What's your idea on spoken Silvan? With multiple sources, depending on what's read it could be a language shift happened and it's no longer a spoken language. Or that the language spoken in Mirkwood is not Sindarin but related to it, implying Silvan but also could be a creole. With Tolkien's writing there's probably another version somewhere.
omg I love that you think that *I* am somehow the sort of Tolkien Expert who should be asked questions like this, no. No my friend, alas, I am soooo far from the right choice here. (But I'm flattered that I've posted enough LotR stuff to somehow trick you. Also, sorry.)
(You want original SW minutia, old EU canon stuff? I will stack myself up against pretty much anybody, sure. I can say "I have forgotten more about Star Wars than you will ever know" to folks and just actually be lamenting details that I'm fuzzy on rather than gatekeeping, I'm not kidding. But Tolkien? Oh my stars friend, no, I am so very much an unread novice in these waters.)
That said...my COMPLETELY unfounded off-the-cuff answer, based entirely on the Lórien scene of Fellowship and meta that I've read other people post, is that the language spoken in Mirkwood is Sindarin, but with such heavy Silvan influence and accent that it's almost unrecognizable to those who don't speak Sindarin as a first/primary language themselves or who've never heard that dialect before.
That said: somebody who actually knows what they're talking about instead of just pulling nonsense out of their ass, please share your ideas with the anon here thank you.
#i am not just the wrong tree i am the wrong FOREST#you've basically walked into beleriand and asked about eryn lasgalen i am so sorry#lotr#sindarin#silvan#i like the cringefail/hick twink legolas headcanon#where his silvan accent is not just so thick but his actual word choice is so out-there that it makes aragorn cringe#and frodo takes about two weeks to even realize that he's technically speaking sindarin#lórien also speaks a heavily accented silvan dialect of sindarin#but much much less so than mirkwood#and with a much more refined vocabulary#so frodo has to get used to the accent there too yes#but it's a lot less OMG WTF than the shit that comes out of the mouths of mirkwood elves#who just straight up do not give a shit about this haughty noldo-influenced crap#they have spiders to kill y'all they do not have time for your grammar police nonsense!#also thranduil would still cut a bitch for speaking quenya in his forest so...#lotr meta#elvish

A List of Very Convincing Reasons why Elrond Peredhel Cannot become Noldor High King after Gil-Galad, written by Dnorle Lehderep
He's like Finwe's great great great grandson; that's clearly too many generations away.
Also he's technically a Feanorian and they're like, super cursed and also dispossessed so maybe he shouldn't be in the line of succession.
No one can agree on whether his claim comes from the Nolofinwean or Feanorian lines. Clearly the best solution to this is for him to not be king.
Galadriel is right there.
He turns into a bird sometimes and everyone knows that birds can't be elf-kings that would be silly.
Yes, he does have one of the three rings "for elvish kings" but Cirdan also has one of those, and he's not an elvish king, so frankly it doesn't matter.
Gil-Galad's will, which states that Elrond inherits the crown, was clearly forged. I will not explain how. Trust me on this one.
C'mon guys he's not even technically an elf. Yes Melian was a queen over elves without being an elf. Yes Dior was a half-elf elf king. I don't see what that has to do with anything.
Do we really need a king?? Apparently some edain are experimenting with a new system called "democracy" and fraknly that sounds a lot better and cooler than having another king.
We'd have to get the crown resized again and that would be a lot of work.
He wears his hair partially down. In public. If that's not scandalous I don't konw what is.
I know his followers keep talking about how great of a leader he is, but they're mostly Feanorians, so clearly that doesn't count.
Galadriel. Is. Right. There.
He probably doesn't even speak Quenya. Don't ask anyone at court to confirm this.
He's very busy revolutionizing the field of medicine in Rivendell right now, please leave me him alone.
Clearly he doesn't wear enough jewelry to be a proper Noldor king.
#silmarillion#elrond#elrond peredhel#gil galad#please leave him alone#he just wants to be a little guy your honor

Secret Conversation- Thranduil x Human!Reader
Summary: Bard brings his Sindarin speaking friend when going to talk to Thranduil and Thranduil decides to flirt with her
Word count: 1, 352
A/N: italics is spoken in Sindarin
Though you hadn’t known Bard for very long, only looking after his kids for the past four months, when he told you of his meeting with Thranduil, you had insisted on joining him. You didn’t tell many people, but you did know Sindarin and you believed you’d be a good asset to your new friend.
Even though you stood beside Bard and he acted as a buffer between you and the famed king of the woodland realm, it was difficult to not feel intimidated. Even in such a simple throne in a cloth tent, he still held such power and grace to him, so much so that it was hard to take your eyes from him.
Honestly, you could have stared at the king for hours, but you decided that standing beside Bard and trying to not draw much attention to yourself was the best course of action. Unfortunately however, your wandering looks still managed to catch the attention of the elvish king, and his gaze often caught yours.
Trying your best to stay out of the way as you stood beside your friend, a guard came in to give word to Thranduil.
“What are they saying?” Bard gently asked you, not realising that the elves would definitely be able to hear him, though the whisper was extremely quiet.
“He’s just keeping Thranduil informed of the guard change, and that the number of guards will be increasing now that the sun is lower.” You whisper back as quietly as possible, although you knew he’d hear you.
Thranduil obviously heard your response and it intrigued him. As the kings gaze flicked over to the two of you, Bard stood straighter and your eyes fell to the floor. Though you did not look at him, you could tell Thranduils eyes were watching you intently.
Desperately you kept your gaze on the ground, hoping your knowledge of his language would not get you or Bard into trouble.
“So that is why you brought her along, because she knows of our language. Is that right, girl?” Thranduil teasingly enquires.
“Ye-yes.” You nervously whisper, as your eyes slowly rise to meet Thranduils enchanting stare.
“Interesting. How is it you know our tongue?” Thranduil continues to interrogate, appearing both intimidating and alluring as he looks you over while he talks.
“M-my mother was a linguist. She studied many languages and often acted as a translator for political matters. She shared her love of language and reading with me.” You timidly admit, the thought of your mother helping you to feel less intimidated before such a powerful king.
“She sounds like a very interesting woman.” Thranduil says, offering you a gentle smile, which you give him in return.
“Now I do have questions for your ears alone.” The king asks now in his own tongue, obviously not wanting Bard to hear.
Bard knows this is Thranduils intent and turns to you, worried about what he might have said. You give Bard a reassuring smile and look back to Thranduil.
“What is it you’d like to know?” You reply in his own language.
Hearing you speak Sindarin makes his eyes shine and a cheeky smile to appear on his face as he sits up straighter. Thranduil liked the way you sounded when you spoke in his own tongue. You sounded so enchanting and his fascination for you seemed to grow.
“Do you live with him?” Quickly came Thranduils first question, of what you’d assumed would be many.
“No, I simply care for his children when he is away working.”
Confirmation that Bard and yourself were not together seemed to interest him even more, as he now uncrossed his legs and positioned his body to face you more.
“Such a pretty young thing taking care of another man’s children. Surely you have wondered how it would feel to take on more wifely duties for him. Though he’s not my type, he seems to be the most handsome and intelligent man among your townsfolk. Has a thought not crossed your mind as to how he could make you feel? How his experienced hands may bring you pleasure?” Thranduils enchanting eyes bore into your own, as if he was looking into your very soul, pinning you to your spot.
Bard could sense that Thranduil was trying to intimidate you and put a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“We can leave if you like.” Bard kindly whispered in your ear, the comment making Thranduils grin grow.
You’d have to be blind to not be attracted to Thranduil and you were not one to back down from a challenge. You wanted to see how far he would go with this game, and honestly, you might have your own fun flirting back with the elvish king.
“Would you like that? Like to leave with him? Well not with him, he would still not warm your bed or draw pleasure from you in the way you desire.”
A slight smirk of your own played on your lips as you saw your opening to meet his challenge. What Thranduil was saying wasn’t necessarily wrong, of course you’d thought of Bard in such a way, but they were more fleeting thoughts of fancy than they were actual desires. The woodland king however? He was beginning to fill you with desires.
“What if I chose to stay here? Would you fulfil my desires, Thranduil?” The kings body erupted as he heard you speak his name.
“I have only slept with the race of men. Tell me, would a night with you bring greater pleasure than what a man could provide?” You meet his challenge in a way he was not expecting. He smirked and looked down as he saw the way you held onto Bards forearm, pretending it was for courage, but both you and the king knew it was to tease him.
“Oh you sweet girl. I have lived more lives than all the men you’ve had combined. I could draw pleasure from you that you had never thought possible. Why if your friend wasn’t standing there, I’d taking you right now in this tent. I’d want to be slow with you, give you your pleasure again and again, but with the way you tease me, I think I might have to take a different approach.” Thranduils flirting continues, though his voice is kept neutral as to not draw too much attention to what you both were really talking about.
“And what approach would that be, your highness?” You meet his challenge, his formal title making the fires inside him grow.
