If people can understand that it would be fucked up and at best morally questionable for an author to use their fiction to support something like genocide but be hiding behind the 'its just fiction lol' label then idk why it's so hard for readers or consumers of 'dark media' to not try to defend the actions being portrayed in that media and to understand when someone is literally saying 'yea enjoy it all you want just don't defend the actions pls'.
I don't get how someone can get more clear than that and isn't that the whole point anyway?
For example if supporting a fictional rapist like Homelander means you don't actually condone rape irl—
THEN WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU DEFEND OR DENY HIM CANONICALLY BEING A RAPIST IN THE FICTION?
At least and I mean the very least people can do is acknowledge 'yes he's an asshole and yes he's wrong for this but it's fiction so I still love him' NOT say 'its fiction lol' and then turn around and also say the LITERAL RAPIST 'did nothing wrong uwu' and seriously like legit honest to god mean that?? Like do y'all even hear yourselves sometimes?
Don't tell me it's a joke either cause you can normally tell who's joking/trolling and who's wanking it to the smell of their own bs and I'm not talking about the former.
It doesn't matter if you're practicing it with a fictional character. Pulling this kind of shit is still rape apologia (or whatever adjacent) whether you are 'hiding behind fiction' or not. To see people instantly throw a tantrum about it when called out like good lord. I know most those people either didn't or can't read but don't use fiction as an excuse for apologia of any type. Plain and simple. Yes you can still like and enjoy and make dark media—literally just don't be an apologist because believe it or not it's actually pretty easy to say 'i love him' and 'he's a fucking moron with an infinite crimes list that deserves all the hate' at the same time and have both be true.
If liking the dark fiction doesn't mean you support the evil things happening or being done by your fave then prove it.

Magnus' Spooky Recommendations! 🎃
To get into the mood for today, here are Magnus’ favorite scary recommendations! I’m organizing them into sections for convenience. These are a combination of short stories, books, movies, and even a couple albums. Feel free to share your spooky recs; I love discovering new scary things to love!
Haunted Houses! 👻
“Stone Animals” by Kelly Link (mind-bending): A haunted house story that is so incredibly claustrophobic it made me dissociate the first two times I read it. Mind-bending is a good way to describe it. “Stone Animals” is a very long short story, but it’s such an atmospheric read that it doesn’t feel like it drags. A haunted house that drives the entire family living inside it nuts in unique ways. I highly recommend it, but don’t read it on an airplane like I did (the second time around).
Coraline (2009), dir. Henry Selick (childhood favorite): Neil Gaiman’s actions aside, the movie is a fantastic piece of media that enchanted baby Magnus and horrified his mother. The soundtrack is one of my favorite albums ever, and gets played in my car on multiple playlists all the time. It’s a classic for a reason, though not my favorite Laika film, because I refuse to let it top ParaNorman.
Guts! Guts! Guts! 🩸
Alien Virus Love Disaster by Abby Mei Otis (gore, with feelings!): Take a dip into the grotesque with this gnarly short story collection from Small Beer press. The stories range from more emotional with less nasty bits (“Moonkids”, “Not an Alien Story”, “If You Could Be God of Anything”) to body horror (“I’m Sorry Your Daughter Got Eaten by a Cougar”) to a story that actually made me gag when I read it (“Rich People”). Otis has something for every lover of the grotesque in this collection.
Visions of Bodies Being Burned & There Existed an Addiction to Blood by clipping. (love letter to horror): A trippy, hair-raising pair of albums that brings horrorcore to clipping.’s industrial noiserap. (Yes, I am pretentious like that.) Two of the most interesting albums to ever be released. My favorite hits include “Enlacing”, “Blood of the Fang”, “Club Down”, “La Mala Ordina”, and “Looking Like Meat”. Daveed Diggs’ vocals are unmatched.
Hannibal, dir. Bryan Fuller (tasteful cannibalism): One of my favorite seasonal re-watches. Season one is my favorite, especially the mushroom episode. Some of the most beautiful cinematography on television I’ve ever seen. Also, fabulous gender-swapping of characters in Thomas Harris’ works.
Psychological! 🧠
You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman (peel your skin off discomfort): This book is uncomfortable. It was part of my inspiration for my senior capstone project, Body, and it definitely shows. The main character’s roommate tries to become her. With targeted ads, weird cults, and a general sense of not belonging in your body, Kleeman really makes you want to peel off your skin to get a little more comfortable. (Or to see who’s really under there.)
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (mind-bending): Both the movie and the novel have left me stunned. Even if you know the twist through cultural osmosis, I highly recommend both. Another piece of media that has made me dissociate multiple times after consuming. While I’m not a fan of Palahniuk’s other works, he really hit it out of the park with Fight Club.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt (atmosphere to die for): A great piece of psychological literary fiction where bad people do bad things and reap the consequences. Is it a pretentious pick? Probably. But I still adore it. My mom adores it, and that means something, because she’s super picky about psychological horror. I’m making my grandmother read it. It’s a classic for a reason.
Witches, Magic, & Folk Horror! 🐈‍⬛
ParaNorman (2012), dir. Sam Fell & Chris Butler (love letter to horror): My senior yearbook quote was from this movie; I’ve written academic papers about this movie; I have Norman Babcock tattooed on my calf forever. Of course this movie would be on here. It’s a love letter to cheesy 80s horror movies. This movie is my ultimate comfort and my favorite feel-good movie to cry to.
The Witch (2015), dir. Robert Eggers (atmosphere to die for): The most accurate historical portrayal of Calvinist culture I’ve ever seen on screen, while being compelling. We watched this in my witches class. It’s genuinely one of the most perfect films on witches I’ve ever seen.
The Ritual (2017), dir. David Bruckner (atmosphere to die for): If I could watch this again for the first time, I would choose it in a heartbeat. A top-tier piece of psychological horror that leaves you feeling like you’re right there with the characters. Moder is one of the best creatures I’ve ever seen, designed by Keith Thompson (who also designed Ratma in “Storm Drain” from VHS 94).
“The Ghost You Left Behind” by Magnus Singer-McLeod (love letter to the genre): I have to promote my own short story here because this is my blog and I make the rules. We've got psychics, ghosts, missing people, demons, and a gay romance; it’s got a little bit of everything I love about the autumn season. I’m biased, but I highly recommend.
Eco-Horror! 🪲
“42”, Doctor Who (BURN WITH ME): A cheesy, time-sensitive eco-horror episode. It has all the best hallmarks of the RTD era, including my beloved Martha Jones. A fun watch!
Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (atmosphere to die for): The first time I read this book, I read it in a day. It’s a fast read I pull out when I’m in a slump and just need a weird, atmospheric read to pull me into the world of the Weird. Having a biologist as the main character makes the setting of Area X shine. She’s so deeply fascinated by the weird place she’s in that you’re pulled in just as much as she is. So fucking creepy. (Shoutout to the bear scene in the movie, which makes my skin crawl.)
Polar Trauma! ❄️
Solar Trauma by Philip Sorenson (peel your skin off discomfort): This poetry collection is loosely based on The Thing, and inspired my own hivemind poetry collection. It is so fucking good. Grotesque, psychological, uncomfortable. One of the strangest, most fascinating poetry collections I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
The Thing (1982), dir. John Carpenter (perfect creature work): One of the greatest body horror films of all time. The practical effects are unmatched. A horror movie where everyone is intelligent, realistic, and untrustworthy. “The Ultimate in Alien Terror” doesn’t even begin to cover it. I will go through periods where I watch this movie every single night for a month without growing tired of it.
The Terror (2018), dir. David Kajganich & Soo Hugh (atmosphere to die for): As someone who’s read both the book and watched the show, just watch Wendigoon’s video on the topic instead of reading the novel for historical context, then watch the show. The creeping sense of dread is nearly unparalleled. Tuunbaq is one of the most terrifying creatures I’ve ever laid eyes on. Colonizers meet their fate, and it is both horrifically tragic and incredibly justified. Fantastic rewatch value.

