Fluffcember 2024: Fireworks | Rayllum & Sorvus & Clauderry Callum is determined to ask Rayla to be his girlfriend this Winter Break. But if he can't even start a fire, how is he supposed to create the perfect moment? Soren has decided to stay on campus this Christmas, but with Rayla and Callum as his only company, he's starting to feel like a third wheel. Except maybe it's not just the three of them left on campus after all. Meanwhile Claudia is trying to have a nice Christmas with her family, but maybe her family isn't at home...

 Soren heard the door open and glanced up from where his head was resting on Corvus’ chest, expecting it to be Callum and Rayla coming back from their date. Or Terry and his sister coming back from theirs. Everybody seemed to be going out on dates, today. He didn’t mind, though. It meant he and Corvus could finally get some time to themselves.

 Ezran jumped up from the couch beside them, running into the hall to see who it was.

 Alright, mostly to themselves. Maybe all the other lovebirds had the right idea. 

 “Aunt Amaya!” he heard Ezran shout and sat up straighter. “You made it!”

 Harrow’s voice joined Ez’s a moment later. “Amaya! Don’t worry about your shoes. Did you have a nice Christmas?”

 There was a pause, and then Gren’s voice filtered out from the hall. “It was wonderful. Karim got stuck in traffic and couldn’t make it.”

 Soren heard Harrow chuckle and padded across the living room in his socks to peer into the hall. Amaya and Gren were bundled up, not making any move to take off their coats. He waved as they spotted him, and they returned the gesture. Then Amaya glanced past him into the living room.

 “Where is Callum?” Gren translated.

 “Off with his girlfriend.” Harrow said, laughing as Amaya’s eyes narrowed. “Now, now. I think you’ll like her.”

 “We’ll see about that.” Gren interpreted.

 Amaya clapped Soren on the shoulder as she walked past him and into the house, and he gave her a smile, trailing after everyone and into the living room. Corvus had drifted off to the side, as though he thought standing against the wall would make him invisible or something.

 Soren had to admit he was good at holding still, but even that wasn’t enough to serve as camouflage. Amaya clocked him immediately, raising an eyebrow at Harrow.

 “That’s Corvus. Soren’s boyfriend.” he explained.

 She turned a wide smile to Soren and he grinned. He knew enough sign to make out her ‘good job’ without Gren’s help.

 “What did she say?” Corvus asked, leaning closer to him.

 “Oh, just that I’m way out of your league.” Soren said, bumping him with his shoulder. 

 Corvus rolled his eyes. “Sure she did.”

 “Nah, she didn’t.” Soren said. “It was a joke.”

 “Yes. I’m aware. I was also making a joke.”

 Soren stared at Corvus. Then his eyes widened. “Sarcasm!”

 “Yes, Soren.” Corvus' eyes followed the little group as they made their way into the kitchen. “That’s Callum and Ezran’s Aunt, yes?”

 “Yeah. Amaya. She’s pretty cool.” Soren leaned back against the wall beside Corvus. “She’s a detective.”

 “Sounds very cool.”

 Soren stared after them, nose wrinkling in thought. “Do you think I could do something like that?”

 “Be a detective?”

 “Yeah.” Soren said. “Or… I don’t know. An EMT.”

 “Those are very different jobs.” Corvus observed.

 “I just mean something important. Something that really helps people. Keeps them safe.”

 “I think you can do whatever you set your mind to.” Corvus said, almost casually. Soren glanced at him, feeling his cheeks warm. But Corvus didn’t notice, continuing; “You’re hard working, and that can get a person just about anywhere. Plus you're smart and funny and charismatic. So yes, I think you could do just about whatever you like. With enough time and effort.”

 Corvus glanced over at him, lips quirking up at the side as he caught sight of Soren’s expression. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

 “Oh, uh, nothing.” Soren said quickly, glancing away, face burning. “Just… I don’t know. Nobody’s really said any of that stuff about me before.”

 “That you could accomplish things?”

 “That I’m funny or charismatic or… or smart.”

 “Well, you are.”

