#yandere webtoon review
Note
do you have a webtoon? And if so, do you know or read about "the princess's jewels"? if not, that's fine. But I would like a better scenario or maybe "worse" (yandere type) for the characters since they have potential but the story is not doing very well. As I already said, if you don't know him, there's no problem 😉
So after this, I speed-read as much of the series as I could. For anyone who’s not aware, the webtoon Princess’ Jewels written by JYUN and illustrated by Hong Cha, is about beautiful princess Arianna and her collection of men that help her fight for her claim as empress. Her ‘jewels’ consist of Nell, Efrit, Haun Beik, Raymond, and Jade. Now I might catch some heat for this and as someone who doesn’t read webcomics very often, my opinion might not be as developed as others but here goes.
I actually really like it. I’ve read that the trope of that maincharacter that just kind of has everything work for them was really bothering people, which I get. But I’m also a big fan of these types of stories as they are fun to cheer on and to watch evil characters or enemies be utterly defeated. She does collect these men like pokemon but in a way that makes it all the more thrilling as she effectively uses them to reach her goals. Big guns don’t mean anything if you don’t know how to use them and that’s what makes Arianna so attractive to me. This leads me to my next point.
Tumblr media
How many people thought her character was that of a Mary Sue and to some degree I can see that. But to me I love her motivations and true feelings about things more than I want to see benevolent hero-type mc. Her motivation is lust. Their motivations are lust. People around them either reflect this same thing or a lust for power. Everyone’s motivations all hold some similarity to one another and for that I think the lesser evil would be Arianna. She fawns over these boys in the same way readers do when they come on screen. It makes me like Arianna more as she works to hold herself together. Not to mention when it comes to words in nobility she can hold her own pretty well; she’s cool like that. And I like the ambiguity that comes with some of her decisions. Is it lust? Or her motivations to take down her father’s concubine? Is it her being genuinely nice? Or is this a tactical advantage?
I won’t bore you any longer with my defenses and opinions for the webtoon. I’ll just dive right into the yandere types and possibly talk about what I might do in the future:
Tumblr media
Nell Phantom: This handsome boy is the wolf man of your dreams! He’s powerful, he's smart and he is really good at keeping the harem in line. But beneath his loyalty and regiment-oriented personality he gets possessive and he’s incredibly protective. He’s…one of my favorites~<3He’s the best behaved out of all of them. I wouldn’t change him at all for he’s the unsaid glue of the harem; he keeps even the rowdiest ones in line and I appreciate him for it. He has expressed a desire to…breed but he’s obedient and possibly the most useful in Arianna’s quest.
Tumblr media
Prince Efrit: This guy is okay. I’m mad at him because of what he did to Haun…but anyway he’s hotheaded, possessive, jealous, hard-headed, and he’s especially violent. But he’s got big booba so it's okay. He’s got a whole troupe that helps him with intimidation and patrol work which is always nice but all those traits previously mentioned he’s quite the handful. While Nell is your obedient, goal-oriented german shepard this man is your darling affectionate pitbull that will pummel through everyone with that pent up energy. You have to keep him sated if you don’t want him to chip at the other jewels. He doesn’t have the foresight to realize how his actions really hurt Arianna more than anything and for that I would say he’s the most dangerous.
Tumblr media
Haun Beik: My other favorite, this white beauty is so precious but I don’t think he’s fully…bloomed yet. Let me explain. Where he’s from there is a lot of his past that kept him there and even with Arianna it comes back to haunt him. The only really yandere thing he’s done is just kind of hold his own against the other gems (Efrit) and that was mostly unintentional. I think when it comes time he’s the perfect manipulator–able to coax things from his fans and garner Arianna’s divided attention by batting his eyes the right way. As he’s introduced we know he’s not weak and it’d be nice to see that come to play. He may not be able to use it on his definite assaulter (really hate that guy) but he can use it on Efrit at the very least, showing a darker more sinister side that has him fully intent on keeping the princess’s focus on him. There are so many ways his yandereness can go!