Sometimes she will say something like, “The trees. They speak to me..they’re happy that it rained.”
Extra Info
Her biological parents were like royalty in her small planet across the south coast of the planets. Far from behind the other universes or planets nearby, simple people. Like down to earth country folks were the people on her planet. Everyone and everything looked like Earth with a fairytale style in the architecture (very much like Naboo). Their technological advances were slower than other planets, since they shared and borrowed from one another. But no one cared. Rather rich themselves in the minimalistic living instead.
Some rarely gifted with certain abilities when they reached a certain point in their lives, meanwhile someone are not. One powers that only some elders held dear, that few past onto their children were to remember their past lives. Such as soulmates.
Her home looked like an Enchanted Forest, the ones you would hear in fairy tales crafted to share with little girls to imagine when they play dress up. She was kinda a loner growing up, having her books of fairytales and action filled stories of heroes to read.
One day she was stepped around the streets when a voice called her, consumed and curious she followed. Her dress flew behind her, walking until she saw that appeared to a wishful bouncing voice, belonging to a tall man. He was magical in a sense, convincing to anyone who listen.
“Hello?” She asked, fixing her dress and gasping at the suited man, “Who are you?”
“W-who am i? Well I’m your ticket to advertising adventures dear.” Reply the said with a kind smile, “I’m Roland.”
“My ticket to where?”
“Well Princess Shay-era, you are a very good girl. You don’t deserve to leave in this dump of a planet, but to bring your gifts to others.”
“M-my gifts?”
“Why yes of course. Your gifts. No offense, but do you really wanna be stuck in a place with no longing a little thing like you?”
Shayera crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes, “What’s your game, pirate? What about my parents?”
“You’re planet was doomed to death anyway, just like the otherwise beautiful ones on this side of the galaxy. We rather saved your ass now.” He said with a shrugged smile and secretly he opens a portal.
“We..? Uh, w-who sent you?”
“You’re mother. She knew you wouldn’t want to listen without a little push.”
“My mama..? Wait—”
—-
The said portal opened and slides underneath her feet, Shayera landed asleep and shipped off world. She wasn’t brought with much, expect a few items. The portal trip was fine until she was knocked off course resulting, in her form landing in the phantom zone for weeks.
Finally she woke up to the pretty sky. Coachella Valley, in California. Her eyes were closed but sun shine still peaked into her face. She heard a young couple talking over her body. They were kind people from what she heard.
Shayera’s eyes gently blinked open catching the couples eyes. From their perspective, sweet young bright eyed little girl in a blush pink soft dress landed a few feet away from their home. It was a charming sight. The pair always wanted children and thought it was a gift from the universe.
“Hi sweetie, what’s your name?” Asked the women, Rosita.
“I don’t know..not remember..I’m sorry..” Said the girl looking at the couple confused but with a sense of familiarity in her eyes.
The man, Sean smiled, “It’s okay, we’re take you in.”
She smiled, gentle love in her eyes. They returned it, the couple named her Lyra Olivia Cruz. After Sean’s mom and Rosita’s grandmother.

Years went on, Lyra lived a normal life as a teenager. School, friends, traveling to different place, reading and watching movies, shopping and so much more. Sure weird things happened over the city, in which her and her good friends coined it as ‘The Wall Of Weird’. Posting everything that happened onto the school newsletter and journal the ones they didn’t say anything about for themselves.
Sometimes it was like a damn comic book or music happened right before their eyes.
Until one day over the spring time, Lyra developed theses annoying headaches and decided to detox her body in the backyard nearby the small flowers she grew with her mother. It worked like a charm taking it all in, the fresh air, the sun and the greenery around her. Her fingers ran across the grass then flowers, as her hand sparkled. The flowers grew a little bit as Lyra looked at her face gasping in shock. Poor girl screamed, she though she was dreaming.
And her first thought afterwards was…
“MAMI! I THINK I GOT POWERS!?” She yelled calling her mother stumbling back in the house, practically falling face first on the wooden flooring. “Ow…” She added shortly.
Her mom was confused for a moment until Lyra showed her, more or less. After her dad came home from work, they had a long talk. Sean and Rosita told her what they know, that wasn’t much for neither of her parents to off on. The two felt sorry. They told Lyra that she was sent here in a pink dress, wearing a pair of dusty rose earrings and a small notebook that kept drawing in them. To their surprise, their daughter wasn’t mad at them or worried about anything. She knew she was loved and sent her as a blissing for a chance to live a good life.
As she started to work on her small scale of skills she promised to use her powers for good care, not destroying or manipulate nature. Eventually her friends found out finding it super cute and interesting.

