) and trucy one again went without any role of importance.

the ending also... yknow, a friend said they had to end it this way bc they never figured out what they were going to do with apollo (since following up on what they started in aa4 clearly wasn’t an option???) and just threw him on a bus to get rid of him. i agree with that-- he really feels thrown to the side, and with that i think trucy’s officially stranded with no hope of any character advancement. and the way they ended the game with phoenix and lamiroir deciding “yeah, maybe NOW we should finally tell those two they’re related” honestly felt insulting lol

but maybe the dlc case will let things go out on a high note...?!

6-6: it was okay.

it would’ve worked pretty well as a filler case in an older aa-- honestly i think it’d be one of the better filler cases, certainly worth replacing the shitty ones like 2-3 or 3-3 or, hey, 6-4. but whether i’d say it was worth paying for... eh.

the time travel conceit was done well enough, i think. the way they tied it back to sorin and pierce’s backstories was nice, and the twist about having two receptions was good, although they needed to treat that as a real twist with much more gravity. when the truth comes out it just feels like “oh of course that’s what happened” rather than a big surprise worthy of the Confessing the Truth theme. it’s sort of important because the case becomes a lot less interesting when you take out the time travel element.

far as characters are concerned, i think they needed more side characters to sell the whole thing-- another sprocket family member or another servant of the household. it felt a little limited-- sorin and pierce are pretty good witnesses and i like their quirks and their secrets, but the only alive woman (ellen) has very few traits and no connection to the deeper story of the case, so she falls really flat. the old aa characters didn’t add much- maya and edgeworth were just there for fanservice, ema didn’t get to do much other than acknowledge for the first time in years that she’s a big edgeworth fan, and larry is annoying as hell like he always is.

and oh my god i actually forgot while i was writing that, how they put in athena and trucy but only used them for brief slapstick where trucy would try to set athena on fire and shit. again-- no mood matrix? couldn’t even try once to fit those two characters into something?

i did like pierce’s transformation into his surgeon form though-- that was really cool. loved him doing surgery on a robot, taking xrays of the lawyers, and his breakdown was fantastic-- he would make a really good culprit if they didn’t whiff the last bit of pathos at the end. i don’t think he should’ve been aiming for revenge on sorin; it would have hurt much more if he was still loyal to the guy and never intended for him to be in danger, but the final “why’d you do it?” talk in the trial just felt flat and one-note, much like the one in 6-4.

... so that’s spirit of justice! not a super positive experience but i’m happy to say it’s done. as much as i want to go and replay dgs, i think when i do go back to ace attorney i’ll be replaying the trilogy for the first time since high school

joy- sleeping at last: i just really love the way emotions are described in the songs on this album (well, except for fear, which has no lyrics and is also not on this playlist). i also just really love The clumsy start of adolescence/The glue that mends our broken remnants/An overwhelming sense of reverence/It's a glimpse of light in a mine of gold for caleb

a new mission- josh whitehouse: ah. this song. this was the song that made this playlist really, really difficult to make, because it was the first song i added and it set a very high bar for literally every other song on the playlist. it just feels so perfect as a caleb song to me, especially early on, when he was still figuring things out and he was constantly overwhelmed by all the feelings around him and in him.

some of these songs are here for tone; the line between what adam would listen to and what helps me draw him is very thin compared to most characters. i did try to make sure they were all songs that fit him at least a little bit, though.

all the kids are depressed- jeremy zucker: i mean. i feel like the title kind of speaks for itself here, honestly. also the lyrics fit pretty well. there isn’t a ton of explaining that needs to be done for this one.

in a week- hozier: you ever just listen to this in a dark room lying on your back with your eyes closed and yeah? because like, i do sometimes, and i kinda feel like adam does too. i needed a hozier song on this playlist and this felt like the most fitting one to add, and a nice subdued end to the playlist.

What do u think of the season in general?

what i thought of the season ?? sweet baby jesus lemme TELL U

i loved it sooo much. i really really love that the season had an even theme and i loved every single episode ( except for doctor cerebrus’ house of horror, that i only liked bc it was like an hour of hypothetics yknow ). i wish that they had focused a little more on sabrina’s feelings for nick because it felt a little one sided at times, and i wish that they would have given a little more depth to roz and harvey’s relationship.

i especially adored episodes that focused on sabrina’s relationships, mainly lupercalia. it was so nice to see more of the witch lore, see development for nick, and see her relationship to roz and nick deepen and gain more texture, that was super nice. then on blackwood,,, blackwood was a Trip, but seeing the Spellmans in conflict was super interesting. we were so used to seeing them always working as a unit, or at times ambrose and sabrina’s aunties being a unit on raising sabrina, it was interesting to see these other sides of him where sabrina is the voice of reason, zelda is the stubborn one that doesn’t want to listen, ambrose being moody and hilda trying to keep the house functioning. that was super interesting and i just wish it had been resolved before leviathan’s untimely death :/

about lupercalia, i adored the costumes and i loooved nick and sabrina in it from the start. they just have such great chemistry and they look so good together and their characters just compliment each other SO well. plus, gavin is an amazing actor and i loved watching him shine during this episode.

another episode i really really loved was the mandrake. godd kiernan was SO good in that episode ! she was so great playing mandrake!sabrina and i loved that they put old wardrobe pieces on her, while the og sabrina had her new black and red leathery wardrobe on. i loved nick’s role in it and i love that he was a key point in her discovering the truth about miss wardwell. another thing i really loved was theo and mandrake!sabrina’s scene -- theo SCHOOLED her ok ?? and i loved the formation of the fright club ( well, the mortal side of the fright club ) when theo woke up on the mandrake first and freed them, then roz explained what was really going on and harvey was,, there.