“A more assertive one. Where I rip your blouse down the middle so I can see more of what I know is a beautiful body, and so I can bite and kiss and lick more of your skin. I can be a very tolerable and patient elf, but you have made me desperate. I would push you against the table and take you from behind. I’d have you in a way no man ever has before, but that would be just the beginning of our night. If you don’t leave with him, I will have you in every way there is to have a lover, for as long as your human body can take.”
By the time Thranduil had finished talking, your body was on fire, and you were about ready to pounce on him right here and now, but you knew you had to keep a calm disposition with Bard still standing beside you.
Turning to your friend, you keep your eyes serious as you look to him.
“Go back to the children, I need to discuss some things with Thranduil. I’m not sure how long I’ll be but I’ll find you in the morning. I’ll be okay.” You sweetly explain to your friend, covering any suspicion of ulterior motive.
Bard turned to look at Thranduil, giving him a warning look, before turning back to you.
“Okay, be safe and I’ll be keeping an eye out for your return.” Bard sweetly smiled at you, before leaving the tent.
Turning to Thranduil, you both wore matching devilish smirks.

Elvish For Dummies
Pairing: Legolas x Reader (gender neutral)
Summary: Set after the events of LoTR. You live with Legolas in Mirkwood and he teaches you Elvish. Pure fluff.
Word Count: 1039
Notes: Established relationship, reader is human, tried to make the sindarin elvish as accurate as possible so apologies for any mistakes, I’m multilingual so I based this off of my own experience with learning languages
Read it on AO3 here
Story:
Despite the fellowship having disbanded, each day with Legolas seemed like another adventure. During your perilous journey together, the two of you had grown closer than either of you thought possible. The mere thought of being apart from you pulled at his heartstrings. He could not bear the thought of being separated from his new love. After the one ring was destroyed, the elf invited you to come with him to Mirkwood. Hastily, you agreed, for you too could not wait to start a new life with the elven prince.
Since reaching Mirkwood, many seasons have passed and you two grow closer by the day. Under his guidance, your archery skills and ability to speak Elvish have improved. He took it upon himself to privately tutor you in the tongue of his people. Legolas still giggles when you fumble certain words on your tongue, but is quick to apologize, never wanting to discourage you. He says you have made remarkable progress and that you possess great linguistic potential. Whether that is true or he is exaggerating with sugar coated words, you cannot tell but it feels good to hear his encouragement either way.
Most of your days together included walks through the woods and riding horseback, but today was a gloomy rainy day. A day that, Legolas decided, would be a wonderful excuse to help you get back to your studies. It’s not that you did not enjoy Elvish. Oh no! You quite liked hearing him whisper loving words to you as he held your gaze.
“Meleth nîn, Im tur feel cín emel dring dan sab - My love, I can feel your heartbeat against mine”, he would say as he held you in his arms, his breath dancing upon your skin with each syllable.
Saying you enjoyed that would be the understatement of the century. Everything in Sindarin sounded like poetry. Even the most mundane sentences were said with purpose and flowered language. Unfortunately for you, that also meant the most basic phrases you had to learn weren’t your typical ones. Instead of “I went to the store”, you had to say “I depart to look for food - Im gwann- na thír an aes”. It seems that most Elvish children learn how to say things like “I can feel it in the earth - Im tur- feel ha in i coe” before they learn “please” and “thank you”. No wonder they all sound prophetic when they speak common. Creepy oracle sounding sentence structure as your first language combined with being thousands of years old will do that.
“Meleth nîn, you’re drifting off. Shall we return to our lesson or is a break needed?”, Legolas' words break you out of your trance. You look up from your desk, covered in notes, to see him towering above you, eyebrow raised and arms crossed.
“Apologies, I was merely pondering the linguistic differences between Sindarin and Quenya Elvish”, you quickly come up with the excuse to hide the fact that you were simply not paying attention.
“Is that so?”,
“Yes, yes, the distinction between Elvish languages is very interesting to me”.
“This is the third time this lesson you’ve been distracted by those differences”.
“Ah, well…”, you trail off, caught red-handed.
“Y/N, I will not force you to learn Sindarin if you do not wish it”.
“No, no, no, I want to learn. I promise. It’s all just new to me and takes a moment to sink in. Please, repeat what you said. I’m paying attention”.
Legolas smiles but does not repeat himself. Instead, he moves on to an exercise he is sure will get your attention.
“We shall review what I have taught you thus far.”
…
“ Very good, Y/N. Now how would you say ‘the stars shine white’?”
“ I elena mír thilivern”
“The grass is green?”
“I thár na- calen”
“Very good pronunciation. You have done well. I believe it is time to learn some new vocabulary”.
You take out a new sheet of paper from your stack, ready to write.
“You need not write for this portion. Repeat after me.”
“Okay”. You put your quill down.
“Meleth nîn.”
“Meleth nîn. I know what that means already. You say it all the time”.
“And what does it mean?”
“My love”, your lips turn upward in a shy smile.
“Very good. Let us move on then”, he smiles brightly, as if pleasantly surprised despite knowingly fully well that you knew its meaning.
“I’m ready. Hit me.”
He suddenly sits down next to you and takes your hands into his own.
“Im mel cin”
“Im mel cin”
“Do you know its meaning?”
“No, should I? I’m sorry.”, your eyes widen as you try to recall whether he had said it before in a previous lesson.
Legolas throws his head back with laughter. This may be the hardest you’ve ever seen him laugh before… and it’s at you. Great.
“Apologies. Apologies.”, he manages to get out between giggles, “The look on your face was priceless.” Your face sours at this and Legolas manages to resist a second burst of laughter from it. He thinks you equal parts hilarious and adorable.
“You would not have known this phrase as I have never spoken it to you before. I do think it is high time for you to learn it”.
“Okay, so what does it mean?”, you scrunch your eyebrows together, ego still a little hurt from being laughed at.
His grip on your hands tighten but his touch stays gentle as ever. He has always been gentle with you. His gaze holds the same softness. No, even deeper. The blue of his eyes seem more vibrant and invite you in to look deeper within him. His eyes tell of a love that can never be truly explained in any language. Legolas has always had a staring problem when it comes to you, but this is something different entirely. Your cheeks redden at his seriousness.
“I love you”.
Your eyes widen once more and before you can react, he kisses you. Deeply. Passionately.
“I love you. I love you. I love you.” he repeats again and again into your lips.

Maybe learning a new language isn’t so bad, if you have the right teacher.

A fellow fan (who prefers to remain anonymous) shared their “wild theory” that there can be more to the Elrond and Galadriel kiss scene that meets the eye, and asked me to do an "breakdown" and see if it can be. Now, this is just theory, don’t get your hopes too high, please.
This scene isn’t meaningless like many are trying to make it to be: this is the kiss that Morfydd Clark teased at the premiere, and it’s in one of the main trailers for Season 2.
I rewatched the entire scene like 5 times, and I did notice there was something strange about Elrond (body language, the way he walked and, even, the way he spoke), and before the kiss itself, Adar himself seems to act shady as his eyes linger on Elrond’s face, with suspicion.
All of this can mean nothing, however, there can be some clues, here:
Elrond sounded quite passive-aggressive in his exchange with Adar, and kind of manipulative as well (this is a tense scene, but Elrond seemed OOC);
Elrond didn’t actually choose anything: it took me a third rewatch to observe this, but the way the scene is written and acted, it’s like Elrond isn’t there to strike any bargains with Adar or stop the attack on Eregion (which should be his goal in this scene, no?), but rather to help Galadriel break free.
Random mention of Melian (yes, Elrond’s ancestor, but also the Maia who fell in love with an Elf);
Elrond hitting back at Adar with mentions of his “children” (and the camera lingers on the Orcs to see their reactions. We already saw the Orcs starting to turn on Adar, and in 2x01 we saw another character pulling out the same move);
Elrond randomly calling him “Adar” to his face;
The weird way Elrond removed the pin from his cape is quite similiar to another scene we’ve seen of a pin being removed in S1;
Adar’s entire demeanor changes as soon as he gets close to Elrond, and looks him in the eye;
The music that plays during the kiss, seems quite familiar to the 6:22-6:25 chords of the “Last Temptation” OST.
After Elrond leaves the tent, his demeanor seems extra cold for his usual self, and he speaks only in Elvish. He also tells the soldier that he’ll try to hold on the walls of Eregion in a cryptic way (I mean yeah, but there's another character who’s also holding the walls at the moment, and who saw the Elfish army coming from a mile away, and probably Galadriel in a cage, too).
What’s the wild theory? It’s not Elrond in that scene, but Sauron.
We know Sauron can bend reality to his will and create illusions: we’ve seen him impersonating Finrod, Galadriel’s brother, in 1x08; and this Season he shaped the entire reality around Celebrimbor for him to complete the Nine.
We know Adar and Sauron also share a connection and they seem to be able to recognize each other (Adar knew that Halbrand was Sauron), so can that explain the change in Adar’s demeanor as soon as he looks into Elrond’s eyes? Because he realizes it’s not him, not Sauron in front of him?
A few months ago, there were some “leaks” that Sauron would impersonate Celeborn to kiss Galadriel: what if he impersonated Elrond, instead?
