It's wild watching people react to ofmd/make posts about ofmd, who have clearly never watched any dry humour British/Aussie/Kiwi comedies before (Blackadder, Monty python, summer heights high etc) because they expect all of these dark heavy plotlines to have big dramatic soapy conclusions where everyone's crying and sincerely apologizing and hugging. And then they're surprised or disappointed when it inevitably doesn't.

It gets played off with a joke or everyone just immediately shrugs off any hurt or trauma they experienced and move on.

Like, that's the point gang. Subverting expectations, satirical takes on drama and historical shows. Ed caused monumental levels of havoc then Ed flapped his arms and hid under a blanket and all Stede had to do was compliment him now they're good again.

There are shows where one character is actively trying to harm another character at all times and it's played as a joke because it is one. You're not supposed to cancel the character doing the harm because they're a bad person. You're meant to go "Haha they're insane." And move on because the absurdity is intentional.

"It would never happen like that in real life!!" Yeah that's the point. Also it's a comedy show.

I'm not saying these shows aren't capable of powerful moments. If anything these shows are known for their powerful moments. Because they come at times when you don't expect them. I'm not devaluing the emotional impact or the writing. You're just not supposed to take it that seriously. It can simultaneously be a heartfelt meaningful show and also be highly satirical and making fun of itself.

You can gather so much genuine insight and symbolism from these silly little characters and them being absurd doesn't take away from that. Them having intense emotions one moment, then in literally the next scene they're goofing up a storm. The writer's take different avenues to solving conflict that's not dramatic proclamations and biting anger like you'd see in a drama.

Will Blackbeard actually apologize? Probably not lol. It doesn't take away from his character. It's not a cheap cop out. His YouTuber notesapp apology will probably be the only one and his heinous acts will continue to be brought up in the form of jokes bc that's the genre baby.

Something I’ve seen a lot recently, is people saying “why is that so popular, when this exists?”

And it makes me so annoyed.

The marauders fandom is like a mansion, it’s really fucking big, and that means you can go into whatever room you like. If you like jily, you can find a room where people are talking about jily!! I guarantee you that you’ll be much happier there, than if you were sitting outside the jegulus room and complaining about the amount of people in there.

There will also always be some people that sit outside the jily room and say that they think jegulus is better. You know what you can do? You can shut the door. You can block them.

(The metaphor means stay in the space where people enjoy what you want to hear about and block the people you don’t want to hear from, if you didn’t catch that.)

Fandom is a creative space, people are always going to be creating what they enjoy. Just because there aren’t that many people creating what you like, doesn’t mean you should diss what others are creating. Also no one’s going to want to create something about that if all you’re doing is complaining. Fandom is built off of ideas, people post headcanons or ideas they have and it inspires others to create something. If you want something, and it’s not there, then you’re going to have to give a little yourself. Stop posting about the fact that there isn’t that thing, and start posting about the thing!!!!

The addition or popularity of something, does not mean the subtraction of another thing. There’s no limit to fandom, there’s no limit to what you can create, so for the love of the marauders please stop acting like there is.

Feminine Sirius doesn’t mean all the content about masculine Sirius goes away, it still exists!!! You can still create about it, without mentioning the fact that you hate feminine Sirius, because all hating is doing, is making you look like you hate femininity. You don’t have to like something, you don’t even need a reason to dislike it, and you definitely don’t need to hate the opposite thing, to like something.

It’s fandom, it all comes down to what you enjoy interacting with. You don’t need a reason to find something fun, you don’t need a reason to ship anything, other than the fact you enjoy it. No one’s forcing you to interact with something or have an opinion on certain things. Just do what you enjoy. Please. Unless you enjoy hating, then make some hater friends and hate in private. Or get a diary.

Some people say “hitting post was unnecessary ☹️” in the comments of angsty tiktoks, but I fucking mean it. I mean it when I see a TikTok made literally just to hate. I mean it!!! Please think before you post. Please think about your tags. Please think about who might see it. Yes, fandom is freedom, yes, you can post what you want. But fandom is also a community, and being a community means being considerate to others feelings. You learn this in nursery!!! Come on guys!!! You don’t have to be friends with everyone, you don’t need to agree with everyone, there’s a block button for a reason, use it!!!