speaking of harvey, they reeeally need to give him something to do bc he is literally the only powerless character on the show. doctor cee is possessed, dorian grey is dorian goddamn grey, roz has her cunning, theo can communicate with his aunt dorothea ( and perhaps more spirits ? ), ambrose is an amazing warlock TA, hilda and zelda are powerful and super smart witches whose personalities compliment each other, the weird sisters are The Weird Sisters, nick is the greatest conjurer since edward spellman aka one of the strongest warlocks ever, sabrina was given her powers by LILITH HERSELF and she is also part SATANS DAUGHTER as well as part EDWARD SPELLMAN’S daughter so she is literally the most powerful witch Ever, and heavens, even mortal!wardwell has more play than harvey because she is the unofficial town historian, so she knows all about the witches in greendale and can at least help the fright club with research. meanwhile what does harvey have going for him ? his gun and the mine maps he steals from his dad ? give the boy something to do !! you’re wasting a perfectly good ross lynch !!

and now let’s talk about nick. i know that there’s really no valid reason for him to betray sabrina like he did, but i understand why he did what the dark lord asked. he is an orphan and his only parental figures were a werewolf and blackwood. blackwood also had a hand in raising the weird sisters, and look at how deep and non-faltering their faith in the dark lord is. they’d do anything for him, even if he doesn’t directly ask them to ( see feast of feasts -- the three of them would love to be queen of the feast to honor him ) and that is what nick grew up with/around. so when he gets access to edward spellman’s texts, it sends him and his faith for a loop. there’s this new figure that is just so opposed to what he has been taught, of course he becomes a big fan. he starts believing in his word and it changes him, but what does he do when the dark lord himself shows up and simply asks him to keep sabrina en route to the path of night, it’s obviously hard for him to refuse because opposing to an ideal is one thing, but opposing to such a powerful and dark force face to face is something else entirely. however, he never asked him to fall in love with her, nor did he ask him to spend so much time with her, and mainly, he didn’t ask him to break so many rules and traditions for her. plus, the fact that nick went against witch law and against every tradition in the book for her despite knowing he was being watched by the dark lord only heightens how much he knew he was risking. i just don’t think nick had any idea of how far that simple request really went, i think he just pushed it to the back of his mind after he fell in love with her.

ambrose and prudence have soooo much potential and it will be very interesting to see how the weird sisters act when they are separated, as well as seeing the church of lilith rise with our queen zelda as high priestess and the queen of hell lilith as their main deity.

now on to the ending,,, god oh GOD. i can’t. first of all, everyone looked SO good and i can’t BELIEVE harvey deigned himself to cast a spell on someone. the musical number was gorgeous and i love everyone’s voices, i also love luke cook’s face and i think he did a great job in the role he was given. i wanted nick and sabrina to make it out of the season safe and sound SO bad but alas,,, that had to happen. it really goes to show how much he truly is willing to risk for the girl he loves. plus that shot of madam satan carrying him into hell was STUNNING ok

i squealed when i heard sabrina say “let’s go to hell and get my boyfriend back”. i really love that her friends ( mainly roz and theo ) are willing to support her in all of these crazy supernatural missions and i realy appreciate that harvey is beginning to dip his toes into all of this magic stuff with the three of them.

i would really, really love it if they are able to get back nick because he is such an amazing love interest for sabrina and he is a very fun character, not to mention a male character that i need to see more of ! ( also, i want gavin to stay on because he kills the role and he deserves all the notoriety !! ) also, i want to see lucifer wreak more havoc because who else is gonna be the villian, then ?

overall, i really liked this season and i liked it better than the last one. i wish they would’ve focused more on sabrina’s side of her relationship with nick and that they had used that cerebrus’ episode better, and i really really want to see sabrina and the weird sisters become real friends, and maybe they could include roz in their friendship. i can’t WAIT for part three.

this happens every time i pull up the love growths and the jealousy rates in genealogy so i’m unpacking that too but for all my fe4 muses. going in roster order for this. why am i doing this?? cause i love storytelling via game mechanics and think more games should do it. not necessarily in relation to romance though, like leif’s arc is pretty amazingly displayed through mechanics in both his game appearances but i can ramble about that another time.

for the record, i’m assuming a love growth of +2 as what a “normal” pace for falling in love is since it’s the most common growth rate in the game. the format that this reads as is 0+2 then which translates to “a love base of zero, a love growth of two.”

under the cut cause i still have no idea how to be succinct and also i’m talking about eight characters so yknow

lene:

almost every guy has 0+2 for her. she doesn’t have any particular attraction to any guy as a result, though she’s open to falling in love with any of them with no biases. the only exception to this trend is ares who is set at 300+1. this is one of the highest love bases in the entire game if not THE highest.

even disregarding their canon dialogue making me believe they are in a “more than friends, less than lovers” situation, this love base alone hints towards that too. 300 love points makes the game register the two as having taken a fancy to one another, 400 points is when they’re officially “well and truly in love” with one another, and 500 is when they’re literally married.

the fact that lene’s growth is at +1 with ares makes me think that although she has a high love base with him, she’s slow to realize her own feelings for him and would take a while to actually transition into being ACTUAL lovers. she would take a while to believe she should make a move. this is supported by the fact that she is at the low end of ares’s jealousy spectrum. she just doesn’t easily get jealous over other girls spending time with him.

interestingly enough, the people that she’s more easy to become jealous over are ced, oifey, and iucharba.

leif:

leif has a 0+2 for everyone except julia, nanna, jeanne, tine and linda. julia is set at 0+0 for everyone except seliph so that’s why there. nanna and jeanne both are set to 100+2 which means he has yet to even think about either of them in a romantic way.