Tumblr media
Raymond Amber “Lemon”: Mass manipulator and utter masochist. He gets off on the embarrassment and the chase of his relationship with Arianna. But like everyone else he has his own ambitions that he’s very skilled at achieving. He’s also violent as well but not like Efrit he has that foresight about maintaining reputations and the consequences of his actions. He’s perfect in social situations and in combat as long as she teases him some he’s not about to act out. He also seems to thrive in the community of the harem. While he definitely competes with them as well he sees their dynamics clearly and he knows what to say to play in that. He also has expressed quite the interest in Jade and granted some might say that he’s only doing that because Jade reacts the way he does but if you look hard enough perhaps Amber is also interested in Jade.
Tumblr media
Jade Meldian: Now this guy was attained in the jewelry box by more forceful means and did not come as willingly as the others thus he blames Arianna and resents her for it. Now he blames her for some things that happen while at her side, all while pushing away at the occasional observation about her personality that he likes. The way he refuses her is either, in my theory, conducted by a curse or an unfortunate resolution to kill Arianna one day. He’s got potential as a secret yandere that in fact is willing to escape the jewelry box so that he may own Arianna. I know it's a stretch but I kind of like him and it’d be nice to have a yandere that doesn’t exactly love the idea of being another in her harem. Instead developing some twisted goal to make Arianna his own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are so many others, I can delve into the others if you ask for it but that's about it. Now there’s a high chance I will write with a premise like this or within this story and what I’m thinking is that the reader is a noble friend, a bit of an oddball outcast that keeps their face hidden in a veil. Nonetheless, Arianna is deeply in love and has full intentions of having you when she becomes empress. So she’ll no doubt spill her desires to her harem who are all quite reluctant about you and each has their own concerns but still commence with the plan. Basically, you aren’t fully hers just yet but she’s able to reveal your face which is actually cursed to make people fall in love. Suddenly the harem and Arianna’s tune changes as it's all made clear about what they need to do–Make Arianna Empress and protect keep watch have (Y/n) of the house of (L/n).
But who knows~just a thought
In the doghouse review [no spoilers]
8.5/10
Nsfw, msub, bdsm, victorian fantasy world, prince x lower class, power imbalance, power finds balance in bed lmao, kinky as hell, wholesome, male yandere, obsessed, stalker, masochist x angry, more or less consensual, to be continued
Tw: nsfw, bdsm, masochism
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full review [no spoilers] —>
Wow. Just WOW. I hardly ever see a male yandere sub, and one made so well????? Fr the power dynamic is done exceptionally well here, i like how he has a higher position but is such a pathetic sub ;3
This manhwa may not be too everyone’s taste (a more kinky audience) but if u follow me youre probably in the right target anyway hehe
I didnt like how other characters were written (except for the mc and ml) because i feel like we’re meant to be getting an idea that everyone beside mc is dumb and has no sense whatsoever in them. Its fun as a comedic part, but i always appreciate a bit more realistic approach:))
We get a fair share of smut, although i wish there would be more. When im writing this there are 29 chapters which is heartbreaking to me because I’m soooo curious what will happen (porn for plot).
Also, mc’s tits are huge as a sidenote hehe
From a Knight to Lady (Webcomic)
Created by: Ink. , Hyerim Sung
Genre: Fantasy
Cherry recommended this one to me and while technically it hasn't hit the actual yandere moment as of writing this, it should be coming pretty soon, so I figured I might write a review on it. I love sword ladies, so it's interesting seeing one be reincarnated into a body of a lady and the art looks nice too. As of writing this, there are 50 chapters on webtoons.
