thinking about. about Krag. how he's the last of his kind. how his family was ruthlessly murdered by Zane's soldiers, and he had to bury them all and create tiny burial grounds for them and no one talks about just how fucked up it is that the show just NEVER addresses that Zane was responsible for LITERAL genocide like and they never even explain why the yeti's were all fucking killed so this dude lost his whole fucking family and its never explained as to WHY he had to fucking lose them all and AUGH SCREAMING SOBBING TEARS TEARS TEARS

My favorite scene in the entire series, bar none, is this little bit at the end of R2:

"Why did you come here if you'd already made up your mind?" "Because I knew you'd talk me out of it if I was making a mistake."

I love the intimacy of this line. He needs her to know what he's about to do, so she can give him her blessing. He needs her to know that there is no way in hell he'd let her take the fall, that he could never live with himself if he implicated her instead, that her legacy deserves better than a lie. And he absolutely knows that she'll tell him if she think's he's about to do something incredibly stupid. This is their process. It's how they solve problems, it's how they've made it work over and over and over.

And there are smiles, and laughter, and... god. For a few seconds, everything is back to normal. It's "go ahead, nay-say me" and "okay, so what's your theory?" It's just them, talking.

And then the priest walks in, and the moment is shattered, and everyone slams back into reality. There's a very good chance they will never see each other again, because he's probably going to prison, and she is almost certainly going to die. The absolute crushing grief on her face. The way they don't let go of each other until the last possible second. Hail Mulders. 😭 Augh. Leave me here to die.

...yeah so anyway I have strong feelings about that scene.

What is your favorite mythical creature?

100% vampires. Yetis are a close second.

Yetis, or ape men, Bigfoot etc are such an interesting thing. Sure, Bigfoot is just a silly story, but these stories didn't start with Bigfoot. The Yeti and creatures like him have been in our tales since we began.

Because if you consider them, they are sighting of bipedal apes, like us and not like us. Primates in our lineage who walk upright but whose features we don't fully recognize as human, covered in hair. These stories are everywhere, throughout the entire world. They are legends older than civilization, told and retold.

They are stories we once told around the fire to our children, when we feared the dark because we had no way to safely dwell in it, no guaranteed reliable light source to chase it away.

Which.

They're Neanderthals. Or hominids before us of some kind. Something that overlapped just enough to have been seen and then faded into the ether of history.

But we remember that once there were more than only us here. The bones and blood of many of us still have traces of a nonhuman lineage left, Neanderthals and Denisovans who we once whispered with in the night and then overran.

The Yeti is just a genetic memory of a time we weren't the only hominids, I think. And one we can't let go of.

Ghost & Yeti ik have some crazy talks bc Yeti quite literally does not value himself or his life at all bc he's a waste of effort to keep alive if he can't do anything that is worth anything. and Ghost kinda just stands there & they're sharing suicidal idealation or something but sharing the reasons & Ghost knows he's not going to but everything in Yeti wants to bc he has nothing & sees himself as nothing but because he still has something to offer thats valued he's not going to, bc he thinks its cowardly and he wants to be killed rather than do it himself.

What kind of nether creature is Nova?

Nether Warden! Unlike her overworld counterpart she retains her sense of sight and is more agile, able to traverse the varied landscape of the nether with ease. She doesn’t have a good sense of smell compared to overworld wardens and her hearing is not as acute.

Nether Wardens protect fortresses, or used to. Their numbers have dwindled significantly, like all things in the nether, and nowadays it’s very rare to find a fortress under one’s protection. Before she was taken by the bastion, she was the only Warden in the known area. She was taken at a very young age and while her fortress tried everything to protect her, it wasn’t enough.

The Macra Redesigned!

Doodle and design ramble below

For some reason i always associate The Macra Terror with a pink/teal colour scheme, so I definitely wanted to apply that to my design!

I took a bunch of inspirations from real crabs of course, with many thanks to my good friend Satsuma for recommending some species!

The yeti crab is obviously the inspiration for the furry arms. Having yeti crab inspirations felt perfect for a 2nd doctor era monster, since they're already familiar with another type of yeti!

I took inspo from the king crab for all the spikes. I would've loved to add more spikes but I feel like the design would've become too cluttered...

This little guy recommended by my friend was a big inspiration for a more flat face and all the stripes!

I took inspiration from the coconut crab's posture and legs. I love the way it carries its heavy body on land, especially with how it positions its claws. It's just really neat to me!

And them the flying saucer as inspiration was obviously for the see-through dome. I liked the idea of the macra being rather vulnerable in the sense that their organs are on display through that little dome window. Which is why they've grown to get clever and manipulate the colony >:o)