200 points is when the characters are thinking more frequently about the person for reference. however, leif’s shared childhood with nanna and jeanne undeniably has a foundation for him to see either of them in a romantic light and them growing up together is likely the reason behind his falling in love eventually. despite this, he goes at a normal pace with either of them still.

the interesting thing is that he is set to 0+3 with tine and linda. whilst he has no foundation with either of them, this tells me that he is quicker to fall in love with them and his relationship might be likened more to a whirlwind romance. it’s also interesting to me because linda and tine are... nothing like nanna and jeanne KGHFKFHKFS

i guess leif’s taste in women might be more like linda and tine but he’s just got more backstory with nanna and jeanne to build upon. either that or leif probably interacts more with tine and linda then and has more opportunity to fall in love with either of them mid-war.

leif also has an equal jealousy rate with all girls which just means nobody ever gets jealous over him. Ever. what that means?? hell if i know how to dissect that

dew:

hi token first gen! he has a more unique spread, so i’ll just write it down first here.

edain 0+2 / ayra 0+2 / lachesis 50+2 / erinys 50+2 / silvia 0+3 / brigid 50+2 / tailtiu 120+3

due to his backstory and how he didn’t know any of these people until the war, i’m going to interpret a higher love base to mean he’s more strongly attracted to those characters upon a first impression.

but... why those four? that’s a tricky one. i can’t just say he likes women who can kick his ass cause ayra isn’t included. i was going to say it’s strong-willed women, but again ayra would’ve been included. i can’t say he’s just attracted to longer hair cause all of them have long hair, and i can’t say it’s that he thinks lighter colored hair is gorgeous because erinys with her trademark silessian green hair is there.

i might still say though he’s attracted to women who he immediately understands their convictions and motivations. by the time he meets ayra, presumably he would not be able to witness her devotion to shannan as strongly as, say, sigurd would have. but lachesis he’d see her desire to be strong for her brother, erinys her love for her homeland and proper strict attitude, brigid her backstory as a rare female captain amongst pirates, and tailtiu her desire to follow claud no matter where. he’s less certain with ayra for reasons explained, edain because he just meets her in jail and his mind is fixated solely on getting out, and silvia because he only interprets her as a dancer and probably doesn’t immediately catch onto her attraction to lewyn.

tailtiu is the highest, so i’m going to interpret that as him either thinking thunder magic is extremely intimidating and awesome or because he just likes girls in ponytails. him having a higher growth with silvia and tailtiu tells me he gets along better with girls who are upbeat but have a sadness underneath it, and he might just naturally feel more for them as time goes on.

his jealousy rates are complicated cause genealogy separates priority for first gen hardcore based on whether or not you’ve turned your console on and off again yet. a shared theme between the two versions though is that edain and ayra more easily get jealous over dew. also interesting is that dew’s jealousy rates post-resetting are identical to jamke’s -- a fact i choose to believe because dew and jamke likely hang out a lot around one another in the game, solidified by their ch5 convo having dew getting uncharacteristically sentimental on the archer prince before running off.

iuchar:

iuchar’s rates are mostly 0+2 so standard fare but the unique stuff comes to predictably larcei and more unpredictably tine.

larcei is set to 200+2 which i think makes sense considering he literally gets recruited under the pretense that he’s so in love with larcei that he’s willing to betray his family for her. i know the rate is set lower because he’s recruited in the first chapter of the first gen, but i want to believe that it’s a nod to the fact that he’s not as head over heels for larcei as he claims to be. again, 200 means he’s thinking about her but not necessarily in love with her. the fact that they have a growth of 2 points per turn makes me believe that them developing a romantic relationship would be at a normal pace, just in general normal and not affected by his supposed affections for her. he wouldn’t be pushing things aggressively as a result, but also neither of them are necessarily extremely opposed to it.

tine is set to 0+3. this... i’m going to unpack when i get to her because i thought at first this was something specific to leif since leif and tine are predestined lovers ( a fancy term used to describe pairings the game recommends or otherwise they have conversations with one another ) but i’m beginning to realize there’s something else here.

i can’t analyze iuchar’s jealousy rates because i can only see iucharba’s, and although the two have identical love growths and bases with one another, i don’t feel right just assuming their jealousy rates are the same. if they ARE though, it’s a wild time cause it’s:

nanna > larcei > fee > tine > lene > lana > patty > altena

tine:

i promised to deliver on analyzing iuchar’s rate with her here and yeah.

tine’s set to 0+3 with EVERYONE. EVERYONE. NO EXCEPTIONS. thank you for consistency for starters but oh boy.

so since i’m running on the idea that +2 is normal for love growths, i have no choice but to recognize that tine just falls in love really quickly. a +4 growth DOES exist though it’s basically for brigid only. the only other weirdly high love growth rate to be featured in game is finn who has a +10 with brigid and tailtiu because finn has only 50 turns to fall in love with either of those two so good luck and hope those jealousy rates don’t kill you if that’s your aim. regardless, all of tine’s romances edge on whirlwind romances. but why?

well, i have a feeling it ties into the fact that tine is supposed to be the second gen deirdre equivalent. this is showcased by her lover’s convo with seliph where she remarks that she doesn’t want to end up just like deirdre. this does not happen in any other lovers convo with seliph, so i’m pretty sure that’s just her role. her having silver hair, being associated with purple, a mage, and also a sheltered girl also helps the connections further.