The story is about Estelle, a knight who died by the hands of her trusted right hand man and reincarnated into the body of an aristocrat girl named Lucifia. Upon reincarnation, she realizes that the side she used to fight on has lost and that she is wed to a man named Zedekiah Heint, an adversary. Her body is now weaker and no longer in the shape that it used to be. She tries to find some of the knights she used to fight along side (by trading places with her maid and buying a knife), but ends up fighting a serial killer that was on the loose in the capital. She's able to defend herself and the killer gets caught. She goes to a ball later with Heint, where rumors of her jumping off of the building get spread around greatly. While she's able to defend off the rumors, she recalls the event of Lucifia jumping off of the building, supposedly to claim her love for the crown prince despite him seeming to not care about her, and as a result she ends up kicking the crown prince in the dick when he tries to go down on her. She realizes that the man who killed her, Khalid is still alive and swears to seek revenge. She eventually gains a memory from her past of how her mother died and how her father almost committed suicide because of it. To prevent rumors from spreading about her attempted suicide, she meets up with a trading deal to set things straight. However, things turn to the worst when the traders attempt to kidnap her, forcing her to run into the forest where a monster resides. Here, Khalid is able to save her, and nearly dies. Estelle nearly leaves him to die, but knows that if he dies here he will be regarded as a hero, so she saves him. Luckily, Heint is able to save both of them and nurse them both back to health (much to Estelle's dismay). Lady Loer (the one Estelle thinks is the one spreading rumors) invites Estelle to a tea party, however, things turn to the worst when Khalid interrupts and talks down about Estelle on the battlefield, specifically about how she was a female knight and couldn't even defend her country. Heint ends up defending her and the teaparty ends. The last couple of chapters talks about Lady Loer and how despite how it seems, she is trying to help Estelle, as she really admired Lucifia and wants to help her.
The concept of reincarnation is done a lot, but I don't normally see reincarnations where the MC reincarnates into another person in their own world. I like the idea of Estelle having to reincarnate into a lady (and by lady I mean high noble, I guess) since it was something that she never experience and even had some prejudices about. This story deals with a lot of prejudices about roles in these kinds of societies, where even Estelle as a female knight was something that was rare and often talked down about. She also comments how different it is to be a knight versus being a noble lady since noble ladies have different "weapons" and difficulties that she originally thought were fruitless and boring, which is a different point of view of something that I see all the time in Isekais and Fantasy stories. It's nice that after Estelle reincarnates into Lucifela's body that she still retains some of her knowledge and skills as a knight and can't become one because of her weaker body. It also goes into what happened to Lucifela in her past and how Estelle has to deal with it, especially in social settings and where rumors start. She definitely has a strong resolve in hating Khalid, but I do think it's kind of weird that she doesn't really take the opportunity to kill him after he gets hurt by the monster and then proceeds to get mad at Heint for getting mad at him. Yeah, I understand that she didn't leave him because she didn't want her death to be heroic, but I don't really understand why she got mad at Heint afterwards, since although he did save her, he did still... you know, kill you in your past life. She seems to adore her father who really cares and dotes about her, but I did hear a rumor that her dad isn't actually that caring and only dotes on her because of their mother (or something), which is unfortunate because he did seem like a pretty loving dad. Other than that she does a bunch of other bold moves like stabbing the serial killer by switching clothes with her maid and buying a knife, as well as talking down on Khalid and selling off her dresses to fund the knights.
The yandere, Khalid, is an interesting character to say the least. He is the one who kills Estelle in her past life to betray her country and seems to have a pretty twisted personality at that- something that Heint seems to dislike quite a bit. Considering his betrayal to his own country and the one who kills Estelle, it makes sense that the motives of the story is to kill him in return. Despite his supposed love towards Estelle, he seems to talk down on her quite a lot, especially during the tea party where she states that Estelle as a female knight couldn't even protect her own country much less be a lady as she was suppose to. Later in the story, it should be revealed that Khalid saw Estelle as the purest person (yeah, he's the "I must protect this purity" type yandere), which is why after he kills and beheads her, he apparently keeps her body in her house and falls in love with her again once he figures out that Lucifela is actually Estelle. You can see it foreshadowed a bit when he states that Estelle is "looking down from the stars" when talking to Heint, which is a strange way of describing her, especially since he was the one who killed her. It's too bad though since he seemed to have a close relationship with Estelle, so much so that Estelle still can't bring herself to fully hate him despite trying to have her revenge. He's the main villain of the story so I'm curious how if or how he will be dispatched - hopefully by the hands of Estelle.
I actually did like this one despite some of it's flaws, but what can I say- I really like sword ladies. It's a pretty good read, so if you are interested, please give it a shot!