 “People usually just think I’m sort of stupid.” Soren considered. “Clauds says I’m a doof.”

 “Well, you are.” Corvus said. “But that doesn’t mean you’re not also those other things.”

 “Thanks, Corvus.” Soren bumped their shoulders together.

 Before either of them could say anything else the door swung open again, and this time it was Callum and Rayla. They blew in with a gust of cold air, covered in snow and laughing, Callum’s scarf wrapped around Rayla’s shoulders. Ezran came careening out of the kitchen to grab them, dragging them back with him. Before Soren could decide whether or not he should go and see what all the fuss was about, they were all heading for the door again, this time with Amaya and Gren leading the way.

 “What’s going on?” Soren asked Callum as he was dragged past.

 “I heard something about fireworks?” Callum said, stumbling after his brother. 

 “You are not setting off fireworks in my backyard!” Harrow called from the kitchen.

 Gren translated and Amaya turned back to them with a wink. “Don’t worry, we won’t be setting them off in the backyard.” Gren said quietly, interpreting. 

 “Do you want to go with them?” Corvus asked, and Soren turned back to him.

 He considered for a moment before grabbing the other man’s hand. “Come on.”

 “Soren, where are we going?” Corvus asked as Soren led him out into the snow, past where Amaya and the others were setting up fireworks in the front drive, and over to the high picket fence that separated Harrow’s yard from his father’s. 

 “You’ll see.” he told him, cupping his hands and holding them out for Corvus to use as a step to get over the fence. The other man stared at him for a long moment, as though contemplating.

 “Do you trust me?” Soren asked.

 Corvus sighed, stepping onto his hands and letting Soren boost him up and over the fence. Then he reached up, grabbing the top and hoisting himself up and over as well.

 Corvus was waiting on the other side when he dropped down, giving him a curious look before turning to survey the backyard.

 “So… this is where you grew up?”

 “After the divorce, yeah.” Soren said, starting to lead him towards the big oak tree growing in one corner. “Dad moved us here after.”

 “Do you ever miss it? Your old town?”

 “I used to.” Soren admitted. “But not really anymore. Anyway,” he threw a grin back over his shoulder at Corvus. “if I hadn’t of moved here, how would I have met you?”

 “So then you believe everything happens for a reason?”

 Soren grabbed the lowest branch of the oak, heaving himself up before reaching down to help Corvus do the same. “Nah. Clauds got really into fate and tarot cards and all that stuff, but I never really believed in any of it. You decide who you’re going to be and what you’re going to do.”

 “I like that.” Corvus said, climbing through the limbs of the three behind him.

 “I still believe in happy accidents, though.” Soren said, helping him up the final stretch and from there onto the roof. 

 He stood up, holding his arms out for balance as he made his way to the other side, where they could see the first fireworks being lit in Harrow’s driveway. He held out a hand to Corvus, who took it, letting Soren help him over the steepest part of the roof.

 They lay down next to each other on the cold, snowy tiles, Corvus stretching out his arm to let Soren use it as a pillow, the other tucked behind his own head. It was getting late, and a few stars peeked out from between the clouds, flickering in and out of view as the fireworks exploded before them, filling the sky with color and showering red and gold sparks down over the entire street.

 “This is beautiful.” Corvus breathed.

 Soren glanced over at him, watching the bursts of light reflect in his eyes. “Yeah. Beautiful.” he agreed.”

 Corvus turned his head to look at him, a half smile playing on his lips. He reached out, tucking a strand of hair back behind Soren’s ear. “I don’t know if I believe in fate.” he admitted. “But whether it was that or a happy accident, I’m really happy I met you, Soren.”

 Soren blushed, but he didn’t look away. He wanted to remember this moment. “I’m really happy you let me use your oven.” he agreed.

 Corvus chuckled, looking back up at the sky and the lightshow still taking place there.

 “I used to come up here a lot.” Soren said, after a moment. “When I was little. To escape all the noise. And my Dad. It was always easier to think up here, somehow.” he paused, chewing at his lower lip as he mulled over what he was going to say next. “I think I’m going to take a gap year.”