Can this be how Sauron will prove to Galadriel his love for her? Because he was the one who helped her escape Adar, and he’ll show her this at the finale? (with how the kiss was filmed, it’s possible to do a character-change-reveal situation)
Now, and as I’ve said in the beginning of this post, this is a “wild theory”, so don’t get your hopes too high.

Who is the main villain in the Rings of Power? On Sauron's redemption
So the most obvious answer is that Sauron is the main villain of the series - but everything in the show really circles back to Morgoth, the original source of evil in the Middle-earth: the people of the Southlands are 'destined for darkness' because of their ancestors' blood oath to Morgoth, Galadriel's fall into darkness (Adar accuses her of being transformed by Morgoth), corruption of the Lindon tree, corruption of Adar and his children, and yes, also Sauron.
All of the evil circles back to Morgoth because of Arda Marred
Arda Marred is an Elvish term for the world as it is: tainted by the evil of Morgoth. The damage sustained by Arda, and its creatures' attempts to deal with it, form most of the drama of its history.
The true affliction that the Marring of Arda signified went beyond the physical fact of Arda's damage and misshapenness. Morgoth (...) poured out his evil and rebellious will into its very structure. No creature that depended on the natural world for its survival (i.e., all beings aside from the Valar and Maiar) could escape this taint of Morgoth; it inevitably affected their understanding of the world and subsequent actions. Thus, it was the Marring of Arda that allowed misfortunes such as the Shadow to fall upon populations of the Children of Ilúvatar, causing misunderstandings and conflicts among them.Even after Morgoth himself was removed from Arda, this part of himself that he allowed to pass into its structure remained, and was in fact impossible for anyone save Eru to eradicate fully.
And Morgoth's corruption is especially interesting in Sauron.
... when Eönwë departed he hid himself in Middle-earth; and he fell back into evil, for the bonds that Morgoth had laid upon him were very strong. - Silmarillion
So what are those bonds that Morgoth put on Sauron?
Have you ever paid attention of how similar those two quotes below are? One is the Witch King speaking to Eowyn, and the other is Luthien taunting Sauron after defeating him:
Come not between the Nazgûl and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in thy turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye.
Lúthien came to him, and said that he should be stripped of his raiment of flesh, and his ghost be sent quaking back to Morgoth; and she said: ‘There everlastingly thy naked self shall endure the torment of his scorn, pierced by his eyes, unless thou yield to me the mastery of thy tower.’
They are almost the same quote! We might guess that Sauron is doing to the rigwraiths what Morgoth has done to him. And he says something similar to Celebrimbor - that he treats him as Mogoth treated him. The showrunners have compared Sauron to Gollum - in him being bound and corrupted to Morgoth, as Gollum is to the One Ring / Sauron.
The initial mistake of Sauron was choosing to join Morgoth - after that he had no other option but to serve him because 'the bonds that Morgoth had laid upon him were very strong'.
Having all this in mind, after Morgoth's defeat Sauron really could have repented, in his own 'corrupted' way. His master's influence on him was diminished - although not fully gone (When Morgoth was defeated, it was as if a great, clenched fist had released its grasp from my neck. And in the stillness of that first sunrise, at last, I felt the light of The One again).
So what were Sauron's plans after Morgoth's defeat?
In Numenor Galadriel finds an account on Morgoth's plan to be enacted in the event of his defeat - which was completed by Adar in season 1, creating Mordor.
Why hasn't Sauron enacted Morgoth's plan? He was not trying to create Mordor, he was hiding in the North and experimenting with the power of the unseen world. He says to orcs that he wants to heal the Middle-earth. It looked that He was not in any hurry to create Mordor.
Playing devil's advocate: I think it's possible that he tried to escape Morgoth's leash after his defeat. We know that's he's still corrupted by Morgoth (his evil dark spaghetti form and Mirdania's descriptons might be some visual clues), but he's concious of this corruption and tries to escape it. And what makes it tragic is that he can't, just like Gollum couldn't - he has been corrupted for far too long, by a force much more powerful than him.
After regaining his physical form, Sauron sails West with a group of people. Later he says to Galadriel that he has sworn never to return to the Southlands / Mordor. We don't see when it happened, but assuming that it is true - perhaps he tried to escape Morgoth's influence by trying to get away from regions most marred by him? By staying as far away as possible from Morgoth's plans? Maybe that's why he wanted to stay in Numenor, a land close to the West, Valinor, and thus less corrupted?
He says to Galadriel that elves need him, because without him the darkness will spread and cover the whole world - he could be deceiving her, but he could also speak of Morgoth's plan here. Maybe the plan was set in motion when Southlanders started their blood sacrifices to Morgoth using the sword hilt from season 1? Maybe that's how the marring of the elven tree started?
What if Sauron really believed he could redeem himself by fighting alongside Galadriel? As Celebrimbor has noticed, Sauron is really good at deceiving himself!
What if he turned back to Morgoth only after some specific event, after coming back to Middle -Earth?
I have two possible moments in mind:
Eruption of Mount Doom and completion of Morgoth's plan was a magical event (the Lindon tree started deteriorating faster after the eruption, and Morgoth's plan assumed creating a place where evil would not only endure, but thrive), and it pushed Sauron back into the darkness - in that case maybe we'll get a flashback to this moment in the future, with Morgoth claiming Sauron back. Or maybe it would be something less dramatic - Sauron slowly falling back into his old ways and embracing Morgoth again
Galadriel's rejection in season 1, because of this quote:
"They say that Morgoth found the Silmarils so beautiful that after he’d stolen them, for weeks he could do nothing but stare into their depths. It was only after one of his tears fell upon the jewels that he was faced with the evil of his own reflection and the reverie was finally broken.”
Galadriel would represents silmarils and light, and her rejecting of Sauron would show him 'the evil of his own reflection '
Either way, I think by the end of season 1 Sauron has fully embraced Morgoth again.
I think when he cuts his hand, it's a blood sacrifice to Morgoth. When he says to Celebrimbor that 'True creation requires sacrifice' it has a double meaning, and he is mocking him, referring to this.
And this comes full circle with the blood sacrifices to Morgoth by the Southlanders in season 1, and the coming sacrifices that we know will come in the future.
I could be wrong about this, and it could turn out that Sauron has planned all this and is deceiving everyone, but the thought that he is also a victim in some way, makes his story more interesting and tragic.
So there you have it, I have some more Thoughts (trying to figure out this show has become a hobby of mine apparently, lol) - this time on how Galadriel fits into all this

I really am amazed by the number of people, on Reddit but even on Tumblr too, who genuinely seem to believe that Galadriel being wounded by Morgoth's crown will be inconsequential regarding her character development. They heard her say "the door is shut" to Sauron, saw her jump off a cliff hence resist him, so they believe, "that's it !" Galadriel's temptation for darkness is over for good, and she will probably not have much to do in the following 3 seasons except giving a heir to the returning Celeborn (whose arc she's bound to serve and not the other way round, apparently), build Lothlorien, protect it with Nenya and make an appearance once in a while so we can see her become the Lady of Light, the ethereal Galadriel Frodo met in Fellowship of the Ring, while the men do all the hard job of defeating Sauron.
I'm genuinely confused by these takes. Do these people hate the idea of Saurondriel so much that they want to see it die even at the detriment of Galadriel's character development and story? Or didn't they just even watch LOTR, saw Frodo get stabbed by a Nazgul and carry this wound all his life, to the point he was never able to lead a normal life again because of it ? Didn't they see Frodo physically react to the presence of the Nazgul who had wounded him, because the creature created a sort of bond between them? Didn't they see the scene where Frodo almost puts on the One Ring because the Nazgul uses the connection they have to push him into giving him the Ring?
Because if they saw all these scenes, and yet believe that for Galadriel, her wound will just heal with the help of Nenya and Elvish medicine and will have no consequences whatsoever on her future interactions with Sauron, I must say I don't get it. Sauron didn't use a random dark weapon to wound her, he used an object who belonged to Morgoth, the symbol of his power, no less. Sauron himself was stabbed to "death" with this crown, meaning there was still his blood on this very powerful artifact when he used it against Galadriel.
Why do they think that they introduced the second season with Adar's betray and "murder" of Sauron with Morgoth's Crown? Do they think it's only a coincidence that they started the season with this flashback, and finished it with Sauron using the same Crown to wound Galadriel ? Do they remember we saw him replace Mithril with his blood for the forging of the Nine ? He did that to have a total control over the men who would wear these rings. When he stabbed Galadriel, he pretty much expected to obtain the same result. It didn't happen thanks to Nenya and Galadriel's willpower, essentially.
Yes, Galadriel will partly heal thanks to Nenya, but the wound will always be there nevertheless. She was wearing Nenya when Sauron stabbed her and yet, Sauron managed to wound her badly and to create a bond with her, getting the ability to mentally speak to her. We never saw him do that with anyone, before. There's no way that in next season, Galadriel "just heals thanks to Nenya and move on with her life", never being prone to temptation ever again.