No-Spoilers Review #10: I Love Amy (Naneun Eimileul Salanghae)
Content Warnings: kidnapping? (mostly comedic), attempted murder by a parent, depiction of some mental/personality disorder disrespect(?) (the series disagrees with it)
Definitely an unexpected hit! I Love Amy by Unun is a finished manhwa set in somewhere in Maine in the USA. The main character is a quiet and meek girl who unexpectedly becomes friends (or, sort-of-friends?) with a rich girl the rest of the school generally considers to be totally off her rocker, totally a murderer, and just super disliked in general.
Is it good? Yes! Despite how cute the art style is, it actually has a lot of dark topics mentioned in it, so don't judge just from the cover. In particular, the characters are written in a really sympathetic way despite how flawed they are.
Tumblr media
Amy Park Lee (black hair) is a Korean-American girl attending high school. She's a klutz and an introvert, and has no friends (she grew apart from her childhood friend, Camilla). She's generally not really noticed by anyone. On the other hand, Beatrice Luna Reden (blonde hair, generally called Bibi) is infamous within the school. Despite constantly causing problems, her family donates to the school and it causes her to avoid all disciplinary action. She is obsessed with a boy named Peter, who she spots talking to Amy one day. Bibi decides to "warn" her (ominously preparing a chair in her basement...) and invites her over, but unexpectedly has a good time and forgets about the plan until Amy already leaves. She becomes friends with Amy instead, planning to get her help to invite Peter to prom.
Despite Bibi fitting into the "yandere" archetype to a T at first, the series is actually very sympathetic to Bibi's circumstances and her personality. She isn't "crazy for the sake of being crazy." Amy herself also has a dysfunctional relationship to others, and both have detailed reasoning to their backgrounds and viewpoints.
Tumblr media
They may be mentally ill, but they have each other. Even if it might not seem like it for a while. Also, it's the first time I've seen a Korean webtoon set in an American high school, which is interesting.
Final Thoughts:
My friends say that it really gets good around Chapter 30. I wasn't exactly keeping count, but there is a turn in the story where it drops its comedic facade and gets very earnest and very clearly well-written. The art style is also extremely charming! The use of color and shapes in both its light and dark scenes is really unique and looks great. I'd recommend it pretty highly.
Currently there's no official English translation, but maybe there will be one eventually, given that the series is complete. If I had to guess, it would probably be put on Tapas or Tappytoon?
Tbh I read manhwa/manga based on bad reviews left by people.
People on Bato.to review section: 0 stars. The ML is a psychopath. He's a toxic piece of shit. I hate yanderes, this is disgusting, there's noncon.
Me: Oh don't mind if I do then.
Deadass I actually haven't read any of them yet but apparently there actually are a large amount of adult manga/manhwa/manhua that are growing more by the day and it's nice??? Although I think I've been seeing more content for like explicit BL over hetero (I've been eyeing Night By The Sea which is ABO and apparently the alpha is really toxic and possessive? Omegaverse and yandere are like my cookies and cream)
Also bato . to is legit, ain't no way I'm gonna use something like Webtoon or Tappytoons and pay money by the chapter when some of these manhwa never even finish and get completely abandoned. I'm a pirate for life, arrrr
But hm, that sounds like a potentially valid way to find new hot trash to read 👀
My Deepest Secret
3/5 stars
I was intrigued by this webtoon at first. I was okay with the yandere themes that were presented but lost interest with each chapter. I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't because I didn't like the characters or because it was too fast-paced. Either way, I dropped it before finishing the season. I remember dropping it around chapter 10.
SPOILERS AHEAD: In the first chapter, we meet her boyfriend, Elios. We immediately see him go into protective mode because of a CAT. I can deal with possessive men if they only mess with people who take advantage of the FL. We get a couple of flashbacks in the next few chapters. It indicates that she was traumatized, and that's understandable. What wasn't understandable was her being surrounded by situations in which she kept being threatened. I understand that there can be situations that can trigger her, but I don't think she'd immediately be assaulted by her teacher right after her senior tried to SA her.
