Month 3, day 29, just a little bit of work done for today. I'm not sure yet, but I might be getting burnt out a little bit on daily drawing. If I can't get my groove back in the next week or so I'm gonna switch to daily doodles or something else light on the brain power like that. Hello-Bonjour fellow Canadian! Thank you for enjoying my work :) Mercy is a huuuuuge project that I work on every day!

I'm still adding in all the key pictures and concept art in AO3 because I just learned that I could do that. So far Reformed Predator has all the art I could add right now with a few chapters or moments that are bare (that will change in the future). I am stuffing images into Space Adventure too so that will be done soon (I am also editing Space Adventure every day because it's my oldest story and could do with a quality boost). Discovery only has pictures in Part 1-2 but I will stuff the story with pictures as soon as I have done all I could with Space Adventure.

Yes, three fanfictions with accompanying pictures for every chapter coming soon! Monstrous Heart will get the odd scene and concept art but right now, the first three stories are my priority. I am concentrating my art efforts into them so that I can at least start adapting some of the stories into videos. I have a very ambitious goal of obtaining all Part 2 images for Space Adventure, Reformed Predator, and Discovery so I can complete their videos. Oh and all brand new Part 1 images for them as well to relaunch the videos of Part 1 for these paths (much has changed and improved since the demo of 2021)! Right now, I have something like 1000 pieces of art for Mercy. Haha but of course, I don't cram everything into the fanfictions. For example, "Predaking Gets Therapy" is the adaptation of Reformed Predator Part 3 chapter 2 and has about 50 images in it. The AO3 chapter just shows a couple of images. I would love to have at least one picture per chapter on AO3 and all concept arts for the first three stories. For the fourth story, just the concept arts is my goal for now. All this is very costly because many artists are paid! Yes, commissions are key to bringing my stories to life. I am thankful to them and to the volunteer artists who really save my butt.

Still looking for paid and volunteer Transformers artists! Haha I have been scouting actually. If I see some good Transformers art on Tumblr, I check the poster's bio to see if they do commissions. I've been randomly DMing artists. Sometimes they know exactly what my project is already! But hey anyone reading this is welcome to come to me, no need to be shy! I had an artist tell me they were waiting for me to reach out to them XD

Transformers: Mercy is going to be very unique as first, fanfictions with a 100 pictures inside them, then secondly as videos with 1000s (visual novel type TV show?!)

Maybe Law heard someone talk about these stories of her and Luffy doing reckless things, doing IT in some weird places (not that she denied to have done that, but wtf) or doing the most romantic thing that surely never happened (she heard someone talking about romantic stories set in Dressrosa). Maybe... she also read one, and THAT one made her snap, and yes, why not? She started to hunt Barto down without telling anyone why she was doing that, claiming that "everything will be clear once Kikoku would have reduced Barto to a talking head and nothing more"

When I first got into JayDick, this blog was the first one I encountered and I really enjoyed the posts about Gotham Knights JayDick (and why I got the game and wow y'all weren't kidding XD) and then post about RHatO annual #1 really sealed the deal. But all that to say that as I've been slowly devouring the comics I noticed a trend? (And please forgive my rambling thoughts as I get them out of my head and into the void)

But I noticed that fandom likes to give Dick a lot of shit about his thing with red heads and I'm side eyeing Jason like he also doesn’t have his own collection of red heads... literally the same ones as Dick (except for Artemis)?

Kori? Roy? Babs? (All exs even Roy imo)

Like you have him and Kori kiss in new 52 RHatO plus him saying that Kori loves Dick as much as Jason hated him 👀 when we all know there is a fine line between love and hate 👀

And then Babs, I know there were a few moments in Batman Eternal where she was implying she wanted a relationship with Jason as a means to get him to stay? (I mostly skimmed through Eternal but that's how I understood those panels) and then (spoilers for) Batman Three Jokers (again which I flipped through) where they share a kiss (and sidenote: Jason was hot as hell in this 😳)

And idk if I'm making sense but I find it interesting that the writers give Jason almost all of Dick’s exs as potential romantic partners? Isn't there a trope out there where Person A is jealous of Person B so they date all of B's exs when in reality all along A wanted B?

I hope you see the vision I'm trying to explain. 😆 like at the this point please give us canon JayDick this is ridiculous.

Oh my god yes ahigudhxyv I see what you're saying!! Like, there's SO much accidental setup for canon jaydick, even in the comics. I can't really explain it super well?? But they have such a complicated and emotional history, and it feels like they actively TRY to have a relationship with each other. They fuck up sometimes, or occasionally need outside help [glances at Artemis in that RHATO v2 annual], but they seem to really want a relationship with each other, whatever that may be. There's sooo much commitment in their relationship!! And there's so much yearning, too...

And yes, yes, there's a very fine line between hate and love :) hate isn't the opposite of love, indifference is. Jason has never truly HATED Dick, I think. The idea of him? The golden boy who gets all of Bruce's love? Definitely. But actually hating Dick? Yeah I don't think so.

Idk they feel so entangled in each other in a way that's hard to explain. Their relationship is complex, weighed heavy by guilt and grief and tragedy that they're only recently starting to clean off. But there's sooo much devotion and commitment. Their relationship can't really be described as fully platonic (not yet at least... 👀), it's too complex for that, but it's not explicitly romantic either. And it's certainly not familial, lol, I never got those vibes from them except for in fanfiction-esque comics (like Nightwing v4 107 lol). Honestly, their relationship is way too complex to be boiled down to simple labels like that. Hence why I recently found out that 'alterous' is a good label for their relationship!

Just... they're so complicated and it sucks that people don't wanna explore that because of the preconceived notion that they're brothers, nothing more, nothing less. Sure, legally they are, but they don't... act like it? They didn't grow up together, they weren't very close before Jason died, and they only recently started getting properly close. Jason also has his crush thing going on (seriously, how else am I supposed to interpret RHATO v2 annual 1??).

