Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader

Summary: it’s one of your dates with Nat and she asked you about your childhood not realizing how similar you both actually are

Warning: angst, rather sad childhood, loneliness, emotionally absent family

A/N: just a short little vent fic cuz <//3 I will still post my Scarlett x Reader fic this week, so enjoy this little “treat”? HAHAHA hopefully you’ll enjoy this really short one, I’ll make it up to you guys in the next one! <33

“I’m sorry about the mess, I didn’t anticipate any visitors anytime soon” you shyly chuckle as you let Nat into your little apartment. “Make yourself at home, wine? water? juice even?”

You met Nat during a press conference for the Avengers’ image that was organized by Pepper. Luckily, your boss asked you to come in just to watch really as a reward for your current progress at work. He knew, after all, that you were a big fan so the stars aligned for the both of you.

After officially meeting at the green room and talking for a bit, Nat decided to ask you out to which you couldn’t help but say yes to. As a result, you both have been on a few dates lately, testing the waters of a possible relationship between you two. So far, a relationship would be within the horizon based on how smitten the two of you are to the other so it’s just the matter of time wether or not the ball drops for the better or for the worst.

Nat chuckles at your flustered state as she takes the chance to look around for a bit. “Wine would be great, and thanks for letting me stay for a bit. Didn’t want the date to end just yet”

“Ah yea no I feel you” you say from the kitchen as you grab a bottle of your favorite red wine and two wine glasses. “I’ve really enjoyed our dates Nat, truly”

“I’m glad you feel the same way” she quickly takes the wine bottle from you, pouring the wine into the glasses while you hold them out. After putting the bottle down, you hand her one of the glasses and sit down on the couch with her, facing each other on your sides. “To us”

“To us” you smile at the toast, clicking your glass against hers before taking a sip of your wine. The intimacy provided by the candles she lit up around your apartment giving a soft warm glow to your living room that could make anyone swoon.

After a few moments of comfortable silence between the both of you, Nat breaks it as she gently drapes her arm over your shoulders and pulling you closer to her making you giggle a little. “Can I ask you something?”

“Hmm sure if I could provide an answer” you say with a smile, taking a sip of your wine.

“I saw a photo of you and your family on your wall, can I know more about them?” You hum in thought at her question as you look behind the both of you at the mentioned picture frame.

“Oh that old thing” you mumble as you take another sip of your near emptying wine as Nat refills both of your drinks. “We’re nothing special honestly, just your average but small family”

“Are you busy? Can we play?” Your 7 year old self ask as you watch your siblings, who are hanging out in front of the television, continue to play their video games.

“As you can tell in the photo, I have two older siblings.. they’re both 10 and 15 years older than me” you reminisce as you gently swirl your wine. “They’re nice people, albeit have that older sibling bullying and all, but overall treated me good. Sadly, it didn’t really translate so well before I became 18”

“We’re playing a game right now, but you can watch on the couch if you want” the eldest says without looking away from the TV, laughing out loud as they win the round while the middle child shoves the eldest with a scowl on their face.

“You definitely cheated!” The youngest exclaims as they both start to rough house, laughing and having the time of their lives while you sit on the couch behind them with your stuffed bear in your arms. Not realizing the deep-seated feeling of loneliness starting to grow inside of you.

“They had each other growing up so they didn’t know how to fit me in their already established dynamic so I had to play by myself a lot” you explain as you finish the last bit of your wine, placing the glass down as Nat places hers as well. “Didn’t help that I was a lot more introverted as a child, so making friends as a whole wasn’t really my strong suit so in school and at home I didn’t have any playmates”

“Not even your parents?” She asks as she pulls you closer so you could cuddle with her on the couch.

“They try, but they were out of touch with playing with a child since its been a while since its been years then since they had my siblings” you smile softly as you start to tell another story.

“Daddy?” You ask softly as you gently open your father’s office door, peaking your head thru to see your father working on his computer. “Are you busy?”

“Y/N/N?” He asks as he looks over at you, swiveling his chair to the side so he could watch you come in with your stuffed bear in your arms. “What’s my little girl doing here?”

You open your arm for your father to place you on his lap. “I’m bored”

“You are?” He chuckles as he swivels his chair back so you could see what he was working on. “I’m a little busy but you can stay here while I work, is that fine?”