There's also no way that our Dork Lord just lets her go, now that he created this bond with her. If anything, it should make his obsession for her stronger than ever ! And I find a bit naive to think that Galadriel will immediately find the way to block him, "thanks to Nenya". There would be no point at all to this entire situation if it was only to give Galadriel a nasty wound, that sometimes hurts when Sauron gets closer 🤷🏼♀️

Things You Do Together- LoTR Characters
A little buffer posting during recovery, sorry y’all 😅 I have some requests getting ready too though! Did a version for Thorin’s company a while back so here’s this version too 🥰
Aragorn wishes there to be no secrets, as few misunderstandings as could arise. Thus his goal is to help you reach fluency in Elvish; after all, many of his friends and familial figures are of Middle Earth’s eldest race. Their script is quite complex, so barring a great desire of yours to be writing it soon Aragorn focuses upon recognition of important words and phrases. Starting, of course, with my love.
Legolas teaches you archery, standing behind you as you fire his bow. Such a patient teacher and not one to burst out laughing if the arrow arcs spectacularly right back down into the grass. Surely he will smile and shake his head, but he understands. Everyone was there once, himself no exception. Pays such attention to detail you will catch him making the smallest of adjustments, even little things like changing the position of your fingers with his.
Desiring to prove both his and his people’s worth, Boromir attends with you at his side a joust hosted by Gondor’s men. You delight in choosing and cheering on a champion, shouting with joy at his successes and sympathizing with strikes against him. When, you think aloud to Boromir, was the last time you both laughed so? Pulling you close, he tells you he does not remember when, but if he has his way it will be soon again.
If you desire exploration, you know that Gimli will be right at your side to enjoy the world’s beauty. Caves, of course, are a domain of his people, expanses of stone glittering on walls and hanging down to your level. Forests, too, homes of fairer beings and much provision. Things Gimli has sworn to protect and love in this life that he wishes to experience with the greatest of them all… you. Never does he tire of telling you nature is beautiful, but more so are you.
Frodo encourages your writing. He himself has penned you many a poem, but there is nothing like your voice, physical or metaphorical, sharing a story with him. His dream is a book containing both of your stories, perhaps even an addition to his uncle’s story. If you feel called to share stories of others, even simple escapes from reality, Frodo is your greatest supporter. With all that he endures, ever a relief is it to hear you speak of a world so different from his own.
Botany, Samwise Gamgee thinks, is best learned amongst the flowers themselves. Rather than stuff you up into the pages of some book, he takes you walking down winding Shire-paths of flowers and bushes, showing you how he can tell what's related by things like leaf shape and giving you little tips and tricks to remember bloom names. “If you forget forget-me-nots, after all,” he teases with a wink, “you’re doing them quite the disservice!”
Merry teaches you his method of whittling, the way he crafts little trinkets of wood to keep occupied in idle times. When you feel more confident in your skills, Merry challenges you: he crafts a little figure of you and you of him. Complain as you do that his lovely hair is hard to capture, in the end you are proud of your first figure and Merry keeps it in the pocket closest to his heart. Those figures serve as the cake topper at your wedding a little ways down the line!
It can be a messy time, but Pippin adores spending time in the kitchen with you! Not only because he knows you’ll acquiesce him with little tastes, but because he’s fascinated at the process, the way you throw things together to make something beautiful and are so willing to have a feast made whenever guests call. Ever one for physical touch, Pippin enjoys sugary-sweet moments like sneaking up behind you for a kiss as you’re occupied kneading dough or standing against you to help stir your soup. And yes, sometimes he spills, but he always apologizes and cleans up after himself and don’t we all make mistakes?
Faramir reads with you, or, if you are stressed, to you. Sharing a love of your land’s myth, the studies of triumphs, follies, and magics past are like traveling far away to him, so to have a companion in that rings deep joy into his heart. He cannot help sometimes comparing the great love stories of Middle Earth to the way you found each other. Faramir is the type to know all your favorite tales and offer them to you at just the right time, sitting you in his lap or against his chest on a bed as he peels the pages open for you.
Smithing is something Eomer is confident you can learn, especially if he knows you wish to be involved in battles and wants to keep you safe! Being a supplier is just as important, otherwise there would be no blades to hoist for Rohan. Always encouraging you to hit harder and chuckling at your initial fear of the red-hot steel, Eomer loves standing behind you and guiding your motions. Perhaps even using this as an opportunity to sneak a kiss!
Haldir shows you how he cares for trees, even the smallest pieces of creation. Small potted trees akin to bonsais decorate shelves and tables in Lothlorien, and trimming and shaping them is an art form in and of itself. Nurturing a tiny, delicate life, after all, requires more intricacies than the greater fortitude. Microcosms of Haldir’s home forest sit before you as you take in his reverent, peaceful smile, hear his guiding words about the nutrients they need. You never tire of the focus spread across his face, the gentle opening of tiny blossoms.
Eowyn adores sparring with you no matter your skill level, moving slower or picking up her pace depending on it. She never wishes to go too hard on you, but does want to push you to try new things and experience different angles so you can keep yourself safe in a fight, Valar forbid you are so threatened. Sometimes your sparring is more playful, more just the two of you chasing each other around with wooden swords and one knocking the other over at the end of it, laughing as you tumble to the ground.
Enjoying the occasional swim, Arwen invites you into one of her home's gorgeous pools with her, stripping you both down to thinner layers as you step into perfectly, perhaps magically, warmed water. Polished stones roll beneath your feet as you wade over to each other, hands joining as you float in peaceful, loving silence. A smile spreads across Arwen's face before she gives you a light, teasing splash, silence quickly devolving into giggles as your troubles lighten.
Elrond is known for making some of the best tea in Middle Earth, and you experience his skills and then some. Not only does the lord of Imladris brew you a cup of your favorite herbal blend, he will also ensure that his bakers have pastries warm and ready and the loveliest toppings. Your relaxation time is like a little ceremony, Elrond pouring your drink and serving you all you wish on your little platter. You will not so much as lift a finger until it is to take a sip of the warm comfort as you and Elrond watch the surrounding waterfalls.

Stolen Fantasy
The blue magic flames cascade away from your hands as the last orc falls before you. With no more enemies before you, you can entire the giant wrought iron doors to face the evil Orc King.
You’re alone, your friends are off fighting battles in other locations, keeping the armies distracted so you can do this quickly. You’re not afraid anymore, you've accepted your destiny.
No, no fear. The Orc King will pay for all he’s done.
You enter the lavish iron throne room and there, not on some large black metal throne but on a simple, comfortable wooden chair, sits a man. Just… just a man.
He claps dully as you enter.
“Welcome Hero,” he says. There’s an accent there, but you can’t quite place it. It sounds like the last shred of a homeland clinging to speech even though it’s been years.
The Orc King is older than you would have suspected. And you still can’t wrap your head around the face that he is human. The bad guy, the Orc King, is just an older black man. What the hell?
“You look confused,” he says as he stands to more properly greet you. It is then that you notice he’s wearing just plain old clothes, no mail, no defensive armor, and most strikingly no weapons.
“You- you’re human,” you say out loud.
“Yes, yes I am,” he says calmly. He kind of reminds you of a teacher you had once, waiting patiently for his students to catch the lesson.
“I don’t understand.”
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to halt the hostilities for a moment so we might talk,” he holds up a hand to signal the orc guard you didn’t see standing at the far end of the room. “Urlick? Please sound the stand down order. Only attack if provoked. And no killing please.”
The orc nods and leaves the throne room where a second later a loud horn is sounded.
“I don’t trust you,” you spit out the words at the tyrant. This has to be a trick.
“I’m unarmed, you have all the advantage, I’d just like to talk. Then I’ll return your love to you.”
“Where is she?” you demand. “Where is Velora?”
“Calm yourself. Your heart remains safe. I’m not the villain your old men have made me out to be,” he says, settling himself into a chair.
“Where is she?” you yell, blue fire erupting from your hands, and surrounding the Orc King.
As suddenly as he was surrounded by the magic it is gone again. The King swats it away like it is nothing more than an annoying fly.
The Orc King lets out an annoyed sigh. “Fine. I’ll let you see your poor Velora. But only for a moment. I wish to speak to you, and the longer your compatriots sit idle the more likely it will be that the fighting will start again. Perhaps showing you that your heart is safe will calm you down enough to talk.”
The villain calls back his orc guard and tells them to bring the guest.
Several tense quiet minutes pass and suddenly Velora sweeps into the throne room in a plain white dress looking as beautiful and ethereal as ever. Her black hair, a rarity among the elves, is shining and god - she is beautiful. But she has several bandages all along her arms.
She runs up to you and kisses you fiercely.
“I’m glad you’re safe,” she whispers in elvish to you.
“You’re injured,” you say in the broken language you’ve tried to learn for her over the last four years. You touch the bandages. “Did he-“
“No, no,” she says. “The Orc King saved me. He healed me.”
“What?”
“Trust me. Listen to him. Believe him,” she said, leaning down and kissing you once more.
The Orc King chuckles. “Please listen to me, but only believe what you determine to be true. Now, my dear, if you’ll excuse us? I believe Urlick will direct you to your friends, if you can kindly convince them to wait and not do anything terribly stupid.”