 He swallowed. “No, I am going to take a gap year. Take some time and figure out what I want to do.”

 “That’s wonderful.” Corvus said, turning back to look at him. “A wonderful idea.”

 “It… does mean I won’t be coming back to college next semester.” Soren said.

 “So?”

 “I understand if you don’t want to wait. I don’t know where I’m going to be, or what I’m going to do or-”

 Corvus pressed a finger to his lips, cutting him off. “Soren, whatever you decide to do, and wherever you end up going, we’ll figure it out. I’m not bailing on you because our relationship will be semi inconvenient.”

 Soren smiled. “That’s what I was hoping you would say.”

 He returned his gaze to the sky, scooting closer to Corvus. “I’m really glad I met you too, Corvus.”

Damian and Jon always have 3 years age gap, even before dc age up Jon, they are like 13 and 10, And after age up(Jon is stuck in space had lived through years and is back on earth) they are now 14 and 17. In most of the fan art, you see people who draw them looking the same age pre-age up, because Damian is really short at 13. And people started to ship them when Jon is 10 year old child. You don't date a child when you're a teen, or date a 14 year old teen and being a college student, that is weird.

In the current comic Jon Kent has a boyfriend-Jay Nakamura(Gossamer) whom he met in college and still happily dating.( then there are racist thing ppl would said about Jay on twitter just bc he is a Japanese character and the other shipper use that to attack him too bc they doesn't like Jayjon as a ship )

As an asexual, I mostly headcanon Nika and Damian as nonbinary and asexual. And a lot of the ppl who like Daminika see them as trans for trans too.

You said you followed me for my rayllum art. So you don’t know what the characters I’m talking about, have been drawing about in dc fandom. In my previous vent post is referring to the weird age gap ship, and the maturity of different ages and mentalities when characters are being ship together. And that ship's shippers + incest proshippers are being misogyny towards Nika relentlessly. It's not about against mlm ship, or being homophobic like you claimed.

Maybe you are young and see the fanart and can't think clearly what the issue is. That I can understand, because a few years ago(when I was young and dumb!! and didn't/unable to use my brain to think clearly!!!) I used to think the weird age gap was nothing but now I'm looking back and regret the weird ship I used to ship and draw (Toph and Sokka), I don't ship them anymore + Suki x Sokka superior!!

I have deleted some of Toph and Sokka art and the remaining ones have changed titles and tags to platonic sense. I didn't delete them all because they are still part of my (dumb and reckless!!!) art journey and the things that I'm now getting over and will not ever draw as a ship again.

And let that MISOGYNY energy towards Nika fly into fanfic further misconception both of their character and personalities?!??? Similar things that had happened to Talia being constantly demonized through racism and misogyny by fanon?!?!?? A reappear theme by shipper/yaoi incest proshipper tools her as a bad Asian mom to make a sad and twisted background for Damian to need to be protected by the characters they ship him with?!??

Not all of the shippers/fic writers do this but still, I'm meant by the misconception fanons that spin out of control… then SOMETIMES THE ACTUAL COMICS WRITES(different ones/weird ones) WOULD MAKE IT CANON AND DAMAGE THE CHARACTERS‼️IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE‼️‼️

I know the shippers and the fandom will always be there because of the internet. And I can't control it, so I set up boundaries now by speaking up and defend my favorite characters while I still can.

to that degree, finnegrin's wake. sometimes i wonder if i actually even like this episode because i can't watch it without a legitimate visceral reaction and it makes me want to rip my hair out, but yeah no i am so so so grateful beyond belief that this episode exists. at one point or another i think i've said everything that can be said about this ep so.. yeah

i think the most important thing is the nostalgia. the feeling i associate with s5. i love season 4 now but after that traumatizing experience where the only fandom space i had was goddamn reddit, the thought of this show just made me sick to my stomach. i had loved this show and now you're telling me it's bad?? (<- no, young me, reddit is telling you that. you ate that shit up and you know it) but when season 5 promo started coming out it just made me so excited, even though i tried not to get my hopes up. and then the fire nation attacked it surprise dropped and to be appropriately dramatic, it changed my life. i don't tend to look at past periods of my life fondly, but july 2023 just feels like the happiest time of life even when i know it wasn't lol. that hyperfixation just felt so good and discovering the fandom and making the friends was just the cherry on top of an incredible season. sometimes when i get hyperfixations i am very eager for them to go away; i don't want this thing to consume my every thought when i know it won't last anyway. but not with tdp. i was so scared for when it faded. and then it never did. so yk basically. season 5 is just happiness to me.