People are soooo afraid of even touching the idea that their relationship MIGHT be more complex than a familial one. This absolutely isn't me like, bragging or being prideful or anything, but my analysis on this sort of thing is rarely wrong loll. They're complex, and people love it that way, and I think DC is slowly starting to understand just how much people love them as a duo (and a couple- seriously, it's one of the most popular DC pairings. I like to joke it's the wincest of DC). Honestly? I feel like jaydick becoming canon one day would be a natural progression of their relationship. Especially since they seem to be getting paired up as a duo more often. Readers love them, comic artists and writers like them too- i feel like jaydick actually happening one day wouldn't be extremely surprising. Or. Well actually it would be because DC loves to push dickbabs and wouldn't dare make some of their most popular characters bisexual lmaoo. But still, they're a popular duo!! It'd only be natural for them to end up together loll.

And, honestly, I genuinely feel like Gotham Knights was going that way in terms of canon jaydick?? People love to say they were "soooo siblings" or platonic but like. God they were as FAR from platonic or familial as you can GET 😭 if you act like that around your family, I'm VERY concerned for you lmaoo. I genuinely feel like the writers were intending for jaydick to happen in a DLC given how much setup there is. Either that, or it was an Arcane Jayvik situation where the creator(s) considered them friends/brothers but told no one. God, what i wouldn't give to talk to one of the writers about that. Seriously though, there's no way they ACCIDENTALLY wrote them flirting. And how the fandom didn't pick up on it, I have NO clue.

Anyways 😭 I am SO sorry for yapping, I can't keep my mouth shut about them even if my life depended on it. I'm happy my blog is the first one you found when you got into jaydick <33

Do you ever read other fanfictions out of curiosity?

Like , i imagine you barely have time to , because all of the writing you're doing, but can the curiosity get the best of you to check out something other people wrote? If yes , what are they?

Unfortunately, I do not have an interesting answer to this.

Despite writing a lot of fan fiction over the last ten years, I have read almost none of it, and it's been years since I picked anything up.

At first, one of the reasons I started writing was that I had read through everything I could find that I wanted to read, and I was left with fic with tropes, situations, characterizations, and unhappy endings I didn't enjoy.

So if you can't find it, write it.

Now, I write everything I want to read, so I have no desire to read someone else's work.

That being said, I am sure that there have been things released since I stopped reading that I would love if I read them, but now I have a problem that I can't really read even if I wanted to because reading even a paragraph of someone else's work just makes me violently want to start writing and I have never gotten far. XD

Unfortunately, I can not give any direct recommendations, but I can recommend some of my online lovelies who I know work hard on their work. I can not speak to what is inside, so please read at your own risk. I know some of my mutual write smut, and some write... extreme smut. I do not know what can of worms that is in there. Me with this au right now:

Ok so. I'm a big fan of the Odyssey and Epic the musical, the story of the AU isn't a 100% copy of these sources materials mostly characters like and lore like. For what I've seen now the narrative course is the same than the musical until the Vengeance Saga (the Vengeance Saga rocks but I want to do something a little different and maybe closer than the original Odyssey. I'm not sure yet but I just love the Phaeacians so much I will do something including them). I don't really care about the Troy war (I mean in the au, I love classicals Iliad included) so I didn't bother matching dsmp's characters for Iliad's characters, like Diomedes, Aganemnon, Helen and all.

Dream is the reigning king of Ithaca(™) who is dragged, literally, in the L'Manberg war away from his family. George is his wife (we don't believe in gender in this house) and I chosed Tubbo to be Telemachus (inspired by one of the dynamic I sometimes see in fanfiction were Tubbo and Dream are brothers coded).

George gets a little more, proactive role I would say, in defending his house from the suitors. Suitors started to come since 11 years or something like that. He can't really fight all these men who are youngs, well equipped and full of energy when himself runs a kingdom low on resources and men where the current military force is young and unexperienced (missing the prev generation to teach them). So he uses more sneaky ways, and it's not so rare than some suitors suddenly change their mind and leave or were never been seen again after getting a little to bold. Callahan is George's confidant and "right hand man" and yes he helps him hide the bodies. George also has an ongoing deal with the god HD (Hera's role).

Tubbo doesn't know what's going on but George said him to always tell me if one of the men was rude to him (the ones who threatened his son always disappeared first). But he tries to help is own way which mostly translate by being a little shit and sometimes got into fights with the assholes, like the small feral gremlin he is.

On the other side of the sea, Dream just lost around ten of his men including his little-brother/almost-son figure Ranboo to the hands of an angered cyclop, Ponk. And follows it by having a fight with his protector god and perceived friend Technoblade, resulting in the god leaving him alone to face the new challenges on his way: especially the wrath of the god Sam, who was Ponk's boyfriend oops. He will encounter threats and allies equally, including: the god Philza and his crows minions, the shape-shifting enchanter Quackity on his island of Las Nevadas, visiting the underworld to have a chat with the prophet Karl Jacob, slaying some sirens and feeding the sea monster Nikki with some of his own men.

At first I wanted to make a parallel between the human trio Dream, George and Sapnap (Eurylochus), and a god trio XD (Zeus), HD (Hera) and PVP (as Apollo or Ares I wasn't sure). However I changed my mind, made Punz Dream's best friend and right hand man and yeeted PVP to make Sapnap himself a god because I wanted to have an unnecessary Karlnapity storyline in the background. Take it, it's free.

Also I separated Wilbur in two characters: L'Manberg Wilbur/Ghostbur named William who was the crown prince of L'Manberg and died in the war before the beginning of my story and Pogtopia Wilbur/Revived Wilbur who I call Wilbur and who is an exiled titan, ancient friend of Philza and Technoblade, playing the role of Calypso. Tommy was William's little brother and a literal toddler Dream killed by throwing him from L'Manberg's walls.