I don’t want to search up a fanfic, and see a video going “I didn’t finish this” because I did. That’s why I’m searching up content about it. Because I enjoyed it. And I don’t give a shit that you didn’t. I actually couldn’t care less that you thought it was boring, or you hated it. Because guess what?? I didn’t!! The algorithm can’t differentiate between hate and appreciation. You don’t need to post something publicly, and you definitely don’t need to name drop the fic. I don’t finish a bunch of fics and you don’t see me shouting from the rooftops about it. And the fucking audacity some people have using the fucking fics tag????

Q:  What are alternates?

A: Prompts you can slot in to any day instead of that day's official prompt in case you don’t like it or don’t know what to do! You can use all of them, some, or none! Hell you can even use both official prompts and alternates, go crazy!

Q: Do I have to do all fourteen days?

A: Only do as much as you want to! The rules are pretty open here, you can make as much or as little for any prompt. You can even post multiple works for one prompt, or use all the main prompts and all the alts! The sky is your limit.

Q: What can I make?

Q: Do you allow crossover works?

A: Currently, no we don't! We want to focus this event on Hatchetfield, and we'd be unequipped to moderate large crossovers with over works we're not familiar with as a mod team or navigating f/f ships in other fandoms.

Q: I’m not sure if my work fits one of the prompts, what can I do?

A: The prompts are supposed to be inspiration rather than limiting, so as long as your fic is inspired by a prompt you should be totally fine! Though, if you’re still worried about it feel free to contact the blog directly via asks, or send a message and we’ll do our best to clear it up for you.

Q: Should I include Trigger Warnings / Content Warnings?

Tired of every single day seeing 29583995 posts about how you are supposed to engage in fandom and how everyone who engages differently is wrong and bad and not allowed to do this and that.

Literally do not understand why people are so pressed about what other people are doing for fun.

Do I find the way people interpret/misinterpret some characters to be annoying and baffling at times? Yes! I think everyone does. But that doesn't mean the person who is over there having a fun time not hurting anyone is at fault for it. You can block them and move on and say nothing.

This was inspired by a screenshot of someone saying something to the tune of "normalize mischaracterizing your comfort characters. I dont care whether or not they would canonically do something." And someone retweeted (to a seemingly large audience) telling them that they must not actually like the character. Which feels pretty mean-spirited to an innocuous post about how someone chooses to engage with something that comforts them.

And I honestly think the original person had a point. Normalizing it does not mean YOU have to do it or YOU have to like people's interpretations, it means that people will be allowed to engage in harmless fun without everyone getting up and arms and making assumptions about them or QRTing their post to thousands of people calling them a fake fan.

Everyone has a different idea of what fun and comfort is and for some people that's making wacky AUs or exaggerating traits and playing dollhouse and for others that meticulously researching and nailing down every canon detail in their works. Some people like tiktok and incorrect quote edits and some like meta and deepdives into and it's all okay and fine!

Someone doesn't HAVE to make an OC. If they want their quick fix of comfort and catharsis by just tacking traits on to a pre-made character that they don't have to expend extra energy on then who cares?

Also lots of neurodivergent people (like myself) and kids get caught in the crossfire as well, but really I think EVERYONE should have the right to do what they want. This feels like another extension if cringe culture which should be dead an buried by now.

And I say all this as a person who PREFERS to engage in fandom in a canon-compliant, lore-friendly way and yet has also been the victim of this.

I have had bad/mean fandom experiences over presenting evidenced, well-sourced, and canon compliant material that just happens to contradict popular fanon. I have also received backlash for putting a character through 10+ years of canon-compliant, well researched, and carefully constructed character development which led them to do things differently in the future than they did in canon.

But I don't always feel like giving a 20+ paragraph disclaimer on every single doodle, edit, or short fic to prove to you exactly how they got here and why it's canon compliant (although I unfortunately DO tend to do this to avoid repeats of past hate :/) because it really shouldn't matter. Blocking me outright or blocking my tags should suffice.

I will never understand this mentality of "Only I do things correctly, everyone else is wrong and bad and ruining everything and I have to shame people doing harmless things so everyone sees how right I am" and I feel like I've been seeing it more and more every day lately and it's frustrating. This is a big part of why I left twitter but it's getting popular here too now.

This is honestly a big part of why I don't post the majority of my fanart and fics anymore. I no longer post meta or silly edits, I no longer reach out to people to discuss ideas, I rarely share my thoughts on any characters publicly, etc.