As the situations kept coming, I felt more focused on keeping up with everything that was happening rather than getting to know the characters. I don't believe I'll pick it up anytime soon.
Could you review Allen from manhwa the abandoned empress?
Hey there yukirae, Kai here. I was originally planning to make a review for this manhwa but I just got so tired and frustrated with it that I couldn’t finish it. So I’ll do you a quickie review instead. Admittedly: I got up to about... Chapter 70 (73?) and I do know some spoilers about the story. Anyways. The ‘review’.
Tumblr media
Title: The Abandoned Empress
Media: Webtoon by Yuna Ina
Yandere(s): Allen
Yandere Scale: 3/5
Criticism written by: Kai
Editor: Julie
The Review:
So... review time. The Abandoned Empress is a Korean manhwa that follows the story of the protagonist: Aristia. She was the daughter of a duke and married the crowned prince. She became the empress and he became the emperor. But then some Korean girl isekai’d to their world and the emperor became interested in her instead. Yada yada yada, reincarnation nonsense and Aristia transmigrated back into the body of her younger self. And she promised to herself never to fall in love with the abusive, jackass crowned prince- spoiler alert: she does *roll eyes*.
Anyways, everyone wants to about Allen. I’d say... yeah, I guess he’s a yandere. I’m a bit lukewarm about Allen. The reason why is because we hardly see enough of him. After his brief screen time, he was pushed so far back in the story that we only really see him when Aristia goes, “Oh yeah, I had a friend named Allen. I wonder what he’s doing?” Then we hard cut to Allen scheming his way to Aristia’s side. I mean- yeah. Pretty yandere, not arguing with that. But with him pushed so far back, it makes me wonder why he likes Aristia and his thought process. We don’t know much about him besides what Aristia learns in passing. With him hardly being in the story, his interest in her feels a bit superficial and the only reason why he likes her is that she’s the protagonist of the story. He’s a yandere but he’s sort of like the obligatory yandere you toss in to make the story spicy.
Do I recommend the story for people wanting their “yandere fix”. No. I don’t even recommend picking it up in general because the story isn’t that great. It started off strong, I’ll admit. You see all this Aristia going through all these hardships and swearing to god that she will defy her fate. We also see that the crown prince is a little insecure shit bag in the past. But the story tries to justify those two being together because “he’s a different person in this timeline!” or some shit. Aristia has PTSD from the prince and you tell us readers that they’re perfect for each other. WTF??? Allen gets pushed to the side, probably because the author realized people were shipping him and Aristia when the “real OTP” is Aristia and that prick prince.
The “journey” of the story isn’t worth it and Allen is hardly there for any yandere fixing. At most Allen will be used as a plot device to bring the prick prince and Aristia together. Just... no. Spare y’all the heartache and headache to read something better.
Overall Score: 3/10
“Can manhwa ever be as popular as manga?” -A Question from Quora
I couldn’t submit my answer for one reason or another, but I spent a lot of time writing it so I’m throwing it in the Tumblr Archives.
“Can manhwa ever be as popular as manga?”
But isn’t it?
I won’t look up and show statistics and such. This answer just comes straight from what I’ve observed in the country/state where I’m from.
And where I’m from, more people definitely read manhwa and webtoons than they do manga. And the reasons are pretty obvious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Shoutout to CurtRichy from “Get in the Robot”/”Beyond the Bot”, he has a very popular "Anime you can't watch in public" series on YouTube.)
If I was in public and was watching, let’s say, “Kill la Kill”, I would instantly be labeled, and honestly? Probably be reported depending on where I am and how many people can see it. No matter how good or cool I think the story and animation are, that’s just not the issue here.
A lot of Japanese media is heavily sexualized, and sometimes for absolutely no reason. The small number of female anime fans who find wardrobe malfunctions, unrealistic proportions, and jiggle physics “entertaining” is dwindling and fast.