Tumblr media
Everything was great until after senior year, she moved up to Central City to start exploring her job as an artist. Yes she does have the opportunity in California to draw and sell her art, but she wanted a different environment as a landscape for her cartoons. She was chatting on the phone with a friend when she noticed a young woman about to trampled over by a incoming speeding car.
She noticed a abandoned flower stand nearby, the man left for a break. So in result Lyra wiggled her fingers sparkling a dusty rose color as the flowers stretched out and grew wrapping themselves up gently pushing the woman away. It was a very subtle movement. Lyra released her touch on the flowers as they went back to their original form.
Lyra looked around hoping no one truly noticed, buying the said flower, leaving the money on the flower cart and walked away. They were tulips her favorite. However she was wrong, the woman who she saved did notice and a few days later found her at Jitters Coffee Shop.
Leanna O’ Conner was called in by her friend Officer Penny Spivet to see her.
Tumblr media
Lyra refused the idea, she wasn’t one to use her powers very often and doesn’t want to be like the hero The Blur or anything.
Leanna wasn’t suggesting that and said, “Girl I ain’t asking for you to do that. But you were spotted and tracked by a camera, your smart and sweet and kind. We could use you on the team, every once in a while.”
“I’ll think about it..what do you know about me?” Lyra asked curiously.
“You grew up in Cali, you studied news and stories eventually becoming a artist for the paper. And you can manipulate planets?”
“I can control and manipulate them to grow or even strengthen themselves.”
“If you come by to the labs, I’ll like to see it sometime.”
The sometime came soon as the day she visited, The Team Flash was fighting King Shark. She had to help them by growing a cage from the ground up to hold him off in the park until they can get handcuffs on the huge half animal. Caitlin and Iris grinned impressed. Once it was done, Lyra agreed to come over every once in a while to help, but she was more than happy to hang out with the crew.
Her, Cisco and the others would do movie nights. Referencing comic books, tv shows and movies. In their universes, Marvel was a common thing that would mention among pop culture.
The superheroes in a barn reference, excelsior, spidey senses tingling, superhero landing, Hulk references, X-Men and etc. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, so much more being named dropped ever so causally no one bats an eye!
—-
One day Iris even mentioned, “You said you were touched on journalism right?”
“Yeah? I usually do the doodles.” She replied one day as the girls were hanging out.
“Do you know a column called ‘The Wall Of Weird’? It was popping up on again on my throwback new feed.”
“Hahahahaha! I do actually, cause i help write it.”
“No way!”
“Yeah it was a fun thing we dropped online, I didn’t know it reached cities.”
“Girl it’s the Internet, of course it did.”
—-
Hell Lyra when met Kara Danvers and others, she fell head over heels in love. Yeah she loved the other teams but Team Supergirl was unique.
Tumblr media
With her being from technically another planet, the colorful city, the similarities between perspective she shared, and Winn was her absolute favorite. All having to save each other at least once. Oh did I mentioned how nerdy everyone was with certain things? It was super cool!
Winn opened the door where she locked in and yelled out grinning, “Hi! I’m um here to rescue you, princess.”
Even though she was chained up, Lyra grinned and gasps, “Hmm. Aren’t you a little short to be a stormtrooper?”
“You rewatched Star Wars without me?!”
“Actually it was me and James!”
“Traitors! Me and Kara rewatched Wizard Of Oz without you guys.”
“You traitors!”
Alex was a badass, Lyra supporting her every single step of the way to her journey. In result, Alex helped her try to find more of her heritage whenever asked.
She was one of the most supportive people in her life and vise versa.
Plus she wouldn’t lie saying she had a small crush on Supergirl. I mean how could you not have a crush on Kara Danvers?! She’s adorable!
Also, they worked together so they get to see each other almost every day. Other days they were chilling together.
“You’re gonna love me forever. Close your eyes!” Lyra said running into the apartment.
“Okay? Please tell me it’s a puppy!” Kara yelled out with her eyes closed.
“Okayyyy! Now open ‘em.”
Kara gasped seeing pizza from their favorite restaurant, donuts from the shop across from CatCo, and a dvd of the film The Great Gatsby.
“OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU!” Kara yelled in glee hugging her.
“HAHAHA! IT WAS NO BIGGIE!” Lyra yelled back hugging her.
——
If you wonder if she gets to see her friends and family, Kara and Lyra are able portal or teleport using a device Cisco made. Winn sometimes had to adjust the schedule or corrected coordinates for travel.
Sometimes it leads her into trouble bouncing from once place or universe to the next…
Thank you for reading this! I hope enjoy it 💞

Let’s Talk About Fairy Tail!
Before you start reading this just know that this does contain spoilers up to the end of the show. Also. YES. I will go on for hours about this show if you let me.
Recently I finished my third? fourth? rewatch of the Fairy Tail anime and was once again reminded how much I love it. Now I’m not one who likes to rank my favorite shows or have “Top 5’s” and the like, but Fairy Tail would definitely be at the top of mine if I did. It has definitely become one of my top comfort shows.
I started watching anime sometime around 2018, so I haven’t been in the anime community for long, nor was I around when Fairy Tail started and when all of the opinions on the series were being voiced. Not long after I got into Fairy Tail, I learned that there was a lot of hate around it that I never really understood. Is it perfect? No, it definitely has its flaws. But many fan favorites aren’t.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think what most people don’t understand, and need to, is that everybody consumes different media for different reasons. What I might be looking for in a show is not the same as what you are looking for in a show. One of the biggest tropes that Fairy Tail has and plays into is found family”. This is the main reason that I keep coming back to watch this series. For individuals like me, who have always struggled to fit in and connect with their family, this is huge! This series makes you feel like a part of the guild, and like you are part of their created family. The guild accepts and embraces all of the differences and personalities of its members, something that people like me wished our families could do. They will do whatever they can to help each other. It is mentioned all the time how the guild is like a family, with Makarov always referring to its members as his “children”. I have never wished to crawl into my screen and be part of a fictional world more than this one.
Fairy Tail is a series that is bright, colorful, and full of hope and joy. It also is full of action and adventure. I’ve seen the argument that one of its problems is that nobody ever dies and there is too much “power of friendship”, but is that really such a bad thing? Sometimes we need the lightheartedness and comfort knowing that our favorite characters are going to be ok, and make it out alive. To put it into fanfic terms: sometimes we need a little more fluff, and less angst. There are plenty of other series that specialize in tackling more serious topics and dramatics. If I wanted to watch a bunch of people get killed, I’d go watch Attack on Titan. I’m certainly not watching that for its wholesome vibes. Reality already has so much intensity and drama. If I’m trying to escape from it for a bit, am I really escaping if the media I’m consuming is also full of it?
When it comes to pulling at your heartstrings, Fairy Tail actually does a pretty good job at that without anybody dying. For starters, the Tartaros arc as a whole is emotional. Between fanfics and edits that I had seen prior, I was aware of Aquarius’s key getting broken and her leaving before I even watched that episode. However when I did watch it, even knowing it was going to happen, it tore me up. I cried so hard. Don’t even get me started on the dragons at the end of the arc. Another emotional moment for me was during the Tenrou arc when Cana told Gildarts that she was his daughter. That moment made me tear up, but with happy tears. It’s especially endearing to see how they changed and adapted to that new relationship over the course of the rest of the series, especially Gildarts.
Tumblr media
Speaking of character development, Fairy Tail actually does this well for some of the characters. Let’s start with Lucy. Yes. Lucy Heartfilia (I will not tolerate any Lucy hate)  has some great development. At the start of the series, she is shown to be scared and hesitant during missions and fights, and relying on the others to take care of business. Gradually she becomes stronger, both with her magic and mentality. Her growth feels like a natural and realistic progression. Come the end of the series Lucy has unlocked new and powerful sides to her magic, and fights alongside the others. Honestly, considering her background as a socialite, her development is even more impressive. I could write a whole ass essay about her character if I’m honest. It’s tempting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. Here’s my hot take: I don’t think that the fanservice in Fairy Tail is as bad as people make it out to be. Yes it is there, I'm not trying to say that it isn't, but for me, I don’t think it ever really took away from the story. Off the top of my head, there is mainly one instance that sticks out to me where I felt that it was excessive and unnecessary, and that was during the Grand Magic Games arc during Mirajane and Jenny’s battle. I also want to point out that it is the same characters who have the most fanservice that are deemed the strongest, while being simultaneously feared and looked up to for that strength. The fanservice is not their only character defining trait. I think if it were, then it would be a problem.
Tumblr media
Some time after I started writing this (which I have been doing on and off for awhile now) I came across this video on TikTok that talked about one of Fairy Tail’s best factors is its enjoyability, and I loved that simplistic explanation of the series.
I have so many more thoughts about this series, but I’ll stop here. My other thoughts might eventually get their own posts. Especially if I feel like spending time focusing on specific characters or moments (that Lucy character analysis is itching for me to write it). On that note, I am always down to scream about Fairy Tail if you are!

