I love how on the outside everyone is like “wow look at the ever-stoic and righteous Hanguang-jun, what a model of the Lan clan precepts”
Meanwhile teen Lan Wangji is internally losing his mind and questioning all his morals over the most annoying troublemaker in class, constantly hoping to be the object of his teasing, fighting/flirting with him on the rooftops and getting in trouble.
And young adult Lan Wangji is going into seclusion, branding himself, and getting publicly whipped over a man he never even said “i like you” to (but maybe that makes it sadder…)
And grown adult Lan Wangji is getting drunk, stealing chickens, using his Lan headband for inappropriate purposes, following around a known-cutsleeve lunatic later revealed to be the reborn notorious demonic cultivator.
Like… Wei Wuxian is always saying that he’s bringing down Lan Wangji’s reputation but babe… i think he’s doing that all by himself.

that scene where lxc is like "wangji why are you still here?" and lwj goes "xiongzhang is here, naturally i am also here" and lxc is like "why don't you go talk to your friend wei-gongzi? :)" makes me believe that in a modern AU lxc would want to go with his friends to the movies but shufu would tell him to take lwj with him, so it's now teenage 3zun trying to have a have a nice hang out while being followed by the most miserable 10 year old you've ever seen

Being a Qi Ying devotee must be crazy cause it's the only sect that actually guarantees that you can see a deity in the flesh. Not by being a pious or anything, provided you're annoying enough the god you worship can and will descend from the heavens just to personally beat the shit out of you.

There are plenty of fics of Wei Wuxian being adopted by different characters, even from different MXTX stories, but what if that happened someone else?
I'm saying I want a fic where Shen Jiu adopts Meng Yao

One of the things I very much hate about modern AUs in MDZS is how the fic writers Americanise everything about the characters until the only thing Asian about them is their name.

Ever think about how Lan Wangji knew how strong of a cultivator Wei Wuxian was and probably assumed that they could cultivate to immortality together and how DEVASTATING it would have been for him to realize that Wei Wuxian didn’t have his golden core anymore???

"Wei Ying should have told Jiang Cheng about the golden core exchange before he did it"
When?
Was he supposed to tell Jiang Cheng after his volatile reaction to Wen Ning? While he was catatonic and immovable while they were in enemy territory? When he wasn't eating or drinking and was passively suicidal?
More importantly, why would he? Why risk Jiang Cheng saying no? The GC exchange wasn't just about Jiang Cheng. It's about the Jiang Clan. To both of their knowledge, there was no way for Jiang Cheng to revive his clan without one. Jiang Cheng isn't being overdramatic when he basically says it's the end of his clan. Wei Ying (in his head at least) had a duty. A duty that JF and YZ left him with when they died. An obligation to the Jiang Clan as a servant, which he ultimately is. If you really want to talk about Asian and Chinese culture specifically, duty and honor trumps EVERYTHING. Wei Yings Sacrifice wasn't just about a brotherly love. It was about responsibility. It was expected. Especially since, as the last heir to the Jiang Clan, JC had a target on his back. With no core, he was helpless, and he would have hated the idea of being protected by Wei Ying. Culturally speaking, Wei Ying made the right choice.
Wei Ying didn't hold back the info about the GCE because he was uncoomunicative. Its because he knew it would have done nothing but cause conflict. It would have done nothing but make Jiang Cheng angry with him or worse, hate himself. If you had sacrificed something to help someone you love, to keep them alive and healthy, would you have told them about it knowing it would tear them apart to know?

#mdzs#lan wangji#jiang yanli#wei wuxian#jiang cheng#i ask bc i think the subject just never comes up in mdzs. we know how lan wangji feels about jiang cheng (he's a hater) but not yanli#which is a bit strange given how important she was to wei wuxian#uhh given that im the poll runner im not sure if i should share my own opinions. but#imo you can argue for any of these#yanli was made to be the perfect fridged woman so it feels like sacrilege for anyone to dislike her. she's too nice#and given that she's kind of similar in temperament to lan xichen i can see lan wangji thinking highly of her#especially after she sticks up for wei wuxian at the phoenix mountain hunt (it always comes back to wei wuxian)#but i can also see lan wangji focusing on the fact that she married into the sect that ultimately destroyed wei wuxian#he's not exactly reasonable when wei ying is involved. so i can see him arguing that she should have used her position#as wife of the jin sect heir to do more for wei wuxian. or that she should have convinced jiang cheng not to expel wei wuxian#when she was still living at lotus pier. or something like that#this is not reasonable and lan wangji does not have all the facts. but he isnt a reasonable person lmao#grudge holder 100. blame slinger 1000.#there is also the fact that wei wuxian super killed yanli's husband#so in a yanli lives au would lan wangji expect yanli to just get over this? so wei wuxian can be happy?#honestly i dont know#at any rate. in canon lan wangji doesnt seem to think very highly of jin ling. who is yanli's son#which seems to imply to me that he and yanli did not have any sort of friendship or acquaintanceship#so imo the most realistic option out of all the options here#is that lan wangji thinks of yanli as just wei wuxian's dead loved one. and not really her own person#in the end it all comes back to wei wuxian lol#yanyan polls#yanyan speaks#adding second tag bc i talked too much in the tags