tine’s fast rates ensure that no matter whom she falls in love with, it’ll be fast-paced in a way similar to how deirdre’s relationship with sigurd went. there’s nothing to make someone fall in love at first sight with tine, but she’s quick to fall in love with and reciprocate.

her jealousy rates are a bit more complicated to look at, but a general note is that she’s the girl that gets the most jealous easily over ced hinting at her own preference to him. behind that, in order, are ulster, diarmuid, oifey and iucharba equally, shannan and ares equally, and then every other guy. i don’t really know how to interpret that except that barring ced, i guess she just. favors the tirnanog gang i guess???

febail:

febail apparently ALSO HAS A 0+3 WITH EVERYONE except julia and lene. i have literally no explanation for this the way i did tine, but i’m going to try.

i’m going to interpret this to mean that febail falls in love easier than he lets on. this might be a byproduct of him being a sensitive person at heart, something shown and exemplified by how he serves as a father figure to all the orphans in conote. hell, he even has a card where they’re all crying as they’re rushing to hug him.

febail indiscriminately falls in love, and perhaps him being kind of bad at hiding how sentimental and compassionate he is towards the orphans is what helps others fall in love with him quickly too.

except lene and julia. lmao. i get why julia is the exception, but i just think it’s really funny that lene also isn’t falling for this dude easily either. which might just say something about lene’s maturity and inability to just recklessly develop affections for others.

febail has the MOST confusing jealousy rates in my opinion because his is just. altena > everybody else. the reason why it’s weird that altena gets jealous over him easily is because altena shouldn’t be falling in love with anyone. it’s not even like julia’s case where julia is 0+0 for everyone except seliph. altena has NO rates or bases.

i already kinda talked about his love growths and bases in this post but i’ll talk more about it cause there’s definitely stuff i missed.

coirpre’s spread is like this:

julia 0+0 / lana 220+3 / muirne 220+3 / larcei 0+2 / creidne 0+2 / nanna 0+2 / jeanne 0+0 / fee 0+2 / hermina 0+2 / patty 200+3 / daisy 0+3 i think / tine 0+3 / linda 0+3

him being lategame can help explain some of these but i don’t think that’s the right assumption to make? mostly because his bases and growths aren’t all across the board like how tailtiu’s are, and she’s in your army for around the same amount of time that coirpre is in yours. but they also still let him fall in love unlike altena who, as said before, should logically not fall in love but also you can rig jealousy rates i guess.

it’s also interesting because coirpre is one of the few instances where he differentiates between substitutes considering he will express absolute zero interest in jeanne no matter what but he’s open to falling in love with nanna.

there’s not really much of a common thread between all of the notable rates here, but minus tine and linda, you could say he’s taken a bias towards other characters seen as support units in a way. lana, muirne, patty, and daisy are not intended to be frontline soldiers. however, nanna and jeanne are out of the running for this, so it’s not a hard-pressed rule for him. it still makes sense that he probably hangs out more with other support units considering he himself is one.

his dynamic with patty and his dynamic with lana would probably be extremely different since lana is the more soft-spoken and sweet character whilst patty openly bickers with him. hence why i can’t say it’s a personality thing tying him to any biases.

coirpre has some of the highest bases in the game because of his being 200 or more with some of the characters. this implies he’s definitely taken a fancy to lana, muirne and patty upon first meeting them. if it weren’t muirne and nanna, i’d just say he has a preference for blondes and be done with it but of course things are Complicated.

coirpre has jealousy rates too, with his being patty > lana > altena > other girls. this gives insight to how girls feel about HIM and he’s not actually the least complicated scale, his having more people ranked than lester, febail, seliph and leif. he’s more attracted to lana at first sight but patty is more likely to feel things for him.

also altena is there for some reason. i’m DOUBLY confused on account of her not supposed to be falling in love and also the fact that coirpre sees her as a mother figure.

deimne:

deimne’s rates are identical to lester’s, not really surprising considering that he serves as lester’s substitute but only a bit surprising to me considering he has different lover’s conversations. regardless, his are pretty lackluster too, being 0+2 for everyone except julia, tine and linda.

tine and linda are at 0+3 again and julia is at 0+0. i don’t have much to add besides what’s already been said in tine’s section, but these bases DO reflect his lack of desire to interact with the nobles. doesn’t really apply that way to the substitutes though but eh. he’s still not really rejecting anyone though since he’s at +2 as opposed to +1 or +0.

i’m going to assume deimne’s jealousy rates are also identical to lester’s which means his is patty and daisy > altena > other girls. daisy and patty definitely makes sense to me since he has lover convos with them. altena is once again a wild card crashing in out of nowhere.

cause why avoid hanging out with nobles when you can have a princess of TWO houses getting jealous over you i guess.

only other notable thing is that deimne has an arc that i find sweet with his childhood friend karen who is not playable. it’s implied that she has feelings for him but he doesn’t really notice. this isn’t reflected in mechanics, but it’s a tangentially related subject.