You hum in approval as your father goes back to work while you watch him with your little arms on his table and your chin resting on it.

“They never truly played with me, had to play by myself a lot since my siblings were in school by then and my father would work a lot so I only see everyone together on the weekends” Nat hums in thought as she gently traces shapes on your back as you place your head on her shoulder.

“Were you lonely?” She asks even though she has an idea what your answer would be.

“I guess you could say so yes, but it was something I was used to so I didn’t really process it as such till later on in life” you chuckle softly, pulling back slightly so you could look at Nat with a smile. “It was definitely hard, but they’re kind people, just emotionally detached so the concept of family love was kinda weird, maybe till now”

“Yea I get that” Nat mumbles softly as she remembers her own widow family. “But now? How are they?”

“The eldest has a family now, their poor daughter is being spoiled by me and the second eldest’s engaged with their fiancee so I think they’ll do well..” you trail off before quickly adding “hopefully” at the end of it making Nat chuckle.

“You know.. As cheesy as this sounds, but I don’t feel as lonely anymore” you state as you pull back from Nat’s arms completely so you could look at her properly.

“Really? How so?” Nat asks before realizing what just came out of her mouth, but a smile slowly grows on her face. The butterfly in her stomach flutters as you flash her a genuine smile on your face while you utter the next few words.

“Life before you has been gray, dark even, but I started to look forward to seeing you every week and I don’t feel as alone anymore.. so thank you Nat, for being you”

are you like your muse/s : for me to write a muse I need to be at least a little like them. I’m only doing one or two fics per ship (which in hindsight is KILLING me so I’m just putting the first fics I find and am like I really liked that one LOL) because I wanted to do a shorter fic rec list (tho watch this become super long LOL). I also may or may not be procrastinating finishing a couple other long posts, so there’s that hehe. For the (kinda but not really) public consensus for best fics per ship (by kudo count) check out some of my other posts. Also I’m putting some ships I don’t actually read much of (OOPS LOL) so if you think that there’s a fic that fits my type (if I even have a consistent type) better, pls tell me LOL. I really love mafia fics, and the way the story line developed was SO good, like IN LOVE with this story. This is a fic where you should read WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARY before diving in, but if the length scares you, don’t be. It’s so easy to fall in and get lost in the writing!

the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 66.3k // again, basic? Probably LOL but it’s good so I have no shame ;) Again, pls don’t let the word count scare you (cause it scared me LOL), you get really into it after like 2 paragraphs, so just make sure you have enough time to finish hehe.

Thicker Than Blood by kylar (M) 91.4k // are you surprised that there is another mafia one? You really shouldn’t be LOL. bang! now we're even by Authoress (M) 11.9k // so I’ll be honest, I don’t read a lot of BokuAka (...oops?) and so I wouldn’t consider myself as the best person to be recommending fics for this ship (in general too LOL).... ANyway, I love myself some good spy AUs (was gonna put that IwaOi spy AU but the LIMIT), and Akaashi in a dress? Like the tags might state, what more do you need? The characters are done beautifully, and the story development is SO good, so I give you all my humble BokuAka rec.

Crisis Converted by valiantarmor (M) 60k // man do I really love fighting in my fics LOL. This was super good and the plot itself kept me really engaged (what a twist omg). It does talk a bit about mental health issues, but it’s done so well, and they really did this AU justice!

How to Manage by SuggestiveScribe (E) 39.3k // ok so yea yea we established, I’m basic, BUT can you blame me? This might’ve been one of the first DaiSuga’s I’ve read and I have no regrets. Burden of Blame by DeathBelle (E) 91.2k // ummmm, haha what, another mafia AU? Me, predictable? Noooo, never..... Anyway, this one was so freakin’ good like, love it so much! It’s one of my favorite mafia AU fics, and I love the story line progression. Poor Atsumu being dragged into this mess, but it’s okay because THEY are IN LOVE. Honestly, this fic is Atsumu best boy like he is the best boy. BEST BOY.

Notte Stellata by awkwardedgeworth (T) 20.9k // I ignored all of the other fics I LOVE in this ship (like the pain I’m in rn), but I love this fic with my whole heart. Like I have reread this fic multiple multiple times because I love it so much (tho I might’ve skipped the angst a couple of times cause I didn’t want the pain okay?). I keep coming back, and the second fic in this series is SO funny and cute and I love it here. Please read it, it’s so FREAKING good, angst and ALL.