I have an ongoing theme with how mask/hiding face is linked to inhumanity and how gods or godly beings Dream will meet on his way will somehow hide a part or their full face ; and how he himself started to wear his iconic mask as he chose the path of monstrosity ; and at the same time George assassinated suitors in silence, wearing a veil and pretending to grief his husband ; while Technoblade even if he said he was done™ with humans will be befriended by Tubbo until he stops wearing his mask around him because he's growing closer to humanity. So yeah shits like that.

I will end this little vent with a non-fixed list of the gods I talked about and their domains:

Captive Prince/Swan Lake AU

I might be in over my head by posting about this prematurely before finishing the Captive Prince series (though I’m more than halfway through King’s Rising), but the brainrot has already started with my fixating and thinking about an AU. Specifically, a Swan Lake AU. >.> HEAR ME OUT: I am obviously very biased because anyone who knows me knows that I’m weak for fairytale AUs (and especially AUs with ballets as sources of inspiration). But I cannot (cannot, I say) ignore the fact that Laurent is so, so damn Swan Prince coded it is wild, to me. (Yes, I know it’s not like he was intentionally coded that way, and I am not C.A. Pacat XD) It’s just...the outwardly iciness. The hidden fragility. The inability to trust after being hurt so deeply, and having security ripped away from him at such a young age? (Not to mention, the way the Regent tries to manipulate and control (also abuse) Laurent in a way that really evokes how Rothbart treats Odette. And that doesn’t even touch on the fact that Rothbart’s imprisonment of “swan maidens” is very much parallel to how the Regent treats young boys, only to discard them when he no longer has use of them.) The dynamic between Laurent and Damon is also very Odette/Siegfried? The way Damen, despite knowing better, is ultimately drawn to Laurent, drawn to serving him and eventually determined to protect him despite ultimately having had a hand in so much of the pain Laurent went through. (And then Laurent’s initial mistrust of Damen, the frigidity and hate, and how it slowly dissolves into something tender?)

Then, there’s the way the Regent and Damen interact from the start: the manipulation, the underhanded way the Regent tries to drives Damen into certain events (or Laurent). It’s so much like how Rothbart drives Siegfried in a lot of adaptations (thinking specifically of Liam Scarlett’s Swan Lake), yet somehow, Damen remains so unwaveringly noble? Even when pushed to error, he thinks of Laurent, how things will impact Laurent, and it’s that deep yearning and pining that is so distinctive to Swan Lake, and holy shit, there is such potential here. Anyways, my brain is reeling with ideas and that’s all I might post for now as I finish the third book. I hadn’t thought I’d write anymore fanfiction for a while after my current project, but messing with a story like this is...so tempting, ugh. </3 (If it’s not this AU, I feel like I’m going to write something for Captive Prince eventually. I’m so invested in Damen and Laurent it’s not even funny. XD) On that note, if anyone is wanting to talk Captive Prince things, send me a DM because my mind is spinning. XDDD

GREEK & ROMAN

Let's kick it off with these two!

Nope! The Roman pantheon started off as their own sets of gods - the thing is, they had very little myths written down so we don't know much about how they were characterized :(

Howmever. We do know that when they were synchronized with Greece's gods, you can see the little differences between them - for instance, the Roman gods were more Forces Of Nature than gods who went out and Did Stuff, like Greece's.

Jupiter for example! He didn't have the "fucks around" rep Zeus does! Jupiter from the Roman's perspective didn't go out and do much. He rooted on Aeneus, yes, but the myths of his children weren't quite as popular in Rome as they were in Greece (probably because they were. ya know. Greek heroes, and not Roman)

And Apollo. Oh, Apollo...the only major god who didn't have a Latin equivalent.

Rome loved you so much they adopted you and went "no. no. he was always here. no we aren't lying. see? he's in the Dii Consentes!" XD

Fun Fact: Apollo is basically multiple gods in a trench coat. Paion (Mycenean), Smitheus (Mycenean), Aplu (Etruscan), Apaulinus (Hittie), Grannus (Celtic), ect were all Apollo-equivalents who historians have concluded to be past incarnations of Apollo!

which is INTERESTING because...do those gods still exist in the RRverse? Are they connected to Apollo in some way? Are they little voices in his head? DO THEY HAVE DRINKS TOGETHER?

Also, I headcanon that Helios and Ra go WAAAAYYYY back and Apollo only met Ra like. once. before Isis did her blackmailing and Ra disappeared.

SO WHEN RA CAME BACK, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN DURING HOO BTW, APOLLO HAS NO IDEA! HE'S ON DELOS AT THAT POINT! THEN HIS TRIALS!

So when he rolls up to the next sun god meeting he sees Ra and is like "wait what who are you- OH WAIT!"

And Ra's like; "WHO LET THIS CHILD BE PUT IN CHARGE OF THE SUN???"

Apollo: I'm over 4,000 years old-

Ra, pointing: BABY

(Headcanon that Ra & Amaterasu are like. the defacto sun god 'leaders' who keep the meetings rolling. Amaterasu was very tired when Ra disappeared and she had to wrangle these fiery gods together XD)

Finally, I also saw someone else mention that Apollo could have learned some Egyptian magic and used it to create the border of CHB!

Shinto: Amaterasu taught Apollo Japanese when he discovered the haiku for the first time - sadly, only Athena ever bothered to learn it to experience the haiku in its fullest. pushing my sibling agenda again haha

Hittie: This connects to the 'Apollo trenchcoat' thing earlier - if Apollo is like. the current form of Apaulinus, would the Hittie pantheon like. drop in from time to time like 'heyyyy we miss you <3'

Apaulinus was heavily associated with Wilusa, whom historians have confirmed was Troy, and Apollo's first temple doesn't show up under AFTER the bronze age collapse and the war happened BEFORE that happened meaning HE WAS APAULINUS WHEN THE WAR HAPPENED MY HEART-

Hello! Me again, back to pester you about lore.