I live a very stressful life and I engage in fandom to relax and have fun but that has been very difficult for me due to people who always feel the need to be hateful over innocuous things. I feel more and more like I need to walk on eggshells so I do not accidentally incite another ✨️incident✨️ because I dared to post a silly headcanon or edit. And that sort of hate and "umm, actually..." response STILL happens to me, even in recent days because god forbid I post an AU I enjoyed and wished to share with people who might also enjoy it!! It's so frustrating.

And this, of course, is NOT referring to people who try to force/shame others into their interpretations (regardless of if they are compliant or not). This is also NOT about bigoted material. Turning characters into harmful stereotypes (making a black woman who is not sassy sassy, for example), using them to spread hateful messages, and erasing their identities/whitewashed their designs. That is a separate issue. But someone making a character you like say something they wouldn't say in canon? Making them act a little silly? Ignoring parts of canon to make an idea they have work? It's not hurting anyone!!!

and OMG my thoughts. okay, I decided like, ten minutes ago that tomorrow I'm actually gonna post my whole lengthy thing of what I want out of s3, but!! here are some of my random thoughts that have been plaguing my brain:

starting off strong with the first thing I saw when I opened my notes app - this random idea that I had for a wilmon au: wille and simon as orpheus and eurydice. I got this idea bc I saw one of those "no one would sit at my grave" "he would" edits that are making the rounds on tiktok, and all the comments were saying "wille would follow simon to the grave" etc etc. and bc I'm a greek mythology nerd, my mind immediately went to the myths and then I was like "omfgs orpheus and eurydice." I can't decide who I want to be who bc on one hand there's simon who is clearly the musician out of the two. on the other hand I have this vivid image of wille going to the underworld and begging to save simon, willing to do literally anything to get the love of his life back

sticking on the greek mythology track for a sec (apologies, this probably wasn't what you were expecting, but I was one of the first members of my high school's greek myths club for a reason) - I love thinking up aus, and in a world where greek gods and young royals coexisted in the same universe, simon is 100% the son of apollo. like are you kidding me??? the sun was made for omar (and simon by default) (yes this is inspired by omar's insta pic)

pov outsider is like, one of my favorite things ever. in every fandom I'm in I inevitably search for it on ao3. and so I just love thinking abt what the people around simon and wille are thinking - like what do rosh and ayub see when they look at wille and simon???? they see their best friend who is strong in his beliefs against the upper class somehow being wooed by the prince of all people, then they see said prince break his heart, and then months later after they try to convince their bestie to move on, said prince is on national television basically proclaiming his love for their bestie. like I want to know what they were thinking!!! I want to see into their minds. I wanna know if they were somewhere like idk, maybe their school was broadcasting the thing or smth (idk what time of day it was sorry), and they don't wanna watch bc fuck him, he hurt their best friend, but then???? he turns around and takes back control of his own story and says no to harmful and empty traditions???? like if I was them I'd be losing my shit, full on what the fuck mode and texting simon to tell me everything bc I need to know what's happening

I also want to see into the minds of the average hillerska student. like they had front row seats to the Drama that is wille and simon - what were they thinking whenever their prince and that non res kid slipped into the music room together??? when simon nailed wille w the ball and the most reaction anyone had was the guy who was clapping behind simon??? what did the choir thinking when simon led wille away??? (bc they have to have the best seats in the house - they've been humming along to simons love song for wille for a while now, they gotta know it all, lmao). basically these pov outsider thoughts aren't fully fleshed out, but they rattle around my brain all the time and I'm always here wondering what people are thinking

something I want in s3 that's probably gonna be on my list: simon getting the fucking respect he deserves. like out of everyone at that school, wille is the one who respects him the most. wille was the first one to look past his societal labels and see the brilliant, shining boy that simon is. and yeah they've been dealing with all their shit so that distracted from it, but now that they're out, that there's no more hiding (they're stepping into the light skxjsj) - even w all that, I highly doubt that the majority of the hillerska population will give up their prejudices just like that. so I'm expecting to see students be kinda nasty, like I wouldn't be surprised if vincent ramps up his douchebaggery in s3 bc he's an elitist asshole. and bc I'm expecting that to happen, I'm also expecting wille to snap at anyone who tries to belittle simon, laying down the groundwork for simon to have his footing w all those rich kids and stand up for himself. idk, I just really want simon to be respected at school at the very least, bc we all know that the royal court ain't gonna be respecting him