I can’t remember the name of the anime, but for Valentine's Day, my university Anime Club had an event where singles and couples could all come to watch romantic animes together. They went all-in with decorations, games, candy, and more. Normally the club would carefully review the animes in advance before blasting them across those large lecture room projectors. But this time, someone screwed up. The anime we ended up viewing was about some yandere chick kidnapping a little boy for salacious intentions.
Oof...
We had an unusually high turnout that night of about 30 or so people, and it was a great way to socialize and introduce more people to the world of anime/manga. And we lost 90% of them 30 minutes into the event. It wasn't an "H-anime", but it was still pretty disturbing and walked a very thin line. Luckily, no administrators or deans were present and no one was reported...
I also have another funny story about a 10-year-old(?) kid trying to get his dad to let him buy manga and watch anime at an anime merch store. But TLDR, the dad’s first exposure to manga was Peter Grill. Tough break, kid… See ya in a few more years.
Tumblr media
Manhwa, on the other hand, is very tame and appeals to larger demographics. The “free-to-read” and “read-online” formats only make it that much easier to access.
A large number of friends who I thought had no interest in comics or manga all have Webtoon downloaded on their phones. Last year I went to a birthday party with a dozen or so friends and strangers, and come around 8:30 p.m., half of our phones went off at the same time. We all looked at each other and realized it was the Webtoon app. It was a pretty good laugh and a long discussion about what we were reading.
Shockingly, at least to me, most of the guys (who didn’t seem like the type) were reading stuff like “Lore Olympus” and “Cursed Princess Club” while the girls were reading everything from that to “The Boxer” and “Sweet Home”. Some of them aren’t Korean manhwas, but still.
I’m constantly recommending manga to my anime/manga friends, I’m pretty much the “manga guy” in my friend groups. No matter how much I recommend “Terraformars” or “Killing Bites” to those who I KNOW would love it, those black and white pages for 14.99$ (or incomplete to read free online with “You won’t last 5 seconds playing this game” ads) would just be put aside for “later”. But if I bring up the colorful “Jungle Juice” that’s being updated on a reliable schedule and free-to-read right now on a popular mobile app?
It’s no contest.
youtube
I think a lot more people are opting out of all the shonen, large “plot”, and Isekai manga stories, and getting into the deeper/emotional and more varied stories manhwas have to offer.
It’s happening slowly but surely.
A Changed Future (2) | Yandere Isekai
Tumblr media
Part 1
It’s so irritating for Haruko
He remembers how he used to try and make noise in the beginning, when the same thing happened to him
But even without your struggling, he’s got more obstacles than he thought
“Tch all these guys getting in our way, maybe I should just kill them.”
“Haru no!”
“Why not, I'm sure you did it when I was trapped.”
“That…that doesn’t make it right!”
“So? Who cares about right when we’re in love? I think it was you who said that.”
Either way with or without your approval he’s figuring out a way to take down his newfound rivals
He kind of hopes they are as ambitious as the friends who recently abandoned him
Too bad they aren’t
In the original story, the crazy thing about the protagonist was that despite their obsessive love for Haruko and general disregard for those who got in the way of that was otherwise really inspiring
Breaking away from their elitist family for their violent morals ironic right
Joining the workforce, easily rising because of their work ethic and intelligence
And all that while beautifully evading a less-than-clean detective trying to pin the blame of random crimes on them
Which of course got them their own male leads attempting to pursue their affections
Always doomed to fall short because of circumstance or the protagonist suavely crushing their hopes to gush about their love
It was a uniquely terrible tragedy for their characters to be written this way
That’s what the random reviewers would say
Which is why you did feel inclined to maybe entertain them a bit more than the original protagonist would have ever done
“Since you are quitting….I hope you’ll let me treat you to dinner. For all your hard work of course.”
“Uh sure but I have to be home by sunset.”
“That’s a shame then we’ll have to—Wait. Did you say you would?”
“Yeah, are you okay?”
“YES! Ahem I mean yes I’m fine! I look forward to a nice evening together!”
Unknowingly furthering the obsession the protagonist was barely keeping at bay
“So mind telling me what you ordered that day at the restaurant?”
“I think it was my favorite dish there called the berry delight but I’m not sure. I think they changed the menu since I was there.”