“Yes,” she says with a bow of her head that is just enough to be noticeable. “Thank you.”
“Thank you my dear. It was charming talking to you,” the Orc King says. He turns back to you the second she leaves. “Now, your heart is safe, your friends are as safe as I can reasonably allow. Can we please just talk for a few moments?”
You’re not about to give your sworn enemy for the last four years the chance to catch you flatfooted, so you remain standing.
“I’d like to tell you a story, and you can feel free to stop me when it sounds familiar,” the King says as he sits back down in the plain wooden chair.
“There’s a child, growing up on Earth, they have friends and a life and it’s merely ok. But one day, as a teenager, they get transported by magic to a faraway land. A land of magic and strange creatures and great evil and great good. An aging council of immortal wizards tell the hero that they are the key, the key to stopping a great and terrible evil. They are given powers and training, and they make allies, friends, lovers. There’s a despotic king, an evil king that they alone must stop, and over the course of their journey, the hero grows but there is also loss. Then at last the hero faces the evil King and they do great battle.”
“You know who I am. You know my story. So what?”
He continues, exactly like an old teacher ignoring interrupting students. “The evil is defeated, the hero victorious, but before the celebrations can truly begin the wizards who called the hero and gave them power, say that the journey is over, it’s time to go back. Things belong in the world that they came from, they say. That’s the way it is they say. Without time for an argument the hero is sent away, to pick up their old life where they left off. Without their friends, without their magic, with old wounds and useless knowledge. The home they went back to was no longer comforting, no longer home. Home was where they were just exiled from. The journey back is harsh and hard. But they make it back only to find some new start up hero coming to stop them.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Are you wondering why your magic doesn’t work on me?” the Orc King asks.
“Why?”
He holds out a dry, cracked hand and tiny magic blue flames lick across his skin. “I was taken from Harlem in New York City in 1924. I was seventeen. How old were you?”
“I’m… well I guess I’m twenty one now. I came here when I was seventeen too,” you say, dumbfounded.
“That was about how old I was when I finished up my quest. Where are you from?”
You tell him and suddenly feel like you need to sit down.
“I’ve always wanted to go there, but never got the chance,” he sighs. “So when I got here… over a hundred years ago, it was the elves who were the bad guys. Ha, I can see the disbelief all over your face. But let me say this, when they found out you were summoned by the wizards the old elves reviled and feared you, didn’t they?”
You nod. “Some of them wanted to exile me. A couple even wanted to execute me.”
“That is because they still fear me. I was summoned because your heart’s great grandfather, the one whom she is named for ironically enough, had stolen a spell of great power and destruction from the wizards. They claimed that they couldn’t get it back from him, lest he capture them and harness their powers to cast his spell to bring doom upon the world. I agreed to help, but only once I saw how badly the orcs were treated. They were less than second class citizens, they were almost slaves. Seen as unintelligent animals whose only use was to be used as manual labor or pack animals. Can you understand how that felt to me? Especially since I had the power to fix it.”
You nod, not entirely sure if you believe him. There would have been something, someone would have told you that the elves used to be the strong ones, instead of hiding in constant fear of orc attacks.
“Out of curiosity, what year did you come from?”
“Uh, 2015.”
“How is it there? Has it gotten better?”
“Better, yeah. Still not fixed, but they’re trying. It’s better than when you left though.”
“Oh good. Anyways, I faced the despotic elven king and we fought. He had terrible magic the likes of which I’d seen before. It was vaguely familiar to me but I couldn’t place it. In the end though I was victorious, I stopped the spell, and returned the power to the wizards. That was when I found out what the spell really was. The elves were trying to get back their immortality. Which had been stolen from them by a strange and powerful man decades earlier. Of course I tried to question the wizards about it, but they just sent me back without explanations.”
“Say all that’s true. You’re a hero like me, you’ve done all of this before. So what? Do you think that excuses what you’ve done?” you ask.
“And what, exactly, have I done?” the King asks.
“You drove the elves out of their lands! You burned down their entire forests out of spite! Did you know that I was at Ashe! I saw that slaughtered village! The village you massacred!”
“Hmm…” the old king mutters, rubbing his chin in thought. “I see. Well I see what you see. As for driving out the elves, well that was part and parcel to the freeing of the orcs from their overlords. There were battles, people died, land taken or retaken. My people, they were angry and I tried to keep them in check when I got back. But the orcs are proud people, their blood runs hot, and they are the kind of people that don’t forgive easily. And their scars run deep. So true, yes I did that. As for burning down their forests, well they weren’t theirs anymore and wood burns and fuels industry,” the King explained. “And you were at Ashe…”
“I saw your aftermath.”
“You stumbled into a delicate political situation young hero. I have been dealing with a growing revolt and attempted coup within my nation for some time. My loyal forces found a rebel encampment and the battle turned into a massacre. My forces laid waste to the town despite my ardent objections. When I found out what they did, I rode out and killed those responsible, as you witnessed. I killed my own people yes, but they were traitors and murderers. So I hardly think you can coach me on affairs of state or how I deal with traitors. I wonder how much of what you’ve been told has been rebel propaganda, since they are the anti-elven faction that so badly wants full scale war; how much of it is old elven hatreds that neither I nor they can unlearn. Could this whole thing have been resolved peacefully? Possibly. But I think it would take a better statesman than me to resolve this whole thing bloodlessly.”
You’ve been give a lot to think about. Nothing this man has said has totally lined up with what you were told. You just so happened to believe what the wizards told you, because they were the good guys, weren’t they? Isn’t that how it always worked? They summoned you, they gave you power, they’re the ones trying to maintain peace. Or was it just them trying to maintain the status quo regardless of whether or not it was right. You keep thinking about the way the wizards were so totally convinced you would have to kill the Orc King. They refused to tell you that there were any other options.
“A few more things,” he says gently. “If you’ll excuse an old man who likes to talk.” He smiles. He looks like one of your school acquaintance’s grandfathers. “Your magic, you’re incredibly adept at it. But know that it isn’t infinite. The wizard’s horde their stores of power because it keeps them immortal. But once your finite stores of magic are used up, you’ll live a normal life span. The wizards didn’t tell you this because they want to send you back without any of your magic left.”
“How do you know?”
“I fought those who sought to steal immortality, of course I figured it out eventually. Also I don’t look like a hundred and twenty year old man do I? I look in my fifties at best.”
You shake your head.
“And if you do find yourself back home and you want to return, you’ll have to figure out stepping. You’ve got to walk between the heartbeats of the universe. Take large steps but you have to go quickly. Also when you’re faced with the snaggletooth hermit out in the ice fields, he speaks in opposites. Yes is no, no is yes, left is right. But he knows everything. And there’s a shortcut when you get to the labyrinth, just go around it and not through it. Trust me, it’ll save you years. And I’m pretty sure that’s all of it,” he says after a long pause. “Yup that’s it. Oh wait!” He pulls a dull silver ring off his hand and gives it to you. “Is Lusario still with the wizards? He still doing the noble, new initiate routine?”
You nod, looking at the silver little band.
“You give that to him and tell him that I’m bitter and angry but I still love him.”
“You-“
“Yup.”
“Now what?”
“Well that’s up to you,” he says. “I can get dressed in to my armor and we can do battle. You’ll win of course. Youth and endurance always win over age and old wounds. Or you can walk out of here and take your friends with you.”
“You’re leaving the choice to me?”
“You are the Hero after all,” he says with a smile as he settles back into the chair. “Of course it is your choice.”
----
The ring in your hand holds your attention most of the trip back.
The inscription on the inner side of the band reads, “To my love, yours always, Lusario”.
You can’t help but think this whole thing was a plot, some desperate attempt to save himself.
Maybe this ring was stolen from a wizard’s old lover, or maybe forged to look that way. Or maybe the ring really was given to the Hero at one point.
If the Orc King was a Hero at all.
Maybe the Orc King, who said his name was Malcolm, stole power from the wizards or the elves or some other means. Maybe he really was an old Hero, shunned by the wizards who never expected him to return.
The entire trip back to the elven capital you are silent, speaking only to Velora. She is the only one you told of what happened in the throne room, of your now lingering doubts, and the last words of the Orc King said to you, “there are three sides to every story: your side, what they tell you, and the truth. Good luck with that.”
In return Velora told you of her capture. When you were ambushed by what you assumed were the loyal Orc army, it was in fact the rebels. They attacked you, to try and lure you into fighting and deposing the Orc King for them. She was in captivity for three days as the rebels beat and harmed her while trying to lure you to the Orc King. But she was rescued by the Orc King himself who defeated the rebels single-handedly when he found out that they’d captured her. He took her to the castle to heal her wounds, they talked, she learned much the same as you, but before she could be returned to the safety of the elven border forest, you assaulted the castle, so there was not much to do but wait.
This whole situation has your mind reeling. In all the stories you can remember the bad guy was never this nice, this easy to beat. And you weren’t fooling yourself, you are not some prodigy with magic, it never came easy to you, you had to work very hard to get this far.