Team Mom by All_My_Characters_Are_Dead (T) 2.7k // so as I was going through this tag (because that’s what I do LOL), I remembered this fic and I love it. Like yes Yahaba is the fear factor and yes Kyoutani is the DAD. I really like the team dynamics in this one, and the first years make me laugh pls.

Camellias by kiyala (T) 1.9k // IK you’re all like, you’re missing such great fics, like no I’m not I just made myself hate myself by limiting fics to two per,,, I love this fic and when I starting looking for this ship, it was the first one I thought of hehe. I really love magic and their interactions are so cute and the PLANTS ARE DOING THE MOST. Pls read both in the series, cause domestic KyouHaba is best KyouHaba ngl LOL. I love the plants, and if you read the second one, someone tell the trees to stop bullying Yahaba.

MatsuHana:

This gets annoying fast, Makki by Ink_stained_quills (G) 2.3k // IM IN LOVE WITH THIS FIC PLS I COULD NOT STOP CRYING TEARS OF LAUGHTER. This AU needs more fics PLEASE. It was SO freakin’ funny and the other teams KILLED ME. Like how they all approached the problem differently and how some of them (KUROO) asked for help LOL. Please this is so freaking funny go read it.

boiled frogs by reginagalaxia (E) 91.5k // I told myself I was gonna put my most angsty fics on another post (which I will for my other favorite MatsuHana angst fic which I love), but this fic. Omg I saw it and I was like I have to. Literally I have to. I hate angst, but read it. It, the, plot, omg, I jjfnsfknalkjdnf ljksan. Like I’m not sure you understand. This fic. asjfjfsadnldjb. I never thought I could hate a character SO MUCH,,,, like SO MUCH. READ TAGS, WARNINGS, AND SUMMARIES because some serious stuff really goes down. Bless Iwa-chan.

I don’t like rerecommending fics I’ve already said to read, which is why I’m not yelling at you to go read a certain other fic (which is my life and blood). Anyway, this fic series is all fluff barely angst (maybe that’s why I like it) but it’s so freakin good pls read it all ahhhhhh.

Empty Promises, a DP fic where Danny dies in chapter 1, and the rest of it is people dealing with the aftermath. it is, i have been assured by many people, awful

this is the way the world ends, a Gundam 00 AU where [redacted] survives their death in canon, only to die horribly a few months later. [other redacted] blames themselves and there is, um, all sorts of trauma to unpack

Phantasm, a Supernatural fic that I don't even remember the details of anymore except it is Dark As Fuck and Sam dies at the end

Ash Like Snow, an old Harry Potter/Fullmetal Alchemist fic set in an HP Dark Timeline, where Ed, Ling, and half of Al's blood seal show up in the Great Hall during their fight with Gluttony.

Honorable mentions go to Promised Eternity (FF13) and Asymmetria (FMA). They're both grimdark fics I started and then decided were Too Much, Even For Me, so I abandoned them halfway through.

What are you currently working on? Currently, the main one is the next installment in Bring Down the Sky. It's taking so long since I don't know how the next several blocks are gonna be split fic- or chapter-wise, so I'm pre writing a lot of it to figure it out as I go Px I've also got a set of character studies of the season 1 Ptolemy crew from 00, but that's uh 2.5 / 11 done so that's gonna be a while There's more in my WIP folder but those are the ones that are probably at the front of the line for posting!

What are your writing strengths? I've been told by several reliable sources that I'm very good at The Angst lol. I also pride myself on characterization and character interaction in general! My fics are definitely character-driven

What are your writing weaknesses? Action scenes are a WIP for me otl. I'm also very bad at like, describing visuals for people? Since I'm 100% one of the people who doesn't visualize things in their head at all, so I forget a LOT of the time that people appreciate that lmao