Hello there! This is for the matchups!
Song: Guns for Hire from the Netflix show Arcane :) I'm hyperfixating on it because I associated this song with a scene from an Interactive Fiction game I'm following called Leas: City of the Sun (it's a fantasy romance game and I love it so much) For specifics, I love this lyric itself but also the way it was sung was chef's kiss -> With all this weight buckling down on you now/ Don't you drown and float away (I love the pre-chorus too but yeah -> You're out of time make your move/ Live or die while the fuse is lit/ And there's no turning back)
MBTI: It's always one of two of these options -> ISTP and ISFP (I think I'm more of an ISFP tho)
Childhood imaginary friend: I never had one (sad, I know) but I always spoke to my stuffed animals :)
Hobbies: I love writing and drawing in my spare time. It helps me to relax and I usually listen to music that fits the vibe of what I'm writing or drawing as well
Fall asleep to: I never do this on purpose but majority of the time I fall asleep to any kind of ASMR but majority of the time it's ASMR/audio roleplays
Fav R.Audios: David's hoodie audio, Milo's audio where Sweetheart heals him, Milo's ACTUAL sleep aid and Gavin's confession audio. I've also been listening to James' Past/Present audio and I love the Inversion hehe
Don't vibe with: Regulus :) this is absolutely no hate to him but I'm just not a fan of obsessive or possessive characters
R.Audio bestie: I love Huxley. I wouldn't date him but he would be such a great friend :)
Memorised movies: I know all the words to Mulan and Tangled. It's unhealthy
Favourite media (?): My favourite K-drama is Flower of Evil (it's a mystery-thriller romance) and I absolutely love League of Legends: Arcane on Netflix. My favourite webtoon is Purple Hyacinth and it's a mystery with some action and has really hot main characters heh :)
Favourite books/authors: I don't read very often but if I had to choose a favourite book it would probably be The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I also love reading Leigh Bardugo
Fav animal: Cats. Very generic but if I had to choose an animal I would like to be, it would be a cat.
Fav foods: Chicken and potatoes in any form. Very basic but I love it if it is made well
Thanks so much and I hope you have a great day/night! <3

INFP's seem to be characterized by their unique, open, and spontaneous nature. They bring a lot of creativity and fun to the lives of everyone they meet, and I think Lasko could really benefit from a partner like that.
It would make a lot of sense that Lasko, being a workaholic, would forget to make time for the hobbies that bring him joy, like video games and TTRPGs. It’d be so lovely the two of you to sit and be creative together, whether that be writing, drawing, or just consuming art. Lasko seems like he’d enjoy a good Asian drama, I feel this in my soul.
Also, Tangled is one of Lasko’s absolute favorite movies. A young, naive child with special powers and an authoritarian guardian breaking out of a prison to go on a journey where they find self-discovery and love? He eats that shit UP. You serenade him with I See the Light, and it turns him into an adorable mess.
Song:
Ooh, like Sunday I'll pray our love will always stay pure/ Ooh, while the world turns around, he holds me down for sure
Ooh, yes, I am delightfully intimate with the Arcane soundtrack. That was a hyperfixation of mine last year. (ViktorxReader is actually what got me back into writing fanfiction- a little peak behind the emerald curtain lol) So I had to give you the fun, sweet love song off of it. I don’t know if it’s his genre- Lasko’s taste in music eludes me- but I can see him hearing that song and it bringing him joy and it reminds him do you (especially if the two of you watch Arcane and look forward to season 2 together!)
Runner-Ups:
Wouldn’t it be, like, so cute to be the one to show Sam modern media and movies? This man has absolutely no clue what League of Legends is, and you are about to get him so cowboy-hat-deep in lore. Next, hear me out… Eric deserves love and something more in his life, and I think you are just the person to bring it.
Note: Song of Achilles broke me gosh I’m sad now lol jk thank you for giving me an excuse to binge the Arcane soundtrack while I wrote this 🧡

"and yes, i said straight even in the case of hq & ivy because there's no universe in which they actually read as gay/bi and i'll always stand by that. they exist the way they do because bruce timm, jimmy palmiotti and whoever else followed in their long line of writers thought some chick on chick action was sexy. that's no representation."
Tell me that you've never actually read the majority of Harley and Ivy comic or the things that've led to their romantic relationship developing the way it has without telling me. I'm sorry, but you sound genuinely stupid. There's definitely an argument about the Bruce Timm, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti writing and the way they frame moments. But Bruce Timm drew them more than he wrote them, he didn't have a direct hand in a lot of those plots in terms of the actual content, and Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti are just in general awful writers for Harley Quinn. The idea you could consume anything including Harley and Ivy and Not See how utterly gay they are is ridiculous. It goes back to comics like Batgirl Adventures and Gotham City Sirens literally confirmed Ivy's romantic feelings in a part that wasn't written by any of those folks.
Are we supposed to just pretend that DC is notorious for not allowing LGBT focused plots, cause, like, yeah, a lot had to be subtle or it wasn't going to be allowed past the viewing stage. Not even heroic characters like Batwoman were allowed those sorts of primary plots for a Long Time.
"i said straight even in the case of hq & ivy because there's no universe in which they actually read as gay/bi and i'll always stand by that." You should read more. Cause this is just sad. Especially in times when comics like their current ongoings exist, where they are explicitly sapphic and into women.
i love how the vast majority of your argument is that it was dini not timm that wrote harley & ivy and how could i forget the other dude instrumental in finding chick on chick action sexy? look, i don't know if you're a follower or some random freak who found my untagged post but i do have to laugh at the idea that i wouldn't know that homosexuality was frowned upon in media for 'a long time'. yeah, gee, no kidding. not like 80% of this blog is comic history or anything.
okay, look, as far as i'm concerned harley & ivy are as gay as lesbian porn is. is there technically a gay couple involved? yeah, i suppose. is it made entirely for male consumption and cannot be counted as representation by any means? yes, absolutely.
believe it or not, i've read a lot more of both of them than i would've ever liked because harley's presence in comics is completely inescapable and once upon a time i was a batman enthusiast. see, 'explicitly sapphic and into women' doesn't do it for me and i wouldn't trust anybody who unironically uses the term sapphic to begin with lmao but the way fandom treats ivy as some sort of lesbian icon despite her long history with men (her whole entire shtick is controlling men by kissing them, the hq cartoon even has her as pretty clearly bisexual) is ridiculous and so's the fact that the two of them have become the single most famous & visible same-sex couple in comics.

honest to god this is as good as it gets? these is a random smattering of examples from memory but you think this honest to god the pinnacle of representation right here?
when i call harley & ivy effectively straight women written for the enjoyment of the writer/artist or male audiences i'm not doubting the validity of their fictional feelings for each other, i'm doubting the intentions behind the way they're presented. there's a reason they're the most popular lgbt characters in comics, there's a reason what's effectively an open relationship that can be discarded at any time is so widely preferred to any other alternative and that's not even counting the way harley quinn & poison ivy as separate characters are and have been sexualized like there's no tomorrow. i'm sorry, man, but you're the one sounding stupid to me.