So what's going on with The Drifter? For once I know a little about the character, I read 'A Man With No Name', but I still have questions. From how the book read, Drifter convinced Felwinter to get revenge for the destruction of the village. Did that go anywhere? And what did Drifter get up to for the (unspecified very long) timeskip between the book and the game?

And with the modern day, does the Vanguard know he's running a fighting ring out of the basement? Or does every single guardian look away when Zavala tries figuring out where people keep getting these weapons? I guess first rule of fight club and all that. What's he even trying to do? He seems to be pretty against most of the Vanguard's leadership.

Anyway, another invitation to infodump about your other blorbo. I hope you don't mind XD

If you thought I was long-winded about Eris... She's maybe 400 years old whereas the Drifter may be 900... get comfy... this will not be quick.

"Dark Age was wild times."

I adore the Drifter and a good chunk of how and why I adore him is his voice - both the voice acting and the syntax/diction/phrasing used in the writing, but voice alone does not cover why I find his character so utterly enthralling and fantastic.

I wrote a short piece consisting of Eris telling Ikora what she sees in him in my story Finders Keepers. It's basically a personality analysis and some people have (I think probably accurately) accused it of being a love letter to that character. (Reminder: that link is fanfiction - I wrote it - it is not lore, but it is based on lore. However, everything else I list after this is actual lore.)

But, personality aside, ultimately the Drifter's story is what I find most compelling about him and makes him so empathetic. You mentioned you've read A Man with No Name, but there's more. A lot more.

To start, the Drifter is D2's most violent pacifist.

He doesn't want to fight and when he does, it's vicious. The Emissary of the Nine, formerly Orin (his ex-best friend and/or ex-lover, depending upon how you read it) aptly says "He hates violence. He hates it so much he'll murder anyone who tries to inflict it on him."

In A Man with No Name, we see him go from hiding in a town and having it obliterated by warlords, to running a bar at the bottom of Felwinter peak, to getting Lord Felwinter himself to avenge the town. Drifter doesn't fight anywhere in there and gets other people to do his fighting for him, which is a pretty standard tactic for him. And yes, it is strongly implied that Felwinter does indeed murder the fuck out of Lord Dryden when he says "Call Lord Dryden. Prepare my Iron Banner arsenal."

But then we get Dark Age Drifter entries where he's gunning down Fallen attackers with quotes like "He had never brought himself to shoot a human. Or anything even resembling a human. Risen included." (Bonus mention: notice "Alright" repeated here and compare to his standard Gambit opening of Alright, alright, alright...") Where he's slipping away from non-violence, specifying, in particular, that he won't shoot a human but will defend himself from aliens.

And then he becomes something else entirely in these amazing entries with what I've been calling his Breakneck crew:

Now Otto's a Sword man. He's all about "craft." Technique. Precision. It's disgusting, but I don't care how he does it, as long as it gets done, so I just let him do it. And Otto does it so beautifully that, when he's done, you're standing there holding your guts in your hands and thanking him for the show.

Never touches a gun, that girl. She likes to get close. Likes to look right in their eyes and be the last thing they see.

The chumps that run out to stop us are babies. That's the kicker with Warlords—other than ours, there's not a Ghost in sight here. Just civilians who can barely hold their guns without wetting their pants, who can't aim worth a damn, who stick their necks out for the bad guys with eternal life. Real geniuses.

Cenric stood up. That vein of his looked about ready to pop. Drifter let his feet down as he reached for his rifle, asp-quick. "And you know what we do with rats, don't you, brother."

And the thing I love about this is the character development this speaks to where he goes from pacifist who won't fight at all... to someone who will use a machine gun competently, repeating "Alright" and getting himself used to killing, but not humans, never humans... to stone cold vicious murder-Drifter talking about the lightless who die to his crew in ways that make them (and himself) seem no longer human, to gunning down his own crew, people he felt were a perfect team, when they make deals with warlords behind his back and lie to him about it.

The Drifter started out adhering to an ideal of nonviolence and it destroyed him and everyone he cared for. His sense of self, his principles, everything he believed in is eroded until he completely loses all hope and in order to survive the cruelty of the world he lives in he becomes a ruthless monster.

Either before or after his Breakneck-era crew (it's not clear), the Drifter (under the name Eli) joins the Pilgrim Guard, a group of Titans protecting lightless people as they travel to the Last City. He does this out of a desire/need to be near Orin, a Titan with a complicated past and strong ties to both Queen Mara and the Nine. But then after spending time with Eli/Drifter and the Pilgrim Guard, Orin, the one person Drifter's ever had a deep human connection with, the person he considers his best friend, leaves without a word.

It's very telling that the green snakes, the jade coin, and the red string on those same coins that form such profound parts of the Drifter's symbolism and identity all come from Orin. When the Drifter truly cares for someone, he incorporates part of them into himself, into his identity, making them part of who he becomes, so they live on inside of him.

After his time with Orin, we get into the extremely confusing, contradictory mess that is the Drifter's intersection with Shin Malfur-related Rose/Thorn/Lumina lore. And by this I mean that the Drifter, after fighting alongside people doing genuinely noble good work, in the wake of losing Orin, leaves the Pilgrim Guard and eventually ends up joining the evil cult of evil: following in the footsteps of one of the most reviled risen to ever exist - the guardian-killer: Dredgen Yor.

If you're gonna hang with me, you need to know about the Shadows of Yor. They follow the edicts of a very bad man named Dredgen Yor. And what're his Shadows after? Everything the Light can't provide. I thought they could help me find an answer to the battles of Light versus Light that raged during the Dark Age. But the longer I flew with them, the more I saw they're blind as all those who follow the Traveler. One albatross for another. I was done with 'em.