OKAY. so i dont really do these kinda posts but id like to say a few things about season 4 cus ive seen some things and the fandom making theories, i just like to write about my own thoughts. ive watched s4 only one time due to not having netflix so i dont really remember many scenes.

"season 5 when?" are you good?? the season 4 just dropped 3 days ago! Im serious when i say ive seen multiple people already posting this question mostly on YT comments or Insta. also the fact that they're not artists OR a fic author makes sense honestly. they have no idea how animation works.

NO she's not... ok maybe a little. but like. come the fuck on, she was gone for 2 years. ofc she's not the same person we saw in season 3. people change. plus, personally, i dont see any difference on her except this one time when callum asked her to...kill him. yes rayla acted a lot calm in that scene- not just that scene really. she was so calm most of the time, but i can see why? she's trying to get callum warm up to her, she's giving him space, she's being gentle as much as she can cus she knows how much she hurt him. she's grown up, she's not the same hot-headed, irritated elf anymore. and we all know how she hides her feelings. Im pretty sure she's gotten used to it, or managed to cope her feelings well so that she can stay calm. lastly about rayla, all i have to say is people change, so does rayla. and no she's not fake at all.

firstly, if rayla's acting weird, what about Viren being supportive with Terry? isnt that weirder? he didnt even treat his own son better, but he's supporting a trans fella? sus.... secondly, what about opeli being so chill about Ez going with Zubia. in that case most of the characters in s4 were out of character. and that's okay cus it's been 2 fucking years!

personally i think the "Zubia in Katolis" scene was a bit rushed. they couldve done it better but Im not saying it was bad at all tho! i loved the scene with the whole callum doing magic thing and the dragon sized jelly tart? xD

"why is rayla back?" why not really. she realized it was useless to find viren and came back home? she realized she wanted to see her mage? "we had something so special. but I became so obsessed with revenge, i.. risked losing the best thing ive ever had... you" she CLEARLY missed him yall. ofc she came back.

"where's the rayllum kiss" Im glad we didnt get a rayllum kiss. I know this is a cartoon show but at least the animators made it similar to how an in-real-life relationship works. people dont just go "you were gone for two years but its okay, i forgive you, lets kiss". Callum needs time to get used to being around rayla again. he's happy but also angry, he needs to see how hard rayla's trying to win callum's trust back. it was so clear that callum got a bit comfortable with rayla again in the last few episodes, especially the last one. That hug was enough sign for us to know they're gonna be okay and that they're still deeply in love.

the fart joke was......nuhuh. idk if it's just me but it was gross. i dont wanna remember how much i cringed.

claudia was a bit- no fuck it- she was too much this season. especially in that scene where she tricked rayla with pebbles. god that hurt so much.

Lastly, Season 4 was amazing!! i loved season 4, and all the new things we saw. the arc is building up, it's so interesting, im so excited for season 5.

Oh my god, here comes the big one!!

The closest thing to a Rayllum clip we’ve gotten so far, and man do I have thoughts:

The whole moment is a callback to when Viren and Harrow spoke about the threat of the Moonshadow assassins. To the point they even had the whole “Harrow/Ezran walks to the end of the balcony to speak with Viren/Harrow” so they’re really laying in to the mage-to-king parallels here pretty thick, even if who is helping whom is reversed here.

The vines on the castle just look like smeared paint. Could have been animated a bit better. Just thought I’d point that out here lol.