Look I'm not trying to hate, but can you explain to me why you love Henry so much? I just reread the entire series for the third time and I still can't connect to him, even in TRK. Like he just shows up partway through the fourth book (yeah, yeah I know he had a few cameos in the other books but those don't really count) and people immediately include him in the Gangsey, like no. Ronan and Adam don't even seem to like him that much. Idk, I just don't get why everyone loves him so much.

if you didn’t connect with henry, i don’t think i’m going to be able to convince you to. and like, that’s your right, yknow, You Do You. but i can explain why i connected with henry and why i think he’s a legitimate member of the gangsey. so, here’s that, under the readmore because i rambled:

i mean, okay, there’s a lot about him that appeals to me. some of the simpler reasons are here — like, i love his flare for the dramatic, i love that his native language is thought, i love that his methods of friendmaking involve inviting people into dark holes and also inviting people to toga parties, and like.. he got kidnapped for ransom as a child and he leans right into that trauma, and… just. he’s weird and normal and not normal at all and i find him thoroughly, completely charming.

but i think a lot of the reason i connected so easily to henry is because i’m a Gansey Person. like, gansey is the character i relate to the most, so he’s the primary emotional proxy through which i interact with this series. and there is no arguing the fact that gansey connects with henry, a lot, very much, very quickly. when they interact, henry doesn’t feel like a latecomer. they just work, like they’ve been friends for years. and that felt… right to me? like, gansey’s whole thing is that he’s soulmate collector. he finds people who he Clicks With, and then he falls in love with them, and then it’s like they’ve Always Been. that’s… his court. that’s how the gangsey Is. adam helped gansey fix his car one time and then they were best friends. gansey called blue a prostitute and then like a week later she was flying on his helicopter.

but, you say, ronan and adam dont even like him. and, true, but ronan and adam dont like anybody, lol. ronan and adam didn’t like each other for a long time, and ronan didn’t like blue at first, and adam is a deeply suspicious person in general, so like… it makes Sense that they don’t instantly like henry. which, like… if you’re a Ronan Person or an Adam Person, i get why you might have more trouble connecting with henry too! i’m the first to acknowledge that this is a huge fault in the execution of henry’s story. i think he would’ve been a lot better-received had he had the time to fully grow into the gang, yknow, to develop relationships with everyone, not just gansey and blue.

but like… idk. that’s what fandom’s For, i guess? exploring the spaces canon leaves blank. and henry has lots of spaces left blank, which means there’s lots of room for us to play around and see what lines we can draw! and i think that’s really fun! having a character like henry, brought in later, provides so many opportunities to add new angles to each of the dynamics in the gang. of course i wish we had seen more of it in canon, like, of course, but… that makes me want more henry. not less. yknow.

tldr: gansey connected with henry enough to bring him into the gangsey, so i did too. i think, given a little time, the rest of the gang would’ve as well. and that is more than enough justification to Include him, imo.

1. How many pets have you had in your life?

one. I’ve always wanted them but my mom and I have always lived in tiny apartments and had no way to care for a pet so it wasn’t until I was 17 that we adopted a kitten!! his name was merlin and he was the laziest, moodiest lil ball of fluff I’ve ever met. I.. had to give him away a year later because we moved to a place even smaller that wouldn’t allow pets so long story short I’m scarred for life and don’t think I can ever take any more pets without feeling guilty to my bone

this is merlin btw I love him with all my heart and he now lives in a farm. as far as I know anyway.. :(

2. Do you believe in destiny? Why?

mmm interesting question. weird, metaphysical theories aside, I don’t believe anything is set in stone per se, but I do believe that some things are just... meant to be? in a way? for example, you can’t tell me ryan and shane weren’t meant to be friends and find each other in such an unlikely place as they did. one of my mottos, completely stripped from context because it’s from a rather pretentious tv show, is “the universe is rarely so lazy”. meaning that good things happen for a reason, and that you trailed that path for that to happen. yknow what I’m saying? I can’t really explain this without writing a 10 page essay because that’s just how my gemini ass thinks

3. If you could chose one person on the great beyond, would you take the chance to talk to them?

you mean someone who has passed away? oh yeah, I would talk to my grandmother. she was raising me and died when she was 4 and that changed not only my entirely life but our whole extended family dynamic... so many questions.

4. From all your hobbies, which one would you love to make a living of?

oh man, writing. I’ve been dreaming of being a writer ever since I was 9 or something. never panned out but that would certainly be the dream. if I could work with videos, subtitling, tv shows, cinema etc that would also be dope as hell!

5. What’s your favorite color palette to wear?

fkgjfsdgiusfdksd I have no fashion sense whatsoever, idk? I do like to wear dark clothes (because weight..) and reds (because pale).

6. What’s your opinion on queerbaiting?

I don’t have the time for it. for starters, it’s something that usually comes from people with very poor writing skills that can’t come up with plots interesting enough to keep viewers/readers hooked in. that already says something. no offense to anyone who is a fan of shows like these, but when it’s mostly written by white men I just don’t have any high hopes for it. you can ask flavs what my reaction was like when I realized the character I had headcanon’ed as wlw in hannibal was actually a wlw. I couldn’t believe it, because what???? since when does that happen, especially in a show run by a white man??? kjdfghsjgd

I think this is part of a bigger conversation but my point is, don’t fall for it. I know it’s all part of the fight for representation, asking big names to produce big shows with lgbtq+ characters in it and so on, but for the love of god, watch something else too!!!! let GOT rot and die!!!!!!!!! look up different, smaller, cheaper shows, that’s where you find lgbtq+ content creators!!!!!! there’s so many wlw webseries out there, you wouldn’t believe it. you have a choice. don’t give any more of your time and love and word-of-mouth to shows/movies that clearly have no interest in being more diverse. they don’t deserve you.

2. What’s a favourite memory of yours?

I have plenty of good memories, thank god. I think one of my favorites is just hanging out with my friends in 2008-9; one of their older brothers was driving us around town, we were listening to the white stripes at full volume, singing along, all sitting pressed up close together in his shitty car. man, my teenage years would’ve been fantastic if I had stayed there with them!!