And while in the cult, in some sort of ritual, he communes with the Darkness directly and gets some sort of Darkness powers (possibly Stasis, possibly something else - it's super unclear) and the Darkness whispers to him his Dredgen name: Dredgen Hope, which is particularly brutal in context with this quote from Dredgen Yor himself:

I care only to give hope to the frightened, huddled masses so that when I come upon them they will have more to lose. Their pain will be greater. Their screams more pure… Nothing dies like hope. I cherish it.

But it is also particularly pointed because hope is the thing the Drifter doesn't have. Trust is the thing he doesn't have the ability to do any more because of his experiences (and is also the name of the hand cannon he wears shoved into his pants). He is the most jaded (literally - constantly fidgeting with a jade coin) character in the D2 universe. He loses everything and leans in on it and follows that path to full evil.

And then he walks away. Because evil doesn't work for him either.

But also (either before or after he's completely left the cult - it's ambiguous, but possibly when he's still entangled but it's already fracturing and falling apart) he finds Orin again (he's using the name Wu Ming at this point - either having returned to it, or because he hasn't changed it yet from Felwinter Peak, or perhaps this happens before Felwinter Peak - the order and timeline is somewhat fuzzy).

Orin does not remember who he is when he finds her the second time (she's pretty nuts at this point - her story is filled with madness and tragedy), and is going insane with grief over losing Namqi (the person she left with when she disappeared the first time) as well as her obsession with the Nine. And the Drifter is once more drawn to her and once more connects deeply with her:

Wu Ming leaves his questions by the wayside as he is drawn inexorably into the gravity well of her desperate honesty. Her confessions lower his defenses. He talks of himself. Of his fear. Of his loneliness. How he feels he is one fingernail away from plummeting into an abyss. How he feels vicious resentment every time he is brought back from the dead: He never asked for the gift of the Light... They make excuse after excuse to meet again. Every conversation is colored by excavated truths; every day they feel they will reach some bedrock that will break them to pieces. It is as frightening as it is intoxicating.

But then Orin finds out about him being a Dredgen, terminates their relationship, goes off to become the Emissary of the Nine and, as someone I was talking with once referred to it: 'it was a breakup so bad he had to leave the solar system.'

Things go very poorly the first time the Drifter loses Orin but the second time is far worse. He has a full-on Lovecraftian 'At the Mountains of Madness' style horror-movie-plot experience with a crew he calls his 'best friends' (which may or may not be all ex-Dredgens but there's at least evidence they might be) out on a frozen planet being stalked and driven to insane levels of paranoia by Darkness creatures able to snuff out their light:

I think I mentioned we're all raving psychos at this point. Well, we did what all measured raving psychos would do. We thought we each had been betrayed by the others. We drew on each other.

The Drifter kills them all to keep them from killing him (at least, that's what he says - no one else is alive to argue). Then his ghost, who up until now has been kind of a moralistic asshole, suggests he hunt down the ghosts of his former crew and Frankenstein them together in order to survive:

And the craziest thing happened. My Ghost snapped... But we would need parts. Ghost parts. And we knew where we could get some... The Ghosts of my former crew all fled as soon as their charges hit the dirt. So me'n mine, we hunted them... "Hey. There's always hope. For what it's worth, I'm proud of you." It was the last thing my Ghost ever said, and the last lie it ever told.

The Drifter's ghost is rendered mute from the experience (either mechanically or due to the trauma of hunting down and murdering other ghosts - it's not clear) but the plan works, they survive, and the Drifter builds the Derelict out of scrap, returning to the Tower where he sets up Gambit.

It's super unclear (again, the Shin-related lore is just a mess and deliberately confusing) but it turns out that Drifter going on about how the Man with the Golden Gun is out to get him is actually a deal he made with Shin to set up Gambit (because, spoiler: the leader of the entire Dredgen cult, Dredgen Vale, turns out to be none other than Shin Malphur, the Man with the Golden Gun, who hunts Dredgens and who the Drifter has been saying is out to get him this entire time) to draw out the truly Darkness-corrupted guardians so Shin can kill them. (And this is ultimately why the Vanguard lets him run a fighting ring in the basement - because Shin convinces them it will help find the truly bad guardians so they can be eliminated).

If you find that confusing, that's because it is. Anything to do with Shin Malphur/Dredgen Yor/Rose/Thorn/Lumnia is pretty much an acid-trip, continuity-wise. It hurts my brain.

As for where the Drifter gets the weapons he gives us for Gambit? To the surprise of no one, he's stealing them. Because of course he is. It's him.

While running Gambit, he ends up visited by the Emissary of the Nine (formerly Orin - same body, different person) and has the Haul attached to the Derelict as a 'gift' in this amazing cutscene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFtmr___dSw

And he pretty much stays in "shifty morally ambiguous guy in the basement" mode until Arrivals when the pyramids show up on Io and we get one of my favourite lore tabs in all of D2: Whispering slab.

The two sit. They speak. They listen. Linkages forged in Light and Dark of traded secrets as the Derelict hangs in orbit around the Earth. Pacts are made. Soon, there is only the silence of knowing left between them.

"Next time you fly over the Moon, dust your boots. Tracking that crap all over my floors."

Both of the Drifter's deep emotional entanglements with Orin happen when he really genuinely talks to her, and now in Whispering Slab, he's genuinely talking to someone else, plus we get the origin of why he calls that someone else Moondust.

Then, during Arrivals, we get the amazing banter between him and Eris, and in Beyond Light they learn to control Stasis together with the result being (in my highly subjective opinion) the best cutscene in all of D2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQAB-sSi6P0

At the end of Haunted we get Eris' message to him about healing and finding joy , he has this line in Plunder "What we do now matters more than who we were", we end up with the Kept Confidence lore tab during Season of the Witch where the person who previously insisted he trusted no one now is saying: "He didn't trust them. He trusted her" and then in the Gloaming Journeyer tab, he pulls her into a hug and reminds her of what she told him once (in the Prophesy dungeon dialogue): "That we'll live in the night if we have to. We do it for what comes after." (What comes after is dawn, hope, the continuance of existence after the darkest point.)

