LAKE DUNSTAN STUNNER! ππβ¨ Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow! This is a special one. It opened in just May this year. It's built as a cycle trail and friendly toward allllll users including feeling purpose built for runners with that sweet smooth gradient. (Chris right now in his recap: "well, I'm feeling quite *comfortably* broken") We parked the camper in Clyde, and hopped on a shuttle to start the run from Cromwell. The trail weaves from Cromwell to Bannockburn then down the length of the Clutha. The engineering to clip these pathways to the cliffs is pretty epic! Bridges and pathways balance sit right above the water. And then - no kidding - there is coffee half way thanks to @coffeeafloatnz . They had cold drinks and ice blocks too. (Yes we had all three). It was BAKING out there, and it will get a whole lot hotter. Take all the sunscreen. I had 2 litres of water and Chris 2.5 litres - we would've done with more. Compulsory swim stop at 37 kilometres was absolute heaven, then walking it out the final 5 kilometres in wet clothes (and big smiles). 42 kilometres, all day adventure, so many happy cyclists, and here we are going to bed back on this beautiful lake again. Do it do it do it do it! 12/10 recommend for an excellent joyful day π₯° https://www.instagram.com/p/CWsLpjovhDMi_wPSpSDiF6D5H-lFnzpWQHCYbM0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Home for tonight π We're staying on the banks of the Clutha River and admiring the Lake Dunstan trail we'll be running tomorrow -- just a skip over on the other side of the water. So here we are. Listening to the swishes of water. Watching cyclists rolling past. Greeting duck friends coming to visit. The light dropping behind the hills, slowly. Scheming for tomorrow's 42 kilometres including the famous half way coffee shop - more on that tomorrow. So excited to go play out there and see even more of it! https://www.instagram.com/p/CWpuvNgP_e1q_cgwxyzmoc8a-YPr8G5sO25CXM0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello Central Otago! π Not even a month since we were here last, and we're magnetically drawn back to these landscapes and adventures and big skies. First stop today: the CHEESERY including cheese rolls! Second stop today: a side of the road fruit stall for fresh fruit including cherries and a real fresh fruit yoghurt eaten under a shady tree because oh jeepers it was 24 degrees Third stop today: eyeing up the start line for tomorrow's run from Cromwell! π It's so darn beautiful! And on and on it went in an afternoon of little adventures in our wee camper. Tomorrow we run the (nearly) brand spanking new Lake Dunstan Trail, from Cromwell to Clyde ππΌββοΈβ€οΈ https://www.instagram.com/p/CWptzb7P_-StArXBQhJXsZruqooJ7d4t440Yaw0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Trails throwback to the magnificent Queen Charlotte Track a couple weeks ago -- who knew tropical paradise was so close to Wellington! We headed down as a big crew to run the famed Lochmara half marathon. (Mal - you legend - thank you so much for putting this all together). It lived up to the reputation: friendly as heck, soaring trails of happy, finish line festivities that continued for 12 hours, the loveliest people from Scottish to share the time with π₯° where we had so much fun I have no photos of us as a happy crowd, and the excellent life choice of extending our time there by an extra night. This meant: - bonus time with Jaime! We got 24 extra hours which balances things toward joyfulness when that damned inter island ferry is late AGAIN - stand up paddling! So much! What beautiful time out on the water, including Chris and Jaime playing with DOLPHINS π - an extra extra trail marathon! I mean why take the water taxi from Lochmara to Picton when you could Run All Day! (It was very hot. Very tiring. Very awesome. But very long. There was a magical place half way that sold ice blocks and cold drinks. We stumbled in. It was like a desert oasis. We bought an ice block and cold drink each, finished them, then bought ANOTHER ice block π₯΅). 41 kilometres. We made it to the inter island ferry with 90 seconds to spare. - and returning home with full souls and tired legs and already planning the next little trips on the water and near the water ππ https://www.instagram.com/p/CWpsaUmvDrYK23xoEECWYqBOsuJSlcPKGHYX1w0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Come for the running, stay for the people β€οΈπ 5 years ago I thought I was joining a running club. I did. I had been thinking about it for long enough: but oh you know I wasn't serious enough, fast enough, good enough. (My words. No one elses). I got faster, I got slower. I ran longer, I ran shorter. I trained more, I trained less. I found balance, I was unbalanced. But oh heck. I found amazing people. People who continue to shine so darn bright both when wearing gold and without. Yesterday I ran 10,000m on the track, and it was great to get a good hit out. (Fastest, nope. High expectations beforehand, nope. Happiest race on the day, YUP!). Greater still was the company and the reminder of this beautiful team @wellingtonscottish π¦ππ https://www.instagram.com/p/CWP_rzxPL3jb_shBkFePZUs7pjvDxKH4Haiu700/?utm_medium=tumblr

