under the New Year’s Eve mistletoe
Coldest Winter (Levi Ackerman)
summary: a soldier’s heart and a man’s will is tested when war breaks out leaving him stranded and finds himself far away from the life he only once dreamed of the moment he met you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is no glory in battle worth the blood it costs, for war does not determine who is right— only who is left.

December 31, 1942
to my dearest,
I wrote this letter to you on the 14th of July, Year 1942. It is with a heavy heart I bring this news to you. Today, the platoon had decided to send our unit to the north of Kolberg, Germany for the next operation. It seems like the war won’t be stopping anytime soon and by the time you have received this, it will be around late December. I miss you and not a single day goes by that my thoughts weren’t plagued by you.
I missed you and think of you even at times I shouldn’t. I have you in mind all the time and I haven’t forgotten about the promise I made to you.
I might not be able to come home soon, but I will come home to you and run with my feet if I have to. Right now, it must be the eve of the 31st of December when you’re reading this.
Please, don’t worry about me and I’ll do the same. There’s a lot of things for me to say that the tip of my pen won’t be able to suffice and before I forget to tell you, there’s an odd spot at your place where I seem to have grown fond of, especially with my last visit a year ago. At the backdoor where the scenery of nature can be witnessed, there’s something that I would like to do. I won’t go into details, but I hope when the next winter comes, I’ll be there by your side. Then we’ll settle the rest of things under the mistletoe.
The world is cruel and full of danger, but it’s merciful enough to have led me to you.
- L.A

Post-return arthur that is so bored that he tries to make some food but he falls miserably because 99% of merlin house work with magic.
Electricity? Gas? Plumbing? Merlin never heard of her. The only non-magical technology in his house is an "cat" (*cough*dragon) toy that his new baby dragon wanted. That's it.
Arthur that got locked outside because the house was cross with him.
Arthur that tried once (1) to go into merlin office and— (Arthur : *glare*we don't talk about it) hem, never went alone in it ever again (hegotbluehairandturnedintoafrog.simultaneously)
Merlin house being strange enough to keep arthur entertained (by frustration) but also familiar enough in its lack of technology to not overwhelmed Arthur

Also in September 1941, Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn would begin their 27-year affair while filming Woman of the Year.

jinchul being so overworked he completely forgets when his birthday is and how old he is
like imagine work day proceeding as always (aka disaster after disaster) and then for some work related shit someone asks him his birthday and age and he just opens his mouth to reply but nothing comes out because he legit can’t remember. he just dumbly stays here for a minute having really strong thinking session only to say ‘I honestly don’t remember’ (but it also attributes to him never really celebrating his birthday because orphanage either messed up dates or straight up ignored it and at adulthood he’s mostly too busy or there’s extra work so if he’s lucky enough he can treat himself to a piece of cake after work at home and that’s it)
kha workers just running to gunhee like ‘boss we have an emergency, chief woo doesn’t remember his birthday—‘
literally everyone remembers his birthday and age except the man in question. it’s so bad that when they invite him for a party he declines because too much work and they’re like ‘sir it’s your birthday party’ and then there’s long awkward pause
‘wait which day is my birthday on?’

The plot of Cat People (1942) was insane like. so this lady immigrated to America and she feels like she doesn't fit in and she marries a man but their marriage falls apart bc she's like "I cannot kiss u because if I kiss you I will turn into a giant cat and bite kill you 3:" so the husband gets her a psychiatrist (recommended to him by the gf he's cheating with AND the psychiatrist diagnosis her with Mental Illness Disorder but doesn't admit her to a phychiaric hospital bc she can't legally divorce if she's Insane) (the psychiatrist is besties w the husband and his gf btw. very professional) and she tells the psychiatrist I can't kiss because I will turn itno a giant cat and bite kill and he's like you're tripping balls get real and he kisses her (ethical violation. btw) and you'd never guess what happened next. she turned into a giant cat and bite killed him. The end

!!!NEW REVIEW!!!
Tumblr media
in a fitting twist of fate, we cap off the 2023 calendar year with, coincidentally, the final cartoon of 1941. perhaps best known for its 1947 remake Little Orphan Airedale, formally spawning the ever amusing Charlie Dog, Porky’s Pooch garners its own plentiful novelty through its mixed media backgrounds—90% of which are still photographs! a tale as old as time with a Clampett-ian twist, Clampett’s final cartoon with his “Katz unit” of animators follows Charlie’s Rover’s attempts to get himself a master: the terminally stubborn Porky Pig who wants absolutely no part in this.

Woman of the Year (1942)
In their first (and low-key best) cinematic pairing, Hepburn (erudite) and Tracy (loutish) crackle with sexual tension (they’d never be this openly sexy onscreen again) as the latter struggles to accept the former’s disparate feminist ideals after a whirlwind romance and marriage.
Director: George Stevens
Cinematographer: Joseph Ruttenberg
Costume designer: Adrian
Starring: Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Roscoe Karns, Fay Bainter, Reginald Owen, and William Bendix.