Someone in a chat I was in once summed up the core dynamic of the Drifter and Eris' relationship perfectly as "He gives her trust. She gives him hope."

There are people online who are very frustrated with the Drifter's character development, feeling that the Drifter has 'had his teeth filed off' and that he 'got his depression cured by getting a goth girlfriend' but I feel that's just people who don't like change. The Drifter has, throughout his entire storyline been constantly changing who he is. Change is part of his many self-constructed identities which he re-creates over and over as his old sense of self is destroyed and remade. Gritty vicious Drifter is still in there and he will be just as brutal as ever if he needs to be.

He doesn't want to be, though. He never has. And as someone who deals with medical-grade depression and who found themselves in a situation where they needed to reconstruct a sense of self to replace the one that was lost, the Drifter finding a way to hope and trust again after all he's been through is an extremely powerful and poignant narrative which speaks to me on many levels.

It's not trite, thoughtless happy fluffy rainbows, friendship-fixes-everything-whee! It's painful and slow and beautiful as the Drifter learns to have healthy relationships with other people. We need stories like this to speak to us at an unconscious level and tell us that even if you're not Eris Morn and you failed, and you gave up, and you didn't make it out of the Hellmouth, and you in fact gave in to despair and completely lost all hope, your experience erasing who it was you were and having that old you replaced with someone else, you can still find hope again. Even if you've been burned so severely by so many, many, negative human interactions that you cannot trust anyone, if you find the right people, you can slowly learn how to trust again.

The Drifter's story has been called a redemption arc, and I guess in a way it is that too but, for me, the essential quality of the Drifter's narrative isn't redemption: it's healing.

Stories have power. We incorporate them into who we are. Dredgen Hope ultimately does live up to his name. Within D2 he is finally starting to heal. I find that idea, of healing in spite of being so altered by one's experiences as to have had to become an entirely different person in order to survive, of being unable to trust and still finding a way to learn how to trust again, to be important and beautiful to have in my subconscious as something to draw from. It is a story that is very much needed by a lot of people. We need to be reminded that we can be irrevocably changed and have everything taken from us and still find a way to trust and hope and love again. That might seem a bit much for a shooty game, but I maintain this is why D2 has some of the best storytelling of any game I've ever played and that the character of the Drifter is a huge part of what makes that storytelling so compelling.

Sorry this took so long to answer. This seriously was as short as I could make it and still say everything that I felt needed to be said. There's more, and more detail, of course, but this is my treatise on why the Drifter is as awesome as I think he is.

Let's start with Jelly

Fish [OC]

((this is still in progress and development but)) Fish is my medic OC. He's like a brother figure to Jelly, had babysat her during childhood until teenage years. Their bond deepened when they reunited at the base where Fish worked, often met up and hang out in his office yapping about her latest hyperfixations, ships and anime.

Simon Ghost Riley

Jelly first got to know Ghost by inspecting his weapons. She was impressed by how perfectly maintained they were so she didn't think too much of his reputations and rumours. But the moment she met him she thought he was here to take her out LOL xD she can’t believe they ended up together to this day.

Eira Raven Liu [OC]

Raven saved Jelly's life without Jelly's knowledge (for reasons yet to be discussed), pulled the right strings here and there, vouched for her skills and landed her a spot as a weapon specialist + tech unit for the team. Jelly sort of sees Raven like her senior (calling her "senpai") and elder sister kind of vibe.

Kate Laswell

is terrified but thankful for her because of the whole "don't fk with me" vibe Kate has, but eventually realized how supportive she could be and got along well. Kate’s even invited her over for dinner a few times with her wife, which still blows Jelly’s mind :3

John Price

Jelly admires Price for being, well—John motherflipping Price. But let’s be real what she really can’t get over is him and Raven as a couple LMAO she’s their #1 fangirl and is not subtle about it, wrote a few fanfictions inspired by their dynamic too HAHA

Kyle Gaz Garrick

Partner for field setups and troubleshooting, they're pretty chill cause of how Gaz is able to share jokes with her.

John Soap Mactavish

Wondered if Ghost and him are-was a thing, is not bothered by it if they were (it's not like she already have a few google doc opened writing about two characters inspired by Ghost and Soap-)

John Price

I could go on and on and on about them but I'll keep it simple. Currently, Price is Raven's fiancé, they've build their relationship from shaky grounds with many many downs and mistakes, but she'll take a bullet for him anytime. They've reached a point of codependency at this point I guess.

Kate Laswell

As someone who has history with intelligence work, she's cautious with CIA agents. It rubbed her the wrong way when Kate managed to dig up fragments of Raven's past, things she'd rather buried it six feet underground. I guess she felt intrusive about it even though she expected something like to happen. Despite this though, Raven doesn't hate Kate, she respects her for what she does. She prefers to keep Kate at arm's length, their relationship is civil but Raven tends to keep it professional.

Kyle Gaz Garrick

Gaz was the first to know about Raven from Price, and was there during her treatment of her back injury, so they're sort of solid buddies then.

