Unrealistic that all these magic reveal merthur au’s out there have Merlin remembering enough of his life to be able to recap the entirety of the show to Arthur without leaving anything out all in one go.

magic reveal fanfic’s:

Merlin: my magic’s for you arthur. Its only for you. *proceeds to give chronological order of events starting at ep1 all the way up to the reveal*

Head canon: Merlin knows that a strange (handsome) guy is trying to kidnap him for reasons and he simply goes with it. He writes a letter to his parents “hey mum, dad, I met this guy and he is REALLY handsome. I decided to go on adventures with him and maybe I’ll marry him. See you soon, love you, bye~❤️”

merlin and arthur should have planned on getting married for a really dumb and random reason and then realized that they were in love with each other on their wedding day

lemme explain

arthur is sick and tired of people throwing themselves at him while he’s trying to do his kingly duties

and also he’s sick and tired of his advisers talking about how he should marry

and he wishes he could get rid of all of this

and then he’s like “oh my fucking god im a genius”

and he goes to merlin and is like “will you marry me to get all these suitors off my back”

and merlins like ????

but then he’s like “wait itll be so much easier to do all the illegal shit i do if i don’t have to say ‘actually i have a permit to do whatever the fuck i want curtesy of king arthur’ and have them doubt me and try and get me jailed anyway and can just be like “um the king MY HUSBAND said i could”

and he’s like “yeah sure lets get married”

so they announce it to everyone and literally no one’s surprised surprised

most of them are like omg finally 

leon thinks that he’ll finally get a moment of peace now that these two arent pining

he’s wrong

no but everyones like omg called it

because merthurs so obvious

to everyone but merthur ofc

and merlin adn arthur plan their wedding and to make it “authentic” looking they both try their best 

and they go through the whole thing; they stay married

and then like 3 months in theyre like “wait our marriage as besties is turning really romantic” and confess

like it takes them a wedding, and spending months as a married couple to like realize

I think we all need to conjure the image of Merlin sitting on Arthur's lap whenever a princess/noblewomen comes along to woo Arthur. The mighty warrior, killer of bandit losers, sword twirly hand gesture guy, Crown Prince of Camelot just straight up panics and his natural reaction is to pull Merlin onto his lap and say he's gay for his manservant or throws Merlin over his shoulder and runs away, far away from the beautiful women.

My boi Merlin however wonders why Arthur doesn't just court someone already and stop trying to get him in trouble with Uther or his Uncle Gaius who keeps his fluffy caterpillar eyebrow in constant doom mode; Merlin is not in the mood to deal Arthur's romantic inability nonsense and people thinking he and Arthur are together when they're obviously not.

Seriously they're not together...they both protest loudly as Arthur holds a pantless manservant wearing a loose and very familiar red tunic whilst the prince himself is shirtless and the laces on his breeches are untied.

Definitely not fucking together.

I got recommended a fic a long time ago when I was still quite new to the fandom. now I want to find it cuz looking back to it, it had so much potential and I remember that the only reason I didn't read it was because it was a pretty long fic (?) I think at least but anyway

the plot was basically what if Merlin was adopted by Leon's parents and they grew up together with Leon (quite literally) being his older brother. I think it was also a retelling of the entire show but I'm not sure if it was finished

i bet that after their first fight arthur couldn't get merlin out of his head that night and he probably thought "i have to meet that dark haired guy again so tomorrow i will casually wander around the lower town's streets... just to teach him a lesson of course, not because i find him cute or anything haha" like i KNOW he left the castle the next day with the intention of finding merlin and flirt- i mean fighting him

merlin au where merlin is an archivist in present-day england and has spent over a millennium waiting for arthur to return

arthur finally wakes up and is able to reunite with merlin and they have the typical au experience where merlin helps arthur adjust to the modern world etc etc

but then merlin unexpectedly encounters morgana, who was reincarnated and grew up having odd dreams about magic and dragons and battles. it isn’t until she sees merlin again that she finally remembers their past

the three then proceed to bump into gwen and the knights within the next few months. none of them remember the past until they see merlin, morgana, or arthur again

now they’re reunited again and it’s much more than merlin hoped for, but then there’s the slight problem that the world might be ending due to unexpected catastrophes that maybe??? related to magic???

and then there’s the catastrophe that is the actual group, which is still filled with tension despite how many years it’s been. everyone is wary of morgana, but it’s to another extreme with gwaine (whom she tortured and killed in her past life) and merlin (whom she had years worth of beef with). there’s an awkward amount of tension between arthur and gwen, who are trying to navigate their relationship but not knowing what to do with it. and then there’s lancelot, who quietly observes arthur and gwen and still feels the same way for her just as he did back in camelot. percival and elyan are just basically watching everything go down

there’s a lot of saving the world and saving themselves involved, and merlin finally comes to terms with the fact that he’s been in love with arthur for over a thousand years. arthur intends to make things right for not only the group, but for the rest of the world, so that magic can be accepted again

oh, and he realizes that’s been in love with merlin this entire time

It would be delightful if a fed up Arthur went on a journey to find Merlin who, according to Gaius, is at the tavern again, only to start realizing that Merlin has literally never been to the tavern because no one knows who Merlin is (or at the very least they’re insistent that Merlin’s never been there.)

Gaius shop is not doing well because it’s a small shop and Gaius can’t compare with bigger flower shops and their new “technological” way of advertising.

And here comes young Merlin, who will help his uncle with an Instagram account (⁠ﾉ⁠◕⁠ヮ⁠◕⁠)⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠.⁠✧

Obviously Arthur fell for the cutie florist (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠)