3. Do you play video games? If so, which one’s your favourite?

I DO!!! I mean, not as much as I’d like because a) no money to spare on games/consoles, and b) I suck at basically everything. but I’m obsessed with paladins these days, and I’m also a big fan of LOTRO. I like horror games--mostly the resident evil and silent hill type--and fps. I grew up playing some tomb raider, medal of honor, resident evil... oh, those were the days.

4. How did you first get into [your fandom of choice]?

with bfu it was that kind of thing where I’d see a meme or two cross my dash and it was always this ridiculous screenshot, or those “that’s it, that’s the show” kinda things with dozens of thousands of notes... until one day I was incredibly anxious, and I needed to watch something or I’d never finish the assignments I had for college. so I just thought “oh hey I should check out that unsolved thing people like so much, it’s buzzfeed so it’s probably good bg noise to work with” lol and it did work, and I did finish my assignments, and that means that I first watched the show barely paying any attention to it because I was busy doing something else. but ryan’s and shane’s voices helped me relax and to this day they still help a lot with my anxiety, to the point that I need to keep coming back every minute or so during episodes because I get distracted just listening to their voices and not absorbing a word lol

5. How did you first get into fandom in general?

uhh.. well, I was a big “pottermaniac” (that’s how I called it) since I was 9, but that was before I realized fandom was a Thing on the internet too. I remember when I was maybe 10 or 11, I entered a chatroom (god, those were wild) just in time to see someone saying in all caps HARRY POTTER IS GREAT AND YOU’RE ALL DUMB FOR NOT SEEING IT or something fkdsjgfdugfsdk and it was this girl using the nickname fawkes. she was older than me, I think that 15 or something, and we exchanged addresses (!!! how am I alive!!!) and were pen pals for a while. but it took me so fucking long to actually find the fandom online that I think my first brush with it was with the arctic monkeys forum I found online in 2008, where I mistakenly said I liked “the muse” and people laughed at me so I never went back to it lol then in 2010 I found out about kpop and that’s when I really dived head-first into fandom life. took me long enough (tbf I was very against the notion of being a “fan” because I was an idiot).

6. What’s at the top of your bucket list?

great fucking question. no idea. I guess.. traveling overseas? if we’re talking wild, distant things. but closer to my reality, getting a job that pays me at least the minimum wage disjgdfgkfsdk #fuckinternships

7. What’s something not many people know about you?

I love dancing and miss it like hell.

8. What’s your favourite medium for storytelling - movie, book, television, musical, comic, internet video, video game, something else? Why that medium?

ohhhhhhh this is an interesting question. as much as I love writing, and think that’s one of the best things we humans have ever come up with, I do love.. musicals? not necessarily theater--although that’s great and I’d sell my soul to see chicago live--but I love the idea of telling stories through music. I really wish we could bring back the custom of telling stories orally, and through music, and that we could as society agree that collective singing is beautiful and should be reintroduced in our day-to-day lives. sure listening to (1) artist singing is great but hAVE YOU TRIED SINGING ALONG DURING A CONCERT WHERE EVERYONE ELSE IS SINGING TOO? best fucking feeling in the world.

we had two bands in brazil, in different periods of time, that were so incredibly famous they’re still cornerstones in our music history. one was legião urbana, some folk-ey rock band that had a couple of songs telling these really long stories that I LOVE with all my heart. faroeste caboclo is our bohemian rhapsody, most people my age or older know the lyrics to it. and mamonas assassinas was this comical (?) rock band that sang dumb, fun songs that usually told stories too and that was the best. I miss that kinda thing.

9. What’s your favourite food?

red meat, mainly churrasco. but I also can’t live without chocolate milk AND the whopper. capitalism has me by the stomach.

10. Do you have a joke to share?

fjgfsdgskfdgfsk I don’t.. it’s been so long since I last tried telling a joke, I don’t think I know any?

11. What song/artist helped you through your struggles?

pitty has been a big part of my life for some 14-odd years now. “be ok” by ingrid michaelson and “starlight” by muse were my anthems when depression hit hard during my teenage years. the white stripes has also been a constant, with gems like “blue orchid” and “a martyr for my love for you” turning into sort of theme songs for certain parts of my life. choi sam helped me through college. and even though they were a huge disappointment to the point that I stopped listening to them altogether, block b gave me a good 4 or 5 years of distraction from life.

It: Chapter 2 Thoughts

-right off the bat I wanna say that while I liked and enjoyed this movie, I like the first movie a whole lot better

-the 1st movie i think does better w delving into the character's psyches and making us understand why they're afraid of something

-i feel like I didn't really know the adult losers bc I didnt. They were like completely new people to me

-also. The tonal shifts throughout the movie were so jarring. Like that scene where eddie is fighting the leper? Its fucking intense until it throws up on him and that fucking song plays. I hated that

-and I personally think they relied too heavily on like jump scares and cheap horror tricks which like sucks bc honestly this movie wasnt that scary. No scratch that it wasnt scary. It was more of am adventure movie than a horror movie

-also I absolutely hated how they retconned Bill's character like that. He was a perfectly fine character and we didnt need to know that he wasnt actually sick. We didnt need that at all

-oh and fucking hell I hate the cgi on the "young" (I put that on quotes bc they're my age and it's weird to me calling them young) losers faces. Especially anime finn wolfhard holy shit I hated every second of that.

-AND THEIR VOICES. you didnt need to make them sound like discount Alvin and the chipmunks like i dont think voices need digital altering. I'm sure it would've been fine w the physical raising stuff the kids were doing

Charon Analysis

Hi, I know you don’t know me, but I was wondering if I could share some thoughts about/analysis of Charon with you? I feel like there are a lot of interesting things about him I’ve never seen talked about.