Today I baked savoury and sweet for @good_bitches_baking π and delivered it to NICU at Wellington Hospital. I think we always know it matters, but the smile beams when it was received (and even more so when introducing myself to reception with a cheery "Hi I have a delivery for you, I'm a Good Bitch!" was one heck of a day maker. Wellington As: Ministry of Food cheese scones on the left (yes the correct ratio is 1:1 cheese and flour) and Fix & Fogg peanut butter cookies on the right (dairy free / GF / egg free / friendly as) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV1_nivvjDmu1mg2kNr5eJEMuDKhYaTwHqFTBU0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Home β€οΈππΎβ¨ Away for 2 weeks of holy-flipping-amazing-adventures. (Still trying to put words around those). Home to enjoy the everyday things: time with friends π₯°, loving time in our local backyard both literally and metaphorically in (love youuuuu Waimapihi Polhill), cherishing these sweet little feline souls, baking up a storm daily, ever appreciative of the city brightening with the days of spring, drinking 3 cafe coffees in a day (yes there were more than that in total). And the rest: taking a step away from the news cycle after time off grid, reflecting on what this year means to us, contemplating the next steps into work, lots of thinking and dreaming and enthusiasm. 3 days / 2 nights up in this magnificence this week -- Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track π Spring is a whirlwind! Will it be hot, cold, windy, snowy or blinding sunshine? We had pencilled in to hike the whole way around having run it twice and quite liking the idea of more time at each place. Then it snowed! Holy hecking beautiful! 12/10 on the spectacular scale, worth the rejigged plans π We instead went up into the snow for a day trip to see if we could continue on, and returned to safety (and those views!!) at Luxmore Hut β€οΈ Next stop: Greenstone Caples, and more happy hiking. https://www.instagram.com/p/CVH4PYVJP2Klx5DZ0xwwJqmHtuAwAyA29a2x-k0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Making friends with kea on the Kepler Track today. I just bloody love them! We made a day trip of heading up to the alpine section in big snow (from Luxmore) before bailing out and heading back down to the hut. When Luxmore Hut is this beautiful .. we were pretty happy to spend an extra night here with our cheeky Kea hosts instead of continuing on. Safety first π₯° PS. Fix & Fogg maple coffee peanut butter got kea crazy interested. I guarded my lunch with my life. No human treats for kea! https://www.instagram.com/p/CVCRv7TpJH0tsLKHi1n9ZT9GlJzaFDNYJsM9ns0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Snow, snow, snow, snow! Then all this vibrancy of colour and new life and warmth and hardy souls of daffodils that keep on going in bitter cold. Spring! You sure dial up the brilliance Queenstown! Today we galloped around Queenstown until early arvo, then road tripped to Te Anau to head up to the Kepler tomorrow. (No photos of tiny lambs because too much exclaiming at the constant happy leaps). Next stop: Luxmore Hut which we've only ever run past, always doing the 60 kilometres in a day. So tomorrow we hike ~20 kilometres from Te Anau town, put on alllllll our clothing layers, and leisurely hang out on a beautiful Great Walk hilltop β€οΈ https://www.instagram.com/p/CU9qc9sp8PIuoelDbJ9Q-iklvliZJ0RKYtY9fA0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Double dose of smiles β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ SO HECKING STOKED to be fully vaccinated with my fellow freckle queen, vaccine queen and jab buddy @lindsontheroad π₯° We got the first dose at the same time, and the second was shared again a couple days back -- this time we got to go in at the together and again sit out the waiting time in blazing sunshine outdoors βοΈβ¨(yes I got more stickers) Physical effects? Nada. I feel great. Slightly heavy arm. Emotional effects? All the feelings. I feel we're taking steps to put the world back together again. I knew this would be a biggie in unlocking travel to see beloved people globally, and in what it means locally for us all -- sure, it help looks after me personally but in what it does for all of those around us as a society is everything πππ https://www.instagram.com/p/CU6ecCYpk_-ihVgb3dNKW6XmyPB6zqgu1gV5rU0/?utm_medium=tumblr
