A little change in soundscape : here's a playlist by me with some 70s folk music that I love and really like listening to when I study or am in my feels. I've shown love for April And May on this blog already, but I have a soft spot for all artists on here.

oh and btw isn't it funny - when it comes to the 80s and 90s I like listening to female artists more than male artists, but in the 70s, I LOVE that male folk vibe that whatever the girls were doing at that time. The lore behind artists of that genre - also considering what political importance folk music had in the 70s - is also real real deep, which I have to deep dive in eventually.

Mini-review:

I feel like I'm one of the few people who loved the first season of Hellbound. It used an original and terrifying concept to showcase a fascinating exploration of themes like religious fanaticism, sectarianism and media manipulation. And this second (and final?) season delivers the goods once again. Yeon Sang Ho continues to be a master director of action scenes, plus the performances he gets from this cast are simply superb. On top of that, the CGI is much better than it was in the first one; I'm glad they made an effort to improve on that. I'm sure many people will stay mad at the show for refusing to give clear answers until the very end, but I think that makes the viewer feel the same chaos as the characters. If this is really the end, I have to say I really enjoyed what this dark fantasy had to offer.

People have a right to a second chance, a rebirth of sorts. . .

This series is about those two things. Some get a second chance and other the final closure. It is heart felt and warm. The power of empathy is a magical thing. . .

I liked the series. It made me smile, it made me cry. Some things felt unrealistic but we forgive them as an audience captivated by the development of the characters that struggle to break from the darkness in their hearts and lives. . . Goodness outlives the darkness when people are surrounded by a caring support group, those that love you and you love back.

I really liked the story.

GENRES: Drama, Supernatural

SUMMARY: What does it mean to be a sinner? What does it mean to be forgiven? Is it possible to survive Hell?

THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Cults, hanboks, live-streaming, scheming governments, adorable orphans, solar trains, redemption, nightclubs, hiking, prophecies, and overdue reunions.

HOT TAKE: I tell ya, I'm so grateful that both seasons of this show are so short--these episodes are intense, emotional, and full of action that I'm not sure I would be able to handle the normal 16 ep run.

The stakes are so much higher, our organizations have had time to improve their craftiness and deceit, and the citizens of the world are that much more wary that their time for demonstration is nigh.

Although we are not graced with the acting prowess of Yoo Ah In, I will give credit where credit is due--Kim Sung Cheol did an outstanding job and really made his character his own.

In the first few episodes of "Sandglass", when Hye Rin is protesting with her fellow students, this song appears often as a protest song: "Morning Dew/아침이슬". It was first released in the 70s under the dictatorship, and was vetted as a "patriotic song" by the dictatorship, but then in the late 70s someone in the regime decided that the lyric "태양은 묘지위에 붉게 떠오르고 " is pro-communist due to the imagery of the rising red sun(????) and that the song should be banned. That had a opposite effect - the students in the democratisation movement cought hold of the song and used it in protests, with the song standing for a new dawn, a new day, a new beginning and a new political outlook for Korea.

The composer of this song, Kim Min Gi, just passed away a few weeks ago and it really reminded me of how the generations slowly but surely die out. Yang Hee Eun is still doing good and great, so here is the song, translated to the best of my abilities :

Turn your brain off and go with the flow. This drama is highly highly overly dramatic, think telenova, makjang, soap opera. Nothing follows through really with the storyline, so many plot holes, and the characters are dumb down to village idiots, except one character who apparently can get away with murder….seriously. OverallI couldn’t stop watching the series, it’s addictive as heck especially if you’re into this type of drama. Warning though, it’s over 100 episodes long.