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I mean, depending on the fandom, it's kind of inevitable? For multilingual characters, I only write out the dialogue if the POV character can understand what's being said Main example right now is Lyndsay Dylandy (Lockon's mom in 00), who I write as severely deaf and speaks in Irish Sign Language. The people around her are fluent, but randos around town (and the kids' friends, the first several times they come around) aren't When it's in those people's POV, I just write that Lyndsay is signing, and if the friend need to know what she said, one of the kids translates for them. For Lyndsay's POV, if the person's vocalizing, she does better if they're facing her, and talking louder, and is patient if she needs something repeated. She can read lips okay but it's not fool proof, so in non-ideal situations i tend to write vocalized dialogue from her POV with gaps in the parts of speaking that she would miss (ends of sentences, hard-to-parse words for lip reading) Tbh it's been a really interesting thing and I'm working hard to get it right - I've got mild hearing loss myself and am learning ASL, and I'm modeling Lyndsay's progressive loss after a close friend with the same condition. She wears hearing aids, but still has a lot of issues with hearing/understanding if she's not on her A game.

now i assume that you’re talking about dick grayson/birdflash fic recs because that was in your ask. if not idk just shoot me another ask with whatever dynamic/pairing/ship you wanted and i guarantee you i’ll have some recs for it. now let’s get to the good stuff because birdflash is one of my top otps of all time and that is saying something considering how many fandoms i’m in. 

now lets start with authors. anything that padfootphrophet has ever written is so so glorious (i tried to find their tumblr and i failed i’m sorry). be sure to check them out! there’s @novaviis, the birdflash deity, we all know them. if you haven’t read watercolour then what are you doing with your life go read it right now. 

time for actual fic recs! i have practically over a hundred bookmarked, so here are some of my favourites, or ones that i think need more love. (be sure to check the tags on all of them, there are some squicks and/or triggering content in them.)

1. Summer Lovin’ by @theo-ography  4,500 words. birdflash set in the comics verse or with the titans is always my favourite, and this one is practically the best of the best! a little angsty, a little heartwearming, a little bittersweet, all-around perfect.

2. Before the End by RobinRedR 6,700 words. angst angst angst and more angst. set in the yj universe, follows dick and wally as they grow up (but in reverse order) and how the two of them never got to say what they really meant until it was too late.

3. Safe and Sound by @kingburu 12,000 words. more angst. you guys can tell i have a penchant for making myself cry. wally travels forward in time after his death, you get to see how he and everyone else reacts. i loved this one so much i made a moodboard for it.

4. Strawberry Punch by @synxailla (sorry if i linked the wrong tumblr, it wasn’t in the fic so i did a little digging.) 38,000 words. one of the best birflash fics out there. set in the yj universe, and god, dick and wally are so cute in this one. also, wally is unabashedly, totally, completely in awe of everything robin does. its adorable.

5. Mainline by @kazyre 232,000 words. this is the ultimate hurt!wally fic, and it’s a ride. featuring most of the flash fam from the comics, a whole bunch of heroes dc always forget about, and wally being an absolute badass. also, this is probably the worst rudy fic out there. wait,,,,that came out wrong. what i mean is that rudy crosses the line from bad parent, skips over asshole, and goes straight into main villian. this fic is long, plotty, wally-centric, and super fun to read. 

6. Every Fiber of My Being by @lanestreets​ 21,000 words. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. my absolute favourite dick grayson and birdflash fics in existence. unlike the last one, this fic is dick-centric, but the way birdflash is done is beautiful. you absolutely will not regret this one, i promise you that

7. In Ice and Fire by RedRobinR 7,000 words. this one’s a little dark and a little creepy and lot wonderful. birdflash vampire au, and it’s just so well written. kind of and out-there au for this particular rec list, but i urge you to give it a read. i made a moodboard for this one too.

8. the heavy weight of living by @satellites​ (once again, super sorry if i got the wrong user, i just sort of took a shot in the dark) 3,500 words. one of the coolest, sweetest aus out there. civvies au where dick and wally survive the zombie apocalypse. i’ve been meaning to make a moodboard for this one, if someone reads this fic and likes it enough to request one i’ll do it.

9. Starbucks Epiphanies by maidenofsouls 2,000 words. fluff fluff fluff adorableness my heart is bursting. this is a perfect representation of wally’s oh shit i’m in love with him moment and it was just SO CUTE. just,,,,,,go read it. i need to make a moodboard for this one too. UGH i have too many ideas.