I specifically hate the "pro ship vs anti ship" stuff because they are so clearly not fighting in the same argument.
People who say they're pro ship are like: people should be allowed to enjoy whatever fiction they want and small writers on ao3 shouldn't be harassed over their content. Purity culture is a big problem.
And then the people who say they're anti ship are saying: pedophilia is bad and major companies and content producers painting toxicity and harmful relationships in a good light or romanticising things like that should stop.
And it's confusing because, yes. To all of it. Those aren't mutually exclusive.
The term "fiction affects/doesn't affect reality" is much too black and white. Each 'side' is meaning different things when they say it, in different discussions all together.
"Mainstream media shouldn't promote unhealthy things and depict them as okay" is a good statement
Depiction isn't always condoning the actions" is also a good statement"
"It is not anyone's business but your own about what you enjoy reading or writing, and people should not be harassed over any conventially non-pure content they make/consume" IS ALSO A GOOD STATEMENT.
A lot of this discourse surrounding these issues becomes divided before it even begins because people assume the other 'group' believes something that is too much of a blanket statement to cover every factor in the situation. Most in these circles seem to have preconceived notions on how bad faith people who don't fully agree with them are being.
So nobody has a proper discussion on these (very interesting and debatable) topics because they are too busy accusing the others of something they associate with being "pro ship" or "anti ship" that probably isn't true at all for the majority of people
!! yep. And there are also a lot of different stances, both more and less extreme, outside of those two main ones, which just makes the label essentially "whatever you want to be angry at" because I'm sure you could find One Guy who believes the things you want to be angry about. The labels are more than worthless. Just say what you actually mean.
and god, the "fiction does/doesn't effect reality" debate is mind-numbing.

you know people can oppose the death penalty in real life and also want the FICTIONAL catharsis of seeing a character who's been predatory to multiple women get killed, right?
Bestie, I understand catharsis writing, it’s my entire coping mechanism, and also not what my post was about.
Besides the fact that I wrote it as a frustrated ramble at 4-something-a.m. my post was specifically about why I think Batman as an already established character shouldn’t kill. And on top of that, how many people genuinely don’t seem to understand this is a boundary he set for himself and how frankly speaking upsetting it is that they speak so frivolously about it. Because very often you don’t hear “oh, the Joker made Batman/Bruce Wayne personally suffer so much, so Batman deserves to kill/hurt him” but “the Joker hurt X and I want Batman to do something about it”.
The post wasn’t even specifically about the Joker. You could make it about Ra’s or KGBeast or Scarecrow or Mad Hatter - they’ve all hurt people.
And yes, I understand the catharsis of seeing a representative of painful actions getting hurt/dying in turn. I win so hard at minority bingo, trust me, there are enough people I wish would experience the pain they inflict on me just once in their miserable fucking life.
But my post wasn’t about that kind of catharsis.
You know what my post was about? Respecting boundaries. Something that I also don’t experience too often. It was about boundaries specific to the genre that Batman as a character inhabits.
Perhaps using “none of you fuckers understand why the death penalty is bad” was an ill-fitting exaggeration on my 2 minute rage written tumblr post I didn’t expect to get more than a 100 notes from my mutuals who know my taste and takes on media, but tbh? If you look at the notes, the number of takes going “well Batman shouldn’t kill but the state—“ is kind of,,, weird too? Because again, Batman, as a fictional character in a very specific type of genre, believes I’m second, third, and fourth chances. Believes in telling even the Joker “you can get better if you try”. Believes that there shouldn’t be more killing, no matter how heavy the guilt.
And I find that very comforting.
So yeah, I am, in fact, very well aware of how what you want in fiction differs from what you believe in real life.
But im also very tired of people dragging Batman through the mud because he refuses to harm himself even more and believes that people can in fact get better even when they don’t believe it themselves, or don’t even want to.
I don’t need a hero who hurts everyone remotely bad in his vicinity. I want to read about a character who wants to save everyone, who believes everyone is worth saving.
So yeah, uh, genuinely, go read your catharsis Joker beat down fics if that helps you deal with whatever bullshit capitalism and the patriarchy throws at us today. Consume the media that makes you happy, just, don’t act as if there isn’t a point to Batman?

Listen I’m going to start this with the fact that I’m in a foul mood, I’m running off lack of sleep, a very busy day at work, and now people trying to be the morality and tone police on me because I rightfully tagged my content as anti rhys and somehow got someone who wandered over to my tag where I addressed Rhys’s more problematic and abusive behavior and I’m sick of people making justifications like “He’s a fictional character” or “He’s a fae, he’s not supposed to be a good guy” (and yes I know the fae are morally grey creatures, but that doesn’t mean I HAVE to agree with their actions)
A lot of people consume various form of media, I was a person where my parents sat me down in front of tvs and let me read books to learn about the world. I can tell you a lot of forms of media shape the way we think and feel.
Also I’m allowed to hate a fictional character especially if he reminds me of one of my abusers, so no I will not take away MY and OTHERS safe space to talk about abuse in a way that helps us cope and process what all has happened to us just because people just want people want to defend fictional characters like it’s their job. People are allowed to dislike a love interest because they see it as toxic and concerning behavior, they’re allowed to point it out and tell people that in reality no one should be treating you this way. And before anyone goes “they should already know that” please note that some of this fandom comes from abusive and neglectful backgrounds where their family will leave them to their own devices and say “Figure it out yourself.” So no not everyone knows that the way Rhys acts towards Feyre should be frowned upon. Not everyone knows what a healthy vs unhealthy relationship is, because to some of us any attention is good attention, any sort of love whether it be toxic or not, feels as quenching as water after you feel thirsty.
So do me and the rest of the Rhys antis a favor and block us. Go do things in your own fucking tags, because I refuse to not give my followers a safe space just because you want others to change their opinions so you can shape your own experience.
Sincerely,
A woman who would rather you go back to your tags where you can share your love for your favorite characters in peace instead of trying to tone police, morality police, and invalidate other experiences just because you don’t know how to block creators or tags….

@youaresuchastrangegirl Um, yes, excuse me? Little Miss Weebshit Icon? I did not ask you to write me an entire paragraph essay about how much you hate another successful bisexual female cartoonist that this time gave little girls queer representation that they need, and then go off on another paragraph of side notes in the tags where you mention you still like the work of that bisexual female cartoonists shitty straight ex boyfriend who you must know from reading the original tags of my original post you just reblogged, I clearly despise. Amity Blight is not a "real woman" she is a fictional child from a Harry Potter Cope Cartoon and how many other fictional boys from cartoons get to be "Chosen Ones" like excuse me? Good for her and she's not a woman and she's not real so you can fuck off.
Do you know normal people get tattoos of cartoons that have this much of an impact on them? Yeesh.
I am not "anti Dana Terrace" and I think her art style outside the Owl House is far more amazing than Alex's as her general body of work, including the Owl House, is far more superior to anything that Alex Hirsch has ever done, or will do, and I believe that he didn't deserve her and I hope that Dana goes on to have many further successes in the span of her career as artist and I look forward to the prospect of her making some interesting adult animation that I'd be happy to support in the future. As the real, flesh and blood woman she already is, I can also say I think that she's hot, kinda. 🤭
I don't know how old you are, but if you're a kid you should've taken the hint and kept away from this post because you completely missed the point and derailed and now I have to turn reblogs off again.
If you're an adult, I suggest you seek out some Live Action TV and other Adult Media with Real flesh and Blood women in them, and then feel free to write as many essays as you want dissecting the #Misogyny in that because consuming nothing but anime and children's cartoons is clearly doing nothing for your palette.
I do think YOU'RE the one who would heavily benefit from Going Outside and Touching Grass and Meeting a Real Woman GF (Girlfriend) though. :D
BYYYEEEEEE!!!!!!! ♥
(I actually kind of always wanted to do that but yes, PLEASE just delete my original post from your blog, since you're Blocked now.)
Someone with an Owl House Icon:
Tumblr media
Me: Well neither was Dana Terrace or her shitty ex boyfriend but maybe you only think Medrano is bad at what she does because you're obviously a kid and just shouldn't be watching her adult shows or clogging up the show/character tags for that matter?