on the topic of the royal court: fuck jan-olof. all my homies hate jan-olof. if I was in a room w the worst person alive and jan-olof, there'd only be one person in that room w me and it'd be that bitch jan-olof. I have a lot of vague fic ideas that I wanna flesh out, so hopefully I'll get the brain power to do that during winter break. some of those ideas are: a pov outsider from krissy's pov set in a hypothetical s3 where simon and wille are at the palace. they've just had a tense meal that was after an intense royal court meeting, and miss ma'am is frustrated. she goes on a walk to clear her head, only to end up hiding behind a corner bc there's wilhelm and his boyfriend, standing in the gardens under the moonlight. and she doesn't know why she doesn't immediately step up and make her presence known - maybe it's because she wants to understand why her son is so willing to throw everything away for that boy, or maybe it's because now, bathed in the moonlight, is the first time she's seen her son genuinely smile in over a year. it's the first time she's ever heard him giggle like that since he was a child being chased by erik, and it's all because of that boy who helped cause all this trouble. and it goes on and she eventually leaves but gets an appreciation for the way her son is never more alive than when he's with simon. I'm tentative abt writing this bc I haven't written in krissy's pov, but who knows. my OTHER idea I came up w like, after I finished s2 and had to silently freak out bc I was stupid and finished the show in the middle of a lecture hall😭 basically I wanna write all these times simon thought "I love you" but never said it and the times he finally does - I have another page in my notes app for when those moments should be, and who knows! maybe I'll write them one day

another thing I wanna write that's completely out of left field: just inserting magic of some kind or another into the yr universe. I have a bad habit of making everything magical bc thats where my eternal brainrot lies, so. if anyone wants to see that, hmu and I'll share some of my many ideas w the yr universe and magic (this includes many crossovers bc I'm also really bad at stopping myself from crossing over all my fandoms in some way shape or form)

This whole situation is almost ironic to me. See, a few days ago I was sitting in my room and the thought of Techno came to mind. It was random, I’ll be honest, as I haven’t thought about him since April. But anyways, I wondered, you know, “How long has it been since he uploaded?” “I wonder where he is/ what’s he doing now”.

But, most importantly: “I hope he’s okay.”

I was at a party yesterday when I got the news. We were watching some movie and I wasn’t at all paying attention to it, so I went to TikTok to pass the time. And then I saw it. Someone uploaded a video saying something along the lines of “I hope this isn’t real”.

So, I checked what happened, and there it was.

My friend came over to talk and checked his phone and then he saw it and we were just speechless. I couldn’t process it until the car ride back, where I started tearing up and then fully sobbing when I got home.

I started rewatching videos as I cried myself to sleep, and then I woke up this morning and it started all over again. And while it hasn’t stopped, I have to continue to remind myself to be strong because this goofball was my inspiration! So much of myself is taken from him and I constantly have to remind myself that “It’ll be fineeee.”

I’m not okay, but really nobody else within this fandom is right now, I know that. But we have to be strong, as much time as it’ll take.

Cancer dies with the person it takes, so even here he didn’t lose: a draw, if you will. We’ll learn to be okay, however long it’ll take. And it’ll take a lot of time, believe me, but we’ll be okay.

Okay, I haven't been an artist for the ACOTAR fandom for a long time, and I certainly don't post enough to make a business out of any of my works either. Even so, I do consider myself an artist as I work very hard to commit to pieces and share them with you.

Being an artist is difficult for many of us because it's like sharing our soul with the community. It's an insight into our world and our minds. It's how we view things and how we appreciate them. Through my art you can tell what I like, what I love, and what I appreciate.

And this week I have already addressed the problems with false accusations and plagiarism when it comes to art. Like I said in a previous post, a specific part of this fandom has made it their jobs to intoxicate the community we have built with their negativity. They accused an artist of plagiarism by stealing works of art from a user on Instagram named Jess.

It was already proven multiple times that this artist did not steal the idea form Jess and that it was instead a trend that artists were welcome to try out in their own styles. Despite that, the E/riels (because who else?) decided to bash all us Gwynriel artists for copying Jess and "stealing" her ideas.

Claiming that we are "lacking" and that we continue to steal from E/riel artists.

Now, the funny thing is that this same person also said this, and I quote:

"If you're going to steal a design from any artist, for the love of god give them the credit they deserve..."

"It just looks pathetic when a gwynriel "artist" releases a plagiarized artwork..."

