People who write novellas must be absolutely going though it bc I've never read a novella that wasnt utterly devastating. These people really have Things to Say and whats more they do it in under 200 pages.

i feel like something a lot of ppl who were abused as children (including my past self, that tightly wound perpetual motion machine) forget is that a lot of the time the intent of random people in passing interactions does not have to matter. did they mean to be passive aggressive. are they making a power play. etc etc. who cares!! they in fact have zero influence/power over me if i don’t hand it over. we’re literally just two adults interacting unless we both fill other roles. if i don’t play the power struggle game then it’s not played, if i don’t defer then we’re not in imbalance. it takes two to tango and you can simply mentally say your dance card is full, look them in the eye and navigate the interaction as if you’re both on the same page and save playing with power dynamics for the next time it’ll be consensual (and optionally kinky).