–First of all, I think a lot of people confuse the Charon from the games with the ones from the two manga. The TVTropes page on him even says he’s completely evil and more cruel than Cyrus?! O_o This is not the case with game-Charon.

–Either Charon was smart enough to figure out more of Cyrus’s plan than the other members of Team Galactic, or Cyrus told him the most because he was in charge of working on the Red Chains.

–I heavily suspect that Cyrus intentionally chose Charon for the position of Commander to cause strife and prevent the others from questioning his plan. It also looks to me that Cyrus may have preferred Charon over the other Commanders based on Charon’s behavior, which is hilarious considering nobody likes Charon.

–Can I just point out that based on the Old Notebook, Charon’s family let him electrocute himself and fall unconscious without helping him?! And they let him wander far from home to root through a garbage dump?! It seems to me like maybe Charon’s desires for money and for being part of a team stem partly from having a neglectful, impoverished family.

–Finally, the most important point–Charon never says that he just wants money for himself! He always says that he wants Team Galactic to get rich too. He says that things won’t get done without money. He never gives any sign of wanting to replace Cyrus as the boss before he goes to the Distortion World, either–he would’ve been fine with Cyrus being the one to make money to assist his followers with. Charon is greedy, but more in a cynical way like Giovanni… he never wants to hoard cash for himself, he wants it for his organization whether he’s the boss or not.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading this! I’m a little shy about sending this but I hope you liked it as a Charon fan! ^_^

I kinda wish I knew who you were, cos Charon fans are so uncommon and all. This analysis raises a lot of points I’d never even considered, and it could be fun for us to discuss our different headcanons some more! This really made my day, seriously!

* I HAD NOT EVER CONSIDERED that Cyrus might be intentionally playing off the commanders against each other to keep them easy to control. Charon is absolutely a great agent of strife, lol! Personally I always just assumed he was so good at his job that Cyrus just put up with his annoying personality. And like.. yeah.. he does probably consider Charon the ‘best’ of his commanders, because the old grump doesn’t have a shred of goodness in him, as far as he knows. I’d imagine Charon is incredibly easy to manipulate, all you need to do is dangle some money or fame in front of him. Plus he’s always so blatantly obvious whenever he’s being disloyal! Charon is a man of no surprises and no sudden attacks of conscience, plus he has a very practical role in the group. A++ best pawn, out of everyone he hates, Cyrus hates Charon the least. I actually had fanfic ideas of how this would be Team Galactic’s downfall if Charon ever hypothetically got A Big Mushy Redemption Plot Of Rotoms And Hugs. Like, Charon seems to know EVERYTHING about what’s going on in the team, while everyone else is deluded in one way or another. I feel like Cyrus didnt feel it was necessary to give Charon any false impressions of what he was doing, I mean cynical grandpa wouldn’t even join the team if he thought he was ‘making a better world’. Plus Charon’s probably had to have a lot of info on The Big Plan if he’s the science guy in charge of making the red chain and stuff. Plus he could probably just hack into Cyrus’s computer if he ever was kept out of the loop on anything, lol! So like.. if Charon ever suddenly turned good he’d be a huge danger to his team! Its just that out of everyone he’s the least likely to do that.

* That’s actually a really good point, that Charon never does anything to follow up on his ‘I’d be a better boss!’ claims until the team is already disbanded. I don’t quite agree that he ISN’T greedy though! i think he is indeed a lot more invested in his team than he lets himself admit, but he’d still have the vice of being moneyhungry even if he wasn’t. I dunno, I just prefer characters who keep a few flaws even after they’re redeemed, yknow? It makes for more character development! Plus I kinda always feel like ‘oh no if I say Charon isn’t 100% evil everyone will slam me for it’, lol But yeah, a big part of all my headcanons for him are definately that he does secretly enjoy being part of team galactic, and is a big ol mushy mess at heart. You hugged a rotom once, Charon! You clearly do like having friends! I mean cmon there’s so much more plot potential going down that avenue instead of just making him like his manga version T_T

* I have my own mess of random headcanons about his childhood in the Old Notebook, since it never really says anything about it. But you’re right that the absence of any mentions of his family does actually imply a lot by association! To try and justify why they’d live in a forest mansion if they were poor, I had this whole complicated backstory about how his mum had married into a rich family and then the grandparents turned on her once her husband died, and were always trying to steal custody of her son. So I had a story where his mum wasn’t a bad parent, she loved him a lot, but she was very neglectful cos she had to work so many jobs to sustain the family and pay off increasingly more unfair “loans” from those grandparents. So Charon was alone a lot of the time and that lead him to becoming so mature before his time. They basically just lived in one room of this giant musty house, and there were a bunch of books piled as high as the walls, and loads of places to explore that not even his mum knew about. So he was quite the little bookworm but also became kind of a mischievious kid who’d end up making great friends with the rotom he found! And he developed a sense of money being all-important since he was poor, but also picked up a lot of ‘I am so important, I have noble blood’ stuff from the bad influence of his grandparents. ....He’s just a fun character to imagine backstory for, cos he has such an odd personality! People could imagine hundreds of different ways he could have developed that personality over his long old grandpa life. And thats why its always fun to meet new Charon fans!

* In summary: your thoughts were really good and made me ramble eighty hours of writing, ok thanks XD

Shadowhunters 2x04 Spoilery Review...

Just some things that I was thinking throughout the episode in no particular order...

WARNING: This one is pretty negative. Avert your eyes if you’re looking for pure positivity.