“Why aren’t you celebrating?” I realize that this is mostly just to catch the audience up on why Callum is so down right now, but I would have thought that emotionally intuitive Ezran would have caught on by the first anniversary as to why he’s so hurt by this particular day.

When Ez asks Callum if everything is ok, his first response is “Yea,” before he admits that it’s not. A subtle moment, but while Callum isn’t as closed off emotionally as Rayla, it does show he isn’t as willing to be open about his feelings as he used to be.

 Why a “pineapple” cake? Because Callum’s favorite treat is fresh summer fruit. Great attention to detail here, kudos to the writing team!!

Callum connects his birthday to Rayla leaving him, which even two years later, seems pretty reasonable. Even if he wants to move on, this was a pretty traumatic moment, so no wonder the wound is still there.

Side note, Rayla leaving Callum on his birthday was absolutely insane. Was leaving the day after his birthday so difficult? Viren was not going anywhere.

In many ways, Rayla leaving Callum does mirror Rayla’s parents leaving her in some ways (especially since young Rayla and Callum both thought that they’d be strongest together). But that moment led to Rayla developing some rather problematic traits (reluctance to showing vulnerability, perfectionism, over-dedication to one’s craft). Does Callum develop similar traits? My guess is absolutely yes.

Notice how he doesn’t ever answer Ez’s question as to whether he still loves Rayla? Undoubtedly he still does, but it just shows how much it hurts Callum to admit this out loud.

“I don’t even know if she’s alive.” Going back to Callum being unable to move on, and this is why--he is left with no closure. He has no way of determining whether he can hold out hope or not. That’s rough, buddy.

Ezran thinks Rayla is alive. Storytelling 101, this does mean she is alive. Like, that’s basically what this means. To anyone who thought Rayla was dead, while there was an astonishingly low chance of this being the case before, it’s pretty much zero now.

“She loves you too.” This kid is just dropping truth bombs left and right, isn’t he?

Side note, there were a few people who saw the teaser and thought Ez was taller than Callum now...at twelve. Seemed a bit silly to me, I don’t know, but I guess it’s good that this scene cleared that up?

Like, I think that Ez will be taller than Callum when they’re both adults, but there’s no way that he'd just jump a foot in height in two years. Best guess, he’s 5′3″ right now.

And Callum wraps this up with a manly tear. Sorry, I know this is a somber moment (and it is), but no sobbing? Not even a wince? Wow, Callum is one cold mfer now.

The moon is a waxing gibbous right now (meaning just one phase before full). I just think that’s neat.

Since I am still kinda new, I guess I could also talk about ships that I have. Usually, if you have read this, then you kinda know my mostly take on ships, but I have yet to talk about ships I like. (Below cut)

Well for starters, let me start with legend of zelda. I am a pretty big Zellink fan, but only some of the links I ship them together. Like skyward sword for example. Other ships, like Sidon X Wild (link, I just call them wild bc it's easier and linked universe fandom has rubbed off on me) or Mipha x Wild. I am not the pickiest and typically prefer Mipha x Wild or Zellink, but I am pretty open to almost all of them.

Amphiba? Well I have a big list. Sprivy is adorable and cute. So is Yulivivia (idk if that's their ship name or not XD). I don't know what to make of Hop Pop x Grime and such... so... questioning I guess. Sashannarcy is really good and its usually my go too. But Marcanne is adorable. (What can I say? Tiny Dragon toons got me into it. Their art is amazing!!) And anyone with Andrias I try to avoid.

Avatar and Korra is next. I personally like Katara x Aang, (Kataang) is pretty dang good, but usally my go to is Korra x asami. Tho Bopel is pretty good. I, don't know many other ships. I thought Korra X Mako was... kinda bad. I really was not a fan of that ship. It was too fast and Idk why it happened. Felt... wrong in my mind.

Voltron is next and dear lord. I think this is one of the only fandom I don't really have any ships for. Klance is cute, but I don't see it happening in my eyes. (Please don't kill me Klance shippers) Lance X Allura, I don't really know what to make of it I guess... Shiro X Adam though is cute.

