What if scenario: Desmond dies and is reborn in AC2 and ends up somehow being betrothed to Claudia instead of Duccio. (Duccio still gets beaten up though lol) Desmond has his memories like in yew branches.

I’m sure there’s going to be at least three people (one of them being Claudia herself) who would joke that he only wants to marry Claudia to finally be Ezio’s brother. XD

Okay, in all seriousness, let’s talk about how this would work.

Betrothals during this era is quite… early. Claudia herself is betrothed to Duccio by the time she is 15 so it won’t be surprising if their betrothal happened when she was 13 or 14.

Now, you mention Yew Branches and I think that we would have an easiest way to make this happen by just kicking Desmond into a canon character that would make sense to be betrothed to Claudia.

Of course, the first target that comes to mind would be one of the Medicis, mainly because that would fortify the alliance between House Medici and House Auditore and Claudia would be marrying ‘up’ but the oldest son of Lorenzo would be Piero and he has an 11 year difference with Claudia and would be 4 when Claudia is 15.

Claudia would definitely complain and say no. Honestly, pre-tragedy Claudia feels like a girl who would be into older men because she’d think they’re sooooo mature and ‘dashing’ and ‘mysterious’. A bit of a hopeless romantic keeping her Auditore audacity at bay.

So…

May I suggest… kicking Desmond into being reborn as Lorenzo’s unfortunate will-die-in-the-Pazzi-conspiracy younger brother, Giuliano?

He would be 8 years older than Claudia but that’s fine. There are larger age gaps in Renaissance Italy (Lucrezia’s 14 year gap with Giovanni Sforza for example) and it would be funny if Claudia is actually attracted to him because he’s cool, strong and sooooo mysterious.

Desmond… Desmond just wants to save everyone, goddammit.

Also… this gives us an excuse for Desmond to have complicated feelings over having Lorenzo as his brother.

If you’re still iffy with the age gap, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici is only 2 years older than Claudia and marrying Claudia to a branch family member of the Medici would be a better move because Lorenzo is trying to lock in the Auditores’ loyalty (and the Assassins’ support) but marrying from the main family seems a bit… ‘wasteful’.

Either way, pre-tragedy Claudia? She’d definitely be attracted to Desmond.

Post-tragedy Claudia? Yeah, she’d cling to Desmond more because she’s so lost but, once she gets her feet to the ground and starts understanding the ‘freedom’ she has in Monteriggioni, she’d probably be the one to break off the engagement (especially if this is Brotherhood!Claudia).

Desmond accepts it but, shit… He can’t believe he’s saying this but…

He might have accidentally fallen in love with Claudia already???

Time in the underworld was imperceptible. Somehow, against that well-known fact, this break felt longer. Odysseus had been gone; his voice silent and his presence invisible. The only remaining piece of him was the seashell threaded charm that clicked on Tiresias' staff when shifted.

Then, he was back. The king stepped onto the island with sandal-clad feet, approaching the prophet with a small, weak smile. His cape is back, clipped over his shoulder with an old pin he had long forgotten. The depiction of the owl had been carved away, redesigned with scales.

"Hey there, star." He greets. Odysseus' voice is heavy with the weight of so much left unsaid. Tales of monsters and mistakes. Mortal and familiar. His heart is still fighting against his mind each night, and his eyes reflect the tiredness. Guilt clawing silently at scars.

[ the prophet, sat at the bottom of one of the cliff faces, barely moved. Even looking up, it didn’t feel like they even were looking. Everything about them seemed just as tired, but they seemed more broken than before, and their voice reeked of desperation to get out of their self-fed isolation ]

“What? Who—? Oh. Ody. Oh not now, please love, I can’t— not today, okay. You’re tired and I’m— . . . you don’t need to keep visiting, now. After everything. You made it back. Go enjoy your time, will you? Be with your family. For me.”

Saw an edit of that "I am you" scene from jjk with Izuku and Shigaraki, and it made me irrationally angry. That's just such a complete misunderstanding of the characters dynamic and narrative role that I have to tell myself it is probably just a joke to stop myself from yelling.

Yeeaaaahh, I don't think whoever edited that doesn't get the dynamic between the two pairs.

I get it, "it's just an edit", I know before someone says anything but...

The "I am You" scene isn't fitting for Izuku and Shigaraki because it totally opposite of what they have going on.

For that scene, Yuji accepts his role as a cog. From then, he only sees Mahito as just another curse to kill. He doesn't want to save him. He doesn't emphasize or sympathize with him. Mahito doesn't have a sad backstory or any redeeming qualities to him. Mahito was born of humans as many curses are, but he isn't human. He isn't going to have an inch of goodness in him because he was born from the negativity of human emotions.

For Izuku and Shigaraki, while they're enemies and one of them is blinded for their hatred of society, the other is trying to save him. Izuku doesn't see himself as a tool. He sees himself as a hero and as a hero, he wants to save people. Shigaraki happens to be one of the those people. I know some folks hate Shigaraki and his actions are terrible, unlike Mahito, Shigaraki is still a human being. The factors that pushed him to where he is are not entirely his fault. His villainy was influenced by the actions of the people in his life. Nana's abandonment of her son who grew up resenting her and then mistreating his own son. Tenko eventually snapped, killed his family but some he didn't mean to because his quirk went out of control. He roamed the streets since he didn't have a home and no one helped. Then All For One came and adopted him, gave him another name and raised him and thus Tomura Shigaraki came to be.

Before anyone says anything, I'm not excusing Shigaraki's actions and I'm stating how it is.

I also heard about how some people would edit some Adele song over that scene and I heard a snippet of that song but... I won't lie, I have nothing against Adele and people can do whatever they want, have fun, but hearing music over that scene just doesn't do it for me.

What I really like about that "I am You" scene besides well everything is that there isn't any song that plays in the background. Instead, the sound design team opted for sound effects and just sound effects. And I love that.

It really allowed me to hear just the coldness in Yuji's words and the fear in Mahito's noises.

No song is needed for that whole sequence at all when you can hear the snow crunch under their feet as Yuji pursues Mahito and the thuds of impacts from Mahito falling to Yuji punching at him.

Like, yes!!

Yeeaaaahh. It's such a sharp turn around too– she didn't dislike him before, but she was sick of his shit more often than not and thought Alastor must've brought him along purely so he could cause problems for the hotel. Finding out the truth changes everything. She probably gets really protective of Niffty too, although since she doesn't have people actively fighting over her, she gets a bit less attention.