No, something was different. It had to be. Or was the Orc King so much better at manipulation than anyone could have possibly imagined?
Maybe he was trying to twist you to his side, to fight against the wizards. What did he tell you? That youth and endurance would win against age?
The night before you return to elven territory, the place you now catch yourself thinking of as home, Velora finds you outside, quietly watching the sky, the stars. Unfamiliar constellations but so welcoming.
“What is it dear heart?” she asks with a voice like a sweet spring breeze.
“I’m trying to listen,” you whisper in reply.
“For what?” she asks.
“The heartbeat of the universe,” you say. “If Malcolm, the Orc King, if he was right… the wizards are going to send me back. But I don’t want to go. I want to stay here with you.”
She reaches over and grabs your hand. “But if you are sent away… you’ll never be able to return,” she says with distress clear in her face and eyes.
“Well if the Orc King was right, I can find me way back by stepping between the heartbeats of the universe to start my journey back.”
“Surely the wizards won’t send you away. They can’t! You’ve earned your place here!”
“I know,” you say with a squeeze of her hand. “And I hope he’s very wrong. But I can’t shake this feeling that he’s not. And I want to be able to find my way back to you, if something should happen. No matter what it takes.”
“If that happens then I’ll wait for you,” she says. “I’ll fight those old bastards if they take you from me. I’ll burn down their entire Tower of White. I’ll bring the armies of the elves to bear.”
You smile, you can’t help but smile. Velora always was a fan of fighting, using her incredible martial skills to get what she wanted.
“No need for that,” you say. “Not when we don’t know what’s going to happen. And besides we don’t want them sealing off the world behind me.”
“Fine. Then I shall wait, and listen.”
Another smile crosses your face as the pair of you sit down together in silence to try and hear the heartbeat of the universe.
You return to the elven lands the next day.
The word has already spread somehow. The revels have already started. The Orc King has been defeated, the favored daughter returned, the Hero victorious.
You were victorious.
Yet the win feels hollow somehow.
Especially when you see the wizards, and Lusario, waiting for you, just out of sight of the Elven High Council.
You steadfastly ignore them. You know in your gut this is it. They’re sending you home.
Velora catches your eye and she knows it to. Her hand moves to her swords, but you intercept them and hold her hands in your own.
You ignore the wizards as they try to call you over. You greet the Elven High Council instead, and Velora’s mother. You explain what you think should happen with the orc nation, and you stress for peace.
A messenger comes over telling you the wizards need to see you immediately and tries to pull you away, but before a second has passed with their hands on you, Velora as a sword on their neck. The second the wizard’s messenger let go of you, your heart shoves him into the crowd. She quickly grabs you and pulls you into the crowd in another direction, quickly losing your pursuers in celebration.
You quickly find a small shop willing to open to the Hero and the nation’s favored daughter. The two of you waste no time in buying rings of woven rowan and ash with rubies in their cores, like little hearts.
In the presence of your friends you quickly exchange rings and vows, kisses and promises.
You tell her once again that she is your heart before Lusario himself bursts in and pulls you out of there and away from your wife.
There’s a strange feeling as you step through the door, that feeling of thinking there is one more step at the top of the stairs when there isn’t and landing on a step you didn’t know was there at the same time.
You commit the feeling to memory, remembering the weird motions that lead up to it, the absence of sound in between the heartbeats of the universe.
Suddenly you are thousands of miles away, in the ivory tower of the wizards, the grand castle that holds the very font of magic.
“You’re late,” the old group of wizards snap at Lusario.
“My fault,” you say with a forced grin. “I wanted to stay with my wife for a bit longer.”
“The magic keeping you here is almost totally depleted, we have to send you back to your world immediately,” Arsen says angrily.
“That’s not true is it?” you ask. “Cause if it was you wouldn’t have needed to drag me all the way here. I could have stayed there until the last possible second and then just vanished.”
“You don’t understand,” Lusario says, still the only one of the wizards with any color left in his beard. “Everything needs to be in its proper place for life to continue like it should.”
“Also not true,” you mumble. “But if you insist.”
You throw the ring Malcolm gave you at Lusario. He catches it and in that second realizes what it was.
“He said he’s bitter and angry but he still loves you,” you repeat the message.
The second you say those words you know the Orc King wasn’t lying about that. You see the truth in Lusario’s face.
“How much of that is true?” you ask as Arsen grabs you and starts pulling you towards the same portal of blue flame you were pull through in the beginning all those years ago. “You called him to stop the elves from regaining their immortality. He freed the orcs from servitude didn’t he? You even sent someone to take the elves magic and immortality from them in the first place didn’t you?”
You never get an answer, just Lusario’s crying face that is either nodding or shaking in the horrific knowledge that he recruited and trained you to kill his lover.
---
You’ve been back for a week.
Only a week, but it’s felt like a lifetime. Everything here is too noisy and quick and rude. It doesn’t feel familiar anymore. It was like you fell asleep and this world was the dream. You’re not connected in any way to it any more.
You could only stand the city for three days before you left for whatever quiet patch of wilderness was closest. Even the small towns were too loud.
You’ve only been back a week. The rowan and ash ring is still on your finger. It is still growing ever so slightly, and it will continue to grow for as long as Velora loves you.
The big city was too much. Even if it isn't that big by the standards of the world, it's too much for you. You flee the city, the people, those that you once knew a different lifetime ago. As far away as you can possibly get, in a forest you find quiet, the first real quiet that you hear it. You hear that heartbeat of the universe. You pick up your foot and quickly take that first awkward step.
It was just like the Orc King said.
Where ever you were it was just cold, so very very cold. So you start walking. Hopefully you can get back quickly.
There are some things you need to address. It’s cold so you summon a tiny blue flame, but another of the Orc King’s warnings come back to you. You cease your magic and elect to remain warm by walking continuously forward.

5 sentence for you if it sparks anything ^_^
Astarion *mumbles in elvish*
Tav, intrigued “wait what was that??”
A/N: Okay, I did spark something, but slightly different from this set up. I hope that's okay!
Also, this is in keeping with the canon that Evie (Ace!Tav) can't read common. So, any Elvish they've learned is purely through what they've heard and conversational context.
You should have known you'd find trouble the second you saw the look on Astarion's face.
It wasn't the first time he'd seen you perform. However, it was one of the few times you had decided to sing as opposed to simply play. The crowd seemed right for it, and after going through your standard set list you had decided to end to night on an old favorite. It also happened to be the only song you knew in Elvish.
He looked so...delighted. It made you suspicious, not helped by his overly enthusiastic applause as you finished.
“Bravo," he exclaimed as you took your seat beside him. "And here I thought you didn’t speak Elvish."
“Not fluently. Just enough to negotiate a meal really," you admitted.
He nodded, his expression turning just a little too smug. “Ah.”
You narrowed your eyes, your lips turning into an unamused line. “What does “ah” mean?”
“Nothing you need to concern yourself my love," he assured, innocently. "So I take it you learned that song by ear.”
“Yes…" you said, frowning. "Seemed to be a crowd favorite.”
“Indeed it is. And you do play it so beautifully.”
You bit back a frustrated growl. If he was going to play coy, so could you. “Oh I don’t know. Something tells me I would play it much better if I knew what it meant. Perhaps if somebody could translate it for me.”
Astarion shook his head, clutching a hand to his chest is dismay. “Perish the thought. I wouldn’t dare jeopardize your performance. No, I believe it would be much better if you keep doing exactly what you’re doing.”
You gave a slight huff, realizing your efforts were futile. You then turned your attention to Shadowheart.
"It's all a big metaphor for sex, isn't it?"
She shrugged. "Not much of a metaphor."

Peredhel biology is interesting. They can become mortal or immortal; and it's not entirely clear what the "default" setting is. Is it even the same for all half-elves? What are the implications of being part-elf and part-man? And that's not even getting into the part-Maiarin or pseudo-Maiarin(? Earendil?) Peredhel. There are a lot of really interesting ideas and interpretations there, but I'd like to share a few I've been wanting to write about:
The Peredhel choice is a myth; whether half-elves become mortal or immortal is baked into their biology. Because of the nature of twins, one will always be mortal and one will always be immortal. (I'm mostly thinking about the implications for Elrond and Elros here because I don't even want to consider what that would mean for Elladan and Elrohir)
Peredhel have the strange ability to "mimic" those around them; they appear more elvish amongst elves and more mannish amongst men. No one really knows how they do this, but it's led to lots of stories about "changelings."
Actually, lots of Peredhel have weird, vaguely mystical abilities. Think about the kind of things you'd read about in a fairytale- speaking to animals, unusual strength, preternatural charm. These things aren't unheard of amongst elves or men, but they're a lot more common amongst Peredhel. It's suspected to be some sort of Ainuric boon, or possibly a result of half-elven souls being more "flexible."
Because their souls are inherently kind of unstable, Peredhel fade more easily then elves. That being said, the "symptoms" of fading are different (elves will literally become translucent, while half-elves will lose weight, sleep for most of the day and still be tired, etc.), so it's often assumed to be a normal mortal illness until it becomes a life-threatening situation.