Jelly [OC]

Raven has always struggled to express her affection for Jelly, not out of lack of feeling, but because she’s never been one to show her emotions easily. There’s something about Jelly that pulls at Raven in a way no one else ever has. Raven sees a reflection of herself in Jelly—someone who had the brains and abilities that would've surpasses her if it wasn't for the mission that severely wounded Jelly's nerves. It’s a side of herself Raven doesn’t often recognize in others. As such, she is extremely protective of Jelly. Let's just say the conversation with Ghost was uhhh....intense? xD (knives were involved and a clear message was sent)

Raven: really? him? Jelly- Jelly: He's uh....he's nice!!! Raven: *long sigh*

Simon Ghost Riley

Rocky af start, neither of them trust each other. Ghost didn't like the fact that Price is tying himself to someone with blacked-out background (as if he isn't "mysterious and dangerous" himself). Ngl, they kinda chill off with Price as the bridge between them. Surprise surprise, they would take the bullet for each other """""for the sake of Price"""""" (they’d never admit it out loud, and they certainly wouldn’t acknowledge that they actually care for one another)

Farah Karim and Hadir Karim

Raven’s time in Urzikstan with her PMC meant she was aware of Farah’s retaliation efforts, was there to witness the Captive mission whilst on watch duty for Lieutenant Price. Raven respects Farah’s resilience but doesn’t align with her ideologies—especially the decisions Farah makes regarding missiles in MW3. As for Hadir, Raven sees him as a wildcard, someone driven by emotion rather than strategy (in her eyes anyways), so she's kinda meh about the siblings.

Vladimir Makarov

Raven’s had dealings with Makarov in the past, thanks to Viktor (Raven's step-dad who owns the PMC Cobra) assigning her to handle transactions involving him. She's...well she was intrigued with Makarov’s unpredictable nature and considers him dangerous—not just to others, but to anyone who gets caught up in his plans. Though she doesn't agree whatever the hell he was doing afterwards.

John Soap Mactavish

Raven and Soap are…fine(?) There’s no bad blood between them, but there’s also no real bond. They’re more colleagues than friends. Raven respects Soap for being part of Price’s world, but their connection is more about Price than anything else (basically witnessed the real effect of Soap's supposedly death in MW3 on Price)

Nikolai

Raven knows Nikolai through Chimera. They’ve crossed paths during missions, though she doesn't know if he recognizes her. Their relationship is more functional than personal. Still, she recognizes him as someone who’s good to have on your side (has seen the uh...has seen Nikolai's "working" mode)

bonus: Raven from the Metropolitan Police Service (I think he's SAS too - ah you know the dude who told off Gaz??)

Gaz told Raven Liu about this Raven, laughed about it, dug up his history and went "you did not just compared me with this guy"

absolutely yes, literally tonnes! i feel like ive barely scratched the surface of torchwood fic so far cos while ive written gwen tosh and jack povs, i really wanna get into some fics where they're the main focus and really dive into what they've got going on (which is a lot) also andy too, i love that man. and the torchwood polycule. and jack/rory (from doccy who)... yeah the list just goes on and on XD

yes one (you know who you are). most of my friends make fun of fic cos its for Weird Creepy Nerds (hi that's me) but there's another who, after we watched the doccy 60th specials, started talking about the who fics he's read and that launched me and him into a long conversation about ao3 while the other two just stared at us XD also one of my fic-averse friends once wrote 'fanfic' of his friends and he brings it up to be like woah im so weird and zany (i love them all dearly btw)

I’ve been wondering, do you think it’s worth watching/reading (whichever you might think is best way) to touch One Piece at all if you’re sensitive to the, I forgot the words, but you vented about it a while back the toxic.. like.. .. I swear it’s because I’m asking I can’t remember the context. I knew when I opened the ask box to type this. It was about the masculinity and or something..

So much of what I’ve seen even before you started posting about it got me interested but I just felt it was too big for me to do when I was really new to touching Japanese media, and now that I’m more used to it I really want to finally give it a shot with so many characters I feel I’d really love but I can’t help but feel unsure if that issue is worth it.

I hate to say this, I really hate to recommend One Piece because it started out really, REALLY strong and amazing and has just kind of crumbled and gotten worse the longer it goes on in so many ways but...

Yes.

Yes I think it's worth it.

I think that if you are (as I perceive you to be) a person who interacts with media that you're into in a fan way-- if your response to art is interact with and create fanfictions and fanart and headcanons and share them with your friends and a community of people, then yes, One Piece is worth it even with all the problems, including the gender based problems, and all of the toxic mindsets that the characters have.

Because One Piece, like so many other "popular" media before it, is a great starting point. It's great raw materials. It has amazing characters and elements that you can take and do whatever you want with and you can just... have an interpretation of the characters and vision of the story in fandom that repairs the problems you have with the source material.

There's a lot of parts of One Piece that I find uncomfortable and frustrating and I deal with that through my fanfiction and fanart. Part of my interaction with One Piece is helping the characters heal. That's why all of my fic has 1000% more Women Actually Doing Things and men talking about their feelings.

Plus... its so fucking long. You can start it and then if you decide that the issues have gotten too much for you, you can just stop. If you wanted to just watch the East Blue Saga (the first arc) that's the part of the story that I think is basically perfect and I don't have any issues with.

As for which way I'd recommend watching versus reading, absolutely read it if you are a person who can sit still and read manga for stretches of time. The pacing in the manga is way, way better than the anime (the anime has classic Dragon Ball Z volume pacing with loooooong reaction shots and everything stretched out).

I definitely recommend watching the live action series (which currently covers that East Blue saga I mentioned) and also watching at least some of the animated movies!

If you strongly prefer watching vs reading, I can grab an abbreviated guide with as much of the filler as possible cut out!

But yeah, if there are characters you think you'll love, I'd give it a shot. Everybody reads One Piece for the characters, they're the good part XD

What is the main lesson of your story?

…which one? XD

Okay. I’ll go into my three current projects + a bit of general insights.

Most of my stories center around the ideas of found family, and finding love in unexpected places. There’s also (nearly always) a theme of self-acceptance, and that what you think are your biggest flaws can actually be something really awesome.

In my original novel, the protagonist goes through a character arc where he gets to turn one of his disabilities into the advantage that saves the day. It might sound corny, but as someone with that actual disability, I think it’s Hella neat. Hard-of-Hearing people, represent.

For Stories Told and Forgotten (DA Veilguard, Emmrook fix-it fic), I think the overarching theme is something along the lines of “the only way is through” coupled with “despair doesn’t last forever”.