"It’s like they’re either trying to one up elriel every time their artists release anything or they are so jealous at the creativity our artists show that they steal their work out of spite. Pathetic."

And of course, as an artist this hurt. Not only did they lack to research the trend they immediately hopped on their high horse to call us pathetic or put into question whether we were true artists.

Now, these quotes above came from an anonymous questioner here is what the person who originally posted actually said:

"This is unacceptable, and as another artist, it makes my skin crawl. Plus, I have a feeling it was done maliciously. I don’t need to get into the ins and outs of why you don’t steal someone’s work, I’m sure you get it."

"And I completely agree - It’s sad they can’t just come up with stuff for their own ship. If the ship is as beautiful and perfect as you claim it is, shouldn’t it inspire you all on its own? Like, they have to steal it from Elriels? 😔 it’s the vindictiveness for me."

Now I have never accused another artist of stealing my work, and I have never seen another Gwynriel artist steal or plagiarize another artists' work. But what was interesting to me was that this week, Jess was accused of plagiarism making all the texts I provided above seem pretty fucking ironic.

Although instead of reacting the way they did (like they would to Gwynriels), they bashed the messenger with hate comments about her looks, her art--they completely teared down an artist on Instagram, Isabellaamhsmith, stating that she was jealous and hateful and just seeking attention. They all stated that this was all simply about ship wars and it has been made very clear that this has nothing to do with ship wars, it's about the integrity of an artist and how plagiarism shouldn't be tolerated and it especially shouldn't be tolerated when the said plagiarizer is making a profit off of stolen work.

Now, what Jess did is not okay. From what I can tell she swiped through Pinterest, took the things she liked, inverted them to suit her "art" then gave no credit to the designers, artists, or organizations she stole from.

And here are what some of her supporters have to say:

A real artist's mind is full of color and imagination. Yes, we do refer to references when we work but we don't go and steal from other artists--it's just not done. In order to do what we do we have to imagine it. Sometimes it does just come out of no where that's how it works.

Ever here that sound on TikTok where he says, "isn't amazing how an artist can take a blank sheet of paper and just blah blah blah..."

Jess didn't do that. She took a blank sheet of paper and probably stuffed it with photoshopped photos from Pinterest.

And who is getting the brunt of it? Not Jess.

Instead Isabellaamhsmith is getting spammed by haters, most notably, E/riels.

Only truly ugly people go for the looks. No one should be told to go un-alive themselves or be judged on their looks. We put ourselves out there on social media, we are bold for sharing our art and Isabella was simply stating the facts. Jess is no real artist if she's just stealing ideas from other people.

Don't kill the messenger, it's not her fault she's got her facts straight.

Summary: Slytherin supports Hufflepuff after a break-up. 

“And then,” Hufflepuff continues angrily, “he said I would probably cheat on him with a girl!” 

Slytherin’s forehead creases while Hufflepuff paces around the dormitory.  

“He sounds like the type of guy who would ask for a threesome after you tell him you’re bi,” she replies. 

“Right?!” Hufflepuff plops onto the bed, her arms splayed over the duvet as she stares at the ceiling with blazing eyes. “Honestly, fuck him.” 

“Fuck him,” Slytherin agrees, laying beside her. 

“I’m glad I told him I’m bisexual,” she huffs. “Otherwise, I’d still be in a disgusting relationship with that rat without knowing how much of a dick he is.” 

I always suspected he was an ass, Slytherin thinks. But how was I supposed to tell my best friend I hated her boyfriend? 

Hufflepuff’s demeanor shifts into something undeniably desolate, and she closes her eyes. Slytherin sees a stray tear slip from her eye and past her ear. 

“Hufflepuff?” 

She turns her head to see Slytherin staring with furrowed brows. She doesn’t respond, not even when her eyes become clouded with tears. 

Slytherin pushes herself upright and says her name again but in a more gentle tone. 

That’s when she wordlessly sits up and holds her arms out, to which Slytherin scoots forward to embrace her. 

Her face wrought with emotion, Hufflepuff sobs into the crook of her neck. Slytherin doesn’t ask what’s wrong. Hufflepuff will talk when she’s ready.  

After several minutes, her breathing gradually evens out, and all that can be heard is her occasional sniffles. She draws in a deep breath and exhales shakily.

“He said I should’ve told him in the beginning. He said I tricked him. And it, it hurt,” her voice cracks, “to hear that. To hear him say all those things to m—me.” 