Ulmo has kind of adopted the Peredhel as his people. He's their patron, and he cares for them all. Many half-elves live or work near or on the ocean, and for those who are immortal, the desire to sail west generally manifests less as wanting to go to Valinor and more a literal desire to go to the sea. Half-elves who are inclined to pray usually do so to Ulmo. There's a reason that Rivendell is protected by a river. Also, yes, Earendil is still absolutely Ulmo's guy, he's just also Varda's guy. They have a very friendly custody agreement.
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#peredhel#eldritch peredhel#half elves#peredhel meta#elrond#elrond peredhel#elros#elladan#elrohir#earendil#ulmo#thoughts!#not sure which of these I want to write about first#hope they might inspire some other people too

*・༓˚✧❝𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 ❞‧͙⁺˚༓˚✧ « one-shot »
Pairing : Frodo/Reader, Aragorn & Reader
Wordcount : 1.3k
No TWs | Gender-neutral reader | Read on Ao3 | Any dialogue in italics is Elvish
Summary : You've been in love with Frodo since the council of Elrond in Rivendell. And now, over two months from when you first realised you liked him (and around two weeks of constant travelling together), you realise you need to talk to someone about this. You don't even want to confess, or at least you don't mean too, so you decide to talk in Elvish.
After all, the only people who know Elvish are Aragorn (who you wish to talk to), Legolas (who won't gossip), and Gandalf (who you hope won't gossip either). It's not like Frodo could understand Elvish, especially as you confess just how deep your feelings for him are.
You have a small problem currently. Actually, to be more accurate, you have a rather large problem that (luckily) only affected you - and the hobbit you were in love with. Not that you’d told Frodo about your feelings towards him yet. He was the ringbearer, someone who was already on a quest of his own and didn’t need any more distractions from anything. So you figured that you would tell him once the quest was over, and simply pine pathetically while you travelled together.
It was harder than you expected, not talking to anyone about your crush - especially as you were spending all day, everyday with him around. The furthest you’d been apart from each other was probably a ten minute walk, and that had been when you had gone off to try and catch something for dinner that night. You quickly realised that you needed to talk to someone about these feelings (or else you might end up going crazy). The Fellowship wasn’t an ideal place to have conversations, generally the best you could do was be at the front or back of the walking line and talk quietly, yet you had a secret weapon.
As an elf, you could speak Elvish - a thing only three other members of the Fellowship could do. Of these three, you figured that Aragorn was your best option (you didn’t know Legolas well enough, and you are not talking to Gandalf about your love life). At the end of the second week travelling, you resolved to talk with the ranger once you had settled down for camp - that way the conversation could be semi-discrete but it wouldn’t be obvious you wanted to keep it a secret. Merry and Pippin had quickly demonstrated how they would try to bully people for conversation details.
Looking around where everyone’s set up camp, you feel relief when you see Aragorn sit down on a fallen tree - with enough room next to him for one more. Quickly, you go next to him, before remembering what you’re about to do and feeling nerves again. Another thing to be thankful for, as an elf there’s much less noticeable blush - or your crush would probably have been discovered while you were in Rivendell. Taking a deep breath, you quietly ask, “Aragorn?”
“Yes?” The ranger turns to you, “What is it, my friend?”
“I…” You switch to Elvish immediately, “I want to talk to you about the ringbearer.”
Seeing Aragorn’s expression become worried, you realise how bad that sounds and interrupt him before he can ask, “Wait - I realise how bad that sounds - it’s nothing for you to be concerned about. I just… like him.”
The relief on Aragorn’s face is obvious, and it instantly lightens, “I’d appreciate it if you led with that next time you want to talk privately about Fro- about him. I assume you simply wish for someone to pine with, so you don’t have to deal with these feelings alone.”
“Yes…” there’s no reason to hide what you’re here to do, but you can still feel the tips of your ears get slightly pink at the thought of talking about it.
“How long have you liked him, then?”
Aragorn’s tone isn’t that of gossip, but rather genuine interest. It’s easier to open up than you thought when you start speaking again, “Realised I truly liked him or when it was more of a crush? He was… sweet the second I saw him, truly. And all throughout the council he was incredible - how one hobbit could be so brave, could take such a burden and not lose the light in his eyes. He gives me hope, alongside other things.
But, I think I realised I truly liked him while we were in Rivendell. When he was attempting to learn our route to Mordor, while he was trying to spar with the sword Bilbo gifted him. The determination in his eyes was - is - breathtaking. And his laughs when I get to know him better, how his eyes sparkle like the elves when others make him laugh or he’s found something he’s interested in.”
“Since Rivendell?” Aragorn tilts his head slightly in curiosity, “It truly is serious, then.”
That’s the other reason you spoke to Aragorn - because he would understand more than almost anyone about an elf choosing to love a mortal. And you are not even of Lúthien’s line, to have the choice between an elven life and mortality. Unless the Valar themselves acknowledge your love, you will live on long after Frodo has passed away.
Noticing the darkness in your eyes, and the way you have fallen silent again, Aragorn speaks, “What is it you like about him?”
“He reminds me of a clear summer’s day - he’s pure, and… something about him lights up the rest of the room. It lights up yourself, and your spirit. He makes me smile whenever he’s around, whether it be through action or through word.” You let yourself smile, “Or even just through being here.”
“You truly are in love.” Aragorn’s tone is lighter, he has a smile matching your own, “What else?”
“What else?” You think for a second, before something else comes to mind, “Aragorn, my friend, I will kill you if you tell anyone else this.”
“I will not speak of this to anyone, you have my word.”
“I’m sometimes jealous of you. He just…. He looks at you like you’ve hung the stars sometimes - and I know it’s because of your oath and that you’ve earned his trust. But if I could, I would hang the stars for him as well, and the sun and the moon if he asked me. I would have him look at me that way, with love.”
There’s understanding in his eyes, and some amusement as his grin is filled with something other than understanding. “I think Frodo does look at you like that.”
“Don’t-” You gently kick the ranger in the shin, “What makes you say that?”
“Just look at him.” Aragorn answers easily, nodding his head to where the hobbits are.
You turn around too, and see Frodo looking practically directly at you - his face heavy with blush, with even a pink tint to the tips of his ears. Upon realising exactly what you’ve said, you can feel your face begin to burn too - and even though your face shows very little pink you know Frodo can see you blushing. But to your surprise it makes him smile (as well as blush even more). And he’s truly looking at you - looking at you with adoration you didn’t know you needed until his eyes met yours.
“Can you-” you force yourself to swallow and speak through the embarrassment, “Can you speak Elvish?”
“Yes, almost perfectly.” Frodo’s answer is sheepish, but there’s a shy smile on his face as he struggles to make eye contact that makes you love him even more. “I- I truly like you too.”
He leaves the others around him, coming up next to you and sitting on the fallen tree (your thankful Aragorn has moved off it, although you’re not sure when). Now the two of you are so close, you can see his face more closely - the blush makes his hair look even more beautiful, a larger contrast. His smile is still just as wide, but something about it seems more genuine.
You’re so busy admiring him you don’t even notice his hand going towards yours until he takes your hand, gently holding it. You instantly tighten the grip, letting him know just how much this means. There’s another beat of silence before he speaks again, this time quietly but in common tongue. “You don’t have to hang the stars for me, you’re already incredible.”
Hope you enjoyed! Requests are open <3

Soap with an Welsh f!reader? 😩 With him just trying his best to learn her about culture, language and country. Just loving her so much that he'll do anything for her. You can add anything I just want my Welsh representation ‼️
Johnny ''Soap'' Mactavish x Welsh!Reader
a/n: i did research. sort of. still, im sorry if its not perfect :( i also havent written fro johnny before so this is.. new
mentions: Fluff, Johnny's an arse, but it's cute
''So, yer basically speaking Elvish, that's it?'' A Scottish voice snaps you from your thoughts. A Scottish voice that belongs to a man you'd very much like to punch and slap. Knowing Johnny was.. dreadful, but even more so now that he seemingly discovered Welsh was the inspiration for Tolkien's Elvish. Your culture wasn't something you spoke about often in the group, mostly because you didn't think any of the members would bother with it.
But then there's Johnny, who seems to be almost too into it. He was constantly at your side, teasing and asking about it. You were wrong, however, to assume that it held ill intent. He was head over heels. Totally smitten. With you, the way you looked, the way you acted.. Ofcourse he was going to try and get to know you. Despite your annoyance, he didn't let up. He'll get what he wants eventually.
''Not really Elvish then, Bonnie?'' He asks, leaning to you in the booth of the bar. Fuck, that nickname too.. You had to look it up the first time he called you that, thinking he was calling you by someone else's name.
''Not really, Johnny.'' You grumble in response, downing the last of your drink with hopes that it may numb the irritation and secret attraction for him. Sure, he was a cock, but he also had this irresistible aura around him that was intoxicating somehow. It made you want to linger around him, so you did just that with the hopes it wouldn't be too obvious.