Glitch techs? I see no ships here, so Imma skip it. Mainly platonic ships, which I am all down for.

Dragon prince? Rayllum. Rayllum for the win. Though, I wouldn't mind if it was platonic or not, its still a nice duo. I really don't see many other ships... Callum and Claudia I... I don't really care terribly much about.

Rick Riordan verse now!! PJO/HOO/TOA: Obviously Percabeth and Solangelo are both AMAZING!! I love them both with a passion. Jiper is cute. Piper X Shel though is another amazing ship. Another ship I will stand behind until my death is Frazel. Its so underrated and so adorable. Luke and Thalia? Nah, Thalia slay girl. THe ship of Thalia and Reyna is cute tho. I... Haven't read trials of Apollo yet, so I don't know any ships other than Solangelo from there. TKC: Tbh, Zia and Carter is cute but so is Sadie X Walt (I personally call the ship Salt just to confuse everyone.) Tho it did get a little complex with Sadie, Walt and Anubis. But I still think it was cool. Tho, I don't really know any other ships I guess... Anyone got some you can introduce to me? MCATGOA (A tongue twister, I know. Imma just refer to it as MC, (Magnus chase)): Okay, but Halfborn and Mallory were... an interesting pair, but I have no objections. Same with Samirah and Amir, cute and I see nothing wrong with it. Magnus and Alex however I absolutely ADORE!! Its cute, amazing and fabulous ship. I stand behind it til my death.

Hermitcraft? No ships here. As far as I can tell. Same with Dream SMP. I know that there are ships there, not too big with those ships. Like Tubbo and Ranboo? Adorable. Would I protect it with my life? No. Do I enjoy it? Yes. Yes I do.

I could go on, but this post is already long enough. I don't want to bored you. Tho, if you wanted to ask about ships, I guess you could ask me.

S4 Rayllum edit/drabbles 4/5

“I’m taller!” Callum exclaimed one day, a bit triumphantly.

“You’re standing on a rock,” Rayla grumbled. Okay, so he was, but he would still have been taller, even without it.

Well… it depended on whether horns counted, he supposed, but… by a sensible person’s count, definitely taller.

He leaned his forearms against the top of her shoulders, smirking down at her, victorious from his higher vantage point that was only mostly because of the rock he was standing on.

She tilted her head up to look at him, her expression the very familiar cute-grumpy-face, but then… not. Her hand that had come up to push him away stroked softly against his arm instead and… it wasn’t a joke anymore but full of… weight.

And want.

The light of the sunset hit her hair, lighting it up like a halo, and there was some defiance… some playfulness… some Rayla… in her eyes, that he had missed so much he had forgotten how much it also used to utterly mess with his head-

Pfft. ‘Used to.’

His hand was in her hair, although he had made no conscious decision to. Her cheeks were flushed.

Her breath mingled with his, her lips so close.

She cocked her head, smirking just slightly. She really… couldn’t just do that!

He couldn’t just look at that… and not… yeah-

That head-tilt, that look in her eyes that was…

Driving him crazy? Definitely.

Intentionally driving him crazy? …Maybe-plus?

Permission? Yes, it very much was that. And that was the most important really, when this was what he wanted, without question.

His hand clenched in her hair, around the back of her head, to pull her up and closer, closing the distance neither of them wanted.

He didn’t bother with gentle, because they both wanted this, and they might not have- This might be-

No.

It didn’t matter, that was the point.

He wanted this… her… and she him.

So, so much.

It was… complicated though, now, between them, and there were… boundaries to how far they could go when they weren’t a thing and he was still angry and she had still chosen like she had and-

And so they stepped away, and continued down the same valley trail they had followed before, and let their flushes fade and their breaths return.

And it was still complicated.

But among the faded scratches and yellowed bruises at her jaw and neck, among old marks of violence… was a new mark… of affection.

And it was new, too, the way her hand slipped into his and she smiled up at him, definitely up, because he was definitely taller-

Never mind.

It was intentional, was the point. Not habit or desperate longing for contact.

They both knew where they wanted to go… and that the other wanted it too… they just had to get there.