Slytherin hugs her tighter. “I know,” she murmurs, rubbing her back in a methodical manner. “I know.” 

Hufflepuff feels herself shake and tremble from the effort of muffling her own cries. It doesn’t take long for her to let it all out. Snot begins to leak from her nose as tears streak down her face, but she doesn’t bother wiping them off. It hurts. Everything just hurts. 

But with Slytherin by her side, it hurts a little bit less.

It’s been two weeks since the breakup. They’re studying for their Potions exam in the Slytherin common room, where it's quiet and peaceful. Slytherin is too focused on her work to notice that Hufflepuff hasn’t written a single word down in the past ten minutes. 

“It was you, wasn’t it?” 

Slytherin regards Hufflepuff with a puzzled expression. 

“What?” 

“You were the one who jinxed you-know-who last week.” 

Slytherin snorts and says, “If you’re talking about Voldemort, then no, I did not jinx that no-nose egg. But I would if I could.” 

Hufflepuff shoots her a pointed look. 

“Okay, okay,” she relents. “Yes, I turned your ex into a rat. But only because he deserved it!”  

Hufflepuff wants to be mad, she really does. After all, Slytherin has gotten detention plenty of times because of her—well, for her, really. But she cracks a smile. It was pretty funny to see him walk through the corridors with the tail still intact; Madam Pomfrey can do many things, but even her healing magic has limits. 

“You didn’t have to do that for me,” Hufflepuff says.  

Slytherin arches an eyebrow. 

“Who said I did it for you,” she asks. “Maybe I wanted to see him scurry around for my own amusement.” 

A wide grin stretches across Hufflepuff’s face. She doesn’t bother pressing her best friend about it. She knows the truth. 

They go back to their work, and before Slytherin can truly return her focus to the assignment, Hufflepuff speaks. 

“Thank you.”

Slytherin meets her eyes and grins.  

“Of course,” she says. “You deserve the world.” 

Hufflepuff offers a soft smile. 

“Hopefully we’ll see it together.” 

And then she goes back to her work, but Slytherin doesn’t look away. Not yet. Not when she’s gazing upon the girl whom she has silently loved for years.  

Yea, Slytherin thinks. Maybe we will.

1. describe how you first started writing and when you first posted

i began to write in general since i was around 14 like any other emo kid kdjdjsks and o began to write fics when a friend asked me for one as a birthday present. it was written in a hurry and it’s not my favorite but i really enjoyed doing it. i posted that exact same fic on their birthday

2. which of your characters do you typically resonate most closely with? do you base any characters off of yourself?

it depends the fic i guess. and not really, i think the closest i’ve been to do that is in the rockstar au (coming to the @bottomlouisficfest very soon), i put one or two of my old insecurities in h so he could connect better and wouldn’t be persieved as just an asshole-y dude cause i don’t like that and louis don’t deserve that uwu🌸

3. where do you often find inspiration?

before the quarantine i had around 3 wips, now i have 8

the easiest is the dialogues, i could write pages and pages of just dialogues in hours and the hardest is the smut dhjdd

it depends, is the antagonist? i ask myself how’d i feel if i were them, like a third party just trying (and usually failing) to get in between

hands down the ice prince fic. and funny thing is, i already had my prompt for the fic fest but i just couldn’t stop thinking about one particular prompt about a bratty prince and an alpha who hated omegas and the amount of POSSIBILITIES that had. two days later or so, the mods of the fest gave us the opportunity to pick another prompt if we wanted and the rest is HISTORY

Q: What are alternates?

so, i have seen something going around the mystic messenger fandom...and i would like to just share my thoughts on it. 

i would like to quickly add that this is just my opinion on it and my perspective. i also am not sure if this has been confirmed or not - but, either way, my personal thoughts mostly stay the same. 

in my eyes, it is no small thing what’s going around...whether this is a fictional story or not.

tw: heavy mentions of suicide and mental health. major spoilers ahead. 

i have had several discussions based on this going around. i have also seen it on instagram, heard it is going around on twitter and have seen it on tiktok.

