the first two episodes of happiness are a comedy actually and i completely forgot how absolutely hilarious han taeseok is. he empties his clip onto an (infected) person, busting yihyun's eardrum in the process, and when yihyun asks him what the hell that was, he goes. "it's a glock. first time seeing one?" or when he's asked about next being distributed internationally and he just smirks and says, "i told you i was very good at stealing." han taeseok you are so unserious nobody gets you like i do
#and then he tells yihyun he should be nicer to him bc he's the reason yihyun's married in the first place!!!!#this man is just 1) doing his best and 2) is in love with his sick wife and for that alone i have no choice but to stan#happiness#tvn happiness

I just want to bring up something which I think was brilliantly written and directed in The Matchmakers. It has something to do with Jung Woo and the Princess.
I remembered that when it was first revealed that Jung Woo has actual feelings for the Princess, people were confused. Some were speculating if he's just faking it to empathize with Soon Deok's dilemma and make her feel better and some were questioning if it was a last minute added story line.
I completely disagree and don't think that it was a randomly added storyline. Seeing as how the show has consistently potrayed Jung Woo to be a man who is enveloped with unfortunate rumors and secrecy, I think that THAT is the whole point of episode 1 and what the show wants US to believe as well when we were first introduced to him.
What we see in episode 1 is basically the rumours about him being played out for us. While what happened were mostly true, a fraction of it were also based off rumors. The point is that he is an isolated figure and people outside of his close circle would only know him through the rumours they've heard about him. Which was why it was directed in a way that us, viewers, would also only know him through those rumours. What we were given were only quick snippets of the events that happened with Jung Woo which doesn't show the full story. What solidifies the director's intention for me was that after we were shown the sequence of time passing while Jung Woo was left to live in isolation after the princess' death, the scene cuts to a group of men outside the gates of Gyeongwoonjae (Jung Woo's house) openly gossiping about him.
Now, what was the purpose of this scene if not to show that the scenes that were played out before this were based on the unreliable gossip made by outsiders? I think this scene perfectly illustrates that idea and most viewers might have overlooked this, including myself haha. It only clicked for me when I decided to rewatch episode 1. & now I'm smacking myself on the forehead for not realising lol.
The Jung Woo we were introduced to in episode 1 is basically the Jung Woo from the rumors and it was directed with those intentions.
& as the episodes go by, we, the viewers, who has only known him based on the rumors and snippets shown in episode 1 and made to believe that the rumours were true, begin to learn more and more about the real him alongside Soon Deok. The director and writer wants the viewers to be a part of the story and journey as well. I guess we can say that we are those people who believed in the rumours about Jung Woo too easily LOL.
I just find this so clever! 'Rumours', in itself, plays a huge part in the story & it also goes along with the running theme within the drama about novels being based on true stories but they can also be turned into rumours because they are not written to tell the exact full story. The show also consistently incorporates the idea of misunderstandings to show that 'not everything is as it seems' and that things are not always what they appear to be on the surface. Like Soon Gu's misunderstanding in regard to Soon Deok's marriage. Jung Woo's misunderstanding of Soon Deok's identity. Lady Park's misunderstanding of what happened with her son. The misunderstanding of the Maeng sisters based off gossip. Soon Gu's initial misunderstanding of Hwarok. Everyone's misunderstanding of Jung Woo, as a whole.
Bravo to the writer and director of this show!

ep. 7
This has no right being so funny, I think the opening scene with Jung-woo and his chest pains have to be the funniest in this drama so far
Youngest sister kinda mean tho. If a dude was legally not allowed to find love, I'd feel bad for him, not scoff or laugh at the poor guy
This poor footman trapped in between two developing couples. Honestly, I’m shipping youngest daughter and police orabeoni the most rn, they’re so cute.
Hwa Rok looking just like me after I pull an all nighter bc of an essay
I am sorry, Rowoon is so baby girl in this drama. Did he just drop off a lil love note? And that lil bow under the paper 😭😭 so cute aah
Young sis and officer oppa lobbing compliments at each other across the room & poor butler once more in between
Wait why did she burn his notes?? Meanwhile he's keeping hers in a box 😭😭this was brutal to watch
Oh no, what's happening to this kid... Ah, good for him, the kid's got survival instincts at least.
Eldest sis getting involved in palace intrigue, she def not getting married now… and where is this plotline going? Hoping the Crown Prince and eldest sis only have a sibling type relationship...
Oh Soon-deok’s FIL does not like taking orders from his wife, or watching her give them
Kinda struggling to get thru this... Not sure if it's a pacing issue or just me. Like I feel like this drama has a lot of funny and cute moments but outside of that, there are so many lulls
I like how the king and the queen are in sync, he doesn't engage in recriminations, they just both try to get the job done. Power couple fr. What a foil to Soon-deok's inlaws.
Yeah bro, why are you as the king, so powerless? Joseon court politics are wild
Dude is so in love, he's even cradling the chess piece (?) representing her with so much affection lmao. I like how Jung-woo didn't even try to claim he's as fit as her orabeoni 💀💀
Wait what? Why is Jung-woo wearing her clothes? Am I missing something
Ah it was for a classic kdrama romantic water rescue
Unfortunately there are still 4 more weeks left of this drama, so I doubt she wants to marry you, buddy 😔

sorry but i’m watching my lil show while i get ready for bed and just!! man chiyo isn’t a violent person but i think she sure is attracted to it on some level
#but like righteous violence#violence to protect others or to punish someone who hurt others#that rage that is justified even if it maaaaybe goes a lil far#could she herself be pushed to that point? very possibly anything’s possible depending on the verse#but yeah i’m watching the korean show happiness and yihyun is out here throwing punches and ready to swing if anyone hurts his wife#and chiyo’s yanking on my arm so hard rn#anyway i don’t mean to ramble when i need to be sleeping but… i love her and this silly show okay :’ )#it’s just the right amount of zombies to keep me fixated but not too creeped out to watch at night 💜 would recommend 💜#get ready to ramble | ooc

Film Review: Metamorphosis (2019) Dir. Kim Hong-Seon
[[MORE]]
Have you ever watched a film so good in the first half and ended up getting disappointed as the story progress? This film is one of it. Metamorphosis didn’t morphed into a beautiful horror film.
I am not a fan of horror films. I do find suspense/thriller/mystery films or series interesting. I seldom watch one but if it’s interesting enough, I’d give it a try. My attempt to watch this film was probably around December of last year. I had to pause it though because I couldn’t grasp what was happening in the beginning. I only had the chance to watch it again when I saw it on my “to continue” list of films. And so I forced myself to finish the film even though I was watching it alone. At night.
Metamorphosis started off really interesting. I couldn’t really comprehend why it was called that way until I continued watching where I left off. Apparently, a devil changes its face by copying the family members and becoming out of character. It was an interesting take of a doppelgänger— creepily uncomfortable. Soon, the movie became violent. I guess that was the goal of the devil, to kill the whole family. Until the priest with a heavy baggage from his past came in the picture to help them. I’m not going to tell the whole story here but the ending was a disappointment.
I truly don’t understand why this movie suddenly went down hill. Like the script was written off just for the sake of completing it. You’ll find tons of articles giving this film a low review. Though the film was bad, the acting from the actors were truly exceptional. Too bad it was wasted on this.
I have yet to come across a Korean horror film that is worth watching. Do you have any suggestions? Drop them down below.
PS.
This poster is amazing.