For The World’s Fair Hotel (Lokius horror set in 1893), which is something of a classic horror story, it’s about… the Venn diagram where “You’re strong enough on your own” meets “your friends/found family = your biggest strength”.

What did you use as inspiration for your world building?

Original novel - everything from classic Brit Crime murder mysteries to epitaphs. With vampires. And a light whiff of steampunk.

Stories - primarily the Dragon Age games. I love the lore, and was saddened when so much of it seems to have gotten lost in the chaos that was developing DA4. I haven’t had a chance to read the books or watch the series etc, but I’ve loved the world since DA Origins. I’m even using one of the codex entries as inspiration for the Emmrook romance - a tragic love story between a mortal and a spirit.

World’s Fair Hotel - various documentaries on H H Holmes I’ve caught over the years, but also the vibe of The Devil In Me. And, as always with my Loki fanfics, Norse mythology and folklore. Any fellow Scandinavians out there? Hi!

What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help them grow as a person?

I just want to write stories that are good fun. Whether that’s full on Fantasy romances or corporate conspiracy Thrillers, or serial killer Horror with romantic subplots. The reader will take away what they will from the text, and I’m fine with that.

Original novel - solving the suspicious death of the protag’s mentor/father figure. Stopping the killer from getting away with murder.

Stories - save the world. It doesn’t get much bigger than that.

World’s Fair Hotel - both Loki and Mobius are Very Concerned with 1) finding each other before it’s too late, and 2) getting out of the Murder Castle.

How many chapters is your story going to have?

Original novel is 28 chapters in total, clocking in at 84k words.

Stories - WiP. As many as it needs, as I’m pretty much fixing the plot of the whole game. Yes, I am a bit bonkers.

World’s Fair Hotel - No more than ten chapters. We’re entering the home stretch in chapter 7, which should be ready for uploading within the week. :3

Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Original novel - I’m going to give it a final revision/edit after some excellent feedback I got from an editor, and then it’s back into the query trenches for me. Going to try finding an agent, or an indie publisher willing to take it (and me) on.

Stories and WFH are obviously fanfic. All my fanfic can be found on AO3. My username is “andthekitchensink” - because I tend to throw absolutely everything into my fics, and I genre hop like you wouldn’t believe.

When did you start writing?

From the moment I could write? Like, aren’t we all descendants of storytellers? :) My first novel-length project was when I was…12? 13? I never finished that one, and it’s in Swedish. But I like the bare bones of it. I started writing fanfic in my late teens, once I discovered shounen ai, and sadly stopped in my early twenties due to crappy fandoms and Life getting in the way. Then a little game called Detroit: Become Human came out, and I woke up one day thinking “Fuck this shit. I’m gonna write what I WANT TO READ and screw what everyone else thinks.”

Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr?

I’m a pantser at heart - as in I write by the seat of my pants - but I’ve found a little bit of planning ahead makes it easier for me to keep track of a story. I use bullet points A LOT, but always with the tacit agreement - between me and my brain - that nothing is sacred, and everything is up for revising if the story needs it, or the characters take things in a different direction. And believe you me, I always end up scrapping things I’ve planned will happen, and the story is never worse off for it. But! Don’t throw away text you love! Keep it in a separate document, or several. You’ll never find out where those paragraphs or sentences belong if you delete them.

And, one last tip: trust your writer gut. That thing Character A insisted should be kept in the beginning of the story, you know, that Thing you have no idea where that came from? It might just reveal its purpose in a much later chapter. If you’ve had that sort of epiphany, you know what I’m talking about. And if you’re just starting your writing journey - you’ll know when it happens. It’s the best feeling ever.

Trust yourself. Trust your stories. Trust the characters, whether they’re your original babies, or beloved fandom blorbos.

(Nikolai is an albino/mutant; mutant only because he has a third arm that I didn't draw and also because yes, his tail is transparent! you'd be able to see the bones correctly if I drew this digitally)

Anyway I posted about this AU a while ago, (with the help of ideas given by @/anticidic !) and I drew these doodles like...a month after posting my ideas/whatnot and i'm only now posting the art so xd... but anyway let me know how you guys feel about these fellas!

Yes! I do write some things, I have a few of my fics from the past year on Ao3. I wrote some Bluefour (the name I gave to the 4 boys: Trip, Searles, Rawlins and Sharts) fics as well as some Trearles, as they are my main interest. I had also written a short but fluffy Shaforbes, because well...its the most popular ship in this small little fandom xD

There's some fics on Ao3, though they are mostly Shaw/Forbes. Don't get me wrong, I love that, but we really need some more angst (and Trearles someone please write for Trearles, God I love them so much) please I beg ALL of youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

As for my headcanons...boy do I have a lot from my obsession last year. My first one I think about is ADHD Trip. This one I could elaborate on more but that's for a different post ":) Then ASD Searles, I also think he's Achillean! Actually you know what here are myBluefour sexuality hcs:

Searles - Gay (Claims the male physique is very attractive, has gotten some weird looks. Never shown interest in women before and sees them as friends rather than potential partners. Just a man-liker in general)

Trip - Also gay, just doesn't realize it ┐(´ー｀)┌

Sharts - Bisexual. Just a curious little guy

Rawlins - Heteroflexible, I liked the idea of him in the original script as having a wife and children, and tbh it's too cute. I do see him forming a very very close bond to another man, one that can be considered romantic.

Some of my other headcanons include a post-Fort Wagner Colonel Forbes, he sort of grows depressed and other angsty things, but he gets through it trust! Also, hc that he is just an alcoholic.

Sharts and Rawlins father-son dynamic very true in my heart. I also hc that they both survived Fort Wagner (Trip and Searles die, just as meant to happen), after that they grow even closer.

I have so many other headcanons, I just can't remember them all. I had them all in a chat with a person I no longer associate with, so a good chunk of the written stuff is gone :( But I'm sure I'll remember when I watch the movie again.