10. Sadist by birdflashshipper 11,500 words. i just,,,,,,,,,,you know what. i’m not even sorry. imma end this fic rec with a bang, and if that bang happens to be heavy smut with a whole bunch of bdsm sprinkled in, then so be it. except this is,,,,like,,,, well written smut. with feels. and dick’s escrima sticks are a wonderful guest star. so yea if that’s your thing then definitely give this a read.

oh god, i used to. i did when i was starting out, but then i just. i get self-conscious about what to actually say & leave shit to sit for too long. and suddenly ive got like 100 comments i havent replied to and i want to respond to them so bad but ive left them so long i feel weird about it now and it's a problem 😥

i......don't really do angsty endings. like, most of my fics end with smooches and/or love confessions lmao, i don't like leaving things off sad, even if it starts depressing as hell.

uhhhhh.....i mean i've been told that my characterization is good? like, ppl being able to picture the actual characters when they're reading n stuff, so that's nice. and i could write introspection forever, u don't even know man, i get in the zone. i love getting in a character's head and picking apart their emotional state

What are your writing weaknesses?

writing dialogue really trips me up because i get picky about word choice lmao. i can be writing uninterrupted for twenty minutes cuz it's all a character's inner monologue but the second they gotta speak out loud im sittin there like ok what words sound natural and how much would they be willing to say etc. etc. suddenly it's an hour later and i've written three lines of dialogue. plus i tend to edit as i go so i'm always stopping and going back and rewriting stuff instead of just finishing the damn story

“Who Got Your Back?”

I always had always started stanning idols way before or since they debut, such examples are from EXO, IKon, Seventeen, and NCT are also no exception. I knew NCT since they weren’t even NCT aka smrookies, and Hansol was my bias *I love him, UGH*. I never got into them too hardcore when they debuted, but I remember that Taeyong is my v first bias. I was so into EXO and IKon that time too invest much time on NCT. But then Cherry Bomb rolls in, Johnny became my man. It did not end there, Lucas snatched my wig in Boss and I was already questioning everything, including my loyalty. 

You might know the whole type I have in my bias, and yes I stan mostly rappers. BUT! Yes, But! Touch came and that was the first time my eyes were opened by Doyoung. And this bunny did nothing, HE HASN’T EVEN OPEN HIS MOUTH TO SING - HE SMILED... he smiled and now I am forever his, loyal.

My blog on the other end, I met a lot of amazing people when I started the blog and even when I was still thinking of making youngnari happened.

Summary: You and Sebastian have been dating for months now. You met at a gala that your childhood friend, Chris Evans, invited you to. After that, you both hit it off and fell madly in love. It is time for Seb to start filming for Civil War, and you aren't sure if you are ready to not see him for a very long time. Will your relationship last?

“Seb, shut your alarm off!” You groaned, rubbing your tired eyes. The man next to you lifted his arm off of you and grabbed his phone. “Ugh, sorry babe.” He turned the alarm off and resumed to cuddle you. You looked up at him and rubbed your hand across his growing stubble. “Why, did you set an alarm? It’s Saturday.” 

He chuckled. “I forgot to turn it off from yesterday.” You nuzzled back onto his chest and sighed. “Typical, Seb.” You giggled and fell back into a deep sleep.

3 hours later, you woke up in the same position. You rubbed your eyes and looked at Seb, who was still fast asleep. Being careful, you lifted his large arm off of you and started to crawl off of the bed. You felt a hand grab your arm. “Where do you think you’re going?” 

You chuckled and fell back into bed. Seb lifted you back onto his chest and began to rub soothing circles on your lower back. “I start filming tomorrow.” You froze and placed a hand on Seb’s chest. “What? I thought it was next week.” He rubbed his eyes and looked at you. “Sorry babe. Tomorrow.” You sat up and brushed your hair out of your face. “Seb, what the hell? You told me next week. I took all of next week off just to be with you.” 

He sat up and grabbed your hands. “Darlin’ I told you this last week.” You felt small tears swell up in your hands. “Well, you should’ve reminded me. I can’t believe you’re leaving. What am I suppose to do?”

He looked at you in a confused manner. “Whoa, what is with the attitude change?” You huffed and placed your head in your hands. “I never see you, Seb. It’s like I’m not even your girlfriend.” He squeezed your hand and pulled you into his arms. “Shh, don’t say that. I love you so much and you know that.” Tears began to roll down your cheeks. “Yea, I do. It’s hard, ya know. Having a celebrity for a boyfriend.” He chuckled. “Trust me, it’s hard being a celebrity.” He chuckled again, waiting for you to laugh with him.