Fiction is about conflict, drama and mistakes and the reasons and consequences behind human behavior. People make the mistake of conflating enjoying art with agreeing with what it depicts and that’s just not how consuming media works. I like hurt/comfort fanfic, but that doesn’t mean I want to see my partner beaten up. I really enjoy Hannibal, but that doesn’t mean I approve of cannibalism. What we read, watch, write or ship doesn’t reflect our character. If that were true, Stephen King and George R. R. Martin should both be in prison, and every fan of Die Hard would be on a watchlist. We enjoy stories because they take us outside of ourselves, into adventures we could never have and into the minds of people we could never be. That’s art. And while it’s always important to be critical and thoughtful about how and why we enjoy something, that should never keep you from liking what you like. And it certainly doesn’t make you a bad person.
uh, yeah? i'm aware of that, actually. english literature was my favourite and best class, and gothic literature specifically was where i tended to flourish because i personally enjoy darker themes. i find them very interesting and fun to work with.
i'm a little bit insulted by the patronizing tone of this ask, which was either inspired by my, honestly rather vague, post or it wasn't inspired by anything which just kind of makes you sound weird and pretentious??
if you sent this ask because of my comment about how i think billy hargrove sucks, then i think you need to get off your high horse. when i say billy sucks, i mean the character himself, who is a canonically abusive and racist person, who spends most of his screentime being a dick to everyone around him. I recognise and understand that he has his own trauma, but as someone surrounded by traumatised people in my every day life i know damn well that that doesn't excuse someones actions.
the thing is, part of me does like billy from a writers perspective because he can be a very interesting character, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a bit of a cunt, and if steve hadn't been there that night he would have killed lucas just because he was a black boy with a crush on [billy's] step-sister (who he didn't even care about??)
he's someone i can sympathise with, yes, but he's still a sucky person.
and finally: i'm allowed to think a character sucks, it's not like im sending fucking hate anons to billy hargrove blogs calling them racists, i made one comment in the tags of my own post.

There must be fans out there that are like "wtf" to the rest of the fans' actions right? Right????
Tumblr media
As 0 alacrity put it while we were talking, by the way, they're the one also helping me have evil little thoughts.
Here's a tl;dr of it, but a pretty good think piece is under the cut.
So, basically YES. But being just "wtf" doesn't do enough. Spamton very much has asked for help and believed in the common sense of people to help him get out of this situation, but like in any fandom, while extreme fans are not the majority, they're the ones bold enough to act upon their desires and do horrible stuff.
That includes doxing, harassing and possibly harming people who oppose them, and usually people with good sense kind of keep away from that for a good reason. So while there's critique and attempts to help, no one really has managed to do much more than just that.
Buckle up because this one's kinda long but a very interesting read.
BIG NOTE: Spamton is a fictional character, it is not to be taken literally as a "parasocial" relationship with him. It is a Commentary about how people approach RL CELEBRITIES/YOUTUBERS/CONTENT CREATORS/ ACTUAL PEOPLE WHO ARE POPULAR.
We have to put this as a note because there is a problem with media literacy and self projection of consumers while ignoring the bigger problem/commentary.
" The thing is you have to think about in every fandom, it's not like the crazy fans are the majority, but they're the ones bold enough to act upon their desires.
And the question is "As a member of a fandom, or as a member of someone who likes this media that also participates are you a passive fan or an active fan?
By passive I ask this "you watch this, you say this is wrong, this is fucked, but you don't participate but you are a witness to these events. You know it's going on you know what's appropriate and isn't, but the question is: Would you step up? would you try to save your bias? are you going to be a part of the opposing numbers that say hey enough is enough and band together to show support and free your celebrities from the cages they're placed in? Or will you watch.
Many people want to say I'll act upon it but if look around us, you'll see that there are so many passive fans. There are so many bystanders, there are so many people afraid.
You may not contribute to the extreme actions that crazy fans take but the question I have is ...are you brave enough to regulate your own fanbase? Knowing that there is potential for harm.
There is potential being hunted for speaking up, there is potential you'll be left ALONE not cause people DONT agree with you but they're just as afraid as you to get involved, and at this point that's a question of asking, can you really say you don't contribute to the problem when you let shitlords like that take over fan spaces to dictate the general image of the thing you love to destroy the things you adore, to cling to the past?
Here's a question too? How much do other people let other fans get away with things and blame the celebrity instead. People view celebrities as figure heads, Spamton probably called out for help, he believed in his fans too. He still hopes and believes that too but when you reach out and you witness passive fans turning their backs, the few who speak out being taken under waves and drowned out by the voices of the nutcases, and the worst of them all, those that instead of helping blame the celebrity, anyone would lose hope.
And most reasonable people if we're being honest, don't want to fight with crazy people. Even the most well adjusted individual knows the difference between extreme worship/martyr complex actions and understanding that " hey, these people are CRAZY ENOUGH to imprison a single whole ass man, a powerfully popular whole ass man.
....
what is someone like me going to be able to do other than countless death threats and getting doxxed?"
you ever think about that?
Side note: I know this is going to be said and I'm going to address it early. If someone says "Am I the bad one for not acting?"
You make your own decision based on that. But the point is being missed if you are asking this and not looking at the overall issue of fan culture itself and who gets to speak out for the community you're a part of. If you choose to not say a word, that's on you and that's your choice and you should own it.
Own that not saying something when watching this does have an effect. Choosing to accept that affect in silence is your prerogative. Whether it's good or bad is Up. To. You.
But know that if you don't do anything and you don't like the result that occurs due to waving off your say. It's a choice you made to leave that in their hands, you have chosen to say "My choice doesn't matter"