“Why not confirm it later today? That way you can tell me if you did see the missing classmate of yours.”
“But I don’t remember exactly where I sat–”
“Then we’ll just have to sit in every spot until it rings a bell.”
“I don’t know if that’s–”
“Don’t fret. I’ll be paying but there's no way we’ll get to try every table. We’ll have to come back multiple times.”
“Okay…”
“No worries I’m sure you’ll get tired of eating there so we’ll go to some other places to give you a rest. Anywhere you wanted to try?”
You’d be foolish to think you could escape them by agreeing to Haruko’s entrapping of you
It only takes a day of you not responding to messages that they both eagerly awaiting you at your door
And after the first few times, Haruko shooing them away they begin to get resourceful
“Yeah bud nice try their still out.”
“Hm well say that to my lovely warrant right here.”
“Wait! H-h-hold on! Geez I-i’ll go get them now but they are not going to be happy with you!”
It really doesn’t get better as the guard against the protagonist’s secrets begins to be let down as interested parties slowly make their way in
You don’t have the same ruthlessness or ability to deceive as the protagonist you took over for
On top of that you never actually read the webtoon so you’ll be left trying to piece together whatever few weak points the protag has
Where if you hadn’t already started to make your pursuers interested all those faults are fuel for their agenda
“It’s so unfortunate that the company can sign off on your absence during this suspicious crime but I don’t mind editing records if you wouldn’t mind spending time with me. That way I can vet your personality myself. Over wine of course!”
It’s overwhelming constantly being pulled in 3 directions
What’s worse you’re completely oblivious when the latest obstacle in the protag’s perfect life finally makes themselves known
“Hello darling, it took us years to find you but we did it!”
“Don’t look like that come give your Mama a hug!”
Webtoon review
Name: The Blood of Madam Giselle
Genre: romance/revenge idk but its *not* otome isekai
Nsfw: YES VERY MUCH TOO MUCH, kinda surprised me at first
Its one of those webtoons with a strong FL and her cute slave ML who is a total sub lmao but i love that trope. I don't like the cliche all mighty rude crown prince concept. Rude ML's disgust me. And Isaac (ML) is not rude at all he is baby. Plus he is kind of yandere so if you're into that shit good for you! The FL is not an innocent dumb girl she is really sly & plans to kill her husband and what can i say GO FOR IT GIRL😍 The plot is really interesting i'd give this webtoon a 8.2/10
Let’s Hide My Younger Brother First "Review"
Okay so I read up to the last updated chapter of the 'Let’s Hide My Younger Brother First' Webtoon
and I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed. The premise seemed interesting. But where it came to a hard stop for me was when it turned out that this story is a "gender bend" story.
more under the cut
More often than not most gender bend or ""disguised as the opposite sex"" stories don't really sit that well with me anymore once I read them nowadays. I think the last gender bender story that I remember that didn't handle it in a very uh "cis" way was Kuragehime?
Anyways.. Most Webtoons always try to triple assure us that nothing here could be queer in any way! No sir!! As straight as uncooked Pasta! which...... yeah..
So the Premise is that the Female Lead gets Reincarnated into a dark BL 18+ Novel. She is now the Sister of the original MC (her Brother) from the Book. So my first "eh that kinda sucks" strike is that obvioulsy none of the characters are gay or bi anymore. Obviously, stuff like that is never actually stated or implied. Most often than not these characters all turn miraculously in "proper" straight dudes. Which is icky but fine lets move on.
What honestly set me of was this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These screenshots are all from the beginning of chapter nine of the story. Reading this instantly made my alarm bells go off because I would understand this as following: Estelle is a trans girl. The wording makes it clear to me that Estelle understands herself as a girl and is incredulous once someone points out the opposite. which is: you couldn't be a girl because you were not afab.
Of course the Comic doesn't/probably wont treat it that way especially not considering the artwork that depicts Estelle in a stereotypical masculine/"male" fashion.