You remained motionless and released his hand from yours. “I’m going to go make breakfast. You can join me if you’re not too busy.” You got up from the bed and walked straight out of the bedroom. Seb was confused as to why you were acting this way. It never bothered you this much. He needed to do something about it.

Later that day, Seb began packing his suitcases. He would need a few since he would filming for 6 months. “Hey babe! Have you seen my toothbrush?” He called out to you. You walked in with his toothbrush and handed it to him harshly. “Uh, thanks. Y/N, I think we need to talk.” You paused in your footsteps and turned to him. “Yea Seb, I think you’re right. Maybe we should.”

He closed his suitcase and sat on the edge of the bed. “Y/N, I need to know what is going on. You’re acting weird about me leaving.” You shrugged and walked to him. “You’re just always too busy for me. Whenever you finally have some free time, 2 weeks later you have to go film something.  Why can’t we have a normal relationship?” He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “Babe, look. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, but filming is my job. When duty calls I need to go.” 

You scoffed. “That’s exactly what I thought. Your job is more important than me.“ He stood up abruptly from the bed and pointed at you. “You take that back! You know damn well that if I didn’t have to film, I’d spend every second with you, loving you, and holding you. Why are you being too stubborn to see how hard it is from my standpoint?” 

You rolled your eyes. “Because if you cared enough for me, you wouldn’t go and film.” Seb laughed sarcastically. “Uh, can’t have a Civil War without Bucky Barnes.” You sighed and rubbed your temples. “I’m not talking about Bucky right now, I’m talking about my boyfriend. This is reality, Seb, not your Marvel world.”

He walked over to you and placed his hands on either side of your hips. “Babe, I know. I just- I don’t know what to do that will make you happy.” You pushed his hands away. “You figure it out. See you in 6 months, Sebastian.” Walking away from him, the tears began to pour from your eyes. This was going to be a hard 6 months.

4 months later

“Ok, that’s a wrap! Take 20, you guys!“ The director shouted. Seb wiped the sweat off of his forehead and walked over to his camper. He walked past Chris, who began to button his Captain America suit. “Hey, Chris! Could I talk to you for a sec?” Chris looked to Seb and smiled. “Sure man, what’s up?” 

Seb sat down on the steps in front of his camper. “Y/N hasn’t been returning my texts or calls. Why does she keep avoiding me? It’s not like I did anything wrong.” Chris sighed and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder. “Sebastian, she loves you very much. It’s not like she is doing this on purpose. Being a celebrity’s girlfriend is not the easiest job out there. Hell, being Sebastian Stan’s girlfriend isn’t easy.”

Seb chuckled and fidgeted with his hands. “Chris, I am so afraid that we’re gonna break up. I mean the day I left, she didn’t even get up to say goodbye.” Chris’s eyebrows raised in shock. “Wow, she is really taking this hard huh? I don’t know man. Something might be happening to her.” Seb nodded in agreement. “I just need some alone time, with her I think.“ 

Chris agreed and stood up. “Well, let the Director know. Tell him you have family problems you need to deal with. He’ll let you go home, Seb.” Seb stood up and hugged Chris. “Thanks man. I owe you one.” Chris chuckled. “You don’t owe me anything Stan. Y/N, is like my sister. I’m just looking out for her.”

Meanwhile, you were washing dishes at home, counting the days til your hunky boyfriend would be home. You weren’t doing too well. You felt sick, your head hurt, work wasn’t going too well, and you just wanted to curl up and cry your eyes out.

Seb would be the only thing that would make you feel better. Despite you being mad that he left, you really missed him and couldn��t wait for the next 2 months to go by. A knock on the door caught you off guard.

You weren’t expecting anyone, so you walked carefully to the door. Opening the door, you almost dropped to your knees. A very tired looking Seb smiled softly back at you. “Sebba!” You cried and jumped into his arms. “Hey baby, I came home.” You giggled and rubbed your thumb across his cheek. “You did. Oh my gosh your hair!” You ran your fingers through his shoulder length hair and giggled.

“Yea, I know. Had to grow it out. Surprise!” You smiled and tilted your head. “I love it.” He sighed and cupped your face. “Honey, I am so sorry for leaving you. I shouldn’t have. But why was it so different this time that I left?” You fidgeted with the hem of your shirt and lifted it slowly. “There’s something you should know.”

He looked from your eyes to your belly, and dropped his jaw. “I’m pregnant.”
