It was waaaaay too cold today for more than a short long-walk with the pup. This is my beautiful friend @missbassethorn Rachel who is running her first ultra tomorrow at the @taraweratrailmarathon50k , and here we are at Rachel's Springs while exploring today. Bear with me, because there's a story here and a novella of words. Rachel introduced me to Billy Yang's work this year. I've had the great fortune of exploring a goldmine of his films each deep with heart, grit and spirit. One especially has stayed with me this week. Billy @larunr filmed Andy Jones Wilkins @ajoneswilkins 2016 speech to the Western States 100 miler crowd of starters. Guys, if you're reading this: I watched that video over and over and over. I'm not running 100 miles this week. But your words about start lines and finish lines resonate and keep zinging around and around in my head with possibility and energy. Whether it be on the road, trail, in the mountains, or even the treadmill, it becomes whatever I need it to be that day. It is my passion, my escape, my happy place.