Imagine you really, really hate murder mystery novels.
(this is difficult for me to imagine personally... but for the sake of a metaphor, let’s go with the concept. I’d prefer to use a category of fiction I actually enjoy for this particular point)
But for the sake of this argument, imagine you believe they’re terrible, to the point you think they shouldn’t even be allowed to exist. They’re bad all around, no redeeming value, not even for the sake of intellectual curiosity or pure entertainment. You think murder is just SO BAD in real life, that nobody ANYWHERE, EVER, should be allowed to engage with fictional depictions of this crime.
I don’t think you’re likely to find a ton of murder mystery authors who receive accusations that the only reason they enjoy writing murder mystery novels is because they’re ACTUALLY murderers in real life. Or because they are “glorifying” murder or have some agenda to promote murder or in any way make it appear “morally acceptable” in the eyes of the general public. But just imagine someone SO ANGRY that these terrible, morally bankrupt books (in their eyes) are allowed to exist, allowed to be sold in bookstores or freely available in libraries, or even *gasp* adapted into films or television programs or other media, that they chose to go on a moral crusade against anyone who dared to write such moral (YET ENTIRELY FICTIONAL) atrocities.
In your goal to stamp out this moral outrage, you send these authors (real actual human beings!) death threats and other vile garbage. YOU HAVE NOW CROSSED THE LINE FROM FICTION INTO REALITY.
Sending real human beings direct threats of violence is NOT protected speech. It’s not “fiction.” And nobody consented to actually read that garbage.
The thing is, if you don’t like murder mysteries (because we’re continuing with this metaphor), when you walk into a library or bookstore you can easily avoid having to engage with that section. It’s clearly marked and labeled for your convenience, just like every other section is so that you can easily find what you DO want to read.
Nobody, and I do mean NOBODY, has to justify their reasons for enjoying murder mysteries to you. It’s literally none of your goddamn business. You hate those sorts of books? Fine! Someone else enjoys them? FINE! Their interests in the FICTION they consume do not dictate who they are as human beings, and how they relate and interact with the REAL WORLD. With OTHER LIVING PEOPLE.
People who enjoy consuming fictional things you hate do not deserve your condemnation and do not deserve your abuse. If you attack real living people over what fiction they choose to read or write, then YOU are officially an abuser.
Not in a fictional way.
If someone casually browsing in the romance department nearby hears you loudly complaining that these people who “glorify” murder in their books should be killed, or beaten, or banned, and steps in to suggest that would be morally unacceptable to harm real, living people over the contents of the fictional stories they create or read, and then you turn around and stalk that innocent person who has never read or written a murder mystery novel in their entire lives, and has no interest in doing so even, for the imaginary “crime” of defending free speech that you happen to find distasteful or offensive, then YOU have become an abuser. You have become (to another real, living human being) the embodiment of the thing you profess to hate.
At that point, you can no longer claim the moral high ground here. You could’ve just as easily walked past the murder mystery shelves. You could’ve carried on your entire life engaging with the types of stories that bring you happiness, but instead spend all your free time obsessing over the things you hate instead. I can only assume attempting to make people who are busy creating and consuming the content they enjoy most feel as miserable and hate-filled as you do.
Joke’s on you fools who think that way. It’s just fucking sad, is what it is. Pitiable. Honestly.
I cannot imagine going through life with that much hate and vitriol driving my every waking thought. Turn off the fox news already. Please engage with reality as it actually exists, because nobody gives a shit about your moral fucking outrage over fiction. Please read an actual book about cognitive dissonance, because the complete lack of understanding of your own actions is jarring, and yes, pitiable.
Yes, this has been about purity culture wankers.

Before I continue, I saw your other posts- CSEM is short for Child Sexual Exploitation Material, sometimes CSAM for Sexual Abuse. People refer to it as such because "child porn" with the term "porn" implies that it is a type of porn that was legally acceptable and created with consent, when CSEM is very illegal and children cannot consent.
As for your point about video games requiring ratings and reviews, as well as being regulated- AO3 requires things to be tagged with the "underage" warning if the warning applies. If people are not tagging it, that's totally on the author for being irresponsible, and you can report it for lacking the proper warnings. Video games in stores are rated by the ESRB system too, but indie games online (such as those on itch.io) are not typically held to that same standard, as again, that is also on the creator. There also are plenty of free FPS games you can download, and those are wildly popular. Games are not that well regulated, either- anyone can download a game, and when you buy a physical copy of a game the cashier may not check an ID for a mature game, or a parent could buy a mature rated game for a teen. The point is, is that it is on the consumer to check warnings so that they will not be triggered by anything that may come up. That, or a parent, to make sure their child isn't stumbling into games or any sort of media they are too young for- A parent probably shouldn't let their 10 year old play play something rated M.
The intent with underage fics is not to make the person go out and actually abuse real children, but it may be to arouse. Yes, that arousal is from a depiction of an underage character. However, this also goes back to the video games comparison- Violent video games are not meant to make the player go out and kill real people, but they are meant to amuse the player with depictions of violence. People drowning their Sims aren't doing so because they want to drown real people, they simply want to be amused. And the same with adult fanfic. People don't want to go and abuse real people, they only want to be aroused.
If the issue comes from the fact that it's sexual, well, plenty of erotica with dark themes have existed for a long time, but if someone is old enough to consume it is also assumed that they can read it with a layer of separation that allows them to know that those actions are not to be replicated in real life. When 50 Shades of Grey came out, people went wild, saying that it clearly is not indicative of a real ideal romance, and not even a proper BDSM relationship, because they could see that it was only a piece of fiction. Yet, it was still popular, and people enjoyed it without entering harmful relationships.
I hope this helps! And it is totally valid to be disgusted by sexual fiction with underage characters, as it is to be disgusted with any sort of trope. The only problem comes when you start to judge someone's character by it, rather than how they treat real people.
AO3 Tumblr users
Hang on, hang on, hang on. Are all pro-shippers actually ok with cheese pizza if it's fictional characters?? Like, actual explicit content on <16 characters for people's enjoyment?
I'm wildly shocked at this news, is it true? Or was I talking to some mis-representing people?
I thought AO3 was regulating this content, but no I looked and it's in the TITLES for a lot of works, not even flagged.
Help?? Is this a common and accepted belief for pro-shippers?

you straight up copy and pasted this. i have literally seen this argument before. if you’re gonna defend why you’re in love with a racist character, be fucking original.
like wow thats embarrassing.
anyways, yes it does reflect your character. in certain cases, fiction affects or is a reflection of reality. in this case, it shows that you let pretty privilege win when it comes to seeing red flags in people. it shows what you are literally willing to ignore. You cannot go and say this when you know damn well your attitude towards billy would change if any of these actors played him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the face of Billy wasn't some beauty standard pretty boy, y'all would not go this far. Y'all would say things like "he's ugly AND abusive, yikes"
Also everything you mentioned literally does reflect character 💀 it doesn't mean those people are psychos, or how ever extreme you may think, but it does mean that they created "art" with a reflection of how they feel about those topics in those books, movies, and shows.
Art is an extension of the artists feelings and/or mind. Tell me you're not an artist without telling me you're not and artist.
The bad guy portrayed, the good guy portrayed, the plot, the best friends, the character design, the setting even, ect are all reflections of how the creator feels about the topic being brought up, or their values on good, evil, love, hate ect including MEMORIES, which idk if you knew this, BUT ARE A REFLECTION OF A PERSON.
Hannibal kills and eats people he typically hates (like pedophiles) which is most likely a reflection of the creators own hate for pedophiles, and reflection on their views.
Hurt/comfort reflects peoples trauma. Sometimes the creators, and other times something the creator observed. Sometimes, something the creator desires. Ex: they wish to "save" someone and be there for them
Stephen King writes about murder on one hand, and friendship/ family on the other in a "which will pull through" type of way. "Which one is stronger" type of way, which reflects how he feels at the end of the day and how he views horror too.
George RR is famous for GOT, which is straight up about power struggles. This also reflects his character by showing his view on what is basically power politics. How not all the good guys will be in favor. How loss is inevitable in the batte for victory, and that doesn't mean you should essentially "abandon all hope". This is a reflection of what he believes in.
Also, people mainly like die hard for ACTION, which is a reflection of their character because it shows that they are a person who is/wants to be a daredevil, hero, tough guy, ect. if they liked watching people get murdered, that's completely different, but guess what? It's also a REFLECTION OF THEIR CHARACTER.
so you are wrong wrong wrong over and over again. "IT cErtAinLy DoEsnT maKe YoU a BaD pErSon" but it does REFLECT WHO YOU ARE as a person when you like someone as problematic and harmful as Billy.