Are we allowed to hate Victor now? Like... Raphael isn’t even one of my favorites, and I was ready to jump through the screen and fucking WRECK A FELLA.

PS: I’m a scaredy cat pacifist who would never, actually, “wreck a fella”.

I’m, um, honestly kind of in shock after the episode, like. Jocelyn is dead, right? Like she’s dead-dead? The fact that this SUPER IMPORTANT MOMENT happened off screen is just, like, mind boggling to me? I can’t even... like... comprehend that this happened.

DO YOU SEE WHAT THIS DID? I AM SAYING LIKE EVERY OTHER WORD. RIDICULOUS.

But seriously, wtf was up with it happening OFF SCREEN? I mean, I get that even now Matt isn’t the best stage fighting expert ever. But... a moment like that...

Unless it’s not going to stick? I mean, that seems like the only explanation that makes sense to me. Jocelyn isn’t going to remain dead, because why else would a HUGE DEATH like that... be done OFF SCREEN?

I am so stuck on this right now, you have no idea. Off screen. Off screen. WHY OFF SCREEN.

Another thing that happened off screen: ALEC GETTING POSSESSED???? Why, oh why, oh WHY was that done off screen? No, seriously. Where was the build up of tension? Why didn’t we see it? Surely they had time to show a moment of Alec walking out of the infirmary and getting possessed? At least THEN the reveal of who he killed would’ve been a better payoff? We see him get possessed, then we see him post-murder, and it’s like OMG WHO DID HE KILL?

But, um, no. That didn’t happen.

Basically, Jocelyn’s death reveal had like zero tension. Because the tension up to Lydia’s death had SO MUCH build up, and then there was a release of tension afterward... and they never built it back up. WHY.

Better reveal? Clary finds her mom first. Freaking out. Crying. Then she realizes she hears someone on the other side of the door. She gets up, shakily, walks out of the room - and we see Alec on the floor, shaking, and staring at his hand. BAM. TENSION.

I’m just so stuck on this whole sequence, guys. All of this off screen shit. I don’t get it. Don’t get it at all.

Also, someone please confirm that Alec was just holding back against Izzy, please. Like, again, I get that Matt is not that great at stage combat from what we’ve seen, but... that fight was super lame. So lame. Couldn’t Izzy have just kicked his ass a little more if he was holding back? I mean, since when do demons show mercy? Raj’s possession was BRUTAL with Lydia? But Izzy’s possession was like, teehee, let’s play~

And if he wasn’t, then damn, dude, Alec just... isn’t... good? (Please don’t hate me.)

Also, how could they kill off Jocelyn (supposedly) and NOT give us a Luke reaction? Like... at all? We never see him, for a single second, even FIND OUT about Jocelyn’s fate?

But somehow Simon knew?? Even though he clearly didn’t know?? He’s psychic now?? SOMEONE HELP ME.

Random but the Lydia and Raj scene was REALLY well done? I don’t know the actor’s name that plays Raj, but he was super good in this episode. I adored him to pieces - like, I don’t like him, as in I woudn’t want to be his friend, but I adore watching him on screen. And the actor when he got possessed? A+, good job, man.

And Lydia’s pain sequence, fuck, so good. I was on the edge of my seat, just freaking out. Poor Lydia, fuck man. POOR LYDIA.

But I kinda wish she HAD been the one to die? Because at least we fucking would’ve SEEN IT.

Okay, okay, let’s talk about something else... Back to the Downworlders (minus Luke because apparently Luke is like a side character with absolutely no plot lately).

This is probably the best part of the episode. David Castro was AMAZING. I don’t even like Raphael, but I was SO all over him. I just wanted to take him and protect him and love him forever.

Magnus and Raphael’s relationship - HE CALLED HIM HIS SON. I just cannot with these two. I want about a million more scenes with these two. SO GOOD.

Simon was amazing, again. Another highlight. He’s so protective of his mom and of Clary, and I just really love him, okay? He’s really coming into his own in this show, and I just love that about him.

Camille and Magnus’s scene was just so... heartbreaking? Like... he clearly still loves her. And this also makes me feel a little high and mighty. Like people act as if it would be the BIGGEST BETRAYAL if Alec still had feelings for Jace, but... HELLO! *gestures wildly* He’s not the only one who is working on shifting his feelings from one person to the next.

And of course, they’re going to succeed. They’re going to live happily ever after forever and ever and nobody can tell me any differently. But it’s been a week. So, yknow, give them time.

Unrelated: But my bisexual ass was so thirsty for Camille’s actress tonight. Like, holy hell, those hips don’t lie, no, sirree, they certainly do not.

LASTLY - Jace. I knew this was how it was going to go. Well, that’s a lie, when Victor was like, “Hahaha, LIFE IN PRISON.” I was like, Sir, Jace is gonna save your life and prove you’re a fuckwit. And I was right.

Granted, this does prove that Victor has some good in him, and it also makes me want some backstory on the guy. But I still don’t like him, but he gets at least one point for knowing when he owes a guy one.

But those questions about Jace’s feelings for Clary? WHOA. Crossing the line, bud. That’s not fair. AGAIN, it’s been like a week. People don’t just FALL OUT OF LOVE that quickly. For fuck’s sake, people.

Anyway, I don’t have any pressing questions this week. Mostly just ranting. So, yeah.

Overall... weakest episode so far, which is SO terrible for me to say since this was the big shocker and my birthday episode. (I’m seriously cringing writing that right now.) But... how could they kill off such an important character in such a way that it has NO IMPACT on the audience? I am just... disappointed.

But it wasn’t all bad. I’m just not pleased.