From what I gathered (I haven't read the Light Novel only the Webtoon) Estelle, the character from the original book did a bunch of awful things (rape, murder etc.. what a girlboss /sarcasm) to the brother. In the Webtoon she obviously hasn't done any of that because Kayla the FL took her brothers place and diverged the story from its original path. But apparently Estelle is pretty obsessive (which I don't mind, I like a good yandere) but I also read varying accounts on the fact that she imprisons the Female Lead later on and then tries to rape her when she* (*Kayla the FL) tries to Escape.
(which to be clear: I'm not sure if the rape actually happens or not bcs people seemed pretty torn about that in the comments of the light novel)
I don't mind dark stories when they're appropriately tagged and depicted as such but I somehow doubt that the story will actually go into a dark direction or even depict their relationship as unhealthy.
Considering most webtoons/manhwas aren't really made with that demopgraphic in mind.
but yea these are my gripes with the story, I might continue to read it to see if it actually goes where I think its heading or not but well..
Can you recommend me some yandere mangas?
Hey there!  I apologize that this is late.  It’s been a little crazy lately (for everyone really).
I had a weird sensation happen though when I got this question…disappointment in myself XD  There’s 3 main problems here:
1) Lately I’ve been indulging more in the analysis side and just enjoying yandere aesthetics
2) There are a RIDICULOUSLY few number of yandere manga I’ve actually picked up to read lately.
3) I just realized I don’t have a full blown recommendation list.
The first point is self explanatory.  It’s just how I enjoy my downtime.
The second point…well there’s a lot of things that get recommended through tumblr but I don’t pick up every single thing that comes through.  I don’t know what EXACTLY draws me into a story at first to hook me in (I’m not sure if it’s the aesthetics, summary or something else most of the time).  Off the top of my head, I know new stuff I’ve read or been reading with yanderes (or supposed yanderes) is Stalker’s Game from tapas (Note: DEBATABLE yandere…could say the character doesn’t start as a yandere but becomes one later maybe), Secret Alliance from Lezhin and My Deepest Secret from webtoons.  Those aren’t even manga lol.
I guess the closest I had to older yandere material familiar with would be through my Good/Redeemed Male Yandere Examples (Note: I don’t really consider Jung a yandere much now, but still an interesting read.  #8 don’t worry about because that one ended up not even being close to a yandere) and Favorite Villains/Horror Male Yanderes.
I had an ask about reviews earlier that might lead you through a rabbit hole to some stuff.
As for the third point, most of the time I’m reblogging recommendations from others.  Most of these recommendations post up as SINGLE posts talking about one particular piece of media.  So you could say that my blog has a ton of recommendations in it…but they’re all fragmented throughout.  Now I do try to reblog lists other people put out as suggestions when I can, because that’s always easier to have everything in one place.
I feel so guilty with this lackluster answer I’m giving you, so I tried to skim through my archive to see if there were any recommendation lists I reblogged recently:
Older yandere
General recommendations
There might be more lists, but I have no idea how far I have to go through my archive to find them, sorry.
NOTE:  I have NOT read through every single one of these recommendations so I can’t guarantee if a suggestion does indeed include a yandere or ended up just being clickbait.  (I will say that “Hello I’m your stalker” does not have a yandere at least…trust me I gave that one plenty of time to determine if Hubert was a yandere- main thing was he really doesn’t act as possessive or obsessive in some situations where you’d really be expecting it from a yandere.  Stalking alone does not equal a yandere).
I do apologize that I’m not delivering well here this time.  I think I’ve gotten so lazy with just reblogging individual posts that I’ve neglected to really even make an updated favorites list or read new material.
I also might just be a little tired right now though, haha.  I put this ask off for a few days because I couldn’t come up with a good answer right away.  I don’t want keep this anon waiting any longer though.
Very sorry for this.  Hopefully one of these links can get you started somewhere at least.
[EDIT:  COLOR RECIPE!  That’s a BL one I like that I don’t think popped up in any of those lists XD  I didn’t want to leave that one out...I think I once debated if that yandere belonged on my villain/horror list 0.o  I lean towards it based on his actions during the manga and his expression at the very end of the story, but also maybe he doesn’t quite fit that category?  People I think would understand my debate if they’ve read it]