''So it's just inspired it, then, lass? Come on, talk to me.'' He presses, causing you to huff and shift towards him. ''Yes. It's just inspired. But it's a bit annoying because that's all people talk about when I tell them i'm Welsh.'' You mutter, which causes his smile to twitch slightly. Shit. Bad move, Johnny.
He clears his throat, scooting a little closer to you. ''Alright. Tell me somethin' interesting, then.'' Johnny says with a nod, staring at you. The way he's giving his undivided attention is making you slightly flustered, especially with the way he's looking at you. Good grief..
You move again, your hands placing around on your thighs as you think of something to tell him. Eventually you let out a little breath, ''Um, well, the language is very pretty. Cariad means darling, for example.'' Why am I telling him about nicknames? ''Uh, blodyn means flower.''
As you speak, Johnny's nodding along, seemingly very interested. ''We also have these things called love spoons, and they're just spoons with symbols engraved in them. It's like a token of love, sort of.. My mum always got me ones with flowers on it. It means love. It's kind of silly, but it's sweet.'' You say, smiling fondly at the memory. When you briefly glance up at him, he's practically swooning as he looks at you. ''Sounds adorable, lass.'' His hand rests on the free spot between you two, inching a little closer to your thigh. You smile softly, tilting your head. So he is actually interested. ''Uh, yeah, it's.. yeah.'' You reply, slightly unsure how to continue the conversation. Awkward silence washes over the two of you until Johnny speaks up again.
''So, you plannin' anything after this?'' He asks, his other arm gently snaking around your shoulders. You aren't sure if it's the drinks you've had, or that Johnny just looks so damn good that causes you to lean into him, shaking your head. ''Mm, alright, lass. How about we watch a little movie after, aye?'' His other hand places on your thigh, giving a soft squeeze.
''Only if ya want to, though, No pressure.'' He adds quickly behind it, not wanting you to feel pressured– especially when intoxicated.
You nod, leaning your thighs over to his side, as if telling him it's okay. ''Sure. Aslong as you don't talk about that fuckin' Elvish again.'' You reply, and let out a little noise when Johnny's hand wraps around your waist to pull you flush against him. ''Or what, Bonnie?'' He teases, looking down at you. ''I'll shut you up.'' You blurt, realizing just how wrong it sounds until after you've said it. He snickers, his hands toying at the edge of your shirt. ''Oh, yeah? You will?''
You give an annoyed grumble in response, feeling your face heat up. That wasn't how you meant that comment. At all. You can feel Johnny lean in a little, his breath hitting your ear. ''Shut me up then, lass.''
You definitely did when you got back.

(Because I want Reina throwing the canon!verse into chaos)
"Absolutely not. I won't allow it!" Hiashi raged, slamming both hands onto the table.
"Unfortunately, we may have no choice. Konoha cannot afford another war at this moment." The Sandaime sighed, looking every single one of his years at that moment. "Not when we are still recovering from the Kyuubi attack."
"Still, what kind of precedence does this set? That we allow foreign nin to kidnap our children and steal our bloodlines, and yet we are the ones to pay retribution?" Inoichi asked sharply. "You say we cannot afford another war, but surely we also cannot afford to look this weak in front of our enemies."
"What Inoichi said. After what those bloodline-stealing, clouds-for-brains ninja tried to pull? If anything, they should be worried about us declaring war on them," Inuzuka Tsume snarled.
"This move buys us time while we build up strength," Utatane Koharu argued. She shot Hiashi a sharp look. "This wouldn't have been necessary had you the foresight to show a little restraint. I don't know what you were thinking, killing off a high-ranking Kumo nin with diplomatic immunity--"
"He took my daughter--"
"He was evidence--"
"Enough," Hizashi spoke up quietly. "If this will save lives and ensure the safety of the Byakugan, then I am willing. I can think of no more honorable way to serve my village and my clan."
"Try living," a new voice called from outside the doors, a split second before they opened and a vaguely familiar woman walked in. She was startlingly pretty, Hizashi couldn't help but notice-- delicate, almost elvish features, bluish-black hair tied up in a casual twist, deep blue eyes with a hint of mischief within.
Amidst all the ninja stiffening in alarm, Hizashi noticed Uchiha Fugaku letting out a low groan, pinching the bridge of his nose in an uncharacteristic display of emotion.
"Kobayashi-san," the Hokage said, eyeing her with...wariness? What was going on? "This is a classified meeting."
"Yes, you really do need to work on your security seals, Sandaime-sama, they're terribly outdated," she mused. "I do apologize for the intrusion but I admit to feeling rather worried after I overheard this esteemed council seriously consider handing one of Konoha's most valuable dojutsu over to Kumo on a silver platter." She clasped her hands behind her back, offering him a falsely bright smile. "As a tax-paying citizen of Konoha, you'll take my concerns into consideration, I hope."
Across the table, Nara Shikaku snorted at the blatant sarcasm in those words.
"Reina-san--" Fugaku growled. The woman--Reina-- waved at him cheerfully.
"Hi Fugaku-san! Mikoto-chan would like you to pick up some tomatoes on your way back. Sasuke-kun got into the pantry again, so we're out." She shook her head fondly. "That boy, honestly. I don't know what to do with him."
Next to him, Hiashi choked on his spit while most of the room stared at her in disbelief (with the exception of Tsume, who was currently stiffing her laughter behind a fist). With an abrupt start, Hizashi remembered where he'd seen this woman before. It had been a popular topic of gossip the past few days, when the Uchiha Matriarch had, seemingly out of nowhere, struck up a close friendship with a civilian woman who made a living decorating cakes and cookies.
Hizashi glanced at the woman standing calmly in front of them, having effortlessly broken into one of Konoha's most secure buildings, completely unconcerned by being in a room full of Konoha's most powerful and influential ninja.
If she was a civilian, he'd eat his shoes.
"We wouldn't be 'handing the Byakugan over on a silver platter,' girl," Danzo scoffed, narrowing his eyes. "Don't speak of things you don't understand."
"Oh? Because by my understanding, you were planning on sacrificing Hizashi-san's life for his brother's and just hoping the Caged Bird Seal does its job and prevents Kumo from utilizing the Byakuyan," she said sweetly. "The problem with that plan, of course, is that the Caged Bird Seal is an absolute atrocity and an embarrassment to fuuinjutsu, designed by someone who cared more about enslaving his family members than actually protecting his bloodline."
"The Caged Bird Seal is infallible," Hizashi interjected before he could stop himself, voice hoarse. It was infallible because it had to be-- because if it could fail, then his and his son's suffering meant nothing.
An unreadable expression crossed her face.
"Is it?" She asked softly. "Why don't you ask your son that?"
She turned towards the door.
"Neji-kun, come inside for a moment, will you?"
His son walked inside, forehead bare as the day he was born, and Hizashi's world shattered.
~~
"How? How did you remove the Caged Bird Seal?!"
"What, like it's hard?"
~~
"So you've proven that the Caged Bird Seal can be removed," Danzo glared at her. "That does not solve our problem; in fact, it worsens it."
"Danzo is right," the Sandaime agreed. "Kumo will still demand payment in blood and--"
"No, they won't." Reina tilted her head to the side. "Oh, I probably should have started with that. Yeah, they retracted their demand for Hyuuga-san's life, and send along their most sincere apologies for what happened, and their most sincere assurances that they had no idea their head ninja was planning such a thing, blah, blah, blah. You're welcome."
There was a long silence. It was the first time Hizashi had ever seen Sarutobi Hiruzen speechless. He probably would have enjoyed it more had he not been so focused on keeping his own mouth from dropping open.
"Um, excuse me. What?" Inoichi asked, sounding as gobsmacked as Hizashi felt.
"How the hell did you manage that?" Tsume exploded.
"Passed along a message?" Reina shrugged. "Although to be honest, it wasn't so much the content of the message as much as the method of delivery."
"Reina-san," Fugaku said, voice low and laced with dread. "What did you do?"
She grinned, twirling around a very familiar looking kunai-- one that Konoha hadn't seen in a very long time. Next to him, Hiashi drew in a sharp breath.
"Did you know A has one of these just lying around in his office? Probably in an attempt to deconstruct it. But oh man, you should have seen his face when I popped in!" She laughed. "Or should I say, flashed in. Never seen a man turn white so quickly! That was totally worth the motion sickness."
Kumo, after Reina breaks into their Kage’s office with an S-Class jutsu that was thought extinct but still gives like half the ninja world PTSD: I’m sorry Konoha, I wasn’t familiar with your game
(In Reina's world, there's like half a dozen people who know the Hiraishin, although obviously Minato's the best at it. Reina learned because after what happened with Obito and Rin, she wanted a way to teleport instantly to her precious people in order to provide emergency medical care (she also was on standby while Minato was developing it, just in case of any teleporting mishaps/he ended up needing any limbs reattached). She doesn't use it for combat though and dislikes using the jutsu as it gives her motion sickness. Kushina also technically knows it but doesn't have the chakra control to use it effectively. Kakashi and Orochimaru also know how to use it, and Minato plans on teaching Naruto one day as well. Which is a sharp contrast to the canon world, where the number is like zero).