i think, to go so far as to put something like that on another character is a bit much...even in a fictional game. it could, potentially, mess up a lot of people’s mindsets playing. i do not think it is a fair perspective on players or what this game is even about. it could also be possibly triggering to players. yoosung is depressed. he lost someone really close to him, that gave him motivation/inspiration. and his grades started slipping, he lost his drive and he just distracted himself with lolol without taking care of himself. and if we really look at it...no character takes care of themselves here. zen doesn’t eat properly...a diet of salad and beer, long hours. he sometimes smokes. jaehee works long hours without getting proper rest or meals - relies strictly on caffeine to keep going. jumin says he takes of himself but it is canon that people have seen him take multiple espresso shots to get going in the day at once. not to mention how he turns to drinking in different points of any route and his sleep schedule is crazy. saeyoung hardly sleeps either; just eats junk food, or mostly chips and soda, and struggles to take care of himself. jihyun is also not taking care of himself, including not receiving needed medical care, as he tries to solve everything going on in the background. saeran isn’t able to take care of himself either when you get to his route due to his situation, including further poisoning his body with the elixir. vanderwood is even in a similar position as saeyoung but, perhaps, dealing in different ways we have not seen much of yet.

so much of this can be attributed to, again, the stress every member is under due to their jobs, student life and situation. so much is attributed to their trauma, mental state, mental health... and so much we find out about in every route. it is also based around their relationships, families and secrets we uncover.

and, coming back to yoosung...i will say that, heartbreakingly, suicidal ideation may happen. and connecting it to the other members once more; there is a moment in jaehee’s route where jumin purposefully, while under the influence, endangers his own life. saeyoung is also severely depressed and “jokes” about his will to live at different points...and in jihyun’s after ending, when he believes his brother has passed, he no longer wants to live and has to be stopped by jumin and vanderwood. jihyun himself is so self-sacrificial...he is willing to risk his own life in order to protect others and to even prove his “love” to rika. and saeran does attempt suicide at the end of jihyun’s route after giving a farewell call to mc...and then has to be saved by jihyun who thanks god for him being alive. and, even before that, expresses (similarly to saeyoung) his lack of care for his own life. and mina (rika) is also shown to idealize self-harm and, perhaps, even suicide as well. 

...and then looping back to yoosung, i do think he is a character who needs help (much like everyone else in the game) and he does need to be acknowledged about this and for his struggles. his mental health, stress as a student, lack of motivation due to all of these facts and reeling from the “death” (another apparent suicide) of a family member close to him. again, i believe there may even be moments from yoosung about his own suicidal thoughts (i’m not denying this fact)...things said in passing based in moments of high emotion and severe depression. 

suicide, mental health/illness, including (in some contexts) suicidal ideation are all, heartbreakingly, major themes and subjects in mystic messenger. 

but, also, i have to add...that to say that someone would have committed suicide without another certain character...is detrimental to some of the positive themes shown in this story. themes of recovery, forgiveness and self-love. of showing actually getting better, healthier coping mechanisms and forming strong bonds with healthy relationships. 

perhaps, this theory (or fact, if it has been confirmed, i have not seen such confirmation yet though)...is saying, more in the sense, that without intervention for yoosung (and any member) these unhealthy coping mechanisms and pain they were going through would not have been properly acknowledged. it is a major part of the whole storyline to acknowledge their feelings and help them through that...to highlight the importance of that. (and not doing so, or encouraging further toxic behaviors, is what leads to the bad endings...this is not hating on completing bad endings or saying you shouldn’t do so - but that is what those can represent. and why only the good endings are considered canon.) 

but i fear that if anyone were to take the stance of “_____ would have killed themselves if _____ was not there” is almost along the lines of “i would no longer want to live if you were not here” or “i would k*ll myself if you were gone”...both of these mindsets are not okay, severely toxic and painful. and, in terms of forming healthy and strong bonds like these characters should (and eventually do)...it ruins the theme of that. the lesson in that.  

my point is; it is all about perspective and showing the deeper context of such a statement. and to please, please be careful when sharing such a statement or reading it.   every character in this story is not in a good place at all when you/mc/hana enter the picture. and, sure, it can be said that mc gives them that boost of energy (brings the spring breeze again, so to speak)...but, really, they just encourage them to do it themselves and talk to each other. while i love the hc where we can have a more active part in helping everyone - to say mc (or hana) does nothing as it is now is not true. 

they holds their hands, they are kind and they listen. they encourage them to take care of themselves and is just there through it. and when helping someone going through something - that’s what it’s really about. (there is no english translation for the webtoon yet so this part is just based on me skimming the chapters as they are released.) but hana seems to also be kind, encouraging and gives them that kick again. everyone in the rfa truly does care about each other and, sure, they needed someone to remind them again. but i genuinely think to take that dark of a possible “what if” is not fair to the story at all or the characters.

things like this never take just one person or are on one person’s back. it’s everyone involved - it’s a support system. that is just what the rfa needed to see more clearly. (even before mc came in and helped...it’s still said that, while the rfa were worried and didn’t know where to go from where they were...they still did use the chatroom as an outlet to talk to each other. so, they were getting there. could things have gotten more complicated if mc hadn’t come? yes...again, they changed the course tremendously. but for things to go that far is just...not true to me.) 