To all people who enjoy content:
There is a HUGE issue that needs to be addressed in how people react to things online and how they decide to deal with perceived issues. Specifically, in regards to content creators online, and the content they create.
I want to clarify, this post is talking for the most part about creators who did something multiple years ago that they currently don’t agree with. I’m not talking about people who are CURRENTLY horrible people, but if you want to know please do ask.
Basic synopsis: Purity culture is being used to shame people for their interests and to actively control and manipulate what people are “allowed” to like, which is often harmful and toxic; it is also being used to condemn people for the entire rest of their lives over doing something in their past, with no regards to if an apology was offered- which is harmful to people trying to unlearn toxic mindsets and be better people in the present day.
So, let’s talk about Purity Culture. I don’t know what else to call it, so if someone has a better name for it go ahead and say it- but, essentially, “The idea that every piece of media you consume must itself be good, AND has to have been made by a “good person”,” with no exceptions. This belief means that if a creator is seen as a bad person, or the media itself has a troubling aspect, you are NOT allowed to like it, DO NOT INTERACT, YOU’RE PROBLEMATIC AS HELL TOO IF YOU LIKE IT!!!!
That may sound like an exaggeration, but it’s only mildly so. There is, however, a much more harmful part to this mentality: Judging people for things they did years ago, and not allowing them to apologize and be forgiven, and USING this purity culture ideal against THEM as well. The idea that people can’t be forgiven, can’t change, and have to have been perfect always to be valid is extremely, extremely toxic and harmful, full stop. There are so many underlying issues that can both lead to someone being “problematic,” but that is so much less the issue than the fact doing this discourages real change.
People DO change over time. And if you find out someone did something in their past, you ARE allowed to not forgive them! However; That does NOT mean you should condemn them and everything they do as problematic horrible and unforgivable, and ATTACK other people and make WARNING posts in the tone of them STILL being “””Problematic”””! That is in some cases, BLATANT MISINFORMATION, and in most cases, encouraging the mentality that people don’t change.
Now, who is this a problem for? Because someone saying horrible things about minorities of any kind is legitimately harmful in its own right, and can hurt people who find it, which deserves to be addressed. (Again, YOU are not required to forgive them, and you have the freedom to not engage.) Purity Culture hurts People with RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria), and people who cannot control what they hyperfixate on. It can ALSO harm people who are struggling to get past toxic mentalities for any reason, and people who are trying to improve themselves and be better., and people who HAVE improved themselves and gotten better after being a person with (arguably) horrible views.
For people who experience RSD, seeing people denounce a piece of media for “””Something problematic””” (creator or otherwise), and in some cases seeing people ATTACK those who enjoy that media, can be physically painful and extremely, extremely stressful. Especially with the prevalence of this mentality right now, it makes engaging with anything a VERY stressful experience, because if what you enjoy isn’t perfect in every way you will be shamed for it, and rejected for it, and actively hated for it, and there is NO compromise on that point.
This is twice as volatile an issue when you ALSO cannot wholly control what your brain hyperfixates on. Hyperfixation (the word) has two main uses; in regards to a single task/activity (in which you’re unable to pull yourself out of said task and cannot switch focus to anything else), and in regards to media consumption (having an intense, very focused interest in media or a character, that can feel very consuming and intense in some cases. This extends even MORE so to special interests).
Hyperfixations in those who are neurodivergent (don’t think the same as the wider population- such as people with ADHD and Autism, amongst other things) are NOT typically something they can control. Not without exceptional effort and potential detriment- one of the fairly unfortunate coping mechanisms I have for this (speaking, yes, as someone with ADHD) is to Completely ignore new media, wholesale, to avoid gaining a hyperfixation in relation to that media. Even still, I obviously still SEE things because I exist in the world and things are everywhere- and while I can enjoy content normally, it is MUCH different when I see something and feel unable to focus on ANYTHING else for WEEKS on end.
You can hyperfixate on something before learning about “X problematic thing,” and then when you’ve already gotten very attached and deep into the media people will start attacking you with it! And saying “Oh, you like THAT??? That was made by a super problematic person, you can’t like that!!!” It’s EXTREMELY difficult to explain how harmful that is when I A: Can’t control it, B: Didn’t know, and C: Suffer from RSD in the first place. It DOES NOT stop you from engaging with the content, because you are hyperfixated on it and you literally can’t avoid it, but it DOES overwhelm you with guilt and make you withdraw from the people around you because now YOU must be problematic and horrible and you’re a horrible person for liking this media and everyone must HATE you.
The above was not an exaggeration. That is legitimately how it feels.
People are talking about how “Cringe Culture is dead,” but it being replaced by a MUCH more insidious “Purity Culture” that is MUCH MORE toxic, MUCH MORE manipulative, and also inherently flawed to begin with!!! You CAN’T and SHOULDN’T be a perfect person, that is why you CHANGE AND GROW. You should ALSO be judging a piece of media on its OWN merits, NOT on the merits of what’s behind it (not wholesale like people are intent on doing).
Now, all things in moderation. If a piece of media was created with malicious or biased opinions in its core: It IS important to address that, and to acknowledge that this aspect is not something you should support, and something to be mindful of when thinking about the content. It’s also good to be aware of how people currently are when participating in media spaces- you don’t have to be perfect at this, but if you don’t want to engage with things made by people who have horrible current views that is absolutely your choice.
However, this doesn’t excuse constantly shaming and attacking people, ESPECIALLY people who are aware of a media’s flaws and able to both recognize that and amend that in a respectful, understanding way. You can enjoy a story about a murderer without also being a murderer and knowing that murder is wrong. This extends to other actions as well by the way (and the desensitization of people to murder in modern day media is also a wild topic for another day because wow some people really be out here like “yeah literally ending someone’s life in fiction is fine but x is absolutely abhorrent and unforgivable,” like what??).
The real thing here is, this: If you don’t like content, or you cannot in good conscience enjoy that content knowing about something that happened relating to it: Don’t interact! If you are for some reason, stuck participating in and interacting with something you personally feel is horrible, don’t shame and hurt other people for more honestly enjoying it, especially the good parts. What you CAN do is inform people, respectfully!
And with ALL the details please. Because I see a lot of times, especially with creators: Someone will dig up something the creator said years ago and say, “THIS CREATOR IS (X) YOU CAN’T SUPPORT THEM OR ENJOY WHAT THEY MAKE BECAUSE IT’S PROBLEMATIC!!!” And, actually: They have since apologized for what they said, and actively made efforts to change. “But they did it in the past” Is NOT a valid argument, and honestly?? If you’re the same person you were even two years ago, that’s wild, and I hope you’ll understand that some people can change drastically in that time after being properly informed about issues.
Again: If you don’t want to interact with a piece of media, okie dokie! It’s up to us to respect that, and to tag our stuff and not shove it down your throat, y’know? But maybe, if you don’t like something, you shouldn’t decide to hurt the people who do like it, because I think that’s pretty harmful, and man imagine someone digging into your life 3 years ago and finding one sentence you said to judge your entire life on and force people to hate you with. Haha that’d suck, right?
If you read all this wow thanks, and also I’m well aware most my fellows with ADHD probably skimmed it because yeah it is a lot man whoops- I’ve just been thinking about it for a while because yeah. Yeah. “I do not control the hyperfixation” is not just a funny meme y’all it’s a thing and it’s legitimately exhausting and painful to see everything you enjoy be hated and be told you’re wrong for liking it in any way, shape, or form.