(side note: the only thing that makes me sad is how someone could be potentially left out when you’re on another route. it’s why i wish for a final route where you can help everyone. and/or what i’m wishing for the webtoon to be.) 

but each route gets to show the possibility of hope and recovery for every single character in this game - and how that strength and care and love was in them all along.  again, i have no idea about anything like that being confirmed or not. mental health is a HUGE theme in mystic messenger as a whole - but i take the perspective of what i said more when thinking about it either way. (along with some other things that I’ve posted about on tumblr before.) anyways, in your life, reach out for help if you need it. there is hope..support each other and you can find strength within yourself again. & in my opinion, when playing the game (or now reading the webtoon), that’s something it teaches and shows as well.

edit: this is not a “this is right and this is wrong” post. things are never black and white - mental health and recovery is never linear. i just want to add that in case anything here came across as preachy or like i was trying to sound...well, lecturing even. i am not a professional by any means and am just someone who also struggles with their own mental health. so, i hope nothing in this post came across as offensive, hurtful or insensitive.

my first creation was a gifset of chanyeol during his power photoshoot ! it wasn’t the best thing because i was quite new to giffing and didn’t know anything at all about colouring or other effects, but i’m still proud of myself. and for my most recent creation, i’ve tried checking dates to see when i posted because i don’t remember at all sjjd but i’m assuming it’s most likely this lavender!yeol set i made ? because it’s the last one i recall making ajsjjd

i don't want people like bullying these authors OR glorifying their actions bc they're just people and these are just books but yeah like uhh i think some of the stuff getting published is super weird especially when it's so blatantly obvious it's published fic and especially when it's being published in mainstream circles

During my mental break, I’ve been trying to recover from a traumatic experience that occurred last month…I probably won’t be venting about my life anytime soon. But it is really messed up. Anywho, been resting, practicing mindfulness, my period came on, so I’ve been trying to control my temper, etc. 

But here’s an update, I did some more artwork. I’m going to give you that today. I’m going to recommend a few apps, youtube channels, and show off some artists and musicians, in this post. I’ll also mention some servers for you guys to join. In also munching on some organic cinnamon bears by the Wholesome brand. You can’t beat them. 

Apps I use on my phone!

Here’s some apps I use in my everyday life. Some you have to pay a little more for but it’s definitely worth it.

But since a TikTok is getting banned in the US and China, I thought well, might try this out. Despite TikTok’s racism and shadowbanning, I liked making small little clips. No matter how embarrassing it is. So give it a try you never know.

Polarr | https://apps.apple.com/us/app/polarr-photo-editor/id988173374 | Okay. I had to include this app into this list. Y’know? This is my favorite photo editing program. It’s simple, it’s sleek, and it’s so fun to mess around with stuff in your photos. I never knew this great of an app exists a year ago? You can add effects, get rid of some unwanted features, or just do a simple touch up. It’s available on the computer, and tablet and phone.

Telegram | https://apps.apple.com/us/app/telegram-messenger/id686449807 | it’s a messenger app. Yes. I know. But! Hear me out! You can set it up to have this so password protected. It encrypts all of your conversations. You get all kinds of stickers to include in your conversations. Honestly? It’s fun, interactive, and safe from unwanted eyes. 

Notebloc | https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notebloc/id1077023687 | oh my gosh what can you do. It’s a free app. With premium scanning capabilities, at no cost to you. It’s amazing to be honest I believe it’s better than Evernote. Just give it a shot.

Watch his videos.Neebs Gaming | My favorite series on this channel (and I’m currently listening to) is his Subnautica series. It is absolutely hilarious. It’s great. This guy(s) turned this game and made a video show out of it, it’s so laughable. I love it. 

Adrian Von Ziegler | Beautiful channel, perfect inspiration music. D&D campaign music! And taking Celtic Music back to its roots. Oh my gosh it’s absolutely amazing.
